The air in the Hogwarts greenhouse was thick with the scent of soil and herbs as Y/N moved gently through the rows of plants. She had always found comfort here, among the vibrant greenery and the soft hum of magical growth. Herbology was her sanctuary, and each day she poured her heart into tending to the rare plants and teaching her students how to care for them with the same tenderness.
It was peaceful, or at least, it had been until recently.
As of late, her tranquility had been invaded by a certain new presence at the school—Gilderoy Lockhart, the newly appointed Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. His arrival had caused quite the stir, especially among the female students and even some of the staff, but for Y/N, his constant attention was becoming more than a little uncomfortable.
At first, she had thought it was just harmless friendliness. Lockhart had swept into her greenhouse on the first week of term, his toothy smile gleaming as brightly as the medals on his robes.
"My dear Professor Y/N!" he had exclaimed, clasping his hands together in a gesture that was all too theatrical. "I must say, you have the most enchanting little space here! It’s no wonder the students speak so highly of you."
Y/N had blushed, embarrassed by the attention, and murmured something about the plants deserving the praise, not her. Lockhart, however, had waved away her modesty with a laugh that echoed too loudly in the intimate confines of the greenhouse.
"Nonsense, nonsense! I can see that you put as much care into your work as I do into my own," he said, leaning in just a little too close. "You and I, we have much in common, I think."
She had smiled politely, trying not to shrink under his overly familiar presence. She wasn’t used to people being so forward with her. It wasn’t that she was oblivious—Y/N had noticed Lockhart’s flirtations—but she simply didn’t know how to respond. Confrontation wasn’t in her nature, and she didn’t want to create awkwardness among the staff. So, she had smiled, and tried to extricate herself from his attention as gracefully as she could.
But it didn’t stop there.
Lockhart’s visits to the greenhouse became more frequent. He would find reasons to come by during her lessons, interrupting her with flamboyant anecdotes about his supposed adventures. The students would giggle or roll their eyes, but Y/N found herself growing more and more uneasy. His compliments had become more pointed, more personal, always accompanied by a lingering touch on her arm or a too-familiar smile.
"Professor Y/N," Lockhart had said one afternoon, as he appeared at her greenhouse once more, his robes billowing dramatically behind him. "I was just telling the Headmaster how much we make the perfect team, you and I. Perhaps we should write a book together! Herbs and Heroics, don’t you think? It would sell like that." He snapped his fingers, leaning toward her again.
Y/N’s discomfort had risen, her hands twisting nervously around a sprig of dittany. "I—I’m really not a writer, Professor Lockhart. I don’t think—"
"Nonsense!" he interrupted, his tone dripping with charm. "With your knowledge of plants and my experience, we’d make quite the pair. Don’t you think?"
His hand brushed her shoulder as he spoke, and Y/N stiffened slightly. She gave a weak smile, hoping he’d take the hint, but once again, she found herself trapped by her own politeness. She didn’t want to upset him, didn’t want to cause a scene, but Merlin, how she wished he would leave her alone.
Across the castle, in the dimly lit Potions classroom, Severus Snape stood over a cauldron, stirring the mixture with precise movements, though his mind was far from the task at hand.
For weeks now, he had been watching. Watching as Lockhart fawned over Y/N, as he invaded her personal space with that nauseating smile and those absurd stories. It was infuriating. Severus had always been protective of Y/N—more than he would ever admit. They had worked together for years now, and though their relationship had never ventured beyond professional, he had long harbored feelings for her that he kept buried deep inside.
He had always told himself that Y/N deserved better than him, better than someone as broken and cold as he was. She was kind, too kind for the likes of him. So, he had never acted on his feelings, content to watch from the sidelines, to enjoy the small moments when they shared quiet conversations about rare herbs or discussed the latest potions ingredients she had gathered for him.
But now, with Lockhart constantly hovering around her, Severus found his resolve crumbling.
At first, he had tried to ignore it. Lockhart was a buffoon, and surely Y/N would see through his ridiculous posturing soon enough. But day after day, Severus watched as Lockhart showered her with attention, and worst of all, Y/N didn’t reject him. She didn’t push him away. She didn’t seem to be upset by his advances.
And that was what hurt the most.
Perhaps, Severus thought bitterly, she liked Lockhart’s attention. Perhaps she enjoyed the compliments, the flirtation. Why wouldn’t she? Lockhart was everything Severus wasn’t—charming, outgoing, and confident. And while Severus could see through the man’s facade, perhaps Y/N couldn’t.
Perhaps she was falling for him.
The thought sent a cold wave of pain through Severus, and he found himself withdrawing from Y/N more and more. It was easier that way. Easier to distance himself before he had to watch her fall into Lockhart’s arms. He started avoiding her, no longer lingering in the staffroom when she entered, no longer stopping by her greenhouse to ask for ingredients. He couldn’t bear it. Couldn’t bear to watch her be swept away by someone so unworthy of her, and yet… someone she seemed to be accepting.
Y/N had noticed the change almost immediately.
Severus was avoiding her.
For weeks now, he had been cold, distant, and she couldn’t understand why. She had always admired Severus, despite his stern demeanor and cutting remarks. There was something about him that intrigued her, something deeper, and over the years, she had come to value the rare moments when he let his guard down, even if just for a second.
But now, it was as if he had built a wall between them. She couldn’t even catch his eye in the hallways, and whenever she tried to speak to him, he dismissed her with a curt nod or a sharp word. It hurt more than she cared to admit. She missed him, missed their quiet conversations and the way he would surprise her with his vast knowledge of plants and potions.
At first, she thought she had done something to upset him, but no matter how many times she went over their last conversations, she couldn’t find anything wrong. It wasn’t until she saw the way Severus’s eyes flickered with something close to anger when he caught her speaking with Lockhart that she began to piece it together.
Could it be… jealousy?
The thought was almost too much to believe. Severus, jealous of Lockhart? The idea seemed absurd, and yet, the more she thought about it, the more sense it made. She had seen the way his expression darkened when Lockhart was near, the way his jaw clenched whenever the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor tried to engage her in conversation.
But if Severus was upset, he wasn’t going to tell her. He was too stubborn for that.
So, after weeks of being brushed aside, Y/N decided she needed to confront him. She couldn’t take the cold distance anymore, and if he was angry with her, she needed to know why.
One evening, after a particularly long day in the greenhouse, Y/N made her way down to the dungeons. She had seen Severus slip out of the Great Hall after dinner, his usual shadowy presence retreating into the depths of the castle. She followed him, her heart pounding in her chest with nerves, but she was determined to get answers.
She found him in his office, sitting behind his desk, a quill in hand as he scrawled something into a large, leather-bound book. He didn’t look up when she knocked softly on the doorframe.
"Severus," she said quietly, stepping into the room.
He didn’t respond at first, his eyes remaining fixed on the parchment before him.
"Severus," she repeated, a little more firmly.
With a sigh of irritation, he finally glanced up, his dark eyes cold and unreadable. "What do you want, Y/N?"
Y/N hesitated, her fingers twisting nervously together. "I… I need to know why you’ve been avoiding me."
Severus’s expression didn’t change. He set his quill down, leaning back in his chair with a look of cool indifference. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Yes, you do," Y/N pressed, stepping closer to his desk. "You’ve been avoiding me for weeks now, and I don’t understand why. Did I do something to upset you?"
He let out a harsh laugh, though there was no humor in it. "Upset me? No, Y/N, you didn’t upset me. I simply have no interest in wasting my time with someone like you."
The words hit her like a physical blow, and she took a step back, her eyes widening in hurt and confusion. "Someone like me? What does that mean?"
Severus’s gaze was sharp, his voice colder than she had ever heard it. "You know exactly what it means. I’ve seen the way you prance around with Lockhart, letting him fawn over you like some lovesick puppy. Clearly, you enjoy the attention."
Y/N’s heart clenched painfully in her chest. "I—Severus, it’s not like that. I don’t—"
But he cut her off, his words laced with bitterness. "Don’t insult my intelligence, Y/N. I’ve seen how you let him flirt with you, how you blush and smile like a schoolgirl..I don’t have time for someone like you. If you enjoy Lockhart’s company so much, then by all means, continue. But don’t expect me to waste my time on someone who can’t even see past his ridiculous charm."
Y/N felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes, the weight of his cruel words crushing her. She had never seen Severus like this, so angry, so hurt. She opened her mouth to speak, to defend herself, but the words wouldn’t come. All she could do was stand there, frozen in place, as Severus’s cold gaze bore into her.
When she finally found her voice, it was barely a whisper. "I never wanted his attention, Severus. I’ve only ever—"
"Enough," Severus snapped, standing abruptly and turning away from her. "I don’t want to hear it. If you wish to continue entertaining that fool, that’s your business. But I will not be part of it."
With that, he stormed out of the room, leaving Y/N standing there, her heart shattered and tears spilling down her cheeks. She had come for answers, but all she had found was pain.
The following days were a blur for Y/N. She avoided the staffroom, avoided Severus, and kept to herself in the greenhouse. She couldn’t stop replaying their conversation in her head, his harsh words echoing painfully in her mind. I simply have no interest in wasting my time with someone like you.
She hadn’t known it was possible to feel this hurt, this rejected. For the first time, she found herself dreading the start of each day, dreading the possibility of seeing Severus in the halls. The spark of happiness that usually came with her work had dimmed, replaced by a hollow sadness that seemed to follow her everywhere she went.
Even her students noticed the change in her demeanor, though they were too polite to mention it. She tried to hide her feelings, tried to put on a brave face, but it was difficult. Every time she passed Severus in the corridors, her heart ached with the memory of his words, and every time Lockhart made his usual visits to the greenhouse, she felt a wave of nausea rise in her throat.
It didn’t take long for Minerva McGonagall to notice.
One afternoon, as Y/N was tending to a bed of mandrakes, Minerva appeared at the door of the greenhouse, her sharp eyes studying Y/N with a knowing look.
"Y/N," she said softly, stepping into the room. "May I have a word?"
Y/N looked up, startled, and quickly wiped her hands on her apron. "Of course, Minerva."
Minerva approached her, her expression softening as she saw the sadness in Y/N’s eyes. "You’ve been rather quiet lately, my dear. Is everything all right?"
Y/N forced a smile, though it didn’t reach her eyes. "I’m fine, just… busy."
Minerva didn’t seem convinced. She took a seat on one of the nearby benches, folding her hands in her lap as she spoke. "You’ve been avoiding the staffroom, and I can’t help but notice that you haven’t been your usual self. Is there something going on? Does it have to do with Severus?"
The mention of his name sent a sharp pang through Y/N’s chest, and she looked away, her hands trembling slightly as she fussed with the dirt on her fingertips.
"I… I don’t know," she admitted quietly. "I thought we were friends, but lately… I think I’ve upset him. He won’t talk to me anymore."
Minerva’s brow furrowed, concern flashing across her features. "I see. Severus can be… difficult, at times. But I know he holds you in high regard. It’s unlike him to act this way without reason."
Y/N let out a soft sigh, her voice tinged with sadness. "I don’t know what I did wrong. He said I was wasting his time, that he didn’t want to deal with me anymore. And now… now he won’t even look at me."
Minerva’s eyes softened, and she reached out to place a comforting hand on Y/N’s arm. "I don’t believe that’s true, my dear. Severus may not always show it, but he cares deeply for the people in his life. Whatever has caused this rift between you, I don’t believe it’s something you’ve done."
Y/N shook her head, her throat tightening with the weight of her emotions. "But he’s so angry with me. He thinks… he thinks I like Lockhart."
At the mention of Lockhart’s name, Minerva’s expression shifted into something closer to exasperation. "Lockhart? Merlin, that man has been more of a nuisance than I expected. But Severus should know better than to assume that you have any interest in him. He’s clearly projecting his own insecurities onto you."
Y/N blinked, surprised by Minerva’s words. "You think… you think Severus is jealous?"
Minerva smiled faintly, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "I do, Y/N. It’s quite obvious to those of us who know him well. Severus may not be the most forthcoming when it comes to his feelings, but it’s clear that he has feelings for you. He’s just too proud—and too afraid—to admit it."
Y/N’s heart skipped a beat at Minerva’s words. Could it be true? Could Severus’s coldness and bitterness be a result of jealousy?
Minerva gave her a knowing look, standing up from the bench. "I suggest you talk to him, Y/N. Really talk to him. He may not make it easy, but I think you’ll find that he cares more than he lets on."
Severus paced his chambers, his mind a storm of conflicting emotions. He had hurt her—he knew that much. The look in her eyes when he had spoken those cruel words haunted him, and yet, he couldn’t stop the bitterness that had fueled his anger.
It was easier this way, he told himself. Easier to push her away before she had the chance to reject him. Easier to convince himself that she wanted someone else—someone like Lockhart—than to face the truth of his own feelings.
But the truth was becoming harder and harder to ignore.
There was a knock at the door, and Severus’s heart leapt into his throat when he saw Y/N standing there, her eyes red-rimmed but determined.
"Severus," she said, her voice soft but steady. "We need to talk."
He turned away from her, trying to compose himself, but the sight of her standing there, vulnerable and hurt, made his resolve crumble.
"Y/N, I—" He paused, his throat tightening with guilt. "I’m sorry."
She stepped inside, closing the door behind her. "I don’t understand, Severus. Why are you pushing me away? Why are you so angry with me?"
Severus closed his eyes, exhaling slowly. He couldn’t keep lying to her—not anymore.
"I’m not angry with you," he said finally, his voice low. "I’m angry with myself."
Y/N frowned, stepping closer. "What does that mean?"
Severus hesitated, his fingers curling into fists at his sides. He hated this—hated being vulnerable, hated exposing the raw, aching feelings that he had spent so long trying to bury. But he owed her the truth.
"I saw the way Lockhart was… pursuing you," Severus began, his voice tight. "And I thought… I thought you were enjoying it. That you wanted his attention. It hurt, Y/N. It hurt to think that you could fall for someone like him when…" He trailed off, unable to finish the sentence.
Y/N’s eyes softened with understanding. "When what, Severus?"
He met her gaze, his dark eyes filled with something raw and unspoken. "When I’ve been in love with you for years."
The words hung in the air between them, heavy and vulnerable. Y/N’s breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding in her chest.
"I never wanted his attention, Severus," she said softly, her voice trembling. "I never wanted anyone’s attention but yours."
Severus stared at her, stunned by her words. For a moment, he couldn’t speak, couldn’t move. And then, slowly, he closed the distance between them, his hand trembling slightly as he reached out to cup her cheek.
"I’m sorry," he whispered again, his voice thick with emotion. "I’m sorry for pushing you away. I’m sorry for hurting you."
Y/N smiled through her tears, leaning into his touch. "I forgive you, Severus."
And for the first time in what felt like forever, Severus allowed himself to hope.

If Snape had a daughter, what would she look like?
For me it would be something like that. She would probably have the opposite personality of her father. More energetic, more cheerful and more mischievous. She and Snape argue all the time, but they love each other more than anything?? I haven't come up with a name for her yet, please feel free to give me your name ideas.

Their Daughter Part 6
Tenison was high in the dining room of Grimmuald Place as the Black brothers stared one another down. Regulus knew that part of Sirius's anger was because he thought he had lost his child to his brother, much like when they were young, and their parents favored Regulus over him. But this was Sirius's own fault; Ali had tried even after she had been hurt that Sirius went to Harry first. Sirius could not get over the fact that Ali was close with the Malfoys and had taken to projecting his anger to the only person who would love him more than anything if he tried.
Sirius wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was jealous of Regulus. He always had been, but coming back from the hell he had been trapped in to find that his own daughter had chosen his brother over him hurt more than any torture he had ever faced. Regulus had always been the perfect child who everyone adored. He had gotten fewer beatings as a child than Sirius, had gotten better grades in school, and now was considered a dad to Ali. It was only natural for Sirius to go back to what he did during his school years and focus his attention on the people who showed him attention. Harry was his godchild, but Harry also had no one else, meaning Sirius didn't have to worry about being replaced. Sirius also felt awful for the events that transpired the night of James and Lily's deaths and was trying to make up for it.
"If you just gave her a chance, you may find she is much more like you than you think." Regulus sat at the table again, watching his older brother run his hands through his hair. "She is so headstrong and stubborn that I know it revivals yours. And I cannot express enough how she just wants to be good enough for you to love, much like how you tried for years with Mother."
Sirius sighed in defeat, regrettting the painful things he had put his daughter through. "I do love her. I just…."
"Are shit at showing it. I saw the look in your eyes when Ali called me dad; I know that hurt you. But instead of talking about it, you just lash out at her or me or Remus, making it seem like you really don't care at all. I never tried to fill that role in her life. I was and will always be Uncle Reg, and that is fine. Do I see her as my child and love her like my own? Yes, absolutely. I will do anything for her, and if that fills that role as a father, I will. But I don't want to take that from you. You had so much stolen from you in your life, Sirius: your childhood, your parents, your best friend, 12 years of your life. The last thing I want to do is take more away, but I cannot and will not put you above her. She deserves so much in this world, and you should help her get it. We both should. But the question remains: will you put aside your 'every Slytherin is a Death Eater' mindset to do so? Because people have changed and we are close to the Malfoys, Notts, Parkinson's, and the Zabini's. They are not the same people anymore. Things have changed in the war; sides have changed. But you haven't. Ali is loyal to a fault and is a great judge of character; she won't betray the Order, nor will the others. Just give people a chance, Sirius."
"I did give people a chance, and it…..it got my best friend and his wife killed. We trusted Peter. I trusted Peter enough to have James make him the secret Keeper. It got them killed, and he was our friend. How am I supposed to trust that Lucius Malfoy has the Order's best interest at heart when my own friend of 9 years didn't?" Sirius started pacing before his brother. His head is cloudy in memories, tears blurring his eyes as his best friend's dead body flashed in front of him. "I know that I'm shit at showing Ali I love her, and part of it is because I'm scared to get close only to lose her again to someone like Lucius Malfoy. I owe it to James to look after Harry, but that doesn't mean I don't love him like my own because I do. But I love Ali just as much, and I know she has you, Remus, and even Snivillious to love her. And I want to try to improve things with her; I just don't know how. How do I fix what I've done, Regulus?"
Regulus caught the double meaning to his brother's question, "You can't. Sirius, you can't fix what happened to James and Lily. You can't fix how you've treated Ali so far."
Sirius felt his heart crack at his brother's words. He had hoped to get Ali back, but it seemed he had gone too far. He started for the stairs when Regulus continued.
"But that doesn't mean you can't fix it from now on. You can't change the past and bring James back, but you can make them proud by loving and protecting Ali and Harry. I mean, yeah, they don't get along now, but I think part of that is because he has seen and heard how you and James treated outsiders. I know they used to play together as babies, not that they would remember it, but Remus told me. Tell how close they were till everything happened, and bring them back together. Stop being afraid of losing Ali to someone when all everyone wants to do is love her and keep her safe. And maybe you don't trust Lucius or the others right now, but I trust them more than Dumbledore most of the time. And you should talk to Moody about the help Lucius has given the Order even if he refuses to say he has aligned himself with us." Regulus held his brother's shoulder, "Give them a chance. Don't let the other kids make remarks about Ali and her friends. Talk to her. I wouldn't start trying to act like her father, but maybe a friend? Or a really distant uncle. You'll figure it out, Sirius; you're smarter than you give yourself credit for."
Sirius followed his brother up the stairs, going to bed with hope, lighting a flame in his heart for the first time in years.
Days following the talk between Regulus and Sirius, Ali noticed that the golden trio had become slightly nicer to her. She does not make as many comments about her or her friends. She had no idea what was happening but wasn't going to complain. Regulus had come to her that morning telling her that he thought it a better idea if Blaise came to their house instead of her going over there. He believed it would show that the Slytherins were not as bad as all the others thought.
At first, Ali was hesitant about the idea. Still, after being reassured that Remus would be home as well as Regulus, Ali agreed. The thought of Blaise being at her house surrounded by her tormentors made her sick to her stomach. She wanted nothing more than to run away for a few days, but that ship had sailed, and it was only hours before Blaise arrived when Regulus called for 'those who live in this house meeting.' By the time Ali had gotten dressed and cleaned her room, everyone was already in the kitchen since it seemed to be the usual gathering place for the group. She straightened her sweater and did a quick glance down to make sure her outfit was still okay. It was slightly chilly in the house, so she had gone with a Bulgarian Quidditch sweater that was mainly red with black details and a pair of cropped black leggings with matching fuzzy socks. She and Blaise had already decided to stay for most of the day and then go and get dinner somewhere in Diagon Ally so she could change later. Remus and Regulus walked at the same time as Sirius and Harry.
"I'm assuming everyone is confused about why this meeting was called," Remus started. "There seems to be an assumption that Slyertians and those associated with them are all Death Eaters or traitors."
Scowls had overtaken most of the younger one's faces in the room, as well as Sirius's. Ali looked at her uncle, trying to figure out where this was going. She knew the reason was to inform everyone that Blaise would be here for a few days, but there was something else going on; she could feel it.
"After speaking with Dumbledore and getting his permission, not that I technically need the permission as it is my house, but nevertheless. A few individuals will be coming to stay here for the upcoming days, and there will be a couple of visitors as well." Regulus's eye caught Ali's, and gave her a wink just as the sound of footsteps entered the foyer. Ali was too short to see over everyone's heads to see who was there, but from the looks on a couple faces, including the elder Weasley, it was someone they were not fond of.
A flash of white hair caught Ali's eye as the group entered the kitchen. Her mouth dropped in shock as she took in her uncle Severus, leading the Malfoys, Blaise, and Theo towards Regulus and Remus. Cissa shot her a wink while Draco eyed Harry and Sirius up and down; Blaise kept his eyes locked on Ali, and Theo thoroughly enjoyed the shocked looks from the Weasleys.
"Sorry, we're late. Draco took too long in the mirror this morning," Severus said. Draco glared at his Godfather before continuing on with his glare at Potter.
"Well, allow me to introduce everyone. This is Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy, which I'm sure almost all of you know. This is Blaise, Theodore, and Draco. Narcissa and Lucius will be in and out for the next bit trying to get caught up on Order business while the latter three will be staying here for a bit." Remus shook Lucius's hand before joining Dora beside Ali, who was bouncing on her toes, overly excited at the fact that it was going to be back to normal in the next couple of days.
"You can't be serious. They are staying here?" Sirius exclaimed, running his hand down his face before glaring at Lucius. "I still remember what you did, Malfoy."
"I don't often agree with Sirius, but Dumbledore said this was alright?" Arthur asked. Ali knew that the Malfoys hadn't been the kindest to the Weasleys in the past, and she felt sorry for them in that aspect, but Lucius was not the same man as he was during her first year. And Narcissa wouldn't hurt a flea.
Remus stepped forward again, "He did. Narcissa and Lucius will be helping with some scooting missions that are coming up since they know that area of town better and are considering joining the Order. The three brats are mainly for Ali, though."
"Did you miss us short stack?" Theo opened his arms for Ali, who jumped straight into them. Theo gave her a twirl before pulling on her braid. She barely had time to catch her breath before Draco had her spinning again and tickling her sides, making her squeal.
"Of course I missed you! What kind of question is that?!" Ali giggled before hugging Blaise despite her uncle Remus glaring at them. Blaise took her hand and gave it a squeeze when they parted before facing the other children in the room. Theo and Draco took the opposite sides of Ali, showing a united front against the ones who had been horrible towards her.
Ali was ecstatic that they were going to be in the house more. Maybe her summer wouldn't end so badly. Sirius was shocked that Dumbledore had cleared this and even more shocked that Lucius would help the Order. He did not trust him and would go on those missions even if he had to go as Padfoot. This was outrageous and downright stupid, allowing death eaters to snoop freely in the Order business. Looking at his daughter, he could see how happy she was to be surrounded by her friends, but he also knew that he would have to keep a closer eye on her than he already was. He had asked the trio to play nice so he had more people watching her. He did trust that she was a Death Eater, and now he was surrounded by them.
"Al, Kreatcher sat up extra beds in your room for the boys. Pansy should be joining later, but she had something come up with her grandfather. Her mother said she would owl when she was on her way." Regulus leveled each of the boys with a look. "You lot know the rules. I don't care if you have fun but clean up after yourselves, and don't be too loud when it gets late. Curfew is at 10pm and no later. If you are leaving the house, go in pairs at least and let one of the adults you know be aware of where you're going. You lot know the food is fair game, and Kretcher has already been instructed to grocery shop more often. The house is also fair game, but be respectful, please."
"Don't worry, Uncle Reg. I'll keep them in line," Draco smirked at the other three before Severus whacked him upside the head.
Ali turned and looked at the younger swarm of redheads and others in the room. She cleared her throat to get the attention on her, which made her take an unconscious step back toward Blaise and Draco. "Everyone, this is Theo, Blaise and Draco. I'm sure most of you know this, but just in case. You are welcome to join our fun, but we get if you don't want to." Ali pulled the boys out of the room after greeting her aunt and uncle. They sat on the living room floor with wizards, chess, and a few other games while a movie played in the background. Kreacher brought out snack trays for them, and the laughter was music to Regulus's ears after all the quiet he'd heard from Ali this summer.
Ali could feel the stares from those around them, most directed at Draco and her. She could see the disbelief every time Draco laughed or made a joke. This was the side of Draco that was rarely seen by others. An hour had passed before a chess match went on between Draco and Ali. Blaise sat to one side of Ali, and Theo was in the middle of her and Draco, watching the death match continue.
"What dare shall I have you do this time, Als" Draco taunted her while he moved his piece. It was an ongoing rule that when she and Draco played wizarding chess, the loser had to do a dare of the winner's choice. It was always a toss-up in who won, as both were incredibly good at the game.
"Don't think too hard; I wouldn't want to overwork that one brain cell of yours." Ali stuck her tongue out at Draco when she stole his knight.
Draco was about to reply when a shadow came over the top of the board. Looking up, there was the eldest two Weasley children and Fleur. Ali could see the hearts in Theo's eyes before she kicked him in the shin. "She's engaged, you idiot."
Bill and Charlie chuckled, "We saw you guys playing games and were curious if we could join you? I have my board and thought we could do a little tournament."
Charlie held up his chess board. The teens all nodded, and with a snap of his fingers, Charlie's board was all set up. Bill took one side of the board before looking at Theo. "You up for a challenge?"
Theo crawled to the opposite side of the small table. Bill made the first move, and the game commenced. Charlie and Fleur took seats around the rest of them and started trash-talking with them, too. Charlie was on Ali's side, whereas Fleur took Dracos. Regulus, Molly, and Narcissa looked around the corner and had smiles spread across their faces at the sight they saw. It wasn't the younger kids trying to get along with the others, but the eldest and Molly knew that her children all looked up to their brothers, so maybe there was hope in this crazy plan after all.

*originally began working on this a few years ago, but i’m picking it back up so here you goo. Ashes and Onyx is a Harry Potter retelling from the pov of Severus and his daughter*
Ashes & Onyx
(the prologue)
———————————
One cold and dreary night in September of 1981, Severus Snape sat in his study reading his books, as he did every night. Nighttime was the only time of day that allowed him to relax due to his tiresome schedule. He was approaching his first year of teaching at his alma mater, Hogwarts, and on top of that, he was now working as a double agent for both Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort.
It had been raining for what seemed like weeks on Spinners End. To Severus, it calmed him to read his book, sip on his fire whisky and watch the raindrops fall slowly down the windowpane. By nine o'clock, Severus had finished his second glass of fire whisky and was 40 pages away from finishing his book titled 'Spellman's Syllabary' when he heard a knock at his door. He groaned as he placed his book on the coffee table next to him and made his way to the front door. Severus opened the door as a gust of cold air hit his face causing him to squint his eyes. As he reopened them, he was met face to face with Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts.
"Whatever it is I must do, surely can wait till morning sir." Severus calmly stated.
It seemed as if Severus was constantly running back and forth from his home to Lord Voldemort's location to catch the headmaster up on whatever the Dark Lord was planning.
"I'm not here to give you a task Severus" The headmaster explained with a sorrowful look on his face. This caught Severus' attention.
"Jane McKinnon is dead" Dumbledore stated simply "Rodolphus and Bellatrix Lestrange killed her 2 weeks ago."
Severus stood in the doorway with a blank expression. He didn't know what to think.
Severus met Jane his 6th year of Hogwarts. Soon after his fallout with his first love, Lily Potter, a snarky brunette Gryffindor girl caught his attention during potions class. Severus was hesitant at first about interacting with this girl due to his last failure with a Gryffindor, but soon found out to his surprise that this girl was much different. Over the course of a few weeks, the two became inseparable. Although Severus knew that Lily Potter would always have a place in his heart, Jane also created a space as well, which resulted in the young Hogwarts students eventually falling in love. Severus shared all of his "firsts" with Jane and he truly believed they would remain together forever. Upon graduating from Hogwarts, Severus became clueless of what his purpose in life truly was. Although Jane hinted towards the two joining Dumbledore's secret organization, the Order of the Phoenix, to combat Lord Voldemort, Severus found himself leaning more towards joining Voldemort and his Death Eaters. It was true and always will be true that Severus loved Jane dearly, but his lack of confidence in himself convinced him that he was undeserving of Jane's love. August 27, 1979 was the last time he looked Jane in the eyes.
"I believe you deserved to know" The old headmaster said with despair in his eyes as he turned to walk away.
Severus watched as Dumbledore disappeared into the rainy night before shutting the door.
The thirty days that followed that dreadful night became increasingly disheartening as the days went by. Severus couldn't understand how not seeing a person for 2 years could make grieving a person even more heart wrenching. He sat in silence most days, staring outside the window as people passed by. He did not feel sadness. He believed that shutting off the feeling of sadness for all those years in his life made it impossible for him to feel that feeling ever again.
He recognized very soon that his theory was completely wrong. On October 31, 1981, Severus remained in his study, waiting for confirmation that the prophecy he worked so hard on making fail actually worked. He closed his eyes as he remembered overhearing the prophecy of the Potter Family's new child. Severus knew what the fate of the family (mostly Lily's fate) would be if the prophecy was foretold. He cringed at the thought.
As the clock stuck 10 o'clock, Severus heard a knock at his door. He closed his eyes as he remembered what happened the last time there was a strange knock at his door. Severus stood up and walked towards the front door, revealing Albus Dumbledore once again behind it. It took Severus 30 seconds to recognize the familiar look on the headmaster's face and 20 more seconds to apparate out of his home and to the location the Potter's once resided. Soon after, everything went black.

Three weeks went by in a flash through Severus' eyes. He spent his days drowning his many sorrows with fire whisky and anything else he could find. If he had the choice, he would have continued that routine for months, but his duties eventually called to begin teaching at Hogwarts like he promised.
Preparing to visit his old school was one of the most challenging duties he experience in awhile. Hogwarts reminded him only of his two lovers who no longer existed on this planet.
That Sunday afternoon, Severus grabbed whatever belongings he needed and groaned as he apparated out of his tiny home on Spinners End to the large castle well recognized by Severus. He thought to himself as he walked onto the castle's grounds of why Dumbledore asked him to visit the school of all days. He crossed his fingers as he walked through the doors that the headmaster would hopefully relieve him of his duty to teach so that he could return to spending every day in sorrow.
As he approached the office that belonged to Headmaster Dumbledore, he heard a familiar voice belonging to an old teacher and friend, Minerva McGonagall.
"Ah," The headmaster began to speak "Severus please come in."
Severus stepped forward and continued to exchange glances between Minerva and Dumbledore.
"How are you doing Severus?" Minerva spoke with a sorrowful voice.
Severus breathed in deeply "I've been better."
The three remained silent for what seemed like ages until Dumbledore spoke once more.
"I've been meaning to give you some space and time to grieve Severus...and I hope I succeeded in that" The headmaster spoke.
Severus closed his eyes as he thought to himself it surely wasn't enough time.
"I have thought through this conversation with you for weeks now Severus and I can't seem to find the right way of going about it." Dumbledore spoke again. "As I said before, my intentions were to allow you to grieve until you are ready, but certain events have caused me to cut that break short."
Dumbledore went silent causing Severus' mind to race. What possibly could have happened now? Severus remained where he was and waited for the headmaster to speak again.
"I was visited a week ago by someone who is familiar to us both. We all thought of how to possibly go about this but of course, there is no right way..." Dumbledore stepped aside, causing Severus' attention to go towards a person walking out of the room in the back of the headmaster's office.
Severus soon realized that the person walking out was Remus Lupin, an old classmate he was not too fond of holding...a child? This caused the situation to become even more confusing in Severus' mind. He examined the child who looked to be about one or two years old in Lupin's arms. He studied the child, taking in every little feature. He started by looking at the tiny, jet black curls on top of her head which matched the color of the child's glossy eyes. As he stared more and more at the fragile little girl, his heart soon sank from his chest. The more he studied the child, the more he saw her: Jane.
"W-what is this?" Severus questioned as he took in an icy cold breath.
"She brought her to me the night before she died Severus." Remus Lupin finally spoke up "You were no longer in the picture and wasn't supposed to know about her...but Jane's fate shifted and she begged me to make sure she would be in your life."
Severus stood frozen as his mind went blank. A child? My child?
"N-no. You have to be mistaken. There is no way that I have a child" Severus stammered.
The three stared at Severus as they knew Severus was only in shock and that he knew what Remus was stating was the truth.
Severus focused his attention back on Dumbledore "Albus...I cannot take care of a child. I can barely take care of myself."
Remus stepped closer and began to speak once again "The child belongs to you Severus. I understand that we have not always been on the best terms, but Jane made me her Godfather...I can help you. It's what Jane wanted."
What Jane wanted. How could he choose to continue to disappoint the woman he loved? The woman who's death he blamed himself for.
"Just hold her for a second Severus." McGonagall spoke up "hold her and see how you feel."
Remus slowly walked in Severus' direction until they were met face to face. Severus hesitated as Remus slowly passed the now sleepy infant. The child came closer and closer to Severus' shaky hands as he quickly found himself holding her in cradle position. His body tensed up at the strange feeling. Severus was never fond of children and typically tried his best to stay away from them as much as possible, making his new teaching position very ironic. The child moved slowly in his arms, finding a comfortable position in his rigid arms.
"She has your eyes Severus." McGonagall spoke again.
A million thoughts raced through Severus' head along with panic. He couldn't be a father. He didn't know how to be father.— then quicker than the million panicking thoughts, Severus experienced a different feeling he could barely recognize— serenity.
The child looked up at him with her beady, onyx colored eyes as he recognized the face. There was no denying that the infant belonged to Severus; they shared the same phenotypic traits, but above all else, she was an exact copy of Jane. Tears welled up in his eyes, causing the thoughts in his head to turn once more. He had a child. He was a father.
———————
3 Years Later. January 10, 1984
Outside the kitchen window on Spinners End, Severus watched as tiny snowflakes hit the ice cold ground in his yard. He continued to stare out the window as he mixed hot oats in a bowl that looked as if it were made for a mouse. If the Severus now was able to go back in time to four years ago to tell himself that he was a father and actually enjoy it, he believed he would have used the killing curse on himself.
He set the bowl on his kitchen table and then proceeded to walk down the hall to a tiny room at the end. As he walked inside, he proceeded to take in the sight of his daughters room. He looked at the walls that were painted a faint shade of pink. As he made his way toward the window, he was cautious to not step on the tiny dolls and and trinkets that were laying on the floor. Severus then pulled back the matching pink curtains on the window, revealing the sunlight.
He then made this way toward the tiny bed in the corner, slowly pulling back the duvet.
He bent down and touched the soft skin on his daughters arms "Calliope" He whispered to not startle his now groggy toddler.
Calliope. The child's name was revealed to him when he first met her on that Fall day 3 years ago. The second he heard it, the tiniest smile appeared on Severus' face. During Jane's younger years at Hogwarts, she spent most of her time reading books. Jane spent many of her years with Severus studying "Greek mythology" and reading out of poetry books to him while he studied. It only made sense that she named her daughter after the Greek goddess of eloquence and poetry. Calliope's middle name had not been given, which resulted in Severus accomplishing that duty instead. After holding the tiny infant in his arms for over an hour, he finally declared that she would be named Calliope Jane Snape.
Once Calliope was fully awake, she crawled out of bed and followed Severus to the kitchen to begin breakfast. He helped her into her chair and handed her a spoon, signaling for Calliope to begin eating. He took his place in the chair beside her and began to look through the mail that arrived earlier that morning. As he shuffled through the many newsletters and bills, he eventually pulled out a postcard with the words "from Uncle Lupin" on the front.
Remus kept his word when he told Severus three years ago that he would remain in Calliope's life to help out. Severus was not always particularly happy about Lupin's presence due to the rivalry they had in school, but Severus pushed his hatred aside for his daughter's sake. Calliope loved when her Uncle Lupin was around (which was more often than sometimes wanted). He had been at the Snape residence for almost every important milestone. He was around for Calliope's first steps, first words, and many more milestones. Although Lupin's presence was not always wanted, the two never let that affect their excitement and love for the toddler.
The days continued at a normal fashion and Severus believed his life was finally stable. But just as he imagined his past self at the beginning of the week, he could see his future self shaking his head in disappointment.
It was another cold morning on September 13, 1984 when an unexpected knock came from the door. Severus looked up from his newspaper and began to feel deja-vu. He hesitated and for a split second thought about ignoring the knock, as every time an unexpected guest arrives at his doorstep, it's never a good sign. He snapped out of his thoughts and walked swiftly to greet the unknown guest outside. As he opened the door the deja-vu feeling returned as he faced Albus Dumbledore. A confused look spread on his face as he noticed a person was standing next to him...the Hogwarts professor of Divination, Sybill Trelawney.
"Good morning" Severus greeted the two with a confused look remaining on his face.
"Good morning Severus" Albus spoke "may we come in?"
Severus allowed the two into his living area as the three took a seat and sat in silence for a few moments.
"I really do hate to create a trend Severus" the headmaster spoke again causing a sarcastic chuckle to come from Severus "but I'm afraid Professor Trelawney has some dire information for you."
Professor Trelawney took a breathe before looking at Severus "There is another prophecy..." she stated causing worry to spread through Severus' body.
"...which is?" Severus questioned.
"You must get young Calliope somewhere safe tonight Severus. It was not fully clear, but I am led to believe that Bellatrix Lestrange has plans to harm your daughter in revenge tonight."
Severus froze. He thought back to how content he was ten minutes ago, and now it is spoiled.
"I do not understand. Where exactly is 'somewhere safe'?" Severus began.
"Anywhere you can think of Severus. Bellatrix is simple minded. She will come straight to you with the intention that Calliope is here. But you must act fast before she realizes otherwise" Dumbledore added in.
Severus froze once more and thought about every possibility that could occur. He snapped back to reality in a flash and moved swiftly to his daughters bedroom. He grabbed everything in sight that he believed the toddler may need for overnight and then rushed her toward the living room.
"There is a woman that lives in Little Hangleton that has helped us in situations such as these before Severus. If you have no thought of where she could go, I assure you that Calliope could hide there." Albus broke the silence.
Severus stopped in his tracks. He had no family she could go to. He could not leave her with Remus as that was too predictable, but he also did not feel okay with sending his daughter to a stranger's home. He fought with the ideas in his head and eventually came to terms with the realization that this unknown woman was the only option. He answered Albus' suggestion with just a nod.
The news got to Remus quickly. Soon enough, he was on the doorstep on Spinners End with an equal amount of terror. Severus and Remus decided unanimously that they both would stay at the Snape household that night to face Bellatrix due to the fact that they would be much stronger together.
As the evening approached, Severus recognized that it was time to send Calliope into hiding. He zipped up her winter coat and bent down to look her in the eyes.
"You're going to have a sleepover." He informed the four year old as she stared at him blankly.
He stood up and walked her over to the headmaster waiting in the doorway. Severus handed him a bottle with the label 'Sleeping Draught'. Severus kissed his daughters forehead one last time and watched as the old headmaster apparated away with the child.
Three hours felt like forever as Severus and Remus sat in the living room on Spinners End. The slightest sounds that occurred every ten minutes triggered the two men to grab their wands and prepare for battle. Severus eventually began to question the truthfulness of the prophecy that Trelawney had told him earlier that day. The irritation was seen on Remus' face as well. He paced back and forth around the room and waited anxiously. To calm his nerves, he turned on the radio that sat on top of the living room mantel. The two remained in silence as the listened to the speaker on the radio deliver news.
Another hour passed and Severus became even more suspicious about the so-called prophecy. Just as Severus stood up to go retrieve his daughter, the radio began to attract his attention.
"We were just given word that a home in the Little Hangleton area was under attack. We are made to believe the people behind this attack are former Death Eaters. We are waiting on information about any casualties" the radio voice spoke.
For the first time all day, Severus spent no time thinking. He quickly grabbed his wand and apparated to the location Dumbledore told him his daughter would be.
As his surroundings became visible again, Severus found himself standing outside of a small house on a dead end street. His heart dropped to his stomach and he began to panic as he noticed a multitude of people standing outside of the tiny house, one of the people being Albus Dumbledore. Severus swallowed the lump in his throat and sprinted towards the house, not stopping for anywhere. As he stepped foot inside, he noticed a woman that looked to be in her mid-fifties lying on the floor. This caused him to panic even more. He looked around for any clue of where his daughter might be, eventually choosing to run up the stairs. He ran for the only room in the hallway with a wide open door, quickly wishing he hadn't done that. It took all of his strength to not drop to the floor at the sight of his daughter. If it hadn't been for the small pool of blood forming on her stomach, it looked as if Calliope was peacefully sleeping. He rushed to the bed and began to pull her out from under the quilt. He had no more strength as he dropped to his knees, holding the four year old in his arms. Tears streamed down his eyes as he choked on his breath, not knowing what to do. He looked up as he saw Albus walking into the room.
"Y-YOU LIED" Severus yelled at the headmaster "I TRUSTED YOUR PROMISES TWICE A-AND YOU HAVE NOT KEPT ONE" tears still flowing down his now scalding hot cheeks.
He rocked back and forth as he looked at his daughter who's breaths barely existed.
He had only known the child for three years, and yet she had become the only important thing in his life. Severus pulled out his wand as he declared to himself that he would not lose young Calliope without trying everything he had to save her. He examined where she was wounded and pointed his wand to the laceration on her abdomen.
"Vulnera Sanentur" He whispered with a shaky voice "Vulnera Sanentur"
He repeated the incantation over and over as he held onto Calliope's almost lifeless body. The tears still streaming from his eyes almost blinded him enough to where he did not realize that Calliope's breathing started to become stronger and stronger.
"Severus..." Remus, who was now standing in the room as well, spoke "don't stop. I think it's working."
"Vulnera Sanentur. Vulnera Sanentur. Vulnera Sanentur..." Severus repeated over and over.
Several minutes went by and Severus slowly stopped whispering the incantation. He stared as the open wounds slowly disappeared from Calliope's body. He small smile of relief quickly flashed onto Severus' face as he felt her heartbeat speed up and watched her skin return to a normal color.
His breath hitched once more as he pulled the young girl into his chest and rocked back and forth whispering to himself "Thank you. Thank you..."

Snape going protective dad mode on a peer who was blaming his daughter for being ‘distracting’.
Severus Snape & Zhuri Snape
“Theres no need to make a big deal about it.”
Severus stopped turning to look at his daughter. Her dark eyes pleading not to make a scene of the situation.
“Remind me what professor Harlem said to you about your out of school clothing.” He said.
Zhuri looked away not because she was embarrassed but for the fact she let the man practically shame her for the body she grew into over the summer. She was 15 a developing young woman that quickly grew into her curves over the summer.
“That I was distracting, that what i was wearing was inappropriate..” she spoke annoyed her eyes looking away from her father.
“And what are you wearing.” His voice was softened. What Harlem said bothered the girl it made him crawl in his skin knowing a grown Man was letting his eyes wonder on her. His daughter a child.
“A long sleeve thats slightly tighter than most and some low rises.” She answered, The shirt only came up a little showing the width of two finger together but nothing more the jeans where you normal low rises with rhinestone pockets. “Thats why i don’t understand what his problem is im wearing what I normally would on a day off around here for christ sake!” She exclaimed, her hands hitting here sides in frustration.
“Exactly there is nothing wrong with what you’re wearing and him telling you that you’re distracting, disgust me. It shouldn’t be a bother to him for he is a grown man.” Severus spoke to his daughter, she new what he meant the new professor had been gazing at her in an inappropriate matter and telling her that it was her fault.
“I just don’t want to make a big deal out of it hes just some creep that needs to be removed from the school.” Zhuri said her voice filled with irritation, not because of her father wanting to go talk to the man but for the fact she let it happen her self. How the middle aged man blamed her for his inappropriate behavior.
“Exactly, and he will be. Now return to your dormitory i will deal with it from here.” He said reassuring Zhuri. She nodded turning around to walk back down ti the dungeon back to Slytherin dormitory. It hurt him watching how she crossed her arms around her body in a shameful matter hiding herself, as if she had to be ashamed of something she has no control over.
“Professor Harlem a word.” Severus voice spoke darkly as he entered the room.
A little drabble hope you like it it bit on the more sensitive topics lmk if you want more Zhuri!

So, enjoy our beloved dungeon bat in this especially funny situation. 🖤🥹 Henriette begged me to share her drawing with my “Snape-Friends”. 🖤

Ok but perhaps you can please write something about severus having a to take his chubby little one year old daughter to work with him because mom was tired that day? Like just fluff
Title: Hope Eleanor Snape
Warning: Pure fluff
Words Count: 2800+
Masterlist
---
Severus Snape had never imagined himself the type of man to carry a baby through the halls of Hogwarts. Certainly not on a weekday morning, with a class full of inattentive students awaiting his arrival in the dungeons. But here he was, doing just that, the weight of his one-year-old daughter settled comfortably on his hip as her small hand tangled in the collar of his robes.
Hope Eleanor Snape was everything Severus never thought he deserved—soft where he was sharp, light where he was dark. Her chubby cheeks, flushed from a restless night, were pink against the stark black of his robes, and her eyes, a deep, intense black like his own, gazed up at him with an innocent curiosity.
It had been one of those mornings. Y/n, his wife, had been up with Hope for most of the night, soothing the little girl who had stubbornly refused sleep. When the morning sun peeked through the window, Y/n had barely stirred, her exhaustion evident in the deep circles beneath her eyes. Severus had kissed her forehead gently and told her to rest, knowing full well he would have to bring Hope with him to class.
As he strode through the corridors, Hope seemed fascinated by everything around her. The echo of his boots on the stone floors, the soft flutters of a tapestry as they passed, even the flickering of torchlight caught her attention. She babbled, her tiny voice filling the silence of the usually foreboding dungeons, and Severus found himself listening, a faint smile playing on his lips despite himself.
The doors to his classroom loomed ahead, and Severus sighed quietly, preparing himself for what he knew would be an unusual lesson. He adjusted Hope in his arms as she tried to reach for a lock of his hair, her small fingers grasping at the air with determination.
"Let’s see how you handle this, little one," Severus murmured under his breath. He could already predict the scene that awaited him: distracted students, whispers, stares. Not that he cared for their opinions, of course. His concern was that Hope, with her boundless curiosity and penchant for grabbing things she shouldn’t, might cause a disruption he’d struggle to manage.
Pushing open the door with a sharp flick of his wrist, Severus entered the classroom.
It took precisely three seconds for the room to descend into absolute silence. The students, who had been murmuring among themselves as they set up their cauldrons and ingredients, froze in unison, their eyes wide and disbelieving as they took in the sight before them.
There stood their typically dour, imposing Potions Master, dressed in his usual billowing black robes, holding a small, chubby child who was currently sucking on two of her fingers and blinking curiously at the room.
Severus didn’t need to speak to command their attention; the sheer absurdity of the moment had done that for him.
Hope, oblivious to the stunned looks from the students, wriggled slightly in his arms, tugging insistently at his robes as if trying to gain his attention. She was used to being the center of attention, after all—especially from her mother, who doted on her endlessly. And even though Hope loved his daughter with a fierce, protective intensity, he wasn’t as effusive with his affections as Y/n was. It was just his nature, but Hope didn’t seem to mind.
The baby let out a soft coo, her voice high-pitched and cheerful, and Severus felt the eyes of the entire classroom zero in on her. He could practically hear their hearts melting. He sighed.
"As you can see," Severus said in his usual low, silken tone, "My daughter will be joining us today. Your focus, however, will remain on your potions. I will not tolerate any distractions." He let his gaze sweep across the room, daring anyone to challenge him.
But it was a hopeless demand.
The students’ attention was already fixed on Hope, and there was little he could do to break the spell she seemed to cast. Several girls in the front row were exchanging looks of utter adoration, their eyes wide as they took in Hope round cheeks, the way her tiny fists grasped at her father’s robes, her dark curls tousled in an adorably messy way.
"She’s so cute," someone whispered, followed by a chorus of murmurs.
Severus raised an eyebrow, his lips tightening, though he couldn’t bring himself to truly reprimand them. Eleanor was, in fact, a spitting image of her mother, save for the eyes. Those deep, fathomless black eyes that mirrored his own made her seem more serious than any baby had a right to be. But her chubby face, her sweet, infectious smile—those were all Y/n. It was as if the world had taken Y/n’s softness and poured it into Eleanor, creating this little bundle of joy who had quickly become the center of Severus’s universe, even if he was reluctant to admit it openly.
He walked to his desk, settling Hope into a conjured playpen near his chair. She babbled happily as she was placed among her toys—plush creatures that Severus had charmed to move on their own, a small wooden wand Y/n had given her to wave around harmlessly, and her favorite—a stuffed dragon with large, flapping wings.
"Now," Severus said, his voice sharp as ever, "today’s lesson is on the brewing of Draught of Peace. You will follow the instructions precisely, or you will face the consequences."
But even as he spoke, he could feel the collective attention of the students drifting back to Hope. It was impossible not to be captivated by her. She sat happily in her playpen, one pudgy hand holding the dragon’s tail while her other hand reached for her mouth, gnawing on her fingers as she gurgled contentedly.
Severus began to pace the classroom, his usual routine of observing students’ progress, though today his sharp remarks were fewer. He found himself glancing over at Hope more often than he would have liked, just to ensure she was content. She, in turn, occasionally caught his eye and gave him a bright, gummy smile, causing an unexpected warmth to flood his chest.
She really did look so much like Y/n.
As the students measured out their ingredients and stirred their cauldrons, Severus heard more than a few muffled giggles from the back of the room. He turned just in time to see Hope standing up in her playpen, holding onto the side for support as she bounced on her chubby little legs. She was clearly proud of herself, her cheeks flushed with excitement.
"Sit down, Miss Snape," he murmured, almost to himself, and with a wave of his hand, the playpen gently lowered her back onto her bottom. Hope blinked, momentarily confused, before resuming her exploration of the toys.
The class went on, but the students were hopelessly distracted. Severus caught Hermione Granger looking over at Hope at least three times, her hands hovering uncertainly over her cauldron. Even Draco Malfoy, usually so focused on his potion work, had his attention split between stirring his potion and watching Hope as she waved her little wand in the air, making nonsensical motions.
Finally, one student—a Slytherin girl with wide eyes and a nervous smile—raised her hand hesitantly. Severus nodded toward her.
"Professor, uhm, sir, is she always this—um—energetic?" the girl asked, glancing at Hope as she attempted to chew on the stuffed dragon’s wing.
Severus arched an eyebrow, casting a glance at his daughter, who was now gnawing intently on the plush toy, her face scrunched in concentration. She paused only to look up at her father and giggle softly, a sweet, bubbly sound that filled the room.
"She is… persistent," Severus said at last, his voice a touch softer than usual. It was the truth. Hope, much like her mother, had an unyielding spirit. Once she set her mind to something—whether it was staying awake through the night or trying to stand in her playpen—she did it with all the determination a one-year-old could muster.
The students exchanged looks, their smiles widening. Severus knew he had lost their attention completely by this point. And yet, as he glanced at his daughter, now thoroughly entertained by her toys, he found he didn’t mind nearly as much as he thought he would.
The lesson continued, albeit with more focus on Hope than on the potions. Severus moved between the desks, making the necessary corrections to students’ work, though his mind was never far from the playpen by his desk. Every now and then, Hope would let out a delighted squeal, drawing the eyes of every student in the room.
By the end of the lesson, as the students began packing up their materials, Severus returned to his desk. Hope was beginning to tire, her little head bobbing slightly as she fought off sleep. Her dark lashes fluttered as she rubbed at her eyes with a chubby fist, and Severus could see that she was losing the battle.
He bent down, lifting her from the playpen and cradling her against his chest. Hope sighed softly, her thumb finding its way into her mouth as she nestled into the warmth of his robes.
The classroom had fallen silent again, the students watching with wide eyes as their stern, no-nonsense professor gently rocked his daughter in his arms. It was a sight none of them would forget—a rare glimpse of a different side of Severus Snape, one they hadn’t known existed.
"Class dismissed," Severus said quietly, his voice softer than usual. The students filed out, casting one last look at the sleeping baby in his arms before leaving the dungeon.
As the door clicked shut behind them, Severus looked down at Hope. She was fast asleep now, her small hand clutching the front of his robes, her breathing slow and even. He stroked her hair gently, his heart swelling with an unfamiliar warmth.
"You’re too much like your mother," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "And that’s a good thing."
For a moment, standing there in the quiet of the empty classroom, Severus allowed himself to smile. It was a small, fleeting smile, but it was real. And in that moment, with his daughter safe and warm in his arms, the world seemed just a little bit brighter.
With a practiced hand, Severus gathered the lesson plans and potion ingredients, all the while cradling Hope effortlessly in his other arm. It was a strange sensation—this constant awareness of her weight against him, the softness of her small form in his embrace. He hadn’t planned on being a father, hadn’t imagined this life for himself, yet here he was, completely captivated by the little girl who had somehow become the center of his universe.
Gently, he draped his black cloak over her, tucking it around her tiny body to shield her from the chill of the dungeon air. The familiar sweep of his robes trailed behind him as he strode out of the classroom, his footsteps echoing through the empty corridors. The journey back to his quarters was a quiet one, with only the soft rustling of Hope’s breathing to break the silence.
As Severus neared the entrance to their private quarters, he murmured the password under his breath, and the door swung open with a soft creak. The warmth of the room hit him immediately, a sharp contrast to the cool dungeons. The hearth in the corner flickered with a soft, golden glow, and the scent of herbs—Y/n’s doing, no doubt—permeated the space, creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
Y/n was curled up in one of the armchairs near the fireplace, a book in her lap, though she looked as if she’d only just woken up from a long-needed nap. Her hair was tousled, and she wore a loose sweater that made her look even softer and more serene than usual. As the door closed behind him, she looked up, her eyes immediately softening as she saw Severus standing there with Hope in his arms.
A small smile spread across her face, the kind of smile that made his heart stumble in his chest, though he’d never admit it. "There you are," she said quietly, her voice still tinged with the remnants of sleep. "How did it go?"
Severus crossed the room, moving toward the fireplace as Hope stirred slightly, her little head nuzzling further into his robes. He adjusted his hold on her, cradling her with the kind of tenderness that still surprised him, even now. He lowered himself into the chair opposite Y/n, careful not to jostle Hope too much.
“It was… interesting,” Severus replied, his tone dry, though the corners of his lips quirked ever so slightly.
Y/n raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “Interesting, hmm? Do tell.”
Severus leaned back in the chair, one hand still resting protectively on Hope’s back as she dozed. “It seems our daughter has a talent for distracting an entire classroom full of students,” he said, his voice laced with a rare trace of amusement. “No matter how much I tried to focus them on their potions, they were more interested in her antics.”
Y/n let out a soft laugh, her eyes twinkling with warmth. “Well, can you blame them? She’s impossible to ignore.” She set her book aside and rose from her chair, moving over to sit on the armrest of Severus’s chair. She gently brushed a lock of dark hair away from Hope’s forehead, her fingers soft and tender as they moved over her daughter's sleeping face. “She’s always been a bit of a scene-stealer.”
Severus glanced down at Hope, watching the steady rise and fall of her tiny chest. He couldn’t argue with that. Hope had a way of drawing attention without even trying, her innocence and joy a sharp contrast to the darker, more complicated world around her.
"She’s just like you,” Severus said quietly, his voice carrying a depth of emotion that he rarely allowed to surface. “She has your light."
Y/n tilted her head, her gaze softening even more as she looked at him. "And she has your strength," she murmured. "Those eyes of hers—they’re yours, Sev. And that determination? That’s all you."
For a long moment, they sat there in the quiet warmth of the room, the fire crackling softly in the background, casting a golden glow over the scene. Y/n’s hand rested on Severus’s shoulder, her touch grounding him, while Hope’s small form was tucked safely against his chest, her warmth seeping into his very bones.
Severus’s gaze drifted to Y/n, taking in the gentle curve of her smile, the way her eyes crinkled at the corners when she looked at him. He had never imagined himself in this kind of life—never imagined that he could feel this kind of peace, this kind of contentment. But somehow, against all odds, it had found him. She had found him.
After a moment, Y/n stood and moved back to her chair, but her eyes lingered on the scene in front of her—Severus Snape, the man who had once been so distant and untouchable, cradling their daughter with all the tenderness in the world. The sight filled her with a quiet sense of joy, one that she had never quite expected, but was grateful for every day.
“So,” she said softly, settling back into her chair, “do you think you’ll bring her to class again?”
Severus raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching in something that resembled a smirk. “Perhaps,” he said. “But I’d prefer not to lose control of my classroom every time she decides to babble at them.”
Y/n chuckled, the sound light and musical. “I’m sure they were all enchanted by her. You know she has that effect on people.”
Severus hummed in agreement, his fingers absently tracing small circles on Hope’s back as she shifted slightly in his arms, her tiny hand clutching at his robe. “She certainly does,” he admitted quietly.
For a while, they sat in comfortable silence, the fire crackling softly and casting flickering shadows across the room. Hope remained blissfully unaware of the world around her, tucked securely in her father’s embrace, her tiny breaths filling the space with a sense of peace.
Y/n’s gaze softened as she watched them, her heart swelling with love for the two people who had become her entire world. She reached over, her fingers brushing against Severus’s hand. “You’re a good father, you know,” she whispered, her voice filled with quiet sincerity.
Severus didn’t respond immediately, his eyes focused on the sleeping form of his daughter. But after a moment, he squeezed Y/n’s hand gently, his voice barely above a whisper as he replied, “Only because of you.”
And in that moment, as the fire crackled softly in the hearth and the world outside seemed so far away, Severus Snape allowed himself to believe that perhaps, just perhaps, he was deserving of the happiness he had found. Because here, in this quiet corner of Hogwarts, with his wife beside him and his daughter safe in his arms, he had everything he had ever wanted but never thought he could have.

𝕴 𝖒𝖊𝖙 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 Rose and Grace in the Charms classroom exactly when I said I was going to. We worked on disarming a bit more. By the end of the lesson, they had both disarmed me and I was quite proud of them.
With our extra ten minutes, we worked on some other second-year spells and then called it quits since it was getting close to their curfew. With my two hours of curfew left, I visited Professor Snape's office.
He was grading tests in a bad temper and his expression didn't soften as I came in.
"What's wrong?" I asked as he threw another test onto the chair next to him.
"You haven't come to see me in three days." He said.
I pursed my lips to keep from smiling. "Sorry." I said, putting my arms across his shoulders and put my head on the top of his head, looking at the tests from behind. "Do you feel better now?"
"No." He said, sounding disgruntled. "I think-" He threw the rest of the tests onto the desk, "-you should come around front and sit on my lap."
I giggled and did just as he asked and pressed my lips to his. "You realize I'm a bit big for this?" I pointed out.
"No." He said stubbornly, kissing me. "You're only- to big- for sitting on- your dad's lap- not mine." He said between kisses.
I giggled again, kissing his cheek. "I suppose you're-" he cut off my words and then I managed to say "-right about that."
"Your hand looks better." He said when I finally stood up. I looked down at it. The scabs had healed so that they looked more like thin red scratches than scabbed over words.
"It doesn't look as extreme now." I said happily. "Oh," I said, less happily. "Professor Umbridge questioned me. But I didn't drink the tea so I never took the truth serum."
"Yes." he said stiffly, standing up. "She asked me for it and I couldn't refuse it."
"Could've given her a fake bottle." I pointed out.
"That's true, I'll do that next time." Severus said, moving a stack of papers off the desk. "Guess you should make my decisions for me."
"Sorry." I muttered, thinking he was mad. "I wasn't trying to-"
"I know." He interrupted, putting both hands on either side of my face, squishing my cheeks together. I stared up at him, pouting. "Stop pouting damnit." I didn't stop and he groaned. "You make my life so difficult Elizabeth."
"Life's difficult." I said simply and he glared at me, dropping his hands.
"So what are you going to do tonight?" He asked casually, turning his back to me. I looked at him. His black hair was swept perfectly so that I couldn't see his face when I answered.
"What do you want?" I asked softly.
He ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know. I mean, I want you, obviously, but it's getting dangerous."
Then, I cocked my head and smiled, "You know what? I think I just got a great idea."
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
"𝕿𝖍𝖎𝖘." 𝕾𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗𝖚𝖘 𝖌𝖗𝖚𝖓𝖙𝖊𝖉, "Is the stupidest idea you've ever had."
I glared at him, closing Hagrid's cabin door behind him and going over and making sure the windows were sealed and locked and the curtains were placed over them. "Just don't turn on the lights." I said.
"Ouch!" Severus said as I heard him crash into something. "Bloody brilliant advice Elizabeth."
"Umbridge, Harry, Ron, and Hermione will come running." I said, reaching out and taking his hand and pulling him over to where Hagrid's large bed was. "Besides, no one is going to think to find us here."
"Still." Severus said, settling onto the bed next to me.
"Sev, just shut up and kiss me." I said, pressing my lips to his throat and felt his pulse quicken and heard his breathing stop for a second.
"Elizabeth. . ." He moaned. "You're not. . . we're not. . ."
I blushed and pulled away. "No, of course not! We're not married."
He pulled me back down to kiss me. "Just wanted to make sure so I didn't overstep my boundaries."
I laughed softly, curling into his side. "Hey Sev?"
"Yeah?" He asked, running his fingers up and down my arm.
"I love you."
It hung there in the air for a second. The last time I'd said I'd loved him was December of last year, nearly ten months ago. We hadn't even been dating yet. It had kind of slipped out of my mouth.
My heart thudded in my chest, waiting to see if he was going to say anything and I squeezed my eyes shut tightly. Maybe if I fell asleep then in the morning I could just assume that he'd said it back.
But he had changed his demeanor suddenly. His tongue traced my lips and then he kissed me and it was very, very different. A French kiss- something we'd never down before. I could feel his tongue in my mouth, something I actually found rather attractive now that I'd actually done it. I had originally thought it might be repulsive. Now, I hoped we did it every time. My heart beat faster. I also felt very disoriented as he ran his tongue down to my throat and bit me.
"Oh!" I gasped. It wasn't a hard bite- in fact, it was very gentle and my cheeks grew red, knowing what was happening. But I didn't shy away. "Sev!" I gasped in shock.
"I think." He said lightly, running his tongue on my bottom lip. "I forgot to mention that I love you too."
"Something-" I gasped, trying to breathe, "something like that. . ."
He chuckled and rolled back onto his side of the bed, pulling me into him. I laid my head down on his chest.
"You're adorable you know." he murmured sleepily. "I swear I can hear your heart beating."
"Shut up." I muttered, pressing my face into his chest. He had such a unique smell like spices and herbs and the night and the forest all rolled into one. He put an arm around my shoulders, holding me there.
It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
𝕴𝖓 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌, he shook my awake.
"Wazitmazer?" I muttered.
"I don't speak whatever language you just spoke." He said, sounding amused. "But we have to go if you want to make it back up to the castle in time. I thought you were holding Quidditch practice today.
I sat up quickly. "Oh, that's right." I said, stretching. I swung my legs over the bed and slipped my shoes on. "We probably shouldn't go up together if Umbridge is looking." I turned into a cat. Then I sprung from the ground up onto his shoulder.
"Show off." He muttered. I batted him with my paw- claws in. He took me off his shoulder and held me in his arms, petting my head. I purred with content and he chuckled as he strode up the grass. He let me down in front of the Hufflepuff common room and then went down the hallway and nodded to me. I quickly checked the other corridor and then turned back into a human and went up to my dorm to get my Firebolt. (I had replaced my Nimbus with a Firebolt this year so that I was equal to Harry).
By ten o'clock, we were all out on the pitch, clutching our brooms and looking wide awake.
"Alright." I said, looking around at everyone. "Herbert, up in front of the goals, we're going to test you first. Zacharias- you first. We're going to act like the other two Chasers are down at the end of the pitch. Heidi, Malcolm, right now, your acting like the opposing team. Let's see how Zacharias does 1 v 2. Then we'll switch between the Chasers. I turned to our beaters. "James your on Zacharias' side, Maxine, opposite. We won't let out the snitch right now."
"Trying to get out of your job?" Zacharias asked.
"Shut up Zacharias." I snapped. Practice hadn't even started yet and I already regretted choosing him as Chaser. "I can't critique you guys if I'm busy looking for the Snitch. We'll do that later. Alright, everyone up."
Everyone flew up and I tossed the Quaffle up to Zacharias. "Alright! Start! I'm letting out the bludgers in two seconds!"
Zacharias started flying down to where Herbert was at. Heidi and Malcolm flew at him from two different directions- working with past Quidditch tactics. I let out the bludgers and James and Maxine swooped on the bludgers. Maxine hit her bludger towards Zacharias who did a good roll maneuver and then dodged Malcolm. Swerving around Heidi, Zacharias threw the Quaffle. Herbert dived for it and stopped it by an inch.
"Alright!" I shouted. "Heidi, you're up. Zacharias-" I ducked a bludger, "-you're on the team with Malcolm now!"
Herbert tossed the Quaffle to Heidi and she zoomed back to the other side of the pitch where Zacharias had started.
"Start!" I shouted, observing the plays. They each took turns. Herbert saved all but one which was good.
"Alright!" I said. "Good job Herbert! Now then," We flew back to the ground so we could talk. The bludgers would stay in the air. With a wave of my wand, the bludgers were zooming back to the ground and I locked them back in the trunk with the help of James.
"Alright so now, I want to give the Chasers a chance to score. Herbert, James, and I are going to be Chasers as well- on another team. Maxine, I want you to act as Keeper for now, alright? Herbert, James, and I aren't trying to score, only trying to get the Quaffle from Heidi, Malcolm, and Zacharias."
"Hey Elizabeth!" I heard someone shouting across the stadium. I looked over briefly and saw Lee, Fred, and George there. Harry, Hermione, and Ron were following. I gave a brief wave and then turned back to the team.
"Everyone understands what we're doing?" I asked, looking at all of them. They all nodded and then I said, "Alright, Maxine, up in the keepers spot. Heidi, Zacharias, Malcolm, I want you guys to start at the opposite end of the pitch, alright?"
I tossed the Quaffle at Heidi who caught it.
"You're okay playing in front of four Gryffindor Quidditch team members?" Zacharias asked incredulously.
I glared at him. "We shouldn't have to stop training because some people showed up. Would you ask the same question if the Slytherins showed up to watch?"
Zacharias shut his mouth and I beckoned to James and Herbert. Maxine was already flying in front of the hoops. I swooped up with the other two and then we did our flying tactics.
By the afternoon, we felt very pleased with our performance. If only I could change Zacharias' behavior.
"Now." I said in the locker room. "I am going to let you guys know that we aren't going to be able to get much practice in. The first match is Slytherin and Gryffindor and they're going to have the pitch booked nearly every night. Saturday afternoons are going to be our go-to times."
"Do you know who's going to win the match?" Zacharias asked.
I pursed my lips, "Why would I spoil it for you guys?"
"I heard the Gryffindor Keeper is rubbish." Zacharias said.
I pursed my lips together tighter. "Well-"
"Hem, hem!"
We all spun around to see Professor Umbridge there. My lips were so thin now they would've made Professor McGonagall proud.
"Can we help you?" I asked.
"I was just wondering what you thought you were doing Miss Kane, still being Quidditch Captain and all." She asked in her sugar sweet voice.
"I didn't realize it was any of your business." I said stiffly.
Professor Umbridge didn't answer right away and she looked at Heidi, Malcolm, and Herbert. "How did you become Quidditch Captain if there are others here that are older than you?"
I squeezed my fist tightly but answered as calmly as possible. "Cedric appointed me, before he went in to do the third task."
"You, instead of one of the more senior students?"
"We're proud to have her as our Captain." Heidi said suddenly. I blushed.
Professor Umbridge looked at her with that stupid smile on her face, "You're proud to have the daughter of a werewolf as your Quidditch Captain?"
"Yes." Malcolm said unexpectedly in his deep voice. He reminded me of Kingsley except he had a larger head of hair. "And we all like Professor Lupin too. Cedric appointed Elizabeth and she's our Captain now."
Professor Umbridge looked quite taken aback. Herbert, James, Maxine, and Zacharias looked from Professor Umbridge to the three of us. She turned to them. "And you guys?"
They all nodded, even Zacharias who I was sure would've said something. Her eyes flashed dangerously and said, "Detention tonight, Miss Kane."
"For what!" Heidi shouted outrageously.
"I've already warned her about her cheek."
Heidi opened her mouth and I stepped on her foot. "Doesn't matter, don't land yourself in detention too." Heidi closed her mouth. Malcolm and Herbert looked just as angry and when she left the locker room, they all turned to me.
"How does she get away with that?" Malcolm asked outrageously. Maxine shook her head and left the locker room. Herbert soon followed. The rest of us left in here were all in Dumbledore's Army.
"It's cause I told her it was none of business." I said, running a hand through my tangled hair. "Whatever, I'll just have my hand sliced open, but don't you guys land yourselves in detention defending me. It's not worth it. I'll see you guys later."
I shouldered my Firebolt and left the locker room. Fred, George, Lee, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were waiting for me some feet away.
"We saw Professor Umbridge leaving the locker room." Fred said. "What did she want?"
"Oh, that's right." I said. "I never told any of you about why she wouldn't put the Hufflepuff team back together."
I explained the whole thing as we headed back to the castle and by the time I was finished with the locker room story, they all looked very murderous except for maybe Ron.
"That's horrible." Hermione said, her eyes flashing. "I'm so glad Professor Sprout managed to get things pushed through for you."
"I'm not." I said glumly. "The next thing you'll know, she'll get put on probation just like Trelawney and it'll be all my fault."
The next two weeks passed wonderfully. I was still working with Rose and Grace on Wednesday and Friday. We had worked on Impediment jinxes and the Reductor Curse. I'd given Rose and Grace much easier (though hard for them) spells to work on.
The meetings had become very erratic but as Harry pointed out to all of us, this meant a pattern couldn't be found.
Hermione had me help her make contact Galleons, using the Protean Charm on them. It was a tricky charm but by the fourth meeting, we had them done.
Hermione explained what the Galleons did as I handed them out to each member. "You see the numerals around the edge of the coins? On real Galleons that's just a serial number referring to the goblin who cast the coin. On these fake coins, though, the numbers will change to reflect the time and date of the next meeting. The coins will grow hot when the date changes, so if you're carrying them in a pocket you'll be able to feel them. We take one each, and when Harry sets the date of the next meeting he'll change the numbers on his coin, and because Elizabeth and I have put a Protean Charm on them, they'll all change to mimic his."
Silence greeted Hermione's words. She looked around as I came back to stand next to her and said nervously, "Well- I thought it was a good idea. I mean, even if Umbridge asked us to turn out our pockets, there's nothing fishy about carrying a Galleon, is there? But. . . well, if you don't want to use them. . ."
"You two can do Protean Charms?" Terry asked.
"Yes." Hermione said. I just shrugged and grinned.
"But that's. . . that's N.E.W.T. standard, that is." Terry said in a weak voice.
"Oh. Oh. . . well. . . yes, I suppose it is. . ." Hermione said, trying not to sound proud of herself. I laughed.
"How come you guys aren't in Ravenclaw?" Terry demanded. "With brains like yours?"
"Well, the Sorting Hat did seriously consider putting me in Ravenclaw during my Sorting. But it decided on Gryffindor in the end." Hermione said brightly.
"The Sorting Hat was going to put my in Gryffindor, and then Slytherin and then Ravenclaw, and then decided on Hufflepuff." I said with a shrug.
"Does that mean we're using them?" Hermione asked.
"I already handed them out." I pointed out. Everyone laughed.
I'd had about five detentions of the past two weeks. Sometimes, my hand would start bleeding during class and by this time, a majority of the teachers and Madam Pomfrey knew what was written on the back of my hand. It was a wonder Dumbledore hadn't called me to his office.
I kept my head up though. I wasn't going to let Umbridge get to me. I wasn't going to let her stop me. I was in Dumbledore's Army. I was the daughter of a werewolf. I was a friend of a centaur. And she was never going to beat me down.
