would you rather kiss a man or a woman ?
I do have experience with both, due to a faked relationship for a case, which required kissing a woman unfortunately. And it was not a very pleasant experience, and I had to use all of my self control to not pull a face in disgust and to look happy and lovingly at her.
My only other experience would have been with John, and as that was bearable, I would conclude, although it is a very limited dataset and thus not an accurate scientific estimation, that a kiss with a man would be the preferable option. Of course this also all depends on the person in question, I would probably rather kiss a woman than the most disgusting and unhygienic man in London. But all in all I would rather kiss no one as it is a very unhygienic practice because it transfers 80 million bacteria between people. However the microbiome of humans that cohabitate are very familiar anyway due to the shared space and also mostly shared food, thus with John it would have less of an impact as our microbiomes would be similiar to begin with.

aw @ mycroft calling sherlock “my boy” like he's pleased with him enough to shed the uptight formality and address him more cordially
#you can kinda tell he was in a good mood when he wrote this letter#damn makes me feel bad that I disappointed him in the house of Eagle case but I was SO INVESTED#and it was so worth it to see sherlock say “stfu lady I have no time for a woman’s hysterics” while dressed as a pretty oriental lady#sherlock holmes chapter one#shco#shco diaries#shco spoilers

I was thinking… You know how in detective movies and series like sherlock, poirot etc. They’re always well known all around. Like everyone knows their name and who they are. But that got me thinking: I have never actually heard about a real life famous detective. Like a name you’ve heard alot on the news or anything? I dont know if I just coincidentally never heard of them or if thats just not a real thing.
Idk I just never thought about that fact while watching many of the genre. And was curious if that was just me or not XD

Is she in her Poirot era?
Dearest readers (and other users of Tumblr), you may know that I have dedicated some of my insomniac hours to listening to the Sherlock Holmes audiobooks and recounting the bizarre plot points. Yesterday evening, the Spotify algorithm decided to throw something new at me: the adventures of Hercule Poirot. Therefore, I have consumed the short story, "The Disappearance of Mr Davenheim" from the collection "Poirot Investigates", published in 1924. Here are my observations:
the dynamic between Poirot and Hastings is pretty similar to that of Holmes and Watson, in that both have a smartass and an everyman. Holmes seems fonder of Watson than Poirot is of Hastings
Holmes is perfectly happy to gallivant around Europe for various cases and visits Tibet at least once. Poirot takes great pride in the fact that he solves a case without leaving his armchair
Poirot talks about how difficult it is to disappear, especially when you're relatively famous and your family puts descriptions of you all over the newspapers. Two years after this story was published, Agatha Christie herself vanished and wasn't found for just under two weeks, despite fans searching and a fair amount of media attention. The coincidence is so notable that I assumed the book was written after Christie vanishes as a meta wink to her readers
Anyway, that's all I really picked up on. Any Poirot fans out there? Apparently the new Kenneth Branagh film is abysmal

okay, i finished shiver - rode a little closer to the thriller half of the thriller-mystery spectrum, but a better read than i feared when reading the Painfully Straight earlier portions of the story
really hoping the next story on the list actually has a real locked room mystery, though, like please
#it's funny because for all that locked room mysteries are considered a staple of the mystery genre#most of the examples i can think of come from like... detective conan and umineko#which are very modern responses to the mystery genre#i think i might count murder on the orient express as having a locked room mystery?#and i think the tale of the speckled band in the sherlock holmes canon is also a locked room mystery#but off the top of my head i can't think of any other classic mystery stories that utilize the technique#granted i probably just can't remember them or i haven't read them ahahaha

Why don’t you and John have a few discussions about your and his sexuality’s!
Why should I talk with him about it? Although he is a doctor, that would make sense. But that has to wait until tomorrow because he fell asleep on me and the couch.

Also Bouc saying, "'... Show me how the impossible can be possible!'" and Poirot responding with, "'It is a good phrase, that ... [t]he impossible cannot have happened, therefore the impossible must be possible in spite of appearances[,]'" made me giddy because one of the most famous Sherlock Holmes quotes is, "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." And when I tell you Sherry would be clenching her fists, gritting her teeth, and grumbling about how Poirot's "copying" her ... there's just so much potential for a rivalry, and I love it.
#this is so fun to think about ... I literally read that exchange and immediately went‚ ''Wait a second ... that's a Sherlock reference!''#I'm having so much fun reading this book if you can't tell /lh#planning to finish up the section about evidence and then go to bed ... I need to sleep#even though I could probably finish the book tonight--and I'm tempted to ... I only have about 70 pages left#I'll have to read more of these Hercule Poirot novels once I finish all my little projects ... a treat for me perhaps ~#si: to a great mind‚ nothing is little 🤎#a real page turner: Murder on the Orient Express#scattered pages

on the wings of that last post, it's really interesting to be a fan of a ship/character/headcanon as a work's ongoing, since it's weird to see how that changes as the work moves forward
#like idk if you all remember I used to ship thrnto#but honestly between their age gap being confirmed to be as large as it was + eli's treatment in lesser evil honestly I just put my energy#into j*hnlock#similar dynamics but sherlock outwardly expresses personal care for watson more of the time#in a less ship-oriented direction see also a lot of my sequel-era headcanons especially pertaining to klo#star dorks#sw negativity

I mean, for me it would be obvious.
Wow, I actually grew up in a room with wallpaper that looks like that stuff in this .gif (though mine was worse/deeper in its yellow-gold color). I hated it. My father plastered over the nice original (calming!) sea green-blue paint of my walls and I think it screwed me up as a toddler (it was too busy for my eyes/brain, it overwhelmed me). To this day my brain can't handle such loud shit in front of my eyes. 😭🤢🤮🤕😭
Cumbersnatch's hand totally looks AI generated, doesn't it. God he's weird.
I have no idea if this poll will have as much widespread appeal as some of the others, but this idea popped into my head and felt like a fun one to me, so...
Now you can take this whatever direction you'd like: who you realistically think you're the closest match to, or pure wish fulfillment who'd you most enjoy being. I'd love to see people's reasonings for their choices in the comments and tags. x3 Please reblog for a larger sample size!
In my case, I'd love to think I'm the Watson as a loyal friend, but I'm far too squeamish to be helpful with most medical needs besides basic first aid, and I would NOT be any help in a fight, I'm running in the other direction and yanking Sherly with me the second there's gunshots, bye. I think I'm mostly likely Mrs. Hudson--responsible, own a home, love Sherly and Watson despite their faults, still deeply loyal and tough in my own way even if I'm not in the thick of the danger, a bit of a homebody probably and good at whipping up some tea/food.
With all that said, interpret these roles any way you want! That will be a big part of the fun for this one, seeing how people decide and back up their picks. :)
#i'm too detail oriented not to be sherlock#sherlock#sorry cucumber man#that's my role now#and ✨i✨ get to have the bromance with john watson now#cope#off topic#though not really bc it's martin freeman#benedict cumberbatch#martin freeman
