I don't know how to exactly articulate it, but I love that one of the final messages from the finale is that it doesn't matter whether or not you're The Chosen One ™, but what matters is that you step back and you choose yourself.
#the owl house#the owl house spoilers#toh spoilers#toh analysis#look that scene has been repeating in my head nonstop and i want other people to obsess over it with me#when Luz chose herself her appearance became the appearance of the things she chooses to love#she looks like her mother and Eda and king and even her dress is like a Boiling Isles spun version of Azura#because thats who she is now and thats what will be her saving grace#god i loved this finale

What’s further absurd about Camila being more of a mom to Hunter than Luz in fanon is that. Camila and Hunter have two(2) solo interactions across the entire show and it’s Hunter kneeling to Camila to say thanks and her telling him not to do that, and then her pulling him out of the water. Thats it, the scenes transition to Hunter and Gus talking or the group worrying about Hunter. But then we see Camila interact with Luz at the end of the episode, in fact she has MULTIPLE interactions with Luz that episode and in general!!!
Meanwhile Darius is right there, he was mean to Hunter once, but he made up for it in the same episode by validating Hunter, looking out for him, giving him a way to talk to his new friends! He worries about Hunter in Hollow Mind. When the kids reunite with their parents, Hunter has nobody until Darius shows up.
And if y’all can forgive Eda for being immature with King a few times in S1, you can do the same for Darius. If you can forgive Alador’s abuse and neglect towards his kids by embracing their forgiveness, Darius is nothing. Darius is basically the only adult to actually talk to Hunter directly besides you know who and Eda, but that was twice and she was making fun of him the first time. Raine also showed concern but I barely see that dynamic.
It’s insane because it’s not enough that Hunter needs love from an adult for these people, they need it to be Camila’s love specifically!!! Despite Luz’s entire arc and the show in general being kicked off from Luz feeling like her mother didn’t love her enough by sending her to that reality check camp. Oh, Hunter needs someone kind for him because of trauma? Luz also has trauma, S3 has her go on a thinly-veiled suicidal rant.
Istfg I see Camila and Hunter more than I see Camila and Amity, and at least Amity is basically her daughter in law, plus it’s Amity getting away from her two abusive white parents. Meanwhile people denying Darius are demonizing him for being a black man who was mean once.
He’s not even Luz’s brother, and I’m sure part of the insistence of Camila as Hunter’s mom is an extension of that; Except the ‘Siblings’ dynamic between Luz and Hunter is inaccurate and exaggerated, esp in favor of Luz and King or Vee! We see so much fanart and fanfic of Camila just hanging out with Hunter even casually without angst, but not her own blood daughter.
Like yeah maybe it’s fun to explore the two-month period in the human realm and how Camila was the only adult these kids had; But people continue to hype her up as Hunter’s mom in settings outside of that timeframe!!! We see Luz come out to her mom and everything, we have her being raised by her mother! And Camila taking care of Hunter would not suck so hard if Luz wasn’t completely overshadowed, if Hunter wasn’t everywhere and inserted into everything! With fans insisting Hunter’s a Noceda and NEEDS to be in group photos like that, insisting on joint custody as if Luz and Camila don’t have that much of a relationship with Hunter to begin with and Darius is sufficient, crying about how he deserved more in the finale! Boohoo.
I’m gonna be real here, Hunter fans are the weakest link in this fandom despite being the most prevalent at this rate. They’ll rather make up stuff for him to talk about than acknowledge other characters, or even take other characters’ moments to give to him; Like remember when Luz had a nightmare sequence where she was dressed in Belos’ clothes and felt the weight of everyone’s accusations, and then some fanartist made a piece of that happening to Hunter instead??? I have to see Camila hugging Hunter while he wields String Bean, who is Luz’s Palisman when Waffles is right there without a confirmed creation date, so they could’ve easily been shortly after the finale!!!
It is SUCH an admission of envy and unconscious racism that y’all need to take traits and moments that belong to other characters and give it to your white boy to enjoy them, instead of enjoying these characteristics with the characters they actually belong to! And don’t make this about you and how you personally aren’t consciously racist or whatever, because this is about a group trend and PoC should not have to bear the burden of screening every individual of guilt. And yeah it is racist, hell it’s basically the Mammy archetype where a WoC is expected to prioritize her white charge over her own child.
And don’t even try to argue you’re innocent because you’re a PoC, PoC are just as capable of white favoritism and I speak from experience! For chrissakes everyone we’re snappy about this because being gentle about it has never worked for PoC. If you feel upset by this than actually do something about it and learn instead of wallowing in self pity or even denying it.

Back to the Swamp rundown!
So...
Disney Channel's YouTube account just released a new TOH chibi tiny tale.
And it's a crossover with Amphibia!
Here's my summarization of the events.
It begins with Luz meddling with the good 'ol portal door.
I'm not sure what she's expecting to accomplish, but Eda and King evidently found it interesting enough to watch. Eda even brought popcorn!
But whatever Luz did, it worked!
I have no idea when this is supposed to be occurring within the series timeline by the way. Luz is wearing season one outfit, has access to the portal door, which is also not destroyed.
So, season one, right?
But Eda has her post "Let the pain be shared" silver eye... And her season two dress for that matter!
Ah well, onwards to adventure! Eda is all for it!
King is a bit more... concerned, but comes along too.
Doesn't stop him from being mystified about the wildlife, though.
I guess Luz was trying to get back to The Human Realm?
Because she seems utterly shocked by the sudden realization that man-sized insects means that she can't possibly be on earth, lol.
But luckily for the denizens of the owl house, they've landed in Amphibia! By Wartwood! Right in front of the Plantar family home!
While Anne's friends Marcy and Sasha were visiting no less! What luck!
Anne and Luz formally reunite and introduce their respective families/friends to one another. It's very cute.
Sasha and Eda evidently decided that they just had to have an arm wrestling competition.
Sasha uses the powers gifted to her by the Calamity Box in order to win, lol.
But Eda gets the last laugh!
Then Marcy and King play a board game together.
Annnnnd she also uses her Calamity Box powers to win.
Girls, you do realize that's considered cheating, right?
Hooty also makes an appearance.
I guess he was wondering where everybody went?
Polly proceeds to use him as a jump-rope, lol.
I'm surprised that Hooty isn't more into this, but maybe he was genuinely worried about the people who live inside of him and didn't appreciate being used a kid's plaything after braving the unknown in his best effort to find them. Lol.
Meanwhile, Luz is showing off her sick glyph skills!
...Which I just realized, probably shouldn't work in Amphibia.
Ah well, we wouldn't have gotten this nice moment where she and Anne show off their magical powers to each other otherwise!
After all is said and done, our heroes settle down to have a meal.
I'm reasonably certain that they're eating bugs. Yum, protein.
Hop Pop and Eda are doubtlessly exchanging tips on parenting orphans and their other-dimensional friends, lol.
Throughout this whole adventure, the portal door has been... shrinking?
Because... the writers needed a reason for Luz and Co to have go back to The Demon Realm suddenly?
XD That's my best guess, as I don't recall there ever having been a time limit when it came to using the original portal door. It was kinda OP like that.
Anywho, Luz and Co need to leave immediately. Anne and Luz are quite sad to see one another go.
King really wants to make sure to say goodbye to everybody properly!
To the point he was a little too preoccupied to notice the portal door closing on him.
Also: Hop Pop faints because he thinks he just saw a little kid get decapitated, lol.
Meanwhile, back in the owl house, Luz is sad that she had to say goodbye to Anne. Eda comforts her, it's a sweet sight.
What isn't such a sweet sight is what King looks like minus his skull.
Although King himself is rather nonplussed about the whole thing.
Like mother, like son. Lol.
Luz is completely and totally horrified by the sight of King...
And that's the note that we end on!
Overall, cute little short.
And as a bonus...
XD This is officially canon now.

Hunger Games: Luz's outfit
Honey, on your knees when you look at me. I'm dressed like a fucking queen and you're begging,"please!" I rule with the velvet tongue, And my dress undone. And I'll get you lost but I'm having fun Holy, holy, holy, yeah Holy, holy, holy Holy by King Princess
Hunter is waiting for Luz with Eda and Darius. To keep with their stylists theme of light and darkness, Hunter is dress from head to toe in a dark midnight purple, almost black. With a white silver cape that looks like moonlight. Tiny see through silver cresent moons handstitched onto the cape. This color makes his skin and hair seem even more pale. Like he himself is made from silver moonlight. His appearance over all is handsome. Like one of those elven princes that Luz likes to gush and read about. He himself feels ridiculous and self conscious. He rather wear his own clothes. His own knitted sweathers, or his wolf shirt he took hours to make. The one his mother Evelyn was so proud of. She smiled so big when he showed her, " Your going to be wonderful seamstrist Hunter, a little artist just like your father! We'll have his wood carvings and your clothes all together in our shop. Our family business" He suddenly misses his parents with a deep burning longing. His father and his gentle smiles and his even gentler birds. His mother and her laughter, always smelling of mapel syrup and flapjacks. His anger at his uncle, President Wittebane grows deeper. He knows his uncle had his name chosen on purpose. Finally a chance to punish his parents for running off together. For being happy. So he'll take his revenge by killing their only son. Real proof of their love killed for the whole world to see.
Hunters dark thoughts are interrupted by Luz's bubbly voice coming down the stairs. "Finally," he grumbles, he goes up to look at her, "Took you long e-" he doesn't finish his sentence. He chokes on his spit as he gazes up at her. In one word she looks like royalty. Like a goddess honestly. He's reminded of the many religious statues he's seen in the Capital. Goddesses, gods and titans depicted forever in golden statues. Luz is her name sake. From head to toe she is covered in a golden light dress. The dress made from glowing golden stars. Or at least the stylist made it seem that way. Sparkley golden ballet shoes adorned her feet. Her face having little golden stars drawn near her eyes and over her eyebrows. Her wild natural curls pined up in a bun with stars sprinkled all over every bit of her hair. In one word she is her name sake. She is light, she is the stars, she is the sun to his moon. Luz smiles self consciously at Hunter, " Either I look really good or really bad," jokes Luz as she's finally at the bottom of the stars. Hunter stares at her dazed, still saying nothing. Luz worried waves a hand in his face and calls to him, " Uh Hunter? Hello are you ok?" Seeing her hand wave and fingers snap to get his attention, Hunter snaps out of it. Blushing red, Hunter turns away frustrated. " You look beautiful, you know you look beautiful." Luz at this finally smiles all relaxed. When Hunter finally turns back to her, he sees Eda handing Luz a plain black hooded cape. She puts it on, hiding her beautiful outfit of stars and light completely. Hunter confused asks, "Why are you doing that?" Luz looks to him from under the hood and explains, eyes looking up at him through her eyelashes, "Eda wants the outfit to be a big surprise for the interview. To dazzle the capital with this outfits hidden surprises." Hunter doesn't understand what she means by hidden surprises till later. When Luz is finally having her interview in front of millions. She gets up out of her chair. Unties the cape, it slowly falling and revealing her dress. The captial audience gasps and aww. Than Luz does something surprising. Having ballet shoes, she makes a pose with her arms, and lifts them into the air. As she does that she goes all the way to the point of her toes. Her yellow ballet shoes sparkles like stars. She lifts one leg gracefully behind her, and starts to twirl. Twirling her dress skirt as well. As she spins, the dress glows brighter. Stars appear and twinkle around her. She spins and gracefully dances here or there. The stars and light glowing happily as they follow her. Gone is the sad sweet girl Hunter knows. Instead here is a young woman. Happy dancing and lighting up the world. The crowd goes wild for this. Cheering her on and clapping. The jump to their feet calling out her name, throwing flowers and roses to the stage. Telling her to twirl and dance more. And Luz does. Smiling all the way. When her dance is finally done she bows to crowd. She's panting and sweaty, but still beautiful. Celestial even. Her hair has fallen out of her pined up star. Wild curls free and down her back. Stars still glittering in hair. She finally sits down. " That was certainly a show," the interviewer exclaims. "What did your designer call this dress?" Luz blinks her eyes and stares out into the crowd. Her eyes finally meets Hunters. When their eyes connect, her face changes. She becomes serious as she stares at him. To crowd she says this, but she's really saying this to Hunter. "My design is to represent that I am the queen. The queen of my name sake. The Queen of light. And as the queen, I plan not to only win this game. But be the queen of them." Hunter swallows hard at that. He is both aroused and terrified at the same time. " So your saying everyone should just give up and bow down to the queen of light ?" Comments the interviewer. Luz still hasn't turned her eyes away from Hunter. Dead serious, gone is the sweet girl and the queen is in her place, " Yes, I am the queen, and honey everyone needs to be on their knees for me."

Eda to heal mother issues or family issues
Since this was vague it was hard to tell whether you wanted Eda x Reader so I ended up doing this!!
You got a new mama now
SUMMERY: Platonic! Edalyn Clawthorne x Abused!Adopted!Reader where Eda adopts you and you become King, Luz and Hunter’s sibling!!<33
WARNINGS: Mentions of parental abuse, child neglect and manipulation, in detail description of fresh wounds and PTSD. Angst to fluff
A/N: I had a few ideas for this but with the request I tried to stay vague. I didn’t use any quotes or describe the reader since I wanted you to be able yourself in their place, This is a short but hopefully sweet oneshot, if requested I might do a part 2!!Proof Read by myself!
The sizzling drops of boiling water falling from the bleak sky were much quieter then the sound of two bare feet running through the forest. They didn’t stop moving ahead, not when they heard the sound of their mother screaming at them to return, not when the boiling rain fell to their exposed skin and not when their legs felt as though a knife was being dragged from their hips to their heels. They couldn’t stop moving, not for a single second. They had been running for what felt like days, but was simply a few hours.
The young child’s eyes glimmered with a small sense of hope as they saw a tall house come into a view. They staggered as they attempted to limp over and knock on the door but failed as the second they reached the wooden surface, they collapsed against the ground. The running finally caught up to them, and now they were hopelessly crying at some stranger’s door, wishing they had just stayed home and listened to their mother’s wishes instead of fighting back against her abuse. They should have asked father for help, but it’s not like he would have done anything, he probably doesn’t even know they exist.
As they tried to lay their back against the white concrete, they almost screamed in pain only now realizing just how many scolds their were on their back. They yelled out for help, shrieking sounds of a strained voice. With their shoulder against the wall of the house they heard a voice. A high pitched voice asking if they were ok in a not so gentle tone. As they forced their eyes to open and look at the being, they were met with a beady eyed owl demon who’s body extended from the door. They could barely make out a sentence before everything went black.
“I couldn’t just leave them out there. The rain is going to be pouring for the next three days. That means NO ONE is allowed out. Not you, not king, not Hunter and certainly not this kid.”
As they slowly pried their eyes open they were surprised to be met with the sight of The Owl Lady, a human a small demon and a young witch. Did she want something from them? Then it clicked. They had stumbled to The Owl Lady’s house and fainted before help could get there, at least that’s what they thought, until the woman in a sleek yet torn red dress noticed them stirring and cut her conversation short and she hurried over and helped them sit up, making sure to avoid touching their now bandaged skin. They looked at the figure now sitting on the edge of the couch where they had been resting.
“You ok kid? I know the rains can be tough. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
They stared at her, confused and almost suspicious. Why was she helped them? Wasn’t she a criminal?
“Now take your time with answering but is it ok if I ask you a few questions?”
They merely nodded in response. She asked their name and they gave an answer with simply their first name. She then asked why they were out in the boiling rain for so long and without the proper protection. Just then it hit them that their mother would be searching for them at this moment. They struggled to answer, only being able to barely explain that they ran away after a fight with their mother. When Luz asked why they would run away over one fight they had to take a few deep breathes and gave their reply while clenching the blanket that wrapped around their legs and torso. They explained how their mother would abuse them and manipulate them and that night they were sick of everything and ran away before she could hit them.
Once they finished talking they looked over at the four individuals, all had gone quiet in the home. The only thing filling in the empty space was the sound of rain rolling off the barrier that covered the house. They looked down, disappointed with themselves. How could they open up and expose their deepest secrets to people they had just met? Suddenly as they spoke up they felt two pairs of arms wrapping around their body. Eda and Luz had hugged their sides and they could feel Luz’s tears silently dropping against their skin. And as they looked at Edalyn her eyes were clenched tight and she pulled the child closer and whispered into their ear.
“It’s ok. I’m here now and I’ll make sure that she never puts a single hand on you ever again.”

I just want to sleep, so why won't you let me? (Set after King's Tide, TOH season 2 finale)
“Luz, I’m so happy I had you as a big sister…”
“We’ll see each other after the Day of Unity…”
“Us weirdos stick together…”
“Luz, I’m so happy I had you as a big sister…”
“We’ll see each other after the Day of Unity…”
“Us weirdos stick togethertogethertogethertogether–”
Luz shot up from the mattress, one hand clenched over her rapidly beating heart.
“King!? Eda!?”
It was dark. Why was it dark? Where was she? And sleeping? Why was she sleeping when she should be rescuing her FAMILY AND –
She stumbled out of the bed and towards the partly open door. The place didn’t look too familiar, was this another CATS hideout or something?
Why were they here instead of out there stopping Belos? Why did her head hurt and her stomach twist into infinite knots like she’d eaten one too many boo-berries? And her biggest question?
Why didn’t she remember ANYTHING?
She slammed a hand against the wall as she dug her free hand into her pocket, but –
“No pockets?”
She glanced down for the first time. To her surprise, she was dressed in her cozy pajamas, ones she hadn’t seen in ages because she had never packed them in her bag for summer camp and left them in her…
Room.
In the human realm.
Luz looked up and out the window, noting the dim glow of the street lights and the rectangular, geometric-ness of the human realm that stood out in sharp (and very obvious) contrast to the warped shapes of home.
Home.
The home she’d left behind when King’s shout shocked her into releasing her grip on the vines and sent her and Amity tumbling into the portal just before it collapsed, leaving them stranded here.
In what was supposed to be her home.
Luz braced against the wall as a spell of dizziness overcame her. The trip from the dilapidated shack to her…mom’s house was too blurry to remember, shock and a tingling numbness permeating every fiber of her being as she led her friends to the one place they’d all be safe.
She did vaguely remember knocking on the door, and the look of utter surprise and confused relief that crossed her mom’s face as she saw them all scratched up and shaken.
But she definitely remembered sitting down on the couch and feeling right like she could go to sleep, because fatigue was weighing down on her every limb like she hadn’t rested in centuries, which was ironic because the last time she’d slept was…
When was the last time she’d slept?
She remembered nearly falling asleep on Amity’s shoulder before her mother suggested they all turn in for the night and explain their story in the morning.
She remembered leading her friends to the rooms upstairs and pulling out spare sleeping bags and pillows like she knew exactly where they were – which she did, because it was her house and no amount of time and distance could change that, but it wasn’t the house she’d grown to think of as a home anymore and the fact that she could even bear to think of something like that when she was finally here with her mom was just TOO much for her to handle at the moment so she shut down and began mechanically arranging their beds until she nearly stumbled over a pillow and Vee directed her to her old bed with a simple order:
Sleep.
And that was all she could recall.
She sank to the floor, wincing as the movement jostled some injuries she hadn’t yet revealed to her mother. Then again, she hadn’t revealed a lot of things to her mother. She didn’t know where to start.
Like was she supposed to start with what had happened to all of them right before the portal collapsed, or how they’d spent weeks preparing for the genocide of the entire demon realm and maybe they’d stopped it, but the situation was far FAR worse now because that Collector kid was going around turning everything into a game and she had just LEFT King and Eda and the others there alone to deal with it all and what kind of person – what kind of human was she to just leave them in their misery and escape to her own world –
CRASH!
“Shshd! Sorry, anyone who’s still awake…I did not mean for that to happen.” A hint of golden eyes peered her direction, but the light was clearly not enough to grant them a clear picture.
Luz wiped at her tears. “I-it’s okay…”
The eyes shone with recognition, “Oh, Luz…” She stepped over the sleeping bundles and nestled down by Luz’ side. “I didn’t realize you were awake.”
“I didn’t want to be.”
“Oh.” Amity sighed, glancing quickly at their friends before lowering her voice, “Are you thinking about…what happened back there?”
“…aren’t you?” She wanted to be sharper with her question, because how could Amity not be thinking about everyone they’d left behind, but her voice quavered dangerously and she could feel a little lump growing in her throat that shut her up real quick.
But Amity had always known her too well. “Luz…”
“You’re going to say it’s not my fault and that I couldn’t have stopped the Collector or saved King on my own. I know you are.” She wiped at her eyes. “But I just LEFT them, Amity….I just left them there and now we have no way of going back andandAND!”
Amity gathered her into a hug, wrapping her whole body around Luz’s trembling frame as she wept softly to herself. “Luz…”
The girl whimpered in her embrace.
“Luz, I’m not going to sit here and try and pretend there’s an upside to all of this. Because everything happened so fast and we literally haven’t had a single moment to process it all and we’re tired and sore and hurting and nothing I say can really make you feel better anyway…but there is one thing I want you to know.”
She ran gentle fingers through thick brown hair, relishing the little content hum that came from her sniffling girlfriend. “I…I want you to know how unbelievably GLAD I am to see you alive and to be able to hold you in my arms right now…because after that little stunt you pulled at the factory,” Amity released a wet chuckle, “I thought I’d never get to see you again, or hold you again…I…I thought we’d never get that date...”
Luz’s head shot up so fast, affront written all over her face like she’d just insulted her mother. “But, but I promised you that date!”
“I know,” Amity giggled, “I know you did, and I know you always keep your promise, Luz…and maybe that’s why I shouldn’t have worried at all. But…I was so scared for you that all I could think of on the ride to the Titan’s Head was what I would do if I got there too late…and-”
“Hey,” A warm, brown hand cradled her cheek, nudging her glance back to Luz’s soft gaze, “It’s okay, Sweet Potato. I’m here now.”
“I know.” Amity leaned in, pecking a light kiss to Luz’ lips and enjoying the beet-red blush that spread across her girlfriend’s face. “There are a lot of things I’m not sure about and I know our future is really uncertain right now…but I’m just glad I get to do that again.”
“Oh, you-you can do that whenever you want,” A flustered Luz blurted out.
“Whenever?” One eyebrow went up. “So, if I were to give you another one right now, you wouldn’t mind?”
It hadn’t seemed possible, but Luz was quickly rivalling her in the tomato-face department. “N-NO! I-I mean, sure, you-you could…but-but I- I mean you-in this- and now and I just…” She groaned and buried her head in her hands with a soft cry, “Help?”
Amity couldn’t help but giggle at Luz’ adorableness as she removed the hands, “If I knew you were going to get this flustered, I’d have kissed you sooner.”
Luz was mere seconds from passing out, “S-sooner? Like how much sooner?”
Amity felt a hint of warmth creep across her own face. Thinking about when or how she might have summoned the courage to kiss Luz without the end of the world looming in the distance was far more than she cared to think about this late at night, not on top of everything else.
“Maybe I’ll tell you later. After you get some sleep.”
“Noooo…” Luz whined, an adorable pout on her lips, “Please, Ames…ya can’t just leave a girl hanging like that!”
Amity feigned indifference, “I’m immune to your wily ways, Noceda. Your charms can’t bamboozle me.” Her expression softened as Luz stifled a yawn, “See, you can barely keep your eyes open. Bed first, talk later.”
Luz huffed but allowed Amity to help her to her feet. “Will…?” She blushed and rubbed her forearm, but the hesitation and the awkward silence was enough for her girlfriend to get the hint.
Amity blushed a deep red, “You…you want me to sleep with you?”
It was a miracle neither girl had passed out from lack of oxygen. But Luz sure felt on the brink of it. “J-just for tonight…I-it’d help.”
“Oh…” Amity sucked in a deep breath, “O-okay.”
They crossed over their dozing friends and to the bottom bunk, brushing aside the scattered covers so that Luz first, then Amity could crawl under.
“Um…are you sure your mother is okay with this?”
Luz bit her tongue. She hadn’t yet told her mother about…well, anything. But it was far too late to worry about that now. “I’ll tell her in the morning. Besides, we’ve had a long day, she’ll understand.”
“Okay…” Amity laid down, her arms stiff against her side like wooden boards.
“Hey,” Luz curled her arms around her girlfriend, brushing her fingers against her sides, “Relax hermosa, be comfortable.”
“B…but…”
“Shhhh.” Luz nuzzled her head against Amity’s shoulder, “Bed first, talk later. Remember?”
Amity managed a nod. She could do this. She could overcome her gay panic and cuddle with her girlfriend in her bed, in her room. Right?
Soft lips landed on her cheek before Luz settled down into slumber, “Good night, sweet potato. I love you.”
The surge of warmth that swelled in her heart vanquished any lingering anxiety. Amity pressed a soft kiss to the brown hair before her before wrapping her arms around Luz. “Good night, batata. I love you too.”
In mere minutes, the couple were fast asleep.
…
…
…
…
Hunter released his breath, lightly patting Willow beside him, “What-what was that thing she said? Batata? And why did they say I love you to each other? Are people supposed to say that to each other normally? Or is that something they do because they’re ‘together’ or whatever?”
Willow sighed. As delightful as Caleb’s curiosity could be, it was way too late at night to handle all his enthusiasm. She patted his arm, “You’ll understand when you’re older.”
“…but I am –!”

Seven is often considered a magical number, let’s see if it applies to this episode.
We start with on a rather laid-back scene as Eda looks over her To Do list. And apparently she feels the need to burn her old dress. Unless told otherwise, I’m gonna go ahead and assume that she never washed her old dress and just used magic to make it so it wouldn’t smell. But after she lost her magic, the spell eventually ran out of juice and that’s why she got the new one.
We can see here some notebooks with glyphs, showing that Eda is still learning off-screen. We can also see a photo of Eda, Luz & King from the Grom episode.
Hold up, King is planning on moving out? Isn’t he like… I mean, I guess we don’t know how long he was in the tower on his own, but he can’t be much more than like ten or something. Unless his species ages really slowly. What is he even gonna do, get a job? Or maybe he’s planning on going on some kind of trip to search for his father.
Secondly, Eda is not too happy with it. ”Everyone’s leaving.” She is no substitute for the ”real thing.” King is going to look for his father. Luz is looking for a way back home to the Human Realm and her mother. Her real mother.
Oof, that’s depressing.
Heck, even Lilith left after crashing on Eda’s couch for two weeks to move back home to mom. Once/if Luz figures out a way back to the Human Realm, Eda will be alone with Hooty. Now, I wouldn’t mind that, as Hooty is Best Boy, but I can see how lesser beings couldn’t withstand his presence for very long.
My joking aside, it does make me think. We haven’t really seen any friends of Eda as far as I can recall. She’s mentioned a few times that she has several exes, but, well… they’re exes. They’re not exactly around. Her sister worked for the Emperor’s Coven and tried to arrest her. Her mother came around once a year to try another miracle cure that inevitably failed. Eda’s always been a bit of an outcast of society, due to her curse and her refusal to join a Coven making her a criminal. With all that in mind, Eda comes of as someone who would be very lonely without King and Luz.
Eda finds this lute (lying at an impossible angle) in the chest. She picks it up and starts plonking with it. A bright aura surrounds her and several objects start levitating. The gem on her chest begins to glow and she gasps, wondering if her magic has returned… only for everything to literally come crashing down and she puts down the lute in frustration.
So first off, was that Bard magic? I know the Bard Coven is a thing that exists, but I can’t recall seeing any Bard magic performed. As far as I know, when it comes to bards in roleplaying games and stuff they’re all about buffing and supporting their allies, or debuffing enemies.
Secondly, Eda’s gem did start to glow (either that or the aura from the lute was reflecting in the rock), so it might really be hinting that there is some magic left in her. Or maybe her curse was reacting in some way? We do know Eda’s emotional state can affect how the curse behaves. Stress makes it worse, so maybe the calming tunes soothed the beast within?
Thirdly. the reason I took this screenshot is because this is where we can best see the symbol on the lute. It’s a raincloud, divided in two halves by a sorta lighting bolt shaped line. There is one eye in each half, one open one close. The cloud has what might be a lightning bolt coming from it.
Something tells me that symbol will be important.
That… is probably not a good sign.
Eda’s Requiem.
Insert your own JoJoke here:_____________________________________.
A requiem is a mass held in repose of the souls of the dead, usually held in the context of a funeral. It’s a primarily catholic tradition.
So, uh… Eda’s gonna die. I’d think that’s the kind of plot twist the writers would save for the season finale, but I admire their guts.
There’s also a famous music piece by Mozart called requiem, so maybe it just means Eda’s gonna play some banger tunes.

🚨 SPOILERS FROM ELSEWHERE AND ELSEWHEN 🚨
When Gwen came back and said Dell wanted to talk to Eda was heartbreaking. We can tell Eda still feels guilty about attacking her dad and she tries to avoid it, like she always does.
This part had me dying of laughter. I loved how Eda went to the classic cartoon troupe of "I dress and act like her, my mother won't notice."
Perfect, prissy Lilith
*King walks out and Gwen looks at him*
"Is she really expecting me to fall for that?!"
"Just let her have this."
I love them.
I figured Philip was going to betray the two and I was right. And then we have, once again, a Lilith reaction face.
Again, Luz runs head first towards the monster and Lilith can't stop her. All she can think of is this:
"Eda's gonna kill me! Eda's gonna kill me! Eda's gonna kill me!"
Character development right here
Season 1 Lilith: Throws Luz towards spikes
Season 2 Lilith: My sister's gonna kill me if Luz gets hurt
Luz is SO DONE with Philip. I was screaming, internally, for Luz to punch him.
Nope, it was Lilith. I love her line here "Stay mad!"
And then Luz is like, "Cool Aunt."
It was great to hear Lilith saying that if a jerk like Philip could build a portal, so can Luz. And Luz has a lot more allies on her side.
Now, to the most heartfelt message of the episode
I felt bad for Eda here. Dell wants to reconnect with her, but she says she doesn't deserve his forgiveness. I can't imagine how Eda feels. She even admitted that because of her, Dell can't carve a palisman anymore. Again, knowing Dana, she has a plan for everything... Dell's palisman looks similar to a certain palisman we all know, Flapjack.
Full reveal of Dell. I like his design. I also enjoy that he said that even though he can't carve palisman, he can help create trees with the help of the Bat Queen.
And the part I cried at: "Carving Owlbert with you remains one of my favorite memories." Nope, I didn't need my heart after that. I'm hoping we see more of Dell this season. He seems like a cool dude.
And speaking of cool
You guys, you guys need to stop that. I am so Eda at this moment.
And I'll post later about that ending for the episode, which I think freaked a lot of people out.

Luz Appreciation Week 2022 - Day 1: Dominican Republic Culture
Hey people, next saturday The Owl House will come back, but in the meantime, what's better than a week all dedicated to our favourite human? We'll start today with a story that explores her culture, and I hope I did a good job. I'm italian, so I had only the Great Internet to help me: if I did something wrong (or if you see any grammatical errors), please tell me.
Have fun!
A Day Like No Other
Another day had started in the Boiling Isles, and so its inhabitants were getting ready to face the countless misadventures that the magical place had in store for them.
“KID, WAKE UP!”
Well, almost everyone was getting ready.
Luz did not hear Eda, nor the banging on her door, apparently. When the Owl Lady tried for the umpteenth time to wake her up without receiving a response, she decided that her right of privacy was revoked. She pulled a picklock from her mane and leaned toward the keyhole. In a matter of seconds, the door was open.
“Ok Luz, don’t make me call Hooty to shake yo-”
She stayed on the doorstep, her hand still on the doorknob. Luz was already up and dressed, and that was the first signal that something was wrong: when she didn’t have school, the girl tended to stay in her PJ’s until she had a big, sugary breakfast with King. Not only she hadn’t eat yet, but she was sitting in her window, staring at her cellphone – not the little communicator she uses to send sappy text to little Boots (another bad sign), but the human device that she knew for sure can’t send messages without a working portal. Luz was staring at it with unfocused eyes, a neutral expression on her face and a hand pressing on her stomach, like it hurt her.
“Hey kiddo, are you good?” Eda set foot in the room, with the intention of shake herself the girl if she wouldn’t respond soon. But she probably stepped in her peripheral vision because Luz jumped out of the window, hiding the cellphone behind her back.
“Eda! I didn’t hear you…” She scratched her neck and made a nervous giggle, hoping to sound natural and casual.
She failed.
“Yeah, I figured it out when I called you forty times and I had to pick the door. Since when you lock the door?”
“I just, you know, wanted some privacy…”
Again, another bad sign: when Luz isolates herself, it’s because she doesn’t want to share something, usually important and about her well-being. But before Eda could open her mouth to express her concerns, Luz ran outside the room, and she could swear that she heard the kid sniffled on her way out.
Yep, something was definitively wrong.
***
Luz managed to delay the conversation that Eda desperately wanted to have with her, non without difficulty. She had to invent all sorts of excuses, and she even started to clean Hooty by herself to avoid the witch; but she knew she couldn’t do it all day. She needed something to get Eda out of the house, so that she could sort her feelings alone and just… pretend that today was a day like any other.
“You wanna try to make a new portal door right now?”
“Well, not like immediately…” Luz said, looking at everything but Eda’s eyes. “But I really hoped we could work on it as soon as possible, so that I could see my mom again…”
It wasn’t a total lie. Luz wanted to see her mother; but at the same time, she didn’t want to say goodbye to all the amazing people she met in the Boiling Isles. She wasn’t really thrilled by the idea of a new portal door but asking Eda to search the parts for building it was the best idea she had in mind to distract her.
“Well, I guess we can go to the market and get all the ingredients to make the green liquid, an-”
Now the tricky part.
“Actually, I was thinking we could split up the work– you know, to not lose too much time: you and King could go to the market, while I search through your junk to see if we have any other useful stuff.”
Eda didn’t like the idea, at all. Narrowing her eyes, she leaned towards the girl.
“Are you sure?” Eda asked. She could tell that Luz didn’t have the force to walk all day, but her guts were telling her to not leave the girl alone. “We need to go up and down all Bonesborough, we’ll surely bump in your friends and little Boots.”
Luz nodded, an arm around her own waist and her eyes still avoiding Eda. A silence settled for a few seconds. She was sure that her plan had failed, at that point; then Eda shouted for King to prepare. Luz watched the two walk out the door but before she closed it, Eda turned back to face her. She looked like she wanted to say something to her; but in the end, she gave Luz a soft smile, and wave her goodbye.
Luz let out a long breath. She was finally alone: no King asking her to play ‘war strategies’ with him, no Eda trying to make her talk…
“HEY LUUUUZ!”
Oh no.
“Hooty…” She’d completely forgot about him. He stretched himself enough to enveloped her with his body, and crushed her in his special ‘Hooty Hug’
“Eda just told me that you needed me as assistant. And as your friend, I will do anything in my power to help through all your problems!”
“Thanks, Hooty, but…”
“There are no buts in friendship!”
“But…” Luz tried to come up with something to distract him. After a while, she was struck by an idea. “But I do need your help.”
Hooty gasped loudly and set Luz free from his hug.
“What do you need? Have I the time to bake some cookies?”
“Maybe later.” Luz said. She walked towards a window and pointed at the trees that surrounded the Owl House. “But now, I need you to find me the best leaf in the world. I don’t care how long it takes, just be sure that the leaf you’ll choose is perfect.”
“I WON’T LET YOU DOWN, LUZ!”
And with that scream, Hooty rushed out in the forest, eager to help. He started a loop in which he would find a leaf, declared it was perfect and then gasped a second later, tossed it away and took another leaf, for then start all over again. Luz watched the scene till she was sure that he would not return home soon.
An hour later, Hooty was still searching the best leaf, while Luz was heading to the basement. After spending that time looking to some old photos and that little calendar notification that made her heart lost a beat that morning, she needed to do something to rest her eyes; and since she told Eda that she’d seek the items for the portal door, she decided to give a look at the mound of garbage/treasure that was hiding in the basement.
She couldn’t believe she had forgot about today…
In her defense, she had to deal with a lot of things in these months; but that didn’t mean that it was hurting less.
Most of the things in the basement were useless, creepy or both, like the one-eyed dummy on wheels that she always forgets it’s in the left corner of the room, and that makes her shiver every time she sees it. Today was no exception. After recovering from the fright, she started roaming in the room. She spent a good half hour clearing the center of the floor to move easily and collecting all the thing she needed in a cardboard box. She was almost done, when she accidentally pushed a plank, causing the collapse of a shelf. She saw the objects it held roll all over the floor: a worn-out hat, a couple of spring glasses and some CDs. One of this caught Luz’s attention. She dropped everything she had and leaned to take it. It had a picture of some men with various instruments, and above them were the title: Merengue Mix.
She stared at it for a while, like in trance. And still in that state she got up and went to a little stereo she saw early. Luz put the CD and listen it spinning inside the stereo; then the music started.
She wasn’t sure she knew that song, but she still could feel her feet ready to jump, like she already knew how the song went. She followed the sound of the güira, the accordion and the tambora with her shoulders, and before she realized it, she was dancing. She spun around the room and look again at the dummy but this time, she didn’t feel creeped. She took it and dressed it with the things she had near: the hat, the glasses, and a shaggy red feather boa. She pulled it closer to her and started dancing with her new partner. While the music went on, she closed her eyes; if she couldn’t cast an illusion spell, then she would rely on the power of her imagination.
Luz reopened her eyes, and now the basement was gone, replaced by a hall decorated in blue, white and red. The music was now played by a live band, and all around her there were loads of dancers, all with a familiar face: all her primos, Tìa Lola and Tìo Carlos; even her abuela was on the floor, with her walking frame. She saw the tables at the back of the hall, and even if they were distant, she could smell the food on them: guisados, sancocho, pastelòn and a mountain of sweets were making her mouthwatering.
And in front of her, instead of the dummy, was her mother, in a beautiful dress that matched the decoration of the place. She was stunning: she’d always been a better dancer than her, and she was giving all her soul in this moment. She could look at her forever. They danced together for what it felt like hours, and she knew that they could have last even longer…
But then the stereo decided that she had enough fun and died.
Luz was once again in the basement of the Owl House, and in front of her there was the same creepy dummy as before; but now it seemed almost alive to her eyes.
“LUZ, I FOUND IT, I FOUND THE PERFECT LEAF AND – OH MY GOSH, A BUG!”
She heard Hooty swallow something. Then he started crying for having destroyed the precious leaf. Luz decided to go upstairs and soothe him before he tried to detach himself from the house again. She went up the stairs but before she left the room, she looked behind her; she looked at the stereo, and at the dummy.
She knew that it’d lasted just for a couple of minutes and was only in her head but… Luz was glad she’d had a nice quinceañera, after all.

my head is pounding (I can't stop the pounding)
This is part of my Four Years AU
AO3
Masterpost
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“They say you travel dimensions,” Luz said, gazing up at the man, flickers of hope in her eyes. “Is it true?”
“My dear, of course it is!” The man chortled, a tall demon of sorts covered in fur, with a mane like a lion around his neck. “Interested in learning my ways, are you?”
“Very much, sir.” Luz nodded, a smile spreading across her face. “I’m looking to find a way to the human realm. I got separated from my mom, and she’s got to be worried sick about me by now.”
“I see, I see.” The man hummed, digging around in his pockets. “Yes, I believe I can help you. Come with me,” He said, withdrawing a card with his name on it and handing it to her. “Are your friends interested, as well?” He asked, peering over her shoulder towards the witches poking around at the knickknacks and items around in his shop.
“They’re here to help me find a way to the human realm,” Luz explained, swelling, just a bit, with pleading in her eyes. “We’ll take as much as you can offer.”
“That,” The man said, eyes flickering to the wanted poster sporting a crude drawing of a figure dressed in a purple and white cloak, an owl mask covering her face. “My dear, depends on how much you are offering.”
The building rippled like water, the scene smearing like wet paint. In the blink of an eye, the scene changed to inside a tent, Luz holding a potion bottle in her hand and peering at the murky, brownish green contents within. The man spoke words that meshed together like gibberish, as though his words had been forgotten, as he gestured towards gadgets with springs sticking out of them.
Luz quietly watched, clearly not listening to a word he was saying. Her face was blank, the faint traces of weary hope gone, like they’d never existed at all. Her shoulders were slumped, and she glanced at the potion in her hands before shaking her head and sighing.
“You’re not real,” She muttered, eyes downcast.
“Come again?” The man startled.
“You’ve never been to a dimension outside your own, have you?” Luz said, raising her head.
“What in the nine realms are you--”
“Nine realms?” Luz snorted bitterly, shaking the potion in her hand. “You really commit to the bit, don’t you?”
The scene rippled again. The two were still inside the tent, but the man had moved. There were tables covered with cloth now. He had a table between him and Luz, who was still holding the potion.
“I’m very busy,” He gruffed. “And I can’t afford to convince you of what's right before your eyes--”
“This isn’t even a potion,” Luz said, raising the ‘potion’ in the air before letting it drop, watching it dully as it cracked on the ground and the contents spilled out. Muddy swamp water, by the looks of it. “I would know. I’m practically surrounded by them.”
“Honestly,” The man scoffed, eyes darting around. “Do you want my help, or not? I assure you, it’s an arduous journey, but I could accomplish it, I believe you could, too.”
“I wanted your help when I thought you had the faintest idea of what you were doing,” Luz huffed, eyes half-lidded in annoyance as she kicked the fake potion aside.
The tent flickered, like an old tape with a scratch on it. Luz was on the other side of the tent now. The man was closer, one hand in his pocket.
“--vious really.” Luz’s voice faded back in.
“Well,” The man said, rearing back, his mane puffing up. “If you're so insistent that I am a fake, why are you still here?” He said, nose turned up.
“Because I told Gus to find me if you took longer than ten minutes, because Eda was worried you might try to jump me.” Luz said simply. “And it’s been fifteen, and he’s never later than two minutes. Which I’m willing to guess means you either tipped off someone, or you set traps. It was the biggest among my many lists of clues that you don’t give a damn about this whole thing.”
The man growled, looking around wildly as his fur continued to puff up. It would’ve been pretty amusing if Luz was in any other situation.
“I have been searching,” Luz started slowly pressing a hand against her face. “For five days straight trying to find you. And the last two people I met before you tried to feed me to a pit or get me in on their murder clan when they found out who I was.” She moved her fingers aside to free an eye, sending a seething glare.
“And you knew why I was trying to find a portal out of here,” She continued. “You knew I was trying to find my mother, and you insisted you had the answer. Why? Honestly, dude, why?” She threw her arms out in a wide gesture. “What do you gain out of this? Do you get a kick out of leading on grieving people? Cause you need to see someone for that.”
“Everyones trying to make a living, and I’m just making mine.” The man hissed, withdrawing his hand from his pocket, fist clenched. “You know how it is.”
“I’m trying to go home,” Luz spat, the seething in her gaze bordering on barely restrained fury. “And yet I’m standing here, wasting my time on the excuses you're throwing at me. So, no, I don’t--”
A tear tore through the scene, sections of the tent smeared over and blurred, forgotten. Words combined and mumbled like they were talking under water. Luz had her hood up now, turning away with some inaudible, but clearly harsh, words spitting out.
The man unclenched his fist, revealing a retractable blade that he switched upright. He hissed and held it tightly in his grip, crouching for just a moment, enough for Luz to give a bored glare back, before charging her.
In that same moment, a small, furry demon leapt out from under the cloth-covered tables, latching his teeth and claws into the man's leg.
“King!” Luz exclaimed, jerking back as soon as the man charged her.
The man howled, a distorted sound, kicking out his leg as he stumbled and tried to shake off the demon clinging in like a burr, drawing blood as he growled and kicked.
Eventually, the man just slammed his leg against the closest table, King squawking as he was hit straight on and falling to the ground with a wheeze, curling into a ball.
The man had barely turned to resume his attack before a pillar of ice hit him square in the face. He fell as vines wrapped around his limbs, pinning him to the ground as he struggled. Luz shoved the glyphs she didn’t use back into her pockets before rushing to King, scooping him up into her arms. He raised his head slightly, giving an affirmation he was fine, just winded, and Luz relaxed ever so slightly.
“Emperor’s Coven showed up,” King explained with a wheeze, waving off Luz when she tried to fret over him. “They’re fine, keeping ‘em at bay outside.” He said, tilting his head in the direction of the exit to the tent. “I just thought that, you know, you might be in trouble.”
“And what a brave demon you were,” Luz agreed, smiling down at him as King perked up under the praise.
Smoke flickered over the top of the tent for a moment, like a tape had skipped a scene, before returning to normal.
“You’d do best to stick to what you know!” The man snapped from where he writhed on the ground, managing not to wilt under Luz and King whirling to glare at him.
“Spreading that wild magic of yours to the human realm won’t do any good.” The man continued, hatred spilling off him in waves. “The Emperor didn’t take kindly to an Owlet like you, why would the human realm be any different?”
“It’s not,” Luz agreed, withdrawing a fire glyph and holding King closer to her with her other arm. “But my mom is.”
With that, she tapped the glyph with her thumb and let it fall to the ground. It burned away at the plants, momentarily singeing the man's limbs tied down. He yelped and sprung free when he could, staring with wide eyes when the fire quickly spread to the cloth across the tables of fake items, catching ablaze near instantly, like frames had been passed over to allow a smooth transition.
King stared wide-eyed, looking between the growing flames and the cold, hardened fury on Luz’s face. He shrunk back in her arms, though she didn’t seem to notice. With that, she turned sharply on her heel and left, storming out through the tent flaps as it, too, caught ablaze the second she touched it, glitching as it did so.
The scene itself was wrapped up in the inferno the moment Luz left it, flames cackling as they grew and spread and consumed everything it touched.
There was soon nothing but the roaring of the fire, the blinding smoke, the rippling of the world, and a golden eye blinking into existence behind the bonfire.
,
“Luz?”
She shot upright with a start, breathing heavily as she gasped and tugged at the sheets, staring at the far corner of her room. King jerked away from her old mattress she called a bed, head lowered and eyes wide, claws fiddling together.
“Sorry, sorry,” King said quickly, tucking his tail around his legs like a scolded cat. “I...is this a bad time? Should-should I get Eda…?”
“Huh?” Luz said dumbly, voice sounding hoarse as she turned to stare down at King, her body feeling weighted and numb.
“You, um…” King pointed to the side of his face, right under his eye.
Luz felt at her face, feeling instantly that she’d been crying. She quickly wiped at her eyes, breath raggedy as she tried to dry her face.
“Is...is it an episode?” King asked quietly. “Should I leave? I don’t want to--”
“No, no, it’s--” Luz sniffled, hating how her voice sounded and shaking her head, dropping her arm. “It's fine. Small one, mostly just...just a dream, really.” She said, cringing at how slow her movements felt as she leaned back against the wall her bed was pushed beside, attempting to shake off how it felt she was under an ocean.
“Oh...okay.” King said, staying right where he was, claws clinging to the edge of the bed as he looked away.
Luz closed her eyes in the ensuing silence, attempting to banish the memories from her head. It had been just a few days ago, and they’d finally made it back to the Owl House after all their walking and dodging the Coven only yesterday. Everything in between was a little hard for her to remember now that she thought about it. Probably for the best.
“I didn’t wake you up, did I?” Luz eventually asked when her head didn’t quite feel like it was going to roll off her shoulders.
“No, I just...wanted to visit.” King mumbled, avoiding her gaze.
Luz exhaled, forcing herself to bite back the desire to bury herself in her blankets and never see the light of day again, opening her arms slightly with a small, half crooked smile.
King noticed the invitation and took it instantly, scrambling up onto the bed and scurrying into her arms. He curled in her lap as she pulled him close, leaning her chin on the top of his head and exhaling heavily, only by force of will not slumping over and crushing him.
They stayed like that for a bit, waiting in the silence as Luz calmed herself down, clutching King tightly. If King was uncomfortable or had trouble breathing, he gave no indication. He stayed perfectly still and loose as Luz’s raspy breathing slowly calmed to something more manageable. It was late, but only just past dusk. The soft sounds of others in the house moving and talking softly on the floor below them could be heard if you strained your hearing.
“What brings you in here?” Luz finally asked, straightening her back a bit and squinting an eye, realizing King left the door open a crack and a sliver of light was seeping into the dark room.
King shrugged, a little comical considering Luz had wrapped her arms around his midsection like he was a teddy bear, his arms forced up a bit.
“Wanted to visit,” He repeated.
Luz didn’t seem convinced, but she didn’t push, slumping back against the wall and crossing her legs as she situated King in her lap. She knew King would break and tell her if she left it be for a moment. Sometimes he needed a moment to get his thoughts in order.
“Back when,” King paused again and Luz didn’t move, waiting patiently until he spoke again. “When you were talking with that demon guy…”
Luz looked down at him again, only able to see the back of his head and horns from this angle. He didn’t attempt to turn around and she didn’t do it herself.
“Your mom,” He tried a second time. “If we…” King stopped when Luz tensed, ever so slightly. He kept quiet for a moment before tilting his head back, still not enough for Luz to see his face. “When we find her,” He started again. “What’s...the plan after that?”
“What?” Luz blinked in confusion, loosening her hold on King to let him sit more comfortably in his lap.
“It’s just…” King said, turning halfway now that Luz could see his worried, contemplative face. “You always talk about how much you want to get back to your mom, because she must be worried sick about you, but...what are you gonna do after you find her?”
“...apologize for the next decade?” Luz tried, raising a brow in confusion. “Be grounded for the rest of my life?”
“I mean, just,” King struggled for another moment, leaning back against her leg and glaring up at the ceiling. “What...what are you gonna do when you're home again?” He asked quietly. “Is your mom coming to the Boiling Isles?”
“Oh, definitely not.” Luz snorted, shaking her head, not noticing his sudden reclusion. “My mom would freak out at this place. No, she’s a human realm type of human.”
“Then...are you staying with her?” King asked, drawing his limbs close to his body.
Luz watched him then, surprise evident on her face. King wasn’t looking at her, only the ceiling. He was already pretty small, but now he looked as though he was trying to make himself shrink even more.
“Course not,” Luz said softly, pulling King closer to her chest. “I love my mami, but the human realm isn’t for me. Never really has, if I’m being honest.”
“But you said your mom wouldn’t stay here,” King frowned, looking up at her now. “Are you going to stay separate again?”
“Well, no, that’s not,” Luz pursed her lips, frowning as she glanced to the side. “We...we’ll work something out. Maybe I could visit. Or...you know, it’ll depend on the portal, so we’ll have to see.” She decided on. “She’ll have to watch the tapes first.”
“So you don’t know, then?” King said simply, as if he was discussing common knowledge.
“I know I just...need to work out finer details.” Luz insisted. “Look, it’s fine, really. I’m not going anywhere.” She assured, drawing him up and giving a quick hug. “And I’m sure my mami would understand. I’m sure she remembers how crazy I was, this shouldn’t be that big of a surprise.”
She didn’t sound too convinced herself. King frowned, hooking his claws into her shirt and thus keeping her from pulling him away. He used his new leverage to give her a serious, no-nonsense expression that was honestly pretty cute on him. His nose almost touched hers.
“But don’t you miss it?” King asked, tilting his head. “I mean, you’re always talking about how different the human realm is from here and...how safer it is, really.” His eyes strayed, only for a moment, towards the edges of a scar that poked out of the collar of her shirt, one that he knew stretched far further along her arm and body like an angry, tangled thicket.
“I mean, nothings trying to kill you the moment you step outside, yeah, but the human realm isn’t perfect.” Luz said with a shrug. “If I’m being completely honest, if my mami wasn’t there, I don’t think I’d ever be trying to go back.” She said, sounding only slightly surprised at her revelation.
“But it's your home, isn’t it?” King insisted.
“My home,” Luz said, booping his nose as she sat him down on her crossed legs, taking a moment to pull his claws off her shirt. “Is where I decide it is. And it’s not there.” She said, giving him a small, soft smile. “But my mom is part of what I consider home, and I won’t be home until I find her. Does that make sense?” She asked, head turned.
“I...think so.” King said with a frown.
“Hey, at the end of the day,” Luz said, scratching at the fur just under his skull, the demon leaning into it. “Just know that, no matter how much the Emperor tries otherwise, you guys are stuck with me, okay? Getting back to my mom won’t change that.”
King curled closer to her hand, still appearing a little doubtful, but far more reassured than earlier. Luz giggled as she used her other hand to scratch at his side, the demon kicking out his back leg happily.
“And, who knows,” Luz continued. “Maybe we’ll find your dad, too. Ask him a few questions, figure things out with him.”
“He probably wouldn’t care,” King sighed, deflating a bit and going limp in Luz’s lap. “You’ve at least got memories of your mom. I don’t have any.”
“Then he’s missing out,” Luz said, swooping down to hug the demon and giggle at his squirming. “His loss, really. I’ll be sure to tell him that if we ever meet him.”
“Even if he looks as big and terrifying as his mural?” King asked, moving his head just slightly.
“Even if he looks scarier than his mural.” Luz said with a very serious nod.
“Alright,” King said with a tsk, shaking his head. “But I’m not responsible if you get stepped on.”
“That’s fair,”
The two smiled at each other, chuckling quietly as Luz turned and flopped back on her bed, jolting King before he crawled up and curled into a ball on her stomach. Luz smiled up at the ceiling, stroking a hand down his back. King nuzzled her hand, yawning as he shut his eyes, wrapping his small claws around her fingers.
She turned her head to the side, off towards the bundle of items she stashed at the other end of her room. Her eyes locked on the box of tapes under a pile of clothes, the words FOR MOM written as large as possible on the side in sharpie. Her smile fell, and she looked away from the box, face pinched.
“I hope your mom likes us,” King mumbled sleepily. “It won’t change anything if she doesn't, right?” He cracked open an eye, the yellow and purple glow looking eerie as he gazed at Luz.
“She’ll like you,” Luz assured quickly, forgoing answering his second question as she stroked her other hand over his skull and down his back. King shut his eyes again and purred in response, tail wagging. “She’ll like you.” She repeated, quieter, gently squeezing her fingers around King’s claws.
She didn’t speak after that. She did, however, tighten her hold on his back with her other hand, like she was afraid he’d get ripped out of her hands from a simple gust of wind. If she was squeezing him too tightly, he didn’t say anything.

Of Thrones Inherited, Chapter 2: Talk To
Summary: Three plans are made.
-_-
“I can’t believe-”
“I can!”
The Owl House living room was awash with laughter. All of the pillows and blankets had been dragged down to create some kind of nest where Willow and Luz sat. Eda was out of the house with King and Hooty to visit her parents, so the girls were alone in their sleepover.
And it was the most fun Luz could ever imagine.
Even though she’d had several sleepovers since coming to the Boiling Isles, Luz still couldn’t get over it. She had never had been invited to sleepovers back on Earth. Any tries on her part had been ignored. But here… here she had friends. Actual friends.
Which only made it harder to determine which realm she wanted to stay in without speaking to her mother.
“Oh wow,” she said now, leaning back. “I mean, your poor dad but that must’ve been hilarious.” Willow had been recounting her fathers’ latest attempts to help with her plant magic. This time had involved one of them leaning too close to a flower that sprouted hallucination-inducing thorns and the other two had been forced to deal with his drunken shenanigans for the rest of the day.
“I mean, it was in hindsight, but then… wow.” Willow sighed contently, resting her hands in her lap. The two descended into an easy silence, Luz taking the break to take a sip of her tea. With that, Willow said something that made her freeze. “Amity’s supposed to come back next school day.”
Luz froze.
...Amity.
It had been a few weeks since their adventure in the library. Since Amity had kissed her on the cheek. Amity hadn’t returned to school in those weeks, not even after Luz’s first adventure with the Golden Guard.
She was probably avoiding her.
She couldn’t bring herself to be upset. Luz would avoid herself too.
“Oh,” she said awkwardly. “She is?”
Willow sighed and then gripped Luz’s shoulders. “Luz,” she said in that voice she couldn’t help but pay attention to. “You and Amity need to talk.” She opened her mouth. “No buts. I just…” She sighed. “You know Gus and I are getting kinda sick of watching you two but I hate to see you upset.”
“...I know.”
Willow gently cradled her chin, forcing her to meet her eyes. “Promise me you’ll sit down and talk with Amity?”
Luz nodded, unable to do anything else, even if she knew it would just end in heartbreak.
“I promise to talk to Amity.”
-_-
Unknown to many of the residents of the palace, the palace had secret passages.
They were carefully hidden from anyone outside the circle of trust. For these passages were much, much closer to any of the Titan’s organs, excluding the emperor’s throne. So far, the only ones who knew of their existence were Kikimora, the Emperor, and the Golden Guard.
The latter two descended down one of these passages.
Hunter was still gaping at the fact that, apparently, Luz was part of his uncle’s plans. “I thought you didn’t like the human.” he finally said, breaking the silence. He hadn’t been able to say the words when they were in the throne room, certainly not when Belos had beckoned him to follow. “Didn’t she defeat you?”
“And that was the result of my own arrogance.” his uncle said, voice calm and steady. “I looked down at her and saw an ant instead of a lioness. Her coming was the will of the Isles and I fear that, if I may harm her, the Titan will come down on my head.” They reached a door and Belos pushed it open.
The door led to a simple room. It was dark with the only light coming from a cauldron. Belos and Hunter arranged themselves around it. “I know my health is failing.” his uncle said simply. He moved to shake his head and deny it, but he pressed on. “It is. I believe my curse will overtake me soon enough. But, if I pass before the Day of Unity, it is important to have plans set up in case.”
“But-”
“I have tried my best to mold you. To become the greatest version of yourself, but I know that there is potential there. Potential I have missed.” He swallowed back the lump in his throat and tried to not think about Rascal. “Potential that I will miss flourishing. But… you do not have the will.”
“I…” It was true. Of course, it was if his uncle stated it so calmly.
“But the human has it in spades.” Belos waved his hand over the cauldron and it began to bubble. “Her strength comes from kindness. So willing to sacrifice her own well-being to help others.” An image appeared in the cauldron- one of their run-ins, where Luz had shielded him from a creature’s claws, breaking her arm. Hunter had managed to finish the fight and had gotten her to a nearby Healer’s, where her arm was soon fixed. “But, compassion is her strength. She will pause, hesitate at taking the necessary steps.”
Hunter nodded.
“I trust in you that task, to make sure she has the strength to help lead.” The image disappeared to be replaced by a key. The key to the portal. “She will bring us the key eventually. And, when she does, I will explain her role in our plans. And when I pass…”
Another image.
This one, of them, older and dressed in similar white robes. Sitting on his uncle’s throne, staring down at the utopia Belos wanted so badly to create.
“I trust that our people will be in good hands.”
The image faded and the liquid bubbled.
Something floated up to the surface. The lump returned when Hunter was gestured to pick it up.
It was a mask. It looked to be a combination of his own mask and Lilith Clawthorne’s own. Golden patterns decorated the white mask, golden ribbons streaming from the ends. Hunter stared at it, gulping as he imagined Luz’s brown eyes staring coldly out of the silts.
“Thank you, Uncle.” he finally managed.
He needed to talk to Luz.
-_-
Outside the secret room, Kikimora fumed.
She had peeked inside the throne room when she failed to hear any sounds of punishment. She had been imagining such horrible things happening to the little brat… but there had been nobody there. Until she noticed the secret passage.
And now…
Unbelievable.
Hunter was a clear traitor. Luz Noceda was a clear threat to the system her emperor had worked so hard to create. And now both were being rewarded for it.
Well, she wouldn’t allow that.
Kikimora turned and stalked up the stairs.
She had people to talk to.

I kinda wrote a mom eda fic, cause I wanted to try writing. This is like the first fic I've ever writen so keep in mind it's not gonna be perfect.. but I'm happy how it turned out.. so here!
Some honesty before breakfast
To say Eda had noticed something off with her apprentice, would be an understatement.
Luz's cheery attitude had all but disappeared for the past two days, and instead had been replaced with a quite sadness that followed the girl wherever she went in the house. Her smiles seemed forced, never quite reaching her eye's, lacking the warmth and joy they usually had.
Eda knew she should have seen this coming, the slow change in luz's demeanour. The portal had been destroyed a month ago, but she'd been too caught up in mourning the loss of her magic, processing the cluster fuck that had been the last few months and adjusting to her older sister taking up residency in her shed, she hadn't noticed.
She should have acted sooner.
Because Eda now watched Luz half heartedly engage in her and King's infamous and dreaded "comedy hour" with all the enthusiasm of Lilith on hooty's cleaning day.
"Luz, you're not paying attention!" King whined, "my food puns are genius, and not even a smirk!
"Come on, this is some of my best material!" The tiny demon added, dropping what was left of his toast onto his plate.
"Sorry king, I was paying attention" Luz assured pushing her untouched breakfast away "I was just thinking as well, that's all.."
"Sounds like not paying attention to me" He grumbled.
Sounds like a terrible cover up.
Eda finished the last of her Appleblood, pushed away from the counter she was leaning on and picked King up earning a "nyee" from him as she placed him on the floor.
"why don't you go play with your army of dolls or something?" Eda told him.
"They're my army of darkness!" He corrected "and its not playing, it's scheming. machinating if you will"
"Whatever, go do that. I need to talk to Luz" She sighed.
Luz shifted in her seat, and went to leave.
"Actually, I have a ton of homework so-"
"Nope" Eda cut the girl off "you stay, king go" she ordered
King muttered something about world domination as he scurried off, and Luz and Eda were left alone of the kitchen.
"So.. is this about potions delivery's?" Luz asked "because I know I haven't been doing the deliveries alot lately and-"
"Kid, what?-no, that isn't what this is about"
Luz fidgeted with the string of her hoody "then, what is this about?"
"You tell me, you've been acting weird lately- well weirder than usual" Eda said, taking Kings seat at the table and pushing his leftovers aside.
"Its not that big a deal, really" Luz said, but the waver in her voice betrayed her.
Titan help her.
Eda sighed and rubbed her eyes "Look, I'm not an idiot kid, I know somethings up, and I know the past month has been rough. For everyone"
And here comes the emotional mush..
"I know it can't be easy" Eda continued, trying to choose her next words carefully.
"Living under the same roof as Lilith after what's happened, or adjusting to all this crap, the portal door being destroyed.."
Titan she had no clue what she was doing. How do you comfort people?
"But I want you to know that whatever the problem is, I'm here to help. it matters if it upsets you" Eda told her "and I'll be hexed if I'll let my kid suffer in silence"
"So what's bothering you?"
They sat there for a moment. Eda wasn't sure if her lackluster attempt at reassurance had helped the girl, she searched Luz's face for any signs of what she might be thinking.
Finally, Luz let out in a shakey breath "I miss my mom"
Ah, shit. Of course, the poor kid missed her mother. She really should have guessed that.
"I destroyed the door, to stop belos and- and to save you" Luz's voice cracked " but I miss her.. y'know? .. when things would go wrong back home, she was always there, she knew what to do..." Tears started well in her eyes and spill out onto her cheeks.
Luz sucked in a breath of air " I don't know what to do..the doors gone, and it's my fault and she's probably really worried about me, and its MY fault.
"Im scared I'll never see her again. Eda, I miss my home. I miss my mom"
Of course. None of this was Luz's fault though. Not really. It was Eda's. She was the adult and should have sent her home that first day. But she was selfish and now Luz was paying the price.
"I don't regret saving you though" She continued, and Eda blinked in surprise.
"Leaving you guys behind was never an option. being here with you and King.. its kinda like home here too" Another shakey breath.
"I know I shouldn't complain 'cause I did this to my self but-" Luz's voice cut off and gave way to sobbing.
Eda didn't know how it happened but she found herself at the other side of the table, wrapping Luz up in one of those "parallel arm" things.
She scooped the girl up easily and sat her on her lap, holding her close as Luz continued to cry. This poor kid, who'd brought so much light into Eda's life, Changed it for the better, magic be damned, was suffering and there was no way in hell Eda was going to stand back and watch her blame herself.
Luz had given up everything.
In one of the few times where Eda felt compeled to do the right thing, Eda vowed to herself she'd make this right.
"Luz" The witch said with a softness that surprised herself "None of this is your fault, it's OK to be upset"
"it's my fault not yours, I want- no. need you to know that. I'm gonna fix this. I'll find a way to get you back home, and you'll be able to see your mom again" she said, stroking her hair.
"I promise"
Luz looked up from where she had her head buried in Eda's sweater, her eyes were red rimmed and puffey. Luz rubbed at her eyes, and sniffed.
"You promise?" Luz asked, voice horse.
Eda nodded, brushing some of luz's hair back, fixing it.
"I promise, and that's a promise from the most powerful witch on the boiling Isles, kiddo. it's a big deal, infact you should feel kinda honoured"
Luz laughed. And there it was. That smile that had been missing for so long. Eda wasn't going to let anything happen to it again.
"I kind of ruined your sweater" Luz said apologetically as she pulled away.
Eda looked down at her sweater. yep. Human snot. Gross as all hell.
"Don't worry about it, I didn't like the sweater anyway"
Yes she did.
Luz jumped off of Eda's lap "how do you feel now?" Eda asked
"better" Luz smiled, rubbing her eyes still.
"Good, I can't have my apprentice's in emotional distress" eda smirked "it'd be bad for business"
"I'm your only apprentice" Luz shot back grinning.
"details" Eda waved her hand dismissively.
Eda looked at her now. She wasn't crying anymore, which was good. Eda could still see residual tears, but Luz was smiling, no matter how small it was, she was actually smiling again, and that was what mattered.
A loud definitive gurgle sounded through out the room.
"I never ate breakfast" Luz whispered sheepishly.
Luz turned back to her breakfast cereal to see it had long since turned to disgusting mush in the bowl.
"i'll eat something else.." She decided heading towards the cupboards.
Eda had an idea.
"We could make something"
Luz perked up.
"Really?!"
"I mean, yeah why not?" Eda shrugged " I haven't eaten yet and-"
"Can we make pancakes?!" The girl asked with barely contained excitement "I can dress King up in a little chefs outfit, and we could have pancakes!"
"Um.."
"I have so much prep work to do!" Luz exclaimed as she dashed out the door.
"Kid!" Eda called
"Yeah?" Luz popped her head back in the door.
"Don't forget that if your ever worried about anything at all, you can talk to me. I meant what I said, I'm here to help"
"I know, thanks Eda. I love you" and she was gone.
Eda blinked.
"I love you too, Luz"

Keeping Up A-fear-ance's Thoughts
I finished writing this shortly after 3 am after watching the new episode like three times because I simply had too much energy about it and I have so many thoughts because I simply live for clawthornes and also I tried to break it up with more photos this time sorry not sorry if it's a lot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
YOUNG EDA!! let me just say I am quite a fan of opening with a flashback like we've done here and the last episode
"we have never seen a curse like this before" Lilith you had shit luck picking out curses huh
"cut it out if we have to" goddamn Gwen let'a calm the fuck down a bit.
anyways we've only really seen young Eda as a wild and confident and happy little child so I appreciate seeing this side of her with the anxiety and fear she's feeling here. I love seeing what the curse stuff was like for her as a kid
Gwen: I raised a perfectly fine kid
Me: no you didn't look at her she's got anxiety
I'm guessing this is their backyard or just some woods behind their house?? wonder if the portal was placed there by another elder family member.
lmao I can't even begin to imagine what small Eda experiencing the human realm was like for the first time
Gwens giving me "I can't accept that my child is disabled/chronically ill/etc." here. y’know the kinda parent that'll put their kid through hell over something they probably will find a way to learn to live with (which Eda did do)
ok that's it I humbly request to know the story behind the fang now (also the noise she made when she put it in was freaking cute)
new dress! new boots! new dress! new boots!
..yikes that fridge is empty
"calm down the curse acts stronger when you're stressed" Eda do you know who you're talking to here
confirmation losing limbs is in fact a side effect of the curse!! (y'know since Eda originally said it just happens when you get older)
please I love these sisters they're so sweet and make me wanna go 🥺
"suddenly curious about my past" "always. always curious" Luz says exactly what we all think
witchlet?? sweet flea?? she's got pet names for them 🥺 (although idk how much I'd like to be referred to as any kind of flea sorry Lilith)
ok Gwen is very much not close to what I expected and I'm kinda grateful for that
she's more like super caring but still managed to royally fuck up which was my original head canon for clawthorne parents so uh that's cool. but literally, look at their body language, Eda's pissed, Lilith's sad and making herself small. she's clearly messed up with her parenting on both of them along the way.
"who knows what they put in those nasty concoctions?" mama clawthorne would be a fucking anti-vaxxer wouldn't she
ok I side with Eda here more than Luz and Lilith. just because Luz misses her mother, or Lilith hasn’t seen their mom in so long doesn’t mean Eda has to feel all grateful for the presence of Gwen, especially if the woman has caused her a lot of trouble over the years
I feel like the fact that its actually both Lilith and Gwendolyn have spent their whole lives dedicated to trying to find a cure could probably have held some kind of weight on Eda at some point. Even though she shouldn't feel guilty or responsible for that, I still feel like it's gotta suck knowing these people have spent so much time on something you know is likely never gonna happen, all for you.
Lilith 😞 her mother really just didn't pay attention to her all these years
hey if this guy does some next level healing magic then why isn't he more well-known, huh? why’d it take so long to come across him?? Gwen do you know what the fuck you're doing cause I think you don't
Lilith just because you're depressed about your mom doesn't mean you have to bring king down too 😠
SUPER irrelevant but is anyone else just bothered by the way Lilith is holding her spoon?? that doesn't seem like a comfortable way to hold a spoon. also is she left handed??
"knife season came early" EDA WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. is this a boiling isles things or is this a it’s common for people to throw knives at you thing
also I want to be surprised Eda fell for the apple blood signs but I am not 😔
Luz please trust you're gut on this one and not mama clawthorne
ok now I need to know why the fridge was empty but they had 18 cartons of ice cream this is why you guys don't have food you're wasting it all on ice cream.
wow never thought I'd see the day hooty became the voice of reason
also, night market ice cream?? are they implying this ice cream is like, edibles of some sort?? Lilith does seem kinda high here ngl. idk man but at least she wants to stand up for herself so good for her.
PLEASE kings just offering her ice cream while she transforms
"first in a series" Gwen honey oh no. you've been duped. I think we can see where Lilith got her naïveté from huh.
Also, nice snatch Luz 😊
anyways love how this show is basically making fun of moms who refuse to give their kids proper medical treatment or listen to medical professionals here
EXCUSE ME why do we know Gwen's palisman's name before we know Lilith's?????
"I am a mother who'll do anything for her daughter" you're mom who's suffocating obsession with one daughter has left the other neglected and is currently causing her to turn into a full on beast ya dummy
Eda DOES have a right to be upset. it sucks that her own valid emotions that she should get to feel will cause her while body to betray her.
PLEASE I’M SO GLAD LILITH’S BEAST DESIGN LOOKS LIKE HER AND IS NOT THE THING FROM THE TRAILER THAT IS ACTUALLY IN EDA"S HEAD WHEN SHE’S TRANSFORMED
but also why is she SO massive?? also anyone concerned that this is her first transformation and the light glyph trick wouldn't even work??
Gwen look at what you've done, you've fostered feelings of inferiority in one daughter causing her to feel the need for sibling rivalry that the pure instincts of the raven beast cannot suppress no matter how much their sisterly relationship had improved.
HOW COULD YOUR OTHER DAUGHTER ALSO BEING CURSED BE A PART OF THE PROCESS GWEN??
"after Eda was cursed, I joined the beast keeping coven" woah woah WOAH. you're telling me you only joined because of trying to help Eda. that covens existed, before Eda got cursed, and you very much weren't a part of one. combine that with "some words for belos" she has and do I smell wild witch theory still plausible???
anyways at least mama clawthorne is getting some sense into her head here
Morton c'mon help a girl out, that's some dang good art too what the heck dude
ok fine mama clawthorne to the rescue
no pls not raven beast Lilith crying im crying now
Gwen: I raised a fine and self-sufficient child
Me: no you didn't look at her. she's got, SO MUCH.
GODDAMN THATS SOME POWER. ngl this only adds fuel to the fire in my head that there was some kinda reasoning these sisters were torn apart, that someone felt they'd be too powerful together (and they were probably right)
"I heard you but I couldn't stop myself, I couldn't do anything" may be just because she's not used to the curse but again part of me is concerned that because she couldn't pull herself out of it even a little bit like Eda did that there's something wrong there. but she also could've been stressed beyond reasonably calming herself down too.
ok but this is sweet
NOOO im so sad Lilith's leaving :( I literally cried ok
"you lived here?" fine OKAY king that was hilarious even if im sad about this
"reconnect with dad" excuse me where the fuck has this man been in the middle of all of this. curse shit is going DOWN and he's just chilling at home.
I am curious about people's thoughts regarding the whole Lilith regression thing and the fact that she's literally going to be living with her parents again. I feel like it could help nurture that inner child she's been reverting back to and help her out a LOT. but I could also be concerned about it feeding into the regression and making it worse?? idk and this show probably ain't getting that actually deep into psych anyways
"some day my hair is gonna be big enough to do that too" Luz I cannot wait for the day. also mood, I wish I could do that too.
alright who's holding the fucking pen for hooty we need a volunteer RIGHT NOW so we can remain in contact with Lulu
NOT THE ONLY HUMAN? my bets on the real azura rip never mind she said he
Titan’s Blood?? interesting. If the blood of the titan is around I wonder what that means regarding the titans existence, and how long its been since the titan fell.
AHH BABY LUZ PHOTO
ALSO WHO THE FUCK IS THAT?? They're really gonna spring that on us like this??? Camila's gotta notice somethings wrong right??? Unless any differences she just chalks up to the camp?? oh god :(
well, anyways lumity shippers come get yo juice next weekend
anyways im gonna need to add a NOT canon compliant tag on that one Gwendolyn fic I wrote because it definitely do not comply anymore

From Nightmares to Dreams (Part 1/3)
Fandom: The Owl House
Chapter synopsis: Luz has a horrible morning which Amity helps remedy.
Author’s note: This fic is the first long-form work of fiction I have written in five years and would not have been possible without the encouragement and support of @sterling-jay. This fic was inspired, however, by @notbirdofprey who asked me: “How do you think Luz and Amity will get together?” Please be aware that my answer to this question involves a lot of angst on both Luz’s and Amity’s part; and, as a result, this fic is relatively angsty. I hope you enjoy it.
- - -
Luz jolted awake, feeling dizzy and uncomfortably warm. She threw her blanket off her and sat up to rub her face. It was slick with some sort of wetness. “Oh,” she groaned. She must have been crying in her sleep. Again.
Suddenly aware of herself, she looked down at her feet. King wasn’t there and her door was closed. He must had left at some point during the night. She laid back down. “At least he didn’t see me this time,” she said quietly.
She prodded around her cot for her phone, finding it after a few moments. She sniffled and wiped her eyes again before powering the phone up. The right-top corner of her lock screen stated the obvious: “No Service.” After hesitating for a few seconds, she opened her messages.
She spent a few minutes reading through old conversations with her mom. It didn’t make her feel better. If anything, it made her feel guilty. Her mother’s messages were caring and warm. She asked if she was having a good evening, if she liked that day’s camp activities, if she was enjoying the food, if she was looking forwards to tomorrow, and so on. In contrast, Luz’s replies were generally short and impersonal. A lot of yeahs, yeps, and nopes. An occasional emoji. Few genuine responses.
She put her phone down and looked up to the ceiling. Even with the moonlight streaming in from her window, it was hard to make the beams out. After a few minutes of holding back, she let herself cry.
“I’m sorry, Mami. I’m sorry I can’t tell you that I’m okay. I’m sorry I can’t tell you that I’m safe. That I’m not missing. That I didn’t run away.” Her tears grew heavier. “I’m sorry I lied to you. I’m sorry I’m making you worry. I’m sorry for being a bad daughter. You’ve always tried to be a good mom and you don’t deserve this.”
Luz cried until her eyes burned. When she destroyed the teleporter door, she had thought Eda might be able to send her home using magic or by taking her to some special place on the isles. But several weeks ago, Eda had sat down with her on the roof of the Owl House and explained the gravity of her situation: that the door was the only way she knew of to travel between the human realm and the demon realm, and that without the ability to cast spells she wasn’t sure if she would be able to send her home.
She had only barely stopped herself from breaking down. It helped that Eda had taken her hands and, looking directly into her eyes, promised that she would do everything in her power to try to return her home someday. And she had kept that promise so far, spending several hours every other day pouring over books with Lilith.
She wished Eda’s promise was enough to keep her fears under control, but it just wasn't. She kept a decent face up when around Eda and her friends. But when she was by herself, she couldn’t keep the act up. The idea that she might never see her mother again was overwhelming and terrifying. But even worse was the possibility that her mother might think that she disappeared on purpose.
Eventually, her eyes ran dry. Dawn broke soon after.
“I guess I should get up,” she thought. After a few minutes of sniffling and wiping her eyes, she rose from her cot, activated a few light glyphs, and dressed herself. Once done, a realization hit her: “My eyes! Crying makes your eyes puffy, right?”
The closest mirror was in the bathroom down the hall, but she couldn’t risk running into Lilith or King. If she ran into either of them, they would ask questions, and Eda would find out and start worrying about her again, and she didn’t want that. “What do I do? What do I do?” Luz repeated to herself.
She activated another light glyph to help her think. The light reflected off a small object lying nestled in the blanket on her cot. Her phone. “My phone!” she exclaimed in a hushed voice. She walked over to her cot, snatched her phone, and unlocked it with a swipe.
“Okay, how bad could it be?” She opened the front-facing camera. Her stomach clenched.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and it looked like someone had filed the skin under her eyes with abomination goo. “No, no, no, no, no. This is bad, this is so bad.” She pulled and pushed at the fleshy mounds trying to get them to recede. Her attempts did nothing.
The morning sun was already starting to brighten. She needed to act fast. She would need to leave for Hexside within the hour and there was no way she could avoid everyone on her way out. “What do I do? What do I do!”
Luz had no idea how to do anything involving her face. She had never been very interested in make-up and even she had been she didn’t think she could just slap some concealer on her face (not that she had any) and call it a day. She needed help, fast.
“Okay, okay.” She looked to the phone in her hand. “No that’s not going to help, I don’t have service here.” She tossed the phone on her cot and started pacing around the room. Muffled sounds began to emanate through her bedroom walls. The other residents of the Owl House were out of their rooms.
“Oh, I know!” Luz ran over to her school bag and dredged out the small scroll Eda had given her for her birthday. “Penstagram!” She tapped on the scroll and it bounced out of her hand and into the air, unfurled and glowing faintly purple. She grabbed it, thinking about her next move.
“I can’t ask Gus or Willow for help,” Luz thought, grimacing. They were already worried about her enough. Just yesterday, Willow had pressed her about why she had been especially quiet lately. It took their entire walk home to convince her that she was just stressed about homework and helping Eda learn glyph magic.
She didn’t think she could ask Viney or Skara for help either. She had gotten to know each girl better through classes at Hexside, but she didn’t really know either of them that well. And this was a bit too personal to spring on either of them.
That left Amity.
Luz blinked and took a long breath. She had been spending more and more time with Amity lately. On one of her better days last week, she had convinced Eda to let her, Amity, Gus, and Willow to have a “Azura Movie Night Sleepover Extravaganza!” at the Owl House after Eda found a DVD player in a trash worm. She and Amity had ended up cuddling on the couch under a blanket. And it felt so nice.
Amity was warm, and soft, and her hair smelt like wildflowers and sea salt, and Luz had been terrified that her heart was going to jab through her chest and explode on Amity’s back. But eventually, somehow, she managed to fall asleep with her in her arms. But when she woke up, Amity had already dressed in her day clothes and was eating breakfast with Eda. Every time she had tried to talk to her since then Amity had kept the conversation short or turned her head away and said she had something she needed to do or gave some other reason to leave quickly. Luz didn’t know what to think of it.
But that was then, and this was now. Luz had no one else to turn too, and out of all her friends she figured Amity would be the most likely to know how to deal with her situation. She pulled up Amity’s profile and sent a DM.
@glyphwitch (07:03:51): Amity I need your help!!! IT’S URGENT!!!!
@witchchick128 (07:04:27): Luz, what is it? Are you okay?
@glyphwitch (07:05:11): I don’t have time to explain but I need to get rid of these HUGE bags I have under my eyes (don’t ask please) and I have no idea how to deal with them but I need eda to not find out about them and I don’t know what to do and I thought you might and I just don’t want to worry eda about me so please help me
Luz snaped a picture of her face to Amity and dropped herself onto her cot. One minute passed. Luz heard Eda and Lilith having some sort of argument in the kitchen. They were constantly arguing about one thing or another these days. Another minute passed. The argument was now a three-way shouting match between Eda, Lilith, and Hooty. Based solely on volume, Hooty was winning.
Suddenly, the scroll vibrated against her leg. She snatched it up and tapped it. Again, it sprang to life.
@witchchick128 (07:08:34): I’m so sorry, Luz. Mother pulled me away for a tuft of my hair...
@witchchick128 (07:09:13): So, are they like that because of a magical or non-magical cause?
@witchchick128 (07:09:32): You eyes, I mean. Sorry, I wasn’t clear.
@witchchick128 (07:09:43): Your*
Luz laughed despite her situation.
@glyphwitch (07:10:12): non-magical
@glyphwitch (07:10:39): I was, uhhh. crying. a lot… but I’m okay now! really
@witchchick128 (07:11:16): Okay. Do you have any abrasion ointment from the Healing Coven?
@glyphwitch (07:11:42): no. I can’t leave my room or the others might see me
@witchchick128 (07:12:15): Alright. Let me think.
@witchchick128 (07:12:58): You haven’t discovered any glyphs that cast any illusion spells yet, right?
@glyphwitch (07:13:09): no, not yet
@witchchick128 (07:13:41): Okay, so you can’t conceal your eyes with magic. But I’ve seen you summon columns of ice before. Can you use your glyphs to make a bunch of small ice cubes?
@glyphwitch (07:13:53): yeah, I think so
@witchchick128 (07:14:38): Okay, do that. Then get two of your shirts and use them to make two cold compresses. Hold them under your eyes for five minutes. It should make the swelling disappear. If anyone asks you why your eyes are red, just tell them you were up late reading and only got a few hours of sleep.
@glyphwitch (07:14:56): oh my god, thank you Amity!!!
@glyphwitch (07:15:09): you're the best!
Luz shoved the scroll in her bag, then pulled out a pencil and piece of paper and got to work. After a few-second’s thought, she drew a moderately-sized plant glyph surrounded by three inter-connected tiny ice glyphs. She activated the ice glyphs first, creating three tall but slender pillars of ice. Then, concentrating her intent into her hand, she activated the plant glyph. A thick vine with several stems emerged from the paper and wrapped its tendrils around each ice pillar, crushing them into small pieces.
“Yes, it worked!” she said joyfully, impressed with herself. “What next? Oh right, the shirts.” She dashed over to her dirty clothes pile, grabbed the two least objectionable shirts visible, then dashed back over to her cot. Working quickly, she made two compresses using the ice littering the floor, lied back on her cot, and pressed the compresses onto her eyes.
A minute passed without interruption. Then Luz heard her door handle jiggle, followed by a quiet thud. She heard it a second time, and then a third. The fourth time she understood. King was trying to open the door. Before she could call out, she heard a solid impact with the door, followed by a metallic click and a final small thud.
The door began to open. “Luz, get up! It’s almost time for…”
Acting on pure instinct she streaked out of bed and flew against the door, slamming it shut and screaming, “King, don’t come in! I’m naked!” As she spoke, she heard something hard impact the wall across the hall.
“Ow! Jeez, I get it! Gross! How was I supposed to know!?” King shouted through the door. “I get that you wanted to protect me from a potentially scarring experience, but did you have to slam the door so hard? I can feel my brain spinning around inside of my skull! All I wanted to tell you was that breakfast is almost ready! Sheesh!”
“Sorry, King! I’m uh, just. Really self-conscious! I didn’t mean to hurt you.” She paused and looked behind her. In her panic, she had strewn ice everywhere. She rolled her eyes, sighed, and looked back to the door. “I woke up a little late, okay? I still need to get ready. I’ll be down in like ten minutes.”
“Ten whole minutes! Really!?”
“Yes, really! And if you keep talking to me it’s going to take me even longer!”
“Ugh, fine. Whatever, just hurry up, will you? I’m starving and Lilith cooked today so breakfast actually looks good for once!”
She heard his little footsteps trod away. When she was certain he was gone she locked the door and got to work reassembling the cold compresses.

Moonlit Masquerade: Moonlit Forever After Finale
Luz adjusted her tie for the fourth time in as many minutes. She is so. Fucking. Nervous.
They’re due to start in a matter of ten minutes and she’d taken her place beneath the tree with Lilith, who is looking over a small paper with notes on it when she glanced up at Luz’s constant fidgeting.
“Are you alright, Luz?” she questioned her quietly.
“I don’t know... I’m just… really nervous,” she said, playing with her fingers.
“That’s understandable,” The eldest Clawthorne nodded. “It is a big change, even if you two have already been living together for three years now, but there’s no reason to be nervous, Amity would be pleased if you showed up in your pajamas,” Lilith chuckled to herself but Luz still looks like she wanted to throw up.
Lilith hummed thoughtfully, the girl needed a distraction before she blew her lunch onto the floor, and considering who she’s marrying, Lilith decides to share something with Luz that even Eda doesn’t know.
“Luz, did you know I was in love once,” she finally said and Luz whipped to look at her, eyes blown wide.
“What, you!?” She blinked and Lilith huffed a laugh under her breath, cocking a brow at her. “I mean, you’re great and all!… I just never expected that… but, oh wow… backstory; tell me!” she grinned and Lilith rolled her eyes.
“Yes, before I joined the emperor’s coven, there was a boy, but… after I was accepted, I was so consumed with guilt about what I did to Edalyn I threw everything I had into rising in the coven’s ranks so I could find her cure that I inevitably ended up letting that relationship wither on the vine and he moved onto someone else.” she frowned, eyes distant. “Just one of the many things I regret.”
“Oh, wow. I’m sorry, Lily.” Luz frowned.
“It was my own fault, everything that has plagued my life has been a mess of my own creation. I regret many things, but nothing will change them now, I simply must live with them.” Lilith gave a small shrug. “That’s one thing I can never make up for now.”
“Anyone I know?” she asked and then watched, fascinated as Lilith’s face flushed a little.
“Yes, actually… you’re rather familiar with this man.” she glanced away and now Luz was intrigued.
“Who?”
“Your soon to be father-in-law.”
Luz choked on her own spit at that.
“Alador Blight!?” she cried and the guests look at her curiously before going back to talking amongst themselves. Lilith is red-faced. “You used to date Alador?” Luz doesn’t know what else to say to that.
“Yes,” Lilith nodded and Luz suddenly remembered something.
“Is that who you went to the fall shower with way back when?” She knows she hit it square on the head when Lilith darkened further.
“I can’t believe you remembered that,” The older witch mumbled and Luz chuckled. She and Amity had gone to watch the fall shower again just two weeks ago and this triggered the memory.
“Wow… plot twist, I never saw that coming…”
Lilith just hummed. Luz pressed a hand to her chin, thinking.
“He really took a downgrade didn’t he…?” she asked thoughtfully, which made Lilith blink before laughing.
“I won’t speak ill of Odalia, despite my less than pleasant feelings about her, though, that has much more to do with Amity than Alador.”
“I will, she’s a bitch,” Luz scowled and Lilith snorted.
Luz suddenly has so many questions, was that why Lilith had taken Amity on as her pupil as a kid? Or was it just because Amity was powerful and had nothing to do with any previous romantic feelings for her dad?
She doesn’t have time to ask them though, it seems Lilith’s ploy to distract her worked because Willow is peeking out from behind the curtain and giving them a thumbs up. The moon is overhead now; it’s time.
“Ready?” Lilith smiled.
“No!” Luz hissed, and her palms are starting to sweat. She is so not ready by any stretch of the imagination!
A lilting piano starts to play, It’s nothing like the classic wedding march she is familiar with, but it’s pretty, though the soothing melody does absolutely nothing for her jangling nerves. She glanced at her moms in the front row behind her and Camila smiled while Eda gave her a fanged grin and a thumbs up and mouthed ‘You got this’. She wiped her sweaty hands on her pants, hopefully, that won’t stain...
She straightened and took a deep breath, ready or not, here she went.
The curtains pulled aside and Gus and Willow appeared, linked arm in arm, they smiled brightly as they made their way down the aisle, followed a few moments later by Viney and Emira, and in the back of her mind, Luz knows that it’s their wedding she’ll be attending next. Viney had already confided in her three months ago that she’d bought a ring, but she wanted to wait a little while after their wedding to propose, the last thing she wanted to do was upstage the two of them, which Luz appreciated.
She snorted, nerves abated a bit when Edric and King came walking down the aisle, King was adorable in his little blue vest.
“Are you ready?” Gus whispered in her ear as he came to stand at her side.
She made a distressed sound in the back of her throat and across from her, Willow smiled as he quickly patted her shoulder.
The music changed and the guests turned to look while Luz swallowed thickly. Then Amity appeared, arm wrapped through Alador’s.
Luz sucked in a sharp breath, stunned speechless.
She doesn’t think anyone in any realm has ever looked as beautiful as Amity does right now, and no one ever could. Her mouth is bone dry, but her mother was right, she’s not nervous anymore, her entire body is tingling as her gaze locked with Amity’s, whose smiling that little smile Luz knew so well.
Her mother was right about the dress too.
The whole situation smacked her like a raging slitherbeast and she’s trying to blink away the tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. How did she get this lucky? She has no concrete answer but is happy she did all the same.
Amity doesn’t know how she keeps moving down the aisle, because once her eyes land on Luz they feel like jelly. Her brother hadn’t been kidding and she should have been more prepared, though she doesn’t think she could have ever been prepared for this.
Luz has always cut a sharp, immaculate profile when she actually gave an effort, but their’s something almost ethereal about her as she is now, the white of her suit almost glows beneath the soft light of the blue moon and the light spells that float in the air around them. Her heart is beating hard against her ribs, but it’s not nerves that make it skip a beat. It’s the staggering wave of amazement and affection she feels for Luz, who she can tell now that she’s close enough to see, is doing her damnedest to hold back her tears. She recognized that scrunched up, rapidly blinking expression anywhere. It makes her own eyes sting.
Finally, she’s standing close enough to touch and her father smiled at her as Luz held out her hand and Amity gently pulled her arm from his to slip her hand into Luz’s. Alador nodded to Luz before slipping himself into his seat in the front row across from Camila and Eda.
“Hey.” Luz’s voice is barely a whisper that only Amity can hear.
“Hey, yourself.” she smiled back, voice just as low.
They don’t even hear Lilith as she began to speak to the crowd about why they’re all here and all the ceremonial spiel that is the norm at a wedding on the Boiling Isles.
Amity’s hand is warm in hers and Luz squeezed it gently, running her thumb over her knuckles. She’s still in awe, unable to take her eyes off Amity and how beautiful she is in that dress, under the blue moon’s light
She’s absolutely bewitching and Luz would gladly live under her spell for the rest of her life.
Amity is just as spellbound as Luz, watching the pink glow that the light spells are refracting from the grom tree bounce off Luz’s dark eyes, making them look alive as a gentle breeze rustles the tree’s blush-colored leaves. The shadows cast by the lights cut sharp lines across her jaw and neck that make Amity want to reach out and run her fingertips along them.
“....and they will now speak these promises to each other,” Lilith read loudly, jerking the two of them out of their love induced haze. How long had they been zoned out, staring at each other? Judging from the subtle smirk on Lilith’s face, a while.
“Amity, you may now say your vows,” Lilith said and she nodded, letting go of Luz’s right hand and pulling a small slip of paper from her pocket taking a deep breath, she could feel everyone’s eyes on her, but the only important ones were staring straight at her, smiling, no pressure in those warm brown eyes she adored.
"I've been advised to keep this short," she smiled and she swears she hears Emira snort behind her. "So here it is. Luz, I never thought I could be as incredibly happy as I am when I’m with you, that such a thing was even possible, but here we are, and I can hardly believe it’s real sometimes. Till I met you, I was playing at being someone I didn’t even want to be but was too scared to stop and be myself, but having you at my side made me brave enough to face that fear, made it feel like I could and should be myself.” Her thumb rubbed across Luz’s knuckles and Luz squeezed back, smiling encouragingly at her. “Even now,” she whispered so only Luz could hear her, and that bright grin she adored flashed at her. “I know that who I am now is thanks to you in many ways, you always make me want to try harder, to be better. It hasn’t always been easy, life has thrown a lot at us over the years, but with you, I know that I can make it through. No matter how hard it gets, I’ll never stop trying, because I can’t think of anything that could ever be more worth the effort than being with you for the rest of my life,” she finished, slipping the paper back into her pocket and taking up Luz’s other hand again. She can hear her sister and Willow sniffling behind her, while Viney did her best to hold it in. Gus is already crying and making whimpering noises while Edric bit his lip, doing his best to keep it together. King is biting his tongue to hold back his cries.
In the front row, Camila is quietly sniffling into a tissue and Eda crosses her arms, definitely blinking her eyes against the tears trying to well up in her mismatched eyes while Alador is filled with a deep appreciation for his future daughter-in-law, even as a bitter sorrow wells up in his chest because he knows just why Amity was afraid of being herself.
Luz knows that there are tears sliding down her cheeks, but she can’t stop it. It should be illegal for Amity to look at her like that and say those things that make her face flush and feel like a hot pile of goo, even as they simultaneously cradle her heart in a blanket of warmth.
Lilith is doing about the same as the rest of the wedding party it seems, and clears her throat, pulling herself together before turning to Luz.
“Luz, you may now say your vows,” she said.
“Don’t mess this up, Kid,” Eda murmured quietly to herself and Camila can only nod in agreement. Gus and Edric hoping for the same thing, especially after Amity’s had been so perfect.
Luz squeezed both of Amity’s hands and cleared her throat, willing away the lump lodged there.
"I'll be honest with you, with everything that’s been going on, I totally, completely forgot to write my vows," she admits sheepishly, and there's a murmur from the guests, but Amity only rolled her eyes, smirking, which makes Luz relax at the response, and behind her, Viney hissed a quiet 'Ha' to Emira, but she can examine that later. "But I don't need to, I can think of reasons why I love you in my sleep." She grinned right back at Amity, whose hands squeezed hers as she smiled down at her softly and Luz’s stomach bubbled up with so much love and affection that it made her tingle all over. "I never could have imagined when I stumbled through a portal chasing an owl that stole my book that I would end up standing here, with you, but I’m beyond glad that Owlbert is a tiny trash thief, and I did.” she grinned. Eda chuckled to herself. “Amity, I've never known anyone as incredibly kind and amazing as you, and I consider myself to be the luckiest person on The Boiling Isles for getting to have met you, and now because I get to spend the rest of my life with you. Without you watching my back for the last six years I probably would have drowned or set myself on fire by now.” She admitted, and there's an agreeing chuckle from the guests and their friends standing next to them. Amity just grinned wetly and knowingly at her, there have been a few incidents over the years that even their closest friends aren't privy to, disaster averted only because Amity is always at her side.
“But I know I can always count on you to be there for me, and I promise that no matter what, I’ll always be there for you too, because there is no one, in any realm that I could ever love more than you, Amity, and I want to spend every minute from here till the end; proving it to you.” Her voice is low by the end and even if Amity hadn’t been teary before, she was now and she’s going to ruin her makeup if she can’t pull herself together! The wedding party isn’t doing much better, barely holding it together themselves. Gus is looking at them starry-eyed, lip trembling and Edric is right there with him. Willow is sniffled quietly into her flowers while Emira rapidly blinked away her tears, Viney much the same.
Eda held Camila as she wept into her shoulder, biting her lips to hold back her own flood of tears.
Alador clenched his hands into the fabric of his dress pants, jaw tight.
“The rings?” Lilith’s voice is thick, but level, with herculean effort, as she looked down at King, who is sniffling and whimpering, on the verge of sobs as he steps forward and holds up the pillow with their rings sitting on it. Luz and Amity picked up the other’s ring.
Lilith held up a glyph and a glowing blue ring appeared and they broke contact just long enough for Luz to slip Amity’s ring on her finger and for Amity to do the same before they reached through the ring and clasped hands again, fingers laced together,
“Do you, Amity Blight, swear on an eternal oath to love, protect and be ever devoted to Luz Noceda for as long as you both live?
“I swear,” Amity said, voice quivering as she squeezed Luz’s fingers laced between hers.
“Do you, Luz Noceda, swear on an eternal oath to love, protect and be ever devoted to Amity Blight for as long as you both live.
“I swear.” Luz smiled even as her eyes shined with still falling tears.
“The oath is sealed,” Their hands glowed before the ring faded away. “you may now…”
They didn’t need to wait for Lilith to tell them.
Amity flung her arms around Luz’s neck as Luz grabbed her around the waist sealing the oath with a kiss as the guests erupted into loud, raucous cheers and laughter. It’s a much longer kiss than it needs to be, but no one is going to stop them.
They finally pulled back, grinning stupidly at each other before Luz pulled back just enough to bend down and sweep an arm beneath Amity’s knees.
She squealed as Luz scooped her up into her arms and took off running down the aisle to whoops and cheers as they passed.
“Luz!” Amity laughed, clinging to her neck as she ran into the woods, both of their laughter echoing off the trees as the blue glow of the moon lit their way.
“To the party!” Eda declared with a grin over the crowd, standing and pointing in the direction of Hexside.
The wedding party cheered as they took off running after the newlyweds, followed by the guests.
The courtyard of the school was filled with tables of people walking about and chatting as the wedding party all walked toward the school to take photos.
Luz couldn’t stop grinning, nor Amity, as they stood inside, waiting for their friends to catch up after Luz had finally set her back on her feet, still clutching each other tightly, foreheads pressed together. They couldn’t wipe away their bright grins even if they wanted to.
Amity’s eyes roved over her face as she wiped at any remaining tears on Luz’s cheeks.
“Eres tan hermosa,” Amity mumbled making Luz’s face darken even as she grinned.
“I should be saying that to you!” Luz pulled back till they were linked only by their hands and openly stared at her wife in awe. “You look… I don’t know any words in any language to do you justice, mi amor.” Luz smiled, squeezing her hands.
Amity squeezed back before pulling her back in close and captured her lips in another kiss.
"Titan, I love you so much," she mumbled against her lips, a few tears had managed to slip past against her will.
"Just as much as I love you," Luz smiled at her reaching up to wipe them away before they can do much damage to Amity's makeup. Her chest feels fit to burst with the rampant affection she feels, especially as Amity leaned into the touch on her cheek
As she stared back at Luz, she's struck hard by the sudden urge to just take her by the hand and drag her away, somewhere they can just be alone, screw the after-party. Willow would kill her, not to mention the rest of their friends and both of Luz's mothers’. Her siblings and Viney would just be amused as all get out.
"Do you think people would notice if we left?" she asked anyway, looking down at her.
Luz blinked at her, eyes blown wide and mouth hanging open before she couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Yes, Amity, I think it's safe to say they would definitely notice." The tone isn't even playing at scolding and Luz is smiling at her, eyes dancing with unspoken mirth and warm, overwhelming affection. That only makes the urge to take her and run that much stronger.
"We could still go…"
Luz is grinning so widely at her it almost looks like it hurts. She just cupped Amity's cheeks in her hands and pressed another long kiss to her mouth. Amity lets her eyes droop closed, and clings to Luz.
Her wife.
She hummed against Luz, threading her fingers gently through her hair. She smells wonderful, not her normal warm, woodsy smell, but some kind of perfume.
Luz finally released her but is still grinning, thumbs running gently over her cheeks.
"We can't leave, Amor," she said and Amity huffed quietly, making her chuckle. "Soon enough, it'll just be you and me," she promised, and Amity hummed in agreement, kissing her again.
"What, are you making out in here already?" Edric's laughing voice broke them out of their own world as their friends finally arrived.
“Not yet.” Luz grinned cheekily at him and Amity slapped her shoulder. Nothing was going to ruin her mood tonight, absolutely nothing!
The rest of the wedding party piled into the building along with the photographer. A tall, bug-eyed demon with long curving horns and a large camera stood in front of them.
“Say, ‘scream’!”
They crowded together and took photos. Eda, Camila, and Lilith joining them for several, including a few shots of Luz with each of her moms and both of them together, before dragging Lilith and King into the photo with her and Amity, the whole Owl House one last time. Minus Hooty, who was bitterly disappointed that he couldn’t come, but hey; house.
Luz glanced around as Amity took photos with the bridesmaids and her siblings and noticed someone missing from the photo party. She grabbed Gus and whispered in his ear. He grinned at her and nodded before quietly shooting out of the building as the photos carried on. He entered again a few minutes later with a bright grin and another witch.
“I think that’s all the photos…” Amity looked at them and let the rest of the wedding party finally move back out into the courtyard to wait for them.
“Not yet!” Luz piped up as she moved toward her, Alador, trailing behind her. “We gotta get a couple with you and your dad!” She grinned at her and Amity blinked, surprised. Alador himself didn’t look so sure but she smiled and nodded.
“Of course we do.”
Her father seemed to perk and Luz stepped out of the way to allow the older auburn-haired witch to stand at her wife’s side.
Luz cocked her head as she watched the two smile. It was the first time she’d ever seen the two together since they were teenagers when Amity still had mint green hair, now as they stood side by side, both with that shiny, red/brown, auburn hair and the same bright, golden eyes and tall stature, Luz couldn’t help but smile. It was obvious where Amity got all her genes from; thank goodness it wasn’t Odalia.
The photographer snapped a few photos before Amity turned to look at her.
“Get over here,” she called and Luz blinked, pointing to herself. “Yes, you,” Amity laughed to herself as Luz trotted over and Amity wrapped an arm around her waist and Alador laid a hand on both of their shoulders. She could feel the soft squeezing of his hand, it wasn’t threatening, or a warning, but thankful, and Luz grinned all the brighter as the photos were snapped. Alador smiled at them and moved away, walking out the doors with the photographer and leaving them alone.
“I don’t know what I’d do without you…,” Amity can’t help but mumble once they’re alone, looking at her from beneath her dark lashes.
“Probably worry a lot less.” Luz shrugged, making her chuckle.
“Maybe,” she agreed. “Things would certainly be duller though,” she smirked and Luz grinned right back. “I saw your free falling stunt today, Eda sent a video.”
“That traitor!” Luz hissed, making Amity snort. “I was completely in control, I swear!”
“Hey, hey, relax, I know. I know that you can take care of yourself,” she assured gently and Luz relaxed. “I’m still going to worry about you though, that’s my job.”
“Worrying about each other is both our jobs,” she refuted, and then they heard Gus on the mic outside.
“Ladies, gentlemen, demons, and others, thank you for coming tonight!” Cheers and applause answered him.
“Oh, that’s our cue! Are you ready, mi amor?” Luz smiled, holding out her arm, which Amity looped her own through, smiling back.
“Always.”
“Please welcome, for the first time, Mrs. and Mrs. Luz and Amity Noceda!” Gus called and they walked out of the school’s double doors to the whoops and cheers of their friends and family. They smiled and waved as they walked down the stairs to take their seats next to their friends at the head table as dinner was served.
Dinner was just as dinner at the owl house, loud, cheery, and fun. Even at the more serious tables, like where the coven heads were seated, were still far from quiet. Though there were fewer fights over, or with food then there usually was at the owl house, mostly because Camila sat between the two Clawthorne sisters at the table near theirs.
Edric was eyeing the beautiful, three-tiered cake with the smooth white icing and purple and pink accents with drool dripping down the corner of his mouth while Emira reluctantly paid a smirking Viney.
“I can’t believe you didn’t write any vows and your wife wrote a book!” Emira scowled at Luz.
“It’s been really busy! I forgot!” Luz defended, gesturing with her fork. Amity giggled and laid a hand over Luz’s on the table.
“It’s alright, Luz, I thought they were perfect.” She smiled at her and Luz grinned before her face turned thoughtful.
“Knowing you, you must have actually written a book too…,” she hummed and Amity flushed.
Willow grinned and twirled a finger and a stack of bound papers fell from the spell circle, which she handed to Luz, despite Amity’s protests.
“No, give me that!” she grabbed for it but Luz held it just beyond her reach as she flipped through it.
“Ay dios mio! You weren’t kidding… now I feel bad!” she turned, frowning, to Amity, who took the opportunity to pluck the pages from Luz’s hand.
“Don’t, I didn’t use them anyway, querida.” She spelled the pages away.
“But you spent all that time writing them…” Luz’s brows furrowed.
“It’s fine, Luz,” Amity assured her but Luz wasn’t having it.
“I’m going to write something just as good for you later,” she promised and Amity can’t help but smile at her.
“Alright.” she nodded, she knows that once luz has made up her mind it takes a miracle to change it.
When dinner is all but done Gus has taken up the mic again.
“Will the happy couple please come to the dance floor for their first dance?”
Luz perks up at that and stands, offering her hand to Amity.
“Shall we, Mrs. Noceda?” She smiled at her and Amity slipped her hand in hers.
“Please, Mrs. Noceda.” She smiled back and let Luz lead her onto the dance floor. Their friends can only roll their eyes at the two, even as they smile.
The Moon is hovering directly overhead now and everything glows with its sapphire light as they stand hand in hand in the middle of the floor. The song that begins to play is one they have danced to many times, but the first time was under very similar circumstances in Blight manor under the same blue light.
Everyone’s eyes are on them, but they only have eyes for each other, as has always been the case.
The move in slow, graceful steps. Fighting or dancing the two have always been in perfect sync and they don’t even need to think about their movements, they don’t need to speak either, they simply enjoy this quiet moment, even if they are in the spotlight.
When the lilting slow song finally ends, much too soon for either, Luz grins at her. They still have something planned that only Gus and the DJ are aware of.
“Are you ready?” Luz is vibrating with energy.
“We haven’t been practicing this for three months for me not to be ready.” Amity grinned back as Luz stepped back and pulled off her jacket, tossing it to Gus who looks much too excited. Amity spun a finger and her dress glowed as the hem shrank up to her knees, freeing her legs.
“What are they doing?” Lilith cocked her head.
“Dunno, but knowing them, it’s gonna be good, whatever it is,” Eda smirked.
Sitting in Luz’s breast pocket is a bright red flower, she pulled it out and clenched the stem between her teeth before she wrapped an arm around Amity’s waist and held one of her hands in hers, arms stretched straight out as Amity set her other on Luz’s shoulder even as she’s laughing quietly to herself at Luz.
“You’re ridiculous,” she mumbled, grinning. Luz just wagged her eyebrows in response, making Amity giggle all the harder. She’s too happy to care one bit about Luz’s added ‘personal touch’ to what they’re about to do.
“Do you have any idea what’s going on, what’s with the flower?” Emira looked at Willow who shook her head, just as confused as the rest of them.
“Amity didn’t say anything to me, looks like Gus is in on it though.”
The two are standing, pressed so closely together that no light can be seen between them.
Luz glanced at Gus and nodded. The nineteen-year-old signaled the DJ and then music again filled the night air.
The assembled witches looked around at the brand new sounds.
Camila blinked at the familiar music that is starting to grow louder and faster
“Tango?” she questioned too herself.
Then the two take off to the quick rhythm of the accordion and drums, spinning across the dance floor in sharp, controlled measure, hardly ever far from the other and taking such fast steps around the other that it’s amazing they don’t trip on each other.
Luz twirled them around, both grinning as they follow the whine of a violin across the dancefloor, the fast clicking of their shoes on the hardwood adding an extra beat to the music.
Gripping her hand, Luz flung amity away in a tight spin, making her dress billow up around her knees as their laced fingers pulled her to a stop, arms outstretched. Whistles and shouts erupted from the guests and Luz tugged her back into her arms. Their hands adjust and then Amity is the one leading them across the floor in tight spins and quicker steps.
“Wow…,” Viney mumbled as she watched the two. Especially when they flip around again and Luz takes back the lead, jerking them to a sudden stop, Amity’s knee wrapped around her hip, and Luz’s hand pressed to the small of her back, they can feel each other breathe they’re so close.
“This feels wrong to watch…” Edric covered his face with a hand but is peeking between his fingers. There is certainly a charged feeling in the air between the two as Luz spun them around, still attached at the hips.
“But they’re so good…,” Willow said in awe, hands pressed to her face.
“Holy shit…” Eda is watching the dance, slack-jawed, Lilith can only nod, eyes wide.
The song builds to a crescendo in a pounding of drums and the rapid squeal of the violin as they finally separated in another spin before Luz pulled her back in, twisting around the moment Amity is back in her arms and dropped her in a sharp dip to the songs final beats.
It’s quiet as they looked at each other, breathing heavy and smiling so hard it hurt. Luz’s smile turned to a grin and she wagged her eyebrows at her again, teeth clenched around the rose she had made a special trip to the human realm for, Amity giggled as they stood up straight and the guest all cheered and clapped at the display.
Luz pulled the flower from her mouth and they both gave dramatic bows.
Regular music starts to play again and other couples move onto the floor.
“What. Was. That?” Emira asked the moment they returned to the table.
“It’s called Tango,” Luz laughed. “It’s a type of dance from the human world, we’ve been practicing,” she said proudly.
“That was amazing, you two,” Willow praised.
“A little risque…,” Edric laughed.
“Well, it is colloquially known in the human world sometimes as ‘sex on hardwood’.” Camila and the Clawthorne sisters chose that moment to approach the head table. Amity flushed at that, Luz had not told her that, and the sheepish grin she’s wearing told her that she had absolutely known it too.
“Can see why,” Viney snorted.
“Either way, that was pretty fancy,” Eda smirked at them.
“It was remarkable,” Lilith added.
“Thank you.” Amity nods, smiling.
They let several more songs play while they rest before they decided to finally cut the cake at Edric’s pleading.
As they do, Amity suddenly remembered a conversation she had with Camila about human wedding traditions.
“Your mother told me about another human wedding tradition last week involving the cake,” she started, cake in hand, and watched Luz from the corner of her eye as she hummed happily to herself.
“Oh, yea, which one?” she turned to look at her and Amity smashed a handful of cake in her face as she did.
It’s quiet for a moment, one visible brown eye blinked at her, face smeared with cake before a grin broke out across her face, and she shoved her fist into her own cake.
“That’s how you want it, huh, mi amor?”
Amity squealed as icing is smeared across her face in return to the sound of Luz’s laughing and then she’s laughing too.
“Food fight!” Eda jumped up, plate in hand.
“Yeah!” King jumped up as well but Camila and Lilith grabbed them both.
“NO, just them!” Camila shouted.
“Well, that’s no fun,” Eda grumbled, pouting.
Amity laughed as she watched Luz’s tongue dart out of her mouth to lick the frosting off her lip.
“Tasty” she grinned.
They let the caterers pass out the cake while they go and clean their faces off inside. They’re gone a little longer than they should be and Viney and Edric take bets on if they even come back at all or are just making out
“Oh, you know what I found out tonight?” Luz asked Amity as she wiped the frosting off her face in Hexside’s bathroom.
“Hmm?” she hummed and leaned in close to the mirror and trying to save as much of her makeup as she can while wiping the cake away.
“Your dad and Lilith used to date,” she said it so casually.
‘What!?” Amity whipped to her.
“Yeah! Crazy right? Guess they were together in school but after she joined the coven she felt so guilty about mom she spent all her time looking for a cure and they drifted apart.”
Amity has no idea how to process this information. She vaguely wonders what life would have been like if Lilith had been her mother.
“You okay, amor?”
She blinks and Luz is looking at her, brows creased with worry. There will be none of that, not tonight.
“Fine, it’s just such a bizarre thought.” She shrugged.
“Right?” Luz laughed.
Something for her to think about another time.
When they come back out, icing free they finally get to eat some of the cake.
“Lilith did an awesome job on this cake,” Luz mumbled around a mouthful of it. Amity just nodded an agreement, glad that Luz had always liked thornberry desserts as much as she did. “Hopefully it’ll taste half this good next year…,” Luz hummed and Amity blinked at her.
“Next year?” she questioned and Luz nodded.
“It’s a human wedding tradition,” she explained. “You save a piece of your cake and freeze it so you can have it on your first anniversary.”
“Then we need to do it now, my brother hasn’t walked away from the cake since we cut it.” Amity rolled her eyes and pointed her fork at Edric, who had stationed himself cake side for the last fifteen minutes.
“Uhh, yeah, probably, he called dibs on leftovers yesterday, so if we wait he’s gonna cart the whole thing outta here at the end of the night,” she snorted and Amity sighed, shaking her head. Her brothers only real loves; trouble and baked goods.
“I’ll get him,” Emira said, rolling her eyes as she made a beeline for the cake and her gluttonous twin. Viney laughed at them.
“Are you sure you’re ready for that package deal?” Luz turned to the older witch who grinned at them and shrugged.
“He’s not bad.... and he’s definitely not going to be living with us…,” Viney deadpanned.
“You don’t think he’s going to end up at our house do you?” Luz looked at her and Amity stopped, fork halfway to her mouth.
“Absolutely not,” she said with finality. “I love my brother but no. He and dad will keep each other company in Blight manor.” Luz and Viney laughed at that.
“Hey, guys, it’s time for you to throw the bouquet,” Willow reminded.
“Oh, right,” Amity nodded and they stood from the table and quickly made their way to the empty dancefloor.
“Single Witches gather round!” Luz called. She and Amity grinned as a slew of their female guests tripped all over themselves as they hurried onto the dance floor. Luz caught sight of a certain witch standing in the back at the edge of the dancefloor and grinned wickedly before she leaned up to whisper in Amity’s ear. She snorted as gold eyes fell on the witch in question.
“Alright.” she nodded, still grinning.
Lilith watched the couple and their guests gather on the dancefloor, arms crossed over her chest. Perhaps it appeared as though she was being standoffish, standing alone in at the back of the festivities but if she had didn’t she and Eda would be brawling in the middle of the party, and as annoying as her sister could sometimes be, and deserving of a piece of cake to the face, she was not going to make a scene at Luz and Amity’s wedding. Camila seemed to have Edalyn in hand right now as the two sat at their table drinking hard appleblood and laughing.
She shook her head, smirking to herself at all the young women and a few men who had swarmed the floor as the two got ready to throw the bouquet.
“Good evening, Lilith.”
Lilith jerked, turning her head to find Alador Blight at her side.
“It’s been a while, Alador,” she greeted with a tilt of her head. He nodded, arms folded behind his back as his gaze turned to the couple.
“It was a beautiful ceremony,” he said, watching them. She nodded, humming an affirmative.
“I’m sure they’ll continue to be quite happy together, despite your wife’s attempts at the contrary.” She can’t help the little dig, she said that she wouldn’t speak ill of Odalia, that didn’t mean she was going to pretend to like her either, but Alador just hummed.
“Precisely why she is my ex-wife now,” he admitted, which makes Lilith look at him.
“Oh…” she’s not sure what to say to that. Alador nods as they observed the gaggle of witches gathered around the middle of the dancefloor.
“It’s just as well,” he continued unexpectedly. “I would hardly have called our marriage a happy one, even from the start.”
“I’m sorry,” is all the elder Clawthorne can think to say.
“No need, It was my own fault for choosing to turn a blind eye to her machinations from the start.” He ran a hand through his beard thoughtfully.
“You never struck me as the type ignore inconvenient truths, Alador.” she cocked a brow at him.
“I wasn’t, once. But I suppose after our… acquaintance, it was easier to ignore some… ‘inconvenient truths’ as you called them.”
Lilith stiffened at that, she never expected him to bring that up, not after over twenty-five years, nor the subtle implication about her being the cause of his relationship with Odalia.
Before she can even think of something to say in response the couple drew both of their eyes again.
“Here we go!” Luz grinned as she and Amity both held the bouquet in one hand and tossed it over their shoulders. The witches on the dance floor scrambled all over each other as it flew through the air, shooting way over their heads and across the dancefloor.
Lilith can barely raise her arms in time to catch the flowers as they fell into her hands.
She blinked down at them as the crowd whistled and clapped. Across the room, she can hear Edalyn laughing maniacally.
She looked up to find Luz and Amity grinning at her from across the room. She scowled when Luz had the audacity to wink at her.
‘Little shits’
Low chuckling at her side made her turn to Alador, who is laughing quietly.
“Well, I suppose that means you will be the one swearing an eternal oath next.” He smirked at her.
“That worked out better than I thought.” Luz laughed, watching Lilith scowl at them. Amity just shook her head and smiled exasperatedly at her wife.
A few hours later the party is winding down and they decide it’s the perfect time to make their getaway.
“Amity and I are gonna sneak out of here,” Luz told her mom’s. “Can you take Mami home later?” she turned to Eda who nodded.
“No worries, kid. I’ll make sure Cami gets home safe and sound, scouts honor.”
“Yeah… there’s no way you were ever any kind of scout,” she drawled and Amity crossed her arms, smirking.
“Do you want me to get her home or not?” Eda huffed, reaching out and ruffling her hair. Luz grumbled but let it happen. “I’ll see you two in a week.” The older women hugged them both before they pull away. “Try not to break any beds.” She smirked as the two walked away, and Luz groaned to herself. Camila just gave the witch a tired look.
They say quick goodbyes to their friends who hug them tightly and they promise to get together when they get back from their honeymoon.
Amity made a quick goodbye to her father and then they’re sneaking away from the party into the woods and Amity spelled her staff into existence and they are soon flying over the woods, the bright cobalt light from the moon lighting the way.
“Well, we’re not leaving for the coast until tomorrow morning, so now what, Mrs. Noceda?” Luz grinned as she set her chin on Amity’s shoulder.
“I could think of a few things.” Amity glanced at her over her shoulder knowingly, gold eyes glowing in the moonlight
“Well, take me home then!” Luz said and laughed as they picked up speed, wind whipping through their hair, as they flew through the moonlit night.

GeekGem’s Cartoonverse
*While there will be more added...but I’ve shown this to a friend and also @pikablob I think I just want to share this. I don’t think it will be a major thing or not on here. But the fact...this was made on Friday...an index of my...thing. And I wanna make jokes about it. Spoilers ahead for Hilda and Wander Over Yonder. Stuff may changed. But I tried to explain this the best I can. This is what I kind of been focusing more on.*
For a long time, multiple worlds and universe’s have been mainly separated from each other. With many existing in their own reality. But something changed that.
During the events of, “The Windmill” when Victoria Van Gale tried opening a breach to the Nowhere space that was so big. It was happening during the events of, “The End Of The Galaxy” when Lord Dominator tries to destroy the last planet in a galaxy where the remaining living inhabitants are hiding out.
When the breach is happening, the machine becomes damaged and goes haywire. All while Wander tries to save Dominator from dying in her own exploding ship.
These events were happening at the same time. And when Dominator’s ship finally exploded during the breach, a shockwave effected not just that galaxy...but multiple dimensions that weren’t fully connected.
Because of these events. The multiverse in a way broke, somehow connecting multiple worlds and universes that weren’t connected before. While Hell had more leeway with the amount of worlds it had. Being somehow connected to the world of the Boiling Isles, and even the likes of Endsville.
It was because of Victoria’s attempt to open a breach so big, and Dominator’s ship exploding, many worlds started to coexist now without problem. All thanks to the Nowhere Space, and the shockwave caused by the massive explosion.
For many, no one knew this happened. But few started to see something had happened. One of them being Eda Clawthorne when her portal to the human realm was not always sending her to the one Luz came from...but other Earth’s.
