Thinking about a time travel Pirate-King-Luffy-Raises-ASL fic but specifically like.

He knows the things he wants to fix in Ace and Sabo's lives. He knows he's going to shower them both in love and affection, reassure them constantly that they are safe, that they are wanted. He knows he never wants Ace to grow into that sad, angry, lonely little boy who believed his existence was a curse; never wants Sabo to be taken from them only to return weighed down with mountains of guilt and need to atone for something that was never his fault. He knows he's gonna do everything in his power to give his brothers -- his sons, now -- the carefree childhoods they deserve, and when they grow into young men and set off to chase whatever dreams they dream in this life, they'll do it with his full support and the knowledge that they can call on him if they ever need him, and he'll always come running.

Then he finds himself looking down at this timelines version of Monkey D. Luffy, a tiny little baby who blinks at the world with big, startled eyes and grins a gummy smile at everyone he sees.

And Luffy realizes, with a kind of slow-dawning horror, that uh... actually, his childhood sucked too.

I don't really have a ton of plot for this but just the surrealism of holding himself as a baby and coming to the awful epiphany that he... deserved better? That his childhood was Not Good? That it wasn't just his brothers who were failed by the world in general -- but that he, Monkey D. Luffy, should not have been dumped in the care of a girl barely old enough to raise herself, much less a child. He should not have grown up with an empty, howling loneliness in him that drove him to do absolutely insane shit like try to stab his own eye out to prove himself worthy of joining a pirate crew, because he was so, so desperate to convince Shanks not to be yet another person who turned around and left Luffy all alone. He shouldn't have been tossed on his ass in a bandit's hut and told to fend for himself. It wasn't Dadan's fault, or Shank's, or Makino's. It maybe wasn't even Gramps's. But it still shouldn't have happened. Luffy deserved better.

This Luffy will get better, he'll grow up loved and kept right from the start, but... wow. Luffy had a bad childhood. Crazy. And he just lived like that? A whole lifetime? He never dealt with it? Crazy. He's gonna go sit down with his sons and try not to think about it.

What I don’t understand in shuggy is why oda added that brothers line. The in universe explanation of marines didn’t knew works, but we as readers? Why he decided to add that? I heard people talking that Japan is very specific about sworn brothers and shuggy are not but why even write that line? I don’t get this decision. Unless he wanted us to think they were like that or idk Did you ever talked about it from the author pov? Like everything author puts in his work he does on purpose. That line has to have a purpose. And what do you think it was? I’m not attacking, just finding good writer who likes shuggy so can answer that in smart way

well, first off i have to disagree with you: oda isn’t doing everything on purpose.

i mean that both in the sense that we know not everything about one piece has been planned all along, and in the sense that we know he’s added elements to his story and world unthinkingly. sometimes he forgets to draw things! sometimes he makes a joke and didn’t think through the implications! you should look through the SBS catalog sometime, it’s fun to see him come up with explanations for some of this stuff after the fact.

now, is the sworn brothers line one of those unthinkingly added elements? probably not. it feels like something written with intention to me.

what intention? as far as i can tell, just the textual one: to show how limited the marines’ understanding is.

the marines looking at buggy’s history with shanks and calling them sworn brothers shows how, even with all the facts in front of them—like viewing the complete impel down prison footage and deciding that luffy and buggy had the breakout planned from the start—the marines will consistently come to wildly incorrect conclusions about who buggy is, and why he does what he does.

(this has become a common theme with buggy & the marines in the years since marineford—just look at cross guild!)

i’m not even saying this as someone who views that relationship as romantic. shipper goggles off, i’m saying i simply do not believe buggy considers shanks a brother.

we’ve seen a sworn brothers’ bond before: the one between ace and luffy. we know how buggy thinks of shanks. the two relationships could not be more different. thus, by having the marines misidentify the buggy & shanks relationship as 兄弟分, as kyoudaibun, as sworn brothers, oda shows that the marines don’t understand buggy at all.

i really don’t think it’s any deeper than that.

i am certain that oda does not intend for a queer reading of shanks and buggy. i’ve said it before: oda is a remarkably queer-friendly shonen author as far as gender is concerned—though not so queer-friendly that one of the main characters of the series isn’t deeply transmisogynistic—but queer sexuality is just not present in the text.

now, that doesn’t do anything to stop me from having a queer reading of shanks and buggy. that doesn’t stop any of us from having all kinds of queer readings of one piece!

but it does mean that when you ask me, “i understand your point about the marines being wrong in-universe, but why did oda use the phrase sworn brothers?” a big part of me wants to say, “i don’t know, and i don’t care.”

i’m not a mind reader! i can’t tell you what oda was thinking! and frankly, it doesn’t matter to me what he was thinking! death of the author, you know? our interpretation as readers is equally, if not more, important than any theoretical authorial intent.

and even if oda does someday condescend to answer an SBS question about a five hundred chapter-old turn of phrase, and it turns out i’m totally wrong about everything… so what?

you’re not gonna “prove me wrong” about shuggy. i am under no delusions that i am “right.”

The school doesn't have school buses bc I said so (no I am not cruel it's just out of my budget /j). So Buggy takes the responsibility to keep them comfortable and entertained while they wait. Croco and Mihawk meeting this charming (and clown looking) blue-haired guy and they start courting him. Shanks gets dragged in on the courting bc of Luffy. Also he was already courting Buggy. okay i watched speak no evil (2022) and it was just as frustrating as u all promised. here are my thoughts

1. patrick seemed a bit more unlikeable in this one?? like even at the beginning when he was supposed to be in prime Manipulation Mode. idk maybe i’m biased to the 2024’s british-ness though

2. i also watched this one with my brother and right from the beginning he was being a certified complainer about the acting. i liked it though bc it felt less scripted in a way?? like idk they truly did just seem like an awkward little family that was excited to have new friends

3. i liked ciara here haha. im sorry im so awful with names (as u could tell by my last speak no evil rant LOL i couldn’t even remember ant’s name). i liked her in the 2024 version too, she was very (outwardly) bubbly and sweet, but i like how in this was she lowkey was not monkeying around. like louise said their house was small and she went “sorry we’re not made of money :/ get fucked idiots.” if anything i feel like patrick was the one getting all 🥺🥺

4. speaking of abel… why did they change his name to ANT in the remake?? like okay. maybe they were worried about a name like abel sticking out but like… i don’t know. they’re eccentric i feel like they could pull off having a kid named that

5. the stuffed animal scene!! lowkey think i prefer the twist of it being in the car the entire time bc it made everything so much more pointless but in a good way. like. yeah of course everything they did was for nothing bc whether or not the stuffed animal was in the car the entire time they still would have met the same fate bc the parents have no BACKBONE. if that makes any sense

6. okay… i think in europe nudity isn’t really that big of a deal and stuff, but i still was like literally so shocked that louise let the whole “patrick sleeping next to my daughter NAKED” thing slide. like even in the 2024 version where he was (minimally) clothed and ciara went into her whole sob story i still was so upset that louise let it slide bc the fact of the matter is that they still shouldn’t have had agnes in their bed. i do think that “where were you?” line ate downnn though

7. with that being said, the parents seem to love each other a lottt more. i actually did like how in this version they heard agnes asking for them but ignored her, maybe that’s why they didn’t try arguing with ciara and patrick that much about it (but even then… girl. patrick was butt booty naked. how the fuck was that not something we lingered on)

8. so many of the scenes were shot for shot with the remake, except for the last leg of the movie. i won’t talk about how the americans changed it into a thriller instead of unnerving dark cautionary tale and blah blah blah but i am gonna say that i prefer the american one ONLY BECAUSE there was an attempt to fight back. like im not asking for this big action-y scene where they crack skulls and shank their captors. im just asking for them to at least TRY. the biggest example that sticks out to me was when patrick left the car to go piss and the husband literally just sat there and stared at they keys. i feel like if we tried to grab them but then he got smacked around by the wife (or even if the wife stabbed him w the scissors she had!!) it would have given everything more tension while still making u frustrated that the husband didn’t just try to stick it out even though it was a losing battle

does that make sense? lol like maybe he could be lunging for the keys and ciara stabs him but he’s still trying to squirm into the drivers seat. but he’s not fast enough. and we as the audience know he’s not gonna be fast enough—especially when patrick notices something is wrong—but we’re still screaming at the screen anyway to tell him to hurry the fuck up

10. as u can prob tell i’m not very smart so when i watched the 2024 version and ant showed agnes the shed of all their victims i lowkey didn’t understand the specifics. like i knew that they were tryna kill the parents + take agnes but that was only bc of context clues. so when this scene came on in the 2022 version i felt like i could enjoy the creep factor much more as it showed the progression of their victims

11. i lowkey did not understand that scene where their car got stuck. like i guess they ended up calling patrick but personally if that were my family my dad would be like “hold up… im pushing the car forward” which would arguably be a worse plan than leaving ur wife and children in the vicinity of literal murderers but. yk. if me and my family were in this movie there wouldn’t BE a movie bc my dad does not fuck w the white man

12. lowkey louise was so robbed of agency in this movie. no wonder she started stripping without knowing what was up, in her pov her husband was acting strange and then her daughter got ripped away from her she literally had none of the desperation her man did to escape!!

13. the babysitter being a part of this. yall can’t tell me that what they’re doing isn’t some sort of cult-y community thing bc wtf. the same could be said for the 2024 version i suppose but i think the most american thing about this was we went “oh a brown immigrant man assisting in murdering and abducting children…? we have to scrap that” (which just to be clear i am glad we did scrap that. it’s just interesting seeing what other countries are doing esp since this movie was only made 2 years ago)

14. them stripping and getting stoned to death wtf!!!! again i don’t have a problem with this ending trust me. i love how dark it is. i just have a problem w the fact that they didnt TRY to do anything even though they knew patrick and ciara didnt have weapons. when they took agnes away louise started hitting at things instead of ciara and patrick, and my brother took a real big problem with that (he called it a temper tantrum lol) and yeah it made me roll my eyes too but i didn’t mind it bc at least she was given SOME fire. but idk maybe im just too american it seems like every time ur like “i just wish they would have pushed back a lil more” film critics are like “classic americans… not everything needs a big action scene to be considered cinema” like trust me im not asking for that. even when patrick threw like two (2) punches at the husband it would have been so much better if the husband got a blow in. not bc it would have turned the tide but bc they’re all already in too deep that a lil punch wasn’t gonna fix anything by a long shot

the demon perched upon the sun zosan pokemon au, another interesting concept, as the fic is told through an oc character. their goal is to beat the pokemon world champion but the world champion, zoro, has disappeared from society so they have to become the world champion and then find zoro where ever the fuck he is to reach their ultimate goal. sanji tags along on oc's quest. you meet the other strawhats every so often. so really its just zosan from outsider pov but done really really well imo. again, kinda angsty, but not heavy i promise

Thoughts on Buggy's older sister.

A/N: no one's gonna stop me and my brain is fully functioning again after my Week of Hell where i wasn't really sleeping. And I see Marco and think pineapple, sorry. he's also kind of a babe and i like that he has leg hair?? like really? Also there's a familiar face in this because I can't stop and won't stop.

Buggy's Older Sister who hides the heartbreak when the crew is split up. She has to be strong for Buggy and Shanks.

She doesn't cry when her captain is executed in front of thousands, instead she tries to comfort her little brother.

He yells at her after his fight with Shanks, says he doesn't need her around as well because why does it matter, everyone leaves anyways, no one is forever. He doesn't need anyone.

He's old enough to take care of himself so she does leave. She doesn't turn around to see the crushed look on her little brother's face when he realizes that he's alone for good now.

She can find a new crew.

And she does, running into that pineapple haired kid she met a few years prior. He asks what she's going to do now and she just shrugs.

"Come meet my Captain." Was all he said to change the course of her life.

And she joins this kid, though he's not that flirty 18 year old, he's a little older, a little more mature, and with some of the skills she learned from Crocus she is able to be one of the Captain's helpers, making sure he's taken care of.

She runs into her little brother years later by chance. Both crews are getting supplies and she spots him immediately in the crowds. He looks smug, chest puffed out as he struts down the road, looking as proud as he can with a pretty lady on his arm.

"Buggy." Was all she said for him to stop in his tracks and turn to face her. His nose was still red as hers, hair just as blue, the newest additions was the cross bones tattooed over his forehead and eyes which widened in recognition upon seeing his sister for the first time in years. "Who's this?"

"S-Sis, this, um, this is, um-" He stammered out, looking between his sister and the pretty woman. She had a flash of protectiveness for her brother upon seeing her. As a teenager he was never successful with the ladies, not like Shanks, so she wondered briefly what this woman was doing with her brother.

The young woman smiled and held her hand out. "I'm his wife, Sunny! Are you his sister? He's told me about you!"

"Oh." And she shook this pretty woman's hand, feeling a sense of warmth and love come off it. Maybe this was real, that her brother was going to be okay with this woman.

"We got married a few months ago." He mumbled, scratching his cheek as he looked away. "Didn't know how to tell you."

"We're going to get some lunch, would you like to join us?" Sunny asked with big smile. "I'd love to hear some embarrassing stories about him as a kid."

"Yea?" His sister grinned. "Maybe I will. I know I have plenty to share."

Buggy turned red and glared at his wife, but she just kissed his cheek. The love in her eyes for him was real, his sister could see that, because she saw firsthand when one of the crew on her ship looked at her, told her how much he loved her each night before bed, comforted her after nightmares.

Maybe Buggy was going to be taken care of after all and she didn't need to worry so much about him.

From what I remember mako has already met many important characters including 2 future strawhats and a powerful straw hat ally.

Assuming that not too much changes by the time the main story starts. How would these Chracters see mako as meeting her again. Like say meeting a grown up sanji and Law along with th baroque work robin? For me I would at least think sanji and law would be like big brothers to her.

Also any spoilers on who her dad is? Or who mako would be shipped with?

Not much is really different, just that Mako has been alive and in existence for like one more year, making her a year older than what she was originally, but it's also a bit of a mess since like, idk how to tell you, but Shanks is like barely 21 when he has Mako instead of 22, so oop, some things might end up changing, but also god dang, Yassop, you barely knew your own son and now you're just taking care of this rando Shark girl with the others ahahha.

No but seriously, this just means the Red Hair Pirates have Mako longer and that means further disaster because Yassop Daddy experience only goes for like a few months and Mako is half fishman, SO WHOOPS NEW TERRITORY.

So yeah, Robin and Sanji would be ecstatic to see her again, especially since the two of them went their separate ways to pursue their dreams, since Sanji won't get good experience as a cook with Shanks, and Robin, while absolutely delighted to know she is loved and considered important, knows that she has to leave the nest because she can't do what she wants with them and try as they may, they can't help coddling her a bit because Robin mcfucking did not have a good childhood, cmere, you get a hug.

Meanwhile Law would just be happy to see his friend again after so long, to the one person that taught him, alongside Robin, that even monsters deserve to live.

Seeing her thriving and also throwing a wrench in the world government's agenda by just casual exposing cover-ups in order to let the truth shine through....yeah, he’s happy to see her. Genuinely, no joke or nothing. Especially Robin and Sanji, though how the turn tables. He would've thought Mako would've been her own captain to a crew, but nah, she's content letting Luffy do it while being the resident lifeguard cuz she can swim. And also fish. :V

Her dad isn't actually anyone we know but an OC, like a rando mako shark fishman who effectively got picked out of the bunch to pair up with a Kuja Pirate who wasn't exactly considered a good wife for a Celestial Dragon (aka, dude was sterile, or at the very least got poor kid making skills), so curiosity plus pettiness and a bet equals Mako into the mix. Which is very bad.

That said, Mako's bio dad is related to some existing characters. And I will say this, Arlong won't exactly take to well to ever seeing her, because she serves as a constant reminder in a cog to a tragedy.

(Hint: it involves Koala going home - you can figure it out there, but yeah, Mako's uncle is pretty famous :V)

(He also had a hand in how Mako's mother was able to escape and while Mama was hoping to go back to Amazon Lily, she at least was in a safe place amongst Shanks crew when she gave birth to Mako)

Originally, i didn't have romance in mind, but honestly, I'm at a whatever happens, happens, because Mako's circumstances are so unique and complicated, that her situation allows her complexity, given how 17 seems to be the age at which people are considered adults or at least allowed to drink, and being a pirate just adds to it, mixed in with being someone who has a bounty.

Romance isn't off the table for her, so keep an eye out for it. Dont expect anytjing until after the time skip tho, she’s a little like Luffy in that it's the last thing on her mind lmao.

But also she's got a storm coming her way come Whole Cake Island because Big Mom wants Shanks's daughter for connections so...

Lucky son Katakuri got picked by my friends, so that's gonna be a "bruh wtf"

Valentine's Week : Familial

Ohhhh familial f/os oh my familial f/os. These guys do genuinely mean so much to me you don't even know man. I'm gonna ramble about my fictional dads and siblings to my hearts content!

I'm gonna start with the Powerful Dad Quartet!

Buggy, Mihawk, and Shanks in particular really REALLY resonate with me like. THOSE ARE MY DADS! Shanks was probably the first that I connected with like family when I watched OPLA for the first time. Then I watched Film: Red and I was sold wahah. In my head he's who hypes me up and has my back the most and that's means.. alot. Next was Buggy who happened after I started my watch of the anime and got to know him better. He reminds me a lot of the irl father figures I've had in my life, which is a trend you'll see as we go on. He's explosive and impulsive and loud and kind of an ass but that's part of the fun I think. I have problems speaking up for myself and setting boundaries especially around men so the idea of him understanding and respecting me but still being his goofy and obnoxious self is.. kind of like practicing in my head, you know? MIHAWK MY DAD MIHAWK! Okay going to be honest my connection to him mostly builds off Goth Family headcanons and inserting myself into them wahah. That doesn't mean I don't have my reason's though. Mihawk is like the soft-spoken but earnest autistic dad I didn't know I needed. The kind to listen to my rambles and interests and be supportive even if he doesn't get it at all, you know? Don't tell anyone but he's my favorite lkndalkadflnk And the most recent is Crocodile! Which I don't have enough to give proper thoughts outside of I enjoy him a lot and him being in Cross Guild was the final push to just go ahead and add him. He gives me scary-dad "my daddy's got a gun" privilege's./hj NOW I CAN TALK ABOUT MY PIRATE SIBLINGS. :D

LUFFY AND UTA MY BROTHER AND SISTER LUFFY AND UTA!

When I tell you from the BEGINNING I got some little brother energy from Luffy wahah. I can't tell you the kinship I feel with Luffy and it's not just because he also gives me gender envy. I think getting a full body arm wrap hug from him would fix me and make me the happiest person on earth. AND UTA!! I need just one movie and snacks night with her and I think we'd connect instantly. Their isn't much outside of sibling energy with these two and the connections to Shanks with both of them. I realized if Shanks is my dad these two are my brother and sister and when I tell you I WAS SO HAPPY. Absolute goobers <3 Now onto the non One Piece people!!

Silver my amazing cyborg dad Silver <3 This was probably my first emotionally charged familial f/o. I learned about Treasure Planet during the emotional rollarcoaster that was 2020 and I got attached QUICKLY! He's another one of my many fatherly f/os that really really reminds me of the father figures I've had in my real life and that effects how I interact with him. Silver was one of the few characters at the time that really said what I needed to hear, you know? I saw myself a lot emotionally in Jim and watching the pep talks he was given by Silver felt like I was getting those too. Once again I think a full body beer belly hug would fix me waha.

GLAMROCK FREDDY!!! MY SUPERSTAR!! I am not immune to big robot dad influences. For all it's faults Security Breach didn't hold any punches with the characterization of their animatronics and their is no better an example than Glamrock Freddy! I was just as affected by the "way to go Superstar!" and got attached QUICKLY! He's just such a sweetie and is such a good dad he would make sure I was so so loved and supported.

AND I NEED TO MENTION THE WACHOSKI'S !!! This group genuinely gives me such soft and sunshiney feelings for a family that only exists in two movies (not to say I don't connect with Tails and Knuckles outside of the movies but them in this family format Hits Different) They are THE definition of a comfort family for me and I can't help at look and Maddie and Tom and see parents, you know? They bring me such a sense of childlike joy and carefreeness that's unparalleled. And Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic are so like. Sweet and realistic in the sense of being siblings, you know? I would gladly sign up to be the nerdy but cool older siblings in their group. I wear the badge of being the one to get us out of trouble like a BADGE!

And some honorable mentions to Astrid, Giovanni, and Wukong as well even though I don't have the time to talk about them too much! A lot of my familial f/os come from a place of projection and healing from my unhealthy home life growing up and these three mean a lot to me in that way. Giovanni and Astrid really really remind me of my own mother and the father figures in my life and through them I come to understand that more and help myself feel better about that situation I was put in. And Wukong reminds me a lot of an unperfect dad who's at least trying and learning and growing as a person as well as being a male role model I didn't get to have.

Since you asked me to remind you: please make a sequel of the Shanks trains Ace and adopts him fic requested by yozoraarashi.

“Why did you kidnap me,” Ace demands, eyes bright and full of fire, his hands curled into fists looking far more like his mother than his father, the same brand of righteous anger and coldness that he had seen during attacks. “You had no right, I trusted you.”

“You wouldn’t have talked to me if I had told you, little one.”

Ace growls, “You don’t get to call me that. You kidnapped me, you stole me and locked me up.” He shakes his hands, the chains rattling. “I’m stuck here because of you.”

“Ace,” Shanks says softly, his hand held up to calm him down. “I’m not going to hurt you, I want to help you. But if I had told you why, you never would have let me.”

“Why would I refuse your help?” Ace demands. “You’re Luffy’s friend. He trusts you.”

Shanks tilts his head, “I was one of Gol D Roger’s cabin boys. He use to say that when he had children that I could be their older brother. He was so excited when Rouge said that she was pregnant with you.”

“Fuck you,” Ace growls. “Fuck you and fuck him.”

“Ace,” Shanks states trying to get him to calm down. “What do you know about your father?”

“I know enough,” Ace snaps. “I know enough about him. About what a monster he was and what he did.”

“Oh, little one,” Shanks sighs, moving closer, ignoring the fist that Ace tries to throw at him. “Little one, I’m not going to hurt you, please relax please?”

“Fuck you.”

“I take it that he’s not taking it well,” Benn says leaning against the wall as Shanks comes out of the room they had locked Ace away in.

“Of course he hasn’t,” Shanks sighs, scrubbing his face. “He’s pissed.”

“Will he understand and forgive you for this at some point?”

“I don’t know. Not with how much he seems to hate Roger. I want him to understand why Roger did what he did, I want him to know what his father was like. What he was really like, not what he was told about.”

Benn sighs, “This might not have been the best idea, Captain.”

“He’s my little brother, Benn, I have to at least try.”
