I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"

Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.

............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.

YEARS AGO i tried multiple attempts to humanize Porky and Daffy and now i'm trying again. i'm copy and pasting from another server so please forgive the word vomit

I SURE LIKED THIS A LOT BETTER WITHOUT COLOR. first one is the "accurate" version in that realistically, Porky is not going to have pink anime hair. he also has brown eyes apparently (source: one off radio broadcast from like 1945 with him saying this being completely reliant on a punchline. sexy woman is flirting with him. she says he has pretty brown eyes and he says she has pretty brown eyes too) and unfortunately Daffy has been portrayed with blue eyes multiple times and seeing it in human form is like a crime against humanity. but i had to do an Eliza safe version with the second of "less accurate but will stop me from wanting to heave". just better color harmony

so much 80s merchandising has Porky in a three piece suit for whatever reason so im bringing that here. Daffy is having a culture clash because i modeled his outfit after 1940s casualwear (though you'd never be able to tell with the colors LOL) but i modeled him a bit after a young Sammy Davis Jr (and Cab Calloway as well though that's more of a mental inspiration rather than reflected here) and the flat top/accidental like Elvis curl??? i tried to implement his three hair spikes and the ref image i used of Sammy Davis Jr he has like the slightest curl in his hair. but anyway that all is very '50s so there is a clash of the decades. Porky i modeled after Roscoe Arbuckle a bit because i thought i remember hearing he was an inspiration but i might have been thinking of Roscoe Ates instead who was a vaudevillian that did a bait and switch stuttering act. though i would be shocked if Arbuckle WASN'T an inspiration. ANYWAY. i was reminiscing on my old human designs and was like "these could be so much better"

maybe this is a hot take but i do wonder if the initial gnarlrock incident, following argument, and (imo) anticlimactic and almost complete brushing off of that conflict occurring between Imogen and Laudna had actually led to a real conversation about Delilah/her influence and Imogen and Laudna's relationship in general (pre-established romance) would have made discussing Delilah later in the campaign easier

sometimes when total strangers commit the crime of being annoying in my reblogs i DM them or reply @ them before blocking simply due to the autistic need to be understood. BUT i have rules for when i'm allowed to do that.

1. i'm not allowed to do it without running the scenario past a groupchat to make sure i'm justified in annoyance and not simply evil (due to migraine, hangry, etc) 2. i have to make it constructive and helpful feedback, such that they can avoid getting blocked in future interactions. which sometimes makes me feel like i'm some sort of tumblr user manners training wizard. eg:

Anson Mount on his podcast 'The Well'

While shooting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 in Toronto, Anson filmed a podcast episode with co-host Branan Edgens, chatting about tv, books and music.

Anson's book recommendation is The MANIAC by Benjamín Labatut. The book explores the life and thought of a clutch of mathematicians and physicists who took science to strange and sometimes dangerous new realms. Anson's graphic novel recommendation is THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds. It revolves around the idea that if enough people believe in a conspiracy, it becomes real, and there is a government agency involved with keeping reality stable.
