Bingqiu AU where Luo Binghe's the chosen village sacrifice to the evil deity who lives up the mountain.

Normally the village sends maidens, but they've more or less run out of expendable girls of the right age and, ahem, "virtues". So of course Luo Binghe's early life bad luck kicks in. In the wake of his mother's death there's no one to really care about what happens to him, he's fairly pretty, and the village leaders decide that if they dress him up like a girl the teenaged homeless kid should pass well enough. And hey, y'know, he's probably got a hard life ahead for him anyway -- dying in a brothel of some venereal disease or on the streets of exposure or starvation. At least as a sacrifice, everyone else gets to benefit from his loss! And the kid will get added to a shrine and be remembered as a hero! If anything, he should be happy about this!

Binghe is not happy about this.

But he's also a skinny underfed nobody who is easily overpowered, dressed up like a bride, and tied to a post. So. Not much he can do but wait for the evil deity to come and do whatever horrible thing he's gonna do to him.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuan is pretty sure he's been isekai'd into the over-powered hero of some kind of supernatural adventure story? He's not totally sure because he doesn't recognize the setting, but the signs are there. He's got a shrine-like base of operations (though it seems to have become corrupted/ruined, probably he has to restore it somehow), he has a very resilient and handsome new body with spiritual energy of some kind flowing through him, and a very clearly magical sword. Plus lots of neat starter powers! Though it feels like he has other abilities that have been blocked somehow? Probably he has to level up in order to access them.

When he treks out of his "base" and finds what seems to be a distressed maiden, he takes it for his beginner hero mission. The girl claims that she's been doomed to be sacrificed to an evil god. That sounds a little above Shen Yuan's pay grade for dealing with, so he unties her and decides that they had better just get out of the whole region altogether. He already packed up anything useful from his base, anticipating he might get caught up in an adventure once he left, so they follow the river away from the settlement until they reach another one.

While they travel, Luo Binghe tells Shen Yuan about the cursed deity, Shen Qingqiu, who was cast out of the heavens for slaughtering one of his brethren and has apparently being do-who-knows what to maidens from the local village in exchange for his "protection" ever since. Sounds like a real asshole! And also mid-level boss type bad guy at least. Shen Yuan hopes he doesn't have to fight him, but he probably will.

Thank goodness he found Binghe, though! Clearly the helpful little sister type! He's definitely going to require her assistance if he's going to figure out how to navigate this world and level up his skills enough to take on a god.

While we're talking about Luo bingge misery porn I want to bring up that pidw lasted 200 years

This means one of two options:

1) Shen Yuan knew the washerwoman's name and just insisted on calling her The Washerwoman (can't really see that happening when he remembers the names of so many wives and the washerwoman is more important to Binghe than all of them + he calls Su Xiyan by her name instead of calling her Binghe’s birth mother or something)

2) he doesn't know her name, which implies Bingge just never allowed himself to think about his adoptive mother too deeply for literal centuries.

A twist on the Shen Yuan transmigrates into PIDW as an animal

Shen Yuan transmigrates into PIDW as a spiritual crane or dragon and ends up becoming Shen Qingqiu's mount. Instead of Shen Jiu taking a carriage everywhere (or even flying on his sword), he's riding Shen Yuan everywhere.

And if you dare insult Shen Jiu when Shen Yuan is around (which is always), Shen Yuan puffs up like an angry mama and you better start running away like hell.

You know those pics of chickens adopting all sorts of baby animals? But make the baby be Shen Jiu. And Shen Yuan sees Shen Jiu as such as baby to be protected that Shen Jiu should be carried around instead of walking around on his own two feet much less flying around.

Shen Yuan: This is the scum villain?! Shen Yuan: But this is also my baby. Must Protect Baby.

little binghe has a goal in this life and it only gets worse once he mets sqq, no one dares to threaten his position as sqq's future wife, he literally was born to be his spouse!!

sqq’s maigu speech gets a lot of jokes but it does make me like 20 different types of crazy. sqq admits that he can’t have truly known how su xiyan felt, but at this exact moment, drawing poison into his own body knowing it will kill him so that luo binghe can live, he understands so clearly the unconditional love she had for him because he feels it too.

of course su xiyan would give up everything for a chance for luo binghe to live well. if shen qingqiu is willing to do the same, how could she have loved him any less? going to run into traffic btw

Luo Binghe is kind of an orphan, but he also has SO many deadbeat, dead, or creepy parental figures or technical parents, it's SO funny to me. He only actually wants, like, two of them in his life.

The washerwoman: adoptive mother. Loved her and misses her to this day. Only mother he cares about.

Unknown potential miscellaneous caretakers between the fishermen finding him in the Luo River and his adoptive mother taking him in. SOMEONE had to nurse this kid if he wasn't actually adopted by the washerwoman immediately.

Su Xiyan: birth mother. If anyone told him about the "set adrift in a river" thing, he probably assumed for most of his life that a birth parent left him for dead.

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Jiu): teacher and master. If Shen Jiu didn't give Binghe a lot of his issues, then he definitely made them worse!

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan): teacher and master. The "can't I look at what I raised?" is there and cannot be taken back, and it does just get weirder from there. No, I don't think Shen Yuan would be thrilled about being on this list at all.

Meng Mo: teacher and portable grandfather. This demon had to talk Binghe into being his student and settle for not even being called "Shifu". Probably gives terrible advice.

Shang Qinghua: father to Binghe as much as he's father to everyone in this world that he wrote. Does NOT want Binghe to know this. Probably gave Binghe a lot of his own issues. Sure does give advice.

Mobei-Jun: demon mentor (arguable) and stepfather through the author father thing. Does not know this. Definitely gives terrible advice.

Huan Hua Palace Master: master of Binghe's birth mother, wants to be Binghe's father-in-law and is also using him as a replacement Su Xiyan. Threw Gongyi Xiao aside IMMEDIATELY to take Binghe in and put Binghe in charge of the Jin Lan City mission even when he wasn't an official disciple.

Tianlang-Jun: birth father. Sealed away before Binghe's birth and comes back to cause SO MANY problems.

Look, SY wife-beaming everyone is amazing and all but how about him just Mom-beaming everyone. I don't mean both, I mean just becoming a mother figure to random people/people he barely knows, no romantic feelings (at least in most cases).

For Christmas, Shen Qingqiu loves giving gifts to his disciples and martial siblings (maybe a few of them believed they were getting courting gifts until it is revealed that he gave gifts to everyone). Shang Qinghua probably tries to get Mobei-Jun to dress like santa

Luo Binghe loves Valentine's Day the most, for he can get his husband to spend the entire day with him and only him (and maybe they read a Valentine's Day edition of Regret of Chunshan)

On Father's day Tianlang-Jun expects a gift from his son, but Luo Binghe gives a gift to Shang Qinghua instead to spite him
