More dnd writing because it's all I have but I here's a snippet from a vignette I did of Rook's past (from Zara's POV), because Rook and his mentors never fails to make me sick (/pos).

Taking a coin out of her pocket, she rolled it across her knuckles, back and forth. It gave her hands something to do, and prevented the urge to bite her nails, something she hadn’t done in years. Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Zara began to pace as Rook’s breathing grew shakier and the color drained from his skin. Where the hells is Jay? she wondered. The room was so quiet that she could hear every tick of the small clock on her bedside table, and each one echoed in her head. How many ticks does he have left? She didn’t want to think about it.  She’d had crew members die before, of course. You don’t go as many years as a captain as she had and never lose a soul. But all the others who had died had died quickly, in combat. She’d mourned for all of them, even shed tears in private, but there was something different about watching the life drain out of a person right in front of your eyes.

no you dont get it. imagine right. your entire life your brother has never been Perfect but he tries to be. and hes talked about wanting to leave but only when hes having a tantrum. AND THEN!!! and then this guy thats not at all Perfect or Holy shows up and starts being friendly with him. and its not a normal friendly and you dont really know what it is but its not normal. and your brother is gradually spending less time with you to go see that guy and when he comes back thats all he talks about and its the happiest youve Ever seen him. and hes arguing with your family more just like that guy does. and hes started talking about Outside and how good it is every chance he gets. and hes telling you about things that youve never even heard of and things neither of you should know about. and you can tell that he wants to go Outside. and its that guys fault that your brother is going against you and his family and everything hes ever known and you need to fix it

Talking about the great fanatic w/SOTF spoilers under the cut

I’m assuming the Great Fanatic is a serpent of some sort (able to wield weapons….?) bc of the reward given, which I find So Interesting……the lore around them gives me a sense of dread in that even in your most feverish devotion, your unshakable faith in a superstructure you strive to preserve (in a world where faith and devotion are sources of power/essence/energy with material consequences rather than just metaphysical etc)……does not always stall death or defeat. How dismal!

In fact, dragons, as in the broader sense of "powerful reptilian/serpentlike beings" are so widespread across human cultures and such powerful symbols that if you're introducing one to your story and want to take it slightly seriously, you have LOTS to work with. Dragons mean things, many things.

so about aporia's ouroboros (as someone who hasn't seen 5ds yet, so take these things with a grain of salt 👀 💦): 1) they really just put "trinity" in the name huh 2) would a "hydra" be more appropriate for his duel runner?

THEY REALLY DONE DID <3 I love the canon Duel Runner names, half of 'em they never even say IN the show but most of them do tie into the aesthetics or the motifs of the character riding it, it's just such a neat little detail. (I'm also a big fan of Primo's duel runner, the T666 TERRIBLE OMEN. EDGELORD ASS MOTORCYCLE NAME.)

Re: the second question, though, IT'S LIKE... yes and no, i think. Cuz YEAH his duel runner is DEFINITELY more hydra shaped than anything, and a hydra themed name woulda fit more on an appearance/aesthetics level for sure. (It is also a mythical animal that makes sense for him, with its multiple heads and tremendous tenacity)

BUT that being said, I think just on the motif and symbolic meaning side of things Ouroboros is already the perfect and appropriate beast to invoke in name, even without being the exact visual the runner is emulating--since like I talked about in my post about it Aporia's already got infinity and endless cycle motifs baked into him, and "Hydra" wouldn't tie into that as well.

Honestly combine both of 'em into some kind of Hydra Ouroboros and then you REALLY have an Aporia beast. Many combined into one and theyre all eating themselves alive. Fun! <3

(Tangentially related aside, my other favorite thing about the Trinidart Ouroboros is that they made a meklord card based off of it!!!!!

Incredibly specific moments in atla i think about ALL the time (i am Not normal)

Zuko's eyes slightly widening when witnessing Katara's bloodbending for the first time

Aang and Katara just missing each other looking back at the other after their argument in The Warriors of Kyoshi

Toph holding onto Sokka's arm once on Appa when he didn't have a saddle and once on the boat bringing them to the lake town

The moon being in full view as Suki tries to kiss Sokka in the Serpent's Pass, and the shadow returning as Sokka leaves

The "four seasons four loves" motif coming back throughout the episodes of the Northern Watertribe and specifically as Sokka gives himself up to serve in the battle against Zhao's seige and Yue turns away and quietly cries as she watches him walk off

Longshot talking for the first time ever as Jet lay dying

In that same breath, the way Toph says "he's lying" as they walk away from Jet knowing that he's going to die

Aang looking back at the Southern Airtemple ruins along with Momo as they fly away from it, seeing it disappear behind the clouds (this one specifically makes me cry so much)

The chants as Aang gets summoned by the Lion Turtle in book 3 being the SAME as the chants when Aang fuses with the ocean spirit in book 1 (there's other moments with these chants i think but i can't remember them off the top of my head)

Aang taking down Ozai's airship in the finale as his first attack and Sokka cheering him on like a proud older brother

Katara immediately without a shadow of a doubt responding "Aang won't lose" when Zuko questions if he'll be able to take on Ozai

Aang knowing Zuko was gonna fire at him in the crystal catacombs as soon as Zuko laid eyes on him (he gasped before Zuko even made a move) when even Azula wasn't sure what Zuko was gonna do in that scenario
