Aspen set up her camera and did really well. Immediately she was already pushing ahead, faster than everyone else (17+5). This was going to be great for her channel.
And then E didn't start as strong, but was relatively good at jumping between targets. Almost overwhelmed, E appeared surprised as, somehow, she jumped fast ahead and won! (nat 20, I kid you not)
The hotdog purse was hers! The family was on a roll today!
"YOU GO, GIRL!" Aspen yelled out at E's victory, before turning back to her camera, discussing something about girlboss and not being able to compete with adorable baby power.
Swing looked confused, but still koala-ed on to the bird stuffie before reaching out to his Dad... Swing really liked being held by both parents.
----
Briar's eyes smiled softly as Finn was focused on the scout in the photo and sharing the photo, even though later, the final shots didn't even have the kid. They sent all the photos, including the nice shots of Finn, to him, before following behind.
"Do you normally go surfing with your troop?" Briar asked, deciding to take out her phone again to take some nice shots of the scouts prepping the fish, seeing as those photos seemed to be helpful to Finn. "It seemed like there weren't any others on a board that were with the troop."
Pop cheers for E as well of course! And like the good dad he is, he picks up swing so the baby can see better too.
Swing: beh!!!
Swing flaps his little arms, dropping the magpie plush, but thatâs fine pop caught it
Pop: yea!! Say it swing!!
Adorable
Suddenly a group of monsters and a lone human walk past, one monster had bright orange and blue parrot wings. Swing actually screams in joy seeing it and starts reaching desperately
âââ-
Finn: OH IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!
He points out to a couple adults lazing around as the parents to several of the troop volunteering to help for today. And one troop leader is helping one kid with his dish. No ones in uniform today so itâs a little tricky to tell whoâs who
Finn: eheh, BUT YES I SURF WITH THEM. THEY LIKE GETTING ON THE BOARD FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I JUST LIKE SURFING!

am I crazy or is everybody very focused on Râs exes? Very interesting asks at first but now I donât really see very much questions here that arenât about that ? Come on bros what about the other kinds of relationships in Râs life ! Iâm so curious
(Just my assumptions, I say think a lot sorryyyy)
At what age did R meet Link? I know heâs her best friend and heâs known her since before R had her legal separation from parents at 18!
Also does Link ever feel like heâs more of her caretaker than her best friend ? I know he cares about her but I was just wondering if part of the reason he doesnât leave even after sheâs so difficult is because he feels like he owes R so itâs not necessarily always out of love. (I remember you mentioning R employing him and he brought up how all the money is sent to provide for his grandma)
I know R is close to Jâs family now but who is she closest to and why? I can imagine Jâs family being the kind of people to wanna care for R as if she was one of their own.
Iâd personally assume itâs Jâs parents! It sounds as if Râs never experienced a genuine paternal nurturing presence before (I know thereâs been mentions about Link being that but I see his presence as brotherly) and Jâs family is so family oriented, because of the lack of knowledge they have about Râs family thatâs something theyâd recognize immediately; R doesnât talk about her family much.
I would guess they naturally slipped into that role for R, R and Jâs parents love language seems to me as if itâs acts of service and quality time for not only giving but receiving. I can imagine thereâs things they do for R that catch her off guard
(Ex.
R not mentioning sheâs hungry because she doesnât wanna be a bother but her stomach grumbles. Nat asks R about the last time she ate, Râs response makes Nat concerned so she not only tells R that she needs to eat more but makes her some food. Nat tells R that she has to sit at the table and wait for the food but itâs just so she can talk to R, in passing Nat mentions what sheâs making is something her own mom made for her family and that she loves making for her family.
Ed asking R if she wants to go for a drive sometime after she fixes the car. For awhile theyâre just aimlessly driving around and getting to know eachother a little better, Ed tells R about the memories each spot they pass by has.)
I think theyâd be able to sense these arenât common occurrences for R and her own family because of how caught off guard she is and how R beams with appreciation of it afterwards, they get to see the little soft kid in R whenever that happens and I think itâd make them a little sad that so little seems like so much to R.
I think because theyâre parents theyâd see the three consistent people in Râs life Link, Jake and Liz as people who are only there because they work for R (even if itâs not true). To them R really has no one in her corner and sheâs been facing everything and everyone with no consistent genuine support from anyone, Iâd think this is why theyâd be more worried than angry/disappointed about the headlines sheâs been making lately. Because to them even if itâs true itâs always been R against the world and thats too much for someone to handle on their own, of course sheâd break eventually- sheâs never been given a proper chance to breathe.
hope youâre having a lovely day :D
love answering questions like these!
I imagine Link and R grew up in the same neighbourhood, so they'd have met in elementary/primary school.
Interesting take about Link feeling like R's caretaker. I don't really see that tbh (although yes, R is very difficult) this is a friendship that's lasted probably 20+ years (or close to).
Idk if you guys have ever had adult friendships that started when you were very young and lasted into adulthood but those friendships are HARD TO BREAK. It doesn't matter how much you fuck up, that person will always be there for you. (it's a very special kind of bond)
My bsf and I have been friends for like 13+ years and best believe we don't always agree with each other's actions/decisions but that person is... your person. (in chapter 7, Link refers to himself as R's person.) No matter how much they fuck up, you'll always be there for them. I think I lowkey based R and Link on me and my bsf LOL.
I agree with your analysis of R's relationship with J's family and her parents.
I would imagine when R and J are finally dating, she'd be SO close to J's parents. THEY FOR SURE WOULD TAKE R IN AND MAKE HER PART OF THE FAMILY đ„č
J's dad taking R for a driveđ„č (yes for me)
J's mom feeding R cause R probably can't cook, too busy yk (ANOTHER YES FOR ME)
I like how you said they'd be more worried than angry about the headlines... I can def see thatđ
(we're gonna see more interactions with R and J's family dw. I dont want give anything away but đ)
THANKS FOR SENDING THESE ANON! So fun to answer and I love how deeply you thought abt your questions (v refreshing to answer something different lol)
hope you're having a lovely day babesâ„ïž

Sending you the same question I sent lemon because I know youâre a big music person too! If you could go back in history and see any three concerts, what would they be? Feel free to explain why if you would like!
Hello Basil! Do you mind if I call you Basil?
This is such a good question!
1. The Rat Pack in 1964 as part of the Frank Sinatra Spectacular show. I always joke that I'm an 82 year old that's found her way in the body of a late 20s year old and I think my love of Dino, Frank and Sammy is proof of that hahah.
I simply just adore classic pop and easy listening; so much that Frank Sinatra was one of my top five artist on my Spotify wrapped in 2019. I'm also so intrigued by the pop culture era of that time (I'm a huge Classic Hollywood purveyor, you should see my record collection and my stack of biographies) and so I find the private lives of crooners so interesting.
If I had it my way; I would have Coachella, but it would be like, Ella Fitzgerald, Jo Stafford, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Eartha Kitt (my queen), Nat King Cole, The Ink Spot, The Mills Brothers, Vic Damone and so many other artists people my age would not pay to go see đ
2. Amy Winehouse Live at Glastonbury would have been such a delight.
Amy Winehouse is, and probably always will be, one of my favorite musicians and she was just so damn good. There was a charisma she had on stage and there was a heartbreak that was so palpable through her voice.
I listen to her performance of Some Unholy War every now and then my god, she was just a one of kind talent. This was the performance where she called Kanye West a cunt and I promise, you'll never hear that word said so beautifully đ
If you haven't watched the documentary about her, Amy (2015), I highly recommend it. All Amy wanted to do was sing, but it was heartbreaking seeing that her father ensured she was doing everything but that. Fuck Mitch Winehouse, me and all my homies hate Mitch Winehouse.
3. I'm cheating with this one (I'm sorry!) and my last one isn't a concert, but there are so many performances on the Ed Sullivan show that I would have loved to have seen.
Vanilla Fudge's You Keep Me Hanging On, The Animals' The House of the Rising Sun, The Mamas and the Papas' Dedicated To the One I Love (for Mama Cass and Mama Cass only.) and Ella Fitzgerald's Old McDonald (Yes, it's that Old McDonald, but the magic Ella uses to make this song a swing song is just unmeasurable)
#also i think i sent you an ask but i sent a lot at once so please let me know if i didn't!#asked and answered

Everyoneâs majors are so different. How did they all meet??
So Thor is a senior, so I'll start with him.
Thor's Freshman Year: He met Jane and his football friends this year, but they aren't a major part of this story.
Thor's Sophomore Year: This is Bruce's, Sam's, Bucky's, Rhodey's, and Tony's Freshman year. Thor meets Bruce in an intro-to-biology lab, and become fast friends. They also meet Bucky Barnes this year, as they shared a gen-ed humanities class (Maybe philosophy idk). Tony and Rhodey are childhood friends, so that's how they know each other. Rhodey and Bucky share an intro-to-psychology class the second semester, and that's how they meet.
Thor's Junior Year: This is Steve, Natasha, and Clint's Freshman year. Thor and Bruce are introduced to Steve, Bucky's childhood friend, and Steve and Thor hit it off. Sam and Bucky and Steve share a psych class the first semester and become besties. Rhodey is also in this class, and they meet up a lot to study. That's how they meet Tony, because Tony hangs out with Rhodey a lot. Then they meet Natasha and Clint at a party fall semester, and the first group hang out happens shortly after. Bruce and Tony become fast friends too. The hang out sort of cements the friend group as the main friend group.
Thor's Senior Year: (Main timeline) Wanda, Vis, and Peter's Freshman year. Bruce meets Wanda in his physics lecture, and they even have the same lab. She brings her boyfriend, Vis, with her to the group. Peter knows a lot of them via different classes. He shares a philosophy class with Vis, a bio lecture/lab with Tony, a gen-ed US history class with Sam and Bucky, a gen-ed communications class with Nat and Clint. He's also in an intro-to-chemistry lab with Wade, and the professor teaches one of Bruce's classes so they study together a lot.
Thereâs a significant amount of overlap between majors, something you learn once youâre actually in college. In my freshman English class of about 20, only two people shared the same major. Lol. Here's the breakdown (as of main time-line):
Peter: Freshman, chemistry major with a bio-tech minor. 17 years old.
Wanda: Freshman, physics major and media production minor. 18.
Vis: Freshman. Computer science major and philosophy minor. 18.
Clint: Sophomore, undecided major, there on an archery scholarship. 18 years old.
Natasha: Sophomore, dance major. Theatre minor. 19 years old.
Steve: Sophomore, Art major with a psych minor with a plan to become an art therapist. Track team. 20.
Tony: Junior, mechanical engineering major, chem minor. 19 years old.
Bruce: Junior, double major in nuclear physics and chemistry with a minor in biology. 20 years old.
Rhodey: Junior, Poli-Sci major with a minor in psychology. ROTC 20.
Sam: Junior, psychology major with a minor in anthropology. 21.
Bucky: Junior, history major with psych and anthropology minors. 21.
Thor: Senior, Astro-physics major and astronomy minor. On the football team. 21 years old.

Love me for who I am now
Bucky x Reader ( Chapter 5)
Previous / Next (6)
Summary: You apply for the Stark internship and end up getting it, so now you have 5 months to make a good impression to continue working with the Avengers.
A/N: Â I hope the chapters are not too long with no action. Lets see how it goes from now on. I have no idea how long this might end up being, presumably not past 20 chapters. Sorry for any mistakes made, hope you enjoy it even a tiny bit.
Tag list: @vicmc624Â @yasminwashereââ
Word count:Â 4,076
Warmings: fights, harsh language, not part of the original MCU
Y/N- Your name              Â
Y/L/N- Your Last Name         Â
                 ----------------------------
Three moons shined over your new room one after the other, observing its slow but sure change. A white canvas starting to turn into a personal expression of ownership and personality. Working with Dr. Banner was quite enjoyable. It was you two at first till Tony joined in, showing you little tricks that increased your productivity by 50%. Amazing what one could do with an experienced teacher. You got used to the gym, going on your own at this point. Anxiety now a part of the past. The first week in the compound felt like more than a month. Cups and mugs, kitchen and rooms, you memorized it all by heart â a surprise even to some of the Avengers still struggling with it. Your brain but a sponge for all important information.
Peeking inside your room, the sun gently warmed up your skin, awaking you to a missed call from Nea. Your fingers lazily, based on touch memory, rung her phone back.
âWhy donât you pick up when I call you?â she lectured you in the mic
âBecause unlike your grand majesty vampire Nea, we mortals need sleep to function.â You murmured in a groggy tone âMaybe share your ambrosia with me next time.â
âThey donât offer super soldier serum energy drinks there?â
âNo.â your voice sounded like two stones being grinded together. Palm rubbed over your eyes, leaning your body on that exact elbow seconds later âWhat do you want? Itâs 6 fucking AM.â
âTo have breakfast together grumpy.â Nea had a devilish tone, who knew what she was thinking in that pretty head of hers again.
âNow!?â
âNo, no. At 9 maybe. Same place we usually go to.â It took a bit of convincing, but you ended up saying yes âSee ya later sugar.â The beep following her voice made you throw the phone to the side and puff out, body falling back on the mattress. Your eyes shot open again a few cloud movements later, when you jumped off the bed and into the bathroom. Your gaze landed on the reflection, hair looking like you had an exciting night â wrong by a mile.
6AM or not, you couldnât fall asleep anymore, so what was the next best thing? Getting training over while everyone was hopefully still sleeping. Less embarrassment when you miss the punching bag and face plant in it â again.
Workout clothes on your back, bag in hand and a big chug of water â off to the elevator for your exhausted self. Numbers appearing into the little screen one after the other, counting down the floors till you smelled that familiar cleaner. At this point it did the same job as a preworkout powder. Throwing the duffle bag on a bench, you dragged yourself around the gym - thrilled by the emptiness.
âLovely.â Your voice rung out breathy with relieve. Some cardio later you began your usual workout program designed by yours truly the trio of demons - Nat, Steve and Bucky who in more than one way was the father of the shittiest things you had to do. What normal human being does upside-down crunches?Â
White chalk enveloped your fist in a cloud, as it made contact with the punching bag. The sheer force pushing back farther with each powerful blow. You huffed and puffed bearing the exhaustion starting to slowly drop and pile in your system. The little trickster in your head began hypnotizing you, making giving up or stopping now such a sweet idea, only one choice away. Yet if you didnât finish up the daily routine you knew they would catch you and the penalty one was far from pleasant. Better the lesser evil than Satan himself.
âGlad to see you are not training your face for once.â The voice vibrated with an amused bass, conducted by the heavy boots shacking up the room with the same depth.
âHa, ha.â Your skin made contact with the leather at the last word, taking the object off the chains in one clean swoop âFunny Sergeant. So much so I didnât even laugh.â Fingers wrapped around your wrists as the punching-bag rested on the floor after its ceremonial thump, making sure there was no damage you could have missed with the lack of pain.
His eyes enveloped your arm, running over your shoulder and to your face, no thought behind his blue eyes. Almost like a force of habit to check for something. Even if his body frame was big you could never noticed him moving, which was scary at first. Bucky could be anywhere at anytime with no sign at all.
âWhat got you up this early?â he grabbed a second punching bag and threw it on the hook, filling the huge gym hall with the sound of metal hitting metal âNightâŠterrors?â the sentence came out like a small whisper, hoping you didnât catch it.
âNope si-â
âDo I make you uncomfortable?â your words stuck on top of your tongue, just shaking your head â Then why donât you use my name the same way you call Steve and Natasha?â your eyes looked at him for a moment, before grabbing the weights from the side and tying them up to your waistline. His head turned to the side, somehow making him feel stupid for letting such a thing leave his lips. A coldblooded soldier, scared of a request.
âI actually had a goodnight sleep, that is until my best friend called me at 6am.â Your body pushed off the floor, chains singing out, tapping on your thighs.
âI see.â
Palms firm on the bar, your neck crooked a bit to catch a glimpse of his sagging posture before refocusing in front.
âHow did you sleepâŠ- Bucky?â the blue color in his eyes twinkled with delight, maybe a hint of pleasure at how his name sounded coming out from your lips, with that sweet tone he seemed drawn to the past days. It felt almost like he longed to hear it again from decades ago.
âI slept.â His voice was colored with need to cover his lie with a coat of truth
âDoesnât look-â you pulled yourself up the bar â- like you did much of that. Trouble sleeping too?â
Buckyâs fist kept hitting the bag at the same speed you were doing pull ups close by. Two sounds, hand in had married to a familiar rhythm intertwined by silence. His grunts sending a chill down your neck, convulsing it back a bit. It felt almost like his fingers were inches from touching you skin, the area blazing.
âUgh.â You whined out, his ear twitching in your direction. The thud followed your body walking past him to your bag âI will go take a shower seeing how it is 8 already. Time sure passes fast with you Bucky.â A giggle rung out tugging on a smile. His lips parted, but he gave himself an unaffected façade, even if his heart was doing leaps.
âI donât talk much.â
âWell maybe if you actually slept more, you would.â Scolding and serious about health issues with this man child, had become a daily occurrence. Seeing how he didnât even try to lay down. âSee ya later.â You waved the back of your hand at him, walking away.
The showers in the compound were amazing. Everyone in the Avengers had their own one. Your shampoo and products were already resting inside waiting for you to jump in. It was a co-ed bathroom, but usually most of you guys had a different schedule so no encounters. Well maybe once or twice with Natasha, but it was fun aside from her teasing. The warm skin on your heel cooled down immediately after it made contact with the light navy tiles.
âOhhh.â Your muscles made you spasm for a minute before adjusting to the temperature. Water running over your body, relaxing every bit of your strained figure, droplets gently massaging the pain from the inside out rhythmically. The stream pulled your hair down, elongating it with each pass over. You felt your arm lean onto the wall in front, just to enjoy the full effect of the radiating warmth, opening up your sinuses. Eyes slowly closing, taking you to a safe space, almost away from this world and back into another.
After what felt like an eternity of alone time in the gym, Bucky had stopped working out just standing there. He had no more motivation. Fist draped with the soft material of the towel, he made his way to the shared showers before his body froze. Running water caught him off guard, but what laid the finishing blow was the delicious smell of flowers and fruits filling up his senses. Usually faint to people, but he was enhanced â a gift on missions, a knife to his chest when it came to things like these. He took a deep breath, trying to swallow the forming lump in his throat. Bucky didnât know why this was so difficult for him. He had been in here with others before, but nothing made his blood flow faster than right now.
âBucky?â your voice shook him out of his daze, nowhere to run anymore.
âYeah. Sorry I didnât know you were still here.â Your face flushed red upon hearing him actually answer, for a second you thought it was just a random sound. His heavy footsteps echoed on purpose, almost like he wanted you to know where he was exactly, so you would feel less uncomfortable or frightened. Eyes shooting in the direction of your door, where he seemed to have stopped.
âSomething wrong?â your voice pitched with his presence so close to your naked body
âMy shower is next to Sam and Steve on the other end, but-â he stopped opening the door to the one positioned right next to you. â My name is right here.â It took you a minute to register what could have happened, before a forced laugh pushed out your throat
âTony got bored I guess.â He always pulled stunts like this from what you saw and were told by others. Pepper made sure to warn you, but you didnât think he would go this far. Then again, why were you nervous in the first place anyways? Who cares, right? You knew Bucky wouldnât do anything, he was just a puppy with a scary outer shell. Or maybe you wanted something - a thought turning your eyes a bit dark, glazed over almost.
âI swear, he needs his ass beat.â Bucky growled which didnât help your situation or thoughts âI will wait for you outside.â Pressing your lips together you held in a thought, that just couldnât sit still. Its metaphorical fingers pried an escape open.
âItâs ok. I trust you, plus we are team mates Bucky. I donât think it will always be a nice encounter for us if I started going on missions soon.â Â
Tense air, steam filling not only the room but also your mind. Damn it! You cursed at yourself, but that soon dissolved the moment you heard the click and water hitting the tiles. For a moment air couldnât come out of you, only the humidity in the room running over both your bodies.
Gathering yourself together, the memory of your breakfast plans harnessed you into action. Your finger flicked the lid of the bottle open, pouring some onto your sponge. Cutting the water flow, you began rubbing it all over your body, bubbles forming a thin fabric like veil over your figure. Taking in the ambiance of the situation, you could smell that familiar scent that usually came off Bucky â almost relaxing you out of instinct.
âThat is a nice shampoo you have there.â You spoke up. Bucky wasnât a stranger, plus small talk could ease your nerves more. In your mind you were the only one feeling weird â far from the truth.
âItâs a body wash.â He said âI use it for both.â
âYou canât do that!â and just like that anxiety flew out of the window like it wasnât here, in your chest at all â That will dry your hair out!â
âIt does the job. I donât mind.â
âWell you should. I know itâs probably too much work for you, but you gotta put some care in yourself too Bucky. This is a terrorist attack to your scalp!â
âYou seem very enthusiastic about this subject.â He laughed out, catching you of guard. He was having too much fun and you werenât having any of it. Bucky should be taking you seriously. Pursing out your lips, the little devil on your shoulder crawled to your ear and whispered with an alluring voice. The corners of your lips curled up in the same evil smirk, as your fingers silently grabbed your mango ice cream with essential oils, shampoo. Tiptoeing over to the wall dividing you, you reached over pouring some on top of his head, while Bucky was busy explaining how it is a waste of time for him. Palm over your lips grasping your jaw, you tried to not let out even the smallest peep, no matter how much you wanted to bust out laughing â he would find out. The sergeantâs big hands rubbed the product into his long hair, before bringing his fingers to his nose and catching your snickering from the other side. A new found confidence started filling your blood circulation with adrenalin.
Bucky didnât say anything, he used your lack of concentration to do exactly the same. It took you faster to figure it out, his shampoo already soaked up into your hair, roots and scalp.
âBarnes!â a hostile hiss parting your mouth, mad at his childish behavior even thought you were the one that started it in the first place.
âAn eye for an eye doll.â You could practically feel him smirking. Switching the game on you, it wasnât fun being on the receiving end.
âDid you peep on me!â he laughed out and denied , seeing how riled up you were â feeding his inner selfÂ
âDonât let yourself fall prey to your primal instincts James.â This was the first time you used his first, real name. You wanted to tease him, he always acted like a kid so pushing his buttons wouldnât be something too difficult to achieve. On the other side, fire lit up in his chest, flowing like lava all over his body, skin radiating waves off heat. Buckyâs eyes shot up almost over the wall, dark.
âOh trust me doll, this wall isnât high enough or strong enough if I truly wanted to take your figure in.â His palm hit the top of the only barrier between you two, proving his point. The tiles almost cracked under his pressure âIf I wanted to I easily could.â Showing just how tall and massive he actually was. The water almost not hitting the floor could give you a good idea about his posture. The image of his back flexing in that pose intoxicated your mind, but you werenât ready to give up the crown now.
âDonât be ashamed Bucky. You lack a few years of experience sleeping through them. Happens, no one will put it against you.â Hitting him right in the manhood, low blow even if he was 100+ years.
âSay that after you have experienced me doll. 40s James couldnât do to you the things super soldier me can.â Your voice hitched upon that whole sentence, the confidence in this man. You heard Steve joking about this from time to time, but coming directly from Bucky was a whole other thing. The shower felt like ages, when you stepped out wrapping the towel around yourself as tight as possible. Not taking your chance with meeting him you dashed towards the door, almost slipping.
âCareful doll face.â his right hand holding you by the waist, chest pressed into you. He had only one towel around his hips dangerously close to sliding off his hips and thick thighs. The water from his hair dripping onto your chest, fixed hungry gaze onto you. âCat got your tongue? You were so talkative with that wall between us.â A light push and you found yourself back onto your feet and scrambling to get out to the lockers and to your room.
You didnât want to give yourself a moment to process what happened, so you got dressed and ran off to your destination. Flying through the crowds almost, leaving the situation streets behind.
âWow wow!â Neaâs hands flew up when your body jumped into the booth she saved for you two âWhat got you all riled up?â
âI am NOT!â strenuous notes hitting her right in the face.
âOkâŠso not the case then. I already ordered your usual. Mind?â you shook your head, leaving your light green bag close to you, trying to calm down. âSo.â Leaning onto the soft pads on her palms, Nea eyed you up and down feeling embarrassment oozing out â Did you break something or someone?â
âNo, No. Can you just, drop it?â mimicking her posture you threw your face in your hands, wishing to A) go back in time or B) just disappear from the face of the Earth.
âI was going to but...â pulling her body back, letting it lean on the chair, she scanned âLet me guess. You dressed up in less than 10min, ran here for the same amount of time AND.â Her nose found its way to your hair, making you jump back protectively âYou smell like a man, not a boy. A man. Not to mention your red face.â Nea paused, letting you take in her wave of words âGrab a glass of water and letâs see if it will evaporate. Tssssss burning.â
âYour order.â A waitress rolled up with your food. Thanking her, you flashed a forced smile watching her walk away.
âSpill it! Who was it?â arrows were being shot at you. Nea was your best friend. If you didnât tell her, who would you? After a lot of consideration you sighed, giving her the sign she needed to get ready for this.
An explanation laterÂ
âYou got cocky.â Her arm taking in her weight on the table minutes after the whole story â What does the agent even look like? Is he taller? I mean do you have an upper hand or something.â
âIt wasâŠ.Bucky.â you hid your face, waiting for the explosion. Not hearing anything pulled your eyes to her wide ones, mouth hanging almost to the table. With a light motion you closed it back up for her.
âTheâŠ.theâŠWINTER SOLDIER!?â
âSHHHHH!â your body flung up, pressing both your hands to her mouth, almost stopping her air. Nea pushed you off, oxygen meeting her lungs before silence again. âDonât yell!â
âWell I mean WHO WOULDNâT .â She noticed how uncomfortable you were about explaining âAt least he smells really good. Is he as beefy as they say? Who is thicker him or Steve? What about Thor, heard he had a nice body too!â
âCalm down. I donât wanna talk about other people like that.â
âFine! Keep it to yourself thenâŠ.â She eyed you, her posture sideways âHow is the tower treating you? â The topic changed to your daily lives and some tea about mutual friends. Breakfast was nice, quite refreshing to meet the city bustle compared to the Zen state of the compound. Nea knew exactly how to calm you down and get you back into your natural rhythm. After paying, you two made your way out the restaurant and back into the ensemble of random sounds.
âAny plan?â
âHm?â Nea was throwing you a worried stare âAbout?â
âThe situation with the sergeant. You will meet him at some point in there. Gym, hall, common room. You canât evade him forever. What if you end up being paired up on a mission? Y/N, you are not the type to let stuff like these effect your job.â She was right. There was no way to hide forever. Being bold was what got you in this situation and it could be the answer to it again.
âYou are right. If we end up being in a place alone, I will talk it out with him. Probs apologies for making him uncomfortable.â Rubbing the back of your neck you paired the motion with an uneasy, maybe slightly painful laugh.
â There you go again!â Nea crossed her arms in front of her chest scoffing, letting them fall forcefully. âGoing in your head. To me it sounded like he liked it AND teased you back. Donât force people away like you usually do just because you THINK they donât like you.â Her smile was soft, sweet like that of a mother giving advice to her hurt child.
âOK!â balling your fingers in a fist you rose them to the level of your chin â aura filled with enthusiasm âI got this!â
âYou do!â this girl could hype a crocodile to fly and actually do it.
âWhat is wrong?â you waved your hand in front of her concentrated face behind you, seeing as how your words werenât registering anymore
âBetter do what you promised me ok?â her hand pushed you back slightly, before you felt an arm as strong as a bolder grab onto you, lifting you off in one swift move.
âTAKE GOOD CARE OF HER!â your best friendâs voice being left further and further away. The disruptive winds were pulling your hair back with the speed the car was drifting with, drying out even the smallest water droplet left. In a momentâs notice you got smuggled in through the big window, finding yourself sitting in someoneâs lap.
âCongratulations on your first mission kid.â Steve was holding onto the carâs wheel like there was no tomorrow, driving with speed close to seeing God.
âWhat is going on!?âyou began moving around, confused, catching the city and your freetime in the distance. Buckyâs hands pushed you down onto his lap, trying to stop you from falling out the window
âTony called. Something out of nowhere popped up and he needs us.â
âUs?â you gasped at the blonde man, trying to calm your heart from the contact with Bucky
âYup.â His thumb pointed at the back seat âBruce made sure to pack the stuff we need so just sit down and enjoy the ride. Bucky is pretty comfy.â He threw you a wink.
âCan I go to the back at least?â
âNo can do doll. We canât stop the car.â Your now seat explained
Rage, confusion and who knows what else was stirring up in you, wanting to jab a punch in both the faces of the super soldiers. Tony too, he has been messing around a bit too much lately. Your back hit Buckyâs muscles when you leaned aggressively, pushing your arms to your chest as you blew a strand of hair out of your face. The whole situation pulled a light groan out of him, that didnât go unnoticed to your shivering thighs.
âWe will be there in a bit.â Steve grabbed the gearstick with the same aggression projected on the wheel, his knuckle turning white under the drip. There was no running away from this, first mission or not you at least wanted to know before hand, get briefed maybe. Your knee began jumping nervously. How bad could this actually be - sending 2 super soldiers and a bag of who knows what. If your metal dust was in there, shit was going to go down. Could you do it? Could you trust yourself enough to finish the job, not get yelled atâŠ.or die?
Buckyâs vibranium arm ran over your uneasy leg and gently rubbed circles into the fabric of the pants. Head leaning down to your ear, fingers moving the hair to expose the shell.
âItâs ok, just relax. Nothing will happen promise baby girl.â Warm air over your skin, yet calming in a weird way âI have been told that my lap is pretty comfortable by ladies. Just enjoy it.â
âJames! Buchanan! Barnes! How! Can! You! Be! Pervery! Right! NOW!!!â a hit to his chest between each word, send a vibration through his body, the laugh coming out distorted. Steve threw a look your way, but didnât say anything, keeping his thoughts behind those serious eyes of his. As he let his best friend get beat up. Whatever it was, this mission was not just a field trip and Cap knew.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
On August 21, 1831, Nat Turner, an enslaved American, led about 70 of his enslaved and free Black neighbors in a rebellion to awaken his white neighbors to the inherent brutality of slaveholding and the dangers it presented to their own safety. Turner and his friends traveled from house to house in their neighborhood in Southampton County, Virginia, freeing enslaved people and murdering about 60 of the white men, women, and children they encountered. Their goal, Turner later told an interviewer, was âto carry terror and devastation wherever we went.â
State militia put down the rebellion in a couple of days, and both the legal system and white vigilantes killed at least 200 Black Virginians, many of whom were not involved in Turnerâs bid to end enslavement. Turner himself was captured in October, tried in November, sentenced to death, and hanged.
But white Virginians, and white folks in neighboring southern states, remained frightened. Turner had been, in their minds, a well-treated, educated enslaved man, who knew his Bible well and seemed the very last sort of person they would have expected to revolt. And so they responded to the rebellion in two ways. They turned against the idea that enslavement was a bad thing, and instead began to argue that human enslavement was a positive good.
And states across the South passed laws making it a crime to teach enslaved Americans to read and write.
Denying enslaved Black Americans access to education exiled them from a place in the nation. The Framers had quite explicitly organized the United States not on the principles of religion or tradition, but rather on the principles of the Enlightenment: the idea that, by applying knowledge and reasoning to the natural world, men could figure out the best way to order society. Someone excluded from access to education could not participate in that national project. Instead, that person was read out of society, doomed to be controlled by leaders who marshaled religion and propaganda to defend their dominance.
In 1858, South Carolina Senator James Henry Hammond explained that society needed âa class to do the menial duties, to perform the drudgery of life. That is, a class requiring but a low order of intellect and but little skill.â
But when they organized in the 1850s to push back against the efforts of elite enslavers like Hammond to take over the national government, members of the fledgling Republican Party recognized the importance of education. In 1859, Illinois lawyer Abraham Lincoln explained that those who adhered to the âmud-sillâ theory âassumed that labor and education are incompatible; and any practical combination of them impossibleâŠ. According to that theory, the education of laborers, is not only useless, but pernicious, and dangerous.â
Lincoln argued that workers were not simply drudges but rather were the heart of the economy. âThe prudent, penniless beginner in the world, labors for wages awhile, saves a surplus with which to buy tools or land, for himself; then labors on his own account another while, and at length hires another new beginner to help him.â He tied the political vision of the Framers to this economic vision. In order to prosper, he argued, men needed âbook-learning,â and he called for universal education. An educated community, he said, âwill be alike independent of crowned-kings, money-kings, and land-kings.â
When they were in control of the federal government in the 1860s, Republicans passed the Land Grant College Act, funding public universities so that men without wealthy fathers might have access to higher education. In the aftermath of the Civil War, Republicans also tried to use the federal government to fund public schools for poor Black and white Americans, dividing money up according to illiteracy rates. But President Andrew Johnson vetoed that bill on the grounds that the federal government had no business protecting Black education; that process, he said, belonged to the statesâwhich for the next century denied Black people equal access to schools, excluding them from full participation in American society and condemning them to menial labor.
Then, in 1954, after decades of pressure from Black and brown Americans for equal access to public schools, the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren, a former Republican governor of California, unanimously agreed that separate schools were inherently unequal, and thus unconstitutional.
Immediately, white southerners lawmakers launched a campaign of what they called âmassive resistanceâ to integration. Some Virginia counties closed their public schools. Others took funds from integrated public schools and used a grant system to redistribute those funds to segregated private schools. These segregation academies dovetailed neatly with Ronald Reaganâs rise to political power with a message that public employees had gotten too powerful and that public enterprises should be privatized.
After Reaganâs election, his Secretary of Education commissioned a study of the nationâs public schools, starting with the conviction that there was a "widespread public perception that something is seriously remiss in our educational system." The resulting report, titled âA Nation at Risk,â announced: âthe educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people.â
Although a later study commissioned in 1990 by the Secretary of Energy found the data in the original report did not support the reportâs conclusions, Reagan nonetheless used it to justify school privatization. He vowed after the reportâs release that he would: âcontinue to work in the months ahead for passage of tuition tax credits, vouchers, educational savings accounts, voluntary school prayer, and abolishing the Department of Education. Our agenda is to restore quality to education by increasing competition and by strengthening parental choice and local control.â
The drive to push tax dollars from public schools to private academies through a voucher system has remained a top priority for Movement Conservatives eager to dismantle the federal government, although a recent study from Wisconsin shows that vouchers do not actually save tax dollars, and scholars do not believe they help students achieve better outcomes than they would have in public schools.
Calling education a civil rights issueâas President Barack Obama had done when calling for more funding for schoolsâformer president Trump asked Congress to fund âschool choice for disadvantaged youth, including millions of African-American and Latino children. These families should be free to choose the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home school that is right for them.â (In fact, most of those using vouchers are already enrolled in private schools.) His education secretary, Betsy DeVos, was a staunch supporter of school choice and the voucher system; she and her family gave $600,000 to promote school choice ballot laws in the decade before 2017.
The coronavirus pandemic sped up the push to defund public schools as Trump pushed hard to transfer funds from the closed public schools to private schools. In December 2020, he signed an executive order allowing states to use money from a federal anti-poverty program for vouchers, and as of mid-2021, at least 8 states had launched new voucher programs. A number of Republican governors are using federal funds from the bills designed to address the pandemic to push vouchers.
In 1831, lawmakers afraid of the equality that lies at the heart of our Declaration of Independence made sure Black Americans could not have equal access to education.
In 1971, when segregation academies were gaining ground, the achievement gap between white and Black 8th grade students in reading scores was 57 points. In 1988, the year of the nationâs highest level of school integration, that gap had fallen to 18 points. By 1992, it was back up to 30 points, and it has not dropped below 25 points since.

Session 49 21 Aug 2021 - Faceless Jim
Duncan is at Matthew and Sophieâs house, so weâre just waiting for Ed (who is with us this week! He is back from the festival with a lurgy, which may or may not be covid. âSeveral people I was⊠Well, I was in a car with, have got it.â Duncan: âYou can say âcuddle puddleâ, itâs okay.â He did see Devin Townsend though.) and Mina.
Matthew: âTerrible things happened last week!â
Sophie, remembering: â*Gasp* Oh yeah! Not to anyone important though.â
Ardvack has no face, which was stolen by this creature:
Joe has edited Ardvackâs token accordingly:
Weâre in the Underdark, as a reminder. Does Ardvack want Kessler to fashion him a face out of something? Ahleqs pats him on the shoulder and reassures him that weâll fix him when we get back to the surface. Kessler wants to, in her spare time, work on a way of making Ardvack a face. He bandages himself for now, and casts Disguise Self so he looks like he still has his face. Matthew is able to edit the token and switch between his faces.
âDonât investigate me too much.â
Tarragon Investigates for mushrooms, and finds two types that could be useful in herbal recipes, so she makes some cuttings and stores them away. One is green and seems poisonous; she could use it for her contact poison. (Itâs like the ones you get in Fallout 4.) The second is blue and called a Nightlight mushroom; if you burn it, it releases a relaxing smoke; she could use it in her Relaxing Bark recipe.
Gideonâs ring says that the drift globe is trying to lead us east.
We decide to take a long rest; during it, Ardvack gives Gideon the stone of Shar that we found.
Tarragon makes Kessler some contact poison for her crossbow bolts. She can add a d6 poison damage on ten crossbow bolts - but the poison loses potency once itâs exposed to air, and is ineffective after 1 hour.
Kessler manages to make a slightly creepy leather face for when Ardvackâs illusion drops. âBut I havenât got a chainsaw. Iâll have to make do with a wood saw.â She will make him a better one when we get back to town. He takes it with two fingers and inspects it. He looks her dead in the face and says thank you, and tries to surreptitiously put it in a pocket.
We move on.
We make Perception checks; Tarragon rubs mushroom spores in her eye (nat 1). Gideon notices bones on the floor around us. Theyâre from creatures rather than humanoids; he makes an Investigation check on them but heâs not sure what exactly. He thinks maybe something medium-sized, possibly canine.
Have the bones been gnawed on, Ahleqs wants to know? He makes an Investigation check as well, but he canât see any chew-marks.
Have any been cut cleanly? Kessler, Tarragon and Melaina see that some look half sheared, half smashed; it doesnât look like a weapon was involved. Whatever did this ripped its victims apart; they are of various ages but some are pretty new, and they are clean of meat.
Uh oh.
The scenery starts to change. The large mushrooms begin to thin out, and the place grows more cavernous. The ceilings get lower, and there are stalactites and stalagmites. Kessler, Melaina, Gideon and Tarragon hear clicks and little scraping noises from multiple directions.
Gideon, with rising horror: âSome hideous creature dripping with ichor!â
We listen for more sounds as we move, and they seem to be getting more frequent. Gideon thinks we should check to make sure weâre going the right way, and uses the ring to illuminate the drift globe again. It rushes ahead of us and down into an area of huge stalactites and stalagmites; he extinguishes the globe.
Ardvack: âWhen I die down here⊠First off Iâm sorry, for literally everything. But I was wondering if I could entrust to you⊠Carl. It was always my aim to find a cleric who could cast True Resurrection on him, so he could go back to his own family. I want you to promise me you will do your best to find someone who can bring Carl back to life so he can live a full life.â
Kessler wants to know if Ardvack can promise us that Carl wasnât a murderer. He was bitten by a snake, Ardvack says. He was a woodsman. He didnât look like a murderer.
Ahleqs points out that if Ardvack dies, weâre not getting out of here either.
Gideon spots some skeletons up ahead. âI fear Iâve made a grave mistakeâŠ"
Sophie, OOC: âPun intended.â
Gideon makes a Perception check - a 12. At the end of the cavern in the direction the globe was pointing, is a large creature with a vulture like head with a carapace and razor sharp claws.
Gideon, eyeing the hook horror: âHow important is this wizard, exactly?â
Ardvack realises that without the wizard, we canât get out. We were teleported down here⊠Oh, it turns out that once we get back within the wards (where we teleported in) they will know weâre there and teleport us back.
What are we looking at? Itâs a skeksis, isnât it?
Itâs a skeksis.
Ahleqs: â⊠Maybe it wants to talk?â
Joe: âTarragon and Melaina, would you like to look behind you?â
We turn. There are two more behind us.
Initiative timeâŠ
Faceless Jim is up first.
(Duncan thinks Joe is sick of this campaign and is just throwing monsters at us to see how long weâll survive. Joe: âI asked you if you wanted to go to the Underdark, Duncan, and you said yes so I have no sympathy with you.â)
Faceless Jimâs computer takes a shit, so he has Joe cast Eldritch Blast for him. Both hit for ten total damage. The creature ahead of us emits a hideous screech.
Then one of the things gets a go⊠Itâs the fourth one, that we didnât know was there. Oh good!
Gideon, who hasnât turned around yet: âOh, thereâs two!â
It towers over Ardvack and foul smelling drool drips onto him.
Ed: âDoes it purr and roll onto its back?â
It does not do that.
One of the attacks is a nat 1, but the other hits and it starts to peck some of Ardvackâs scalp off.
Tarragon hears a thumping noise behind her as one of the others attacks her, but both miss.
Before Ahleqsâ turn, a fifth one appears.
Me: âHe is! Heâs trying to kill us!â
The newcomer thinks the Grease Wizard looks delicious. It misses as well, fortunately.
Ahleqs casts Shatter. âWhy are there so many?â
Joe: âBecause they hunt in packs.â
â⊠Clever girl.â
Joe will let Ahleqs soil himself as a free action if he wants. His muscles are too clenched, unfortunately. Next round, perhaps.
One attacks Melaina and hits, and then itâs her turn. She Bonus-Action-Disengages and retreats into a corner to attack the one in melee with Tarragon. 16 hits. 37 damage! It screams and wobbles.
Ahleqs: â⊠And dies?â
No, but it looks rough.
Kessler uses one of her new poisoned crossbow bolts - a hit and a natty 20. Noice. Including the poison, 45 damage. Noice! It wavers on its feet and throws up a foul substance right next to Gideon.
Gideon: âAugh! Why!â
Tarragon Thunderwaves the two closest to her. The injured one is pushed away.
Joe: âThat oneâs having his worst ever day.â
Tarragon, brightly: âGood! Iâm glad to have been a part of it.â
Carl is up, but Matthew has to go and collect pizza from the door. Once he returns, Carl dashes recklessly up to one and does a Slam attack. It hits, and the thing is looking tatty; Carl decides fuck it and goes for a bonus action grapple attack; but the thing is bigger than him, and may escape automatically. He gives it a go anyway. He does grapple it, but it has advantage to escape on its turn.
Is the river water, or methane, or what? Itâs water? Okay, dwarven combat roll! Gideon lines himself up to get two of them in his sights, and uses the ruler to prove he can hit them both. Both fail the save for Aganazzarâs Scorcher!
âI do 28 roasting damage to these chickens!â
He gets a how-de-do-dis on the one Carlâs grappling - its feathers catch fire and it crumbles into ash. Carl gives Gideon a gauntleted thumbs up.
Ed, absolutely delighted: âWait wait wait, I got my one liner cause theyâre birds!
âI knew this would be a poultry affair!â
Gideon takes a badass sip from his magical ale jug. He is very pleased with himself and puts his hands on his hips.
(Welcome back, Ed.)
Another ninja one appears.
Ardvack, resigned: âYep.â He drops his Disguise Self spell, and is attacked and pecked by one of the hook horrors.
Joe, entirely too pleased with himself: âWhat you doing, Ardvack? Apart from being digested.â
He Misty Steps the fuck outta there, and turns for an Eldritch Blast. It emits some high pitched clicks and the others respond; Kessler takes an Attack of Opportunity as it tries to retreat, but misses. It dashes to the back of the cave and is gone.
The two near Tarragon both attack her. Tarragon: âBring it.â They do, and both hit. Tarragon, surprised but not especially inconvenienced: âOh. Ouchie.â
Ahleqs does Eldritch Blast on one of them. How-de-do-dis! Yay! âI turn it into chum!â
Now a semi-professional coward, and aware that these things will have to kill a good number of his friends before they get to him, Ahleqs stays where he is.
Melaina hides and does Sharpshooter; 11 just misses.
Kessler steps up to one and punches it in the jaw. She goes for an Animal Handling check to try and tame one, but rolls badly.
Tarragon Rages and goes for an attack with her quarterstaff and rolls a nat 1. Butterfingers: You lose your grip mid-swing and your weapon goes flying (15 feet) away in the direction of your target. She looks over her shoulder to see who noticed; at least Ahleqs and Melaina, possibly Ardvack as well.
â⊠Well, shit.â
Carl goes for a Slam attack but misses. Gideon goes for an Acid Splash.
Joe: âNot until you do the voice!â
Ed, in Gideon old-man voice, as requested: âAcid Splash!â He moves, and turns his token around - and is genuinely alarmed to see Ardvack, faceless, standing behind him.
One gets a Nat 20 on Carl - he is Frightened of them for five rounds (Joe rolls on the crit table), and he takes 32 damage from just the crit, and then 6 more on top.
Another goes for Kessler but she reaction-Shields.
Faceless Jim again, and after some deliberation he looks in his mirror, re-assesses his face, pockets the mirror again, and does an Eldritch Blast on the one that attacked Carl. He rolls a one and a two on two d10. He basically pets it a bit too hard, like a kid with a cat. Ardvack bonus-action Healing Potions.
The one behind Tarragon hits her twice again. Sheâs raging so itâs halved to 12.
Ahleqs casts Shatter on that one, at level 3. âBLAAAAAM! Get Shattered, son!â (The somatic component for that spell is gang signs, it turns out.) It hits, and bits and chunks fly off. He has to roll a d20 (heâs been forgetting to do that) and rolls a nat 1, so he has to roll on the chaos table. He casts Levitate on himself.
Melaina rinses and repeats. 16 to hit for 32 damage! It looks rough!
Kessler once more tries to tame the one in front of her, beginning by punching it. The punch connects, but the taming attempt does not. She punches it again.
Tarragon goes bear and rips one apart, going to town on the innards. She lumbers toward the remaining two hook horrors, in melee with Carl and Kessler.
Carl is Frightened so he runs away, and the hook horror closest gets an Attack of Opportunity. 14 hits for 12 Piercing, but he has enough Hit Points to survive it. He runs to hide behind Ardvack, his gauntleted hands on Ardvackâs shoulders. (Bearing in mind that he is both broader and considerably taller than Ardvack.)
Gideon goes for a brilliant Dwarven tactic - the flank! Or - wait, no. He could always summon Rusty
We wait, while Ed has ideas. He could do flumph delivery on his spell! Wait, he can scurry - "such as only a dwarf can perform" - so he can properly place his cube, and Thunderwaves two hook horrors. Both succeed the save - and the bones nearby are scattered by the spell to reveal something shiny.
One is very injured and tries to run - Attack of Opportunity from Kessler and Gideon. Kesslerâs hits, but Gideon swings with his magical tankard and misses with a nat 1. He rolls on the crit fail table - Sidestepped. Swap places with the target and make a DC 14 Dex save - on fail, you fall prone. The target has gone, and Gideon makes the save. Phew.
Ardvack doubles down and tries again. Eldritch Blast, one hit and one miss. 8 Force damage. He bonus action potions again.
Floating shop boy canât do much so he stops concentrating on Levitate (even though it was involuntarily cast) and does Eldritch Blast as well. another hit and another miss. Ardvack, with his skinless face: âAttaboy!â
Melaina steps behind some stalagmites and hides with a nat 20, becoming basically invisible. She then misses with her attack. âBollocks.â
Kessler turns her attention to the last remaining hook horror and warns it that it can end up like its mates, or it can be her steed. It makes some panicky clicks, but none are returned from the gloom. Kessler rolls her third 7 on Animal Handling.
Ardvack, calling from further away: âJust buy a horse!â
Kessler hits it for 7 Thunder damage and winds up the second shot which is a nat 20. Stunning blow: Max damage, and the target must make a DC14 CON save. On fail the target is stunned. It makes the save.
Bear Tarragon goes full Revenant, picks up the hook horror and shakes it until bits fall off. âAnd then I eat the bits.â
That was the last of them; Gideon goes immediately for the shiny thing he saw. âGimme. Gimme gimme gimme.â
Itâs a wooden ring carved with mice. He wants to cast Identify; have we got ten minutes? Sure!
Itâs a Ring of Warmth. While wearing this ring, you have resistance to cold damage. In addition, you and everything you wear and carry are unharmed by temperatures as low as â50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ed, suddenly realising something: âWeâre ticking too many boxes - finding rings in caves, oh no!!!!â
We take a short recess for hit dice and tea.
Ardvack does not cast Disguise Self again. We all make Insight checks, even Bear-Tarragon. Anyone above a ten knows we have ticked over to the next day. We are now on the 2nd of Eleasis, in the year 1492. Ardvack reanimates some of the bones and calls the resulting minion Beverly. He is a boy.
Sophie, pinging something on the map: âJoe is this a mushroom? Itâs all veiny and weird and I donât like it.â
Melaina roots around for stuff, and unearths a leather roll of papers, quills, seals, sealing wax and so on. Joe: âI like to think that some poor diplomat has been ripped apart down here.â
Gideon reactivates the drift globe, and we follow. We continue through the caverns, in a general downward direction.
âYou can travel at a slower pace and sneakâŠ?â
Gideon, immediately: âNo!â
Tarragon can be a bear for up to two hours; she remains so for as long as she can, but reverts back after a while.
We start to hear water. Ahleqs casts Mage Armour.
We are led to a bottleneck, and then a giant cave full of bioluminescent plants - ferns, and flowers, rather than mushrooms. Even the water glows a strange blue. We see a stone bridge crossing a subterranean river which crashes down from a waterfall. On either side of the bridge are two pillars made of skulls.
Ardvack, crossly: âWell this is going to go swimmingly, I assume.â He tells Beverly to cross the bridge - the eyes light up in all the skulls. Necrotic energy bursts from them, right at Beverly.
Gideon, waving: âBye, Beverly.â
How many HP does Beverly have? And whatâs his Dexterity? Not enough. Beverly is dust.
Ardvack turns to us with his skinless face. âYouâre welcome.â
Hmm. Whoâs next?
Could we wade? The water is glowing, so thatâs probably not good. It doesnât look too deep. Ahleqs wants to know if itâs magic. He makes an Arcana check - a 7. He has no idea. Ardvack takes the Help action.
Joe: âLook at Ardvack, making friends. Someone should have ripped your face off years ago son.â
Ardvack: â⊠I spit at God.â
The water is likely just glowing from minerals or something. Ahleqs does Eldritch Blast at the pillars; no damage. Melaina and Kessler look at the bridge: they remember when Beverly set foot on the bridge, the pillars adjusted to aim at him. They see burn marks across the bridge where other creatures have been struck before.
If one of us can get across maybe thereâs an off switch? Melaina calculates how far she can jump, and aims for a boulder in the middle of the river. The sockets of the skull stay dark and the pillars do not move.
Could we use a mirror to reflect the beams back? Ardvack thinks it wonât work; there will be a mirror and an evaporated person.
Melaina estimates a four foot depth in the water. She canât jump because she has no space for a run up on the boulder, so she steps in and wades square by square. âDoes anything happen?â The skulls stay dark and the pillars donât move.
Tarragon asks Carl if she can climb up on his shoulders as she would be swept away in four feet of water; he gives her a thumbs up and crouches down. Kessler doesnât yet have a jet pack, so what will she do?
Carl ventures across, ignoring the boulder and wading right from the start. He lumbers slowly; heâs not a raging cadaver right now. He sets her down gently on the other side.
Matthew OOC: âSo I assume Ardvack is eaten by the river monsterâŠ?â
As we pass through, we see that the water is perfectly clear. We can fill our water skins if we want. We do.
Gideon and Kessler are still on the other side. Gideon wants to swim. Kessler wants to jump at least halfway, and swim the rest.
Close up we can see that the skulls are carved from stone. Gideon uses his stone cunning to tell us that it looks like Duergar work.
âOh dear. The Grumpy Dwarves, we call them.â
Ardvack is going to evaporate someone when we get back. He moves three squares and is told âStop right there!â by the DM.
Here is what happens: There is a 40 foot-ish high ceiling here, with stalactites. We pass through two columns, and something makes an attack: a tendril reaches down from the ceiling and grapples Ardvack. Does 24 hit Melaina? Yes? She is also grappled then. As is Carl, and Gideon.
It then reels Ardvack in - he is raised 25 feet in the air.
Itâs a roper!
Ed, OOC: âHeâs âorrible! Get rid of him!â
We roll initiativeâŠ
Ahleqs goes first. After his customary scream, he casts Shatter. âThatâs a good spell! BLAM!â He throws his gang signs. It makes the save and takes five damage.
Kessler hits with her poisoned crossbow bolts. Carl makes an attempt to break free from the roperâs grapple, but fails. He makes a breathy, dusty, dry sound.
Gideon wants to cast something, and can do so while grappled, so he goes Fireball. âHow dextrous can it be? Itâs literally nailed in place!â
Joe: âYou say that; it rolled an 18.â
Gideon: âYou bitch!â
He hears other screams up there. âOh no, I think it might have fried our wizard!â He looks at the drift globe; it wants us to continue on through this cavern. He hasnât cooked our quarry. Phew. For some reason, we never follow up on the screams.
Tarragon runs up to Melaina to hit the tendril grappling her, but misses. Two more tendrils try to grapple her, but miss.
The tendril holding Ardvack lifts him higher, and the roper bites him for 19 piercing damage. Matthew, OOC: âI imagine you all see something pierce me and come out the back.â
Melaina tries to break free. âBazinga. Twelve! A mighty twelve.â The roper rolls a nine, so sheâs free! She moves away and hides - but just before she rolls to hide, she is told to hold that thought.
âI donât like the sound of that.â
Joe: âDoes 18 hit you?â
â*sigh* yes.â She takes four piercing damage, as a maggot type creature hangs from the ceiling onto her head, and gives it a good monch.
Sheâs at Disadvantage now, with her lovely slug hat.
Ardvack goes for a Shocking Grasp, but rolls a nat 1. (He is having yet another terrible day.) Crit fail magic macro: Not quite what I meant. The target of your spell becomes resistant to the damage type of the spell for 1 round.
Ahleqs makes a Perception check; âOhhhhh, God.â 15 - high on the ceiling above him he can hear shuffling sounds. He calls up: âNo, thank you.â He casts Fireball. The roper fails and takes 30 points of damage. âAnd is killed. And is killedâŠ?â
In the flash of the fireball, we see that some of the stalactites are quivering and shaking.
He rolls his d20, but is fine.
Carl is still grappled. He wants to grab hold of the tendril and pull back, digging his heels in and trying to pull it off the ceiling. He rolls high, but the roper rolls higher with a nat 20. Dammit.
Kessler shoots with her crossbow. A hit and a miss.
Another Piercer drops down and narrowly misses Ahleqs. He gives it a kick. Gideon is up. âWell then.â He does Aganazzarâs Scorcher again and hits. âI burn ye!â
Tarragon runs forward an smashes Ahleqsâ piercer with her quarterstaff, showering Ahleqs with goo. He uses Tides of Chaos on his Dex check and his hair falls out again. Tarragon heals Ardvack with Healing Word at third level, for which he is not grateful. A piercer falls on Tarragon and hits her for 4 damage, and then a tendril reaches down and grapples her.
Another tendril reaches down and misses Kessler. A third grabs for Ahleqs and gets him. Ardvack is bitten by the roper; he throws up his breakfast in its mouth. It reels Tarragon in.
âI hope I give you the shits!â
Ahleqs is hit by another piercer. âIt hits me square in my self.â
Melaina shoots for the roper. âBollocks. Eleven.â She bonus action hides again âSo that my worm friend doesnât see me.â
Ardvack casts Shillshsldgksdkghsdglhjjhh and bonus action Flaming Blades it. âThat much [damage].â Eighteen total, jabbing around in its gullet.
The stone part of the roper is cracking, and weeping some sort of ooze between the cracks.
A maggot drops past Kessler and splats on the floor. âI laugh.â
Ardvack: âQuick! Kessler, Animal Handling check! Make it a mount!â
Ahleqs: âFuck it, Iâm gonna do another Fireball.â The roper fails the save and takes 34 fire damage. âOooh, hello!â
It is pretty heinously wounded now, and it uses its reaction to drop everyone whoâs grappled. Ardvack and Tarragon are going to take some falling damage. Carl refuses to let go of it; he fully intends to pull the roper off the ceiling or pull the tendril off the roper.
Carl makes a STR check - an 11. âAwwww.â
Kessler shoots with her crossbow again - 17 misses, both times.
Gideon does Aganazzarâs Scorcher again, and the roper fails the save. How-de-do-dis!
âI scorch it like Doctor Octopusâ laser beam and it drops down but doesnât hit anyone - conveniently - and it plops down on the ground.â
We squish the remaining Piercers, as they canât do much once theyâve dropped. Carl uses one to kill another one.
Weâve solved Joeâs roper puzzle, but thereâs still no sign of Ava, or of the wizard.
We take a short rest, before we halt there for this week.

absolute top favourite tony h/c fic recs?
Thank you for the ask and sorry for taking so long to answer! I have a recommendation section here on my blog, but I extended it a bit and posted it below:
Catâs Tony hurt/comfort fic recs
Long works
If youâre up for a dark, violent, and incredibly touching and well written novel in which Tony and Peter are broken and put back together countless times, go for How to repair a broken heart by InfluentialPineapple. In my opinion, itâs one of the best pieces of literature ever written anywhere, even outside of the fanfic-realm. It describes a journey on which Tony and Peter slowly grow together, and although itÂŽs terribly sad and extremely whumpy, you can see the love the author has for their characters in every single line. Injury, illness, violence, torture, anxiety, PTSD, this oneÂŽs got everything, so please heed the TWs.
Dark Memories by @trammelsb: This story is centered around child (sexual) abuse. But it is so much more than Tony suffering through flashbacks and panic attacks (although there is a great deal of that) and being comforted by his team members, especially Bruce, his partner. It is about Tony going through a great deal of character development, learning that he is not to blame for what has happened. The author doesnÂŽt shy away from all the heavy topics, but she also never ceases to treat the characters with respect, In the end, it seems to be a story about not giving up, and despite all the pain it causes when you read it, the feeling that stays is that itÂŽs worth to keep fighting.
Arc Tremors by @rose-on-the-mountain: 44 epic chapters of Whump and the kind of fluff that is not fluffy at all, rather makes your heart overflow with emotions. ItÂŽs Avenger-family centric, including Pepper and Rhodey and wonderful robot characters, themed around an illness that forces Tony to go through a difficult heart procedure. Everyoneâs shadows and traumas get their due, and it balances darkness and light admirably well.
One Hell of a Show by MillyVeil: Clint and Tony get kidnapped and tortured. Heavily. This is one of the physically most brutal whump-fics I know - Milly is like the Tarantino of fan-fiction - but god, itÂŽs well done. TWs for detailed descriptions of rape and violence.
Resistance by thegraytigress: Tony and Steve are captured by the Kree and held in a concentration camp-like environment for months. This is a slow-built, well thought-through love story with a lot of pain and a deep exploration of TonyÂŽs and SteveÂŽs characters as well as their emerging relationship. It has one of the best and most realistic aftermaths to traumatic experiences that IÂŽve ever read. Itâs basically a book worth of heavy, heavy, heavy physical and emotional whump. Please mind the TWs.
Sheâs my Ride Home by OfMonstersAndMe: The most beautiful recount of how Nebulaâs and Tonyâs friendship develops in the 23 days they spent in space. Lots of great hurt/comfort scenes and spot-on characterisation.
450 Feet Under by Veldeia: Tony is trapped in a cave with no way out. The Avengers are on the way to get him, but when he gets seriously injured, the rescue mission becomes a race against time. 15 chapters of absolutely satisfying whump, snark, and feels. Background Stony. Simply brilliant!
Short(er) Works
Basically all Tony fics by @builder051â. I especially like this Pepperony Christmas fic and this Nat & Tony cave anxiety fic.
Strong Enough by Ranni: Steve, Tony, and Clint are held prisoner, but the real danger begins when their captors abandon the prison to let them die in their cells. Injuries, torture, pneunomia, great dialogues. Platonic relationships between the three men, really touching, but not cheesy. Ranni is one of my favourite writers, and all her other stories are equally intruiging. Monsters and Beloved Companion also have a lot of Tony Whump.
Five Times Bruce is Not That Kind of Doctorâą + One Time Heâs Perfect For the Job by @whumphoarder and @awesomesockes. The most amazing mix of humour and whump youâll ever find. I love all their fics, so some more of my Tony Whump faves are The After Party and Desperate Times.
@taylortut writes beautiful and touching fics in which Tony gets whumped around other Avengers. Mostly h/c with illness or injury (and some adorable daily-life drabbles). The stories are generally light-hearted, but not at all superficial. I still canÂŽt decide which one is my favorite because I love all of them, so IÂŽm putting up the general link to TaylorÂŽs Blog. Find her here on A03.
The Minor Fall, the Major Lift by sahiya: This one is about Bruce coming back to the compound after Civil War, trying to pick up TonyÂŽs broken pieces. It has the best characterization of Tony, Bruce and Rhodes IÂŽve seen in a while now. Everything about this fic seems fragile, the characters, the conversations, the shaky comfort they manage to build. ItÂŽs slow-paced, and itÂŽs not a fix-it-all, and this is what makes it so good. Sahiya is one of the best writers out there and her series âMe through Him to Youâ is printworthy.
Bruce and GooseÂŽs Truce by @twentyghostsâ: After Infinity War, Tony is saved from space. Bruce medically examines him while being heavily flirted at, then they bathe together, and Tony cries, and Bruce holds him tight. Everyone is more than a little broken, but itÂŽs okay, because they have each other back. More Tony Whump in Cold, Comfort and Unmasked.
nimentia by TinyFuryCloud: Tony and Steve have been married for more than 20 years when Tony is diagnosed with AlzheimerÂŽs disease. This story is so terribly well done. The whole process of Tony slowly disintegrating, slowly getting lost, but somehow, somewhere, still being Tony, is recounted in precise detail with just the right mixture of matter-of-fact descriptions and emotions. Also, A+ characterisation of everyone who is and was part of TonyÂŽs life, including Peter and Jarvis.
Hubris by @writingromanoffâ: Tony gets kidnapped and tortured by Justin Hammer. Tortured, as in forced to walk for days and days in the desert without a drop of water, and thatÂŽs just the beginning. When Steve finally shows up, Tony doesnÂŽt even know whether heÂŽs real anymore. I still canÂŽt decide whether the whump or the whumpÂŽs aftermath is better in this one, both are very well described. Heed the TWs (torture and humiliation, obviously, as well as ED behaviour and others). By the same author: somno, the best concussion fic in the universe, and Blue Lips, Blue Veins, which is on some other level of genius alltogether.
Just a rather very intelligent system by @darkestsightâ: Seven instances of Jarvis taking control over the suit and saving TonyÂŽs ass without anyone noticing. Not all of them are sickfics. Chapter 3 is my personal favorite and contains a physically and emotionally beaten-down and extremely tired Tony; chapter 5 has him dealing with PTSD and chapters 6 and 7 involve him getting injured. I liked the idea of it and enjoyed the interactions between Tony and Jarvis.
Pressure Point by ratherastory: Another migraine fic, with a very precise description of the pain TonyÂŽs in and a nice amount of Starkasm. Steve as caretaker. Can be read as Stony, but doesnâ t have to. Pain and vomiting.
Home by @saber-wingâ: All Tony wanted was a cup of coffee. But then Thorâs Asgardian monster pet decides to try and eat Tonyâs leg for breakfast. Excellent whump, Avengers family feels and a lot of humour. The author has many more amazing whump fics!
I CanÂŽt Exactly Hold Your Hair Back by SirSapling: This is based on the comics and not the movies. It features Tony with cancer and Steve taking care of him on one of his bad days. I like this one for its slow whump build-up. Stony. Tags for migraine, vomiting, mentions of cancer.
Bust a gut, Tones by @whimsicalethnographies: Tony has appendicitis and Peter is the only one who realises it. Perfectly balances between humour and seriousness.
Foolâs Luck by @msermesth: Steve arrives on his doorstep exactly three hours and twenty-seven minutes after Tony finishes the last word of his eulogy. LOTS of pain. TW alcohol abuse, angst and suicidal thoughts. This is short, but extremely well done.
donât let the blue skies fade by @blancheludis: This starts as a mission-gone-wrong fic with a perfect whump setting (of course Tony has to hide his injuries from everyone) and character depth that focuses on team dynamics and the evolving relationship between Tony and Steve.
Side Effects by discipulapauper: Steve and Tony are stuck in the desert, and Tony discovers that the serum causes unexpected complications when Steve doesnÂŽt get food and water for a long timeâŠNice whump scenes, good characterization and mostly non-cheesy, non-stony dialogue. Featuring heat stroke symptoms and hallucinations.
Presenteeism by Veldeia: Tony thinks it is a good idea to send an empty suit along with the team on a mission while riding out his hangover alone somewhere in the middle of Russian nowhere. Too bad his hangover turns out to be something worseâŠ
MohiniÂŽs prompt fill for Nov(emeto)ber 5 by @mohini-musingâ: Tony is sick and Bucky doesnÂŽt really know how to handle it. A short but greatly written fic with emeto and fever, no WinterIron.
My own fics : 40+ stories of physically and/or emotionally hurt or sick Tony

The Report Card â Fantasy High Sophomore Year Ep 19
The Ties That Bind
The penultimate Fantasy High: Sophomore Year episode is upon us and not a moment too soon. Seems a little counter-intuitive to seek comfort from these objectively wild current events weâre experiencing from a fictional Nightmare Forest but we know what weâre about so letâs jump back in and start with the death of a beloved main character.
Yay.
Rewinding back to two episodes ago, last we saw Kristen, she got stabbed through by a skeletal unicorn and died. We pick back up there and, as sheâs dying, she feels a sense of pain, betrayal, and anger--very similar emotions to what Brennan told her the goddess was feeling with her Nat 20 Religion Check. Kristen gets a vision of the goddess being destroyed in cracks of lightning by her own followers--the same vision Fig saw in the dream scrying pool when she scry-ed on Kristen last week--and then she wakes up on the chapel floor.
Sheâs not...dead exactly. But sheâs not super alive either. Sheâs bleeding, but more oozing blood than the normal mechanical way of bleeding out because her heart isnât beating. Thereâs a hole in her chest and, within it, her heart is crushed. Her skin is pale because the blood isnât pumping through it properly anymore. Her breathing isnât regular. And a piece of her finger tip (the piece taken by her friends for a possible Revivify) is missing.
She sees evidence of her friends having been in the room--footprints and the smashed wall--and to place this in the timeline, she canât remember Fabian right now. When she checks her crystal, she sees itâs been 90 minutes since they walked into the forest. She does Cure Wounds on herself to stop the blood from dripping. Then she heads out towards the forest, passing the Oracular Pool Fig used in the last episode as she goes. She stops as she sees it and something in her heart glows with golden light. When she looks into the pool, she sees the sun reflected in the pool (and also Figâs boot prints leading up to it). Thatâs weird because it is super not a Sol/Helio aligned Chapel/Area theyâre in. She also sees the moon reflected and she feels like sheâs being called in. It doesnât necessarily feel safe but it feels like she might get some answers and also she already died today so how much worse can it get? She dives in and come up and when she does, sheâs suddenly in the outer planes. Specifically, sheâs in Elysium which is like the Neutral Good heaven. She hears a voice that she mistakes for her dadâs because of the major dad energy sheâs getting from it: You can come home.
As she walks, she finds herself--as Kristen weirdly often does for some reason--in the presence of gods. Specifically, Sol (god of the Sun) and Galakaya (goddess of the Moon and his sister as we find out). Helio is also there, like the screw-up son of a CEO, hanging out in his office. Both of them are good gods but not neutral good so Kristen gets the sense that they brought her here to have a neutral place to talk to her.Â
Kristen is hilariously nonplussed by being personally Uber-d to heaven by arguably the biggest gods in the pantheon and when she is asked to take a walk with Helio so she can get some important information, sheâs like, âNooooo, can literally anyone else do it?â Galakaya agrees to do it instead.Â
They take a lap and she asks about Tracker. Galakaya says that Tracker isnât dead but sheâs in major danger. Then, she changes the subject. Has Kristen ever wondered where her spells have been coming from when sheâs been between gods? Because, as Galakaya says, doubt is nothing. She reveals that even though Kristen rejected him, Helio has been providing Kristen spells this entire time. He sent the philosophers and the grad students to be her spirit guardians. Kristen rejected him but not the light. Galakaya likens it to a child running away from home to the front yard. Kristen isnât too far gone. She can still come back to the fold. And, if she doesnât want to be Helioâs champion, she can be hers instead and become a Moon Cleric, which would still be keeping it in the family. But thatâs the problem Kristen has with it. Helio to Galakaya? It seems like more of the same--especially the way sheâs been acting, like she would fit right in at a brunch table with Arianwyn and Anguin. Except, when Tracker comes up, Kristen notices she gets a little snarly, almost like a tic sheâs trying to keep under control.Â
Kristen asks for her pitch, and itâs basically the same deal she was getting with Helio but with different window dressing. The Moon, sisterhood, and unquestioning obedience. Galakaya canât see into Sylvere to check on Tracker like Kristen asks but if she had a Champion, say Kristen, she could send her all kitted up with new powers. She says she wants the Nightmare King dead more than anyone seeing as the Nightmare King killed her baby sister (the Mystery Goddess). She calls her baby sister sweet and sometimes confused, seeing as she thought destroying her name would make her more powerful. But Kristen knows thatâs not what happened. It was her followers who destroyed her name as she desperately warned them not to. Some chicanery is going on.
She says she will take the job as Galakayaâs champion and when she makes like sheâs going to pray to her to seal the deal, she instead reaches out to the mystery goddess again. The golden light in her chest disappears and is replaced with cool shadow. She feels shock from the goddess, that Kristen would still choose to reach out to her after she died at her hand. The goddess says, emotionally, âIâm sorry, Iâm just so scar--â But, before she can finish the word, Galakaya grabs Kristen by the shoulder and snaps her out of it, face snarling and wolfed out. After a second, she composes herself and seems almost embarrassed that Kristen saw that, which makes Kristen realize whatâs going on with her. Tracker is a cleric of Galakaya, but knowing Tracker, she wouldnât worship someone so reeking of high elven prim and proper-ness. And she also knows what the number one rule of godhood is: As above, so below. Galakaya has basically been claimed as a high elven goddess. Which means that the vast majority of her followers arenât like Tracker. Theyâre snooty high elves. Which means so is she and her wolf part is still there, but itâs buried and distasteful to her now.Â
Which, coincidentally, is how Kristen feels about this entire godly family. She ârespectfully declinesâ both of their offers. And by ârespectfully declinesâ I mean she socks Helio in the face and makes a run for it. Sol, full of rage, says, âI told you that kid was trash! Now get her!â The philosophers on Solâs payroll look at each other and instead mob him (why is the literal sun god so easy to 1v1?) and help Kristen escape. As she does, Helio calls out after Kristen something she kind of already sensed upon arriving in Elysium. Most people are a soul in a body. But Kristen, at the moment, is a soul *as* a body. If she dies again, with no god to intercede for her, sheâs dead-dead. No afterlife. But thatâs not enough to make her stay. She keeps running and makes it to the pool. For the first time, she feels herself fully cut off from her spells.Â
Back in the cave in Sylvere, Kristen chats with the Philosophers. They tell her they were working for Sol so they couldnât tell her what the deal was but they were always rooting for her. One of the philosophers quotes her own words back to her: Doubt canât be a belief but it can be a practice. And as she says this, she turns Kristenâs Shepherd's Crook cool and metallic and turns it into a question mark. She canât hold doubt in her heart but she can hold it in her hand (stats for the Staff of Doubt below; also what a sick line from Brennan).
She knows that to get to the center of the forest where she needs to be, she has to follow her fear, so she goes in the direction she doesnât expect to find Tracker.Â
Shifting gears, we find Gorgug and Fabian at the mouth of the cave (and no longer high on duskmoss) in their floating rock island surrounded by the others. They see that there are other openings and decide to check them to see if they can find any of their friends. They spend a good two hours, tied together and climbing this rock face which is some extremely solid male bonding. When they reach the cave they were aiming for, they find Baxter, riddled with arrows they know to be Sandra-Lynnâs. Heâs dying but not dead. I am outraged at Brennan until I learn a fact that I donât think has come up until now: Artificers get spell slots. Which means that Gorgug has Cure Wounds. He only cures him for 3 points but thatâs enough to stabilize him at least so we can all stop sharpening the pitchforks. However, Baxter is clearly dejected and confused. He has no idea why Sandra-Lynn would suddenly turn on him. So maybe the pitchforks are still called for.
They want to leave Baxter in the cave so he can rest up but, on a 1 Animal Handling, Baxter absolutely demands to follow them. Itâs faster than climbing at least. They do so.
And we switch again, this time to the Abernants.Â
Adaine is still trapped in a prison orb and barred from doing most of her spells. She can, however, do the Message cantrip and Aelwyn is still in the room along with Anguin. She Messages Aelwyn and asks, Whatâs going on? Why is she working with their parents still? Aelwyn replies that she doesnât like her parents but she does love them. Doesnât Adaine? âThey donât love me,â Adaine shoots back. Aelwyn parrots back ideology that sheâs clearly learned from her parents: Love has to be earned. What value does something that hasnât been earned have? Adaine, fresh off of therapy and with full knowledge of Aelwynâs broken psyche, fully calls her out. She is so closed off to love, to everything that abjuration is her school of magic. Aelwyn tries to wave her off but Adaine, very seriously, says, âI donât love our parents but despite the fact that you have not earned it, I do love you.â Aelwyn fully dissociates (and Iâm not far behind).Â
Adaine notices that Anguin is readying some kind of Sending spell and that heâs wearing a sword that he usually doesnât have. He tells Aelwyn to ransack her sisterâs brain for the info they need from her while he prepares her punishment. Aelwyn, clearly in a slight panic, tries to (not at all) casually persuade Anguin to just leave Adaine in the orb, unharmed, when they are done with her. She tries to do it in a, âThis isnât worth our time,â kind of way but betrays herself when she blurts out, âSheâs a baby!â Anguin raises a hand at her and she flinches, apologetically casting Detect Thoughts on Adaine who has already (via Message) said sheâd support her no matter what she did.Â
Enter, Adaineâs Mindscape: A series of interconnected rooms--and her Aelwynâs rooms--repeated over and over. Adaine has her surface thoughts be all of her memories of Aelwyn *almost* being nice to her and then pulling back at the last second for fear of her parents. Aelwyn doesnât press deeper than these thoughts and says that if Adaineâs goal was to humiliate her then sheâs done so. But thatâs not what Adaine wants. She wants to rebuild their relationship. Theyâre gonna be sisters for the rest of their quasi-immortal lives. These memories suck but they can make new ones.
And then, through a window, Aelwyn sees another memory. The memory of herself in the hot-tub post Calethriel Tower rescue mission. She doesnât remember this because of the events in the memory itself. Adaine went into her mind and, at her written instructions, reboot her memory and personality. Theyâre able to Inception themselves into Adaineâs memory of Aelwynâs mind and they walk through it. Aelwyn is confronted with the knowledge that this is how she is and that Adaine knows this. Siobhan, from her sniper perch, gets the kill order from Brennan to take the shot directly into my chest.
âWould you be my big sister? I would really, really love to have you as a big sister.â
So now itâs both Kristen and me who have crushed hearts this episode.Â
Aelwyn fully loses concentration on the spell and snaps out of it. When Anguin asks for the information, she, on full glassy-eyed autopilot, says she didnât find it. Anguin decides to go for the nuclear option, readying a bolt of magic to throw at Adaine. âPrepare to be better, dear, sweet daughter.â
The magic races at her, ready to do something Stepford-ian to her mind Iâm sure, but, suddenly, Aelwyn steps forward, still out of it but following her true, deeply buried but natural protective instincts. Protective magic covers Adaine and the spell is Counterspelled.Â
Adaine quickly dispels her orb but then itâs Anguinâs turn and he goes for Aelwyn. Adaine attempts to return the favor she has just been given and Counterspells but Anguin Counterspells her Counterspell and Lightning Bolts Aelwyn. The second before sheâs hit, Aelwyn looks at Adaine and says, âIâm sorryâ. She goes down.Â
Adaineâs turn.
And, if you recall, Adaine just received two boons: A bonus to her Strength score and a little spell called Adaineâs Furious Fists.Â
And, my dude, if Adaine has ever been furious in her life, itâs now.Â
5th Level. And itâs a strength saving throw but, just to be certain of her success, Adaine gives her undoubtedly weak father her 4 Portent roll. Thatâs 10d10 damage.
77 points of damage.
She charges forward at Anguin.
âGuess what bitch? Iâm strong now.â    Â
And she full Dragon Ball Z energy punches her dad, dealing more than double his max HP. You know what that means? Ding Dong the bitch is FULLY DEAD.Â
Deed done, she rushes to Aelwynâs side and gives her her 11 portent roll for her first death save (super clutch use of a mediocre portent). Then, on an 18 Medicine check, stabilizes her without the need for any more checks. Aelwyn is immediately weepy about how she doesnât deserve the kindness sheâs being shown. Adaine, again, gently says that love isnât about deserving or not deserving, though she definitely doesnât deserve the crappy situation sheâs in right now. And, maybe when this is over, she can exchange her bed for a bunk bed and Aelwyn can move in? If Aelwyn wasnât crying before, she super is now, and spilling her guts. Sheâs the one who sank she ship the previous elven oracle was on, she worked for Kalvaxus and Kalina--things Adaine is willing to attribute to being under the thumb of evil, abusive people but that Aelwyn seems desperate to atone for. She gives Adaine an important piece of information for their mission: In the past, heroes going after the Nightmare King have failed because they failed to undo all five curses. They need to make sure they do that.
Adaine gives Aelwyn the tincture she has on her, freeing her from Kalinaâs influence, and then Aelwyn gives her one more piece of information before she slips into unconsciousness. Before Aelwyn had the previous Oracle killed, she was sure that Adaine was going to be the next Oracle and she told Kalvaxus that. Why was she sure? Because the elf that becomes the next Oracle is always the most skilled Diviner alive at the time.
âI love you too,â Adaine replies.
Then she nicks the dope sword (and 30 gp) off her dadâs corpse, leaves Aelwyn there to rest, and goes to find her friends.
And, speaking of, letâs pop over to see how Riz and Fig are doing.  Â
In a word, bad.
Theyâre still tied up and cornered by the skeletal unicorn who says theyâre captured and soon their friends will be too. Nightmare Fig shows up with Baby (who is shortly tied up as well) and reveals herself to actually be this many-armed, snake-woman demon. A whole army of demons show up, ready to start wrecking house as soon as theyâre ordered to.Â
Fig wants to try and use her lighter to set her bonds on fire and Riz wants to use his spy-watch to laser her bonds off. They both fail but Riz notices theyâre not being stopped from trying. Itâs like the demons want them to escape so they have an excuse to chase and kill them. He also notices a jiggling from his briefcase.
At the same time, Fig gets a Sending from Bill saying he just hawked all of Gorthalxâs stuff, including the six suits of magic armor. But, wait a minute. There were seven suits. On a Nat 1, she thinks Bill is screwing her over.
But then.
All of a sudden.Â
Rizâs briefcase of holding springs open and out pops a figure in gleaming gold Pride Armor. The armored figure, holding a brilliantly gold halberd, cleaves through some demons and the raises his visor showing that itâs none other than the chosen one himself--GILEAR! You see, the Deadly Sin armor feeds on its respective sin in the user and consumes them, but, as Gilear puts it, he has no pride.Â
He absolutely wrecks house, killing demon after demon. Riz records it on his tie-camera for posterity. Gorgug and Fabian on Baxter see the commotion and fly down, seeing the tail end of the fight. Gilear kills the last of the demons then gets spit out of the armor like itâs an Iron Man suit, fully dead. Again. He may have had no pride when he put the armor on but watching himself kick ass have him just enough to be fatal.
Fig gets free from her bindings and, on a 27 with Bardic from Fabian, beats the 25 DC she needs to make an illusory diamond (which turns into a real one) of high enough quality to cast Revivify. She does so, after a heartfelt statement about being proud to be like him and a sick lick on her bass.
Gilear comes back up and we learn that heâd been hiding in RIzâs briefcase with the armor since they sent him away because it was the only way he could think of to be useful to them and protect Fig. Fabian and Riz (along with the audience) also unfortunately learn that Gilear is hung like a horse when they fail their saves to look away quickly enough.Â
Adaine rushes in with her new sword and the information that she killed her dad which everyone congratulates her for. She then ritual casts Identify on the sword. Aelwyn told her earlier that itâs the sword that belongs to whoever the current Oracle is and she also learns itâs called the Sword of Sight, it can be used as an arcane focus, and was made by Fabianâs Grandad (full stats below).Â
Riz gets the footage from his tie onto his crystal and posts it on Figâs account which has got to be the wildest social media account on Magic Facebook.
The Bad Kids are mainly reunited, but letâs get back to the final missing member.Â
Kristen, alone in the woods, starts using her blood to draw a picture of the Mystery goddess. She hears a creepy voice say, âBe careful what you give a face,â and some other ominous stuff. But Kristen ignores it as she lies prostrate in front of her drawing because she understands something extremely important.Â
As above, so below.
Galakaya is worshiped primarily by stuck up high elves, so she has become that.
If Kristen is now the only follower of the Mystery goddess and she says that sheâs real and sheâs good then as above, so below. The math checks out.
The bloody image changes to a beautiful womanâs face. The Mystery goddess. She says she only ever wanted to comfort her followers and tell them that the night itself was nothing to fear. Kristen sees flashes of the chained Court of Elders--the representatives of the five races who worshiped the Mystery Goddess and were convinced to destroy her name (ignoring her warnings not to). Among them are the unicorn and the decaying elf Adaine saw in her Scry.Â
Fear of the NK breaks her out of the vision and she finds herself surrounded by Twilight (that sheâs generating) with Tracker in front of her, fully wolfed out with a bloody muzzle. Tracker is going feral, all, âYouâre so selfish, everything is always about you.â Something is going wrong with her. Now, good news/bad news:
Good News: Kristen is fully committed to this Mystery Goddess so she gets her spells back and she is now a Twilight Domain Cleric.
Bad News: She goes Invisible (eliciting a, âWhy are you running? I knew you would leave me. Why wonât you accept me like I am?â from Tracker) and tries to cast Greater Restoration but all she needs is a 4 and she rolls a 3. Tragic.Â
She finds that she is insubstantial still and is whisked away from a snarling and lamenting Tracker. As she is traveling, she sees the face of the Nightmare King who asks why she would follow a dead goddess whose path is just going to make her life harder. Kristen feels a pang of doubt and fear that she has just done exactly what her religious upbringing warned her against and put herself and her friends in grave danger for no reason by straying from the path, but then she has another classic Kristen-ism: Everyone is basic and wrong. Sheâd rather follow a goddess who is like, âHey yâall, I also donât have it all figured out but I will for sure do all I can to help you navigate it,â than a god who demands unquestioning faith and loyalty. And with that, she finds herself floating above her friends.
She feels the pull of her missing finger bone in Adaineâs pocket and she feels like it might be impossible for her to fully, properly, come back but on the other hand, sheâs died like three times at this point. What does impossible even mean? She gets the sense that she can cast Raise Dead on herself and she does so.Â
Welcome back to the Bad Kids, St. Kristen Applebees of [REDACTED], halo aglow, newly reattached finger shedding a bit of light.
(âThatâs hot for being gay,â Ally says about Kristenâs new glow.)
Everyone hugs everyone and catches up everyone on everything. Kristen heals up Baxter for 20 HP and gets a +2 bump on her Intelligence mod for her ordeals in the forest. They all make a plan to get everyone in one place so Kristen can put some of her new AoE healing spells to use. Fig wants to go on Baxter to get Ayda. Adaine, bringing us full circle, invites Fabian on a rescue mission to get her sister.Â
And we take a break.Â
Deep breath yâall.Â
Detention
Brennan for Cursing us With Knowledge About Gilearâs Penis
@allsevenmaidens put this very reasonable request in and I have to concur because whatâs the alternative? Giving Anguin this spot AGAIN? Like, I donât even want to give him the satisfaction of being the best of the worst. Adaine gave him the death penalty which is what he deserves and all heâs gonna get.Â
So, Brennan gets this spot for forcing me to hear the words âGilearâ and âhung like a horseâ in the same sentence. Â
Honor Roll
Gilear for Kicking SERIOUS Ass
Listen, SO many Honor Roll-worthy moments happened this episode. Kristenâs Amazing As Above, So Below moment. Aelwyn finally stepping up to protect Adaine. Adaine absolutely obliterating Anguin in a single punch.Â
But, at the end of the day, I have to give it to Gilear âJust a Guyâ Faeth for cramming himself and a suit of cursed armor into a mostly airless briefcase out of desperate need to do whatever he could to help protect his daughter and her friends who are basically demigods. He truly is the Anti-Anguin and Iâm so glad Riz got that on tape for posterity. Way to go man.Â
Random Thoughts
I already wrote so many words and we have a five hour finale tomorrow so Iâm going to try and keep this section brief.Â
Weâre staring down the barrel of the last episode (coming Friday at 8PM EST) and I want to say this now rather than later: thanks for reading these and leaving nice comments in the tags and stuff like that. Iâm not always the most confident person and the support really means a lot.
Weâre also staring down the barrel of a global crisis right now so, you know, be nice to yourself and escape through fiction when you need to, reach out to people, and eat a vegetable if you can. Read a 5000 word recap of an episode you presumably already watched. Whatever you need to do.
The Staff of Doubt has ten charges and can cast the following spells at the cost of the amount of charges listed: Detect Magic (1), Lesser Restoration (2), Dispel Magic (3), Banishment (4), Greater Restoration (5).
The Sword of Sight gives +1 to attack and damage rolls. It gives a base 12 AC which bumps Adaineâs to 15. It lets her cast Divination cantrips as bonus actions. She gets to take the Dodge action when she casts a Divination spell. And she gets no disadvantage on attacks on Invisible creatures (seems very useful against Kalina possibly).  Â
EDIT: I forgot to say! Gorgug saying very sincerely to Kristen, âIâm sorry I wasnât there,â âthereâ being, âat her most recent deathâ broke me.Â
Where in the World is Ragh Backrock? We have at least an approximate idea of where the rest of the hirelings are but nothing on Ragh. Iâm concerned. His vision was asking Gorgug if he was his dad. Maybe it has something to do with that?
Very curious about what the mechanics of the final confrontation will be. What Aelwyn said seems like it could be setting up for some shenanigans. Plus, there are still all the hirelings to worry about. Â
Another question, I feel like we still have almost no idea whatâs going on with the NK. Half of me is almost expecting some kind of Te Fiti/Te Ka situation. On another day I might try to speculate and play detective but thatâs not where Iâm at today so Iâm just gonna leave it at that.
I feel like Kristen is always negging deities to their faces. Like, girl. Her Axe/Dove metaphor was *chefâs kiss* though. Anyway, when (hopefully) Tracker is back to normal, I hope Kristen has a take thatâs different than, âI met your goddess and she sucked.â
Kristen makes me feel bad for Helio. Heâs just a surfer dude who likes corn, OK. He never did anything to her except give her magic!Â
Didnât have a good place to mention this earlier but Fig alerted Bill to their situation and location so if thereâs a Bill Ex-Machina next ep, itâs not out of nowhere.Â
(Also, just a small point of order, Gorgug did say he had a bone from Kristen last ep but so did Adaine. Doesnât really matter but just wanted to explain the mismatch with my last recap).Â
Making everyone roll a save to not see Gilearâs dick is so funny. As was Zac invoking danger sense to roll with advantage.Â
âI cast Spare the Dying on Gilearâs Penis.â
âI am no man,â from LOTR but instead itâs Gilear saying, âI have no pride.â
âDrink deeply Gilear.â
Why is Kalina working for the NK? Sheâs supposed to be the Mystery Goddessâs familiar, right? Just another thing that doesnât add up. Whereâs that puzzle piece weâre missing?
The thought of Baxter being so confused and dejected and fatally injured, not understanding what he did so wrong to have his mistress riddle him with arrows makes me wanna throw down with Brennan IRL. Also, Iâm Concerned about Sandra-Lynn. Â
I need to say this on the record. Ally Beadsley does some bonkers things in D&D that I could not even begin to understand but that As Above So Below Gambit was Galaxy Brained.Â
You knew this was coming. Abernant Time Bay-Bee (the abridged version because I need to get this out before Friday)!
First off, I am very happy to say that basically exactly what I predicted/hoped for in my last recap for this scene is what happened, with Anguin making Aelwyn cast Detect Thoughts on Adaine. And basically EVERYTHING I had on my Abernant Sisters Reconciliation checklist was checked. The Detect Thoughts. The pointing out that theyâre gonna live for a long time and do they want to do it at each other's throats? Aelwyn finally stepping up to the plate and leaning into her Abjurative Instincts in a positive way and shielding Adaine from their father. And then the stuff that I wanted so bad but didnât know it. The bunk beds moment? The âI love you tooâ moment. âSheâs a baby!â I mean, âWill you be my big sister?â F off Siobhan. That was beautiful.Â
A little concerned about Adaine having left Aelwyn unconscious so close to where their mom is but I am glad she remembered to cure her of Kalina.Â
When Brennan said, âIn Aelwynâs last moment,â for a second I thought he meant she was about to be perma-dead and my heart legit stopped.Â
I was up until about 2 AM last night, popping bottles with @camwritery (my Abernant Sisters confidant) about Brennan and Siobhan giving us everything we wanted and Iâm going to get yelled at by her if I donât mention something I said while we were talking. Last week, during the fireside chat, all of the players talked about what future lives/jobs theyâd want for their characters. I posited the same question for Aelwyn and offered my answer--CPS Case Worker. Because, like, think about it. She is an extremely protective person. She wants to atone for what she did and failed to do for Adaine. When she gets all the therapy she needs, sheâs going to be equipped with deep, personal knowledge of what abuse looks like/what it can do to a child and an extremely long lifespan. Canât you see an adult Aelwyn, in the living room of a well appointed house, speaking cordially to some high class A-hole with his terrified kid sitting next to him, trying not to say anything or do anything that will get them punished and Aelwyn does a surface level Detect Thoughts at the same time so she can mentally kneel before the kid and tell them, âIâm on your side. You can be honest with me. Iâm here to protect you. I promise. Donât be scared.â This is all I want for her. Â
This episode Fig rolled one Nat 1 and Gorgug rolled two but one was cancelled with advantage. No Nat 20s were rolled.   Â
#fantasy high#fantasy high spoilers#dimension 20#dimension 20 spoilers#fantasy high live#(kind of a rush job bc the next ep is so soon so def hit up my asks if I missed s/t you wanted to hear about)

One Chicago Promo #2
I had a lot of fun breaking down the first promo we got so Iâm going to do this one as well. This one dropped on the One Chicago twitter account this morning (for me) and is about a minute long (compared to the first one which was only like 20 seconds).
So we open with Dr Charles walking with a crying woman into the ED, and a Boden voice over playing.
Boden voice over:Â âWhen this community hurts...â
Cut to black, words âNov 11âł appear on screen.
Cut to Ruzek reaching out to touch Atwater, looks like they are on scene somewhere (note: this is different to the Ruzwater scene in the first promo which was in a hallway). Also interesting note: it looks like Atwater has blood or something on his face - unknown if this is his or someone elseâs. Both are wearing bullet proof vests.
Boden voice over:Â â... when it reaches out itâs hand...â
Cut to a screen with words âWednesdayâs Most Watched Dramasâ.
Cut to Severide carrying an unconscious woman on a fire scene.
Boden:Â â... we pull it to itâs feet.â
Cut to Boden sitting in his office, Severide can just be seen in the background.
Cut to word âReturnâ on screen.
Cut to a scene of 51 responding to a fire.
Boden:Â âAnd we respond.â
Cut to Cruz standing on a fire scene, in full gear and mask. He yells, âLetâs go, letâs go, letâs go.â
Cut to a brief clip of Voight exiting his car.
Cut to Casey and other firefighters (presumably from 51 but we canât really see specifically who it is) about to enter a building.
Cut to Mouch opening the door to the building and flames jump out at him.
Cut to a brief shot of a helicopter over Chicago.
Cut to Crockett, Ethan, Capp, and another unidentified doctor running together, presumably on an accident scene because all are in scrubs and turnout gear.
Cut to a three-way split screen, brief clip of Dr Charles, Will, and Natalie (left to right).
Cut to the word âMedâ on screen.
Cut to Will, Ethan, and April wheeling a patient out of an ambulance (entrance to ED can be seen in background.
Cut to Ethan walking through the ED in full gown, mask, and cap.
Cut to Ethan and April standing together in the ED (interesting note: both are wearing blue scrubs as opposed to their usual maroon)
Ethan:Â â-Iâm just worried about you.â
April:Â âThey are sick...â
Cut to a shot of a patient in a bed.
April voice over:Â â... they are frightened...â
Cut back to April and Ethan.
April:Â â...and they are alone.â
Cut to April standing in a trauma bay in full hazmat gear. Ethan can be seen watching her from outside the bay.
April, voice over:Â âIâm not abandoning them.â
Cut to a closer shot of Ethanâs face.
Cut to a three-way split screen, brief clip of Boden, Casey, and Sylvie (left to right).
Cut to word âFireâ on screen.
Cut to Severide in turn out gear with water dripping off his helmet.
Cut to extremely brief clip of a firefighter in the middle of a blaze (I think itâs Stella but itâs very brief).
Cut to a shot of a doorway on fire.
Cut to a firefighter (I believe itâs Severide) on the ground in a hazy, smoke-filled room. No mask or helmet on.
Stella, voice over:Â âSeveride!â
Cut to Stella crouching down in the middle of a fire.
Cut to shot of a firefighter helping another downed firefighter (presumably Stella helping Severide).
Boden, voice over:Â âYou are the very definition-â
Cut to Stella in the fire surrounded by other firefighters.
Boden, voice over:Â â- of a leader.â
Cut to Stella standing with Boden in his office.
Boden:Â âItâs time everyone got to see it.â
Cut to Severide and another unidentified firefighter (he has 51 on his helmet so he could be an extra from Engine) helping a burned victim out of a building.
Cut to Sylvie driving (maybe the ambo - not completely sure as something about it doesnât like quite like the ambo to me).
Cut to Sylvie and Mackey entering a living room of an unidentified house. There is a man lying on the couch.
Sylvie:Â âCFD paramedics!â
Cut to an unidentified man approaching Sylvie and Mackey from behind, and putting a gun to Sylvieâs head. The click is audible. Sylvie gasps but stays still, Mackey looks around at him.
Cut to a different angle, Sylvie is looking up at the man with the gun still pointed at her.
Cut to a three-way split screen, brief clip of Burgess, Atwater, and Upton (left to right).
Cut to the word âP.D.â on screen.
Cut to a clip of Atwater, Ruzek, and Burgess standing on scene.
Cut to a clip of Atwater walking alone down a hallway.
Cut to Voight and Micheal Doyle (Tom Doyleâs father) talking in the street.
Doyle:Â âHe snitched on the police. Heâs gotta pay the price.â
Cut to Atwater. He is out of uniform, exiting a car with his hands raised, while a uniformed police officer has a gun pulled on him.
Cut to Voight and Atwater sitting in Voightâs office.
Voight:Â âTakes a lot of guts to stand up for what you believe in.â
Cut to a shot of Voight standing in the street wearing his bullet proof vest.
Cut to Atwater sitting at a table with an unidentified man.
Atwater:Â âJust trying to do the right thing.â
Cut to Hailey and Jay walking up an alley together.
Cut to Jay busting down a door.
Cut to the word âTogetherâ on screen.
Cut to a shot of the Med cast, but focused on Will and Nat.
Cut to the words âWe Areâ on screen.
Cut to a shot of the Fire cast, focused on Boden and Stella.
Cut to the word âStrongerâ on screen.
Cut to Atwater walking alone in a parking garage.
Cut to Atwater confronting Doyle outside somewhere. Doyle is walking away while Atwater follows.
Atwater:Â âIf Iâm the one you want then come for me!â
Cut to a different angle. Doyle has turned around and is facing Atwater again.
Doyle:Â âIâm gonna keep coming for you until I have your badge.â
Cut to shot from last season of Atwater standing in the streets while the police cars drive off around him.
So there we go, thatâs our second One Chicago promo gearing up for the showâs coming back on the 11th. I donât think it gives us anything massively new but rather confirms what the main focus of each show is going to be for the upcoming (and rather reduced) seasons. But like I did with my last post, Iâm gonna break down some interesting notes (Iâll put them under the cut because I had more thoughts that I expected and this post is long enough):
So like the last one this one contains some presumably old-ish footage. It isnât really a big deal, just moments like Severide carrying the unconscious woman, the shot of Burgess, Ruzek, and Atwater standing together at a scene, patients getting wheeled into the ED. They look older and a lot of people have speculated that theyâre from past seasons and Iâm inclined to think so too. It doesnât really mean anything or matter just interesting to note. They were probably put in to pad out the run time of the promo a bit without giving too much away of the new seasons.
We got the same voiceover from Boden from the last promo which really emphasises the idea of community and connecting with community that I think all three shows (but particularly Med and possibly Fire) are going to focus on in s6, 8, and 9.
We get a new shot of Ruzek and Atwater, different to the one we got in the last promo. Doesnât really confirm anything of course, but it does make me wonder if weâre going to get some serious Ruzwater friendship moments, which Iâm always down for.
And another interesting thing to speculate about is the blood we can kind of see on Kevâs face in that shot. Itâs hard to tell but it looks to me as though heâs been in a fight or an altercation so I wonder if thatâs a result of a confrontation with Michael Doyle.
Another short clip that I really found interesting was that short one of Capp, Ethan, and Crockett all running together. Itâs kind of hard to explain without the visual aide of the video but between Capp being there and how itâs set up it definitely looks like a Fire call that maybe they called for extra medical assistance on, hence Ethan and Crockett being there. Now Iâm not 100% sure so if someone can confirm that would be great but this looks new to me. I donât remember anything like this from last season. So it looks like weâre going to get Ethan and Crockett scenes outside of the hospital which makes me wonder what theyâre relationship will be like considering how it was left in s5 considering the April of it all. Iâm sure weâll get something from them at some point during the season, I just wonder if them being away from the hospital and therefor April will have an effect. Of course if this is them on a mini crossover with Fire then we probably wonât get that in that specific scene, but again this is all very speculative.
So from this promo it definitely seems to me like April and Ethan dealing with the COVID of it all is going to be something that either brings them together or drives them apart for good. We get that exchange between them, and then we get Ethan watching her with a patient, and idk if itâs just me, but Ethan seemed worried for her. So I do wonder if going through this, especially because it seems like itâs going to be primarily those two (along with Lanik) that are on the front lines of COVID, is going to be something that mends the relationship between them. Iâm not necessarily against a Sextoi reunion, but Iâm also not excited for it if it means more bullshit like s5. If theyâre going to do it, they better do it right.
In that same vein, I donât know about anyone else but this promo definitely makes me think that Stellaâs potential promotion is going to be a big thing this season. We get Boden telling her sheâs a leader, we see her rescuing Severide I believe during a call, we get a shot of her and Boden together later in the promo, but yeah I think this is going to be one of the major multi ep arcs. Which I love because Iâm always there for more Stella Kidd.
And then we have Brett and Mackey getting held at gun point which is just like woah! I wonder if this is the crazy 10 seconds at the end of 9x01 that Derek warned us about. I mean, itâs gotta be right? And as a Brettsey shipper I have to wonder, and would love to see, if Brett and Casey bond over this experience. Because Casey went through something similar in I want to say season 7? When a gun was pointed at him and it jammed, and basically lead to an existential crisis. I love me some angst so I would love to see Casey be there for Brett through that.
And just a random interesting side note. We get a shot of Sylvie driving what I presumed to be the ambo. But someone noticed on twitter that the dimensions are slightly off, the seats are the wrong colour, and you canât see the window that shows into the back of the ambo, so sheâs possibly driving another car, in her ambo gear? Wearing gloves? Donât really know whatâs going on with that one, gonna have to think on it a bit more.
And we been knew but clearly this Atwater/Doyle thing is gonna be a major season 8 storyline. Well I mean the amount of time devoted to it in the promos suggests it is anyway. And honestly, it better be. Atwater deserves to have a major story like this. I donât want it wrapped up in the first episode.
I do wonder if the shot of Atwater presumably getting pulled over by a cop is going to be something that was specifically orchestrated by Michael Doyle or if itâs going to be a slightly unconnected storyline that ties into the bigger theme of reform that this season is pushing.
And finally just a comment on Atwaterâs line right near the end: âIf Iâm the one you want then come for me!â which kind of makes me wonder if Doyle tries to hurt Atwater through someone else, either Jordan, or the others in Intelligence, or Vanessa. Thereâs lot of speculation that Jordan is going to die, which is a definite possibility. Or this scene could be related to the uniformed officers not showing up for Intelligence and thereby putting them in danger (which is a plot line I definitely think has been teased for season 8).
So anyway yeah, those are my thoughts. I hope you liked this break down and found it interesting and helpful since some of the clips are so short that it can be hard to pick up on absolutely everything. And going through it slowly and transcribing it actually helped me pick up all the little details which was cool. But anyway yeah, the promo is on the One Chicago twitter account and is probably on the yt account as well, so check it out and let me know what you thought of it :D

Schooled (Bucky Barnes)
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x OC
Summary: After the passing of Avaâs father she starts acting out which drives her right into the arms of one gorgeous Professor Barnes.
Warnings: fluff, angst, suggestive themes, swearing, main characters are 20+
Words: 2269
A/N: So, this is very very loosely based on an old fic that I wrote on my old blog so I thought Iâd revamp it a bit lot! Iâm gonna be tagging the people that were tagged in the original version of this so I hope you guys donât mind! Also, sorry that they havenât met in this first part, they meet in the next part, I promise! Please let me know if you would like to be tagged and let me know what you think, I love you all! xxx
Part One - the beginning
It was a beautiful late summerâs day, the birds were chirping and the leaves were starting to turn that burnt orange colour just in time for fall. Everything seemed right with the world, but Avaâs world had seemed to crash and burn and there had been noting she could have done to halt the plan that fate had set in motion. She was a firm believer in everything happening for a reason but why did it have to be her dad? Although his send-off was a nice one, just like he deserved but she still hadnât been ready to say goodbye to him.
Ava sighed at her reflection in her mirror before making her way downstairs, as she walked into the living room her little sister Morgan looked up from her drawing and gasped, âyou look like a princess!â
Ava smiled and smoothed her fingers through her newly dyed blonde hair, âwe can both be princesses together then,â she grinned, Morgan giggled and went back to her drawing, she didnât fully understand what was going on.
Ava looked over at her stepmom who gave her a sad smile, âevery time I looked in the mirror I saw him. I needed to make a change,â Ava explained, fiddling with the ends of her hair.
Without a word Pepper pulled her into a huge hug, after a moment she said, âyou donât have to explain, you look beautiful and Iâm so glad your back in New York.â
Ava smiled as they pulled away from each other, âdad would have wanted us all to be together, besides Iâm definitely not a Californian girl, some of those girls were horrible,â she chuckled, she was so excited to be attending NYU with her old friends and she was even more excited to be staying in the dorms, âand, there was a clear reason why my dad got full custody of me when he and my mom got divorced,â she said, rolling her eyes making Pepper laugh.
âSo,â she continued, pouring herself a cup of tea, adding a touch of cinnamon and ginger to it, âwhich of dadâs things need sorting through? I want to help,â she added as it looked like Pepper was about to argue.
Pepper sighed and nodded, âRhodey is sorting through the lab, thereâs so much shit in there that heâll probably need a hand.â
Ava nodded and made her way back out of the room and towards the lab, ruffling Morganâs hair as she went. As she walked into the lab she smirked as she saw Rhodeyâs head stuffed into a tall storage box, muffled swearing was coming from the inside of it. She giggled and leaned against the doorway of the lab as Rhodey wrenched his head out of the box, spilling packaging peanuts everywhere.
âNeed a hand Uncle Rhodey?â she giggled behind her hand as Rhodey grimaced, brushing peanuts off of his clothes.
âIâd be grateful for the help kiddo,â he nodded, ânice hair by the way.â
Pepper was right, the lab was just full of shit â Tony really had been a hoarder â he probably had never used any of the stuff they found. They found loads of interesting stuff though like an old newspaper article about Avaâs grandfather from the 40âs. Rhodey and Ava had a good old laugh about the photographs they found from Tonyâs old college days. Ava unearthed an old jersey that had to be the softest material that sheâd ever felt and it somehow still smelled like Tony. She made a mental note to take it off to college with her.
She was sorting through her dadâs desk when she came across a memory stick along with a cutting from a newspaper article.
âRhodeyâŠâ Ava asked slowly, âwhatâs this?â she asked, upon further inspection she saw that there was a note attached to the back that read, âfor Ava.â
Rhodey chewed his lip and walked over to her, placing a hand on her shoulder, âyou should watch it, your dad would have wanted you to.â
Ava nodded without a word and she quickly set up the laptop to plug the memory stick into. Straight away she saw a younger Tony Stark sitting on a couch; he looked up at the camera, flashing that signature grin. Ava felt tears brewing in her eyes.
âHey kid, youâre actually having your first nap of the day right now, I canât believe that youâre a week old already. I wanted to make this video for you to watch after Iâm gone which will hopefully not be for a long time. So, if youâre watching this Iâm dead, Iâm hoping that I had a good run,â he chuckled, âjust wanted to tell you kid that no matter where you choose to go or what you choose to do I will always be the proudest of you. You will always be the best thing that happened to me. Whenever you feel sad or alone just watch this video and know that Iâm with you till the end. I love you baby girl,â with those final words Tony flipped the camera off.
âYou alright kiddo?â Rhodey asked, Ava sniffled and nodded, wiping her tears away, unplugging the memory stick and slipping it into her back pocket.
âIâm fine, I just didnât know he had it in him to be so serious thatâs all,â she chuckled, trying to make light of the situation. She looked further through the desk and picked up the newspaper cutting that sheâd seen earlier. Ava frowned as she read the title, âTony and Natalie Stark welcome miracle baby, Avaline.â
There they were right on the front page and in her dadâs arms pink and tiny, with jet black hair was her, âwhy was I a miracle baby Uncle Rhodey?â she asked and Rhodey smiled weakly.
âYour mom was told by the doctors that there was only about a 20% chance that sheâd be able to get pregnant. When you were born without a hitch your dad swore that it was a miracle and he rushed to announce it to the world.â
âOh,â Ava lamely finished, blinking back tears as an awkward silence settled in the lab, âI should um start packing for Greece, I leave on Friday and I havenât even started yet.â
âOkay,â Rhodey nodded understandingly, âIâll see you later.â
Ava nodded and smiled, thanking god that Rhodey was so understanding, âbye Uncle Rhodey,â she escaped to her room and sighed, she hadnât exactly lied to get away from the awkward situation. She really did need to pack for Greece. She was so not organised.
About an hour into packing she huffed, feeling extremely bored and started scrolling through her phone. She noticed that her friend Wanda had put a message on the group chat that they had with their other friend MJ.
âHey ladies! Are we all ready for Greece?! Iâm actually so excited; we all deserve the sun, the sea and some excellent food if you ask me! Just got an email from college administration saying that the dorms are co-ed this year! We could be rooming with some hot guys! Ava, you chose the right time to enroll in NYU darling, I wish it was under better circumstances though! Ciao for now xxxâ
Ava giggled as she read the message; Wanda had just split up with her boyfriend so it would be great for her if she got roomed with a cute guy. In fact, itâd probably be great for Ava too. It was in that moment that she was determined to stop moping around and make a fresh new start. It was what her dad would have wanted for her. She placed the newspaper cutting about her birth on her desk so sheâd remember to pack it for college; she kissed her fingers before touching her dadâs photograph.
âMiss you dad.â

Bucky smirked and laid back on the bed, resting his arms behind his head as Natasha walked out of the bathroom, rubbing a towel against her damp red hair. She was so beautiful; she was everything that Bucky had ever dreamed of. Nat looked at Bucky and saw the look on his face and his lust filled eyes.
She rolled her eyes at him playfully, âwhat are you smirking at gorgeous?â she asked, a smirk to match Buckyâs spread across her face.
âYou,â he said simply, âcome here,â he chewed his lip, almost whining and Nat huffed with a grin.
âNo,â she giggled, backing away from both him and the bed, âyouâre gonna get me all dirty again,â she casually flicked her wet her hair over one shoulder and fluttered her eyelashes, knowing what it did to him.
Bucky pouted like a moody teenager, sticking his plump bottom lip out and giving her his best puppy dog eyes, âbut we can get clean together again,â
Nat giggled and relented, getting back into the bed with him again, leaning over him to kiss his lips, âgod, you are actually beautiful,â Bucky flushed scarlet at her words and tried his best to play it off like it was nothing and he tried to act like her words had no effect whatsoever on him.
âBucky Barnes, are you blushing?â she teased, nudging his shoulder, making Bucky flush an even deeper colour.
âNo!â he said completely unconvincingly, trying to hide his bright red face in the pillow, âleave me alone,â he grumbled, making Nat laugh.
They both heard the distinct sound of a car door slamming and footsteps walking up the gravel path. It didnât really bother Bucky that much because Nat had told him in the past that she had a roommate. Nat on the other hand, jumped up instantly and padded over to the bay window, discreetly peering out of it as she checked her watch.
âFuck, shit! Oh my god! Bucky you need to go, like right now!â she spoke frantically, pushing her hair off of her forehead.
Bucky frowned; he couldnât see why she was so worried, âwhy? I really want to meet your roommate.â
âBucky, jesus! I donât have a roommate, itâs my boyfriend!â he didnât have time to be so shocked because Nat was urging him to get out of the bed and get dressed. She had to be joking.
âI canât believe that you didnât tell me that youâve got a boyfriend!â he hissed as he pulled his jeans on, âweâve been sleeping together for months!â
âNever mind that now! Out the window!â she whispered and Buckyâs eyes almost bugged out of his head.
âOut the window?!â he repeated, making sure that heâd heard her right, he was so pissed off beyond belief.
âYes!â Nat whisper shouted, obviously getting impatient which Bucky thought was rich, âdo you want to get beaten up? If you do then by all means stay!â she hissed, flinging his shirt at him.
âFor fucks sake!â Bucky grumbled as he climbed out of the window and almost literally shimmied down the drainpipe, âIâm getting far too old for this.â
Steve and Sam both started over the table at Bucky with identical dumbfounded looks on their faces as Bucky finished his crazy story, âI know right,â he chuckled â he could see the humour in it now â as he took a sip of his beer.
âGod, I havenât climbed out of a window since our own college days,â Sam chuckled, shaking his head at Bucky, âand youâre doing it as an actual adult,â he slapped his knee as he laughed about it, obviously finding it really hilarious. Bucky glared at his friend, his pride was still hurting days after climbing out of that window.
âWhere the hell do you go to meet these crazy women?â Steve asked, half in awe and half in astonishment.
âCrazy but hot Stevie, thatâs the best thing,â Bucky smirked as Steve rolled his eyes and Sam looked kind of proud, âjust in bars and stuff man, the usual places where youâd go to meet women,â Bucky shrugged, draining the last of his beer.
âYeah, well I donât think thatâs working out great for you is it Buck?â Sam chuckled.
âI agree with Sam Bucky and I seriously think that you need to take a holiday or something,â Steve muttered as he got up and went to get the next round of beers.
Bucky shuddered, he couldnât think of anything worse, he loved going on holiday â like most people but he was terrified of flying. He was bad enough when he was with other people, never mind flying on his own. He hated that it was one of his biggest fears, he really needed to conquer it but it was easier said than done. Sam watched his friend, knowing that he was worried. When Bucky realised that Sam was looking at him he laughed Steveâs comment off casually.
âIs he crazy? Going on an airplane on my own? No thanks.â
âHeâs right man; you seriously need a break before you start your new job. And, it would help you forget about what happened last year.â
Buckyâs blood ran cold at Samâs words, âmate, please do me a favour and donât talk to me about last year. I donât want to talk about it.â
âOkay, okay,â Sam relented, holding his hands up, âbut if you figure that you do want to talk about it then Iâm here for you.â
âThanks man,â Bucky grinned, clinking his empty bottle against Samâs, thanking for his best friends.
Maybe Steve was right, maybe he needed to let himself go a little bit more. He was looking forward to what the future had in store for him.

Summary:
Tony is clingy. Like a lot. Not that Steve doesnât like cuddling with his boyfriend. Though sometimes Tonyâs more like an octopus. Fluff happens.
AN:
I hope you enjoy it. Please go easy on me, English is not my mother language. Not beta-ed. Originally posted on AO3:

.oOo.oOo.oOo.
Upon entering the workshop, Steve almost stepped on a sleeping Tony. It was only 7 pm, but Tony hadnât slept the night before. So the blonde soldier bent down and picked the wrench from his sleeping loverâs hand with a fond smile on his lips. He ran a hand through the unruly dark brown strands. With a low groan the sleeping man shifted and pressed his face against Steveâs palm. Steve chuckled at the feeling of his lovers beard and the sleepy huff he got in response.
âTony, honey, how about sleeping in our bed instead of on the floor, huh?â
A deep rumble was everything he got as an answer. Therefore he bent down a bit more and carefully picked him up, bridal style. Cradling his precious bundle close to his broad chest, he turned around and left the workshop. Tonyâs breath hitched when the slightly cooler air of the elevator hit their skin. Steve tucked his loverâs head under his chin and felt his warm breath on his collarbone. While they waited for the elevator to arrive at the penthouse, he felt Tony shift a bit more in his embrace. One arm sneaked around his neck and the other around his waist, until Tony had him in a lazy embrace himself. Steve rubbed his cheek lovingly over his loverâs head and inhaled his unique scent. Though slightly sweaty from working, he could still smell Tonyâs expensive aftershave and the metallic undertone that seemed to accompany him all the time. Quietly the doors of the elevator slid open and the open space of their shared living quarters welcomed them. Steve went straight to their bedroom and laid Tony carefully down. But the moment he wanted to withdraw his arms from underneath the smaller manâs body, two hands clung to the collar of his shirt and Tony held onto him as if his life depended on it.
âDonât go⊠SteveeeeâŠâ
With soft movements he tried to pry Tonys hands off him. âIâm not going anywhere, honey. I just want to eat something and then Iâll change and come to bed with you, okay?â
âNoooo⊠just stay here, pleaseâŠâ A yawn escaped Tonyâs lips, but he still held tightly onto Steveâs shirt.
It took Steve 15 minutes and 20 different versions of âIâm not going anywhere.â, âI love you.â and âIâll be right there.â to convince Tony to let go of him, so he could eat something first before joining his lover in bed.
The moment his head hit the pillow, he instantly had a clingy boyfriend at his side, snuggling close to him and burying his nose in the crook of Steveâs neck. The blonde chuckled and wrapped his arms around his sleep deprived Tony, and just like this, they fell asleep.
.
A few days later:
It was a normal everyday morning, when Natasha strode into the kitchen, a way too big black shirt hanging from her shoulders. Her hair was styled perfectly though, as if she didnât just wake up. Steve sipped his orange juice, sitting at his place at the big table, newspaper, cornflakes and fruits in front and a sleepy Tony beside him, who was resting against his shoulder, barely awake at this point.
âGood morning, Nat.â He greeted her.
âMorning, Steve.â She answered and arched one perfectly styled eyebrow as she took in Tonyâs not so awake state. âLong night, huh?â She smirked over the edge of her coffee cup
âIf you mean that he spent the whole night in his workshop, not coming to bed? Then yes. It was a long night. At least for him.â He brought his glass to his slips, took another sip of his juice and looked over to his teammate.
âHuh, not what I was imagining but well, that at least explains this.â She pointed at Tony and Steve noted that his boyfriend had fallen asleep on his shoulder and was an inch away from diving head first into his coffee, which stood on the table in front of him. Steve shifted a bit and managed to get his arm around Tony so he wouldnât slip off. He sighed. This was so typical for him.
âActually, I wanted to go the gym. But every time I try to move away, he manages to cling onto me, even when heâs fast asleep like this. I sometimes get the feeling that he might have a secret superpower, that warns him even in his sleep.â He explained to her.
âAre you sure the word youâre looking for to describe him in this state isnât leech? Or monkey?â Natasha mocked him, while she poured herself another cup of black coffee. Steve shot her a good-natured glare and tightened his arm around Tonyâs shoulders. He glanced down at his lover when he felt the others arms snake around his waist. After a heartbeat he glanced back at the Russian spy.
âI think the word I am searching for is octopus.â He laughed harder than what was appropriate, when Natasha snorted at his comment and almost choked on her coffee.
.
One evening:
âTony? I canât draw you like this. You bugged me for weeks to draw you and now you wonât let me.â
âYou can draw me like this. A rare opportunity to watch a genius, billionaire, former playboy and philanthropist in his natural habit.â
âYouâre such a dork, Tony.â
âBut you love me.â
âDamn. I do.â
Steve chuckled and put his sketchbook aside on the small table in front of the couch, where they were laying. Well, actually Steve was laying on the couch. Tony was splayed all over him, his head on his chest, his arms around his torso, his hands caught under Steveâs back and their legs tangled together.
With one hand the blonde started to caress the nape of his loverâs neck, where he knew was one of Tonyâs weak spots. The contend purring he got out of Tony was proof enough. With the other hand he zapped through the various TV channels, until he settled on a relaxing documentary about the Caribbean islands. He watched the colorful animals of all kinds, the white beaches and the sun shining bright over all of it and suddenly wished to see this for himself one day. Birds were singing, flowers blooming and a purple octopus lazily embraced a way too big stone. Not long after Steve had started petting Tonyâs neck, he heard a faint snoring. Tony had apparently fallen asleep on his chest. Carefully he tried to shift a little for a more comfortable position, though that only made his boyfriend hold even tighter onto him.
Steve looked at him. He looked to the TV. He looked at Tony again. And then he reached out to get his sketchbook and a pencil.
A moment later he noticed how the brunet lifted his head. He peered over the edge of his book.
âWhy did you stop?â He pouted, his lips pursed and his chin on Steveâs sternum. A warm huff of breath tickled Steve through his shirt.
âYou wanted me to draw you like this, remember?â Steve innocently batted his eyelashes, bent forward and pressed a kiss to Tonyâs forehead. âI just discovered a new animal species, that is almost as clingy as you when youâre sleepy.â
Tony frowned in confusion at that, but made no move to release Steve from his death grip. Steve grinned like a Cheshire Cat. He turned his sketchbook around for Tony to see what he had drawn. A cute, squishy looking octopus with Tonyâs goatee smiled openly at him.
âI present to you: Octonypus.â
Tony stared at the tiny animal (?), his mouth hanging slightly open, his eyes impossibly wide and Steve couldnât suppress his laughing anymore. He put his sketchbook out of Tonyâs reach and hugged him close to his chest. A moment later Tony joined him, laughing dearly.
âYou are such a dork, Steve!â
âBut you love me.â
âDamn. I do.â

Let us begin again ringing in the New Year here in Rapture. Hereâs a little tribute based off Johnny Dombrowskiâs marvelous illustration though with a slightly older Wurlitzer model instead. Those new Bubbler jukeboxes always seem to jam and play only a few seconds of a song.
As always, weâll take this time to remember Patti Page, singer of âDoggie in the Windowâ who also passed away on New Yearâs Day.
Weâre celebrating another 10th anniversary of a sister game this year with Fallout 3 and a new set of sounds wafting in from Appalachia.
See if your favorite record, 8-track, cassette, or wax cylinder was featured this year:

Level 9 speculations!
nowhere near as many as for 8 since thereâs no ASIs to deal with!
Everyone: now has a higher proficiency bonus (+4)! This means that they all hit a bit harder, all spell save DCs go up by 1, and they get +1 to any skills in which theyâre proficient (and Nott/Veth gets +2 to any skills in which sheâs an expert, so expect EVEN CRAZIER STEALTH ROLLS).
Fjord: gets one new spell; all his spells are now level 5. Still only two slots. His hexblade-specific options include Cone of Cold, (aka what Lorenzo could do), and Banishing Smite, which is both extremely nasty (5d10 force damage!) and, well, banishing, though itâs not permanent the way Banishment can be. His Warlock options include Dream which lets you communicate through dreams, Contact Other Plane (exactly what it sounds like except that also it can potentially drive the caster insane), Scrying, and Hold Monster. Given that Fjord tends to be an offense player my guess is heâll go for one of the Hexblade options.
Beau: can walk on walls and water. 1 more ki point.
Caleb: gets two new spells automatically, can now copy down level 5 spells. Presumably teleportation circle will be one of those; while his feelings about Yussa are mixed heâs told Jester that heâll be able to get her to Nicodranus. Beyond that who knows; Seeming sure would be useful given how often the M9 need to disguise themselves and given that it lasts 8 hours instead of Disguise Selfâs 1 hour. Raryâs Telepathic Bond meanwhile will let the group communicate if they split the part (think Vox Machina earrings). Heâs also probably going to read every book available to him on Dunamancy too.
Nott/Veth: as mentioned, now has +13 to stealth. Sneak Attack is now 5d6. Also, if she casts spells while hidden the target has disadvantage on the save. No new spells.
Jester and Caduceus: welcome to the 5th level spell list! Jester gets a permanently prepared dominate person and modify memory so uh...thatâs going to be a trip. Caduceus meanwhile gets antilife shell (Keyleth used this at least once if I recall - itâs good for going through hostile wilderness territory) and raise dead. Jester also has access to Raise Dead if she prepares it, so the M9 now officially can resurrect someone outside the timeline for Revivify (and without needing a casting of Gentle Repose). Itâs going to cost them though, so diamond-shopping is important. Some Cleric 5th Level Spell Highlights include the D&D cure-all of Greater Restoration (which also needs diamonds), Mass Cure Wounds and Scrying.
Yasha: Brutal Critical, aka âwhen barbarians crit, things die.â A nat 20 from Yasha means she gets an extra damage die (which, based on how Matt DM-ed it with Grog, does not get doubled).
On a more general level, L5 spells are where casters start to have abilities that allow them to immediately understand and react to the world on a more global scale - scrying and teleportation in particular. Itâs also the level where a lot of control and planar spells begin (planar binding, conjure elemental, modify memory) so this is going to be very interesting given that the M9âČs role in the world has drastically shifted and theyâre actively seeking to stop a continental conflict.
