Okay okay, now that Iā€™ve had time to actually think about all this and get the evidence and do the math: imma give yā€™all a little ted talk on Buckyā€™s Stockholm Syndrome.
Tumblr media
So Iā€™m gonna preface all this by saying that this probably wasnā€™t an intentional choice from the writers of TFATWS. For two reasons, one cause the show overall had a ton of writing issues beyond just Bucky and was kinda a mess as a whole. And two, to actually make that claim firmly, Iā€™d have to do a rewatch and I donā€™t got time for all that. That said, as a viewer, choosing to look not just TFATWS, but at all of Buckyā€™s appearances from the perspective of him having Stockholm Syndrome, makes a lotttt of sense. It adds a lot of depth to his actions, words, etc. Also even if it wasnā€™t intentional, if you chose to look at it through this lens, the narrative of TFATWS being contradictory towards him can actually be a reflection of whatā€™s going on in his head. The way the show is sometimes sympathetic but other times judgmental can be a reflection of how he sees himself and his inner conflict regarding his past. Again, I donā€™t think the writers intentionally did this, but itā€™s cool way to look at it and repurposes their mistakes.
Now, I just wanna point out that Stockholm syndrome can develop within merely days or weeks, so itā€™s almost kinda silly to think that it wouldnā€™t occur if someone had been held hostage for decades. Itā€™s practically undoubtable that Bucky had Stockholm Syndrome for at least some part of his captivity, but I think heā€™s still dealing with the remnants of it. Zemo was right when he said thereā€™s something still in Bucky and he canā€™t get rid of hydra. But itā€™s not that heā€™s some evil killer at heart, itā€™s that he has leftovers from Stockholm Syndrome.
In a very simplified summary, Stockholm syndrome usually happens and works when captors cause immense pain to the victim and then treat them well afterwards. The captor shows them some form of kindness, flattery, mercy, etc. back to back with harm. Also a big factor in it is the victim becoming dependent on them for basic needs. Seriously, learned helplessness is a huge factor in Stockholm Syndrome. All of it causes a ā€œbondā€ to form. And the more this occurs over time, the stronger it gets because the victim is constantly exposed to them, they become their only source of interactions and relationships. Stockholm syndrome is thought to be a complex trauma response, a defense mechanism for surviving during cruel and terrifying conditions.
Think of it like the victim disassociates the perpetrator from the abuse and then emotionally bonds with them, so that they can lessen their fear and feel a sense of security. Also with Stockholm Syndrome (especially within cults), not only does the victim bond with their captor, but being isolated from the rest of the world causes them to adopt their captorā€™s views and lifestyle. They get completely indoctrinated and start to think the same way as the captor.
Now think about what we see with the Winter Soldier. Even from the very little that we know, itā€™s a cycle of Hydra severely hurting him but then giving him praise, encouragement, validation, etc. All for manipulation ofc, but a broken mind isnā€™t going to see it that way. He would be relishing in the fact that theyā€™re making him feel like heā€™s needed and wanted, like heā€™s done good, etc. Especially since thatā€™s the only affirmations and positive reinforcements he receives, and is otherwise forced to suffer. Those moments of praise and ā€œkindnessā€, are so so so heavily weighted against everything else.
While he was captive, while Hydra had him, he likely thought they cared about him. It probably felt close to love. Now ofc Bucky, as a free man with a clear head, knows it wasnā€™t love or anything at all except being viewed as a weapon. But I bet thereā€™s still a part of him that desires that again, even if he knows it was fake, especially in the wake of becoming lonely and left with his own negative thoughts. Because like I said before, the affirmations were fucking heavy weighted. During those 70 years just the slightest bit of praise or mercy probably felt like the worldā€™s greatest high. Especially when it was given in the midst of pain.
These manipulative affirmations also result in the victim justifying their abuse. This happens in a lot of abusive situations but especially in Stockholm Syndrome. Think about the scene where Pierce is praising the winter soldier so he can convince him to do what heā€™s told. What immediately follows? He slaps him. Then he electrocutes him. But the winter soldier doesnā€™t resist either, doesnā€™t complain, etc. He takes both, which is definitely a conditioned response, but itā€™s also likely due to the thoughts of ā€œIā€™m disappointing them, I deserve this punishment for not behaving.ā€ And to play devils advocate, letā€™s say he didnā€™t feel as if he deserved it. Even so, without speculating his thoughts, his reactions to the abuse and the fact that heā€™s been conditioned to deal with that at all, are still signs of Stockholm Syndrome. Because the captorā€™s behavior has become normalized.
Also he very well was dependent on them for his every single need. For food, water, shelter, hygiene, human interaction, and probably things he didnā€™t need but was manipulated into believing were necessities. And that, especially with the learned helplessness and with him likely being in constant survival mode, reinforces that feeling of dependence. The feeling that he needs them. The feeling that theyā€™re Hydra isnā€™t so bad because they take care of him. The dependence also circles back into kindness thing. Providing for him could easily be seen as small acts of kindness, further making him feel like Hydra cares about him.
Another huge huge huge part of Stockholm Syndrome is that the victim shows resistance and anger towards those trying to help them or that try to oppose the captor. Look at how the Winter Soldier reacts to Steve, various times throughout the movie. With almost everyone else, heā€™s mostly objective, just fighting anyone who stands in the way of Hydra. Heā€™s brainwashed but heā€™s not stupid, he knows Steve had another motive. He knew Steve wanted to help him in some way or separate him from Hydra. And that made him fucking livid. He wasnā€™t just irritated, like he was when Natasha shot his goggles. He was fighting with full on rage, because didnā€™t want to even think about a life outside of Hydra.
Now, I donā€™t think itā€™s full blown Stockholm syndrome anymore now that heā€™s a free man. Thatā€™s why in my initial post I said itā€™s to certain degree. In remission is maybe a way to word it. He canā€™t have full blown Stockholm Syndrome, because if he did, he wouldnā€™t acknowledge that hydra was bad at all, heā€™d straight up defend them. However, he clearly has some level of it since he considers himself to have been hydra, to have been one of them, rather than just their captive.
But this all plays into Buckyā€™s overall-mcu characterization and the way he has conflicting views on his time as the soldier. Because Bucky knows what happened to him was fucked up, that it wasnā€™t actually his fault, but he still feels that way because he was indoctrinated into their culture and his psyche was completely altered by them beyond just trauma. The degree of his stockholm syndrome is what makes him having stressful, conflicting, confusing feelings on it. Itā€™s cognitive dissonance. In case anyone doesnā€™t know, hereā€™s a quick definition: cognitive dissonance is when you have two conflicting thoughts/feelings at the same time or when your actions conflict with your thoughts/feelings.
Cause we know he has cognitive dissonance from his actions as the winter soldier. We know he has extreme stress, shame, and guilt from the fact that he killed people despite it not being in line with his morals. BUT if weā€™re talking about Stockholm Syndrome, it unravels other areas of cognitive dissonance. Itā€™s why he struggles so much with accepting his own innocence and forgiving himself, and rarely acknowledges what was done to him. He knows he was a victim yet he was also a perpetrator. Those donā€™t align, they contradict each other, he canā€™t see how they can be simultaneous, it doesnā€™t neatly make sense how the perpetrator could also be the victim, especially from his perspective. A lot of times, the way people deal with cognitive dissonance is by ignoring one of the feelings/beliefs. His way of dealing with this is to put the blame on himself, because even though it still feels shitty, itā€™s less confusing and easier to accept that than the fact that multiple things can be true at once. Or more accurately from the outsiderā€™s perspective: the fact that his innocence outweighs his guilt.
Thatā€™s why he shuts down anyone who points out heā€™s not to blame. Heā€™s avoiding the feeling of victimhood that conflicts with his beliefs that heā€™s at fault. It shakes everything thing up and makes him feel even worse than just the guilt alone does. Which also is due to the fact that itā€™s easier to believe youā€™re the problem than it is to acknowledge you were helpless. And to deal with the cognitive dissonance heā€™s choosing the more manageable option, being at fault. But all this cognitive dissonance just completely feeds into his guilt and self esteem problems.
(Side note, no I absolutely do not think his guilt is boiled down to just this. This looking at one little piece of the puzzle, itā€™s wayyy bigger than this. Iā€™m just sticking to the context of this post right now.)
He didnā€™t want to do anything Hydra made him do, he never wanted to be with them, yet he accepted Hydra as a home during those 70 years and some of their practices linger in his head. Itā€™s inconsistent to have not wanted to apart of it but adopted the lifestyle anyways. The stress that inconsistency brings is not easy to resolve. Especially because he likely doesnā€™t understand why he felt any kind of attachment to something that caused him and others so much pain. Think about the line ā€œHydra was my peopleā€. We all hate it. Butā€¦.if you look at it from this perspective, itā€™s not necessarily wrong. He spent 70 years with them. 70 years of having nothing but Hydra, having to rely on them, having to endure all the things that cause Stockholm Syndrome to develop. He didnā€™t have a choice in the matter, but it really was his home in his eyes. An abusive, nazi nightmare of a home but still, sadlyā€¦.his home. They were his people, because they forced themselves to be. They were his only people. Again, thatā€™s where the cognitive dissonance comes in: he hates them, he wishes they werenā€™t ever his peopleā€¦.but the fact is that they were. And that eats at him.
And like I mentioned before, Stockholm Syndrome involves indoctrination and adopting the ideals of the captor. It would be hard to completely remove that if itā€™s what you spent decades living by. Hydraā€™s world view and practices probably still slip into his mind a lot, but they donā€™t align with what he truly believes is right, theyā€™re not who he is as a person: again, more cognitive dissonance thatā€™s causing him distress.
All of this is also probably a factor in why he wants to make amends, not only because he wants to right his wrongs and make up for his sins, but he wants to act on this cognitive dissonance. Because amending does align with his feelings of being against hydra, of not wanting to be a part of Hydra. And acting on that might help push away those other feelings of being one of them.
Also think about how he never argues or defends himself when people speak down on him and his past, he never corrects anyone when they say heā€™s hydra, he never has any rebuttal against negative comments about him. Which of course, is due to his low self esteem, and again, guilt. But also it goes back to the Stockholm Syndrome and cognitive dissonance that fuel those feelings. He canā€™t argue or defend his character to anyone else, because he canā€™t even convince it himself. Because for any excuse, any explanation, any proof he has of being goodā€¦.he has something to contradict it with. And how can he truly say heā€™s still a good guy and not at fault when even he is confused about whatā€™s true? When he still has uncomfortable, lingering attachments to Hydra that he hasnā€™t shaken yet?
The point is, his head is fucking mess, which we all already knewā€¦.but looking at it like this just makes you realize how much more confused and lost he is, how his thoughts are literally at war with each other all the time. And when you look at the narrative as a reflection of his feelings, it makes sense why it switches up every second. If itā€™s confusing for a viewer to see the seesaw go back and forth from ā€œvictimā€ to ā€œcriminalā€, then imagine what itā€™s like in Buckyā€™s head.
Now I do feel like thereā€™s a lot more here, you could go way deeper and Iā€™m probably missing some stuff, but itā€™s a place to start. Just some fuel to get the motors running.

Thing about small italian villages is that the didnt really have roads up until the 70's which of course leads to a massive amount of cousin marriage and inbreeding and while yes my particular own has its issues regarding that (3 major families (one of whom i am part of!!! Yay!!!) that all of the other families are related to, everyone there has bone/joint problems or some sort of schizofrenia) the neighboring one is worse as in they have one major family and the rest of the inhabitants are ppl who immigrated to have a quiet life in the mountain slopes and that by itself could be an extremely interesting study bcs everyone there kinda looks the same-ish and has a frankly insane amount of people with developmental disabilities for a population this small
#ok now that i have typed it out i realized it sounds mean and i want to earnestly say that i am not mocking them i just suck at tone#i do not think its something to be laughed at i just think the whole thing is uh. i wouldnt say tragic but really no one's fault#bcs again. if you live in the mountains where the main city is hard to reach bcs of poor road conditions#which leads to isolation and also extreme stigma against the village folk *of course* the village#will become more secluded and incestuous marriages will happen (aside from the obv economical factor#that a pre industrial reality would entrail)#its just. fascinating on a sociological and genetical level. esp since by when the roads were functional#and the village folk stigma had already gone away the whole 'we stay here we stay together we are better than anyone bcs they are envious#of us and we will continue inbreeding and any kids with severe disabilities born from it are actually Blessed because they are born from us#has already taken so much root it is now unlikely to be eradicated . the nature of italian villages is that every once in a while#someone reinvents blood purity and eugenetics lmao#anyways this whole incest thing is also the reason why i get frustrated about those books that have#the main characters go into small bigoted villages and either finding peace there or be horrified by its conservatives ideas#while never digging on the *why*. like yeah all this 'what happens in the village stays in the village and everyone else is an enemy'#but they never dig into why that mentality was born to begin with and how incest there#actively helps this mentality to continue on like you legit still have grandmas telling you to marry ur cousin#anw. i dont know what i was going for w this rant. it originated from knowing that my aunt turned local saint#was actually schizophrenic and was prone to paranoid attacks and mental breakdowns similar to mine#fun stuff!

#my brother in fucking christ this fic idea that came to me thanks to luke's milan adventures is like.....THE most cliche and self-indulgent#fic i've even considered actually writing since i was 17#i've had IDEAS that have been more cliche and/or self-indulgent drop into my head several times#but i've never actually considered writing any of them#most of the time because my brain told me that anna no that's TOO cliche and self-indulgent#but now i'm kinda just like...so what if it's cliche and self-indulgent? like...genuinely so what?#it's not like i'm gonna try and get it published or win an award for originality#or even cater to anyone except myself now that i think about it#tbh i'm not sure if i even care all that much whether or not anyone ends up reading it?#like...if i end up finishing it and posting it and it gets 13 hits and 2 kudos and 0 comments and 0 bookmarks then i actually don't---#---think i'd care all that much?#which is an odd feeling because usually when i write a fic there's a part of me that's concerned about audience perception#and if there will be an audience at all for that matter#but this time i'm kinda just sitting here thinking that....idk that i genuinely wanna write this for myself#and not keep anyone else's likes or dislikes or overall preferences in mind#maybe i won't even post it IF i finish it. maybe i'll just keep it for myself and/or share a PDF with pals who ask for it? i don't know#i'm not sure what the point of any of this was hkgdhkgd#i've just been struggling A LOT with writing lately. but then suddenly got some inspiration right before i left for work earlier#and an idea struck and then formed and i wanna write it without any exterior factors influencing the process#like. i just wanna vibe with my overused tropes and cliche characterisations and predictable plot yk?#cos why the heck not. right? there's literally no reason whatsoever why i can't write a cringe af fic that caters to my---#---super specific personal taste#so that's what i'm gonna došŸ§”

man. grief really sneaks up on ya at the most random times
#Seven's Public Diary#grief#cw grief#vent#cw vent#vent post#cw vent post#cw death#cw pet death#cw pet loss#one minute ur folding laundry and the next ur sobbing over a dog thatā€™s been dead for nearly 10 years#and the one thatā€™s been dead for 9. and the one that's been dead for almost 5. and the cat thatā€™s been dead for almost 3.#and the list goes on. once i start crying about one of them i start crying abt all of them#but it always starts with her. sheā€™s always the first in my mind when something reminds me of dead pets#something. happened to my brain. when i lost her. i donā€™t think anything else has ever fucked me up so badly#which is saying a lot given that iā€™ve lost actual human family. i feel kinda bad admitting it bc like. how do u say that a petā€™s death-#-hurt you more than a persons. how do u say that and not sound Wrong. i dunno#a number of factors all came together to combine into such an awful experience with losing her specifically.. that it just. was different.#kinda insane how itā€™ll be a decade this year and the impact of her death on me and my development is as profound as ever#losing her shaped several core parts of who i am now#at least sheā€™s still with me in that sense. for better or for worse.#anyways. itā€™s not a complete mystery why it suddenly hit me. but itā€™s still wild how much grief hurts when it comes back to the surface#the combination of my Very late period finally being about to start aka Hormone Storm currently happening#plus randomly hearing The House That Built Me for the first time in agesā€¦ was more than enough to do me in#itā€™s been many months it feels.. since my last breakdown over it. so i was due for another round of remembering and lamenting i suppose#i feel better now tho. or no not Better. just emptier. good empty i guess#iā€™m also very hungry now though. so that's enough venting abt it.#itā€™s time for food and sleep now

One thing about me is you can always count on me to want the character who is incomprehensible. People often say "Oh you're gonna want this one for sure" because they think I have a type. There's the secret: There is no type. The only type is confusion.
If the character you are showing to me is perfectly comprehensible and makes sense well unfortunately I will be normal about them. Horny? Perhaps. But to a normal degree.
Show me a cunt who makes no sense at all and it's over. I'm finished. KO'd. I'm done. It's over for me forever.
#at this point i have learned this about myself as well#because i didnt know this either suprisingly#i got the memo after i became insane about Gor//tash#after that i went 'oh ok i think i understand it all now'#actually there ARE some outliers but those are artificially manufactured outliers#as in i become insane about any character i analyse. which means that i get really weird and freaky even if theyre comprehensible#its that uuuh its that one quote. about how you need to understand your enemy in order to defeat them but once you understand#them you love them. so i think thats just what happens in my brain after an analysis. and some of the characters are outliers#because they are both incomprehensible and have been analysed. but that is perhaps a different factor#like as in i become insane about an incomprehensible character i analyse them to understand#i get even more insane.#funniest example of his has got to be Var//ney Castle//vania because the analysis doesnt even explain anything thats wrong with him#like it says a lot of other stuff but hes just incomprehensible for fun. even from a meta perspective hes hilarious they literally#had only two designs and the result is the combination of both of them. no nobody explains why he specifically has weird eyes#see? incomprehensible.#anyway sorry for that. but yeah basically people need to stop being surprised that i want to rail a character when theyre#a puzzle for me to solve or to try to solve. like??? what were you expecting.#show me a character with problems that would take a team of psychologists from all approaches several decades to understand#and ill show you how weird i can get. literally my only criterion for getting insane and unhinged about a character#this is a psa so that nobody gets surprised in the future

When talking about the distinction between Simon Petrikov and the Ice King,Ā  itā€™s important to remember that originally, the Crown wasnā€™t trying to turn Simon into Ice King -
Tumblr media
It was trying to turn him into this guy.
Tumblr media
At the time, the Ice Crown - or rather the Wishing Crown - was programmed with Guntherā€™s wish to become Evergreen. So everything related to making the current wearer like Evergreen is a very direct result of the Crownā€™s Magic. The physical changes -
Tumblr media
And the obsession with the name ā€˜Guntherā€™ -
Tumblr media
And maybe some of the irritability and anger issues -
Tumblr media
That is something the Crown is very directly forcing unto its current wielder.Ā
But everything else?
Ice King, personality-wise, was not much like Evergreen at all, or even like Gunther's view of him. And Ice Finn of the Farmworld Universe was also pretty different from the both of them.
At the time, I remember people assumed Ice Finnā€™s behavior is more indicative of what the Crown is actually trying to do with its wielders. That Ice King is so different because of Simonā€™s subconscious resistance against the Crown - while Finnā€™s much younger and dumber brain is a lot susceptible to the Curseā€™s influence to become some sort of mad world-conquering emperor of ice and snow.Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, with the context of the Crownā€™s actual backstory. That doesnā€™t seem very likely anymore. I think whatā€™s actually happening there is that the Crown is just trying to make its wielder an Ice Wizard on par with Evergreen (who was the Actual Goddam Ice Elemental) and that means pumping the wielderā€™s brain so full of Magic, Madness and Sadness to a level that is bound to overwhelm anyone.
And Simonā€™s and Farmworld Finnā€™s very different behaviors after putting on the crown is indicative, more than anything, of how their psyche reacts to Madness and Sadness in general. You know, Finn has a very proactive and kinda aggressive personality - and you add Crown-induced-Madness-and-Sadness and a compulsion to use Ice Magic as much as possible and you get all ofā€¦. thisĀ
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, for Simon, the compulsions of the Crown originally filtered exclusively via the language of protectionĀ
Tumblr media
As his madness always manifested as romantic obsessionĀ
Tumblr media
And using goofy humor to try and deny the pain heā€™s going throughĀ
Tumblr media
Because thatā€™s how Simonā€™s mind specifically reacts to being flooded with so much Madness and Sadness.
Thatā€™s why thereā€™s so many parallels between Ice King and the sort of mistakes and screwed-up stuff Simon does right now! Heā€™s even kidnapping people again!
Tumblr media
Because the Madness and Sadness of Ice King mightā€™ve been induced by the Crown, but now Simon has plenty of personal home-grown Madness and Sadness inside him - and itā€™s no surprise that Curse-Induced or not, his mind reacts to it in a sorta-similar way. (Although obviously not as intensely, again, there was a LOT of MMS in the Ice Crown).
Now as for Ice Thing, and the fact that he seems to be actually rather well-adjusted under effects of his version of the Wishing Crown. I mean... not by the time of the 1000+ Era, but thatā€™s literally eons in the future and also maybe more Gibbonā€™s fault. Even if the Crown will eventually take some sort of toll on him, for now he seems to be doing pretty well considering his wish. I mean, there's still some sort of Loss of Identity stuff going on
Tumblr media
But everything we've seen of Ice Thing (in the present day, at least) shows him as a friendly and cheerful individual that gets along well with others. A far cry from how maladjusted every single wielder of the Ice Crown acted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the very least, if there's any notable amount of Sadness in him, we really haven't seen it yet.
Tumblr media
There might be several factors here:
First things first, I should acknowledge the possibility that itā€™s just that Orgalorgā€™s eldritch brain is better at intaking all that MMS juice. That could play a part, but I think itā€™s probably more important, at least thematically, to look at the distinction between ā€˜I wish to be Evergreenā€™ and ā€˜I wish to be Ice Kingā€™.Ā
First in the sense that while Ice King was occasionally mean to Gunter at times - he was generally much kinder than Evergreen ever was for ā€˜hisā€™ Gunther. So, like, pretty much the one Personality Flaw of Ice King that you can directly link to the Ice Crownā€™s attempt to mimic Evergreen is the occasional anger issues.
Tumblr media
And how they relate to Guntherā€™s view of Evergreen, so grumpy and controlling and constantly saying ā€˜NO!ā€™
Tumblr media
(Both Finn and Simonā€™s demonstrable not-crown-induced trauma responses can make them pretty short-tempered as well. So Iā€™m not going to say this is purely the effects of the Crown. It still probably plays some sort of factor at why the wielder of the Ice Crown is Like That).
And that is not a factor in how Gunter views Ice King. For him, Ice King was a doting and loving father figure - so if the Crown was ever trying to implement any sort of specific negative personality traits, this is absolutely no longer a factor. Because the original Ice Crown was a reflection of Evergreenā€™s abuse, and now Ice Thing is a reflection of Ice Kingā€™s fatherly love.
Tumblr media
Which is, itself, probably an echo or remnant of Simonā€™s own strong parental instincts.Ā
Tumblr media
Secondly, while the Crown was trying to make the Ice King just as powerful as Evergreenā€¦. Ice King was obviously not as powerful as Evergreen. Because he was already a second-rate copy of the Ice Elementalā€™s power, and because Ice King was often just too doofy to use his powers correctly and probably because some remnant of Simonā€™s original sensible self is subconsciously holding his powers back.
Either way, being ā€˜like Ice Kingā€™ as Gunter sees him requires less Magic than being ā€˜like Evergreenā€™ as Gunther saw him - and therefore less Madness and Sadness. Leading to the wearer or, um, the eater being a lot more well-adjusted from the get-go.
And I think that the implication that Ice Thing has fused with the Crown, so there's never going to be another poor sap who puts on the Crown and gets Ice King'd. But if there is one somehow... at least the process is going to be less mentally detrimental that time around?
Maybe one day Simon could look back and appreciate how much he (or Ice King, or both of them, or however you want to look at the situation) is responsible for basically neutralizing the Crown that ruined his life in the first place.

Is there any plan for after Harris loses (which seems inevitable at this point)? People are pointedly not talking about after, so I assume that Trump winning really does mean everything is Over in a very final way.
...
Both of those assertions are wrong.
Polls are notoriously unreliable (and getting less reliable), and things are close. I honestly have no idea who's going to win. But right now, fivethirtyeight.com (which is the best overall politics predictor in the US, and has been for the last several election cycles) has Harris ahead by 1.3 points. So, no, Trump winning is not inevitable.
But especially with things this close and the election this close, this is the least likely time for people to be publicly talking about contingency plans for a Trump win. The more people think Trump is going to win, the less likely Harris voters are to show up at the polls ... which means that Trump is more likely to win. Talking about how awful a Trump presidency would be if he got elected can motivate people to vote, when paired with "but voting for Harris can help prevent that!" Talking about what to do after he wins (if he does) is much more concrete and much more likely to convince people that there's no point in voting, we need to move on to the next step of preparing for the inevitable. But it isn't inevitable! Not even close!
Organizations at all levels--political groups, advocacy groups, charities, legal aid groups, etc.--have been preparing all along. But the more you talk about those contingencies in public, the more likely you are to actually need them.
And the thing is, we know a Trump win would be bad. How bad, and in what way exactly ... depends on a lot of factors. His first term was bad, but he was prevented from achieving his goals because he is incapable of keeping competent people around, and nobody knew how to make the bureaucracy of government do what they wanted it to do. He may have fixed that problem, he may not. We know what his goals are and those of his closest allies. What we don't know is, would he be better able to carry those goals out this time if he wins, and if so, how many of them he will be able to enact. And what we, as leftists, can do in the event of a Trump presidencey depends on all of those things!
So it's much better to point out that the odds are in Harris' favor right now (even if not by much) and we need to go out and make sure they stay in Harris' favor.

Top 5 Logan's kinks šŸ‘€?
These are in no particular order!
Top 5 Kinks
Logan Howlett x Reader
Warnings: 18+ NSFW | no pronouns used for reader | thereā€™s like- two cutesy moments if it counts for anything :3
Breeding/bare- Sure, Loganā€™s a man. Heā€™s obviously going to prefer no condom. It just feels better for both parties! But Logan is a possessive man, and a territorial beast. Itā€™s only natural for him to mark you in the most primal way he can! But in the case you are able to get pregnantā€¦ thatā€™s actually terrifying. Logan is terrified of actually having kidsā€¦ (which isnā€™t to say he doesnā€™t want themā€¦ but there are a lot of other problems involved with that šŸ˜…) But at his core, Logan is an animal. More so than a ā€œnormalā€ human. Itā€™s literally just another part of his predator instinct. It doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s a rough fucking or making love, once he gets into it, youā€™ll have to remind him several times to pull out (assuming you remember yourself šŸ˜©). It also doesnā€™t help that he can literally smell when youā€™re ovulating šŸ˜³ he getsā€¦ pretty orneryā€” if he even can be more ornery than normal! Heā€™s possessive and horny and really struggling to care despite the risk and his fears šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø And with his nose buried in your neck the whole time, not very subtle as he breathes in your scent and damn near panting, itā€™s really all he can think about šŸ„“
Collaring- It probably took a lot of practice and maybe a little bit of taming, but Logan is very fond of collar time :3 I have a lot to say about this one, so thereā€™s actually hcs right here! And maybe I just couldnā€™t think of another kink ;)
Play-fighting/Rough play- Obviously, the constraints of this kink will heavily depend on you šŸ˜… But anything from a quick wrestle to digging your nails into his throat toā€”if you rile him up enough in the right situationā€”straight-up stabbing him is on the turn-on list šŸ¤  You could push him back on the bed a little too confidently, and youā€™ll activate that fighter instinct... and Logan is actually just pretty playful šŸ„¹ Heā€™s far too strong for you to actually push around very much, but he still likes to have you fight back ;) Donā€™t worry! Even when he puts you in a headlock between his big ol biceps, heā€™s still gentle! But fight back!!!!! Even if you know you wonā€™t win!!! Bite his arm, kick him, something!!!!! Maybe having you struggle in his grasp turns him on (prey drive???), but actually having you fight back gets him rock-hard šŸ˜© Training in the Danger Room? The others definitely give you both a hard time at every session now after a spar turned a little more hands-on one timeā€¦ it was one time šŸ˜’ Back in the bedroom, he can enjoy some general rough play as well. Maybe itā€™s the healing factor, maybe heā€™s become quite the masochist after a century or two of living, but donā€™t be afraid to claw down his back and bite as hard as you need into his shoulder! Choke him while heā€™s collared, or when youā€™re feeling pretty confident while heā€™s letting you top for once! Unfortunately, he wonā€™t have anything to show for all your hard work :( but he enjoyed it!
Grinding/dry humping- Logan is a man of action! And an impatient one at that when heā€™s gotten riled up. It probably took a while to get him into the groove of non-penetrative sex! Besides, sometimes thatā€™s your only option šŸ˜… But Logan is definitely a true believer now šŸ˜ˆ Wake him up by grinding bare on his tummy, or invade his little stress relief hideaway where heā€™s smoking and/or drinking to hump his thigh šŸ˜˜ Watch him roll his head back and close his eyes with a sighed grunt of satisfaction. He doesnā€™t need to watch. Much more into the feeling, your smell, pawing at your thigh/assā€¦ When it comes to full-on dry humping, the man probably swears more and gets more choked up than during penetrative sex šŸ„“ And for once, he prefers to be bottom while you ground your hips into his. He has to admit, thereā€™s something about the friction of his jeans and the fact youā€™re both still fully clothed thatā€™s surprisingly way more hotā€¦ or perhaps youā€™re even both still in uniform! Sometimes the adrenaline rush after training just canā€™t wait šŸ˜˜
Scenting/smelling- Maybe not necessarily a kink? But itā€™s definitely something he does on a regular basis, sometimes without either of you really thinking about it! Sometimes heā€™s just being playful with it! Like sticking his head under your shirt and rubbing his face on your tummy a few times before just resting there with that heavy sigh dogs do when they get comfy in their bed šŸ„° If heā€™s in a good enough mood and tired enough, you might even get a head bump or two to the shoulder while out with the others! Itā€™s definitely not always so innocent and sweet, thoughā€¦ He can pick up smells better than a damn bloodhound, and, combined with that territorial instinct mentioned earlier, thereā€™s definitely going to be some freaky stuff going on behind closed doors šŸ˜ Yes, itā€™s probably going to be a bit embarrassing every time he sniffs your sex before going down on you. And when sticks his nose in the wet spots he just made you leave on the end šŸ˜ And probably when he sniffs your neck before rubbing his face there. Heā€™s absolutely gotten possessive about you smelling like another manā€¦ or maybe he just really doesnā€™t like waking up in bed to the smell of LeBeau lingering right next to him šŸ˜’ Cuddling is one thing, but when he starts trying to subtly rub you down with his face? Well, itā€™s not very subtle šŸ˜ But heā€™ll make sure you smell like him again šŸ˜Œ It settles his territorial side. Itā€™s comforting, in a way! But it also definitely turns him on a little without him meaning for it! Especially when you walk through and he can smell his own arousal on you from the day before ;)

The problem with the concept that there are trans men who donā€™t have male privilege is that it seems to imply that there are trans women who DO have it, which is a concept that is widely agreed to be unequivocally transmisogynistic. Any rebuttal for this?
My rebuttal is; I know trans women who have lived in my house and sat on my couch and watched movies and played videogames with me who have told me to my face that they did receive male privilege on a similar incredibly conditional, individual, and situational basis similar to how I am describing for trans men, how it relied on the closet and total stealth, and very aware they had to be of the line they were toeing, and how much worse they are treated now that they are out and transitioning, and how afraid they are to say it because of rabid people online who are looking for any excuse whatsoever to hurt them when they deal with that enough in their everyday lives.
I am forever reminded of this older interview (mid-90s early 2000s I think) of transgender Japanese citizens and this one person who was probably what we would call a trans woman. And, like my butch friend, was trapped in a situation in which there was absolutely zero room to breathe. They were amab, married to a woman with multiple children, working as a businessman to support the family. They said how they always felt like a woman on the inside, and how they knew that could never be a reality for them, so they didn't see much point in pursuing anything because it would break their family apart. The only thing they could do was make various cute needlework girly things during their daily commute to and from work. They had some cover story for their wife that they were buying them from a shop for their daughters or something.
Do you think that this person, who is perceived by everyone around them to be a cis man for several decades, does not benefit from male privilege in any way despite probably not actually being a man? Do you understand what I'm talking about when I say that this is a topic that needs to be discussed with far more delicacy and nuance than "man privilege woman not privilege"?
Do you think that all of the accounts of trans women out there saying "when I came out and started identifying as and passing for a woman, people suddenly started treating me much worse" and "I frequently have to boymode because otherwise my life is too dangerous" aren't discussions of exactly what I'm talking about?
Privilege is a tricky, complicated thing. It's also something bigoted society bestows upon you, and not a moral critique of your own existence. TERFs and MRAs both have poisoned the well, but that's not a reason to completely disregard the much-needed grace that has to be had during these conversations.
Personally I think any trans person's experience with "male privilege" is shakey at best and entirely contingent on a wide number of factors that you can't just point at their gender and say yes or no. I think it's way more complicated than that. And I don't think anyone is lesser for having or not having it, either. Gender is a morally neutral thing. Gender presentation is a morally neutral thing. It is okay to exist. It's okay to have a complicated existence.

Are you a trans girl or non-conforming and would like to try out feminine clothing? You may want to check this out.
Say you found this dress online and you really love the overall style of it. Great! If youā€™re like me, you would sayĀ ā€œF it! Iā€™ll buy the dress and Iā€™ll wear it how I like!ā€ and move on with your life. That should the end of this guide, right? Except, there is one little problem: not everybody thinks this way. Those who look for the best matching outfits arenā€™t just searching to fit their style, color, or personality. It also has to do with their body type. If youā€™re in that situation, this guide may help you out.
Body shape
Believe it or not, there are many different types of body shape (up to 10). However, the most common tend to be the following (in no order):
Tumblr media
Rectangle- Even distribution on shoulders, hips, and waistline
Pear/Triangle- Wide hips, well-defined waist, small shoulders
Hourglass- Near-exact hip and shoulder measurements, thinner waistline
Inverted Triangle- Broader shoulders, narrower hips, little waist definition
Apple/Round- Broad shoulders and big bust, thin legs and hips
Many transgender women have the inverted triangle body shape due to several factors such as genetics, bone structure, and age. However, your body shape may also change over time due to a rebalancing of hormones, body fat, and even lifestyle. While you canā€™t change your bone structure, you can change your body definition through exercises.
Body proportion
Here is something you may find useful if youā€™re looking to customize your look. Body proportions are unique to every individual and play a factor on clothing and to some extent, accessories such as jewelry. For instance, you may find the skirt you bought looks either too long or short. There are a few areas where to measure your body proportions such as wrist length or neck size. But the best way to improve your dress type is by following theĀ ā€œgolden ratio ruleā€ of dividing your body into three:
Tumblr media
The way this is read is youā€™re either one-third top, two-thirds bottom, or youā€™re two-thirds top, one-third bottom. Once you get more knowledge, you can go upwards even eighths! But for now, the focus is on these two outcomes.
The two-thirds top, one-third bottom words well with long dresses:
Tumblr media
while the one-third top, two-thirds bottom works well with more casual clothing:
Tumblr media
Body measurements
Now that we got a few problems out of our way, itā€™s time to figure out what measurements you have. The best way to find out is by using a mirror and a soft measuring tape for body. Measure all the crucial parts of your body, which are the waist, hips, shoulders, and bust. This will determine the type of body you have and have a better idea on what length you will need to try out your clothing of choice.
Tumblr media
Shoe size
One thing very important about an outfit is choosing footwear. Although you can use your old Converses with your flared jeans, youā€™re certainly not going to use them with a ruffled dress. Youā€™re definitely going to want heels or flats! Unfortunately, womenā€™s shoe size are not exactly the same as men. But donā€™t give up! Fortunately, there are womenā€™s size conversion charts that help you choose what shoe size you need.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To find out your measurements on your own, grab at least two blank pieces of paper, a pencil or pen, and a measuring tape. Place your foot firmly forward and carefully trace around the outer area of your foot. Repeat this with your other foot. Once finished, grab your measuring tape and measure from your highest point to your lowest on both sheets. Measure the width as well. If both feet measure close to 10.5, your womenā€™s size is a 12. However, due to a difference in manufacturing based on shoe brand, as well as shoe type like pumps, the average recommended size is at least 2 inches above your actual size. For those living in other countries that donā€™t use the US measuring size, I left a chart that shows all the possible measurements you may use to convert your shoe size into womenā€™s size.
What to wear based on body type
Since not all clothing is made for everyone, itā€™s time to list what is considered theĀ ā€œidealā€ clothing choices based on body type. Note that these are opinions from my sourceā€™s authors. IMO, the pictures below each suggestion are a better opinion. Your are free to choose your type of clothing.
Rounded or apple shapes fit best with monochrome colors and make the person look moreĀ ā€œfitā€.
Tumblr media
Pear or triangle shapes look more balanced with decorative accessories on top while keeping the bottom more plain.
Tumblr media
Rectangle shapes tend to have more volume with a waist belt while pleated pants give more volume on hips.
Tumblr media
Hourglass shapes look best when wearing bodycon dresses and cardigans to emphasize volume in their waistline.
Tumblr media
Inverted triangle shapes pull off the wide leg pants and fitted top combo the best.
Tumblr media
For a much more comprehensive guide for each body type, I highly recommend reading The Concept Wardrobeā€™s guides. It gives more details on what to wear and how to choose the best combinations. Link is provided here:Ā https://theconceptwardrobe.com/search?query=body+frame
Tips on what to wear
Now that you reached this point, Iā€™m pretty sure youā€™re excited to try out what your heart desires. However, before you go out and buy that two-piece dress, I recommend researching and observing the type of clothing women wear today. Believe it or not, people will judge based on your way of dressing, from background to social status to age. A simple look like bodysuit and jeans may look perfect on you and blend you in with the girls, but something like a hot pink bodycon will make you stand out, and most likely not in a good way. So how would you choose something that blends you in with society, but also be comfortable at the same time? Here are some tips and pics:
Find clothing thatĀ ā€œfeelsā€ feminine. In other words, buy clothing thatĀ ā€œfeminizesā€ your body, such as tops that make your shoulders look shorter, wrap dresses that make your waistline shorter, and skirts that make your hips look wider.
Find the best colors based on skin tone and hair color. For instance, try out warm colors such as orange if your skin tone is warm.
Dress sexy, but never go too revealing. Seriously, have some respect to yourself. But if you really want to go out wearing, for example, a two-piece outfit, wear one that looks stylish and flatters your body in a great way.
Use accessories that fit and blend well with your body. Large jewelry goes well with larger frame, small jewelry fits with smaller wrist, and so forth. Donā€™t forget the purse! It is absolutely necessary now that youā€™re wearing pocketless clothing. Choose one that fits your taste and needs.
Bras and undergarments are necessary to wear now. As you further into your transition, your breasts will start growing and it will become more difficult and uncomfortable going out braless. Start out with a brassiere, then move on to a fitted bra as they become bigger over time. As for down there, I would use boy briefs as theyā€™re similar to boxers. Although HRT will cause it to shrink, it does not make it disappear. If you must hide it, use a gaff or a tuck, but do not use chastity belts (Seriously, stay away from that unless youā€™re really into that thing).Ā
Optional: use waist shapers or corsets to slim down waist. Hip enlargement pads will also give your narrow hips and butt much needed volume. Breast forms can also give you an idea how big you want them in the future.
Fashion sense
But the most important part of choosing clothing as a trans girl is to wear whatever suits your taste.
For instance, are you more into the traditional and simple feminine aesthetic? Cottagecore may be for you:
Tumblr media
But what if youā€™re the rebellious type that prefers to defy tradition? Well, maybe the alt-girl fashion is for you:
Tumblr media
Maybe youā€™re the type that changes clothing based on season. So if youā€™re a summer-season type of girl, youā€™re definitely going for an outfit like this:
Tumblr media
How about if youā€™re into the gym? Clearly your goal is to be like this:
Tumblr media
Are you into business casual? Thereā€™s also a pic for that:
Tumblr media
(The girl in the pic is also transgender! Her name is Suzi Hunter, better known as The Sphere Hunter.)
But we also canā€™t forget cosplay, either!:
Tumblr media
(Cosplayer is Eden the Doll, a trans woman cosplayer! Picture belongs to Geo Leon.)
Youā€™re probably the party type who loves some action:
Tumblr media
Casual wear can also be tasteful and attractive too:
Tumblr media
Thereā€™s so much to pic, but each style says a lot about what type of woman you are.
Where to buy clothing
If youā€™re interested in finding the right clothes for you, check out places that are especially gender-inclusive. As Iā€™m based in the US, clothing stores such as Target are a good start while higher-end chains such as Nordstrom and Macyā€™s may have a better variety to choose from. If youā€™re a thrifty shopper, your local outlets, discount stores, and thrift shops have a surprising amount of great clothing for affordable prices. Although online sites like Amazon, Shein, and Zara have affordable and appealing clothing, many of these brands also have ethical concerns that overshadow their reputation. DubbedĀ ā€œfast fashionā€, they are a source of scrutiny among fashion fans and I would personally avoid them if possible. If you really need something affordable and new, I highly recommend purchasing through discount and thrift stores.
If youā€™re in need of safe undergarments, check out Urbody. They have clothing suitable for trans people, non-binary, and other identities, varying from binders to tucked leggings. They are founded by trans and non-binary people and use ethical practices and living wages for their workers. If youā€™re interested in checking their site out, here is the link to their page (I am not sponsored by them):Ā https://urbody.co/
Conclusion
The whole point of this guide is to help you pick the proper clothing and accessories as a newly-out girl. I made this guide since there doesnā€™t seem to be many that are detailed. Keep in mind Iā€™m still learning about female clothing as I am still in the first stages of transition myself. If anyone would like to add more info that is missing or provide any corrections, please reblog and add more helpful tips as it would help trans girls, trans women, non-binary, and anyone else that desires to wear affirming clothing. Please refrain from using any hurtful language if youā€™re doing so. Thank you and hugs!

Guth: Reading Irish Myths & Legends
Now that I am a Real Grown-Up Academic (tm), I have been trying to find a way to support my students and the general public by making medieval Irish literature more accessible to people who, be it a lack of time, disability, or any other factor, find sitting down and reading the original texts challenging.
What I settled on was creating a Podcast where I sit down and read out of copyright translations of Irish legends which I have called Guth: Reading Irish Myths and Legends.
If that's all you need to hear, you can go check it out right now! It is on Spotify (here), Podbean (here), and YouTube (here), and should be on Apple Music in the coming weeks. Alternatively, it is embedded here:
youtube
For those of you who need a harder sell, or want to know more about it, check out below!
So, why Guth? Well, I have encountered several different Podcasts and YouTube Channels out there which are doing something similar, recording audio of them reading medieval Irish legends. While several of these are quite cool, there are issues.
In terms of more benign issues, to get around the issues of copyright, people in these alternatives tend to retell stories, and while that is very cool as an example of something like an oral tradition, it means the stories are often being altered and changed by a non-expert audience. Elements that are not very important are being given great importance, areas that are very important are cut, and sometimes things are incorporated from other texts to make an unspoken composite (or, alternatively, sometimes people cut a section of a text out and retell it independent of its broader context).
These aren't bad, but, it means these other Podcasts and Videos aren't really suitable for my purposes of supporting my students and giving people access to the actual stories.
In terms of the big problems, there is at least one Podcast on a similar topic being presented by someone who I have reason to suspect is faking having a PhD. Further, there are at least two people putting out content like this that are actively forging content and passing it off as authentic who just so happen to also be Fascists. So, not ideal.
I hope Guth can serve my students and interested members of the public by providing a solid academic perspective on a text. Each episode I open with a discussion of our manuscript sources and the date of the text (a lot of other pieces out there will describe tales as 'ancient', when in actuality they're a 14th century scribe just vibin'). I then read the text exactly as it is translated, including using reconstructed Old Irish pronunciation for all the names that appear in the text. Lastly, I conclude with a brief discussion of secondary scholarship I think is particularly relevant for the interests of the public.
All of that to say, I hope people enjoy Guth, and that it can serve people who are interested in the actual medieval tales rather than the various retellings that are circulating out there.

Workin Boys was literally the only thing that saved Hidgens from being flanderized beyond recognition
(Spoilers for Workin' Boys)
So what I think a lot of people don't give much thought to is how much Professor Hidgens as a character has evolved since tgwdlm, essentially becoming a parody of himself.
Think of Hidgens as a character. What are his defining traits?
Did you think about how he is a doomsday prepper who has been stockpiling supplies for 20 years? Because that's how he's introduced in Guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did you try think about how he has a weird relationship with his Alexa? Or did we forget about that?
Tumblr media
In fact, for the majority of TGWDLM, Hidgens' main character trait is that he says weird shit with a Doc Brown voice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole concept of Workin Boys isn't even introduced until the last half hour of the show. That's where he reveals his real motivation: to live out the musical he wrote as a young man.
Actually, no, that's not right. Because his motivation was world peace, and Workin Boy's was just a convenient means to that end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I won't disregard the fact that Hidgens clearly has an emotional connection to the show, but in Guy, it serves as a punchline rather than a driving force.
So now we have this lovely, morally-grey, multi-layered character that we can work with.
By the time we get to Time Bastard, the fandom is expecting a show stopping number reference, so of course we get that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But at this point, Hidge is still that multi-layered character. Sure, showstopping number gets a callback, but we also get a callback to his strange relationship with robots. They make up an equal part of him as a character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time we get to Honey Queen, we have lost several aspects of Hidgens altogether. He is no longer a doomsday-believing recluse. He is now active in the community and his only motivation is to get his show funded. He brings it up at every chance he gets, and his loyalties lie with whoever is more likely to make Workin Boys happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So how the hell do we come back from this?
Well, at first it seems like we're not going to. Workin' Boys (the short film) comes out, and it looks like we're leaning even harder into this aspect of his personality than before. But then we get hit with something we're not expecting: Hidge gets the Ted Spankoffski treatment.
I'm referring to Ted's backstory in Time Bastard, where we learn that all of his actions actually stem from a single, traumatic moment, which in his eyes forced him to alter his behaviour, so as to not go through the same trauma again.
Can you see where I'm going with this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The backstory we get from Hidgens certainly puts things in perspective. No, it's not enough to explain why his behaviour has been so laser-focused on this one show, but it's a start.
Then comes the part that changes everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's left up to interpretation whether these ghosts Hidge is seeing are actually there, or just hallucinations, but that doesn't really matter.
Hidgens had been through a horrible experience, so traumatizing that he is still literally being haunted by it decades later. For one reason or another, he believes that the only way he can relieve himself of these ghosts is by bringing honor to the loved ones he's lost and telling their stories.
This reveal recontextualizes everything we know about Hidgens as a character. Suddenly, this isn't a story about some guy who just really wants to put on his musical, this is a story about guilt. Of course it would be the driving factor in his life. Look at him apologizing to his boys. He feels like he is slandering their memories with everything that goes wrong for the show.
This is supported even more with the ending.
Tumblr media
Henry Hidgens dies with a smile on his face, believing he's finally achieved his goal: to tell the real story of what happened that night.
It finally makes sense as to why we've lost those parts of him--we've retconned the character by revealing that all that simplification of his goals and traits wasn't flanderization at all, but a steady downward spiral of grief over his loved ones. It wasn't Hidgens getting a little too into being a playwrite, it was him descending into madness caused by the inability to please the part of himself (or the literal ghosts, if that's how you interpret it) that believes he's not doing enough.
And if not for Workin' Boys, he would have remained that one-dimensional character.

Hi, gamers. I know the results of the Sandwich Poll have been gnawing at you. So many people wondering whether they answered correctly, which as a reminder is a very important factor in determining which afterlife you end up in when you die. Please understand that I needed a lot of time to internally process these poll results and also that I've been kinda busy/tired. But the people need to know, so here we go.
In total, we received 372 responses. I also spent a lot of my weekend annoying anyone who would listen to me in person about these questions, but I didn't write those answers down.
Question 1 was fairly non-controversial, as it should be. It is worth noting that 3.2% of respondents chose to write-in an answer, and most of these write-in answers were what scientists would call "bad" and "not really useful." So you can assume a 3.2% margin of error on everything in this survey. That's how statistics works.
Question 2 is where we see a real divide. Most respondents consider a sandwich cut into two separate but equal pieces to be one sandwich. This is a real shame, because it's the wrong answer. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Question 3 considers whether one piece of bread cut in half and used for sandwich-making results in a sandwich, and surprisingly the majority of respondents do consider this to be one sandwich. This is really interesting, because despite ending up with functionally and aesthetically the same result as one of the pieces of the sandwich from question 2, a significant number of respondents believe the results to be inherently different. I wish there was a way to better track how much overlap there was for those two seemingly contradictory answers, but the big Sheets page Google Docs is daunting and I don't feel like figuring out how to parse that data, so we just need to accept that we'll never have that exact number. That's how statistics works.
Question 4 mostly just cements the findings of the previous two questions. I do want to point out the one person who answered "who the fuck does this". Sandwich shops do this. Go to a sandwich shop for once in your life and really watch them do their work. Open your eyes.
Question 5 did not get me a lot of useful data, as it turns out having a question that only allowed for write-in answers was a bad idea. However, there are more or less two camps for people who really took these questions seriously and gave it their all. The first school of thought suggests that intent is the most important factor, and if you deem what you've made to be a sandwich, it's a sandwich. While I appreciate the critical thinking on display here, I believe in the other school of thought, which is that when you put ingredients between two breads that's a sandwich, baby. There is a sub-school of thought here that requires those two pieces to be whole pieces, but that's wrong.
One question that I should have included in the survey I think proves my point. If you order a sandwich platter from a deli and they use a single really long piece of bread (think like a several foot long hero) into multiple sections, you would say that you have sandwiches, plural. If you wanted to grab one, you wouldn't say "I'm going to grab a 64th of a sandwich" because you would sound deranged. Despite being parts of a larger whole, they are still ingredients between pieces of bread, and thus fit the definition of "sandwich."
Anyway, thank you for coming on this non-gaming detour with me. It was extremely important that I prove a friend wrong on this topic, and even though I don't think I did that and I think he's choosing to double down on his incorrect opinions, I'm still choosing to spin this as a personal and moral victory. New actual DidYouGamings will come out as soon as I discover any new facts about video games (right now there's only a couple hundred facts about video games at all and I've basically covered all of them.)

What will it take to get the thesis šŸ‘€šŸ‘€
literally nothing, i will talk about brocedes on the internet for free any day of the week.
okay so, one of the things i find fascinating about it is that it's only that clue "i love to drive but i don't really like the attention and media that comes with the job" that lewis seems to focus on. because nico was a monaco princess and has never done any kind of manual labour in his life let alone national service. look at the video of him trying to chop down a tree for an environmental project with his extreme e team if you don't believe me. but lewis ignores that (maybe because the woman says that he'll get it after the next clue). kimi is the obvious choice for a driver who hates media, but lewis was never especially close with kimi, but he was close with nico. and nico did hate the media and the attention that came with formula 1.
something that he and numerous other people around him have said consistently throughout his career is that he's shy. one journalist specifically said that it was a finnish kind of shyness, where he was hesitant to share parts of himself with the world. although i think will buxton's "contenders" article is ridiculous, there are some important things in it. buxton says that nico tried to take control of the questioning during press conferences etc. and if you follow his career, you see that where nico has shared himself with the press and with the world it is very much on his terms. he wanted to be able to be the one to define himself and his image, and it actually backfired spectacularly several times because a lot of journalists in motorsport (will buxton for example) really resented it and became more negative in response.
a lot of people look at the media from nico's career and think that he was very boring or uptight or had no personality. and the truth is that he's actually incredibly fascinating but it never came across because he disliked the media aspects of the job so much (in fairness the media also hated him for just doing his job, and he literally once got told to smile more during an interview because they disliked his demeanour).
even when you look at things like his youtube channel, it was very much the first thing he tried after leaving f1, and since exploring more and finding other projects to be passionate about he's significantly decreased his usage (to an upsetting level to those of us who loved it). when he comes to commentate races it's because he loves racing. like i truly do not believe you can listen to nico talk about max verstappen's driving as art and not think that he's there because he loves the sport and even if he's not racing anymore the love is still there.
another factor for me is that nico's been surrounded by the media and fan attention since he was a child because of his father and his surname. there are photos of literal toddler nico in the williams garage with his parents. the first time he ever met jenson button and jenson nearly threw hands with a 12 year old is immortalised in photos. nico signed his first autograph at nine, because a fan of his dad's said "just in case". the media and the attention has been an intrusion on his life for literally his entire life. you can see from the way he's very careful about what he posts of his children that he wants to give them privacy and respect in their childhood. i do think the media intrusion etc. is significantly worse now than it was when nico was growing up, but i do think that nico's own childhood experiences have influenced the way he parents his children.
and coming back to lewis, the truth about lewis and nico is that they really were best friends. for a while they were pretty much each other's only friend. nico does know lewis better than most people in the world and lewis knows nico better than almost anyone in the world. that just comes with growing up with someone and being there for the life moments that come to define them. so lewis knows that nico is a bit shy, and he knows that nico has never liked media attention. and even though kimi is the absolute obvious choice for disliking media, the first person lewis thinks of for that is nico. because lewis can never forget nico
