listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

lups the fucking funniest character bc shes a sort of moral core to the starblaster crew, a huge part of the drive they have to save the worlds they come across and defeat the hunger, incredibly compassionate and emotionally intelligent, and also just fucking LOVES blowing shit up. cannot get enough of it. will see an opportunity to commit nonlethal arson and say "is anyone gonna fuck that up" and not wait for an answer. genuine honest to god pyromaniac. sees a machine gun and her immediate reaction is to start shooting it in the air. her favorite gift shes ever gotten is the opportunity to run around an abandoned building blowing things up with fire magic. its not even really treated as a character flaw its just a fun hobby she has

KATYA COULDN'T HELP BUT CACKLE - clearly someone wasn't enjoying her jokes. It wasn't her fault that the puns were bad - okay yeah it was. But in her defense, she had been drinking a little bit.

She pulled a chair out and sat on it backwards, straddling it with a grin - she was sure he wanted her to leave, but she had no plans on doing that any time soon. Someone had to suffer her company tonight, and unfortunately for Connor, he was the prey on this dark and cold night... or day... She couldn't really tell with all these shadows and all this darkness.

But her own bones told her it was likely night time, even if she couldn't see the moon.

"Now now, ya look like you got a bone to pick with me - " she laughed again, pretending to wipe a tear from her eyes.

At least one of them was enjoying themselves.

"As for the weather - well, I kinda like it. Miss the moon. But it sure is still just as cold and dark as it always is here. I don't mind it. Tibia honest, I run warm and I see fine in the dark... dunno what everyone else is complainin' about," she chuckled, shrugging her shoulders.

"What about you? Ya thrivin' in this place? Of if the small talk is REALLY not your thing - we can skip to the fun part?"

If he had any lungs to inhale and exhale extra dramatically through, he would. Each joke does a little damage to him--he can feel it. He can feel the impact of each bit of psychic damage.

"Ah."

Going to ignore that joke. Don't pay it any mind. Perhaps she'll stop.

"Well. I can see why you would be a hero around here. At least your spirits are up."

Connor stands there still, and rather awkwardly as the seconds pass by between them. Should he be saying anything else? Was there something else to say? He looks around the room, seeing how everyone else is drinking their alcohol, and others are just chatting it up, laughing, telling jokes, or whatever story there is to tell.

"Sooooo... How was the weather when you were out there?"

Stupid question. It was cold. It was ALWAYS cold, from what he understood. And DARK.

But what else was he supposed to say?! She's just standing there! Maybe she'll leave? He hopes she will. And will take her jokes with her.
