i think the alecto dynamic i find just absolutely fascinating is how mercy and augustine react when they think its alecto in harrows body towards the end of ht9. mercy is described as "it wasnt just fear: it was this huge, grief stricken panic, a welter of unhappy terror" and that mercy expected alecto to attack her immediately. And when Augustine sees her, gideon describes him as looking like "we were the last thing he'd ever see". like what does all this MEAN what would alecto even DO TO THEM

YES!! THIS!! EXACTLY!! They were fucking terrified. On the one hand, hot. On the other hand, scary!

Also I'm forever thinking about Mercy and Augustine sending Wake to open the Tomb when they suspected Alecto might not be dead. Wake might have thought she was unleashing the monstrous Death of God, but they knew Alecto! Why would the risk it! I'm also pretty sure they never expected Wake to survive.
