I wanna get to know more about cod but idk where to start.
When I was younger I new of cod,but I wasn’t really into it.As I never had a console, (I was a wii kid 😭) my parents wouldn’t allow me to play those types of games.
but now that I’m older I joined the fandom a bit late and I wanna know where to start like what comics? I need to read, what game I should play first or watch a gameplay of etc
hi anon! thank you so much for asking :) it is a little daunting when you first look at it (especially with so many games, there's over 20+). i would recommend playing these/watching the gameplay in this order and i included some of the extra content where it fits with the games. the wiki is also a great source for information. here's a little timeline for you! this is primarily focusing on the cod: modern warfare series.
so what most people want to know is where to start if you're interested in the modern warfare story (with price, gaz. ghost, and simon). call of duty is separated into 4 different arcs: world war ii, modern warfare, black ops, and standalone games. as such it doesn't matter what order you play the overall games but within each category, they are mostly released with extra content in order
the initial games (2007-2011) what started it all for the reboots! the story has all the familiar faces but a different story! this includes soap and price having a stronger dynamic (as oppose to the reboot's Price/Gaz and Soap/Ghost). the timeline of the characters are also different compared to the reboot as you'll see throughout the games (this includes major events and character deaths). we follow Captain Price and his Taskforce 141 as they fight through various enemies and try to save the world. there is also more of an emphasis on joint missions (and playable characters) from the US military and federal agencies. there are also more playable characters (Sgt. Paul Jackson, Sgt. Gary "Roach" Sanderson, PFC Joseph Allen and James Ramirez, Yuri, SSG Derek "Frost" Westbrook, and Sgt. Marcus Burns). overall summaries: suggestive gaming | the leaderboard (timeline) price and soap's story: inkslasher
Soap's Journal from the Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - 2011 part of the collector's edition for MW3, this 80+ page book details soap's pov for various events happening prior to the first game and through the last game. this includes military sketches, diagrams, and written entries from soap. soap's journal
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - 2007 gameplay: gamingabsolute | gamer's little playground (only cutscenes)
Modern Warfare 2: Ghost - 2009 my post summary | the comic simon's story explained: inkslasher
Modern Warfare 2 - 2009 shameless promo here but this is my favorite game in the whole series! gameplay: mkiceandfire | gamer's little playground (only cutscenes)
Modern Warfare 3 - 2011 gameplay: nrmwalkthroughhd | gamer's little playground (only cutscenes)
the reboot (2019-2023) while sharing the same name/characterization as some of the characters in the initial series (including Price, Soap, Gaz, Ghost, Nikolai, Makarov, and General Shepherd), this story line is different from the initial series. instead of having many separate missions, it primarily follows Cpt. Price's Taskforce 141 and their allies, Laswell + Alex from the CIA, Urzik's rebel leader Farah Karim, Colonel Alejandro Vargas and SGM Rodlfo "Rudy" Parra, Nikolai, and PMC Commander Graves. the dynamics have changed in the game with the games focusing on Price and Gaz (+ Alex, Laswell, and Farah), then Soap and Ghost (+ Los Vaqueros and Graves).
Modern Warfare - 2019 gameplay: tmartn2 | shirrako (only cutscenes) summary: suggestive gaming | gamespot
Warzone - 2019 this six season battle royale style video game includes many of the characters from the main game. there are also various stories at align with the narratives in Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and Vanguard. summary: inkslasher
Modern Warfare II - 2022 gameplay: gamer's little playground | adguideshd (only cutscenes) summary: mrroflwaffles
Modern Warfare III - 2023 to be released in november

Sam Mendes partners with Sony and Apple for Four Beatle Theatrical Movies
Today it was announced that Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes will be directing four movies about The Beatles, each one about the individual Fab Four: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Sir Paul, Sir Ringo and the estates of Lennon and Harrison have granted life rights and music rights to the scripted films. As a lifelong Beatle fanatic (I just named "Now and Then" my #1 Song of 2023 last week) this peaked my interest!
Mendes is a solid director. I was a big fan of American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Away We Go, 1917 and Empire of Light. So I'm confident he's going to do the right thing and not mess this up. There's been quite a few Beatle documentaries in recent years notably Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back. But in terms of a scripted film about The Beatles' that's been easier said than done over the years. There have been a number of TV movies about the individual Beatles, but theatrically it's been few and far between. There's been loads of films inspired by The Beatles, i.e. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Across the Universe, and Yesterday. One of the great films about Beatle-mania (not so much The Beatles themselves but the fans) was I Wanna Hold Your Hand. The best one about Lennon was Nowhere Boy, in which Aaron Johnson played Lennon as a teen. One of my favorites about The Beatles is Backbeat about their early days in Hamburg, mainly the relationship between Lennon (Ian Hart) and Stu Sutcliffe (Stephen Dorf). Paul, George and Pete Best were also portrayed in the film too, but very minor roles outside of the performances.
Bottom line: getting the life rights and music rights to The Beatles is a serious get, which is why is hasn't been done too often, done right, or they tried to do it without the music. I think if each movie is going to be each Beatles' story with their own POV of what happened that could really work, especially for a director like Mendes!
Oh and Mr. Mendes - if you need a consultant for any of these films, feel free to contact me!

Okay, you have your date or friend group that you're going with. You as the guest are in your formal attire. Lets get this party started! (Every year and in every venue its the same setup, same ceremony, and same food)
1845-1900
You show up to the venue with your date. The ball room is set. There are about a dozen round tables draped with a beautiful white table cloth. There is a round red and gold table cloth in the center of the table. On it sits two pitchers one with water and the other with iced sweet tea. In front of each seat is a set of silverware for each course, a wine glass, a water/tea glass, a pamphlet with tonight's events, and a neatly folded napkin. Each section is sat with each other. A chair left empty next to your Marine for you of course.
Usually the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer will put money down for everyone to get one free drink. The venue offers two bars. Both the lines are a bit long but you can just chat while you wait. There plenty of people to be introduced too and everyone is saying "Happy Birthday" to each other. If you're stationed in an allied country like Japan there are guests from their military as well.
The bar has a wide variety. Wine, shots, mixed drinks, and juice if you arent drinking. They even sell cigars. You and your date get your drinks and socialize. You get to meet their peers and squad members. This is also the time to take pictures! You walk towards the entrance of the venue with your date. There is always a professional Photographer waiting. The American flag and Marine Corps flag are proudly displayed in front of a royal red backdrop. The backdrop has accents of gold.
The photographer asks if you want their pictures or just on your phone. You both pose and smile. The pictures came out amazing. Your Marine will take some photos with their shop and then you'll head back into the venue. Another drink?
2005
Man that hour went by fast! The five minute warning has just been called. You and your Marine go to your seats and wait for the ceremony to begin.
2010
The ceremony starts. Everyone is seated and quiet. There's always one rushing back to their seat from the bathroom. (You can watch a full ceremony from last year here but im going to summarize it. Im speaking from my experience overseas but the video is stateside Marine Corps)
The band does their introduction segment commencing the start of the ceremony. The march forward turn and march back. Next comes the sword detail. There are 4 pairs that walk through. There are both Enlisted Marines and Officers in the sword detail. They march in pairs to their position and once are all in place the Commanding Officer, Sergeant Major, and XO march past the sword detail to the front of the stage. Everyone stands when they walk by to show respect. Next comes the color guard with the American Flag and Marine Corps flag and two rifles march onto stage. Everyone stays standing to honor the colors are they pass. The National Anthem is played followed by Anchors Away and then the Marine Corps Hymn. Which every Marine sings!!
The cake is then marched onto stage while the band plays. A traditional speech is made. Then the CO cuts the cake with the NCO sword giving a slice to the guest speaker. The another slice to the oldest Marine. The oldest Marine takes a fork full and passes it to the youngest Marine for a fork full. This symbolizes the passing of traditions!
After that the color guard marches off stage followed by the cake detail and oldest and youngest Marine. The CO, XO, and SgtMaj exit the stage. Then the sword detail. The guest speaker will then give their speech and then the birthday message will play. I have it linked below. It was fire this year!!
youtube
2110
The ceremony ends and the bars open. Half the Marines there rush to the bathroom and the other half to the bar. The venue staff start to bring out a shrimp cocktail appetizer. After 15 minutes they bring out a salad. Then after about another 15 minutes they bring out the main course. There are four options chicken, steak, fish, and vegetarian.
2200 - 0130
The dance floor opens. You are free to leave at this time if you want. The venue service starts clearing off the tables and the DJ starts playing music. Marines go outside to smoke cigars others hit the bar for the 4-5th time. The dance floor gets crazy. The CO will even bust some moves on the dance floor. Medals come off so no one looses them (Plus they are so freaking expensive) and everyone has fun till the venue closes.
I hope you enjoyed your ball <3
Happy Birthday Marines!! Semper Fi

Cloying “Now and Then” Video Overdoes the Digital Schmaltz
Captured in black-and-white at the height of Beatlemania, the Fab Four take a bow and slowly fade away. Then, too, does the word Beatles.
So concludes Peter Jackson’s new video for “Now and Then,” the John Lennon demo transformed in to what’s being marketed as “the last Beatles song,” which Sound Bites reviewed here.
Jackson dug up some eye-popping footage to make this video, most notably a snippet of the Pete Best-era band in what’s believed to be the earliest extant film of the group; the hard-luck drummer isn’t visible. And there is no denying the impact when after the words, Now and then, I miss you are sung, the “Get Back” director cuts to footage of George Harrison and Lennon joyously sharing a mic at the Fabs’ final paid gig in 1965.
The “Now and Then” video is a mix of previously unseen Beatles footage; clips from the Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper’s phases; studio shots of Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr during the Anthology sessions; and contemporary film of McCartney and Starr finishing work on “Now and Then.”
Jackson helped develop the technology that allowed the band to extract Lennon’s voice from the original demo in high quality, making the song possible. But he doesn’t seem to know when to say when to technological advances as he overuses digital innovations to create scenes of the octogenarian Starr drumming alongside the 20-something Starr; flanks the modern Starr and McCartney with Sgt. Pepper’s-era Lennon and Harrison; and puts a young Lennon in front of the orchestra that in 2023 recorded the string arrangement for “Now and Then.”
One such impossible scenario might have had some impact. But Jackson squeezes in so many, they become cloying and silly.
And in the end, the public can choose call this the last Beatles video for the last Beatles song. But the last Beatles song came out in 1970 and the last Beatles session was the one that put the finishing touches on “I Me Mine.”
Neither “Free as a Bird,” nor “Real Love,” nor “Now and Then” changes that fact.

Record collecting is an expensive hobby but it also honestly brings me so much joy. There’s still so much I want to buy and will buy (tbh) but I keep going to record sales and not remembering what I own and almost buying doubles of the same album, so that’s why this list exists. But I also saw folks publishing their lists earlier and I love seeing what people have in their collections (truly I’d love to see yours if you wanted to post it!) Jesus, that ear. He should donate it to the Smithsonian. The records I used to listen to and still love, you can't make a record that sounds that way. Brian Wilson, he made all his records with four tracks, but you couldn't make his records if you had a hundred tracks today. (Bob Dylan)
I figure no one is educated musically 'til they've heard Pet Sounds. I love the orchestra, the arrangements – it may be going overboard to say it's the classic of the century – but to me, it certainly is a total, classic record that is unbeatable in many ways. I've often played Pet Sounds and cried. (Paul McCartney)
This ("The Little Girl I Once Knew") is the greatest! Turn it up, turn it right up. It's got to be a hit. It's the greatest record I've heard for weeks. It's fantastic. I hope it will be a hit. It's all Brian Wilson. He just uses the voices as instruments. You keep waiting for the fabulous breaks. Great arrangement. (John Lennon)
He's like Mozart or Chopin or Beethoven or something. This music will live forever. It's going to be these melodies and these words, and it's just fantastic. I can't describe it. There's very few writers I feel the emotional and spiritual contact with that I feel with Brian. (Neil Young)
Brian was the most highly regarded pop musician in America, hands down. Everybody by that time had figured out who was writing and arranging it all. “In My Room” was the defining point for me. When I heard it, I thought "I give up – I can't do that – I'll never be able to do that." (David Crosby)
I was maybe too young to really appreciate how incredibly sophisticated the music was. I just saw five guys wearing the same shirt holding one surfboard and I thought it was lame. But all that changed when I heard Pet Sounds. Imagine a band influencing the Beatles. (Jackson Browne)
If there is one person that I have to select as a living genius of pop music, I would choose Brian Wilson. Without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper wouldn't have happened. Pepper was an attempt to equal Pet Sounds. (George Martin)
I love Brian. There's not many people I would say that about. I think he's a truly, truly, truly great genius. I love him so much it's just terrible – I find it hard to live with.”God Only Knows” is simple and elegant and was stunning when it first appeared; it still sounds perfect. (Pete Townshend)
The man's a genius! Actually, when you hear other people doing his numbers, it makes you appreciate just how good those original songs are. (Jimmy Page)

Documentary Review - The Beatles: Get Back
I am a firm believer that if you are going to make a documentary about The Beatles, the filmmaker needs to shine a light on some new aspect of The Beatles’ history or present something new, otherwise they are just reiterating what was already said with the 1982 feature The Compleat Beatles and 1995′s doc mini-series The Beatles Anthology, which were the most comprehensive Beatle docs ever. Sometimes it can be interesting if it’s a close collaborator being profiled (Freda Kelly, Pete Best, George Martin, or Stuart Sutcliffe have all had interesting docs). Sometimes it can be interesting if its bringing new elements of their story to light, i.e. Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Year, which focused on their live performances and had some never-before-seen footage to present. Fortunately for all of us, Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson (known for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films) shares my philosophy about Beatle docs. While Jackson is mostly known for narrative film, he’s had a foot in the doc world over the last decade by producing the doc West of Memphis about the West Memphis Three and directing the World War I doc They Shall Not Grow Old. Now he is turning his attention to the Fab 4, but specifically their recording of Get Back / Let It Be. His 3-part documentary mini-series The Beatles: Get Back began premiering on Disney+ this week and concludes today.
movie poster
In early 1969, only a few months after The White Album was released (read my review of the 50th anniversary edition here), they began recording their follow up. The recording was tense to say the least. After the Get Back sessions (as they were known) were complete, the band decided to shelve the sessions and focus on their next recording, which would be Abbey Road (read my review of the 50th anniversary edition here). The band came back to the Get Back sessions in early 1970 with producer Phil Spector and it became Let It Be, which was released on May 8, 1970…by which point The Beatles were essentially over as Paul McCartney announced his departure a month earlier. Beatle fans have often debated Abbey Road vs. Let It Be as being the final Beatles album. While Abbey Road feels like the final statement from the Fab 4, Let It Be was the last album released and therefore historically it is the last album. Even before I owned this album, I listened to my Dad’s copy many times and even acquired some bootleg cassette tapes of the Get Back sessions. People don’t talk about Let It Be the same way they talk about Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt. Pepper, White Album or Abbey Road, and I can’t understand why. It is a fantastic album from start to finish. As I noted in my album review of the reissue of Let It Be last month, “When a lot of fans listen to the original album or watch the Let It Be documentary film (now out of print), it feels like we’re witnessing the band breaking up. There was tension and bickering and it didn’t seem like the joy and happiness of their earlier years.“
Let It Be album cover
While the band was recording the album, they were also being filmed for the 1970 documentary Let It Be, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. The 1970 doc has been out of print for quite some time (I got my copy though!). For the last few years, Jackson has been working on a documentary about this recording session while having full access to the footage that was filmed for Let It Be. Jackson’s 3-part documentary clocks in at almost 8 hours. Filmed over the course of January 1969, the doc begins at Twickenham Film Studios, then Apple Studios, and then the rooftop concert at Apple Corps headquarters.
The Beatles at the colorful Twickenham Film Studios
This documentary is going to put the entire recording of this album into an entirely different context. After seeing Let It Be and listening to the album, it is often thought of that this is where the band came apart at the seems. But there were more than a few moments of camaraderie and joking around. While there was moments of tension (one of the band members actually quits), this working relationship was like a marriage or a brotherhood, where there are highs but also lows. In Lindsay-Hogg’s doc, the focus is on the recording and the film crew is rarely seen. In Jackson’s doc, the film crew making the Let It Be doc is seen quite a bit interacting with the Fab 4. This doc is breaking down the fourth wall in a big way.
recording at Apple Studios
As someone who has made documentaries before, I know firsthand how hard it is to cut it down to two hours. Lindsay-Hogg had to whittle his doc down to 81 minutes. Jackson in 2021 had the luxury of being able to whittle 60 hours of doc footage down to almost 8 hours as a mini-series for Disney+. Such options didn’t exist in 1970, but with a mini-series this is really able to take its time and not feel the pressure to show only the version featured on the album, but the lesser versions too. And my goodness - the original doc footage looks spectacular. Jackson and his team deserve so much credit for the preservation of this footage!
the famous rooftop concert
I recently listened to Conan O’Brien’s podcast with guest Dana Carvey (a Beatle fan) and he shared his theory about The Beatles: that they were the only ones who could be in that band, because they were the only ones who could wonder if they were good enough to be in that band. I found myself thinking of that while watching this candid fly-on-the-wall footage. There are things in this doc that no Beatle obsessive has seen before. It is a serious deep dive into this album’s recording. Haters are going to say that it is For Fans Only, but so be it. In many ways this is a doc about the creative process and how a song goes from its early incarnation into being a classic. Its not so much For Fans Only as it is a doc that is expecting the audience to come into this with some knowledge of the band at this point in history. I try my best to not give away spoilers here, so I’m just going to say much about the big surprises, just that you should binge the entire mini-series in less than a week. This is raw, emotional, and visceral and more than just Beatles fans, anyone who loves music should be seeing this. I out and out loved every minute of this! Jackson’s best movie by a landslide.
