This is the only scene we get between Willow and her mother or any parental figure and it’s because of just this one scene alone that we’re able to understand why Willow is the way she is with the control freak streaks and the rebellious or entitled attitude every now and again, as well as the issue with quick fixes and her problematic relationship with consent. The problem is though… I don’t buy it. Meaning I don’t see Sheila as an abusive, neglectful, nor even controlling parent. I see her as ignorant and a little overprotective or overbearing. Expecting more from Willow than is realistic or even feasible. But I do not view her as someone who doesn’t care about her daughter’s life or well being or education as per the way Willow paints her relationship with her mother. I view Xander’s parents that way because there’s convincing evidence for it. But both Sheila and Joyce come across as very strict but loving parents to their daughters and therefore it leads me to believe that the majority of Willow’s issues don’t stem from her home life but rather her school life instead. Her home life makes her seem more like a sheltered child that isn’t really allowed to venture outside of her expected and compliant behaviour and that probably explains why she wants to be rebellious and do the taboo every once in awhile but it doesn’t really explain why she has control or consent issues nor wants the easy way out when things go wrong and her emotions run high enough to trigger her anxiety. It doesn’t really explain why she is power hungry or wants to exact vengeance or has repressed sadism. All these issues that I constantly talk about that encapsulate Willow’s morally grey characterization aren’t explained by her home life. Only her school life where she’s constantly picked on and made to feel like she is unwanted.

But I’ve had people attest to me that Sheila and Willow’s home life is a major factor for her complex trauma. So in the interest of learning more, can someone explain as clearly and coherently as possible why this apparently is? I really just don’t see it at all. And the thing is is that besides Willow narrating the stories of her home life - other than this scene - there really is no convincing evidence for the perspective that Willow’s home life informs her character representation or development. So… why?

I mean this scene basically tells us that her mother is so neglectful and physically unavailable to Willow that she doesn’t even know who her best friend is or her boyfriend. Didn’t even know she was dating Oz for what must have been a year by this point in the show. Didn’t know she cut her hair. Didn’t know she was getting into trouble at school. Didn’t know anything.

And I’m sorry but I just don’t buy it.

There must be something I’m missing.

This is the way my mother treats me and I have never and will never refer to it as abusive. Just how it is.

Rookie-Critic's Top 25 Films of 2022: Honorable Mentions - The Woman King (dir. Gina Prince-Bythewood)

I don't really know what to say about this one except that it is a straight-down-the-middle home run of a film. It's entertaining, it's moving, the acting is great, the cinematography is amazing, and not only is the cast made up of almost entirely of BIPOC, it's made up almost entirely of BIPOC women. We love to see women supporting women on film, and The Woman King is the ultimate action-adventure film to embody that spirit. Again, this is a very classically good film.

A/N: A silly little blurb written in 2017. Originally an oc, edited to be a reader fic.

You'd commented on his Stones t-shirt at a party.

"Have you ever seen them?" he asked you an hour later when you were in the kitchen making a drink.

"Who?" you made a face, completely forgetting about your previous encounter.

Harry laughed, pointing at his shirt. "The Rolling Stones."

"Oh. No," you shook your head. "Never got to."

"Mmm, you should. Everyone needs to see them at least once."

"Well...next time I have an extra hundred or so burning a hole in my pocket, I'll buy a ticket."

"Hey Y/N, are you making me one of those?" your best friend Sheila asked as she entered in the kitchen.

"What am I, designated bartender?" you scoffed.

"Of course! Now hook me up!"

You shook your head as you began to mix her drink, just like you both knew you would. As you poured the liquor into the glass, Harry leaned against the counter.

"They're coming to town next week," he commented. "We should go."

You gave him the eye while you squeezed a slice of lime into Sheila's drink. For a second you thought you'd misheard him.

"We should?"

"Yeah," he smirked with a wiggle of his eyebrows.

You bit your lip as you handed Sheila her glass. "I'll think about it."

Sipping through her straw, Sheila nodded her head at you. You knew what she was trying to say, but you didn't care.

"Hmm," Harry sounded. "Well, while you think about it...maybe you can make me one of those?"

You glared at him, his cocky expression quickly making your defenses crumble. You chuckled and grabbed a fresh glass. "Sure."

Just then three more people walked in, catching you making Harry's cocktail.

"Yeah, I'll take one too, Y/N!" exclaimed Jordan.

"Me too!"

"Me three!"

"What the hell, who made me bartender?" you argued.

"Harry," Sheila winked.

"But you asked for a drink first," you pointed at her.

"So. He followed you in here first."

You looked at Harry whose mouth grew into a smile. You laughed as you handed him his glass and began making three more. By the time you passed them out to your customers, your own cocktail was watered down. Frowning, you took a sip anyway.

"So did you think about it?" asked Harry, placing his empty glass on the counter.

"Sorry?"

"The Stones concert."

"Oh. Um..."

As if it were a sign, "Start Me Up" began to play from the speakers in the next room. Harry and you both froze.

"Looks like they're playing our song," he chuckled.

"Oh for fucks sake, go out with him!" shouted Sheila.

You shook your head as the color rose to your cheeks. "Alright."

"You won't regret it," beamed Harry. "Everyone needs to see the Stones."

You both stood outside the outdoor venue watching the sun set. You could hear the drum beat of the opening band playing inside as the excitement began to fill your veins.

"So when should we go in?" you asked Harry.

"After sundown," he replied. "That's the best time. Not as many people trying to get in."

You nodded, a little disappointed you'd be missing the opening act, but then again you had no clue who they were anyway. Finally, when the sun had disappeared behind the horizon, Harry grabbed your hand.

"C'mon," he whispered. "This way."

You smiled and followed him up a ramp. You zig zagged through a maze of several barriers until you reached a fence.

"What are we doing?" you glared at him, confused.

"Waiting for the all clear," Harry muttered.

"Wait...what?"

He squeezed your hand and looked at you timidly. "I don't actually have tickets," he admitted.

"What? We're...we're sneaking in?"

"Yeah."

Releasing your hand from his, you felt your stomach plummet to your knees. "Have you lost your fucking mind?!" you shouted.

"Shh!"

"No, I won't shh! I'm out of here!"

"Y/N! Wait!" he grabbed your hand again just as you rounded the corner. "Please."

"You're insane," you grumbled.

"Trust me. We can do this. I've done it before."

"Oh, that makes me feel so much better!" you threw up your hand.

Taking your other hand, Harry looked you in the eye. "Please."

With a defeated sigh, you followed him back to the fence. You watched as Harry carefully climbed over it, landing softly on the grass.

"C'mon," he beckoned.

With hesitation and a sour feeling in your gut, you reached up and grabbed the metal fence, sticking your shoe inside a hole to pull yourself up. When you reached the top, however, you got scared.

"I can't," you shook your head.

"Sure you can," said Harry, his arms out. "I'm right here. I'll catch you so you won't hit the ground."

"It's not that...I don't..."

"Swing your leg over."

Swallowing hard, you did as he said and you were able to climb post of the way down until he caught you in his arms.

"See?" he breathed in your ear. "We're okay."

Once again, you smiled at his use of the word "we".

"This way."

Your hand in his, you ran to another nearby barricade that wasn't as difficult to climb over. And that was when you saw the stage.

"Oh wow," you mouthed.

"Great innit?" Harry smiled.

You weren't close, in fact you were in the very back of the venue, behind the crowd that sat on the lawn. But somehow the thrill of it all made it worth it. Suddenly the lights went out and the audience went wild.

"Let's go over here," Harry gestured to the right and you weaved through several people until you stopped at an empty space between them.

You watched Mick Jagger strut across the stage in all his glory. Your stomach did a few flips until you found yourself cheering with the rest of the crowd. By the third or fourth song, you and Harry were dancing.

"This is so awesome!" you screamed at him as he grinned from ear to ear.

"Glad you came with me?" he leaned against you as the band went into "Angie".

"Glad? I could kiss you right now!"

You realized what you'd said the moment the last word dropped from your lips. Harry's smile faltered only slightly as his eyes shifted between your eyes and your mouth. Then tilting his head, he kissed you.

You weren't sure if it was the adrenaline still zipping through you from before, or just the mere sensation of his lips on yours, but that kiss was electric. You wound your arms around Harry's neck as he pulled you closer, your kiss deepening. You heard Mick asking "where will it lead us from here," and you found yourself wondering the same thing.

By the time the concert was over, you were wiping your cheeks of tears of joy.

"You okay?" Harry asked as he took your hand and you walked out of the venue with everybody else.

"Yeah," you nodded. "Yeah, more than okay. Thanks for that."

"Like I said, everyone should see them at least once."

"That's not what I mean."

Harry stopped and turned to look at you with question in his eyes.

"Thank you..." you said, "for the best night of my life."

Y/N and Bonnie read every books and grimoire but they still didn't find anything important or valuable to know why Jeremy was still seeing Connor. Bonnie looked up from one the books she was reading and said "there's literally nothing here, if we go on like this even for days I don't think we will find anything Y/N".

Y/N let out a sigh and closed the grimoire and said "Yeah I also think that there's nothing here that might be helpful for us". They both put all the books and grimoire aside and Bonnie said "Why don't we go the grill and get some food, take some rest and then think of something". Y/N nodded her head and they both left the room. Downstairs Sheila was in the kitchen when they both appeared and Bonnie said "Hey grams we are going to the grill". Sheila turned towards them and said "fine but come before lunch okay both of you", Bonnie and Y/N nodded their head at her and was about to leave when Y/N stopped and turned towards Sheila and said "um....Sheila do you by chance think you might be able to help us with something?".

Sheila looked at her and said "well that will depend on that something that you need help with". Y/N and Bonnie both looked at each other and Bonnie said "well you know the Conner problem we had", "Conner Jordan, that hunter?". Bonnie nodded her head and said "yeah that one, Jeremy can still saw him and we don't know what to do, we already looked through every book and grimoire but didn't find anything at all".

Sheila took a minute to thought bout this and said "there's not much I can say child, but this might be a other side problem", "you mean someone from the other side doing this on purpose" questioned Y/N. Sheila nodded and said "it might be I'm not sure, you should talk with your grandparents about it or the Mikaelsons, they might be able to give some ideas bout it". They both nodded at her and left for the grill.

"Sheila might be right, we should talk to the Mikaelsons first, they know more than others anyway" said Y/N to Bonnie. After everything that happened, the Mystic Falls gang were at a blood battle with the Mikaelsons but when Y/N came everything changed, she helped to sort out the fight and the Mikaelsons have seriously taken a liking to her, so it was not odd for anyone that if Y/N ever asked them to do something or even ask something from them, they will do it in a heart beat.

They talked some more and finally arrived at the grill and go inside, They took a sit at a table in the corner and give order for some fries, burger and cola. Y/N was telling Bonnie about something when someone slide beside her, she turned her head towards them and realized Damon was the one sitting beside her and said "ooh hey, what are you doing here?". Damon looked at her and gave small smirk and said "why, am I not allowed to come here?".

Bonnie rolled her eyes at him and Y/N let out a laugh and said "No that's not what I mean, I was just saying that you usually sits in the bar... you know drinking bourbon and all". Damon nodded at her knowing that's true and said "well I was going to until I saw you guys and thought why not go there and irritate them, so here I am" and wriggled his eye brows at Bonnie, knowing he is already irritating her. Y/N nudged his shoulder and said "stop it Damon, don't start with her" and smiled at him fondly. Damon pouted at her and muttered a little you are no fun when their food arrived, Y/N shared some of her fries and cola with Damon. Bonnie looked at their interactions and was bout to say something when Elena came to their table and greeted them. They all looked at her and Y/N and Bonnie greeted her back with Damon just nodding his head at her.

Elena frowned at that and said "Damon I have been calling and texting you from yesterday, why didn't you responded to any of them, I was worried if something happened to you". Y/N and Bonnie shared a look and stayed quiet when Damon looked up at Elena and said "Did something happened, I was just busy, you can say now what you wanted to say I'm listening", Elena huffed a little and said "No nothing happened, I was..... I just wanted to spent some time with you that's way I called and texted you".

Y/N felt a lump in her throat and looked towards Bonnie nodding her head slightly at the door, signaling for them to leave and Bonnie understand her and they both get up and was bout to leave when Damon hold Y/N wrist and said "where are you going I thought we could have lunch together??". Y/N looked at Damon then at their hands and then looked at Damon again and said "I can't, Sheila have already prepared Lunch for us and asked us to come back before the lunch time". Damon sighed a little and said "fine, go then" and turned his head to the side with a pout.

Y/N shook her head at him and with a smile said "don't pout Damon, if not lunch then we can have dinner together, granny and pops are going out for their date night tonight so I would be home alone anyway". Hearing this Damon's pout transformed into a big smile and he said "ok dinner then, I will prepare something special". Y/N just smiled at him and gave a peck on his cheek and left the grill with Bonnie but no one noticed the jealous and angry look on Elena's face except Bonnie.

They both return to Bonnie's house and watched some movies and sometime later Sheila calls them for lunch. While eating Sheila asked "so have you guys find out what you guys were looking for?". Y/N shook her head and said "No, I mean we haven't gone to the Mikaelsons yet so I was thinking that me and Stefan can go tomorrow since he's a little busy today". Sheila confusedly asked "and your grandparents, you could have gone to them I'm sure they will have your solution". "I know they might have some solution for our problem but I can't go and ask them about it today since it's their date night and I don't want to ruin their fun just for this" said Y/N. Sheila nodded and they ate in silence.

After eating Y/N and Bonnie were bout to go upstairs when Bonnie's phone rang, she picked up her phone and frowned seeing the caller ID, Y/N patted her shoulder and asked "who is it??", "It's Elena, why she's calling me, we haven't talk like for 2 months now" said Bonnie, Y/N looked confused but said "she might need something or just wanna talk, if you pick up the call you will know Bon". Bonnie nodded and accepted the call, she talked for about 2-3 minutes and then cut the call.

She looked at Y/N and let out sigh and said "she wants me to come their house, she didn't tell me much just that she wanna talk and it's been very long since we have had a real talk and so on", Y/N smiled at Bonnie and said "see I told you, what are you waiting for, go...., she called you herself Bonnie just because you guys haven't talk lately doesn't mean that you should be weird of the idea of meeting her". Bonnie rolled her eyes at her and said "it's not that I feel weird, it's just we are not that close anymore and she isn't the same person she was before, and mainly ever since grams have come back she's been telling me to be aware of Elena and her intensions towards me and all of us".

Y/N puts her hands on Bonnie's shoulder and gently rubbing there, she said "Hey, if Sheila thinks that you should be aware of Elena then be cautious around her and if you don't want to go then don't, it's your choice Bon". Bonnie looked at Y/N and then over her shoulder she saw her Grams, Sheila gave her a smile and nodded her head at her, "I will go but if I find anything weird or odd I will leave there" said Bonnie, Y/N patted her shoulder and said "that's the spirit, now go I also need to go home as well". Bonnie nodded at her and then picks up her phone, car keys and left. Y/N also bid goodbye to Sheila and left for her home.

When she reached her home she saw her grandpa in front of the fireplace, reading some book. She slowly stepped towards him and hugged him from behind and said "Hey pops, what are you doing sitting here, are you not gonna plan your date with granny, that's today right". Her pops let out a laugh and said " yes, today is the date night and I have already prepared everything, we just need to get ready and go". Y/N smile and looked at the stairs where her grandma was coming down from and said "well granny I think you don't need to dress up for the date anymore, you already look so beautiful, pops here will be having a heart attack if you look anymore beautiful than now".

Her grandma laughed at her and said "hush you child, you and your pops is so same, you guys flirt with me all the time" and blushed a little. Y/N and her grandpa laughed and Y/N said "well what can we say, it's not our fault that you are so beautiful, right pops?". Her pops nodded his head at her and they high-fived each other. Y/N looked at her grandparents and fondly smiled, wanting to have love life just like them, she shook her head and said "well I will be having my dinner with Damon toady, since you guys will be out so I don't want to be alone" and goes upstairs to her room, not noticing her grandparents who shared a knowing smile hearing her.

Around evening or so Y/N woke up, she rubbed her eyes and looked at the clock and realized her grandparents will head out soon. She goes downstairs and saw Damon with her grandparents, she walk up to them and said "Damon what are you doing here?", Damon turned to her and gave small smile "well I'm here to pick you up, you know for our dinner date" and wriggled his eyes at her. Y/N felt her heart speed up but controlled herself and said "c'mon Damon stop joking around" and fondly rolled her eyes at him. They both bid goodbyes to her grandparents and then they left for the boarding house. Upon reaching there Y/N goes to the room she always stays there whenever she had a sleepover and changed into more comfortable clothes and then goes downstairs.

When she walk up to the kitchen, Damon looked at her and gave her smile and said "Hey perfect timing, I was bout to call you, dinner's ready". She took a sit on the stool and Damon puts a plate in front of her, she looked at the plate and let out a cute laugh and said "You made chicken teriyaki meatballs with rice, goodness you really took this dinner very seriously".

Damon smiled at her hearing her laugh and said "well I did say it was a dinner date didn't I?" and raised his brows at her, Y/N slightly blushed at his words and started to eat. After dinner, Y/N was sitting on the couch in the balcony of her room, admiring the night sky when Damon slight beside her and said "Well looks like we are admiring the stars today", A smile formed on her face and she said "yeah it's looking so much more beautiful than other nights, I don't know why but it do".

They both set with a comfortable silent when Y/N spoke "Damon, do you know what your name means?", Damon shook his head and said "No, I don't know what it means, I did ask once to my mom but I don't remember what she said" and looked at her "do you know?". Y/N turned to look at his face and said "yeah I know......, in Latin Damon means a loyal friend and... in Hindu it means Blue sky", She then looked back to the night sky and said "sometimes dark cloudy clouds covers the bright blue sky and people think some bad or big rain gonna pour out they get scared but they don't realize that after sometime the dark clouds leaves and the sky will be clear, it will show it's beautiful color once again because those dark clouds cannot always cover the blue sky, it will eventually come out. You are just like that Blue sky Damon, no matter how much anyone say you are an bad or evil person, It doesn't matter to me because I know how beautiful and amazing person you are". Damon was now totally looking at her with so much emotions but he also understand her deep meaning with those words.

She looked back at him and said "there's also a spiritual meaning of your name, do-do you wanna know?". Damon was looking at very intensely and just slightly nodded his head at her, "In spiritual meaning it means a guardian spirit" said Y/N with a gentle voice, she cupped one of his cheek and softly stroked it and said "you are like a guardian spirit to me Damon, you always help me, save me from danger, care for me, you are like my own guardian spirit and I'm thankful that our lives collided with each other, that you came into my life, thank you Damon, thank you for everything" as soon as she stop saying Damon pulled her towards him and hugged her very tightly.........

and just like that they both fall asleep in each other embrace, feeling warm, safe..........and mainly home.

I almost started crying again. Yay!! The new video out on Instagram has clips from every season including ones we haven't seen of s4. I forgot how new all the actors were. I mean, this was Aidan's second show, he started it when he was only 13. This was literally Emmy's first time in front of a camera, I mean, wow. They all play such complex characters and them all being newish and small actors is just... amazing. They're all pros. They pulled it off so well and beautifully. I'll stop talking about it here because I'm about to cry and that would be dumb, so. I'm really proud of all of them.

DC character headcanons, cuz why not.

I’m really bored in class, and I said forever ago I might do this. So, here’s DC characters and my hcs for them (ethnicity, gender, sexuality, etc). 

Bruce Wayne: Half-Jewish (mothers’ side, see Kane family). Pansexual. He/Him.

Dick Grayson: Romani. Bisexual. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them.

Jason Todd: Hispanic from his mother’s side (Sheila and Catherine). Unlabeled, but dates any gender. He/They.

Tim Drake: Wasian, Chinese from his mother’s side. Bisexual, leans towards men. He/They.

Duke Thomas: Half African American, Half whatever his dad (Gnomon) is. Demi bisexual. He/Him.

Damian Wayne: Jewish and Caucasian from Bruce’s side, Mixed Arabic and Chinese from Talia. Unlabeled, just likes whoever. He/Him.

Clark Kent: Kryptonian, though raised American. Bisexual. He/They/Ze. Though is open to most masculine or genderless pronouns, as krypton has a different expression of gender (this is a headcanon of mine)

Conner Kent/Kon-El: Kryptonian from Clark, has some German and American from Luthor. Homosexual. Genderfluid. He/Him or any masculine or genderless pronouns.

Jonathan “Jon” Kent: Kryptonian from Clark, some Latino and Caucasian from Lois. Unlabeled, just likes whoever. He/They.

Barry Allen: Might be Jewish (has described himself as an attractive Jewish boy). Bisexual. He/Him.

Wally West: Caucasian, American. Pansexual. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them.

Bart Allen: Caucasian, American. Omnisexual, but leaning towards men. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them or Xe/Xem.

Hal Jordan: Half-Jewish (mothers’ side) though raised catholic (fathers’ side). Unlabeled, just likes whoever. He/They/Xe, is fine with any masculine or genderless pronouns, as many alien languages don’t have multiple pronouns.

 Guy Gardner: Caucasian American for the most part, but is a descendant of the space-traveling Vuldarians, so he’s part Alien. Queer. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them or many other pronouns used by alien species.

 Oliver Queen: Caucasian, American. Pansexual. He/Him but is fine with They/Them.

Roy Harper: Caucasian, but adopted by and raised Navajo. Unlabeled, just likes whoever he likes. He/Him.

 Michael Jon Carter (Booster Gold): Half-Jewish, through his Levin ancestors. (Confirmed by Jeff Katz). Omnisexual. Genderqueer. He/She/They, any pronouns, though used He/Him for the most part since its easier for others.

 Ted Kord (Blue Beetle): Might be Jewish (Again from Jeff Katz). Demi Bisexual. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them.
