Thg non-canon things that are claimed as canon?

Oh man this will probably start some fights lol, but just to be clear I'm not saying that all of these can't be true or people are wrong for believing they are. It's more just that we don't know for sure because they're never confirmed in the source text and therefore (IMO) cannot be labeled as canon. Here are some common ones off the top of my head:

Finnick was the youngest victor ever

Rue's death sparked the rebellion

Everything Katniss did was for Prim (it all started with her protecting Prim, yes, but Prim stopped being her sole motivation after she stepped into the arena)

The Quell was rigged for Finnick to win

Peeta refused to kill (he literally said he would so idk where people got this from)

Katniss was indigenous or Katniss was white (these are the two most common ones I see people claim as canon, but her race was never stated)

Peeta's family didn't care about him or he didn't care about them

Katniss always assumed she'd marry Gale (she said that other people probably assumed it, not that she did)

Career academies

Foxface killed herself

Katniss was the first ever volunteer in district 12

Annie wasn't a Career (there isn't a single reason to believe this)

Peeta was still hijacked after the war

Katniss never experienced desire or wanted to kiss anyone (saw a fan art about this and I was just like, did we read the same books?)

Peeta wasn't a good tribute (boggles my mind that this is a popular take)

Katniss's mom didn't love her, didn't try to reach out to her after the war, and all the other stuff people make up about her to demonize her further

Disclaimer: canon can be murky when there are both books and films. The THG movies repeatedly contradict the books and some characters are completely different than their book counterparts, so it's really not possible for both canons to exist simultaneously in one universe. That's why I view the source material as the ultimate determinant of canon.

Of course, there are some movie-only details that could be true in the books as well, like Finnick being the youngest victor. My issue is more with people claiming that movie details refuted in the books are canon, or combining movie-only canon with book-only canon, or simply picking and choosing what is and isn't canon based on their preferences. I see people do this disingenuously to push certain narratives, like "the weird thing my favorite character did in the movie isn't canon but the bad thing my least favorite character did is".

All of that brings so much inconsistency and bias into the story that it starts to lose meaning and purpose, so I think it makes the most sense to only consider the books "true" canon when viewing the story as a whole.

None of this is to say people can't have headcanons or things they prefer over book canon or anything like that. The fun part of fandom is being able to engage with the material in a way that means something to you personally. So please don't take anything I'm saying as an attack on your opinions because that's not my intention.

yeah... i caved and gave her a tail... I'm Not Sorry! it's cute! i wanted to stick with her sorta flower motif - it's stronger in her princess look, since I imagine that when she was part of the royals she was very blatantly flower power based. it was her Thing!

but a Julie free of her noble shackles... she deserves her big sword. like yeah, she has flower magic, but who needs it when she has a Giant Blade??? on the royalty vein, and if we're classifying "rainbow monster" as a species, i feel like horn size/curve would be a status symbol of some kind. maybe Julie would have kept her horns filed short. but if she ran away from that life... longer horns! i like to imagine that they'll keep growing until she has a pair of Extra Weapons attached to her head! curved forward like mammoth tusks maybe!

i imagine that like Frank, she goes with minimal armor - range of movement over protection, yk? some scale mail over her front, a thick leather flower over her chest w/ scalloped leather pauldrons, wrist armor and metal knuckles! i'd think that the faux-suspenders include a back sheath for her sword... i wish i'd thought of that Before i finished the little ref! i don't feel like going back and editing!

i imagine that she was forced to cut her hair when it got caught in something (a gelatinous cube, mayhaps). it didn't look good! don't let anime and Mulan fool you! cutting your own hair with a blade will not look nice! but someone - Eddie, probably, he's good with scissors i'd assume - cleaned it up for her. and hey, it didn't look bad! plus, Julie probably liked being able to just tuck up her long strands into her hat when she's feeling a bit more like a Julius than a Julie!

it's been a fun challenge transforming their canon outfits into a similar variation with fantasy flavoring and twists! i want them to suit the setting but still maintain Themselves! Julie's was tough i gotta admit. i was messing around with the princess look and the fighter look side-by-side. it worked better when i sat back and thought "fighter Julie is Julie unrestrained. that version would be more aligned with her canon look"

i wanted her princess form to look Restrained! she has to be a ~delicate flower~, a noble woman, pristine and poised and very much a princess. soft colors, poofy clothing, bright white gloves that are not to be sullied. carefully bundled up hair! jewelry! that dress must be Heavy and hard to move in! her tail must be so cramped under there!

but Julie Unleashed? violent pinks! rose gold accents! short skirt so that she can sprint and Kick! fun boots that she can be active in and delight in watching them get dirty! her hair is free to whip in the wind and get caught in things! fun straps and Deadly Accessories! a sword that she stole from the royal armory on her way out the window! she has forearm wraps both to match Frank and to support her wrists!

Regardless of ships, i think mithrun and marcille can be good friends, once they pass their initial hiccup of attacking each other at the dungeon. That might take some time, since marcille is scared of mithrun and mithrun working on his desires, but the thing about them is that they all have the time in the world.

I think what's rustling my jimmies is that like, there was a couple of WC fans being mildly dismissive of Alex in that note minefield, after dozens of comments of "fuck you how could you let the fridge woman lose" and "Bumble didn't deserve to win ANY rounds" and "how could A CAT experience misogyny." But then WE get blamed for the toxicity because THEY were butthurt that the Funny Cat People have the 'audacity' to win something they feel entitled to.

Like, we've gotta be endlessly charitable as we get openly insulted because they're upset about Alex losing, a very well-known and culturally relevant character with a legacy so massive we have a whole term named after her. But condemnations of "She's just a cat, letting WC into this poll was a mistake, Bumble can't even be a victim of misogyny" only started coming around once I started talking about it.

And I think that DOES make her deserve the win here! Alex is a MARTYR. Everyone with a brain agrees what happens to her is bad. It happened in her canon because it was bad. We talk about her and keep her memory alive. Bumble gets dismissed entirely out of hand because she's "just a cat in a kid's book" as if that doesn't make it worse, and as if the kid's book didn't treat a domestic abuse survivor like a moron for even asking for help.

Anyway, just to reiterate, I love DC fans. It's not all of you guys. Alex was done dirty and deserves justice-- and it's even kind of a shame that all she became is "The Fridge Woman." I haven't even heard people talk about how she was a wary, responsible person who was still ready to rock with Kyle's new weird glowstick powers, or that she was a journalist, or that she just got brought back in another edition as a Green Lantern only to be revealed as an illusion and re-absorbed back into Kyle's mind. Going by the hotd storyline rather than book counterpart when it comes to Rhaenyra and Alicent's age and very close friendship. If Rhaenyra was born a boy, do you think he would have married Alicent? I can imagine Otto wanting to make a play for that. Either Alicent or even Laena?

Okay so the thing about Rhaenyra as a boy is his Bestie At Court (actually….is there an official term for the aegoons? cohort? order? gaggle? idk) is going to be another boy. So probably Otto brings one of his sons to court - I can’t remember if Otto in show canon has another son besides Gwayne but I don’t get the impression Gwayne is wildly different in age from Alicent, so even if it’s just the one, he’ll work for the scenario. And like, Otto isn’t inheriting shit and neither are his son’s, so Gwayne at court with girl Rhaenyra is useless, she’s not marrying his ass without a minor scandal. But BOY RHAENYRA. Boy Rhaenyra can make the daughter of a second son his Queen if he really wants to…….so yeah I think Otto is bringing Alicent to court alongside Gwayne and encouraging some stuff.

But this relationship is going to be…treated different. Everyone is gonna see what Otto is doing. Like the MOMENT Corlys sees Alicent & Rhaenyra flirting not only is he whipping out w ruler to ensure they’re a proper distance apart, he is going to Viserys and being like “WELL SO YOUR HEIR IS OLD ENOUGH FOR ENGAGEMENTS LETS TALK ABOUT THE BLOOD OF OLD VALYRIA” i can’t overstate how tacky corlys & otto are going to he about this.

So the question is……..does Viserys go for the good political match or the match with his bestie/dom’s daughter? I think this depends on what your ultimate goal for this scenario is. Viserys is so fucjing suggestible, I think he could be talked into letting Alicent be Rhaenyra’s wife. I can Also see a situation where he makes Rhaenyra marry Laena and then marries Alicent anyway. Like Into the Badlands or Patrick Henry’s real life. And of course there’s still a lot of room for cucking shenanigans here. If it gets dragged out long enough, I think every other member of the small council goes “oh if we’re just entertaining ANYBODY for queen” and it’s going to be bring your daughter to work day at the Red Keep.

She just has such a sweet face and fits Nettles canon description perfectly. Lol it’s a pipe dream though considering she has several projects in the works and I doubt she’s even on the HOTD teams radar. Really, honestly at this point I will not complain who they cast as Nettles as long as the actress is Black/Blackish and brown-skinned. This is my only requirement for Nettles. I’ll be honest and say Nettles has the literal worst fancasts(not surprising since half want to act like she doesn’t exist or if she does they don’t want to her being Black).

Most of the actresses in said fancasts aren’t darker than a paper bag and some are non-Black/Blackish women which I find completely vile when people insist that she isn’t Black/Blackish when a. how Nettles is described is how you would describe someone Black and b. she looks like this in the lore and the official art:

The behavior of this fandom when it comes to Nettles period has been downright deplorable. I’ve already stated this, but I’ll state it a dozen times, I will straight up not watch this show if HBO looks over a host of Black/Blackish actresses to race bend the only in canon Black/Blackish character and more importantly the only in canon Black/Blackish woman.
