I AM DAMAGED
Im currently watching Brooklyn nine-nine while writing this :D
Part 2!
Part 1 -> I am damaged (Part 1)
(If anyone knows who the artist is for the art below please lmk xo)
Tumblr media
*first person pov*
I became friends with Carrie and Jamie today, they were super nice and insisted I sat with them every day.
Even though I made new friends I can’t shake the feeling of betrayal, JD just pretty much replaced me? We’ve been friends for years and one girl comes along and ruins it.
Diary, why does high school suck?
I’ll give updates soon,
Y/N
I hear a knock on my bedroom door and shove my diary under my pillow. “Come in!”
My dad walks in with a cup of (Y/F/D) for me. “Thanks”, I smile as he hands it to me.
“I was really expecting JD to come over today”, My dad frowned.
I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I may have been replaced, he’d be devastated.
“Yeah, he had more homework than me for today so he had to get that done”, I said, it was clearly a lie. I was just hoping the school didn’t tell my dad we were in pretty much all the same classes.
“Ah, that makes sense. I’m heading out to get groceries, need anything?”, he asked.
I thought for a minute. “Y/F/F, please?”
“Sure kiddo, see you when I come back”, he smiled.
“Thanks, love you!”, I yelled as he walked down the hall.
“Love you too!”, he shouted back.
I laid on my back and stared up at the ceiling silently. This shit sucks.
*Next day*
I walked to school, I didn’t want to have to talk to JD today. He’s doing my head in and I know I’d say something I regret.
“Y/N!!! C’MERE!”, I saw Carrie down the hall yelling to me.
I ran down to her and smiled.
“Hey!! Wassup?”, I asked.
“WE HAVE THE FIRST CLASS TOGETHER!”, she said jumping around happily.
“Oh my god! YAY!”, I said excitedly, I joined in with her jumping around.
“C’mon!”, she grabbed my hand and yanked me down the hall.
“WAIT CARRIE MY LOCKER”, I whisper shouted at her, laughing.
“OH SHIT, YEAH”, she whisper shouted back.
We ran towards my locker, and guess who I fucking bumped into. Yep, you guessed it, JD.
“Hey, watch where your going”, he laughed. Then he looked down at me.
“Oh, Y/N, hey where were you this morning? I stopped by your house to bring you to school”, he asked.
“Mhm Yeah I’m gonna walk now”, I replied in a dead-pan tone.
“What?”, he asked, he looked really puzzled.
“Mhm”, I replied.
Carrie chirped in, “OO! You should come to school with me and Jamie! It’s so funny and it’ll be more fun with you!”, she jumped.
“Yeah thatd be amazing!” I smiled, turning back to JD with a cold look and walking off.
JD was clearly confused. Which made me even angrier.
I went to my locker and glanced over at him and saw him smiling and laughing with Veronica.
I tried ignore it and went back to talking to Carrie.
*lunch*
Carrie and I walked into the cafeteria and went on a hunt for Jamie. He didn’t come in until second class, he had a dentist appointment or some shit like that.
We found him and sat down. They entire lunch I couldn’t stop glancing at JD. The first few minutes of lunch I could see him looking at me. He seemed confused. And then he saw Jamie, and seemed mad.
He was about to get up, a assume to come over, but Veronica went over and they both sat back down.
God this is a pain in the ass.
“Yo, Y/N, you okay?”, Jamie asked. “You keep spacing out”
“Yeah I’m fine, just tired”, I replied, smiling lightly.
“Guys, I have French next class so I’m gonna go home and pretend I’m sick. I have a test I didn’t study for”, Carrie explained, standing up.
“Okay Carr, see ya”, Jamie said.
“Bye, Carr”, I smiled.
Carrie walked away and I turned to Jamie.
“Does she do that a lot?”
“Skip? Yeah, mainly if she has a test she didn’t study for”, he laughed.
“She’s such a mood”, I laughed back.
We laughed and joked for the rest of lunch. The entire time I felt eyes burning into the back of my head.
*Ring*
The school bell rang.
“What subject ya have next?”, Jamie asked.
“German, you?”
“Art”, he said.
He jokingly blew a raspberry as me and ran off to art class. I laughed at i watched him skipping down the halls like an idiot.
He’s kinda cute.
I went off to German and sat down in the back.
Oh fuck no.
J.D. walked into my class. We made direct eye contact and I broke it immediately.
He walked over and sat down next to me.
“Have you been ignoring me?”, he asked.
“No.”
“Then why did you randomly just say you want to start walking and then agree to getting a lift with someone else?”
“Because they’re my friends and I like them”, I said coldly.
“I’m your friend. Hell, I’m your best friend! I’m the only guy you spoke to in the past 17 years of your life!”, he snarled.
“Hm, I thought Veronica was your new best friend”, I mumbled.
“What? This is all about Veronica? Are you serious?”, his tone got angrier and angrier as he went on.
“Yes! Why the fuck would you ask me to hang out and then right after you ignored me and cancelled our plans for another girl?”, I started to feel more rage bubbling inside me.
“I only did that cause of your little moment with Jamie”, he whisper shouted.
“And then Veronica proceeded to glare at me any moment she possibly could”, I continued on, ignoring his last sentence.
“You like Jamie, don’t you”, he stopped and stared at me.
“Well he surely treats me better than you”, I muttered.
Why does he look so pissed? No, not pissed, maniac?
I slightly heard him mumble something under his breathe, I couldn’t hear the full sentence though, because he got up and walked out of the class.
*Third person pov*
“Oh, you’re gonna live the day to regret saying that darling”, JD mumbled. Y/N only heard yo to the word “live”. JDs eyes were glowing with a sense of anger and a psychotic look on his face.
Good luck, Y/N

Fondness and Devotion
Companion piece to this
Yosuke awoke to a steadily beeping machine, matching up with the pounding throb in his head. His senses were muddied, the voices muffled. He forced his eyes open, blinking rapidly to clarify his vision. The voices grew louder, and more recognizable. His friends were crowded into a small hospital room, the smell of disinfectant and the smells sticking to the others filled the room. The tv was on, but muted, causing the room to fill with a faint blue glow.
Yosuke pushed himself into a sitting position, taking in his surroundings. The group was arguing about something, his name popped up randomly.
“What am I doing here?” He asked. His voice was raspy, pained even to his ears. His head throbbed against the lights and the sounds. It was too much too quickly.
Everyone stopped arguing and turned to look at Yosuke. Shock and cautious relief tinted their expressions. Yosuke counted the faces around him, his mother next to him and in the one chair that they could find. That left Chie and Kanji leaning against the wall. Yukiko was near the door standing politely.
“You’re awake.” Chie sighed. “When we found you behind Junes, we thought-”
“It was just some punks. I wasn’t even hit that hard.” Yosuke shot them an easygoing smile.
“You were hit with a brick. It crumbled. You were bleeding. We called Yu-Senpai” Kanji snapped. He was cut off.
“You did what? He doesn’t need to be concerned with this” Yosuke shook his head despite the pain.
“But I do. Sorry to interrupt. I should probably take your statement if it’s ok with you.” A new voice entered the room. Dojima stepped in, his hair a mess.  Bags under his eyes from exhaustion.
“I’ll do it, but…” Yosuke looked around to silently urge them to leave.
One by one the group left, pulling out their phones in an attempt to contact the others, updating them on Yosuke’s condition.
Yosuke’s mother hesitated for a moment, before she too stood up and left.
“He’s on his way.” Dojima sighed and sat down.
Yosuke winced. He looked down, his hair falling in front of his face. “I suppose that can’t be helped.”
“Is there a reason you didn’t want my nephew to know?” Dojima sat in the newly emptied chair.
“He’s protective. He’s fearless.” Yosuke sighed.
“He’d hunt down the people who jumped you, one by one, and get payback?” Dojima raised an eyebrow. “I mean he hunted down a murderer between soccer practice and drama practice.”
“People…?” Yosuke raised an eyebrow.
“There was video, but for that report.” Dojima pulled out a small notebook.
“I mean I was walking to my bike, and I heard someone saying something, but something hit the back of my head.” Yosuke rubbed the back of his head, bandages were placed on the back of his head, probably over a shaved patch of hair. It would grow back soon anyway.
“Sound like it hurt.” Dojima sighed. “You were lucky it was just a face brick. It was pretty crumbled.” when we found you.
“It hurts, but I’ll live.” Yousuke frowned. “When did you guys tell Yu?”
“As soon as you were in my ambulance. He’ll be here by tomorrow if he’s not here within the hour.” Dojima made a few notes and put his notebook away.
“He still hasn’t graduated. That’s still a few weeks away.” Yosuke leaned into his pillow.
“You’ve seen his grades. He’ll be fine. Which reminds me, by the way, your cram school was notified. You were ahead so You’ll be ok to take a breather and recover.” Dojima smiled kindly. Yosuke rubbed at his head. “I’ll call a nurse, rest up, kid.”
--------
Yosuke woke up with more ease the second time around, with familiar silver hair resting on his chest. Yosuke took a deep breath and rested a hand on the back of Yu’s head. Yu flinched slightly, jerking his head up to look at his partner. His eyes were wet and widened.
“Partner…” Yu sat up, brushing the hair out of his eyes, exposing injured, scabbed-over knuckles. Yosuke frowned at that but looked past it, pulling Yu back down into his arms, and squeezing the other into a tight hug. Yu was quiet for a moment, sighing deeply to calm himself.
“You didn’t have to come,” Yosuke whispered.
“They thought you were going to die. I thought you were going to die.” Yu burrowed his head into Yosuke’s chest.
“I’m ok, just relax. We’ll see each other when you graduate.” Yosuke promised.
“When we graduate.” Yu corrected. “Just be careful, you were hurt pretty bad.”
“I’ve had worse.” Yosuke smiled sardonically.
“Don’t joke about that. This isn’t like the tv world.” Yu looked up at Yosuke. “I can’t bring you back.”
“You won’t need to.”
Yu grabbed the blanket around Yosuke, his knuckles turning white. Silence filled the room. Yu’s shoulders shook as Yosuke’s gown grew wet. Yosuke looked around trying to collect his thoughts. “How long will you stay?”
“Until you recover,” Yu promised. “I want to make sure you’re ok.”
“I’m getting better every moment.” Yosuke gave a small smile.

Okay so after saying things were a bit hit and miss I got like 8 episodes in a row that I liked so things definitely picked up, first off yeah you were right Hush is so good and it's even more impressive that it's so good standalone rather than like I Will Remember You which stands on the shoulders of all that came before. 'obscenestake.gif, my beloved' is direct from my notes and yeah that whole scene was an all timer for sure. But even in general killer sound design, great physical acting on all fronts, also the Gentlemen great designs, and real unsettling. Also getting to see Tara for the first time was very nice. And I give it bonus points cause I was sure it was gonna kill off Olivia because she was expendable but she managed to live so good for her.
Loved Doomed it was great having prime Hellmouth stuff and Buffy death impacts. Everyone getting to go back to school. Spike also got some great stuff in this episode with him feeling doomed himself and getting that turn around loving fighting demons now. Also from my notes and my now rarely appearing Faith Watch portion Buffy unprompted invoking her in a comparison to Riley, mirror all the love interests go ahead.
Similarly in A New Man I appreciate whoever made the decision to have Ethan Rayne talk about how he and Giles are sorcerers who own the night while drinking together and then immediately cutting to Willow and Tara having their very romantic rose magic night together, what could this possibly imply about Giles and Ethan's past relationship? Also just like whenever Ethan shows up I have a great time love that guy, and especially that this time there wasn't even a larger plan it was just he wanted to mess with Giles. Plus demon Giles teamup with Spike, very fun especially the last shot of him in the episode was crashing Giles' car.
On the Angel front Hero and all the fallout that's been happening on that front has been great, like I knew Doyle couldn't have been sticking around forever but I didn't realise it was so soon that "Is that it, am I done?" At the end of the episode hit so hard, loved it. Parting Gifts with some fallout from that and the return of Wesley loved it. I enjoyed Somnambulist's look at Angel's past siring coming back on him, surely the most lesser member of Angel's family. I also enjoy that to be Angel's friend you have to promise you'll kill him. Anyway then Expecting broke my streak and She wasn't that much better so Angel really letting the side down there.
The Initiative stuff across I in Team and Goodbye Iowa was okay. I liked all the Buffy really doesn't fit into that style of operation, but I feel like it was a bit of lazy writing to just kill off Walsh immediately after her heel turn instead of dealing with the fallout of Buffy having a human enemy she can't kill or anything like Ethan had suggested towards in A New Man where the answer was him being carted off to an off grid jail which can't be done to Walsh. And Adam has a floppy disk drive on his chest which is pretty incredible and is his greatest strength for me so far they at least put him over physically strong so he's got that going for him. I am wondering if he's kinda a mirror for Spike with him being too human for demons now and obviously was always too demon for humans and Adam is made of Demons and Humans but that might be pushing it and he's just a mirror for Riley. But good for Buffy getting a good sexual encounter with Riley that might help her start working off the s2 Angel trauma even if things did still rapidly deteriorate soon after. Also lotta cute outfits for Buffy in Goodbye Iowa, her sushi pajamas that bandana outfit she was hunting in, the disguise that at first was just her with a pair of glasses on until she found a lab coat in the elevator.
I am really enjoying Spike now I said it last update but he's such good fun. I've got This Year's Girl up next so I'm very much looking forwards to that.
Hush is SUCH a good episode. I honestly really love it when Buffy leans more into its straight up horror elements. And I love when it spends a whole episode on a particular gimmick and it really pays off. Ethan is ALSO really fun and you're so right the juxtaposition of him and giles/tara and willow is very :eyes emoji: - love ethan, wish he showed up more.
and hard agree re: walsh. i think this is one of the key places where the entire s4 big bad falters hard. it's tough bc the master in s1 was iconic and really more about buffy vs mortality/fate, right? and it set the tone, worked perfectly. s2/s3 had a great one-two punch in angel and faith, deeply personal an emotional. so s4 is in a tough starting place! i think keeping walsh around and leveraging her relationship with riley would have been more effective than the pivot to adam. alas.
re: riley also - he has many critics but i DO think it's nice that after much agony buffy finally got just a big handsome boyfriend she could be horny with and have it not be totally traumatizing. she deserves this.
Expecting + She are like two of the worst episodes of television ever made. augh. and i've got some major issues with hero BUT you're right that "Is that it, am I done?" hits so fucking hard. god. what a moment.

Doodle
Summary: Newt/Reader; Soulmate AU,whatever you write/draw on your skin appears on your soulmates
All throughout school you’d catch doodles and scribbles on your arms; occasionally the faint sketch of some creature but mostly small flowers or magically drawn birds. You’d never figured out who it was during your time at hogwarts; but when you started working in the ministry; the drawings became a comfort, you often wonder if they play a role in your decision to work in the Magical Creature’s department. You don’t usually respond to the drawings, they either appear in places you can’t easily reach due to your clothes covering them; or you’re working on gathering information and trying your best to do research about the creatures everyone wants to destroy. You hate how wrong that feels and you take more comfort in the drawings of the creatures as if they’re being studied, not hunted; soon lists were added; odd ingredients or items. It was a silly habit but you found yourself buying the plants that were most commonly listed as well as keeping a small hoard of galleons for whatever kept stealing your soulmates. You’d never actually talked to him; but one day after he angrily scraped three underlines under ‘liquid seaweed’ did you draw a small frowning niffler next to it; you added a speech bubble and the words “that stung” colouring in the tears. The reaction was immediate; swirls and flowers and branches suddenly heated your skin, magically drawn on. It sunk in your soulmate never realized you’d returned the doodles; just that they had forgotten how much they’d drawn on themselves.
I’ve never thought I would have a soulmate all my time at ----------- I couldn’t ever remember seeing drawings. You frown and the gap in the sentence; you knew locations and names wouldn’t go through. You draw the niffler again; sitting on your wrist and adding a speech bubble filled with magic hearts I always thought you were too busy with whatever you do.
Research. He responds and draws a heart around the niffler.
You like nifflers? You ask and he draws another bunch of hearts before adding. They're cute but they steal everything shiny he adds a frown and you cross over it grinning as you draw yet another niffler holding a heart. They just want love is all; and all your shinies. You look up jumping when you see Thesues Scamander standing in front of your desk looking unimpressed.
“Sorry sir; what can I do for you?”
“I need the report from the incident with the grindylows from the other day. Murklow said that it could be a cover for a Grindelwald meeting.” You nod pulling your sleeve down and waving your wand to pull the report he’s asking for.
“Here you are sir; anything else?”
“Were you talking to your soulmate?” You flush a little at his question, nodding.
“Well if he likes nifflers as much as you; ask about other creatures?”
“Oh that’s a good idea sir!” You grin and he smiles softly.
“Call me Theseus, Y/N.” You nod, waiting until Theseus leaves and then scribbling on your arm a question that your soulmate leaves blank for two hours. Do you like magical creatures or are you like most others? You’re not sure what you’re expecting but you receive a paragraph along your thigh with only a few of the words blanked. You read through all of it twice grinning at how passionately he talks about how misunderstood most creatures are. You draw a niffler offering a heart out and then ask Have you read Fantastic beasts and where to find them? It just came out; I love it. You grin to yourself when a string of hearts answers your question. What do you think of the author? You chew your lip jumping when your boss calls you for a new case. You scowl at the information; most of the department still believed in the older information of most of the magical creatures. The new case was investigating a group of knarls that were nearing a muggle area. You spend the rest of the day gathering as much information about the area the knarls were last seen and what you’ll need to capture and relocate them.
Sorry work got busy; I love the author, he seems so kind and wonderful. You offer frowning when there’s no reply.
“Y/N!” You turn when you hear your name called and are surprised to see Thesues walking over.
“Yes?”
“You’re working on that Knarl case right?” You nod letting Theseus update you on the whereabouts, apparently the knarls were only in the muggle area because there’s a Jarvey that took over there home.
“A Jarvey.” You scowl sighing.
“Thank you Theseus; this makes dealing with it a lot easier; at least I can sort of talk to the Jarvey.” You roll your eyes and he grins.
“You off home now?”
“No; I’m off to go see if I can find the Jarvey; or the Knarls.”
“You think you can talk to them?”
“The Knarls yes; the Jarvey, hopefully.” You wave goodbye to Theseus as you take the floo network home.
Do you know about Jarvey’s? I have to deal with one soon. You wait for a reply as you pack a bag; drumming your fingers as you get no response before you apparate to the area that the report said they were in.
To catch one? You nod before writing yes. All you get is a half sketch half doodle of a niffler, with a heart and it making what you assume is a thumbs up gesture.
You groan waking up after having spent most of the night trying to convince the Jarvey to leave the Knarls alone and find a better home. You’d been called a bitch and vermin about fifty times before you’d gone to speak to the Knarls; the Jarvey had been offended enough to counter offer your idea of leaving the Knarls home to find a new one for himself. That was after he’d angrily scraped at your arm; almost tearing through the doodled nifflers.
You managed to agree to rehome the Knarls away from the muggle area; and even offered the Jarvey some moles you’d managed to gather before you’d gone to meet them. You’d gotten as close to a thank you as possible from a Jarvey and he even offered to come with you to the ministry to explain what you’d agreed with. You’d assured him while you appreciated it; you didn’t like the idea of him being captured. He’d then drawn a crude sort of star on your palm with a black marker he’d found and you’d returned to the ministry with the Knarls in a cat carrier with blankets charmed to stay warm.
“Good morning Y/N.” Thesues grins and you nod yawning.
“Late night?”
“Yeah; but I got the knarls.”
“You got the knarls?” He looks down to the case and you grin.
“And the jarvey?”
“He’s enjoying his new home and the snack I brought him.”
“You fed the Jarvey? And talked to it?”
“I mean I don’t know how much of a conversation it was; I was explaining everything going on and he kept calling me a bitch.” You shrug setting the knarls; which continue to sleep under your desk as you start to work up the report.
Did it go okay? You grin at your soulmates question, drawing a crude doodle of the knarls in the carrier. We all survived. Minus my pride. You don’t look at the response for a while finishing up the report and waiting till lunch to find your supervisor to ask about relocating the knarls.
The jarvey decided to knock me down a peg. Beside the explanation you doodle the jarvey with an angry face and a little speech bubble with the words bitch and vermin in it. The only response is a frowning face.
Since you know so much about magical creatures; where's the safest place for me to bring the knarls? You chew your lip hoping that wherever he describes won’t be blanked out. Suitcase. Or a large field with plenty of hedgerows; anywhere a hedgehog would live. You nod drawing a circle and question marks around the word suitcase.
“Y/N where are you off to?” You hold up the case, the knarls chattering at you and you frown.
“I’m sorry guys; I just have to have a quick chat and we can get you a nice big field and some new worm hunting grounds.” They chitter again and you sigh.
“I’m heading to drop the knarls off to a much better home.”
“Your soulmate give you advice?” Theseus grins as he walks up spotting the carrier in your hands.
“Apparently I need a suitcase.” You laugh showing Thesues the writing on your arm. He nods glancing from the knarls to your arm and back to you. He doesn’t say anymore simply turning away back towards his department. You shrug and leave the ministry building to apparate to one of your favourite spots in the countryside. You glance to the abandoned cottage before nuding the door open and opening the carrier to let the knarls wander out.
“There we are. Is this an okay spot?” You hum as the knarls seem to vanish. You make a note to check back on them in the coming weeks. You know you still have time for lunch but you decide to return back to the ministry to avoid rushing and being able to have a cup of tea in peace. You’re sitting in the lobby people watching when you can see a figure stagger out from the floo network and almost tackle Theseus to the ground. You try not to laugh when Theseus grins hugging the figure as the figure seems to hang limply in his grip for a moment before his head swivels looking around.
“It’s lunch right now.” You can hear Thesues’ voice and you note how the man next to him wilts. You try your best not to laugh at them returning to your tea before you can feel eyes on you. You don’t say anything feeling the faint scratch of a pen on your arm. Turn around and wave. You roll your eyes turning and waving. The man next to Theseus stares at the ground while Thesues moves towards you.
“Y/N. How’s lunch going?”
“You lost your friend.”
“My brother actually, Newt; come over here and say hello to Y/N she works in the department for magical creatures.”
“Oh; hello.” He walks slowly over extending his hand and you catch a familiar black star shape on his palm.
“Your soulmate?” You question and he nods.
“No clue what they mean by the star; but it’s nice to finally talk to them.” He grins slightly and you laugh a little nodding.
“What about you?” Thesues comments and you look down to your palm at the star shape.
“The Jarvey I talked to earlier. He decided it was a parting gift.” Newt steps closer to examine it; his fingers brushing over your palm; barely touching it.
“Is this the same jarvey that called you a bitch and vermin? I might have to have a word with him.” He mumbles and you try your best not to give anything away with how Newt keeps side glancing to Theseus.
“I was wondering; since you’re the expert here; I dropped the knarls off to a new area; and I don’t know if it’s a proper place for them..” You trail off and can see Thesues roll his eyes.
“You two enjoy your talk about knarls; remember lunch is over in twenty minutes.” Thesues reminds you and you nod waiting as he leaves before you look up at Newt.
“Hey.” He grins watching as you press your palms together to match the stars up.
“Your drawings are much better than my doodles of a niffler.”
“I thought they were very true to reality.”
“Is this why you mentioned a suitcase.”
“Yes; did it help you catch on?” he tilts his head and you gasp. He grins as Pickett pokes his head out.
“Not now Pickett.” Your hand drifts upwards and Pickett’s hands reach towards you and climbs on your hand.
“Oh. Hello there sweetheart. Aren’t you just the most impressive bowtruckle I’ve ever seen.” Pickett taps his little hands on your figner nails and Newt sighs.
“His ego is big enough; please don’t lie to him.”
“It’s the truth. No harm in reminding him. He really is incredible though. His leaves are a beautiful green shade.” You grin and Pickett taps faster on your hand before scurrying towards your shoulder as Newt reaches for him.
“Pickett no!” he scolds trying to grasp at the bowtruckle as he hunkers down  on your shoulder.
“Newt it’s alright; I can show you where the knarls are anyways.” He looks towards the clock and you catch your supervisor's attention.
“Yes Y/N.”
“I dropped the knarls off sir; is there anything else?”
“Oh good; we have two new cases one involving; what else were you going to ask.”
“Well sir; I’ve just found my soulmate and I was hoping-“
“Go home! Talk with each other. For Merlins sake Y/N; you have enough vacation days regardless of  the soul week you get to spend off. Go on.” He nods and you grin.
“Thank you.” You grin and Newt waves to him, you laugh a little when he falters and glaces to both of you.
“Theseus is going to kill me.” He grins and you quirk an eyebrow.
“Really?”
“Yes; I was just talking about how I finally realized I do have a soulmate and he all but demanded to see what we’d written. He lost it when he saw the writing; I guess I know why. He recognised your handwriting.” You smile at him nodding to the Floo network.
“Here; hold my hand.” Your hand twines with his as you step into the floo-place and close your eyes speaking the area of the countryside.
“Here we are.” You grin and Newt looks around.
“This seems perfect for knarls.” You grin back at him.
“Now may I show you the first option?”
“The suitcase?” You look confused and he grins holding his hand out. You close your eyes; you’re not sure why but Newt grins.
“Okay open!” you spot his face; halfway obscured by a young Occamy curling around his neck.

A NEW WORLD - PART ONE (UPDATED)
A Quiet Place 2 Fanfic
Pairing: Emmett (A Quiet Place 2) x Fem!Reader
Summary: This story will follow Emmett and the Reader before and after the invasion. Each Part will be about 1,000 to 2,000 words long and take place on a particular day (as listed on each part).
Warning: Mild Smut, Age Gap, Alcohol Abuse, Spoilers for AQP2
***
DAY: 41 DAYS BEFORE THE INVASION
It was a sunny Saturday evening and you were out watching the local baseball match. Your half brother Lucas was playing and, as usual, your mother was unable to take him to the game.
Ever since your step father had passed away two years ago, she became addicted to alcohol, drinking moonshine in the early hours of the morning.
Your younger sister quickly moved out when she turned 18 but you couldn’t leave your step brother behind. He was only 12 years old and too young to care for himself.
Most of your mother’s income support payments were spent on booze and you were fortunate enough that your stepfather’s life insurance payout covered the remainder of the mortgage on the house.
In order to buy food for yourself and your brother, you had to work hard. You’ve been attending an educational program in town to become a midwife and, at the age of 22, you almost completed your studies. Your goal was to move to Georgia with your brother and make a new life for yourself.
But little did you know that life had other plans in store for you, beginning on that particular day, at the baseball game.
***
‘Hey Y/N’ you heard from behind you and you quickly turned your head only to see your colleague’s husband Emmett sit there with his son Max, watching his other son Henry play alongside your brother Lucas.
‘Oh god Emmett, what happened?’ you asked as you saw his hand covered in bandages.
‘This? It’s nothing. Just a hunting accident’ Emmett explained and you recalled Nora telling you that he had been away for several days with two of his friends causing a major fight between Nora and him.
You haven’t seen Nora since and what she didn’t tell you that day was that, following the fight, she decided to take a break from their marriage.
Nora was your supervisor at the hospital where you were doing your work experience hours and she was rather difficult to deal with whenever she and her husband had a fight. She loved him and he loved her, but in recent months their marriage was going through some ups and downs and you could see that she was obviously needing some time to revaluate matters.
‘Did Nora take a look at it. The bandage needs to be changed. It doesn’t look right Emmett’ you said concerned as you took his hand into yours, evaluating his injury. You had done about three units of nursing before changing over to midwifery in your course.
‘Nora is out of town, visiting her sister’ he explained and you couldn’t help but give Emmett a sorry look. They were fighting again you thought and it had become a frequent occurrence.
‘Perhaps when she comes back, I should look after Henry and Max again for you guys and you can take her out on a date or something’ you suggested. You frequently babysat for Nora and Emmett to make some extra money.
‘The truth is that we are taking a break for now. But, if things change, I would gladly accept your offer’ Emmett smiled and you couldn’t help but smile back at him. In your opinion he was a nice and incredibly attractive man. He was also a fantastic father to Max and this was something you picked up on immediately when you first met him several years ago through Evelyn and Lee whose children you also frequently babysat.
You also knew that Nora and him had met over twenty years ago. They were high school sweethearts. Everyone saw them both as the perfect couple but their relationship was far from being perfect.
Just over a year ago you heard rumours that, about two years ago, Nora had a short-lived affair but Emmett forgave her. He was a family man and valued his marriage. His sons were everything to him and leaving them would never have been option for Emmett.
He was incredible and you found it difficult to admit to yourself that, over the past two years, you were developing a little a crush on him.
***
About an hour later, the game had finished and you suggested to Emmett that he comes to your house so that you could have a look at his hand.
Your house was a short five-minute walk from the baseball field and Emmett agreed reluctantly after you told him that your mother wasn’t home.
He knew what state your mother was in and he would not have exposed his sons to her constant swearing and antics when she was drunk.
When you arrived at your house, Emmett’s sons and your brother went to play outside in the garden with your brother’s new soccer ball which you had bought him for his birthday while you looked through the medicine cabinet to find some more bandages and some betadine.
‘Have you considered admitting her to rehab?’ Emmett asked as he sat down at the kitchen table, besides which was a large plastic box with several empty bottles of spirits.
‘That’s the plan. I want to take Lucas to Georgia as soon as she is in rehab’ you explained as you carefully removed Emmett’s bandage.
‘This will hurt’ you then went on to say before cleaning his wound and applying some betadine.
‘Fuck’ he complained as you were rinsing out the wound and, after you were finally done cleaning it, you placed a fresh bandage over his hand.
‘You need to keep this clean alright?’ you said with your hands still holding on to his hand while you looked at him with a warm smile.
This was the first time you noticed how blue his eyes were, a shade of deep shimmering blue just as the sea and just as the depth of the ocean, you could get lost in them.
‘Thanks’ he nodded, not bothering to pull his hand away from you as you were staring at him.
‘Nora is one lucky woman’ you sighed as you finally collected your thoughts and let go of his hand.
‘Why? Because she finally is getting rid of me?’ Emmett laughed but knowing exactly what you meant.
‘No that’s not what I meant Emmett. In fact, I think she is crazy thinking about leaving a man like you’ you said shyly and with flushed cheeks as you looked down at his hand once again.
‘Right’ Emmett chuckled and, just as he did, you moved one of your hands over his cheeks.
‘Don’t doubt yourself Emmett’ you said before, slowly and tentatively pressing your lips onto his.
He didn’t retract, nor did he pull away as, for a short moment, he allowed the kiss. Your lips were soft and sweet and he couldn’t recall the last time another woman had kissed him.
Eventually, you broke the kiss at your own accord and Emmett looked at you as if he had seen a ghost. He was surprised by your actions and his eyes were full of questions.
‘I am so sorry’ you then shuddered while Emmett was still speechless.
‘I should go now’ he quickly said, unable to even look at you after what had just happened.
‘Emmett?’ you said as he got up from the chair next to yours. ‘I am sorry, really…I shouldn’t have’ you said somewhat flustered.
‘Y/N, it’s fine. Let’s just forget about it, aright?’ he smiled as he ran his hand over your shoulder in the way a friend would.
You nodded just before he left but the truth was that you couldn’t forget about it. This kiss stayed with you for the rest of the day.
***
Just as the evening had arrived and you were sitting in your bed, reading yet another novel you had borrowed from the library, you imagined yourself with Emmett.
This wasn’t right, you thought. You should not be thinking about him the way you did. He was a man twice your age. But you couldn’t help it and your imagination was running wild.
His lips were on yours, his fingers roaming over your body and you simply couldn’t go to sleep that night until you satisfied your needs with the small vibrator you kept in your beside table.
‘God damn Y/N’ your inner voice tried to reason. But you wouldn’t listen to it until you found your release that night which is when, finally, you drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 4
(Adj)unfamiliar, rare, strange and yet marvelous
Tumblr media
"I'll drive you to school"
Ryuu stopped (Y/n) before she could leave the house, she looked confused at her older brother. He simply patted her head handing her a helmet, guiding her towards his motorcycle "I just wanna make sure you get to school safely "
"Ryuu…"
"A girl was raped … and her boyfriend was beaten up"
"What?"
Ryuu fixed the helmet in his sister's head, staring down at her. He was thankful for those two bringing her home safe, if Meobuis had found her and ….
"Just ...please don't walk home alone"
"But"
"(Y/n) … I know .. just.."
He pulled his sister into his chest, he just needed some reassurance that she was okay. He couldn't imagine what that poor girl's family felt like, if Moebuis had attacked (Y/n) he would have hunted them down and killed them. Something was up ever since Osanai had taken over Moebius has gone to shit.
(Y/n) would have to be careful at least until he figured out what's going on. He handed her one of his jackets, she looked up confused "It's just for reinsurance" he smiled down at her "C'mon let's get you to school "
(Y/n) couldn't remember the last time she rode with her brother, she always loved feeling the wind against her skin. She clung onto his leather jacket as he sped off dropping her off at school. Surprising her group of friends, Yamagishi started gushing when he noticed Ryuu, mumbling about the male and some nickname 'Cerberus'
"Tsuyoshi, your family is so cool!"
Ryuu stared at the muttering boy raising an eyebrow, so these were the boys she dragged home with her. Koji had told him about the little incident and how (Y/n) had decided to take on Kiyomasa, of course he was proud of her but he seriously questioned her sometimes
"You guys better keep an eye on my sister got it"
"Yes sir"
Tumblr media
The members seemed confused when (Y/n) showed up with Baji and Chifuyu, Baji just shrugged claiming he wanted (Y/n) under his division. She decided to stay quiet following behind him and the blond m, ignoring the stares of the other members.
Mikey arrived shortly after updating everyone on why they were here and how they were planning on handling the situation. They would probably handle it around the Musashi festival. "Let me hear what everyone thinks "
(Y/n) stormed forwards as Takemichi was kicked, another one bend down to Takemichi "You're Hanagaki aren't you" according to Baji and Chifuyu these two blonds were PahChin and Peh Yan.
"How are you going to pay for the best we lost?"
She pushed Peh away from Takamichi glaring at blond duo "fuck off, I snitched not Takemichi"
"HAH thought you learned your lesson last time"
"...if you don't get out of my face.. I'll kill you"
"The fuck did you say!?"
"...god your dumb and deaf?"
Before his fist could make contact with her face she used his weight against him,  slamming him down on the ground " If anyone has a problem with Takemichi, I'll kick your ass"
Pah grabbed the girl by the collar of her shirt glaring at her "You're fucking dead!" He snapped at her, while she stared at him. Mitsuya stepped in before things could escalate any further. "Don't start anything with the guests! The Kiyomasa incident was nothing but him using Toman's name as he pleased!"
"Hah I don't  understand because I'm dumb"
(Y/n) watched the scene unfold, did he really just insult himself? His friend even agreed with him, guess that's normal? Did guys really go around insulting each other??
"Oi Pah! shut up!"
(Y/n) felt guilty when she heard that the victim of the Moebius incident was one of Pah's friends. She felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned around noticing the lilac haired boy staring at her "Hey it's okay, you were just protecting your friend"
She gave him a small nod before watching Pah confess that he wanted to go avenge his friend. She slipped through the crowd, bowing and apologising to Pah and Mikey "...Meobuis had recently got a new leader" she updated him "I can help you get more information on them, I just need to ask my brother. "
She grinned, holding her hand out towards the blond boy "I can help you learn everything about them, my older brother dealt with them before!"
"The Cerberus…"
Mikey's eyes moved towards (Y/n) spotting the jacket that laid over her shoulders, Shinichiro and his friends talked about some guy nicknames the Cerberus a few times. (Y/n) definitely was someone interesting
Ryuu ' Cerberus' Tsuyoshi never joined any gang, but he didn't mind lending a hand if there was any injustice in gang disputes.
"I'll help you guys fight "
Tumblr media
"Tsuyoshi? Mind if I have a talk with you?"
"Huh? Oh Mitsuya san, sure"
Baji was standing behind the girl protectively,  he had already gotten lectured to make sure that she got home safe. Even if she kept insisting that she would be safe.
"I'll drop (Y/n) off "
"Fine.."
The long haired boy left her with Mitsuya  who gave her a gentle smile nodding towards his motorcycle  "You're an interesting girl (Y/n)"
"How?"
"You walk like a girl and you're voice, hop on we don't want something to happen to you"
She got on his motorcycle hesitantly wrapping her arms around his waist, hiding her face against her back as he sped off "You remind me of my sisters, their brave too"
"You have sisters?"
"Yeah two"
Takashi could feel his cheeks heat up feeling the girl cling onto him, he glanced back at her. He honestly didn't know why he didn't notice sooner that she wasn't a boy, he admired her bravery for standing up for her friends.  "...you shouldn't join the fight with Moebius, you could get hurt "
He stopped looking back at her with a worried look "I understand you can defend yourself, don't get me wrong…"
"Ara ara"
The girl looked to her side spotting Koji with a huge grin, he was leaning on the fence staring at his sister. Ryuu just simple stared at the two with a blank experience
'Shit why were they here!?...If Ryuu and Koji were here then that means Tamotsu was here too!'
Koji snickered watching his sister's expression, she was never caught with a boy alone. She looked adorable being caught with this guy "Who's this (Y/n) ?~"
Ryuu simply glared at the lilac haired boy, were all the boys around his sister all of the sudden?? Especially ones from some wannabe street gang, couldn't she hang normal kids??
Koji let out a whine when a hand slapped his head, pulling him back "Go inside and stop bothering her, you too Ryuu!"
The said male ignored him, continuing to glare at Mitsuya who seemed unbothered by the second oldest Tsuyoshi's glare.
Tamotsu sighed, turning towards his sister and the boy, bowing and apologising before dragging Ryuu inside behind him.
Mitsuya glanced at the girl,  she had her head bowed "Your brothers?" She looked at him with an angry pout “I'm sorry about them…”
She lifted her head when he started laughing, he placed his hand on her head. "Don't think too much about it, they're just looking out for you"  he smiled at her, she looked away from him feeling her cheeks heat up.

October 2022 Book Recommendations
Hey hey hey I read a lot of books this month and found a lot of new favorites and explored different genres and I did in fact begin the Immortals After Dark series which still has me by the neck so all in all a really good reading month.
The Ranger by Monica McCarty. Arthur Campbell is behind enemy lines, spying for Robert the Bruce--which has led him to stay as a guest of the man who murdered his father. Unbeknownst to him, Anna, his enemy's daughter, has been instructed to spy on him turn.
This book was just angsty excellence. Arthur and Anna are instantly attracted to each other, but it just! Cannot! BE!!! And McCarty is completely shameless about putting them together *just because*. Anna is supposed to marry another man to solidify an alliance? It's Arthur's job to escort her to the guy's castle, of course. The moment when people Realize Things and the fallout from that... chef's kiss. This one has a bit less sex than The Chief and The Hawk (though there's still a lot of explicit shit going on--including an unintentional "just the tip" scene, which I love) and that's my only big complaint. I really adore the way these books are basically modern updates of old school medievals, and I'll never be over it.
Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley. Isabella met Mac MacKenzie on the night of her coming out ball, and married him that same evening. But three years into their marriage, she left him with little more than a note, and they've lived separate lives (even if they're still legally married) ever since then. A forger attempting to take Mac's artistic identity has Isabella back in his life, however--and as it turns out that the thief wants a lot more than Mac's name, Mac becomes determined to protect his wife... and reignite their marriage.
This book. Was incredible. One of my favorites of the year, for sure, and everything you could possibly want out of a marriage in trouble book. Mac and Isabella are nursing serious problems--and while he's hardly perfect (he's still very much a scoundrel, and doesn't fully comprehend the issues that drove Isabella to leave him) Mac has been doing the work in the years that she's been gone, which is what I think makes this book so good. Having Isabella in his orbit again makes Mac decide that it's time to get her back, but he's been setting the stage ever since she left him. It feels like he truly values her, truly loves her... and he truly did fuck up, and she was way too young to get married that first go around, and both of them had a lot of emotional work to do. Isabella is a fabulous heroine--sensual and hungry and combative and withdrawn all at once. She's the one who's holding back, and Mac is the one who just worships her. There's some really emotional shit dealt with in this book (tw: pregnancy loss in the past) and it never feels like Jennifer Ashley skims over any of it, though she also keeps the pacing quick. Additionally, there were a couple of moments in which there could have been a dumb misunderstanding, and there never was. It truly feels like Mac and Isabella know each other, and that's what lends an authentic air to the story. Love love love, could not recommend enough.
The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton. Charlotte is the prophesied heir to a league of crafty but nevertheless prim and proper witches, and she never has a hair out of place. But when her hunt for a powerful amulet brings her into the path of rakish pirate Alex O'Reilly, she has no choice but to team up with someone who very much wants to help her let her hair down. As Alex and Charlotte get closer--verrrry much closer--over the course of their quest, she can't escape her responsibilities. Can she?
This one! Is! So good! I loved the first book in the Dangerous Damsels series (which I would personally recommend reading before this one, as it's charming as fuck and a great world primer) but this one blew it out of the water. While Ned and Cecilia were more of a slow burn sexually, Alex and Charlotte... don't waste any time. They're just releasing tension! It has to be done! How else could she possibly focus? But emotionally, they're a slow burn, and I'm trash for that. They rely on each other to stay alive on a perilous adventure, they have sex every night and most days, but oh no, it's not EMOTIONALLY INTIMATE. They both have issues expressing their feelings, and they're both ridiculously endearing. Alex has some liiiiiines and Charlotte is constantly getting him hot and bothered without even realizing it (we do get a "Oh God, she's wearing pants and I'm totally undone) moment. The world remains delightful--all quirky thievery and zany flying house shenanigans. But this one takes the emotions a bit deeper than the first, and I was smiling throughout.
Play by Kylie Scott. Anne has been fucked over by her roommate and left without half the rent or even living room furniture. Fortunately, she has also been descended upon by famous drummer Mal Ericson, whose bandmate recently married Anne's friend. Mal needs a fake girlfriend (for reasons he won't specify) and Anne needs someone to help with the bills--so despite Mal's rather zany, over the top personality, she has no choice but to agree. But living with him may make the situation a lot more complex...
I've been read Stage Dive out of order (read the last book, which features Mal and Anne's wedding, first)--and that actually solidified my belief that romances should be read in order. So I started from the beginning, and despite really wanting to get into book 3, I was determined to read book 2 first, even though I was sure Mal would be too much for me. And at first, he was. Reading between the lines, it's clear that Mal has some sort of hyperactivity-related disorder that I do think Kylie Scott could've addressed, and Anne's entire issue is that Eldest Daughter Syndrome has made her something of a doormat who just wants to give people what they need. But after a somewhat jarring beginning, I was totally charmed by this one, just like I was by Lick and Deep before it. Mal and Anne just get along really well, and I love how much he cares for and advocates for her. She's not a wilting flower, but she is prone to taking the L in order to give people what they want--and Mal speaks up for her and calls out situations where she deserves to be treated better. Inevitably, he does fuck up, and there IS a puppy grovel............................... And I'm a sucker for a puppy grovel. It's not my favorite in the series, but it is very fun (and funny) and while maintaining a lot of heart. Also--it has an excellent car sex scene.
Lead by Kylie Scott. Jimmy Ferris is the lead singer of world-famous band Stage Dive, and he's in trouble. After years of addiction and multiple overdoses, he's alienated his bandmates--especially his brother, David--and is close to collapse. While he's clean post-rehab, he needs a sober living companion... which is why the band hires Lena, a professional, hard-nosed woman who doesn't take any shit from him. But after months of working for and living with Jimmy, Lena realizes that her feelings for him have gone beyond even friendship, and she's determined to move on and find a replacement. But Jimmy? Is never going to let that happen.
This was the last Stage Dive book I had left, and it was my favorite. I highly anticipated it after reading Lick--David was great, but his strung out, horrible older brother who slept with his girlfriend years ago, never really apologized for it, and hit on his new girlfriend before almost dying at a party? GIVE ME THAT. And what makes this work is that a) we're post-rehab, so while Jimmy's addictions are a big issue, he is sober and in recovery for this book and b) Lena is the ideal heroine for him. For all that he'll brood and snark, she throws it right back at him and has him by the balls from day one. But of course, because Jimmy is extremely emotionally withholding, she doesn't realize she does. And it is somewhat of a slow burn. Even after they have objectively great sex, Jimmy literally runs off and won't kiss her on the mouth. But the payoff is soooo good. The emotional connection between them is excellent. And then you get to see them have a nice happy relationship in the next book (which sees Lena knocked up IMMEDIATELY because they're dumbasses). Everyone wins! I loved this series. A little indulgent, very hot, and kind of problematic--that's what I want in contemporary romance.
Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night b Kresley Cole. 1,200 year old werewolf Bowen MacRieve has been in misery and attempting to resurrect his mate, Mariah, ever since her accidental death nearly two centuries ago (never mind that her death was due to her being terrified of his attempts to claim her). His last chance seems to be a prize in the midst of a mystical competition, a key that will turn back time. But there are many other supernatural beings chasing it, among them Mariketa the Awaited, a young witch foretold to have incredible power, who doesn't seem quite capable of harnessing it. The competition throws Mariketa and Bowen in each other's paths, but the oddest thing seem to be that he recognizes her as his mate--something that shouldn't be possible. Deciding that Mariketa is Mariah's reincarnation, Bowen is determined to have her--and Mariketa is just as determined to avoiding being second best to anyone.
Motherfucking shit, I loved this book. I love Bowen and all of his stupid fuckboy antics, of which there are many. I love Mari and her inability to get her shit together. I love that she went to college on a cheerleading scholarship, then dropped out of college. I love that it's heavily implied that Bowen masturbates to her cheerleading videos. I love the incredibly intense magical bondage shifted sex scene, and the way he fucks it up IMMEDIATELY after. I love that so much of this book was two people who seem to not be able to stand each other (when they really just wanna bone) on a magical quest together, and then there's a private island interlude, and then there's a MASSIVE ANGST OBSTACLE, and at one point Bowen goes completely apeshit on some people and then chases a terrified Mari through the woods with blood and gore dripping from his jaws because it's the full moon and that means CLOBBERIN' TIME (sexual). The werewolf lore in this series... is everything to me. There was one thing I found dated (not related to the romance) but otherwise... this was really, really good. I was actually incredibly soft for them at the end. It wasn't just about werewolf fucking, IT WAS REAL FOR ME.
Her Halloween Treat by Tiffany Reisz. Joey just found out that her boyfriend of two years is married, and she's leaving Hawaii to return home to Oregon for a bit of rest and relaxation as her brother plans his wedding. The only problem is that the contractor working on the cabin is Chris, her brother's best friend--who had a thing for her in high school. But maybe it's not a problem, as Chris is offering rebound sex and is a shockingly great lay. Or maybe it IS still a problem, as this may be going from a rebound fling to something real...
It's been a long time since I've read a category romance, but this one is legendary and now... I want to shoot Harlequin Blaze novels into my veins. This was also my first Tiffany Reisz, and I'm now thoroughly charmed. To me, Harlequin categories read like early 2000s heyday romcoms. They're relatively low conflict compared to most books I prefer, the plots are simple, they don't fuck around (except... for sure they fuck around with the fucking). This book is no exception--quick and to the point, but with a lot of heart. The sex in this one is honestly pretty phenomenal, and Reisz is skillful enough to sell the romance emotionally in a limited amount of page time. And despite sounding kind of basic.... Chris FUUUUUUUUCKED. I can't complain.
Dark Needs at Night's Edge by Kresley Cole. Ballerina--and scandalous former burlesque dancer--Neomi is murdered at the height of her triumph in 1926, and spends the next century trapped in the home she loved, watching people who don't see or hear her. Until the vampiric Wroth brothers arrive, trapping their bloodlust-maddened youngest brother, Conrad, in attempt to break through his centuries of madness. The plan is to make Conrad stable enough to help him find his Bride--the one person who will make his heart beat and give him something other than killing to care about. As a ghost, Neomi doesn't make Conrad's heart beat--but he is the only person who can see and speak to her. And heartbeat or not, he quickly begins to want a lot more.
Ugh, this had my heart from beginning to end. Neomi is possibly? My favorite romance heroine of all time. She's fun, she's sexy, and she's angry at what happened to her, and she wants. She wants pretty clothes and things and to enjoy life, she wants everything she was denied (and as a heads up--Neomi's murder is shown on page, and though it's not particularly drawn out, she is stabbed to death by her abusive former fiance) and she really wants Conrad. And yet, they cannot be! Not only because he can't touch her--even if he could, without meeting his Bride, Conrad literally can't get hard. And he's a virgin! A hero who swore a vow of chastity when he joined an order of vampire killing warriors, only to be forcibly turned into a vampire by his brothers, which broke his brain!! This is the second Wroth brothers book I've read, and while I enjoyed Sebastian's, I don't think it fully hammered home the the horror of Nikolai and Murdoch (more Nikolai, but still) forcing vampirism on Sebastian and Conrad. It was an ultimate betrayal of trust, and a lot of Conrad's insanity is due to that loss of identity and betrayal, no matter how good Nikolai's intentions were. The family drama in this book is kind of incredible. The brothers love him so much! They just want their lil incel assassin to get laid and find love! And God, the love story. It's tragic. It's funny. It's incredibly hot. The dirty talk, the actual sex, the agony of keeping secrets and withholding desire. It hurts so good. This series keeps getting better, and I was honestly blown away by how obsessed I was with Conrad and Neomi's love story. From the moment she did a spectral striptease for him to get him to admit that he could see her, to the moment he chopped his own hand off in order to escape his chains and make it work with her.... These two crazy kids can make it work.
The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole. Nikolai Wroth, Estonian warlord, agreed to serve vampire king Kristoff as his general in exchange for eternal life for himself and his brothers. Three centuries later, and Nikolai is a Forbearer, a vampire who eschews blood from the vein and fights the bloodthirsty Horde. That doesn't stop valkyrie femme fatale Myst the Coveted from going head to head with him in an encounter that reveals she is his Bride, and the only woman capable of Blooding him. Waking Nikolai's dead body and fleeing, Myst leaves him a state of sexual frustration and longing for five years before he tracks her down--and he's more than ready to turn the tables on her... Especially when he comes into possession of a chain that ensures he has total control of her body.
As you can probably guess from that summary, this one is dubcon galore! Which makes sense, as this is technically the first book in Immortals After Dark (though it's a novella). Like A Hunger Like No Other, the sexual dominance and aggression is a big theme. The difference here is that while Emma was a shy virgin who was very afraid of Lachlain initially, Myst is a confident, two thousand year old valkyrie who has an edge over Nikolai in experience, both as a warrior and a lover (an issue that is confronted pretty realistically, for a vampire book--Nikolai does feel inadequate at one point, even though he's the ultimate alpha male vampire fuck machine, as any IaD vampire hero should be). Plus... These two are very much tit for tat. With the tits. Is it bad that Nikolai snatches Myst's magical chain (a punishment she was given by the gods, and God I love how truly mythological and lore-like that felt) and makes her come on command? Twice? Yes. Is it bad that he makes her touch herself in front of him? Sure, though she totally decided to suck his dick of her own volition. But to be very fair here, Myst did VERY purposefully Blood Nikolai, knowing that she could get him so aroused that she'd be able to murder him, then basically left him with a painful five year boner because she was mad about attracted to him. So like. Yeah. They both fucked up. And Nikolai does do a great grovel after he gets some therapy. Plus, the sex in this, dubcon and otherwise, is incredibly hot. These two fuck for the first time spontaneously in a field and her sisters find them in the afterglow while he's still inside of her...And Myst's main concern is figuring out how to hop off of him without letting her sisters see how well hung he is. ALL HAIL MYSTY THE VAMPIRE LAYER.
Mating the Huntress by Talia Hibbert. Chastity comes from a long line of werewolf hunters, though she's always been prohibited from hunting herself. When she recognizes the quiet guy visiting the coffee shop she works at as a werewolf, she decides to kill him to prove herself to her relatives. What she doesn't know is that Luke is there for a reason: he's recognized her as his mate, and he's determined to have her.
This novella is decidedly sweeter than most werewolf books I've read, but it's QUITE worth it, and very wolfy. Luke just wants to please Chastity. He doesn't want to claim her aggressively, but he does want to claim her and give everything she wants, even after he realizes she wants to kill him. Fortunately, she also wants to fuck him--and this book is QUITE hot. It's got everything I love about Talia Hibbert contemporaries--humor, heart, and heat. With the added benefit of hot werewolf shenanigans! If you're wondering about whether you'll like paranormal romance, this may be a good place to start.
Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole. The demon Prince Cadeon Woede, otherwise known as Cadeon the Kingmaker, is known for toppling and installing monarchies. But his greatest shame is that he wasn't there when his brother, King Rydstrom, lost his crown. Cade spent the past year stalking his fated mate, the mortal math professor Holly Ashwin, with no intent of ever meeting her--until two things are revealed. A) Holly, unbeknownst to her, isn't as mortal as she seems and b) she's the Vessel, destined to bear a great warrior who (depending on its father) will side with good or evil. The evil side of the Lore wants Holly--and the child she'll be impregnated with. And they offer Cade the sword Rydstrom needs to get his crown back in exchange for her. But as he tricks Holly into traveling to her doom, Cade begins to realize that his connection with her goes beyond fate.
This was a RIDE. A virgin heroine who's meant to be impregnated with a dark or light messiah, on a road trip with a hot demon who's insecure about his intellect and just wants to serve her in ALL THE WAYS?? But he's lying to her the whole time? It's funny! It's angsty! It's reeeeeally hot, especially when Cade and Holly make an agreement to stop every 420 miles so that he can sexually satisfy her (but like... without penetration, right? Because he knows that he'll knock her up with an evil demon baby, riiiiight? He wouldn't stick it in, and she'd never be irresponsible enough to knowingly risk it, riiiiii--). One of my favorite notes of lore from this unabashedly horny series is that when an immortal is transitioning into that immortality, they become hypersensitive and therefore constantly horny. This was a thing with Mariketa in Wicked Deeds, and Holly also suffers from this affliction. Aw, nuts!!! But beyond how hot this book is, it once again really hits the emotion. Kresley is just super talented. I love that Cade feels like he failed Rydstrom, I love that he feels intellectually inferior to Holly and tries to make up for it by reading a lot of books. I love Holly's awakening to not only sex but just... fun and the world? I so enjoy when a heroine lets her hair down and gets drunk and makes the hero jealous by flirting with other guys. And look, Cade does some pretty reprehensible trickery in this, and I'm not entirely sure that he groveled quite enough but.... he did really grovel. And this is Immortals After Dark. It works. I was sold. I'm good with it, and I'm ready to see Rydstrom................ get edged.
Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole. Rydstrom the demon king lost his crown to the deathless Omort centuries ago, leaving his people in peril. Now he's on the brink of getting it back--but he's distracted by a mysterious woman on the side of the road. She turns out to be the evil sorceress Sabine, Queen of Illusions and Omort's sister, who spirits him away to a dungeon in the demon realm. She's his fated queen, but she has no interest in love--rather, she must get him to both marry her and impregnate her with his heir, after which Rydstrom will be dealt with. The two begin a battle of wills--but calm, logical Rydstrom has a dark side neither fully anticipate, and Sabine may not be against it... at all.
THIS WAS. LIT. Listen, I'll put up a couple disclaimers. There are two things in this book, both of which are not big plot points, that I don't think would have been written into it today. Did it keep me from loving the book? No, but it's something to consider. Second: this is a book that is heavy on dubcon, and heavy on dom/sub dynamics. To be it frankly, Rydstrom is a dom who did not realize he was missing that in his sex life until this book, and Sabine is a bratty sub of the first order. She edges him while trying to quite literally steal his seed. He edges her in revenge. They emotionally edge each other by not being able to come to terms with their feelings (mostly her, to be fair to him). This is a book about EDGING. It is extremely hot, it is extremely angsty, it is prime enemies to lovers content--he makes her marginally more human while she encourages his worst instincts. Sabine and Rydstrom are two sides of the same coin--both older siblings with complicated dynamics with their younger siblings, ultimately hinging on a desire to protect them. Both hiding secret desires (hers for a family and love, his to let loose and dominate) and they are both fully able to help one another fulfill those desires... But they need to be able to be honest with each other first. It's actually a pretty deep book on that level. It is also extremely hot and funny. Sabine constantly being like "you don't know what it's like to endure HOURS of aborted orgasms" while Rydstom is like "OH FUCKING DON'T I???"is a highlight of romance novel history. I love watching two stupid people fall in love, especially when one of them is an exasperated man and the other his Sweet Baby Princess Angel (who he does, in fact, call a good girl at one point).
Untouchable by Kresley Cole. Murdoch Wroth was his brother's right hand before being transformed into a vampire--a transformation that ended his desire for sex and his reputation as a rake. He doesn't even want to be Blooded... but he has no choice upon meeting Daniella the Ice Maiden, a Valkyrie whose fey ancestry makes it impossible for her to be touched by anyone who isn't of her mother's people. Murdoch and Dani want each other more than anything; but if they can't touch, how can they spend eternity together?
This was so goooood. It's arguably the softest IAD book I've read, though not at all in a boring way. Murdoch and Dani's connection begins with essentially just a lot of intense sexual desire, but quickly deepens as they get to know each other, and it has a lot of romcom beats. She's desperately unfulfilled and untouched and hilariously horny; he's really annoyed by the fact that after centuries of trying to beat the rake charges, he's now lustful again and very much wanting to serve her every whim. And their conflict is truly excellent. They just want to touch each other, and their... solutions... for being unable to touch are pretty hot. It's less plotty than other IAD books due to its novella length, but I found it a great love story.
The Duke in Question by Amalie Howard. Read my review here.
Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole. Lucia the Huntress is a Valkyrie destined to subdue a cannibalistic god--and her goddess-granted archery skills are only guaranteed if she remains chaste. This becomes an issue when Garreth MacRieve, the Lykae prince, recognizes her as his mate. As Lucia goes on the run--in part to pursue her mission and in part to evade and resist Garreth--her werewolf follows... And their dual destinies will not be denied.
This book... is incredible. It's an amazing love story (with a fuckton of eroticism) that gives you everything you want out of a werewolf story. She's cool, calm, and collected--except for when she's around him. He's a hedonistic, wild animal of a hero... who tames his inner beast (.... somewhat) to respect her boundaries. The sexual tension in this one is INSANE. He gets her off within the first few chapters, and you are off to the races from there. Sex between bars! Sex on a boat! Any kind of sex but penetrative sex, because loopholes--but there's an inevitability to it all, because at the end of the day, Garreth can only deny his animal nature for so long. And I think that's part of the vibe of this book. Lucia is also denying her true self for much of it. It all feels super animalistic and primal because they are acting so civilized on the surface, even pretending to be human among mortals for much of it. Garreth is by far the least beastly werewolf hero I've read so far in this series (though trust and believe, he's an ANIMAL where it counts) and in the end he and Lucia really have to find a way to meet in the middle, to compromise for each other. I think that's why, in many ways, it reads as the most romantic IAD novel I've gone through so far. I mean, there's also a lot of adventuring on the Amazon and having Romancing the Stone/The Mummy vibes while Lothaire, Enemy of Old swoops in like Carmen Sandiego. So overall, an excellent book about love and trauma and sexuality and letting your inner freak out of the cage.
Demon from the Dark by Kresley Cole. Carrow is a party girl witch in trouble--she's been taken hostage by The Order, a collective intent on studying and eradicating immortals like her. She's already lost one friend to their clutches, and has vowed to save that friend's child... which is why she agrees to go to a demon realm to capture Malkolm Slaine, a demon/vampire warrior who the Order wants more than anything. But the animalistic Malkolm immediately recognizes Carrow as his, and she quickly realizes that he's not as bad as he seems--which makes the prospect of turning him over to The Order much harder than she thought it would be.
This one began the Torture Island arc of IAD, which is truly a fascinating, incredibly grim yet somehow entertaining storyline. Carrow is a fun heroine, a party girl trying to settle down and boldly introducing a giant demon man to the pleasures of the secular flesh. There's a huge Tarzan/Jane vibe to her relationship with Malkolm, along with a sizable heap of trauma recovery. Really, Malkolm's memories of being a sex slave as a child are a lot worse than what we experience of The Order directly in this book. But I will say--I know he's a really popular hero, and he is lovely and his romance with Carrow is quite sweet (also--he's a virgin ladies). However, he didn't work for me as much as other heroes in the series have, in part because despite being a bloodthirsty warrior who gives Carrow her enemies' heads... He's actually very sweet. Which is lovely! But he lacked the edge seen in my favorite virgin hero of the series, Conrad Wroth. Conrad felt truly psychologically dangerous and cunning, whereas Malkolm was innocent in ways that extended beyond sex, and that was a bit tough for me. Also, there's a kid in this one. However, I think this will be like, the ideal IAD book for many people who perhaps find the deranged heroes to be a bit much. I just like a deranged hero. Amazing bath scenes, though~
Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid. Canadian Shane Hollander and Russian Ilya Rozanov are hockey players positioned as arch rivals on the ice, and with good reason. They're both rookies at the top of their game. Shane is a golden boy perfectionist with a wickedly competitive streak, whereas Ilya is a seemingly carefree alpha male who's never without a snarky remark that gets under Shane's skin. They're total opposites--and unbeknownst to the world, they hook up off the ice whenever possible. But through years of sneaking around, what began as belligerent sexual tension gives way to real emotion, and the two reach a crossroads about what to do next.
This was so so so good, a fabulous contemporary romance about two guys with a fuckton of chemistry and a lot of issues on both sides. Between Ilya's familial trauma (which he naturally covers by being incredibly charming and seemingly shallow) and Shane's internalized homophobia, there's a lot of drama to be mined. But the book never feels depressing or focus on self loathing. There's angst aplenty, but it's balanced out by Ilya and Shane's connection--the animosity turning into flirting turning into love. They're funny, their chemistry is natural, and you literally just want them to kiss throughout the book. And there's a lot of kissing. And a lot of sex. And it is extremely hot and I was super happy with it. But ugh, casual sex turning into love with REAL FEELINGS? I'm so weak for it. Ilya, the slutty one, being the first to realize that he's doing dumb shit like counting Shane's freckles? PLEASE. One of my favorite reads of the year. I was swooning throughout this one, and I can't wait to read the sequel.
Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole. Immature and reckless Valkyrie Regin the Radiant has a secret: she's been bound in a thousand-year relationship with Aidan the Fierce, a Berserker who recognized her as his when she was younger. The problem? Right after Regin and Aidan slept together, he was murdered--and refuses to be kept from her. Throughout the years, he's been continuously reincarnated, seeking her out no matter what; and every time, after they sleep together and Aidan comes to the forefront, he's killed again. Just when Regin decides to evade his latest incarnation to spare him, she's taken captive by The Order... and the man in charge of interrogation? Declan Chase, who hates immortals more than anything else. And is, unbeknownst to him--the latest incarnation of Aidan.
This was a CONTROVERSIAL one, and I honestly enjoyed the hell out of it. This is not going to be for everyone. Declan does some truly horrible things (though he's more directly responsible for what he does to the other immortals than Regin) and I will admit that I feel like his crimes were hand waved a bit at the end. But he and Regin have a fantastic connection, and the setting and plot is super compelling. He's a fascinating character, a true dark romance hero, and she grows up a lot over the course of the book--which was very much needed, as she was my least favorite valkyrie beforehand. The reality is that this is an edgy romance, and while it's not my favorite IAD book, I'd recommend it to the right people and appreciate bold swings it takes. Plus--tons of setup for Lothaire, and frankly he is HILARIOUS.

The Number One Rule. Chapter 26.
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N has always been seen as “Steve’s rambunctious sister.” However, she grew up, graduated, and moved to London to study abroad for 4 years and get her bachelor's degree. The girl that returns looks nothing like the teenager that left, but don’t worry the attitude is still there and stronger than ever. What’s to come of the two grown adults that used to push each other's buttons, but now have a lot more in common than they’ve ever realized.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Y/N Rogers (Steve’s little sister)
Word Count: 3800+
A/N: Ladies and Gentlemen. This is the last chapter. I know I say it almost every time, but I truly think this is one of my personal favorite top stories. At LEAST in the top 3. Now it is time for me to go through and read it all the way through and revise where I can. I’m so glad you all loved it as much as me and I am happy to say, I am already working on a new series!! And yes, it is a Bucky x Reader. I just can’t seem to stray from them lately. His character is stuck on my brain and I’m not mad. Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you once again for all your love and support with this one! I loved each and every single comment and thought thrown my way:) Also, BONUS, I will probably write a one-shot explaining the Bumble Bee nickname, since I was never able to work it into this... If not that, maybe a prologue... I don’t know we shall see;) With that being said, enjoy this ending and let me know how your heart feels after!!
Chapter Twenty-Six:
A whole year had passed. Today marked the 1 year of Y/N and Bucky finally coming together after all this time of being friends and making it official as two people who loved each other deeply.
To give you a quick update in the time passed…
Steve and Peggy went on a first date after she came back for a second time and made her move to New York permanent. He had been sweating buckets while getting ready and Y/N and Bucky coached him from the couch as he came in and out of his room trying on multiple outfits for the night.
Y/N had suggested taking her to some different places around Manhattan, kind of like the scavengers hunt Bucky did for their first date. But instead of knowing the different places, Peggy really hadn’t known the city at all, so it was more so a tour guide kind of date.
It was a simple and solid plan. However, Steve wasn’t used to the confidence that Peggy tended to give off. Did he admire it and love it? Yes, no doubt. Did it scare him at times, or more so intimidate him? Yes, again.
So after some light teasing from his little sister, she gave him some tips to impress her best friend, as well as, reassured him she was a sweet girl on the inside. Just someone who has lived in a man's world a little too long and has to put up a front of intimidation. Once you get past that, you have a loyal and kind person to bond with.
Needless to say, the date went off without a hitch and the two were now celebrating two strong months of dating.
Becca had finished up college and was already secured in a job as a child psychologist at a new hospital in upstate New York. She was a little further away now, but that didn’t stop her from coming and visiting. It just so happened that her new boyfriend lived down the hall from Y/N. If you know, you know.
His name was Thor and after some light flirting every other time she came to visit Y/N, she asked him on a date which he accepted. They were on the route of 3 months of dating now. He had joined the friend group to an extent and got along great with the whole crew.
Wanda and Vis’s boys were growing up faster than light itself and would be about 6 months soon. After Bucky and Y/N’s last time babysitting, they were recruited a few more times since they did so great with them. They may have been thrown for a whirlwind the first time around, but they were a lot easier the next few date nights.
Nat and Clint had gotten married last month. They were coming back from their belated honeymoon now in Budapest. The wedding was beautiful and everyone being together all at once again, was a joy and it showed just how much the group of friends was growing. Each of them hitting a new and different stage in life.
Back to the present...
Bucky had planned a one year anniversary date for him and Y/N. One that was bound to be unforgettable.
Y/N asked if they could keep it simple with just a picnic in the park since it was going to be cold soon in New York, and she wanted to soak up the last bit of summer that was left.
“Ok, you have everything set for the night?” Steve asked as Bucky buttoned the cuff to his button up.
“I hope so. I go to pick up Y/N in 10 minutes,” Bucky sighed in nervousness.
“Hey, don’t worry about it man. You know it’ll all work out how it’s supposed to,” Steve chuckled, coming over and patting his friends shoulder in reassurance. “Plus, you had Peggy and I help you plan this out. No way it could go wrong with our expertise.”
“You say that, but watch me slip up somewhere,” Bucky mumbled, straightening his clothes.
“You’re putting nerves where they aren’t needed. Stop thinking worst case scenario,” Steve groaned, walking out the bedroom door with Bucky behind. “What would Y/N say about that?”
“That it’s premature and won’t do me any good to think negatively,” he muttered, knowing the exact words to come from the optimist.
“Exactly. So stop stressing and go with the flow of things. Nothing good is going to come out of you waiting for the worst thing to happen tonight,” Steve shook his head.
“It’s supposed to be a night to remember. Not a night to dread,” Peggy interrupted as she came to Steve’s side with a little note in hand she saw on the counter in a spot it may have been easily lost. “Here, you may want this though if you do want it to go well.”
“Right, thanks,” Bucky nodded quickly, taking the item.
“You guys will meet us there right? Everyone else ready too?” Bucky asked.
“Everyone else is ready. You’ll be fine Buck,” Steve laughed again. “You sound like me the night I took this gal out.”
“Is that so?” Peggy smirked, leaning more into Steve’s side as he wrapped an arm around her.
“Yeah, he’s a little worse than I was, but he’s doing something a little bigger than a simple date,” Steve winked to Bucky. The brunette sent him an eyeroll.
Peggy looked down at her watch and gasped. “You need to get going, Bucky. She’ll be expecting you any minute,” Peggy moved to push him out the door with a bouquet of flowers in her hand to give him.
_______________
Bucky had made it to Y/N’s apartment in perfect timing, but found himself faltering at the door. His whole body was made up of nerves at that moment. He couldn’t seem to shake them no matter what he told himself.
Lucky for him, all it took was Y/N opening the door and sending him that sweet smile accented with one of her simple little dresses, that made those nerves dissipate.
Tumblr media
“You look great,” he said with a lovestruck school boy and sappy smile.
“Thanks B,” she blushed, scrunching her shoulders in a bashful way. “Here, come in for a second before we leave,” she motioned him in as he followed. “I need to put on a pair of earrings and I’ll be set.” She stood on her toes giving him a gentle kiss to the lips.
Before she could walk off, he put the flowers between them and smiled.
“For you as always,” he winked.
“And everytime, it makes me happier and happier,” she winked back, giving him a bonus kiss. “I actually bought a new vase since I’m lucky enough to get gifted with them everytime we go on a date. Want to put those in it?” she asked as she started walking to her bathroom.
“Hard not to give a pretty girl flowers every chance you get,” he noted, going into the kitchen where the new vase sat. “That plus, I know you like the greenery.”
“It makes me very happy,” she smiled, coming back in with her hands working to put the last pair of earrings on. “Ok, I’m all ready handsome. Shall we?”
“I would love nothing more,” he smiled back offering his arm.
“I like this little routine we have,” she giggled as they walked to the door.
“I can agree,” he nodded, pressing his lips to her temple before they left the building.

They started off with a quick stop to Winnie’s shop, as Bucky said he had a gift there for them to pick up.
Winnie was all dressed up and Bucky’s dad and Becca were also there.
“Well, you guys look all spiffy,” Y/N noted, walking in the doors where the group was patiently waiting for the couple. Becca and Winnie in dresses and Bucky’s dad, George, in a nice button up like his son. “You're not by chance celebrating an anniversary like us, are you?” Y/N teased still locked into Bucky’s arm.
“We can celebrate yours a little with you too, can’t we?” Winnie asked, going in for a hug.
“The more the merrier,” Y/N replied cheerfully.
“No, no. We wouldn’t intrude on your anniversary date,” Becca nodded off. “However, we did want to give you guys a gift before we go off to dinner. We’re meeting Thor to eat soon.”
“Oh, I see. Boyfriend’s meeting the parents?”
“We’ve already met him and we enjoy him,” Winnie waved off. “Plus, we have Bucky and yours sign of approval, so that goes a long way too.”
“These are the facts,” Bucky agreed. “Uh, Mom, we do have to go to the next stop I have planned though, so…” Bucky said with a raise of his eyebrow in a hinting manner.
“Right, right! I won’t keep you long I promise!” Winnie rushed to the counter where a book and a picnic basket was sitting. “Ok, here you go, but don’t open that book until after dinner,” she warned Y/N as she handed it off to Bucky for safe keeping. “It has another little gift in it I don’t want to spoil.”
“In that case, I’ll let Bucky hold onto it then. You know I can’t help opening a book if it’s sitting right in front of me,” Y/N chuckled. The rest of the crew laughed with her.
“Ok, Ma, Dad, Sis,” Bucky waved off redirecting the two to the door. “We’ll see you guys later.”
“Yeah, later!” Becca said with an odd tone. One that showed she knew something, but Y/N didn’t know what.
______________
They made it to the park where Bucky had the whole nine-yards of a pinterest perfect picnic planned. His mom had packed a light meal, while the rest of the basket held a blanket, wine glasses, and other little decorations to make the set up special.
“Look at you being oh so the romantic,” Y/N noted once they had set everything out. “This is impressive.”
“I would say I did it all, but Becca helped with the decorations aspect of it,” Bucky chuckled as he set up some of the food.
The two sat and ate for a little, watching the motions of the park play in front of them as they talked about their day and any other thoughts that came to mind. They were facing straight west, so the sun would be setting right in front of them when the time came. And it was coming soon as they finished up their meal.
“Ok, present time,” Y/N noted, turning to her purse and pulling out something from it. The gift was wrapped in a little brown wrapping paper with a twine string around it. “Open mine first because I can’t wait to see your reaction.”
Bucky chuckled at her childlike excitement and took the present as he sat up from where he was laying on his side. Carefully not to disrupt her precise wrapping, he undid the bow and peeled away the brown wrap around the box. Taking off the lid, inside sat two little slips of paper that looked like tickets.
He quirked an eyebrow confused at what they could be, and when he turned them over and looked closer, he saw they were plane tickets.
“Two tickets to… Rome?” Bucky gasped. “Y/N-”
“I wanted to show you everything I got to experience. Italy, Verona, Venice, and all,” she smiled softly, leaning closer to him. Her eyes never broke away from his face.
“Y/N, this is…” He smiled down at the paper before bringing his eyes up slowly to meet hers. “I would love nothing more than to experience that all through your eyes.”
Y/N blushed hard and the two leaned forward in sync to kiss.
“I’m glad you like it. But I want you to see it in your own way, I’m just happy to be your tour guide,” she smiled harder. Their noses were practically still touching.
“Either way, it’ll be an experience I’ll be counting down for,” he said, leaning in for one more kiss.
When he pulled back he noticed the sun was settling down with the perfect glow. It was now or never…
“Ok, I guess it’s my turn for the gifts,” he said, taking in a deep breath. “It’s actually in the book.” He turned around grabbing the book his mother had handed off to him earlier, and carefully opened the cover. “This one’s long overdue, but it’s one that I’m starting to realize may have been meant for this specific time in our lives anyway.”
Handing over an old letter, she noticed it had changed colors from small stains and wear of when it was originally written. She was confused some by the details of the packaging, but when she saw it was addressed to her on the front, she picked up on what it was.
The address and her name was that of her childhood home, but what gave away it’s age, was the return address of where Bucky was stationed all those years back when he was in the army.
“Buck,” she said softly.
“I wrote it way back when. Shortly after I realized that you were someone I…” He paused trying to find his wording. “Well, when I realized you were the kind of person I would want to spend the rest of my life with.”
Y/N looked up from the letter she was holding ever so delicately in her hand. Scared she would damage the antique writing.
“You don’t have to read it now, but to sum it up, I never sent it because I knew, at least I thought I knew,” he chuckled under his breath looking down at it. “I could never deserve someone like you. You were always so kind and wise when I was going through my mess of life overseas. You had things of your own that you were working through, and yet you put it aside for me when I felt like I was alone and drowning in a foreign home.”
He closed his eyes, picturing all the times he wanted to give up. When he wanted to call it quits after the things he saw, the things he did. It killed him on the inside. Mentally, emotionally, he didn’t hold strong like he thought he would be able to.
“The only thing that kept me sane over there and gave me hope, was receiving letters from you. I know I teased you to begin with, but as time went on, your words, your advice, and your love that you somehow were able to ship overseas to me with just ink on a paper, kept me alive. Kept me from giving up.”
He looked up finally and saw tears in Y/N’s eyes. The look on her face was heartbreaking yet so loving all at once. It showed how she hated hearing just how lost Bucky was, but also showed just how grateful he was there. He was there now and it was partially because of their letters to each other. More than she could ever imagine though.
She believed she may have played a role, but it was Bucky himself that held strong. He was the one who pushed through in those hardships and made the effort to keep going on. Not her. But to him, she was the angel on his shoulder keeping him from sinking in times where the waves were just too strong to push back on.
“I wrote out all my feeling and thoughts in that letter. I think it’s like five pages,” he said in a single laugh. “But I never sent it.”
“Why?” was all she breathed out and he moved his hand to wipe the stray tear off her cheek. His hand staying there and running over the bone it had landed on. She leaned into the touch like it would be her last time feeling it.
“I didn’t deserve you. Hell, I’m still not sure I do, but I’m going to make damn sure that I spend every waking hour of my life, every minute, doing my best to get there.”
There was a pause as she took his hand and moved closer to him, their foreheads pressed to the other.
“Bucky you deserve everything and more in this world,” she said softly. “Don’t ever think you should have anything less than that.”
“I know, doll. And it’s because of you I realize I can strive for it all,” he sighed, breathing in her presence.
They stayed like that for a while. Taking in the moment. Taking in the air. Taking in the wholesome and doting atmosphere.
It wasn’t until the lights started to get low, Bucky realized he would run out of time for his next gift soon.
“Y/N, I have one more thing to give you,” Bucky sighed, nervously pulling back and grabbing the book again. “Now, I know this is a cheesy way to do this, but I couldn’t think of a better way,” he chuckled lightly.
He grabbed her hand and helped her stand. The sun now on the horizon giving the perfect golden shine to everything around them.
When she stood with him, he brought the book in between them.
“Ok, open it carefully to page 214,” he nodded, handing her the book.
She sent him a confused look, but followed the directions anyway. Like asked, she gently flipped the books from the beginning before she reached said number. Just as she pulled back page 213, right in the middle of the book, the pages stopped lifting and inside was a little cut out square that held a small ring. One with a beautiful white shining stone in the middle, encrusted by a gold intricate design.
“Oh, my-” she didn’t even finish the sentence as she looked down a the ring. Her grip on the book tightening as her other hand came up to cover her mouth.
Bucky let out a small nervous chuckle at the reaction before slowly taking out the ring and bending to one knee. The book still in her hand, she gasped again watching Bucky move down.
“Y/N Josephine Rogers,” he started with the brightest smile on his face. “I would be nothing but forever grateful if you allowed a guy like me, to have you as my wife.”
She didn’t answer right away as she was clearly in awe and still processing the last 20 seconds of what just happened. The only thing breaking her out of her shock, was the sound of Bucky laughing again.
“Is that a yes, or am I indeed just making a fool of myself?” he said with a scrunch of his nose.
“No! Oh, my God, yes! Yes, yes, yes! A thousand times yes Bucky!” she jumped up and down before wrapping her arms around his neck and tackling him to the ground.
He let out an, ‘oof’ sound as he caught them from the fall and held tightly to the ring not to lose it. He was now on his back and she was laying on top of him giggling and squeezing him in excitement.
“Ok, good. I was worried I might have read the signals you were giving me wrong,” he joked.
“You’re a dork,” she laughed, pulling and looking at him lovingly before going in for the kiss of all kisses.
They were quickly pulled away from it when cheers and whistles started going off around them.
Y/N looked up from where they were laying on top of the other and noticed herds of people they knew coming out from random parts of the park smiling and whooping in elation.
“Is that-?” she started, once again taken aback.
“Everyone? Yeah. They were kinda in on it,” Bucky chuckled. “Hey, did you get that last part?” he shouted toward Nat who was coming around a tree with Clint and a professional camera in hand.
“Oh, it was the best picture of them all I’m pretty sure,” she smirked.
“You little stinker,” Y/N scoffed, pushing off of him to sit up more. “How in the world did you pull this all together?”
Wanda, Vis, and the twins were there. Steve had his arm around Peggy with Sam next to them and Sarah next to Steve. Winnie, George, Becca, and Thor were all there too smiling and laughing. Everyone was there. The whole crew was apart of the moment.
“It was easy. I told them I was asking the girl of my dreams to marry me, and they asked when and where. Not much convincing on my part,” he answered, offering her his hand as they stood back up.
“You guys,” Y/N gushed, wrapping her arms around Bucky’s waist, which he gladly wrapped his arm around her. “This is too sweet.”
“Nothing sweeter than you giving Bucky a run for his money with that delayed answer,” Sam teased.
“Back off, punk,” Bucky rolled his eyes, pulling her closer to him as if any second she’d change her mind.
“I will say, he did catch me off guard,” Y/N laughed in response.
“Oh, my sweet girl is getting married! And to the sweetest boy a mom can hope for,” Sarah interrupted, instantly running to her daughter and almost tackling her like she had Bucky.
“Mom!” Y/N laughed, catching her balance.
The next 15 minutes went on like that as the sun set behind them, giving off the final glows of the evening.
Sarah and Winnie blubbering on about how their little boy and little girl were going to be husband and wife. Then of course going on and on in excitement for the wedding details of it all. At that point they pushed them off for George and Becca to handle as they talked with everyone else.
Wanda and Vis saying how Billy and Tommy would be glad to be a part of the wedding if they needed them to. Nat gave Y/N little details and advice with planning the party and also offering to lend a hand where it was needed since she just got done with her own.
Then Steve and Peggy also congratulate them and express their excitement for all that was to come for the couple, and all the fun double dates they would/ already had been taking apart in.
Once it got dark, Steve announced to the crew the little celebration they had set up at Roger's home for an after party of the engagement. Everyone agreed they would meet there.
So as Y/N and Bucky grabbed their things and started walking to the car, Y/N stopped him as he was about to close the car door for her.
“Hey,” she turned where she was standing on the sidewalk. Bucky just inches from her.
“Hey,” he responded with a goofy grin.
“I love you so so much. You know that right?”
“I know Y/N. And I love you so so much too, doll.”
Thank you so much for reading!! Keep an eye out for a possible one-shot/ prologue of this story;)

Amoreena | Chapter Eight
Tumblr media
Chapter Eight
main summary: Heaven is a real place and it's located exactly 14.6 miles away from the FBI, Quantico Headquarters. Off behind a small park, under a fantastical willow tree surrounded by wildflowers, in every colour young minds can imagine.
Don't forget, heaven also comes with angels.
Chapter Warnings: fluffiest fluff ever, jealous amoreena, jealous spencer, the LaMontagne family is in this too !!
word count: 3.8K
from the beginning <3
He went to work with Y/N on Tuesday to fill out all the paperwork and officially become an employee at the D.C Public Library. He signed a contract, he was switched over to a different government healthcare, answering a million calls and emails all morning, he was officially not an FBI agent.
They had lunch together in the park, buying some sandwiches and walking across the street to a picnic table to talk about their days while they ate. He liked her co-workers, they all were shocked to find out she was “married” to him after being single the whole time she’s worked there.
They had plans to go get Amoreena from school a few minutes early, before heading to meet his mother, not telling her about the plans unless Diana had a bad day last minute and couldn’t see them. So far, according to the nurses, she was lucid and having a great day waiting for them.
“So about yesterday morning,” Y/N changed the subject, biting her lip like she was avoiding this.
“What about it?”
“Amoreena really wants us to have a wedding, I was thinking we could go up to New York for fathers day and have another fake wedding?” Y/N hypothesized her plan, hoping for Spencer’s approval.
He couldn’t help but smile, about to answer when he got an email on his phone. “I’d love to do that, it would be nice to go on a vacation with just as the three of us.”
“You can check that,” she said, noticing he looked at his phone as it buzzed.
It was an email. Not from anyone he knew, it wasn’t about work or healthcare, it wasn’t his mom or Penelope sending him funny things from the internet…
No, it was from Taylor Swift. He tried his best to calm his facial reactions and micro-expressions so she’d think it was just something work-related. An emailed contract, updated health forms, nothing too serious.
To: Spencer Reid From: Taylor Swift Subject: Amoreena
Hey Spencer!
Portia reached out and said that your wife and daughter are huge fans and you were interested in some summer tickets in Virginia… I was thinking if you guys ever found yourself in Rhode Island you’d all want to come to my place, my doors always open for friends 💛 Love Taylor xx
“What?” Y/n asked, trying to read over his shoulder as he turned the phone away.
“It’s a surprise,” he said, locking his phone and putting it in his pocket to reply to her later. “Have you ever thought about a beach wedding? Rhode Island is pretty nice in June.”
She tilted her head as she bit back a smile, wondering what he was planning, “Amoreena will have us reenact the little mermaid 2 instead of Enchanted then, just fyi, but yeah that sounds fun, we should get a beach house on Airbnb for the weekend.”
“Okay, let me handle it all, you don’t need to plan a single thing, just show up with a dress?” Spencer offered, knowing how scared weddings made her now.
She kissed his cheek softly, resting her chin on his shoulder as she leaned over on him, “nothing fancy or crazy okay?”
“Define crazy?” He teased her… she really had no idea what was coming.
To: Taylor Swift From: Spencer Reid Subject: RE: Amoreena
Thank you so much for the quick response and generous offer, we were thinking of having a small elopement in Rhode Island with just the three of us over Father’s Day weekend if that works for you? Seven is the song we danced to at our intimate personal wedding, however, Amoreena’s pretty sad she didn’t get to witness it, that’s why we’re having another one with her. (And hopefully you!) Thank you for making my girls so happy over all the years that I didn’t know them yet, you’re probably their favourite person in the world, even more so than me! It would mean everything to them to meet you or see you in any way, you’re incredibly kind for this.
Thanks again, Spencer Reid x
He tried his best to be as calm and nice as possible in his response, still managing to rant a little even in text format. It was just how he communicated, either not at all or all at once. He was so excited for Y/N and Amoreena.
“So you said your mom has a scrapbook,” Y/N changed the subject after Spencer spent 5 minutes in silence, turned away from her as he answered an email.
“She does, she’s going to show you a lot of photos of me today,” he smiled at the fact she remembered.
“I know you want to tell her about Amoreena alone before we come in, so I made her something for her scrapbook, it’s back on my desk drying,” Y/N was so precious as she got excited, that same giddiness he see’s in Amoreena bursting through her.
“Okay, let’s go see it,” he put his phone in his pocket and followed her back across the street towards the library.
On some beautiful floral scrapbook paper, Y/N glued an array of photos of Amoreena from the beginning all the way to the museum trip last week.
A photo of her first round of IVF, dated February 19th, 2013. Exactly 1 month after he donated, she must have chosen his sample as soon as it entered the system, even a photo of the sample jar reading “sample 2319”, A photo of her crying in the garden with her grandma when she found it she was pregnant, wrapped in a big coat and surrounded by snow. Her pregnancy announcement being a baby sock on a stuffed toy Sully from Monsters Inc, "new door opening November 2013!" Amoreena has been surrounded by references to books and movies since the beginning.
There was a photo from the moment Amoreena was born, crying and brand-new, resting on Y/N’s chest as she sobbed, more beautiful than he’s ever seen her before, completely in love with the child she made.
Amoreena Margery Y/L/N - November 13th, 2013, 9:53 pm 7lbs 12oz, 21 inches of perfection
“Her middle name is Margery?”
“Yeah,” she smiled back at his ever glowing face, wondering why it was so important to him. “Like Margery Kempe, my grandma’s favourite.”
“She’s my mom’s favourite too,” Spencer couldn’t help but laugh, it was such a strange turn of events. He saw so much of his mother in Amoreena just for her to have a middle name related to her.
Y/N couldn’t believe it, “I’m so excited to meet her!”
“I just hope she’s okay today, truly,” Spencer worried. “She is my best friend and a great mother, don’t get me wrong. But some of the things she did to me on her bad days were scary, and I never want Amoreena to experience that.”
Y/N pulled him into a hug, “it’s hereditary isn’t it?” He nodded against her shoulder as she tried to soothe all the impending anxiety out of his body. “I’m not going anywhere, she won't have to raise herself and care for you, that’ll never happen to her.”
She guessed, and she was right. Reading his mind like she’s already been in there and watched all his trauma, she knew all the right words and how exactly to push his feelings away. She was sunshine clearing his grey skies once more, about to cause a drought so he’d no longer rain on his own parade. Marching beside him, hand in hand into the future.
—
They waited at the gate of Amoreena’s school, none of the other parents were waiting yet, giving Y/N a chance to show Spencer around the yard and tell him about her school. “She’s in senior kindergarten, she has a November birthday so I opted to send her in when she was 6 instead of 5, giving me an extra year of home pre-school.”
“That’s why she’s so smart, not my genes,” Spencer smiled, walking around the edge of the gate with her hand still in his.
“They want her to jump right into grade 5 next year, I said no, she deserves a childhood with children she doesn’t have to compete with or see her as a threat,” Y/N voice was stern even in the recounting like she knew from experience. “Because she’ll be 8 in November she’s going into grade 2 instead, then she’ll be in the same age range and mental level, but all her friends she knows in grade 1 will be in the same recess yard as her.”
“I went from kindergarten to grade 4, then I jumped to grade 6 when I was 9 and I graduated high school at 13, it was terrible,” Spencer agreed, not knowing if he had a place in the decision but wanting her to know he agreed with it.
“Let’s go inside and get her,” Y/N smiled at him, understanding his meaning perfectly and dragging him into the school.
“Hello miss Ludlough,” Y/N beamed as she entered the main office with her arm tucked under Spencers, showing him off slightly.
“Y/N, good afternoon! Do you need me to call that little angel down early?” The secretary was a lovely older woman, wrinkled and happy as she smiled back.
“No, I just need to get some paperwork to put her dad in the files?” Y/N surprised Spencer with that and he almost stopped breathing.
“Really?” He whispered, capturing her attention as her eyes twinkled up at him.
“I’d like you on her emergency contacts, if they can’t get ahold of me I’d like you to be with her,” Y/N confirmed, patting his shoulder softly as Miss Ludlough handed her a few forms.
Spencer signed everywhere he needed to, handing them his licence to be photocopied into her file for proof when he picked her up in the future. He was glad to see there was a system, that they cared for his little girl and she wasn’t going to be going home with anyone who wasn’t in that file. And if she did he had no problem hunting them down and getting her back in whatever way he had to…
He shook the thought out of his head as it arises, reminding himself that that isn’t who he is now and she would be fine. They lived in a happy world where bad things didn’t happen.
Y/N’s hand rubbing his lower back helped, he stood straight again and pushed the papers over the desk, smiling as he officially became her father on 3 different sheets of paper. That was as real as it could get.
“Spence?” He heard an all to familiar voice from behind him.
Turning to see JJ and Will smiling with wide arms, waiting for his embrace. “What are you doing here?” She asked him, voice high as she was clearly shocked.
He walked into her arms and held her quickly, “I’m here with my wife,” breaking the news to her in the most casual way possible. “Picking up our kid.”
“Y/N?” Will noticed her then, “holy shit, you’re the wife?”
She nodded with a smile, hugging will quickly like she has known him for years, “how are you, cowboy?”
Spencer and JJ looked at each other incredibly confused, JJ clearly didn’t know her so how did Will?
“Will and I have been on what, 6 school trips together? Michael and Amoreena are buddies,” Y/N explained with a soft smile, “I knew Henry and Michaels's names sounded familiar…”
“Nini thinks I’m a cowboy,” Will laughed lightly, smiling at Y/N the way he did at JJ and something in Spencer almost snapped thinking about Will being the one person between him and the girl he liked, once again.
Only this time she was his wife and not the cute media liaison who had no interest in him until he came out of prison.
“She was very upset when she found out that Will was already married, she wanted us to be Woody and Jessie from toy story,” Y/N had no problem ranting about how their kids got along and how good of friends they had become over the last 2 years of school trips.
Y/N noticed the anxiety in Spencer’s eyes as he pulled away from JJ and made sure no one was touching him, “luckily, our little girl’s got the best daddy in the whole world now and all her dreams came true.”
“She sure does,” JJ agreed, “Hey, I gave your mom all those books you gave me for the boys, when you were away, so she had something to keep remembering you with, you should give them to Amoreena.”
“I will, we’re going to see her tonight,” he was able to push past the feelings and enjoy the moment of his friends meeting his wife, even if the title was just pretend.
“I’m so excited,” Y/N shook her hands the same way Amoreena did, stepping into Spencer's space and wrapping her arm around him. “Can we pick her up from the room Miss Ludlough?”
“Sure thing, do you want me to call down and say Mikey’s parents are here too?”
“Yes, please,” JJ smiled over the counter.
With the four of them walking down the hall together to get their kids, Spencer felt like he was sleepwalking. Too many emotions were running through his veins to feel real, but then Y/N took his hand in hers and rested her cheek against his arm as they walked and he was fine.
She tugged on his arm and waited in the hallway while JJ and Will entered the classroom first, “what’s wrong, she’ll know you’re upset?”
He sighs, shaking the stupidity out of his mind. “I had a huge crush on JJ before they got pregnant with Henry, and when I came back from prison she told me she had always loved me and it got weird for a bit and I’m still kinda mad when I see Will bond with the people I love.”
“I was wondering when you’d get possessive,” she teased him, “I’m yours and I wouldn’t have your ring on if I wasn’t, no matter how another man looks at me, I only love you.”
“I’m sorry, I know.”
“It’s okay, you’re not used to this are you?” She saw right through it. “Am I your first real girlfriend?”
“Kinda, Maeve and I never even really met until she was kidnapped,” he admits and it sounds so childish in his mind.
“Okay we’ll talk about this later cause that sounds like a good story I should know,” she tried to smile, standing on her tiptoes to peck his lips softly before smiling more. “Let’s go get your kid?”
“Let's,” his smile returned.
They turned the corner into the vibrant room, Amoreena was talking to Will when she noticed Spencer at the door, running towards him and almost pushing Will over to do so, “Dad!”
He picked her up and snuggled right into the crook of her little neck, giving her the biggest hug he’s ever given and not realizing just how much he missed her until she was back in his arms again. His baby, the littlest life he’s ever held this close to his heart.
When he put her down he noticed all the women’s eyes were on him, hands over their hearts at the pure display of affection between father and daughter. They all saw him as her dad, they had no reason not to, giving him all the attention he’s never received before.
“What are you doing here?” Her tiny voice asked as she beamed at him with wonder.
He kneeled in front of her to get on her eye level when Michael came running over, “Hi uncle Spencer!” He tackled him into a hug.
“Uncle Spencer?” Amoreena’s brow furrowed as she scowled at the boy taking her dad’s attention, she pulled Michael back by his shirt. “That’s my dad!”
“Amoreena, honey,” Spencer tried not to laugh, she was definitely his kid, “Michels mom, JJ, is my best friend from work and I’m his older brother Henry’s godfather, they’re your cousins.”
She looked at him like he was insane, “what’s a godfather?”
“If anything bad happens to his mommy or daddy and they can’t take care of them, they’ll come live with us,” it was the simplest answer, “I’m not their father, I’m yours.”
She nodded and hugged him again, sticking her tongue out at Michael in the process, “why are you here?” She repeated the question.
Y/N was standing over him with a hand on his shoulder then, “we’re taking you to meet your other grandma.”
Amoreena started to shake with excitement, moving her hands and grinding her teeth as she smiles, shrieking with excitement, “I have another grandma!?”
JJ was watching from the corner of the room, secretly filming it on her phone for the rest of the team to see Spencer with his baby. A sight many of them never thought they’d ever see as he slowly lost hope, losing himself somewhere along the way and no longer wanting to accept their help. This was a big moment for the team too, their little brother was finally happy.
—
In the car, Spencer sat with Amoreena in the back seat so he could tell her everything about her new grandma. Or as Amoreena wanted to call her, Princess Diana, “I can’t believe you’re actually royalty!”
They all laugh at how her fantastic little brain works, “you can’t tell anyone that Princess Diana is in DC okay? It’s a government secret!” Y/N teased from the driver's seat.
“I’m like Princess Mia!” She screamed at the top of her lungs and Spencer was astounded she could be that loud.
“Okay, okay, not that loud! we can't scare any of the people who live here. They like it to be calm and quiet so the patients can be happy,” Y/N settled her down, “Dad is going to go in and tell grandma all about us for a little while and then we’ll go meet her okay? He wants to make sure she’s happy today before we go in.”
With that, they were pulling into his mother's care facility and he felt like he was going to be sick with excitement. He used to visit his mother with the fear of rage and disappointment in her eyes, he was too proud to let his anxiety take that from him today.
He kissed her forehead before getting out, Y/N handed him the scrapbook pages through the window and he leaned inside to give her a kiss too. Receiving a disgusted groan from Amoreena, he pulled away and walked into the building while they found a place to park.
She was waiting for him in the garden, sitting at a picnic table with her scrapbook and gifts for Amoreena. “Spencer!”
“Hey mom,” he smiled as he hugged her, “how are you feeling?”
“Fantastic, where is this family you made?” She was so ready to meet them, truly there inside her mind and willing to learn more about this life he was making.
“Sit down first,” he said softly, taking a seat beside her at the table and placing the scrapbook page on the table. “This is my Amoreena.”
Her fingers glided over the words, “Margery,” she repeated her middle name with a smile. “She has a sperm donor for a father?”
“I’m a sperm donor, mom,” he smiled softly as he broke the news.
She turned to him with shock, “she’s yours?”
“We think so, so that’s what we’re telling people, she’s mine regardless.”
Diana wrapped him up in another hug, “I’m so happy for you Spencer. You always deserved a perfect family, I’m sorry I couldn’t do that for you. I hope your dreams come true with her.”
Just like that Amoreena and Y/N were rounding the corner and walking over towards their table. She had a huge smile on her face and a card in her hand, walking right up to Diana and handing it to her.
“Hi, grandma, I’m Amoreena,” she introduced herself politely before stretching her arms out for a hug.
Diana wrapped her up in the softest little hug, trying not to cry in front of her brand new granddaughter, which was fine because Spencer was the one crying. Turning away from them so Amoreena wouldn’t see as Y/N patted his arm with a smile.
They were fast friends, Y/N and Diana bonding over Margery Kempe and while Amoreena opened the two gifts Diana got for her, a simple colouring book and Spencer's original copy of Matilda from when he was a child. She sat down in the grass and read it while they all caught up, lost in her own little world.
It was the most perfect afternoon, just him and his family, happier than he’s ever dreamed he could be.
—
He checked his phone one last time before bed, Y/N was sitting against the headboard reading a book and so deep in the story, he knew she wouldn’t be able to read over his shoulder.
Scrolling through everything from the day to see that yes, there was a response from Taylor Swift. It felt insane, but he opened it and started to read her plans.
Spencer!! You’re so sweet, I’m sure you make them incredibly happy! I’d love to have you stay in the guest house here, and I’m ordained if you need someone to make it real and official ♥︎ let me know what I can do, I’d love to help in any way to make some fairytale dreams come true! Taylor xx
Smiling like an idiot, he closed his phone. He’d reply tomorrow, till then he was going to snuggle into his wife and appreciate their time together.
She lifted an arm to let him lay against her chest, “today she woke up and decided to be an explorer, the little girl with the wildest imagination stormed out of her home and towards the unknown part of her land. It was her destiny to travel across the bridge and unite the people beyond the field, towards the pond that was swallowed by willow trees,” Y/N read the grandmother's thoughts from the page.
“With her wooden sword, she sliced and diced on the ivy that surrounded the gate. Freeing the hinges and allowing the entrance to swing open, unlocking a new area of the world for her mind to wander.
“For what the regular human eye saw, Amoreena saw it times a million. Every colour and then some, new colours appearing in the morning glow as she stared at the dew on the leaves she just chopped through. She saw the world in a way that made everything exciting, there was never a bad thing, only good things with interesting quirks.
“She passed every mushroom and toadstool, every strange-looking tree and human-shaped moss ball, greeting them with a good morning as she strolled through the once-forbidden forest. Her adventure only beginning, the objective not yet known.”
“Your grandma could see the future,” Spencer whispered as she turned the page, “that’s our wonderful little girl’s mind in words.”
Y/N kissed the top of his head, “our wonderful little girl.” She repeated the words, loving the way they sounded on his tongue as much as he loved how she said it.

Luke “I’m here to rescue you!” :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Skywalker rescuing Din and others with rad Jedi powers and Din “I’m so tired, please let me rest” Djarin and his “Are you a Jedi” is like. The best.
Luke used to being recognized pretty much everywhere he goes and this Mandalorian who has no clue is so great, he loves it?
And then the however long after taking Grogu as his student Luke ends up chasing Din. At some point there’s another rescue that’s marginally less dramatic than the one on Gideon’s cruiser.
Din just stares at Luke before he offers a quiet thanks and trudges off because ow and tired and so, so tired and his job’s not finished yet, and did he mention the tired part? Because so very tired.
Luke is like ??? but gamely follows along because Grogu is miserable, inconsolable  -
“What did you say?”
Luke blinks at the way the Mandalorian whips around, hand dropping to the blaster at his hip as he strides toward him and has to run the last thing he said back in his mind and oh, of course.
Cocks his head, because this Mandalorian, exhausted, hurting, and covered in...well, Luke’s not sure but there’s a very large creature behind them that was mostly dead before Luke had to step in at the last minute to save said Mandalorian, and anyway.
After all that and having gotten a glimpse of what Luke’s capable of on Gideon’s cruiser, he looks like he’s figuring out the best way to kill Luke and it’s kind of great?
(Leia would have conniptions if she could hear that part and would also kill him, which is why Luke is never, ever going to tell her. Ever.)
“He misses you,” Luke says, keeps eye contact with Din because the Force and all even with the helmet - even with the way Din’s fingers over his blaster twitch, the way it looks like oh, hey, the Mandalorian might kill him anyway, but -
He just sighs, shoulders dropping as his hand falls away from his blaster, head turning away.
Not much to look at here, rock and dust and burned out mining settlements.
“I have a job to do,” the Mandalorian grits out.
Luke studies him, considers his words and smiles. Small thing at the corner of his mouth.
“Want help with that?”
Which is how Luke gets dragged into a plan only an idiot could love, which of course is why he’s all for it and all kinds of fighty action.
(Including the one where he and Din end up back-to-back against a mob of baddies and quips an one-liners and dry retorts are exchanged and Luke is far more charmed by the whole thing than he should be, and the same for Din and it’s just a slippery slope from there, you know?)
Also, just when they think the fighting’s over the last baddie on a roof somewhere takes a shot at them and it’s hard to say which of them is more impressed at what happens after that. Din who shot the baddie dead, body tumbling from the roof as in westerns of olde, or Luke who deflected the shot with his lightsaber.
Still.
Din tilts his head at Luke as he holsters his blaster, says - mocking? teasing?
“You missed.”
Because he has seen, okay, he has seen Luke deflect blaster bolts right back at the idiot who fired them, knows he can do that.
Luke shrugs, that little smile on his face he had when this whole mess started back, and he says,”You had it covered.”
And then goes off to check on the innocents they were protecting, who hired Din to save them, while Din stares after him thinking uncomplimentary things about Jedi because seriously, okay, seriously.
But also that thing about Grogu and Luke not having to work all that hard to convince Din to come see his kid.
(Has this moment, though, when Din mentions what Ahsoka told him about the Jedi order and attachment and makes a mental note to have a chat with some Jedi masters he knows later, but for now, yes.)
Din who’s all...restless, antsy, worried about setting Grogu on a path to the Dark side, so he doesn’t stay.
Goes off on Adventures and such, meanwhile Luke’s sending him updates on Grogu’s progress. Sometimes just happens to be in the same place as Din - What a surprise Din’s ass, what with the smirk on Luke’s face and oh, look, Grogu’s here too.
There’s just.
A lot of that going on, and Din is kind of losing his mind about it because it’s hard to be noble and self-sacrificing when the person he’s doing it for isn’t letting him???
Just absolutely refuses to, and has the galaxy’s worst enabler in an annoying smug Jedi who should really know better, because Jedi???
Luke just shrugs, that same dam smile on his face s Grogu chatters at Din - lecturing him, really, with that scowl on his face and angry little growl to his voice.
“He misses you,” is all Luke ever says, and it’s just.
A lot.
And then there’s a situation in which Din evades the bad guys in his new ship but also ends up crashing it. Just staring at the damn thing, hull integrity compromised and listing sadly to the side because broken landing struts and also a pile of boulders and look, not his best landing ever.
He’s not in his best shape ever either, bruised and battered and just so, so tired, and then a damn X-wing shows up not too long afterward.
Skywalker, because of course it’s him, and Grogu too.
Din’s sitting on a boulder staring at his ship and just.
Tired.
Luke doesn’t say anything, but he sets Grogu down and Din’s tiny green gremlin kid scampers over to him and tugs on his pants. Lifts his little arms and Din obeys the unspoken command to pick his kid up, and stares.
Because his tiny green gremlin kid has a helmet.
Pilot’s helmet, though, and Luke just shrugs when Din looks at him because what? Things get turbulent sometimes when one is flying about in an all too recognizable X-wing and it’s not like Luke has a wingman to watch his six wherever he goes and also there are so many people out there who’d love to take a shot at him, so.
Safety measures and all.
Really.
Although maybe having a Mando-Dad is influencing his son’s sartorial choices, who can say.
(But please consider Grogu in a full set of Grogu-sized Mandalorian armor as I sure the hell am right now.)
Din huffs, and when he looks back a Grogu his heart does this Thing inside his chest because there’s a mudhorn insignia on the helmet.
Luke just happens to be looking at something in the distance when Din looks at him again, but there’s this hint of a smile and an air of amusement about him and just.
Yes.
Anyway.
Luke wanders off to examine Din’s poor, poor ship, see if it can still fly and leaves Din and Grogu to their reunion. And since it’s mostly the two of them staring at one another and Din being emotional Luke sets about taking care of what repairs he can do with what’s on hand while he’s there.
Artoo trundles over from the X-wing and pitches in and between the two of them have the Din’s ship looking a little less pathetic by the time Din and Grogu come over to see what they’re up to.
“Huh,” Din says, because they did a good job, but it’s not like he can just say that, now can he?
Luke rolls his eyes, says, “It’d go faster with more hands,” which he isn’t wrong about.
So Din gets back to work, and so does Grogu.
Din stealing glances as Luke sneaks in Jedi lessons such as holding panels in place as they weld them to the ship’s frame and such. Tiny green gremlin son practically beaming as Luke praises him for a job well done and Din’s heart does that Thing again.
Anyway, they get his ship patched up far sooner than he would have on his own and then it’s this tiny bit awkward.
What he wants - no, what he thinks he wants - is to leave in search of another bounty, Karga always has some for him - keep busy, make himself useful, but -
“You look like you could use a few days to rest,” Luke says, kind about it.
Din knows very well he’s not in the best state at the moment. Armor dirty and tired down to his bones, and the Jedi’s not wrong, exactly, just.
Reasons.
Ones that don’t stand up to Grogu’s little face and sad eyes and Din’s tired, enough so to give in to weakness this one time and go with them to wherever Luke’s set up shop.
And then he just.
Stays
Mostly.
Still gets restless, antsy, and goes off to hunt bounties, but when his job is done he finds himself going back to Grogu and Luke more often than not.
Enough that he has a set of rooms shared with Grogu and he’s become a familiar figure to the town not far from Luke’s school and -
“You really don’t have anything better than to hang around here?”
Cara and the others giving him looks when he goes to Nevarro to pick up more than a handful of bounties at a time, or wanders the town to soak in the changes they’re bringing to it with the Empire gone and funds coming in - New Republic fighters and such stopping by for fuel and minor repairs.
Which.
Cara gives him a look, a smirk, as though Din’s got anything to do with that, and yes.
Anyway, anyway, no matter how long he’s away Luke’s always there when he gets back, Luke and Grogu, and it means something, doesn’t it?
After a while - the trips away don’t stop, can’t help that - but he stops staying away for so long, looking for excuses to stay away.
Starts to feel less like...like an interloper at Luke’s school eve though he was the only one to think like that, especially once Luke gains more students.
Because fighting and such, and sparring demonstrations and Din won’t mind, and really, it’s as fun for Din as it clearly is for Luke.
But also Din teaching Luke’s students in combat forms aside from lightsabers and such.
(Luke sneaking in at the back when his own classes are done, leaning against the wall and watching Din with an appreciative eye until Din has had enough of the smug and the smirking and hauls him in front of the class for practical demonstrations.)
Perhaps there are long walks together, Luke and Din with little Grogu toddling along or hitching a rid in their arms or on their shoulder, and quiet conversation and peace and quiet and this contentment Din hasn’t found anywhere else.
And, perhaps, on one of those long walks together there’s a moment where Din leans down, forehead against Luke’s while Grogu chases after a frog, Luke smiling up at him -
A splash and indignant little squawk, splashing from Grogu who chased the frog into the water, of course he did. Luke’s laughter as he pulls away to rescue their tiny green gremlin child while Din closes his eyes, helpless smile on his face as he listens to Luke gently chiding Grogu and Grogu’s protests, stubborn as Din and Luke combined and breathes.
(Also, though. Grogu pouting all the way home because he almost had that forg okay, if his dads had just given him another chance he would have had it.)

Idiot (J.JK)
Warnings : swearing, mentions of cheating, mentions of fighting
Synopsis : they were childhood friends, but now they hate each other. so why did he fight her ex for breaking her heart?
Word Count : 1969
I met his eyes after the words left his lips, and I could tell a part of him regretted it, but he stood his ground. All of our friends fell silent as they waited for either one of us to say something. So many things bounced around in my head; so much dirt I could spill about him. But I took the high ground and decided to be the bigger person. “That was low, even for you.” He opened his mouth to say more, but I stormed out of the apartment, deciding it was a Netflix alone kind of night.
“Hi!” A young boy, about my age, greeted me. His smile was bright as he held out his hand for me. I took his hand and introduced myself. “I’m Jeon Jungkook. You just started today, right?” I nodded. “Come play with me then!” He ran away from the school wall I was standing by and towards the playground. I wasted almost no time as I followed behind, excited to make a new friend on my first day at a new school.
I curled up into my bed, looking through the scrapbook Jungkook made me as a graduation present, 1 year before he decided I was the worst thing that ever happened to him. It happened so suddenly, one day we were the best of friends, and the next he avoided everything to do with me. I just wanted to go back to the days where he was the one who protected me.
“Just leave her alone.” As always, Jungkook showed up as a group of guys surrounded my desk. He had stepped in between me and the leader of the group.
“Or what?” He smirked, cocking his head to the side. “You going to make me?” He was instigating and I knew if I didn’t step in, Jungkook was going to do something he’d regret.
“Jungkook, it’s fine. Just sit down.” I reached up and grabbed his wrist. When he turned and met my eyes, the anger quickly disappeared and he did as told, taking the empty seat beside me.
“Ooh little Jungkook takes orders from a girl.” The bully instigated again, causing Jungkook to stand abruptly from the seat he had just taken and grab him by the collar of his shirt.
“You shut your mouth before I knock all your teeth out.” He threatened before throwing him back against the lockers behind our seats. Jungkook turned to sit back down, but the bully jumped him from the lockers, the two of them landing on the floor and going at it, throwing as many punches as they could. The rest of the class stood from the seats and gathered as close as they could without interfering in the fight.
As the two stood and continued to throw punches, I stood from my desk and got in between them, grabbing Jungkook by the shoulders. “Stop fighting, you idiot!” I yelled at him and turned to give the bully a piece of my mind, just as he went to punch Jungkook again, missing and punching me instead. It knocked me off my feet and all I remember is Jungkook screaming my name, picking me up and rushing me to the nurse despite his own injuries.
I smiled at the memory the picture of our matching black eyes brought me. All three of us got expelled that day, and I wasn’t surprised. Mine and Jungkook’s parents on the other hand, were furious. Friends who get expelled together, stay together. Jungkook wrote under the picture, and my heart ached at the thought that we were no longer friends.
“Just leave me alone. You’re nothing but a nuisance.” His words rang through my head, bringing tears to my eyes just as it did the day he said them.
 Jungkook’s Point of View
Before I could say anything else, she was out of the apartment. The guys just looked at me with disapproving stares and shook their heads. “What? She’s just being sensitive. She’ll get over it.” I shrugged my shoulders and went to the balcony for fresh air.
“You fucked up, and I know you know that.” Namjoon said, stepping beside me and leaned on the banister, looking between the night sky and me. “What even happened between you two? You said she used to be your best friend.” I scoffed and looked down to my hands and laughed at the memories of our friendship.
“We just grew apart.” I shrugged, sparing him a quick glance.
“That doesn’t cause this kind of animosity. You know the real reason; you’re just scared to admit it.” With that, he clapped me on the shoulder and went back inside, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
We sat across each other at the library, our books spread out in front of us. Despite taking different majors, we decided to study together as a way to keep up our daily hang outs. I looked up at her as she let out a quiet but very frustrated sigh and threw her pencil onto the table. She brought her feet up and curled up on the chair, wrapping her arms around her legs and placing her head on her knees, pouting at me. She looked so cute, so beautiful, and I couldn’t stop these growing feelings. “Can we stop for today and go get something to eat?” She asked, still pouting at me.
“Let’s go, my treat.” Her face brightened at my answer and she quickly packed all of her study materials into her bag. How is it possible for one person to possess so much cuteness? I took her bag from her before she could sling it over her shoulder and the two of us made our way to our new favourite diner just off campus.
I snapped a picture of her as her face lit up at the food placed in front of her. I smiled at the picture, basking in just how absolutely adorable she is. As we sat across from each other in comfortable silence as we ate, I came to terms with the fact that I was falling in love with my best friend.
I fell in love with her. And I was okay with that fact until Mark came along and stole, then later broke, her heart. I thought I could watch her be happy, but knowing it wasn’t me she loved tore me to pieces and I pushed her away.
I walked into Jin’s place just wanting to raid his fridge for something to eat besides ramen. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Y/N crying into Jin’s chest. The smile on my face quickly faded at the sight and I went to sit on the other side of her, but I had to remind myself I pushed her away. I had to keep her at arms length. “Ah, if it isn’t our least favourite drama queen.” I sneered and made my way to the kitchen.
“Not today, Jeon.” Her words were barely coherent, but I knew her, I knew exactly what she said. Jin shut me up as I opened my mouth to say something else.
“Seriously, Jungkook. Today is not the day.” Hearing his aggressive tone, which was very rare coming from Jin, I apologized and made my way out, deciding to go to Namjoon and Yoongi’s place.
“Anyone know what’s going on with Y/N?” I asked as I entered and went right to the fridge.
“Went to Jin’s?” Namjoon asked from the couch. I nodded as I closed the fridge, some leftovers in my hand. “Y/N found Mark with her roommate, in her bed.” The container of food fell from my hands as shock and anger took over my body. “Yoongi, Taehyung, and Jimin went to her dorm to pack up her things. Hoseok is setting up his spare room for her. I was at Jin’s with her, but I too got kicked out.” He updated me on the happenings of our friend group, but I couldn’t calm the anger flooding through my veins.
I stormed out of the place before Namjoon could stop me and went on the hunt for Mark. No way was this piece of shit getting away with what he did.
I looked down to my hands again, my right hand bandaged from the fight I got into with Mark two weeks ago. He had the most beautiful, kind-hearted, caring, smart and funny girl I had ever met, and he threw her away. She’s the kind of girl that always puts her friends first. She even cares about me, even after all I’ve done to her. She’s the girl you bring home to your family, and they end up loving her more than you. But that’s okay because you love her too. She’s the girl you picture your future with. A wedding and a family. Coming home after a long day at work and all your troubles disappear as soon as you see her.
And I looked at her and said Mark cheated on her because she’s annoying. All she asked was why I fought him. I couldn’t tell her, so I ignored her, as impossible as that is. She kept pestering and the words fell from my lips before I could stop them. I regretted them as soon as they were in the air, but I had to stand my ground. “Fuck.” I said to myself.
I stormed back into the apartment and then left out the front door before anyone could say anything. And then I started running. I ran as fast as I could all the way to the apartment she shared with Hoseok. I banged on the door as I caught my breath, yelling her name, not caring about the neighbours hearing me.
“What the fuck, Jeon Jungkook!” She exclaimed as she threw open the door. As soon as I saw her, I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I cupped her face and kissed her. I put in all the feelings I’ve been holding in into the kiss, expecting her to push me off any second, but she didn’t. Slowly, I pulled away from the kiss and brought her into my arms.
“I am so fucking sorry.” I whispered.
“Again I ask, what the fuck, Jeon Jungkook.” She said, a lot calmer than before, as she pulled away from me and looked up at me in confusion.
“He had the girl of my fucking dreams and then had the nerve to toss her away like she was nothing, when she’s my fucking everything. That’s why I fought Mark. He wasn’t getting away with breaking your heart, not on my watch.” I spit out the first thing that came to mind. She crossed her arms over her chest and stared at me.
“You are probably one of the dumbest people I know, Jeon Jungkook.” Her words were harsh, but her tone was soft. “Did you really revert to a child who shows he likes someone by teasing them?” I gave her a shy smile as I casually shrugged my shoulders.
“I didn’t want to see you with Mark.” I admitted and she started hitting me in the chest lightly. I chuckled as I grabbed her hands to stop her and make her look at me. “I’m sorry I’m an idiot. An idiot in love with his best friend.”
“I missed you. You hurt me over and over again. Yet any time anything happened, I wanted to turn to you.” She told me and I apologized again before bringing her in for another hug. “I guess I’m also an idiot who’s in love with her best friend.” She whispered into my chest. I kissed the top of her head and held her tighter, whispering to her that I wasn’t letting her go.

A case in suburbia, domestic dynamics, and a forever home. What could go wrong?
the moment i’ve been waiting for! chapter one is up now! read here or under the cut.
Cas and Dean were searching for a forever house. They had been pretty much since Cas got back from the empty. They were ready to distance themselves from hunting. Dean had always wanted a sort of suburban, white picket fence life, even if he didn’t admit it to anyone. And since he already admitted how he truly felt to Cas, why not throw his need for a domestic lifestyle into the mix. Cas was all for it. Ever since Jack had given up most of his powers to Amara, thus causing her to take his place as God and him almost human, Cas had been hoping for a place to raise him like a normal child. The bunker was great for hunting and a place for Cas, Dean, and Sam, but not so much for raising a 5-year-old kid.
House hunting had been a burden to bear, but they were making out alright. Up till this, they’d looked at about 3 other houses. They were all a no for different reasons. The first one Cas decided was in a school district that wouldn’t be good for Jack, the second didn’t have a big enough garage or backyard, and the third didn’t have enough bedrooms for all of their family to stay. With the whole credit card scam they’d been running for as long as they remember, budget wasn’t really a problem, but they didn’t want something extravagant.
There it was, 538 Chapel Street in Pine River Crossings. It wasn’t too far out of Lawrence, only a few hours' drive, and all the houses looked nice. Very cookie cutter, but that was sort of the appeal. They couldn’t guarantee that they would fit in with the traditional, upper middle-class people, but what the hell, if they could kill god they could take suburbia.
A few days passed, and they were set up to look at the home. They drove the hour and a half to the next medium-sized town with the belief in their minds that this was the one. It had all they needed, a two-car garage, a respectable school district, and two guest bedrooms. They were so caught up in this concept they made the mistake of not checking the news for the nearby areas. Once they arrived, a realtor who showed them around the dwelling greeted them. It was all they could ask for and more practically too good to be true, especially for people like them. The actual presentation of the house went over without too many problems. The person exhibiting the residence commented on how it had been on display for almost a month now, which was the first red flag. A house as nice as this, in a densely populated area, would usually not be on the market for that long in weeks unless there was some hidden con.
They signed on it not a day after seeing the house in person. It was all set up and they could officially start moving stuff in the next week. They officially shared the good news with everyone the day after they signed. Sam was beyond happy for them. Not only would he finally have a space to himself, he was proud of his brother for living the life he’d always wanted. Jack was thrilled that he would get to go to actual school and have friends that were his age and not cosmic entities. In the meantime, Cas did more research into the neighborhood. There was their hidden con. The newspaper Cas had pulled up on his phone said, “Local Couple Murdered in Own Home.”
“Dean, look at this.”
Okay, that was a setback. A murderer on the loose in the neighborhood they were moving into was not exactly what he had planned, but he had delt with worse. “Alright, that could be a problem.”
“I think it’s a little bigger than a problem,” Cas retorted.
“Is it our type of thing or just something local law enforcement could deal with?”
Cas read on in the article, “the couple was stabbed, there was no sign of forced entry, neighbors reported nothing amiss besides lights flickering before the murder. The weapon, as well as the perpetrator, was never found. No official suspects have been labeled, everyone has seemed to have an alibi.”
“It definitely sounds like our thing. Lights flickering, no breaking and entering, and all.”
They decided they could pose as residents, as it seemed perfectly normal for the newcomers to be concerned about the literal murderer on the loose. Since Cas was newly human, and Jack was, well, 5, Dean thought they might need outside help. Being out of practice to spend more time with your husband and child really had its fallbacks. Sam was off the table as backup. He was out of town and Dean didn't want to interrupt his first weekend without him in god knows how long. Plus, they needed someone who wouldn't draw too much attention to their family dynamic.
“Hey, Cas, what do you think about calling in Claire to help us with this one? You think she’d do it?”
“Calling her in for help is a good idea, whether or not shed actually do it is another question.”
“I’ll call and ask, and if she wants to help, and if not then I can think of something else.”
He kept his promise and called Claire not an hour later. He decided it might be best not to tell her it was undercover work, or that it was taking place in a white picket fence neighborhood, as that might turn her off from it almost immediately.
“Hey Claire, its been too long since we’ve talked,” he started.
“Hi Dean. what do you want, there’s no way you’re just calling to catch up if you’re starting with ‘its been too long.’”
“You got me there. I was just wondering if you wanted to come with me and Cas on a hunt. Its not too far from the bunker and we’d have you back home in a week.”
“Sure, that works. When do we start?” She hadnt seen Dean and Cas since they rescued Cas. That was over a month ago, she’d been meaning to visit, but she’d been so busy with hunting, and getting to know Kaia again now that she was finally back. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to reconnect and not miss out on anything too big back at home.
“If you could come down here by Wednesday, that’d be great.”
“Sounds good. I’ll see you then.” She was tempted to sign off with an ‘I love you’ but she was never a lovey-dovey person in that way.
On tuesday she promised Jody she’d be extra careful and would be back in under a week. Kaia told her to make sure to call every day and update her on what was happening. Claire agreed, promising to keep in touch. She spent the rest of the day driving down to Kansas.
Back on Dean and Cas’s end, they were trying to get the house set up for 4 people when they had no furniture prior to this. Cas had always loved furniture shopping even before he had a use for it. When he worked at the Gas-and-Sip, he would browse the home improvement magazines in his spare time. Dean was pretty much the opposite. He had never had reason to care for it, so he didn't. Maybe his hatred for Swedish furniture was rooted in his deep-seated commitment issues. It didn't matter much why he hated it, he just left most of the choices up to Cas. there was then the issue of appliances and such you couldn't find in a furniture store. That was left up to him. Cas sent him out to Walmart to get things for the kitchen. That was something he could do. He picked out a mixer, some silverware, and a pioneer woman kitchenware set. It came with pots and pans, mixing bowls, and a few normal sized plates. That was enough for him to consider it an absolute steal. He brought his finds home to the bunker, setting them on the table designated for things that were to go in the new house. Jack was sitting on Cas’s lap, pointing at things on the computer.
“What’re you guys finding?” Dean asked, hovering behind Cas’s shoulder.
“Djungelskog!” Jack exclaimed, showing Dean a photo of a large stuffed brown bear.
“I thought you were looking for furniture?” Dean directed the question more at Cas, but he was still looking at Jack.
“We are. Jack just got us a bit sidetracked. We found the majority of what we need. Among other things not of as grave importance.”
Dean looked over the shopping cart and then gave the go ahead. Not before adding the stuffed bear to the cart, though.
The next day Claire arrived. Everyone was thrilled to see her. Jack ran up and threw himself around one of her legs and Cas gave her an awkward dad side hug. Dean wondered when he would tell her what the hunt would actually consist of, but he didn't want to interrupt the moment.
A few hours later, Dean fixed everyone a real dinner and had them sit down at the kitchen table. The realization dawned on him that this was going to be his last sit down meal officially living in the bunker. Everyone sort of just sat in silence for a beat. Perhaps reflecting on their own lasts of officially living there. “Claire, I sorta forgot to add this when I called you, but the case is a lot of undercover work. Also its in a suburban area.”
“And why didn't you tell me this sooner?”
“Well to speak freely, I wanted you on this case and I was worried it would make you not want to come.”
“It almost does, but i'm already here now, and i wouldn't want to waste a days driving on something i'm not actually going to do.” She guessed this would probably take longer than a week. “And i'm guessing this isn't just something you decided to do out of the goodness of your hearts?”
“We bought a house in the area, and we just wanted to make sure it was safe,” Cas explained.
“Hang on, you bought a house for real and you didnt even think to tell me? You didn't think that that was valuable information?”
“It didn't come up in our phone call,” Dean said.
“And? That’s no excuse to leave your daughter out of major life events!” The ‘daughter’ part just sort of came out without her noticing, but seconds after she said it she regretted it. God, how embarrassing.
“You’re right. We should’ve told you sooner. It was kind of a recent decision, though, so you haven’t been out of the loop for too long,” Cas said.
The next day was moving day. Dean loaded the appliances into the back of Claire’s car, since the back of the Impala was already full. Claire took her own car, while Dean, Cas, and Jack rode in Baby. Their real furniture was being delivered as they spoke. Cas offered to ride with Claire, but she assured him she’d be fine by herself. The drive wasn’t even that long, especially compared to the distance she drove yesterday.
Dean was silently nervous. He wouldn’t admit it out loud but it was written all over his face. His first real stable house, with the man he loved, and his two kids, he could only hope that he didn’t mess it up. Cas put a hand on his shoulder showing he saw how Dean was feeling.
They turned onto Chapel Street and pulled up into the driveway of the house. It somehow looked bigger and more daunting than it had during the walkthrough. Claire arrived almost ten minutes later. Everyone just sort of paused in front of the house for a minute, reveling in the stability most of them had never had.

Blind-Sided. (Part 1)
-----------------------------
Summary: This fic just follows the first episode, but Dean has a daughter, you.
Word Count: 7,098.
Fandom: Supernatural.
Warnings: Swearing, etc.
Pairings: Dean X Daughter!Reader, Sam X Niece!Reader.
Note: I did not proof-read this.. Here’s the first part to Blind-Sided. I have no idea where this was going, I just wanted to write something. I didn’t know what to do with this first part, but here it is and I might do another part maybe, differently, of course.
Here’s the Prologue to this.
----------------------------------
"So, what are you gonna do? You just gonna live some normal, apple pie-life? Is that it?" Dean questioned, walking behind the impala.
"No, not normal. Safe." Sam answered, following behind Dean. "And that's why you ran away." Dean said, scoffing.
Sam huffed, "I was just going to college. It was dad who said' if I was going to go, I should stay gone. And that's what I'm doing." Sam says, looking at Dean.
"Yeah, well, dad's in real trouble right now. If he's not dead already, I can feel it." Dean said, "I can't do this alone." He added, looking back at Sam.
"Yes, you can." Sam says quietly, "yeah, well, I don't want to." Dean says, looking away from Sam.
Before Sam can reply, he hears a small voice asking; "is everything okay, dad?" They both turned to look at you, seeing you lean out the window, tiredly rubbing your eyes.
Dean smiled at you, "yeah, bug, go back to sleep." Dean says to you, hearing a small 'okay' from you, he turned back to Sam.
"So, 'dad' huh?" Sam asked, a small smile on his lips. Dean scoffed, "shut up, bitch." He retorts, hearing Sam laugh, he smiled again.
"Alright, jerk." Sam says, "what was he hunting?" He asked, Dean turned to open the trunk, letting out a small 'alright' "Let's see, where the hell did I put that thing?" Dean talked to himself, looking through the trunk.
"So, when dad left, why didn't you go with him?" Sam asked, leaning against the car. "I was working my own gig, this voodoo thing, down in New Orleans." Dean replied.
"Dad let you go on a hunting trip by yourself?" Sam mockingly asked, Dean looked at him. "I'm 26, dude." Dean says defensively.
Dean grabbed a folder, taking out the papers, "alright, here we go." He says, standing straight. "So, dad was checking out this two-lane blacktop just outside of Jericho, California.
About a month ago, this guy. They had found his car, but he had vanished, completely MIA." Dean says, starting to explain what their father was hunting, handing Sam some papers.
Sam looked at the papers Dean handed him, "so maybe he was kidnapped." He suggested, looking up from the papers.
"Yeah, well, here's another in April, another one in December '04, '03, '98, '92, ten of them in the past twenty years.
All men, all same five-mile stretch of road." Dean says, putting the papers back into the folder. "It started happening more and more, so, dad went to go dig around.
That was about three weeks ago, and I haven't heard from hi since. Which is bad  enough." Dean added, grabbing a recorder.
"And then I get this voicemail yesterday." Dean said, pressing play, both he and Sam listening to the recording. "You know there's E.V.P. on that?" Sam asked, looking at Dean.
Dean grinned, "not bad, Sammy. Kinda like riding a bike, isn't it?" Sam looked down, shaking his head. "All right, so, I slowed the message down and ran it through a gold-wave, took out the hiss and this is what I got." Dean says, pressing play again.
"I can never go home." A woman says on the recording. Dean looked at Sam, pausing the recorder. "Never go home." Sam repeated, thinking about the recording.
Dean stood up, closing the trunk of his car, "you know, in almost two years, I never bothered you or asked you for a thing." Dean says in a matter-of-factly tone, turning to sit on the car, looking at Sam.
Sam sighs, "all right, I'll go. I'll help you find him." Sam says, "but I have to get back first-thing Monday. Just wait here." He added, turning to go pack a few things.
Before he can walk away, "what's first-thing Monday?" Dean asked, Sam turned back around, "I have this... I have an interview." Sam answers, "what, a job interview? Skip it." Dean says, shrugging his shoulders.
Sam scoffed, he knew Dean wouldn't understand. "It's a law school interview, and it's my whole future on a plate." Sam said, frowning at Dean.
"Law school?" Dean asked, smiling at Sam. "So, we got a deal or not?" Sam asked, Dean stayed quiet. Sam took that as a yes and left to go pack.
~
Dean got into his car, sighing. "So, that's uncle Sam, huh?" You asked once he sat down. Dean turned to look at you, "I thought you went back to sleep." He says, seeing you shrug your shoulders.
"I tried, but I couldn't sleep." You say, moving closer to the front of the car. "He sounded upset, is he not coming?" You asked, Dean noticed that you were worried.
"He's coming, but only for a few days." Dean answered, frowning a little. "Can we listen to AC/DC while we wait?" You asked, sitting back against your seat.
Dean grinned widely, going through his collection, putting in the cassette, Highway To Hell starts playing.
Dean looked at you through the mirror, seeing you smile. Dean smiled, he knew this was one of your favorite songs by AC/DC.
You were badly singing along to another song, you laughed, watching your dad drumming along to the beat against the steering wheel. Dean turned to you, smiling.
The song ended and Walk All Over You started playing, Dean heard you sighing, seeing you lean forward and resting your head against the back of the front seat.
Halfway through the song, Dean noticed you were watching Sam with curious eyes.
~
Dean turned down the music, starting the car and started to drive away from the building.
Nobody spoke, you broke the some-what silence; "hi." Dean heard you say softly to Sam. Dean saw from the corner of his eye, Sam turning to you in surprise.
"Hi, what's your name?" Sam asked politely. Dean looked in mirror, seeing you smile, "Y/n." You replied, holding your hand out to shake his.
Sam smiled, taking your hand and shook it, "nice to meet you." You both say at the same time, making you laugh. Dean smiled, he loved to hear you laugh.
"Daddy said you'd be tall, and smart, and that's why you're at college." Dean heard you say, Sam laughed, "yeah. Yeah, I am." He said, turning in his seat to look at you.
"What else did he tell you?" Sam asked curiously. Dean listened to you tell Sam all the things you can, until you were starting to fall asleep.
As soon as you fell asleep, Sam turned back forward, glancing at Dean.
Dean looked at you through the mirror again, seeing you wrapped in your blanket. Sam also looking at you again, once he knew you were fully asleep, he looked at Dean.
"Who's who her mother? How old is she?" Sam asked, Dean sighed, his jaw clenching and unclenching a few times. "Remember Mia?" Dean asked, glancing at Sam.
"Yeah, her parents were killed by, what was it? Vampires? Yeah, vampires." Sam says, nodding his head. "Yeah." Dean says, "that's who her mother is?" Sam asked again.
"Yeah, and to answer your other question; she's five, about to turn six soon." Dean said, smiling at Sam. "Where is she?" Sam asked quietly, "Mia, she called me. Told me to go to her as fast as I can.
And I did. What I wasn't expecting was to find her bleeding out and little Y/n confused, but still trying to her mom." Dean said, gripping the steering wheel and loosening his grip.
"She died, but asked me to look after our daughter. I wasn't sure at first, but once I had a good look at her, I knew. She was, is, my daughter." Dean added, Sam turned to look at you.
You were still asleep, Sam stared at you, noticing you had some of Dean's features. Sam smiled softly, he knew once you opened your eyes, they'd be a little like your mom's, if he remembered correctly.
Sam turned back forward in his seat, sighing.
~
About five hours into driving nonstop, you were still asleep.
Sam looked at you again, chuckling and shaking his hand. "Is she always asleep when you drive?" Sam asked, Dean glanced at him, smiling. "Yeah, I think she loves the sound of the engine." Dean answered.
Half an hour later, you woke up, as Dean parked at a gas station. Dean got out of the car, you following besides him. "What are you doing?" Dean asked, looking down at you.
"I have to use the bathroom." You answered, looking up at him, both of you walking inside, you, heading straight for the bathroom.
Dean shook his head, grabbing a few things to buy, also grabbing what he knew you liked. Dean walked up to the counter, seeing you walking over to him. After Dean paid for the stuff, he handed you some of the stuff.
Both of you walked outside, you going towards the car and going inside, while Dean went to fill up the car with gas.
"Hey, you want breakfast?" Dean asked, holding up a bag of chips and a bottle of soda in one hand and candy in the other. Sam scoffed, "no, thanks." He answered, going through Dean's cassette tapes.
"Besides, how'd you pay for all that stuff? You and dad still running credit card scams?" Sam asked, "yeah, well, hunting ain't exactly a pro-ball career." Dean answered.
"Besides, all we do is apply. It's not our fault they send us the cards." He added, going over to the drivers side once he was done.
Sam chuckled, shaking his head, "yeah, and what names did you write on the application this time?" Sam asked, closing the door, box of cassette tapes on his lap.
"Uh, Burt Aframian, and his son Hector." Dean said, tossing the stuff he had in his hands on the seat, starting the car. "Scored two cards out of the deal." He added, smiling at Sam.
"Sounds about right." Sam admitted, nodding his head. "I swear man, you gotta update your cassette tape collection." Sam said, still going through the box of tapes.
"Why?" Dean questioned, "well, for one; they're cassette tapes, and two; Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Metallica? It's the greatest hits of mullet rock." Sam answers, throwing a cassette tape back into the box.
"House rules, Sammy. Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake-hole." Dean stated, grabbing one of the tapes and put it in. "You know, 'Sammy' is a chubby twelve-year old. It's Sam, okay?" Sam says, as Back In Black started playing.
Dean heard you laugh, he smiled at Sam. "Sorry, I can't hear you, the music's too loud." Dean says, turning up the music and drove away from the gas station.
~
Sam got off the phone, hanging up. "All right, so, there's no one matching dad at the hospital or morgue. So that's something." Sam said, Dean glanced at him, nodding.
"Check it out." Dean says, seeing police cars and officers on a bridge. Dean parked away from them and looked in the glove compartment. "Alright, sweetheart. You know what to do." Dean says to you.
"Stay hidden, and don't make any noise." Dean heard you say monotonously, he turned to look at you, seeing a comic book in your hands and sitting at the far right in the shadow.
Sam turned to look at you, wondering just how used to this you are. "Let's go." Dean says to Sam, he followed Dean, going out the door and walking towards the abandon car, he assumed.
"Spotless. It's almost too clean." Dean and Sam heard someone say, "so, this kid, Troy. He's dating your daughter, isn't he?" A man asked, "yeah." Another replied, "how's Amy doing?" He asked again.
"She's putting up missing posters downtown." He answered, "you fellas had another one like this just last month, didn't you?" Dean asked, "and who are you?" The same person asked, looking at Dean and Sam.
"Federal marshals." Dean answered, showing him his fake badge. "You two are a little young for marshals, aren't you?" He questioned skeptically, "ha, thanks. That's awfully kind of you.
You did have another one just like this, correct?" Dean asked again, walking closer to the car. "Yeah, that's right. About a mile up the road. There's been others before that." He answered.
"So, this victim. You knew him?" Sam asked him, he nodded his head. "Town like this, everybody knows everybody." He answers, "any connection between the victims, besides that they're all men?" Dean asked, walking around the car, hands behind his back.
"No, not as far as we can tell." He answered, "so, what's the theory?" Sam asked, walking towards Dean. "Honestly? We don't know. Serial murder? Kidnapping ring?" He answered.
"Well, that is exactly the kind of crack police work I'd expect out of you guys." Dean commented, Sam stomped on Dean's foot, forcing a smile at the police officer.
"Thank you for your time." Sam said to him, "gentlemen." He added, walking away, Dean following behind him and hitting Sam behind his head.
"Ow." Sam said, turning to Dean. "What was that for?" Sam asked, "why you gotta step on my foot?" Dean asked, "why do you gotta talk to police like that?" Sam retorted, Dean looked at him.
"Come on. They don't really know what's going on. We're all alone on this. I mean, if we're going to find dad, we gotta get to the bottom of this thing ourselves." Dean said, Sam looked over Dean's shoulder, clearing his throat.
Dean turned around, seeing the sheriff and two FBI agents. "Can I help you boys?" The sheriff asked, "no, sir. We were just leaving." Dean answered, "Agent Mulder. Agent Scully." Dean said as the two FBI agents walked past them.
Dean and Sam walked past the sheriff and towards the impala.
~
Dean turned to looked at you, seeing that you were asleep again.
He and Sam got out of the car and saw a girl hanging up a missing poster. "I'll bet you that's her." Dean says, "yeah." Sam said, both of them walking towards her.
"You must be Amy." Dean says to her, "yeah." She answers, "yeah, Troy told us about you. We're his uncles. I'm Dean and this is Sammy." Dean said, pointing to Sam.
"He never mentioned you to me." Amy says, glancing at them and starting to walk again. "Well, that's Troy, I guess. We're not around much, we're up in Modesto." Dean says, walking besides her.
"So, we're looking for him too and we're kinda asking around." Sam said, standing in front of her, another girl walked over to them. "Hey, are you okay?" She asked Amy, "yeah." Amy answered her.
"You mind if we ask you a couple questions?" Sam asked them, "sure." Amy said, all of them walking towards a restaurant. "I was on the phone with Troy. He was driving home.
He said he would call me right back. And, uh... he never did." Amy explained, the four of them sitting in a booth. "He didn't say anything strange? Or out of the ordinary?" Sam asks, "no." Amy replied, "nothing I can remember." She added, shaking her head.
Sam looked at her, "I like your necklace." He said, nodding at it. Amy looked down, grabbing the pendant into her hand, smiling. "Troy gave it to me. Mostly to scare my parents,
with all that devil stuff." She says, breathing out a laugh. Sam smiled, looking down at the cup in his hands and looking back at her. "Actually, it means just the opposite.
A pentagram is protection against evil." Sam explains, "really powerful. I mean, if you believe in that kind of thing." He added, "okay. Thank you, unsolved Mysteries." Dean said, patting Sam's shoulder.
"Here's the deal, ladies. The way Troy disappeared... something's not right. So, if you've heard anything..." Dean said, seeing them look at each other.
"What is it?" Dean asked, "well, it's just... I mean, with all these guys going missing, people talk." Amy's friend says, looking between him and Sam. "What do they talk about?" Sam and Dean questioned at the same time.
Amy's friend glanced at her, looking back at them. "It's kind of this local legend. This one girl, she got murdered out on Centennial, like, decades ago. Well, supposedly, she's still out there.
She hitchhikes, and whoever picks her up, well, they disappear forever." She explains to them. Sam and Dean looked at each other.
~
You were still asleep when they went back to the car.
Dean and Sam decided to go to the local library to search for some more answers, leaving you in the car again.
Dean was typing on the computer, 'no results found' Dean read, his brows furrowed, typing again, 'no results found' showing again. "Let me try." Sam says, his hand going towards the keyboard.
Dean swatted his hand away, "I got it." He says, typing again. Sam sighed, pushing Dean's chair away. "Dude! You're such a control freak." He said, hitting Sam.
"So, angry spirits are born out of violent deaths, right?" Sam asks, typing on the keyboard. "Yeah," Dean answered, looking at the computer screen. "But maybe it's not murder." Sam said, typing in 'Suicide' instead of 'Murder'.
'1 result found' it showed, Sam clicked on it, Dean's eyebrows rose, glancing at Sam and then back at the screen.
"This was 1981. Constance Welch, 24 years old, jumps off Sylvania Bridge. Drowns in the river." Sam read aloud, "does it say why she did it?" Dean asks, "yeah." Sam answers.
"Why?" Dean asks again, "an hour before they found her, she calls 911. Her two little kids are in the bathtub, she leaves them alone for a minute and when she comes back, they aren't breathing.
Both die." Sam read again, "hmm." Dean says, "'our babies were gone and Constance just couldn't bear it.' Said husband Joseph Welch." Sam finished, "that bridge look familiar to you?" Dean asked, pointing at the picture with a pen.
~
It was dark when Dean and Sam went back to the car, they saw that you were awake, waiting for them.
He and Sam decided to go back to the bridge, Dean parked and looked at you. "Stay in the car, okay?" He asked, you nodded your head, leaning against the car door.
Both he and Sam got out of the car and walked in the middle of the bridge. "So, this is where Constance took the swan dive." Dean said, leaning over, looking at the running water below.
"You think dad would have been here?" Sam asked, looking at Dean. "Well, he's chasing the same story and we're chasing him." Dean answered, walking and looking around.
"Okay, so now what?" Sam asked, following behind Dean. "Now we keep digging till we find him. Might take a while." Dean replied, Sam stopped walking, sighing. "Dean. I told you. I gotta get back by..."
"By Monday. Right. The interview." Dean interrupted, turning to look at Sam. "Yeah," Sam says, "yeah. I forgot." He added, "you're really serious about this, aren't you?
You think you're just gonna become some lawyer? Marry your girl?" Dean questioned, "maybe. Why not?" Sam answers, "does Jessica know the truth about you? I mean, does she know about the things you've done?" Dean asked again.
"No. And she's not ever going to know." Sam says, stepping closer to Dean. "Well, that's healthy." Dean says, "you can pretend all you want, Sammy. But sooner or later
you're gonna have to face up to who you really are." he added, turning to walk again. "And who's that?" Sam asked, following Dean. "You're one of us." Dean answered simply.
"No, I'm not like you. This is not going to be my life." Sam says, walking in front of Dean, both of them stopping. "You have a responsibility." Dean stated, "to dad? And his crusade?
If it weren't for pictures, I wouldn't even know what mom looks like." Sam says, "and what difference would it make? Even if we do find the thing that killed her, mom's gone and she isn't coming back.
I mean, even Y/n won't know who her grandmother is, other than you and dad telling her who she is and the pictured you guys show her." He added, Dean grabbed Sam and pushed him against the bridge.
"Don't talk about her like that." Dean says, looking at Sam. Dean let go of him, walking away from Sam. Dean saw a woman standing on the railing of the bridge.
"Sam." Dean says, not looking away from the woman as she looked at the both of them and then jumped off the bridge. They both ran towards her, leaning over and seeing nothing.
"Where'd she go?" Dean asked, "I don't know." Sam says, as the engine of Dean's car started and the lights turned on. Dean looked towards his car, Sam doing the same thing.
"What the?" Dean says, "who's driving your car? Does Y/n know how to start the car? Did you leave the keys?" Sam asks, Dean pulled out his keys from his pocket.
"No." Dean answered, holding up the keys. Sam looked at the keys in Dean's hand and back at the car as it started to drive towards them, they both heard you scream as it drove.
Dean and Sam ran away from the car, jumping off the bridge. It stopped driving as they jumped off. Sam, even though he jumped off, he grabbed onto the bridge. Sam climbed and sat on the edge, looking down at the running water below.
"Dean! Dean!" Sam yelled, seeing Dean crawling out of the water and lying down on his back. "What?" Dean yelled back, Sam smiled. "Hey, are you alright?" Sam asked.
"I'm super." Dean says, laying there for a while. Sam laughed, going over the rails and saw you standing just outside the car. Sam walked over to you, "hey, are you okay?" He asked, putting a hand on your shoulder.
Sam saw you jump in surprise, but relaxed once you saw it was him. "Where's my dad?" You asked, looking up at him. "He's down by the water, he's coming." Sam answered, as you climbed onto the hood of the car.
"Did the ghost do that to the car?" You asked, looking at Sam. "Yeah," Sam replied, standing next to you. It was five minutes before Sam heard Dean walking over to the both of you.
"Y/n, thank god." Dean says, Sam looked at you, seeing your nose scrunching. "Are you okay?" Dean asks, walking closer to you, but you hid behind Sam. "Yeah, I'm okay." You say from behind Sam.
Sam laughed, "what are you doing, bug?" Dean asked, trying to look at you. "You stink." You say, again, from behind Sam, peaking at your dad, smiling. You jumped down from the car, going back inside, Sam walking besides you.
Dean shook his head, going to look over his car, opening the hood of it. "Car all right?" Sam asked, walking over to Dean, as he closed it. "Yeah. Whatever she did to it, seems all right now." Dean answers, standing in front of the car, Sam nodded his head.
"That Constance chick, what a bitch!" Dean yelled, "well, she doesn't want us digging around, that's for sure." Sam says, he and Dean sitting on the hood of the car.
"So, where's the trail go from here, genius?" Sam asked, Dean threw his hands up, shrugging. Sam, finally noticing the stench coming off of Dean, looking at him.
"Y/n's right, you smell like a toilet." Sam said, looking at Dean. Dean looked down at himself, he did smell.
~
Dean found a motel as the sun came up. You stayed in the car while he and Sam went to go check in.
"One room, please." Dean says, the man grabbed the credit card Dean put on the counter. "You guys having a reunion or somethin'?" He asked, looking up from the card and then at him and Sam.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked, "that other guy, Burt Aframian. He came and bought out a room for the whole month." He answered, Dean nodded his head, looking at Sam.
Both of them walked out and headed towards the room their dad paid for, after asking which room it was.
Sam picked the lock, while Dean stood behind him, looking around. Sam opened the door, walking inside, looking behind himself and saw Dean still standing there. Sam grabbed Dean's jacket and pulled him inside.
Sam closed the door once Dean was inside, still holding onto him. They both looked around the room, "whoa." Sam said, Dean walked over to a lamp and turned it on.
Dean grabbed a hamburger that was on the nightstand and smelt it, he groaned, putting it back on the nightstand. "I don't think he's been here for a couple of days, at least." Dean says, looking at Sam.
Sam was crouching down, looking at the salt around the bed. "Salt. Cat's eye shells. He was worried. Trying to keep something from coming in." Sam says, standing up, looking at Dean.
Dean walked over to the wall, looking at the papers their dad hung up. "What do you got here?" Sam asked, walking over to Dean. "Centennial Highway victims." Dean answers, still looking at the papers.
"I don't get it. They're different men, different jobs, ages, ethnicities... there's always a connection, right? What do these guys have in common?" Dean asked, as Sam walked over to the other side of the room.
Sam turned on another lamp, "huh. Dad figured it out." Sam said, staring at the papers. Dean looked at him, "what do you mean?" He asked, "he found the same article we did.
Constance Welch. She's a 'Woman In White'." Sam answers, looking at Dean, while he looked back at the wall in front of him. "You sly dogs. Alright, so, if we're dealing with a 'Woman In White', dad would have
found the corpse and destroyed it." Dean says, looking back at Sam. Sam looked at the papers in front of him, "she might have another weakness." He said, nodding his head.
"No, dad would wanna make sure. He'd dig her up. Does it say where she's buried?" Dean says, walking over to Sam, standing by him. "No. Not that I can tell. If I were dad, though, I'd go ask her husband.
If he's still alive." Sam says, "hmm." Dean said, "alright. Why don't you go see if you can find an address and get Y/n from the Car. I'm gonna get cleaned up." Dean says, "hey, Dean. What I said earlier, about mom and dad, I'm sorry..." Sam starts to say, but Dean held up a hand to stop him.
"No chick flick moments." Dean interrupts, Sam laughed, "all right, jerk." Sam says, nodding his head. "Bitch." Dean replied, heading into the bathroom.
Sam chuckled, walking towards a mirror and grabbing a picture of his dad, Dean and him, smiling at it.
Sam went out the door, to go get you and Dean's bag so he can change into different clothes.
~
Sam and you walked into the room, Sam saw you head straight for the bed and immediately going to sleep.
Sam laughed, walking towards the bathroom and putting Dean's bag inside by the door, closing it and walking back towards the bed, sitting down.
As Sam was listening to his voicemail, Dean walked out of the bathroom. "Hey, man, I'm starving. I'm gonna grab a little something to eat at that diner and also grab Y/n something to eat as well." Dean says, grabbing his jacket.
"You want anything?" Dean asked, "no," Sam answered, looking at Dean. "Aframian's buying." Dean said, standing by the door. "Uh-uh." Sam said, Dean looked at you and walked out the door.
Putting on his jacket, Dean looked to his right, seeing the cops from yesterday and the guy from check-in, pointing at Dean.
Dean turned, grabbing his phone out of his pocket, calling Sam. "What?" Sam answered, "dude, five-o. Take off." Dean says, "what about you?" Sam asked, "uh, they kind of spotted me.
Go find dad." Dean said, hanging up the phone. Dean turned around, looking at the cops. "Problem, officers?" Dean asked, smiling at them. "Where's your partner?" One of them asked, crossing his arms.
"Partner, what... What Partner?" Dean asked, stalling them.
~
Sam woke you up, looking out the window as a police officer walked over to the room.
"Come on, sweetheart." Sam says, both of you heading into the bathroom and out the window.
Both Sam and you walked around and headed straight for the impala. Sam opened the door for you and closed it once you were inside. Sam went over to the drivers side and started the car, driving away.
"Where's my dad?" Sam heard you ask tiredly, "uh, about that. It might be a while before we see him again." Sam answers, looking at you through the mirror.
"Can we go somewhere and eat?" You asked again, "I'm hungry." You added, "Yeah, sure." Sam says, going to the diner that Dean was supposed to go to.
Sam parked, both of you getting out the car and walked into the diner. Both of you walked towards an empty booth, a waitress walked over to you guys and handed both of you menus.
"Hi, what's your name cutie?" She asks, smiling at you. Sam saw you smiling nervously at her, "Y/n." You answer, looking at Sam and back at her. The waitress looked at Sam.
"She yours?" She asked, "oh, no. No, she's my niece." Sam says, "hey, uncle Sam. Can we order now?" You asked, Sam looked at you. "Yeah, sweetheart." Sam says, "what do you want?" He asked, you smiled.
"French toast, please?" You asked politely, looking up at the waitress. She nodded her head, looking at Sam. "Same for me." Sam says, grabbing the menu from you and handing both of them to the waitress.
"Okay, you want anything to drink?" She asked, grabbing the menus. "Apple juice, please?" Sam hears you say, "water for me, thanks." Sam said to her, "alright." The waitress said, walking away.
After you both ate, Sam and you were driving around town. Sam was asking around for Joseph Welch.
~
Sam parked, once he found out where Joseph Welch lived. Sam turned to look at you, seeing you laying down and reading another comic book.
Sam got out of the car and headed straight for the door, knocking on it. A man answered the door, "hi, uh, are you Joseph Welch?" Sam asked, "yeah." He answered, walking out the door.
"Did this guy, come over and ask you a few questions?" Sam questioned, both of them walking, Sam handed him a picture. "Yeah. He was older, but that's him." Joseph says, handing back the picture.
"Came by here three or four days ago. Said he was a reporter." He added, "that's right. We're working on a story together." Sam said, nodding at him. "Well, I don't know what the hell kind of story you're working on.
The questions he asked me." Joseph says, looking at Sam. "About your late wife, Constance." Sam says, "he asked me where she was buried." Joseph says, "and where is that again?" Sam asked.
"What, I gotta go through this twice?" He asked, "it's fact-checking." Sam says, "if you don't mind." He added.
"In a plot behind my old place, over on Breckenridge." Joseph says, "and why did you move?" Sam continued to ask, "I'm not gonna live in the house my children died." Joseph admitted, he stopped walking, looking at Sam.
Sam stopped walking as well, looking back at Joseph. "Mr. Welch, did you ever marry again?" Sam asks, "no, way. Constance, she was the love of my life." Joseph replied, shaking his head.
"Prettiest woman I ever know." He added, "so, you had a happy marriage?" Sam asked, nodding his head. "Definitely." Joseph answered hesitantly, Sam sighed. "Well, that should do it.
Thanks for your time." Sam says, walking towards Dean's car. Sam looked at the keys in his hands in thought, looking up. "Mr. Welch, you ever hear of a 'Woman In White'?" Sam asked, looking over at Joseph.
Joseph turned to look at Sam. "A what?" Joseph asked, "a 'Woman In White'. Or sometimes 'Weeping Woman'?" Sam repeated, "it's a ghost story. Well, it's more of a phenomenon, really.
Um, they're spirits. They've been sighted for hundreds of years. Dozens of places: In Hawaii, Mexico, lately, in Arizona, Indiana. All these are different women, you understand, but all share the same story." Sam explains, walking over to Joseph.
"Boy, I don't care much for nonsense." Joseph says, turning to walk away. "See, when they were alive, their husbands were unfaithful to them. And these woman, basically suffering from temporary insanity, murdered their children.
Then, once they realized what they had done, they took their own lives. So now their spirits are cursed, walking back roads, waterways. And if they find an unfaithful man, they kill him.
And that man is never seen again." Sam added, "you think... that has something to do with Constance, you smart-ass?" Joseph asked angrily, "you tell me." Sam says, "I mean, maybe.. Maybe I made some mistakes
But no matter what I did, Constance, she never would have killed her own children. Now, you get the hell outta here. And you don't come back." Joseph said, looking at Sam, before walking away.
Sam sighed, watching him walk away. Sam got into the car and drove away, calling the police station and faking a call.
~
A few hours of driving around, Sam headed towards Breckenridge.
Sam answered his phone, "fake 911 phone call, Sammy? I don't know, that's pretty illegal." Sam heard Dean say, "you're welcome." Sam says, smiling. "Listen, we gotta talk." Dean says.
"Tell me about it. So the husband was unfaithful. We are dealing with a 'Woman In White', and she's buried behind her old house, so that would have been dad's next stop..." Sam says, "Sammy, would shut up for a second?" Dean asked, interrupting him.
"I can't figure out why he hasn't destroyed the corpse yet." Sam added, "that's what I'm trying to tell you. He's gone. Dad left Jericho." Dean said, "what? How do you know that?" Sam asked, glancing at you in the mirror.
"I've got his journal." Dean answered, "he doesn't go anywhere without that thing." Sam says, focusing back and forth from the road and the side of the road.
"Yeah, well, he did this time." Dean says, "what's it say?" Sam questioned, "ah, that same old ex-Marine crap, when he wants to let us know where he's going." Dean replied.
"Coordinates. Where to?" Sam asked again, "I'm not sure yet." Dean answers, "I don't understand. I mean, what could be so important that dad would just skip out in the middle of a job?
Dean, what the hell is going on?" Sam asked, "whoa!" He gasped, stepping on the brakes and dropping the phone. "Sam? Sam, are you guys okay? Sam!" Dean yells on the phone.
The car stopped, Sam looked at the road in front of him, breathing heavily. "Uh. Uncle Sam?" Sam heard you ask, he turned to look at you.
Sam saw you looking at a woman sitting next to you, she looked at you and then at Sam. "Take me home." Was all she said, Sam and you didn't respond to her for a while.
"Take me home." She repeated firmly, "no." Sam says, looking at her through the mirror. She squinted her eyes at him, locking the doors and started to drive the car.
Sam tried to open the doors and windows, then he tried to get control of the steering wheel, but it was no use. Sam sighed, sitting back against his seat.
The car parked outside an abandoned house, "don't do this." Sam says, looking at her through the mirror again. "I can never go home." She says, despair in her voice, looking at the house.
"You're scared to go home." Sam says, turning to look at her, but she was gone when he turned around, looking at where she was sitting and then at you.
Sam turned back forward, looking out the door and then at the passenger side, seeing her again. She was moving closer to Sam and placing herself on his lap.
"Hold me, I'm so cold." She said, "you can't kill me. I'm not unfaithful." Sam says, "I've never been." He added, closing his eyes, trying to move away from her touch.
She leaned towards his ear, "you will be. Just hold me." She says, before kissing him. She sat up and disappeared. Sam looked around, seeing you had your eyes covered, sitting on the seat with your back against the door.
Sam screamed in pain, unzipping his sweater and looked at his chest, seeing her fingers in his chest as she reappeared, disfigured. Sam screamed in pain, while you screamed in fear.
You both heard gun shots and glass breaking, Sam looked out the broken window, seeing Dean aiming his gun at the window still. Dean shot again, Sam sat up, "I'm taking you home." Sam said, driving the car straight into the house.
Dean's eyes widen seeing the car go straight into the house and heard you stop screaming. "Sam!" Dean yelled, Sam stopped the car. "Sam?" Dean asked, "here." Sam answers, groaning in pain.
"Are you okay?" Dean asked, walking towards your door, seeing you leaning against the seat, unconscious. "Hey, bug, are you okay?" Dean asked as he opened the door looking over you.
You had a cut on your right side of your forehead, other than that, you were fine, unconscious, but fine as Dean can tell. Dean lied you down, leaving you in the car.
"Sam are you okay?" Dean asked, going out the car and going to the front passenger side to help Sam out. "Yeah, I'm fine. I think, is she okay?" Sam answered, looking at you and then at Dean who opened the door, "can you move?" Dean asked.
"Yeah. Help me." Sam replied, Dean helped him out of the car. "There you go." Dean said, both of them standing by the car, seeing Constance holding a picture frame.
She looked up from the frame, looking at the both of them angrily, throwing the picture frame down and pushing a dresser in front of them, they both groaned, trying to push the dresser away from them.
The lights flickered and Constance looked towards the stairs, water was coming down. She went over by the bottom of the stairs, seeing her children. "You've come home to us, mommy." They both say, going by her side and hugging her.
Constance screamed, the three of them dissolving into a puddle.
Dean and Sam watched their interaction, before looking at each other and finally pushing the dresser down and away from them. Both of them walking over to where Constance and her kids were not ten seconds ago.
"So this is where she drowned her kids." Dean says, sighing. "That's why she could never go home." Sam said, "she was too scared to face 'em." He added, smiling at Dean.
"Found her weak spot. Nice work, Sammy." Dean says, patting Sam on his chest, Sam laughed in pain, "yeah, I wish I could say the same for you." Sam says looking at Dean. "What were you thinking, shooting Casper in the face, you freak?" Sam asks, Dean turned to look at him.
"Hey. Saved your ass." Dean says. pointing at Sam. Dean bent down, inspecting his car. "And I'll tell you another thing; if you screwed up my car, I'll kill you." Dean stated, looking at Sam.
~
Dean drove, AC/DC's Highway To Hell was playing. Sam was looking at a map, trying to find where the coordinates lead to.
"Okay, here's where dad went. It's called Black Water Ridge, Colorado." Sam says, Dean nodded his head. "Sounds charming. How far?" Dean asked, glancing at the map.
"About 600 miles." Sam answered, "if we shag ass, we can make it by morning." Dean said hopefully, looking at Sam. Sam looked up from the map and then at Dean.
"Dean, I..." Sam says, "you're not going." Dean says, "the interview's in, like ten hours. I gotta be there." Sam stated, Dean sighs quietly, nodding his head. "Yeah. Yeah, whatever. I'll take you home." Dean said, focusing back on the road.
After hours of driving, Dean parked in front of Sam's building. Sam got out, leaning against the open window. "You'll call me if you find him?" He asked, Dean nodded his head.
"Maybe I can meet up with you later, huh?" Sam asks, smiling. "Yeah, all right." Dean replies, "bye, uncle Sammy." Sam turned to look at you, "bye, sweetheart." He says, smiling at you.
Sam stood up straight, walking towards his building. Dean started the car, "Sam." Dean says, looking out the window. Sam turned and looked at Dean, "you know, we made one hell of a team back there." Dean said, "yeah." Sam replied.
Dean looked away and started driving. Sam watched the car, sighing.
Dean drove around the building, wanting to check on Sam, he looked at you after parking the car again. "Stay here, alright?" Dean said, "okay." You say as Dean got out of the car and ran up towards Sam's apartment.
Dean kicked the door open, "Sam!" Dean yelled, running towards the bedroom. Dean saw Sam laying on the bed, looking up at the ceiling, while the room was on fire. Dean looked up, seeing Sam's girlfriend on the ceiling.
"Sam! Sam!" Dean yelled at him, "Jess!" Sam yells, Dean walked over to him and pulled him up from the bed, pushing Sam out the door. "No! No, Jess!" Sam yells over Dean's shoulder, looking at the ceiling.
"We gotta get out!" Dean yells, still pushing Sam out the door, while he kept yelling for his girlfriend.
~
Sam stood behind the impala, the trunk open, while firefighters put out the fire. Dean walked over to him.
Dean looked at Sam, "hey, are you okay?" He asked, Sam nodded his head, throwing a gun back into the trunk.
"We've got work to do." Sam said, closing the trunk and walked towards the passenger side. Dean got in and drove away.
You guys stayed there for a few days longer before Dean decided to check out the coordinates their dad left behind for him.

Winter of 2018 - Summer of 2021 TIME FILES WHEN YOU’RE IN YOUR 20s!!!!
OH BOY. It’s been three years (or more) since I updated this. “Time is a weird soup!” to quote a fave. I guess I quit tumblr around the time there was a purge of content and creators and a smack down on a lot of the fandom communities. Tumblr has always been something of a crapshow though so I’ve been more productive with my time than I was in some ways, but I’ve also found other ways to waste my time. *cough twitter/netflix/youtube/MTGArena cough*.
General Life Achievements since 2018 -JLPT N3 GET in 2019! -Blackbelt GET in 2018! -TESOL 120 Hour and BE 50 Hour Cert from online provider GET in 2021 -STUDENT LOAN BANISHED (Thank you grandparents) -Survived Apartment flooding in early 2020. -Mystery anxiety related illness and chronic pain in my left leg from early 2020 - Present. -A mythical 6th and 7th year on the JET Programme. -Started posting on Instagram a lot more about my wanderings around Matsuyama/Uwajima. Mainly old buildings and stray cats. @astormyknight -Surviving so far in Japan with old rona-chan.
2018 was rough. I was given an additional school in the first semester (March to July) as we had someone find a better job. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit of a rough go especially when I was transferred that August after three fantastic years at Tsubaki JHS and ES and only a semester there. I legit went through the five stages of grief - which I think is another reason I stopped blogging. I was given my current base school along with four other schools. Going from 2(3) to 5 schools was a bit of an adjustment. I still feel a bit spread out.
That said, I keep running into teachers and students who were at the Tsubaki’s. The teachers shuffle around every April, so it's always a lottery with which new faces are going to be old friends (or enemies…). A couple of kids moved and transferred into my current schools from Tsubaki too. So I have one kid I can say I've been teaching for 6 out of the 7 years I've been here!
One of the kids who was in JHS 3rd grade when I first got here (in 2015!) hangs out around one of my favorite cafes, so I got chatting with him recently. He's in his second year of nursing school - his class nearly broke me in the first year, it was really a trial by fire with those kids. I was 22 then, and he’s 20 now, so it was interesting chatting to him about that first year of teaching. His younger sister was one of my favorite students too, she was in the group of kids that graduated in the March of 2018, the year group that went through Tsubaki JHS with me - they’re newly minted University students now!
This Thursday morning when I was cycling in to work, a kid who was 2nd year JHS when I left  (so 2nd or 3rd year JHS now) pulled up with their Mum in a van and got their mamachari out of the back to bike to school. The franticness of it all was hilarious. Their Mum legit sat on the horn until I pulled over. I was so happy to run into this kid, even at social distance and both of us late to work/school - because we both remembered each other and as they were going around the corners they were yelling each time they turned and humming the old elementary school directions chant and pelting me with questions about what I’ve been up to.
I've had so many students and schools now, that everything is kind of running into a blur. I remember flashes of kids faces and voices, random memories of in class or out of class shenanigans out of the blue. Also, I now, more than ever, have issues remembering kids' names, but I still know their faces (even with their masks), whose homeroom class they were in, who their friends were and which club they were in. I get random flashbacks to past conversations with them when I see them on the street or we run into each other. I feel bad because the first thing former students ask is ‘Do you remember my name?’ and I always have to be like, ‘Honestly, no, but I remember you did this on x day, x month in x classroom’.
Socially in 2018 -2019 - a few of our friends went home and things shook up a little. Our DnD group changed a bit - one of our players stepped into the role forever DM (THANK YOU RALPH). From memory the newbies were great - some of them just went home at the start of last month and it’s weird not seeing them around (JESS DO YOUR BEST!). I think we only have one or two people left from that rotation. There’s no 6th year ALTs, and only two 5th years.
Aug 2018 - Aug 2019 was the year of Hiura - my mountain school. Dang man, they were so cool. The students of the JHS and the ES combined barely hit 30, so each class was between 3-10 students depending on the grade. It was easier to get to know the kids, their abilities and their goals than it has been for me at other schools. I miss it so bad, being in nature once a week did my country-kid heart so good! The bugs! The frogs! The river! The mountain! The monkeys! The lizards! The dilapidated houses and hidden shrines!!!! The random crabs in the English room...I forgot that there was such a thing as freshwater crabs, and being right next to a river, the invasion wasn’t as out of place as I first thought...
The area is so picturesque and calming. Every week up there was a small adventure (after getting over my motion sickness from the bus ride up). The kids were constantly pranking either myself or the main English teacher. There was always some new weird bug or lizard in a tank to be educated about. There were chickens on the way to the JHS that used to escape from their cardboard box prisons to run riot on the gardens. There were old people to freak out with my youth and foreignness! The kids also got to do a lot of extra classes, sumiyakai (making charcoal the traditional way), planting and maintaining rice paddies, setting up vegetable gardens, raising fireflies, conserving a special breed of fire lily (only found in this particular mountain valley) and another rare flower, wilderness training ect.
I wish I could have stayed there a lot longer but SOMEONE (read...the BoE) decided that schools had to be shuffled again(thank goodness the dude who has it now was able to keep it from the 2021 shuffle, he's the best fit for the school). I had so many good memories from there, I wish I had been more consistent in writing it down. I do have a bunch of photos and videos from there though, so that's nice. The only thing I don’t miss is the bus trip up and down - not only was it motion sickness, there was a healthy dose of fear each ride as the driver brought us perilously close to the edge of the mountain drop…
2019 - 2020 was interesting. With the school I got given instead of the Hirua’s I was roped into more demonstration lessons which was a lot of pressure because I was also involved quite heavily with the JHS observation and training lessons too. They were somewhat rewarding, the third graders are now super smart 5th graders, but the teachers  who need to embrace the new curriculum and ways of teaching really haven’t taken on anything from the lessons....
Outside of work as well, I was given the chance, thanks to an ALT buddy of mine, to join in with the local festival. It's been one of the biggest highlights of my time here, and I am gutted it’s been cancelled for the last two years, but I understand the reason…. I was able to travel to Okinawa too during that summer for an international Karate seminar with the Dojo I train with. I met the head of the style I currently practice and a bunch of people from around the world. I also got to see Shuri castle before it burned down. So that was a stroke of luck. One of the places I want to go when/if we get out of this pandemic is Okinawa. I want to see more of those Islands so bad. Just before the whole pandemic thing too - I managed to see the Rugby World Cup, a Canada vs NZ match, I even ran into Tana Umanga in Oita city!!!
2019 - 2020 was supposed to be my last year on JET, so I was frantically Job hunting. I went to the Career Fair in Osaka in early Feb/Late January 2020. I applied and got interviewed for a position in Sendai in early Jan 2020. In the end though - the Rona hit. We started hearing whispers of it around the end of 2019, then the cruise boats happened, and then Japan refused to cancel the Olympics...every holiday season there is a new wave of infections, my nurse friends in Tokyo are struggling....my teacher friends in more populous areas of Japan are struggling…
JET couldn't get new ALTs for 2020-2021, I took the extra year when it was eventually offered, as the one job I had managed to get a serious offer for was hesitating because with the rona setting in, things were uncertain. There was a lot of time spent adjusting to the new rules surrounding what we could do in class with the kids as well as textbook change. Schools shut on and off during the spring months.
I also got a reminder of my mortality mid May with an unrelated illness which is still smacking me around a bit - stress/age, it does things to the human body it has no right to. It's only been in the last three months I’ve been able to exercise like I used to, I’ve put on a bunch of weight I can't shrug off (one part medication, another part diet) My relationship with food needs to change, and I really need a kitchen that allows me for more than one pan meals. I also need to figure out what to do with a left leg that is in constant pain from the knee down and a heart that misses beats when stressed out (mentally and physically…).
My apartment also got flooded by the guy upstairs at one point, I spent most of late February/early March living in a hotel while my walls and floor got redone - I think this was one of the things that really stressed me out and kicked my anxiety right up a notch, it was right when things were getting REALLY bad with rona-chan in Hokkaido and schools were shutting down here as it was filtering into the prefecture and so Japan closed schools for the first time…
Classes in covid times have been weird. We’ve been wearing facemasks full time since the early stages of the pandemic (March 2020) - so I admit that I get a bit pissed off seeing both Americans and New Zealanders back home bitching about just having to start wearing them full time in public. I have asthma and have been suffering with the things on during the 30*C plus with high 90s humidity summers. Teachers were offered vaccines late July 2021, just days before the Olympics were open - and I finished my two shots in the middle of August. But the overall distribution and take up of the jab has been slow.  As mentioned above, we can't play a lot of the games we used to play with kids in classes anymore, and a lot of the activities outlined in the textbook curriculum need to be adjusted too, so we’ve had to be creative. We use hand sanitizer a lot more too. One of the things I miss the most though, is eating lunch with the kids.
Socially from summer 2020 - now 2021 we played a lot of DnD and board games, both online and in person when we could. There were no new ALTs again for the 2021-2022 JET year, and those of us who were in 6th year were offered a 7th. Four out of six of us took it. As a whole we’re down from a peak of 38 ALTs for Junior High and Elementary school to 22 for now. We hopefully will get a new person at the end of September, and 4 more in November. Which will bring us to 27. This has led to ANOTHER round of school shuffles.
Summer vacation has been weird the last two years. With rona-chan, we haven’t really been able to travel. All the summer festivals (all the Autumn and Winter ones too!) have been cancelled, so the changing of seasons just feels, wrong. I dunno. There is so much we all miss from pre-rona-chan, and so much that doesn’t happen that makes this just feel like one long long unending year of sadness, coldness, raininess, unbearable heat and repeat. I’m tired. Time is going so fast, but so.dang.slow.
I lost my favorite school (AGAIN GDI!!!) and gained the school I taught a semester at in 2019....I had my first day there on Wednesday. Schools actually started back on September 1st so there was some drama as the BoE didn’t communicate fast enough about our school changes. We legit got told on the 27th of August (on a Friday) our schools were changing effective September 1st, but somehow some of our schools found out on the Monday 30th August. In July we were told we would be changing schools at the end of September, so.a lot of ALTs and schools were left short changed, not having opportunities to say goodbye to co-workers or students/having their planning for the semester more or less thrown out the window too. I love my job. I really dislike the way the BoE treats us, the Japanese assistant language teachers and our schools.
The new school I have is used to having an ALT there twice a week, who plans all the lessons and executes them. I’m at three elementary schools. I'm only at each once a week, I want to plan, but being that I miss an entire lesson in between visits, it's going to be difficult to do so. Not impossible, but being that I'm already doing it for two other schools, who are at two different places in the textbook ah…….. From what I have talked to my new supervisor about though, it sounds like the teachers have taken on more of the lesson planning and I'll be able to contribute ideas when I'm there. I just want to and wish I could do more without being confused all the time. (This is all usually done in my second language too, not in English so extra levels of confusion and miscommunication abound).
I feel like this at my JHS too a lot of the time. I want to contribute more, but even with constant communication with my main in school supervisor (who is a badass and pretty much on the same page about everything with me) I still feel about as useful as tits on a bull. Especially now that classes have been cancelled and or shortened, there's less time to do stuff. Any game or activity I plan is usually cut in favor of making up time in the textbook. When I'm in class, I'm back to being a tape recorder, the fun police and general nuisance.
Also in the last week...my two of my schools were  shut due to students testing positive for the rona. This is the second time my schools have had a scare in the last 8 months. And by shut, I mean the students were all at home, but the teachers  all had to come into the office. Because why not I guess….. I mean,  the cases increasing is really not unexpected with the amount of people who were travelling over obon and the increase of cases due to the Olympics/Japan being slow on vaccinating/delta being the dominant strain/Japan's leaders doing relatively little except asking shops and restaurants to limit people coming in at one time and closing before 8pm. I know my schools weren't the only one shut either - but still High Schools were having their sports days this week. I kept on seeing groups of kids hanging in the park after, so that was a little bit nerve wracking.
It's just frustrating - we’ve been on half days to “minimize the risk of infection” for kids and teachers, as if only being at school from 8am through to 1pm is going to reduce the risk.  My schools have only just started testing out Microsoft teams and Zoom lesson equipment. Thankfully our school’s run in this time was contained real quick, the family was super good about informing us when they got their results back, and the fact they needed to be tested. The homeroom teacher and the students from the same class were the only ones tested, and they all came back clear, which was nice. But the information came back so SLOW.
I’m a little irritated because I found out on Wednesday night what was going on, and even if I am vaccinated, I am super worried that I will end up being the covid monkey due to being at different schools three days out of five. I think other than being worried that I will catch it myself and get real sick, my biggest fear is that I will be protected from bad symptoms from the vaccine, but still be able to pass it onto some of my more vulnerable friends and students. The whole thing is a mess.
Other than Covid and BoE drama, life is good. I’ve had a couple of other big changes - both fantastic and not so great, but yeah.  I have my health (and health insurance!) for now. I have a job, for now. I have a sense of existential dread for the next 12 months, but we’ll see where we end up. Life post JET is going to be way less cushy and I am TERRIFIED. I mean, I have a BA in Eng/Ling and no idea what to do with it…..because I am NOT suited for academia.
TLDR: Love my job. Don’t like the system. What is life? Future scary.

Third Side Saving
Hello darlings! What a stormy day I'm having. The wind has been snarling across the roof all day!
Today's story was brought to you by Clown! Darling, I hope it's everything you were hoping for! There will definitely be more of this!
Prompt: Higher Being Housemates, with the making and signing of a Contract.
+++
“Do you have a minute? I’ve discovered a rather complicated situation.”
Tracy looked up from her desk to discover Davi lingering in the doorway. The angel was one of the quieter members of their household. Oh, he was around, and if he was around, Mara usually was too because the lovebirds were never far from each other. Today, however, this lovebird was flying solo.
“I would make time for you even if I didn’t have a minute,” she promised him. Her finals were done at last, and now it was the yearly registration song and dance. That, however, was not as time sensitive and could be put aside. “What can I do for you, Birdie?”
“It’s about a human,” he told her and tentatively sat at the table across from her. “The discussion the other night, regarding Contracts, gave me an idea and I want to discuss it with you.”
“Go for it,” Tracy said encouragingly and went for the ever-full coffee pot that she was reasonably sure had been Miracled to always stay hot and perfect. Then again, it could easily be the Cats and their habit of mobbing anything she thought was important to keep her life going smoothly. “Might not be able to answer, but I’ll do my best.”
“The human in question is a friend,” Davi explained as Tracy made her coffee and doctored it from their truly extensive collection of flavorings. “If angels can be considered such with humans. I met him not long after I came to Earth.”
“Got it. So what do you need me for?”
“I don’t, precisely. I need Blake, but he says he needs your permission first,” Davi told her. He fiddled with a pen and steeled himself long enough to meet her eyes. “My friend, his name is Jonas, he’s in a bad position. His wife died two years ago, and his daughter is dying of the same genetic disease. He’s been bankrupted by the health system, and he’s going to lose his job because of the time he has to spend at the hospital.”
“Sounds like time for some Angelic Interference.”
“The Host… we have limitations,” Davi explained to her, suddenly tired and very sad all at once. The weight of his work as a minor Guardian bore down on him. Tracy didn’t need to ask to know that he remembered every soul he tried and failed to save. “I don’t have the power, or the permission, to help him the way he needs. I can’t do anything that big, but…”
“But a Contract with a greater demon could,” Tracy realized abruptly as the pieces came together in her mind. “Blake is limited only by his power and my permission. If your friend signs a Contract, we can make sure he has everything he needs.”
“Yes.”
It was an odd shade of simple and brilliant. One that Tracy had never considered before. Of course. Of course the angels had limits. She knew that from Angelika, after all. She would have done far more for her homeless shelter if she could have. Davi was of the Least Order as Angelika had been. His hands were tied to help people the way they needed helping.
But Tracy, with seventeen demons, didn’t answer to anyone.
“Blake, I need you,” she said with a gentle tug on the place where her first, dearest demon was bound to her heart. “Davi, get your friend. Is he already in the know?”
“He caught me molting before I met Mara,” Davi said, somewhat embarrassed. “Like Angelika, I was living in shared housing. I… may have gotten entirely tangled in the shower curtain and ripped it off the wall.”
“Awesome. That cuts down on explanations. Does he trust you enough to take a Contract with a demon?”
“We’re doing Contracts now?”
Blake swept into the room, as dramatic as the Cats and shrouded in his gorgeous magpie wings. Tracy accepted a kiss on the head when he went past her, hunting for the coffee.
“Davi has a friend that Heaven can’t help,” Tracy explained with a nod to Davi, who stepped out onto the balcony and vanished into the sky in a rush of white feathers. “I seem to remember you and Mara getting spectacularlydrunk and redoing the demonic boilerplate Contract to play nice with our household rules. You still have it?”
“Less whatever we’re giving and what we’re taking in return,” Blake said with a baffled shrug. “Wouldn’t be hard to update. Not like either of us are new to taking Contracts.”
Tracy nodded decisively, a plan forming in her head. One that made her smile with genuine, smug pleasure. “Grab it, will you? Davi is getting his friend, and I get the feeling that sooner is better than later with this one.”
Blake gave her a confused wing-shrug, and held out his hand. There was a puff of fire that Tracy thought was mostly for the drama of it, and a scroll appeared in his palm. She took it and read over the tiny, user-hostile font. It wasn’t her first time seeing a Contract. Blake had showed her one long ago, back when they were first figuring out how to make a family of one angel, one demon, and a human. From what she could see, the Contract was as generous as it could possibly be.
“That’s the ‘good person’ Contract,” Blake told her with a sly little grin. “We have a different one for people who need some consequences in a hurry.”
“Perfect. We’ll see what this guy actually needs, but I think we may have found our niche,” Tracy told him and handed the Contract back. It would take some work to figure out all the details, but that was manageable. A rustle of wings announced Davi’s return, this time with a human in tow. Jonas, she presumed. He was a good-looking guy, who was only a little older than her. He was in a rumpled suit that looked about a size too big. Either he had no idea how to buy a suit, or more likely, he had lost a lot of wight recently. Stress, she would bet. “HI there. I’m Tracy.”
“You, uh, nice to meet you,” Jonas said, wind-shaken and uncertain. No surprise there, considering he had an angel at his back, and a demon before him. “Davi… Davi says you might be able to help me?”
“I think maybe we can,” Tracy said, and ushered him to the table. “So, let’s figure out what you need, and we’ll see what we can do. After all, if the Third Side can’t help you, who can?”

Higher Being Housemates:
As it turns out, rent is really high  in Heaven. It’s not great in Hell either. An angel and a demon come to  an agreement that works for them both.
Their human housemate still  hasn’t decided whether or not to help them, or kick them all out of her  house. After all, Grad school is hard enough without the Great War  making it worse.
