Welcome back Bonefall! If you haven’t already seen it, here’s a section from the preview of Ivypool’s Heart that everyone’s been talking about. I think that’s what the previous anon was referencing.

Ugh, I hadn't seen it. This is terrible, thank you.

While on one hand, this is very Ivypool, and I do like how she's clearly acting unreasonably because she's going through grief... yeah, this is completely backwards from what their situations are, imo.

Rowankit died of preventable causes, less than half a year ago. He wasn't just "a sickly kit," it was practically medical neglect on RiverClan's part. It doesn't MATTER that Dove will see him again in StarClan, he never had a chance to live.

It's not just about the weighing of the loss, either. It's the impacts on the WHOLE family. It's the stressful days that tigerHeartstar spent begging the Clans for medicine, sounding the alarm on low medicine supplies. It's Shadowsight powerless as his little brother got worse and worse. It's Lightleap racing for catmint on a quest and coming home just a minute too late. It's Birchkit who had to attend his twin's funeral as a child himself.

You see what I'm talking about? The way that nearly every interaction between Dove and Ivy boils down to Ivy being a jackass while Dove does everything in her power to comfort her? Ivy even anticipates anger, but Dove remains utterly calm so that she can validate her.

Dovewing doesn't even signal any pain. She does nothing except say the perfect words to assure her sister that she'll always be there for her once she stops acting nasty. As always.

It's kind of got that Crowfeather's Trial vibe. It's the mean character's time to learn a lesson about niceness, so everyone around him is ridiculously kind and patient.

I yearn for Dovewing to draw thicker boundaries, y'know? Tl;Dr, I don't like how the Erins write their relationship.

TIGERCLONES !! + some

some of these cats aren’t technically clones (like tawnypelt and alderheart) but they are in my heart <3

uhhh design notes I suppose????

1. tried to make sure each one had the ear spots, pale front paws, and a pale tail tip! thats what I personally headcanon as tigerstar’s legacy markings

2. some of these designs (like strikestone) may/will change in the future LOL and this is like my 10th attempt to draw tawnypelt. what does she look like in my head? who knows!! uhhh and alderheart. I know he’s ginger but I’ve always imagined him like this brownish sooo..

3. I think I accidentally designed juniperkit to be the perfect bramble OR tigerheart design. like. I just wasted that design on a kit huh. I need to saturate bramble anyways, but..!

4. tigerheart gets that scruffy pelt from Hal so he’s got those ragged-pelt genes… passes it to lightleap etc etc. WHO BY THE WAY what do you mean is dark brown??? That’s LIGHTleap. I nearly designed her to be white and brown before realizing lol

If you’re still doing requests, could I ask for your genetically accurate Dovewing and Tigerheartstar lineage? They have five kids total and the Erins changed Rowankit’s appearance out of nowhere. I’d love to see how the baby kitten would actually look like, plus his siblings!

Tigerheart's color is black blotched tabby, Dovewing's is blue tortoiseshell silver spotted tabby; tortoiseshell specifically so she can have a ginger son. (From the name i think it's clear they meant his color as a throwback from Rowanclaw through Tigerheart - unfortunately that's not how it works, orange is not recessive to black. Rowankit's color is a heritage from not Rowanclaw but Brightheart.)

Tigerheart and Dovewing (They are not actually maine coons, i just liked these pics. Also if you make them both longhaired then all of their kits have to be longhaired too. I didn't pay attention to this during choosing pictures, because i mostly focus on colors, not hair length.)

The first litter is pretty easy - Lightleap is dark brown = black blotched tabby, Shadowsight is dark gray = blue blotched tabby and Pouncestep is gray tabby which can mean literally all combinations of silver or not, on black or blue base, I haven't decided yet. (But i'll probably choose black silver, so Dovewing's silver doesn't get wasted lol)

The second litter. As I said, Rowankit can be red tabby no problem (if you don't mind Dovewing being a tortie - it can be very invisible on silver tabbies, so i don't think it's incompatible with her description (pale gray)), and Birchpaw is light brown... which will turn into a black spotted tabby for me.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t mildly worried about Pouncestep dying in a Splashtail invasion since she’s the only adult TigerDove kit that hardly got characterization outside of her kithood.

One of the only times we see her have a full conversation on-page and it’s directly before her father and sister are led into an ambush that they escape by the skin of their teeth. 😭

Our Ivypool’s Heart questers have already left, so in the event that Pouncestep or another Clanmate dies in an attack, Dovewing won’t know about it until she returns from her journey.

How heart-wrenching would it be to have Ivypool and Icewing finally come to terms with their shared grief in losing their children just for Dovewing to return to another child dead?

Pouncestep isn’t something I’ve talked about so far but I’ve been meaning to. We’ve just had her only characterisation ever as a friendly and well-meaning gossip. She’s immediately very likeable. So yeah I am very afraid for her lol.

I didn’t even consider the Dovewing aspect, oh that would be horrible (but from a story standpoint I would love it). What if she feels that by going on this quest she wasn’t here to protect her daughter and blames herself partially? Maybe that could be something to explore in SE18 since it is part two. What if, if that is he case, it were a Dovewing super edition? The sisters get half the story each.

That kind of event would shake the whole family as well. Tigerstar and Lightleap would probably blame themselves for both going and getting trapped on the island, therefore we’re unable to help Pouncestep. While maybe Shadowsight failed to save her either medical aid and his confidence as a medicine cat is shaken, especially since Puddleshine is away, leaving Shadowsight to deal with such a major incident on his own.

Also I didn't mention this bc I was suspending my disbelief as much as I could but. The entire clan of riverclan could've just like. Guarded the kits and murdered Splashtail easily.

This book was very silly.

Other random notes in no particular order:

-Whistlebreeze and Frostdawn are very cute names and very cute (girl)friends. I like that Frostdawn got a meaning to her name :3

-Nightheart and Sunbeam considering Frostdawn 'like family' is SO sweet

-I liked how things ended with Berryheart EXCEPT when Sunbeam said she could pretend Berryheart was still alive. Her conflicting feelings on her mother after her death were handled well but that line in particular stood out as odd to me.

-I really DID enjoy Frostpaw/dawn's 'drifting between life and death' chapters, especially how her scenes with Curlfeather played out. But Nightheart and Sunbeam's chapters in between were soooo boring and pointless.

-I actually think it's kind of sweet that Jayclaw was trying to tell Frostdawn that she could stay dead if she wanted to, trying to persuade her that RiverClan wasn't her responsibility and that she didn't need to feel guilty if she couldn't handle it any longer. One of the only cats who really cared about her feelings. It's just kinda strange with the context.

-Like I said even if I think Curlfeather and Berryheart ended on a bit of a hollow note I do think it was realistic even if not particularly satisfying. It just felt like they didn't quite get a proper ending? Curlfeather especially.

-Don't love the way Splashtail is written to be mentally ill. Like it is a little different, it's not a Mapleshade situation where she was hallucinating her kits telling her to murder people, Splashtail WAS actually seeing Curlfeather's ghost (or I believe so anyway) but the way he was written was a little uncomfortable.

-Frostpaw murdering Splashtail is SO GOOD!!!!! BEST part of the book hands down.

-ASC will always have a special place in my heart, because it's the first arc that I've read live from start to finish.

-That said I think I liked TBC more. ASC was really fresh and interesting at the start but as it went on you started to realise that they weren't going to follow through with potentially interesting plotlines that they set up. Splashtail especially had so much potential to be fresh and interesting and they really let him fall short. This arc was very similar to last arc and I think TBC handled it better. The ending of TBC felt huge, bombastic and interesting, but ASC kinda fizzled out, I doubt it will have much of a lasting impact. It tried to set up some 'starclan bad' points but ultimately spent too much of it's time talking about the importance of starclan to really start anything meaningul. But I still liked ASC a lot even if Splashtail ended up being a big disappointment of a villain imo.

-I really liked our protags from this arc especially. Frostdawn is one of my all time new favourite cats.

-Sunbeams friendships with Lightleap and Blazefire kinda got dropped though and that was sad and disappointing.

-Graysludge and Mistslime are hilarious names. I feel bad for them but god that was funny.

-But also speaking of them. When Frostpaw wakes up they're not even mentioned. They also kinda left her when she was weak and dying. Can we address this please.

My Top 10 Favorite Warrior Cats.

Cinderpelt was the main source of entertainment and enthusiasm in book 2, and 3 and I love that! She would have made it higher is the authors (don't remember the name, and too lazy to look it up) didn't kill her off so soon. Twilight was so annoying, the entire book was terrible, and I was so sad when she died. And her disability was very terribly written. She broke her leg by a car, and she can't be a warrior anymore. I would discuss about it all day long, but I need to move on to #9.

I love our little fruit loop! I mainly love Tallstar's character because of his Super Edition. Tallstar's Revenge is my favorite Euper Edition of all of warrior cats. The characters in the book got stuff done for once. (I don't remember all of the super editions, it has been a long time since I read them). And his little relationship with Jake is super cute! I met someone at a library and she doesn't like Tallstar x Jake. She was a homophobic, and I hate homophobes. She just make me angry, so I never talked to her again. Anyway, I just thought the bowtie idea was cute, and I decided to put that in.

I really love frostpaw because I can relate to her issues, but I think she was like a reboot of Shadowsight. Which Shadowsight was fine, no problem with him. I think frostpaw is just a cute name in general. I have never drawn her before, so i had to some up with grays on the spot. Anyway the next one!

Now we got some of the best kitties in my eyes! Ravenpaw was my favorite characters in the books before someone else came along that will be in #1. But he was basically the start of the series besides Firestar. Think about it, he tells him what happened with the Tigerstar situation. Firestar would have never known if Ravenpaw didn't spill the truth. And I think him moving to the farm was probably the best thing that has happened to him. Barley is not my favorite, it is just that I wanted to draw them. Next one!

Honestly Lightleap is probably the best character in arc 8 because she is so entertaining and snarky. The best type of character. And she caused a lot of drama which I love. It sucks that she has not been there much in book 3 and 4 of A Starless Clan.

She was supposed to be #4, but I forgot I didn't do 5, so instead of thinking more, I just put her there. Briarlight is the only good cat in her family. Mille is very mental, Blossomfall is very bad, and is very.... dramatic? I don't know how to describe it. Graystripe who i don't know what is going on in his head, and Bumblestripe who obsessed with a girl who doesn't want him. Briarlight is the sweetest cat and her death in the fourth or fifth book in AVOS was very sad. I love her friendship with her best friend, Jayfeather. (Yes, best friend! Jayfeather is gay in my head! I don't care if he loved Half Moon). Briarlight is just great! Love her!

Don't really have a reason to put her up here. Maybe I am just obsessed with the name i gave her. I was gonna switch her and Briarlight out, but oh well. I mainly like first arc Bluestar not her super edition (I mean, who does like her super edition)? I just like calling her Queen of the double wide.

Here's Dovewing! My baby! I am happy to put her here on this list! I really don't understand why some people hate Dovewing. She is a great protagonist, and a good mom as well. And also I feel bad for her because she was forced to be with him (Bumblestripe) for a while because of peer pressure. But I am glad she made to choice to get out of the pain.

AAAHHH! SQUIRRELSTAR!!! SHE'S HERE! I have been waiting for 4 years for this. She is basically just like me. (Except the shortness! I am not short). I do what is right, but I don't need approval from anyone. Honestly her husband is a dickhead, so I am glad he stepped down. I wished he would have died though.

JAYFEATHER! HE IS MY FAVORITE KITTY EVER! Does anyone need to explain why he is some people's favorite? Well I do. I can relate to him because everyone is an idiot! The books make them really dumb sometimes, and points out Jay's blindness. And guess who points this out? Jayfeather! He is my favorite for that reason. He is grumpy, but has a valid reason for it. And I can't get myself started on his boyfriend. He is not that interesting, but seeing fanart of Jayfeather and Kestrelflight just makes a smile on my face. (Dusklight for example, go follow them! One of the remaining kestreljay fans, and their work is flawless)! Honestly the sunglasses idea was random. Oh god, I didn't even consider the idea of Dovewing dying in Ivypool's SE. And while Dovewing is becoming more loved, I can absolutely see the editors/writing team deciding to kill her off because of the constant hate she got- and she HAS Birchkit who could become the next ShadowClan POV if that happened too. I think the worst possible option is Squirrelflight dying both for manpain with Bramblestar and so Ivypool, being acting deputy struggles with whether or not she wants to be leader, and Dovewing dying just so we feel sorry for her. I think I'd genuinely stop paying attention to ASC if they're killed off for drama lol, unless like Ivypool gets Dovewing killed because of her rash actions and finally has to deal with the consequences of her behavior. THAT at least could be interesting and a good reason for her to doubt her ability to lead when her hot headedness got Dovewing killed, buuuuuuut given that even after she interfered with sending a rescue party for SkyClan the Erins/narrative coddle her and have everyone forgive her and justify her actions? Even if she straight up gets Dovewing killed, I can already see the book bending backwards to defend her and people acting like it's Dovewing's fault. 💀

Tigerheart and Ivypool mean nothing to me without Dovewing, even Shadowsight and Lightleap being her kids is what elevates them for me. She's just That Good. If they kill her off I'm throwing rocks!!!! I feel like they wouldn't but, you know, they have a pretty blatant disregard for their female characters and you can't be sure -_- I especially don't want her to be thrown to the meat grinder for Ivypool's arc of all things, she already has a dead daughter we don't need more mince meat relatives!!!!

AVOS!Ivypool is so frustrating, like the books have always been awful about the code stringent characters that it peddles out. People's reactions to her in Tigerheart's Shadow drove me NUTS she is not being rational, she is being controlling and petty! THAT'S BAD WHY ARE YOU SAYING SHE'S RIGHT. Characters who are controlling and needy and petty are so good....but the narrative has to play into that, it has to acknowledge it to be fun to read. Ivypool clinging onto her sister would be fun if the text didn't want to constantly remind me how noble and loving she really is because of the code or whatever. I know the two technically reconciled but like. come on.

Seeing as how I still have to wade through "Dovewing abandoned her" takes, we must band together and fight for her tooth and nail to protect her.

ok so that book was surprisingly? not that bad. the BIGGEST thing that happened was BRAMBLESTAR RETIRED!!! SQUILF IS GOING TO BECOME LEADER!!!! (unless something bad happens) and i am SO PUMPED FOR IT!!! FINALLY STUPID IDIOT BRAMBLESTAR IS GONNEEE i still skimmed over nightheart chapter this arc and tbh? he didnt really do that much. talked to sunbeam. talked to berryheart. talked to bramblestar and sparkpelt. did some tasks. FAILED HIS TASKS ON PURPOSE TO LEAVE SUNBEAM BEHIND AND GO BACK TO THUNDERCLAN WHAAAT??? honestly i dont think they shouldve let him back in but whatever AND NOW SUNBEAMS GOING TO THUNDERCLAN TO BE WITH HIM. babygirl just leave him please

sunbeam also didnt do a crazy amount of things it was mostly just interacting with nightheart but there was one thing i wanted to talk about! in one of the chapter (I dont remember which one) she had a dream about nightheart WITH ANOTHER CHICK?? she was described as a silver tabby with blue eyes and i tried to see if that was a cat but the only ones that are even CLOSE are flowerstem from shadowclan and shimmerpelt from riverclan, who are both described as silver mollies. IK it was proooobably just a dream but . what if its more of a vision. what if that actually ends up happening. very interesting....

berryheart still kinda sucked BUT ALSO. she is schemeing with RIVERCLAN to get tigerstar out!!! whaaat!!! specifically splashtail! WHO'S CLOSE TO FROSTPAW!!! i was actually pretty shocked lol! duskfur and mallownose (i think thats their name?) were also there

on the topic of riverclan reedwhiskers death was CONFIRMED. to be a murder. BY SOMEONE HE WAS PROBABLY CLOSE TO. WHAAAT??? I was so shocked! And intrigued! I'm SO excited to figure out who that was. he also said to frostpaw 'there is a darkness in riverclan' which is VERY interesting. also frostpaw has a crush on splashtail and its literally killing me babygirl thats your cousin. ough. also i think splashtail might be evil. i hope hes evil. that would be very interesting

ok time to talk abotu FROSTPAW!!!!!! little. tiny. i love her. she was so interesting this book. BIGGEST thing about her is SHE'S NOT A HEALER ANYMORE! she decided to become a warrior apprentice again because of her (supposedly) fake visions! splashtails been trying to convince her to become a healer again but it is NOt working LOL. though the odd thing is, now she's having REAK visions! she had the vision about reedwhisker where she was in the attackers body who attacked him and then threw him over the ravine. BUT!! cuz she's not a med cat anymore, she only told this to splashtail and.,... and.... she's going to tell whistlepaw too!!!! that means... WINDCLAN CONTENT!!!!!!!! im so excited! BUT. she didn't get to windclan! before she could make it, someone ATTACKED HER! it wasn't shown who it was or if it was riverclan or windclan or someone else but EEK!!! please be okay frostpaw. please. aaaaanyway, i thought this book was pretty good, surprisingly! frostpaw is still my number one fav :3 also i love owlnose & splashtail. i love alot of riverclan. icewing, shimmerpelt.... such cool characters!!! also lightleap and blazefire are cute

Ivypool and Tigerheart hypos? 👀 (Hey, you asked for controversy….)

U asked for a controversial kit and I give you a child of divorce. While this was meant to be a hypokit she’s really more like a remake of Lightleap. Anyways yes here she issss :)

So pretty much how I think she comes about is Ivypool saw her sister Dovewing falling for Tigerheart and tried to prove her sister that Tiger was a bad cat so she starts fiddling with their relationship until uh oh! She’s now fake dating Tigerheart who had just been broken up by Dovewing. The two kinda hard fell much to Ivy’s anger. And out came Hearthowl and Soulsight. Ivy actually reallyyy didn’t want kits but also didn’t want to give her now ex the kits so big battle happened over it. In the end Dovewing learned the shit Ivy tried to pull behind her back, the two kits went to Shadowclan with their momma, and Dove left.

Both kits were super damaged by this I mean they were used as chips against their momma by their other parent and then given away and disowned the moment Ivy lost them. Dovewing raised the mostly, she’s ace but wanted to raise kits and felt bad for the two. Her reason for moving over was a disconnect from Thunderclan, learning what her sister did, and patching things up with Tigerheart. The two didn’t get back together for awhile and mostly co parented as friends until falling back in love and committing.

The Erins are so hellbent in making every Tigerstar clone violent that I worry about Lightleap

knowing them i fear them ever attempting to pay attention to lightleap's development because theres a scarily high chance shell end up killed. i want her to live a long life in the background. i'm fine if she never arcs out if it means she survives until the second anglo-american war bombs demolish the Erin Hunter HQ and the series is finally canceled

realizing that Stonewing is part of Berryheart's group and that he's Lightleap's former mentor puts quite a few things into perspective in its own weird way

I mean, hell, he was the one who put the Sister, Sunrise, in critical condition in Squirrelflight's Hope, he was shitty towards Squirrelflight during TBC, and he has beat the shit out of Mallownose of RiverClan twice [once in Squirrelflight's Hope* and again as of Sky where he was beat back into the river by Stonewing and Sunbeam]

even when she offered to go to the Dark Forest, the first thing she did was turn towards her mentor for affirmation

“Cloverfoot can’t go,” she mewed earnestly. “She’s our deputy. We can’t manage without her. Snowbird is a great warrior, but she’s nearly an elder. It’s too dangerous for her. And Cinnamontail has learned a lot since she joined ShadowClan, but she hasn’t been practicing battle moves with her parents since she was a tiny kit like I have. I’m a good warrior.” She glanced back at Stonewing, blinking eagerly at her former mentor. “Aren’t I?” The white tom nodded. His dark blue eyes glittered as though he was torn between pride and fear. “You were one of my best apprentices,” he mewed. “See?” Lightleap looked eagerly at her father.

we don't really get to see much of him as her mentor

though we do see a bit of him in Tigerheart's Shadow - though it's not a book I actively remember details of [nor do I care enough about Tigerheart to reread it to find quotes, much like Crowfeather's Trial]

but my biggest memory is him insulting Rowanstar's leadership to Tigerheart

so it's safe, in my opinion, to assume that he had influence on why Lightleap turned out the way she did

So since Lightleap is in ThunderClan now instead of ShadowClan how does Sunbeam's story change without her there? I find it especially interesting how Lightleap trains as a mediator under her mother (btw I love your art and your stories keep it up <3 )

I'm leaving A Starless Clan alone for now to see how it all plays out before I dedicate it's whole narrative, but most likely if Sunbeam's romantic love triangle happens, I'll replace Lightleap's role with someone else. At the moment I've considered swapping Gullswoop and Lightleap, with Lightleap being the occasional visitor thanks to her role as a Mediator and being interested in gossip (taking Gullswoop's role of comedic relief while maintaining her outgoing and adventurous personality).

After all, who wouldn't like Gullswoop? She's also deaf in this rewrite. She's the daughter of Ivytail and Whitewater simply because Snowbird is too old to be having kits by that point, so instead she's Ivytail's kit and therefore Snowbird's granddaughter.

While the writing of the scene was very good and emotional I have a lot of issues with the fact that Bristlefrost died, especially since it’s yet another case of fridging women for manpain in the series.

There wasn’t any real reason for Shadowsight to be in the final battle. The whole “oh, Lightleap isn’t strong enough to go to the DF” felt like a hastily thrown together excuse to get him there. Like for some reason they couldn’t erase the writing they’d done of her offering herself so they made up some bullshit, as if it was an already released episode of a tv series that they had to scramble to undo the consequences of. He didn’t actually DO anything (or at least, anything memorable) while he was in the Darkforest except pass out and nearly get killed, so it just feels like he was tossed in at the last minute so they could have Bristlefrost die to save him. I remember thinking “Oh, Shadowsight stays behind so we have eyes in the living world, that’s cool!” Followed by “huh????”

Plus Rootspring had been shown escaping the water before, so I don’t see any reason why Bristle couldn’t have?

I’d probably have less of a problem if the lead up was less messy/there wasn’t a pattern of female love interests getting picked off like this but I do think that, regardless, Shadowsight or Snowtuft would have made a better choice for the final sacrifice. Not because I want either of them to get perma-vaporized, quite the contrary, but I think it narratively would have been more satisfying. Especially Snowtuft, who was a very well loved character and a relatively major one that just got anticlimactically killed off-screen.

I dunno i have a lot of complicated feelings on it and i needed to get them out there.

I have complicated feelings on it too, I love that they made the decision to permakill a pov like that and I love the scene itself. But I don’t like how she doesn’t give her family even a tiny passing thought at the time, and also like you say how much had to just kind of happen for little reason to get us to that scene in the first place. Especially the way the whole romance itself started very suddenly, it’s honestly jarring the way she doesn’t think of him much at all and then is suddenly confessing her love. It’s an emotional and effective scene for sure but definitely still a fridging.

For the dark forest water I can only assume that as the dark forest shrank it got more intense, especially since in OOTS Ivypaw was swimming underwater fine in it during training. But I believe that’s just headcanon territory and not something thats addressed in text iirc?

I feel with a few small tweaks these issues could have been fixed, but the high production rate of these books probably didn’t allow for more fine tuning of the story.

I wouldn’t of wanted Shadowsight to have a permadeath though just because he would just go through nothing but misery and suffering for his entire life it just would feel very mean imo
