Just had a sinking feeling in my gut as I think about how Alexa and Janusz, after years of hardship and trying to build their lives back up after losing so much, have to watch as their world dissolves into yet another world war.

currently trying to write an essay and my mood is Alexa going "I wish I knew how to say words"

having lots of thoughts about the 'Ballet on the Battlefield' alternate universe where only Alexa got out, and she had to leave Janusz behind

he was at the window, you know.

he had everything prepared, because he knew Alexa. he knew she'd come back, but before he could get out, Madame Romanoff got there first.

you really should've seen the look on Alexa's face, too! she was already flying away, but that girl never knew what was good for her and now just look at all the trouble she's gotten her little friend into.

Alexa also always struggled with decisions, but one look at Janusz' face and- she couldn't hear him, but she pretended that he was telling her to leave.

it's what he would've wanted, and that's what she tells herself as she turns her back.

Janusz won't realise this until years later when he still works at the same ballet school, is raising his own mini-Janusz, and is watching day-by day, as the once powerful Madame Romanoff has started to fade away- but Alexa always had a suitcase in her hand.

in all honesty, he should've known that when it all came to it at the end, she would do what's best for herself. Petrova always told him so, and that woman was like Alexa's mother.

once, his son (Fyodor) sneaks into the main school, and is found in front of the television: eyes starry; mouth agape; speechless- which was strange for him. when Madame Romanoff drags him back to the help's quarters, he tells Janusz everything he saw.

she was beautiful. swan-like grace (but didn't really do a lot of the traditional French ballet moves, and 'papa, i thought zat all of ze ballerinas had to do zese fancy moves!!') and suddenly Janusz was seven years old again, and the window was wide open.

it had never been closed, only pulled-to with the curtains covering it.

for the first time in a while, Janusz heard the birds again.

I've been having thoughts and I have come to the conclusion that Alexa from ballet on the battlefield was dancing for the Ballet Russes.

The Ballet Russes were a ballet company who were very popular in Europe during the 1910s and 1920s. Most of their dancers were trained in Russia then they moved to Europe to tour with the Ballet Russes.

It would make sense for Alexa to be dancing for them because she's Russian and it would be a highly desirable birthday present for the kaiser for the ballet to perform for him

Anyways that's just my thoughts
