All For The Bit

okay so, bear with me here

When Trigun came into the world the typical shonen protagonist was the loudmouth cheery guy who shouted a lot about friendship, generally had a lot of feelings and wasn't too bright but they had HEART

And this was kind of Vash's Bit in the manga and '98 anime. This is the role he presented himself in. Not an entirely false personality, often exaggerating his own traits, but still a deliberate choice. He's modeled after the harmless, nonthreatening Loudmouth.

Now we come to present day. Now the prevalent shonen protag tends to be The Wimp. Soft-spoken, the ultimate doormat, essentially decent and kind but weak-willed. Earnest, but no one takes them seriously. Eager to please. Belittles themself.

Vash has updated The Bit. He now presents himself as The Wimp because that is the common type of protagonist in recent times. That is the type of protagonist viewers will be most familiar with. He's not like 90s Vash because he is 20s Vash, he's this generation's Vash.

I have no idea if Orange did this deliberately but I think it's cool. It's a new show made by a new generation of creators who want to tell new stories about characters they love.

Little but Fierce

Now, I might be mistaken, but judging by the number of bare pectoral muscles strewn over my dash at any given moment, I'm gonna say Wolfwood is pretty popular? And that's understandable (he's a loser <3) but it's a genuinely terrible shame that Meryl gets overlooked. Especially in Stampede. Orange have done some really amazingly cool things with Meryl.

And it makes me a little nervous to say so, but I think they only could have done them by detaching her from Milly, at least for a time. Milly's still going to show up and I'm confident from this precedent they'll treat her well, so I'm at peace with her absence for now.

Nightow is unexpectedly good in many ways. He treats sex workers as human, which is a low bar that many nevertheless fail to clear, and my only serious disappointment in Maximum was in how the girls vanished for long periods. I recall an interview where he said something to the effect of being reluctant to put them in harm's way, and while I'm disinclined to take anything Nightow says entirely at face value (I don't think he's a liar, but I do think he has a sense of humour that inclines him to kindly trolling, which I respect), that would line up, I think.

I think Orange are taking the opportunity to remedy this disappointment.

It's exciting. It's the kind of writing for female characters in genre media I've always craved. I will not be silenced on how extremely gay I am for Meryl Stryfe.

Unfortunately that means for this first entry, I'll have to talk about Knives. (Whom I also love, but not in a gay way. More an affectionate revulsion. He's fascinatingly horrible, this man.)

So. I've noticed a distressing tendency for Knives's... really almost anything that ever comes out of his mouth (seriously) to be taken as the honest, objective truth. After all, they didn't call him a villain.

And what an honest face he has!

As Knives has it:

Vash is pretty, but he's useless without his brother. He's a powerless, weak, pathetically naïve, blubberingly sentimental little baby who doesn't care about the Plants, too busy enabling humanity's abuse via performing his cringing, grasping abasement before them to notice how his brethren suffer. Knives himself is the more powerful (and much less human-like) of the twins; the strongest and most righteous activist for necessary change now that, sadly despite all good faith attempts at communication, non-violent solutions have failed. He truly has only the best and most altruistic intentions: the freedom of his people, and the happiness of his brother.

Here's the problem. This has always been the problem. Every one of the statements in the paragraph above is false. Except the one about Vash being pretty.

Once more with feeling: They are completely untrue. They are supported by literally nothing. All we have is his word that they're true and there's so much existing evidence to disprove his claims that even the thought of compiling it exhausts me.

However, I did say that Zazie is a truth-teller in this story, didn't I? So let's examine some of Zazie's conclusions.

Now, I've seen reference to the surviving human communities on No Man's Land as "colonisers", and that their treatment of the Plants even before the Fall is analogous to slavery. (My strong suspicion is that Knives is purposefully invoking those comparisons, in fact.) Those are both extremely loaded analogies, culturally and emotionally, and I just want to gently, respectfully caution those who make them against overlooking the more nuanced and purposeful analogies being made. Or maybe should I say, the actual individuals to whom they apply.

Zazie is very careful to say this: Knives told them humans can't be trusted to learn from consuming their home planet. Knives was the one who said humans will have Zazie's planet next, and that only Knives will "use" the Plants correctly - so Zazie should ally with Knives.

Here's what Knives meant by "using the Plants correctly":

I, uh, think Zazie may have made the wrong call on this one! And that Zazie thinks the same.

This is what makes the interaction with Wolfwood so funny and sad - the all-knowing, ostensibly unkillable Zazie is freaking the hell out, staggering under the weight of realising just how apocalyptically badly they have fucked up. Wolfwood, who also directly instigated this disaster but under duress, is grimly amused - he did everything he did fulfilling the contract to protect the kids, even as his conviction failed, even though he would rather have died, even after Livio... and thus he personally rendered all his own efforts and sacrifices moot.

And he's just like, "Heh, yeah. That tracks." This poor boy.

Afterwards, Zazie is confused and even a little saddened that Vash was demonised in the wake of July's destruction. Never let it be said the bug fails to learn from experience: Vash is the one everyone blames? Ah, so he was in fact spectacularly heroic and clever and it's entirely Knives's fault it turned out so badly.

Also, crashing on this specific planet wasn't exactly humanity's choice. Guess whose choice it was.

Go on, guess. Better yet, guess why.

Yeah. It was also Knives who said to Zazie that both he and Vash crashed the ships... trying to stop us. From doing exactly what Knives tried to do the very instant he got the chance.

The thing is, Knives does everything he can to look like he's right by positioning himself as the most authoritative source, but he isn't ever backed up by like... facts. Or evidence. Or reality. Or anything. Ever. He crowned himself king of the Plants. He speaks and acts for them by divine right, apparently. He didn't take a vote or anything - in his mind it's self-evident only he understands the world, and Vash, and the correct way to use the Plants. Because remember that it's not using Plants he gives a damn about, even using them to death in the Last Run, as long it's him doing it. It's being dependent upon humans; he views providing for our basic survival needs as wasteful and inherently, exclusively parasitic, even if we're helping the Plants to survive in turn. Because it's humans that he's frightened of, and he wants the yucky things gone.

The thing is, when he's not being purposefully manipulative (though Vash is the only one he manipulates in person, probably because Vash is the only one he pays enough attention to for his tactics to be effective) he's being a dense fucking idiot. At very few points do his delusions intersect with reality.

The thing is, Knives is a known, proven, and entirely unrepentant liar. It's the logical extension of the way he gaslights Vash. He is in no way a trustworthy source of information.

All that he says is part of a heroic narrative about being the specialest boy evar that he came up with to avoid taking any blame or responsibility for the consequences of his actions. Knives considers himself perfect, but he's made plenty of mistakes, which I do think he would consider mistakes - among them Rem's death, alienating Vash, cutting off his arm and rendering him disabled, and what I suspect to be the large number of Plants killed in the Fall, along with the ones consumed by the Last Run in the desperation that followed.

So he tells himself... little stories. Inside his head. It's how he reconciles it. It's how he copes.

Basically, if you want to find any truth in anything Knives ever says, look closely at what he says, and believe the opposite.

More Reverse Isekai Hcs with the Twins

another one with more focus on Vash, but Nai is there too. V relationship with reader so absolutely nothing going on with the twins.

•Vash loves window shopping. there's so many interesting things on Earth! Vash drags you around to each store and always ooo's and ahh's at everything. obsessed with stickers and animal shaped things (especially when it comes to cooking.)

•he bought animal cookie cutters and immediately tried them out and was both slightly disappointed and dying of laughter when the cookies came out way rounder than when they went in. Vash frosts them very seriously either way, holding in laughter at how they look. he can't hold it any longer when you catch his attention, holding up what was meant to be a bear, decorated with nothing but a small 'c:' on its face. you're wavering straight face and almost serious voice saying "he chonky" has him losing it.

•every once in a while when Vash is putting something in the oven, he'll quote that copypasta "Why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food?" Nai wants to smack him everytime he says it.

•speaking of, Vash quite likes internet language. he's not excessive with using them, but sometimes Vash'll be like 'look at the doggo/pupper!' he also starts saying lol and pog. he doesn't say them in public much though. he's still trying to learn about the difference in online culture and offline culture.

•unlike Nai, Vash finds merchandise fascinating. he loves looking at plushies, figurines and charms, he thinks it's all so cool! Vash buys you all matching phone charms. it makes him so happy whenever he spots it dangling from yours and Nai's phones.

•but speaking of, Vash finds out about the figurines of himself and if he can, he's absolutely buying them. he's looking at them and is all like damn I look so cool! and rubs it in Nai's face that he has not only more, but cooler figurines.

•Vash recreates the poses of them too, aiming his finger gun at you, before yelling out a bang, lifting his arm up in fake recoil. you gasp, griping at your torso, dramatically falling to the floor. "help me Nai, I've been shot!"

Nai rolls his eyes at the two of yours antics, making his way towards you and picking you up. As he makes his way towards your bedroom he says, "I have to give her medical attention, don't bother us."

Vash's eyes widen as he gets up to follow Nai. "Now wait a second!"

•the dorks actually do know how to share you. it was a little rough at the beginning but they've learned and figured things out pretty well! they don't fight for your attention, but they do get a little jealous, and pouty if you give too much attention to the other often. they're both pretty touch starved so good luck lol. however they do read eachother well and know when not to try and get your attention from the other.

•Vash would've loved the time when mustaches and the peace symbol were insanely popular.

•speaking of mustaches, Vash once came home wearing one of those fake glasses with mustache and nose disguises. when you turned to welcome him home he responded with a serious face, "who is Vash?" you fake a gasp asking who he is and what he's doing there. before Vash can respond, Nai is getting up with a grin on his face. "well since we don't know him, we can kick him out and make sure he can never get back in."

Vash nervously laughs, waving his hands, "we don't need to go that far haha.."

Nai laughs back mockingly,"why not? you are breaking into our house, stranger."

Vash immediately yanks the glasses off, "look! its me! Vash!" you gasp and run up to him, hugging his side. "Vash! there was a tall scary stranger in here! I'm glad you're here to help Nai protect me!"

Nai watches as Vash coddles you. he'd be lying to himself if he said he hated the antics you two do. he watches you give Vash a kiss on the cheek before walking over and pulling you away from Vash. "I'm the one that protected you, why are you praising him?" he asks, staring at you with narrowed eyes. Nai may look angry but really, he just wants kisses too.

•Vash loves bees! he'll go out to the little garden he's been working on and watch as bees and butterflies come by. it's one of his favorite pastimes.

•Vash is very involved with the community. he always offers the neighbors any extra food he's made and seeing if anyone needs help. he's happy to mow someone's lawn or weed a garden and do any small chores someone may be unable to do. Vash also goes around and tries to volunteer a lot since he can't really work. as much as he likes exploring hobbies, he gets a little restless being at home so much.

•Vash wants to try eating everything and that doesn't just include meals. somehow Vash learned that dandelions are edible and the next time you two take a walk, before you truly realize it, you're watching Vash shove the yellow part of a dandelion flower into his mouth.

•but seriously he really does want to try eating different plants. Vash does a lot of research and is always giving Nai suggestions of foods to incorporate into meals.

•if Vash could, I could absolutely see him working in the medical department as a pediatrician. he loves kids a lot and he's great at playing with kids, comforting them and making sure they feel as happy as they possibly can be at the hospital. he always jokes around with them, gets to know each kid he works with and always tries to be there for them when they're sad or scared.

•likewise, I know I said Nai would work at a book store, but I like to imagine Nai could become a surgeon. he's not lost to the irony in it, that he's saving lives, but it's just something he's taken an interest in. he wants to learn about human anatomy. (idk how to explain it really but it just makes sense to me. he'd be good at it too, never gets tired, steady hands, keen eyes, very precise)

•prank Vash a little bit when it comes to the modern era. tell him that when the plane lands everybody claps and applauds the pilots. Vash almost did that the first time he went flying, he lifted his hands up, but he was confused when no one started clapping. he catches on quickly that it was a prank.

•Vash combusts if you ever sing E.T by Katy Perry. stare at him as you sing it and he'll get so red in the face. he's covering his face with his hands and curling into himself and whining out to stop.(he doesn't want you to though)

•same with if you prank him and show him that The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang. go up to him and tell him you have a cool popular song to show and he lights up, Vash likes pretty much all of the songs you show him. when the song starts, he's bopping his head to the beat and tells you, smiling, it's cool so far. then the lyrics start and Vash's smile immediately falls and he blushes so hard. he can't even look at you and you're laughing your ass off at his reaction.

•Nai, the boring fucker, would just raise an eyebrow at you. he either doesn't fall for your pranks or just has no reaction. shame.

@naynayasd and I just saw that photo and immediately visualized the whole plot. The railways. Vash tied to them. Wolfwood coming to his rescue. Not untying him because he’s a little shit (and knows Vash can get out of that easily enough, the rope work is not incredibly sturdy). Carrying him like a sack of potatoes (and Vash embarrassingly noticing how hot and bothered he gets with how the guy manhandles him like he weighs nothing). Some idiots attacking them. Vash getting rid of the ties enough to fight but not to run. Some seriously cool action scene. Maybe Wolfwood carrying him bridal style into the setting sun while Vash jokes he could swoon to hide that he is, in fact, swooning.

So, as aforementioned, I definitely see Vash as a dad to either twin boys or twins where there's 1 boy, 1 girl

Vash embraces becoming a dad almost immediately, but the poor guy is filled with self-doubt

"What if I can't protect them, (Y/N)? What if... I lose them, too?"

Poor guy has definitely had like a borderline breakdown over having children to protect, but you're always there to comfort him and reassure them that you and him were a team

ONTO DAD!VASH

Absolutely a doting dad

Would be the kind of dad who would wake in the middle of the night when either one of the twins woke up, allowing you to sleep and rest

You'd definitely catch him holding the twins close when they're still babies, tears streaming down his face as he holds them close and comforts them, kissing their small heads

He just loves them so, so much, your family is his driving force in life now

Seriously, Vash takes every opportunity to hold the twins, feed them, cuddle them, burp them, etc. he's constantly involved and helping

As the twins begin to get older, Vash is still protective but he's definitely a fun, loving, and fun-loving dad

Would be the kind of dad who would attend tea parties in full get up (boas, sunglasses, tutus, you name it) if the twins wanted him to

I can literally picture Vash doing the "airplane" thing with both the twins, letting them "fly"

There's definitely been moments where you had to tell not only the twins off, but Vash, too

But all three of them share the same puppy-dog eyes that melt you (curse you, genetics), so you're softer on them all than you wish you were sometimes

Don't get me wrong, though - Vash can be fun, and is definitely a great dad, but he also knows when to put his foot down

He's always kind and understanding, never raising his voice with the twins, instead sitting with them and talking out the situation, whatever it may be

As for the twins themselves, because they're hybrids, they grow up considerably faster than human children, but not nearly as quickly as plants do

I feel like the twins would mostly look like Vash, with only a feature or two being inherited from you

Seriously, all three of them would have the same big, blue, expressive eyes, they'd have the same birthmarks, but maybe their hair colours differ, the hair types differ, the skin colour differs, etc.

(I leave how the twins look like up to you, dear reader)

TLDR: Vash is best dad and the twins would grow up to be wonderful people thanks to him and you :D

TMNT - Seriously like every show and movie is GREAT and I'm currently reading the IDW comic. I've literally adopted each and every turtle as my own son.

Trigun - Vash the Stampede is my BABY GIRL and MY HUSBAND. I've been into Trigun since I was a lee wass. I love Vash so much. I got my dad to actually watch Trigun with me so it's something really cool to bond over with family. Trigun stampede is also like SO good. I also read Tri Max in the library and didn't publicly cry. :)

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle / XXXholic / Magic Knight Rayearth/ Clamp - I'm super into these classical shoujo series. They shaped how I am as a person to this day. Clamp was a lot of firsts for me in terms of manga reading so they're forever in a special place in my heart.

Scum Villain's Self Saving System - This book lives rent free in my mind. I can't believe how funny it is. It's so insane and I love every second of it. How am I somehow Binghe and ShenQingQiu at the same time, but lowkey I want what CumPlane have IRL. that's the ultimate romance to me and they're platonic .

Lout of the Count's family - LITERALLY go read it this series. Cale Henituse, young master silver shield, is EVERYTHING. That sweet man who adopts everyone is just like me FR except we're nothing alike BUT I STILL LOVE HIM.

Art/ Creative Expression! Being able to draw pretty neat stuff whenever I want is so awesome! It's more then drawing, I like writing and making stuff by hand too.

Super generic answer but my family! I have a pretty small family and a bunch of pets. We're all super close and they bring me joy. I like helping and taking care of them and I like it when they help and take care of me!

Another Generic answer, my friends! Sometimes they're the reason I get up out of bed! Friends are awesome like that.

Brainrot! Zoning out about my latest brainrot is my life copium. I like to imagine my current fav character being horribly tortured by the narrative but it's ok because my brainrots always have hurt comfort. Or I just imagine bundling up my Oshi in a blanket and giving them a warm bowl of soup. It can go either way really.

Cartoons, Anime, Movies, Media/entertainment in general - I can't get enough of them. They're just so delightful especially the ones with whimsy.

Trigun Manga Reaction

Now back with Volume 1 - Chapter 3

I like this. Simple pose but very interesting with the "imbalance" I guess with the tilted head, shadowed face, and slightly lower slope of one shoulder. It's not "stiff" and it's easy to imagine the wind blowing through Vash's coat and hair.

A thought occurs tho, Did Trigun predate Tetsuya Nomura's obsessive belts, belts, and more belts design quirk? Did Nightow and Vash started that anime fashion trend?

Uhuh. Says the people who tried to shoot a GRENADE at that same one guy.

I kinda put these three panels in a sequence because... we know Vash is a good guy. Of course, he's going to save the women but the emphasis on the Nebraskas reaction to his rescue is really interesting.

Vash gives them a side-eye. He's either gauging their capacity for mercy or already clocked in that they are capable of mercy and silently hints for them to wait just a moment.

Father Nebraska understanding and just waits as he smokes. Then confirms first if Vash is ready to rumble again.

Idk. It's a moment of humanity not only for Vash but for the Nebraskas too imo.

AND IT'S WEIRD! In '98, Father Nebraska tried to get a cheap shot on Vash while he was still carrying someone to safety.

Yeah, assholes. Vash is doing his best to keep the women in the clear while you guys just throws grenades willy-nilly into buildings who have people in them. Smh.

Ngl. This sequence confuses me a bit. But, going with what happened earlier, the Nebraskas were not targeting the women. The punch was intended for Vash - which he dodged easily. However, instead of running further away, he shielded the women from the flying debris that the punch caused.

WHICH AGAIN, I REITERATE, IS REALLY WEIRD FOR '98 TO DEVIATE FROM!

In the '98, they are bonafide bad guys but in the manga they're still bad but not "Muwahahaha I'll shoot the injured women Hahahaha!" bad . The Nebraskas have some semblance of honor here.

I guess this is why TriStamp has a much more nuanced presentation of these characters. It's closer to the manga.

Junior is established to be huge - a giant. He always take up so much space in the panels/pages like below:

However, when Vash finally "duelled" them seriously. Doesn't Junior suddenly "feels" smaller and Vash really big?

It's really cool how it instantly shows that Vash isn't goofing off anymore and the Nebraskas stand no chance in winning this.

Ngl. The line work here gave me Junji Ito vides for some reason. Vash's eye look haunting, cold, and really old.

Linework carrying hard on this page. Vash is obviously quicker with how much lines are there in his entire arm - convincingly too fast of a blur. Meanwhile Junior has less lines which makes his fist less blurry and, therefore, slower.

Clever use of the sound effects in the first panel.

I don't know what the fuck is going on in the second panel. I've been staring at it too long already and I still can't understand except it has something to do with Junior's arm?

Third panel is the crazy detail on Vash's eye. His glasses seem like he is looking at the side. However, on closer inspection, Vash is actually not looking away from the incoming attack.

The following pages is really great at building the tension on how would this duel end. The '98 anime captured it very well!

Also, is it just me or does he always look for opportunities to show off his flexibility and long long legs. Must he really split here?

Oh. Ooooh! So that's what happened!

In '98, this conclusion was given to the bandit in Episode 1. His own enhancements crunching his body until he passed out and lost to Vash. However, they can't exactly rehash this in Episode 5. So, we have the "LOVE AND PEACE!" scene instead.

Admittedly, I prefer the "LOVE AND PEACE" conclusion more.

I like how, so far imo, Nightow just gives no fucks about anatomy in his art. I mean... Look at this! Even if we reason that it's because his coat is dramatically billowing with the wind, Vash's body is not proportionate. However, it doesn't matter! It looks cool and it evokes the right emotions just fine: fear and awe.

OMFG?!!! The trials these two are going through! These poor insurance ladies! Milly hanging on for dear life to that pillar. Meryl just screaming her lungs out EVEN WITH A MEGAPHONE!

AND IT WAS FOR NOTHING!!!! OML

Being considered as someone equivalent to a natural disaster shouldn't bring joy, but damn it... LOOK AT HOW HAPPY VASH IS!!! AWWW BABY GIRL!!!

In '98, it's funny and amusing. Ditto on TriStamp. But this one is sweet since Meryl and Milly kinda saved Vash in here.

I mean. Yeah, the townspeople are scared because Vash just beat the Nebraskas, but they are desperate for money. Desperation can override fear given enough time. Vash would've been hunted all over again.

I take it back. The insurance ladies climbing up to that bell tower was not for nothing. It was enough to allow Vash a moment to breathe and, as he rejoices, be free (even just for a while).

Wonder what exactly went through Vash's head here. Confusion? Fear? Dread?

Thanks for explaining! Paneling is always fun to study in mangas because they usually follow a 3 or 4 panels which mangakas creatively breakdown to evoke a feeling among readers.

Trigun is interesting because its from the 90's! So, some of the paneling are probably "prototypes" of the crazy ones we'd see in modern mangas.

I guess, Nightow's aiming to make the page very "cinematic" with slo-mo (sparse panels) and hyper focus on details (graphic weight). It draws us readers in to the story more effectively as if we are there too with the townspeople looking at the Humanoid Typhoon.

It was a delightful sight, really.

Nai Saverem, your nervous, nerdy, reserved studying partner with a drink staining his cheeks and jaw, dripping down his jugular and clavicle and down to his open shirt. His lips were drenched with the substance. It’s in your best interest he doesn’t get severely drunk tonight, as you’re going to be the one handling his admittedly cranky ass tomorrow morning.

“Hey- hey, cool it with the drinking. I don’t want you getting hurt.” You walk to see him on the couch, tipsy Vash amused sitting beside him and poking his cheek as Nai waves his hand away. Parties like these usually weren’t his scene, and yours either- the crowd it attracted, the overstimulating noise and really shitty taste in music wasn’t to your liking, but it was meant to commemorate your survival after exams.

And you wanted to spend as much time with your friends and Nai as much as you could, so why not?

“Mmm..” he groaned, head tipped over the back of the couch as he lazily raised the bottle to his lips once more. “Make me,” he sneered, a turn to his lips as he smirked at your bewildered expression.

“I’ve got to have someone to complain to about how this party was mediocre at best, now come on!-“ you swiped the bottle from his hand, his fingers enclosing around your wrist and pulling you towards him.

You’re straddling Nai. You’re straddling Nai. You’re straddling Nai.

His hand drove into the small of your back and pushed you further into him, your body stiff as he took the bottle. Douchey tactic, sleazy tactic, getting you flustered in favor of a drink.

“Dude- seriously?” You tried to tug the drink away and it spilt the couch and your hand, it’s contents no longer neatly kept in the bottle. Not that they were beforehand, considering the damp state of Nai’s shirt and neck. The music boomed around you two, although it didn’t seem to affect him in his dazed state, pulling the drink closer and in return, shifting you in his lap. It felt fucking embarrassing and unprofessional in comparison to your usual greetings, gifting each other salutations and banter with fun conversations of the most random topics of passion you two oh so intensely harbored.

Well, you suppose you could say this was a type of passion. A lot more debaucherous kind of one.

His alluring, hooded gaze looked up at you, frost blue eyes peeking through his snowy lashes. Fuck, even when he’s wasted he’s gorgeous. Unfair.

“And why,” he clears his throat, a breath escaping him, “why do you care so much? You fret over me, and it isn’t your,” hiccup, “Duty to watch over me.” Fair. Very fair.

“..because..” he won’t remember tomorrow, right? “Who else watches over you?”

“This idiot.” His head gestures lazily to Vash, no longer beside him but dancing amidst the crowd. It’s hard to miss him with his bright clothing and recognizable height. You scoff, “As if he won’t be severely hungover tomorrow.” He always bit off more than he could chew.

“I’m your.. your friend Nai. Let me take care of you.” Your voice is soft in comparison to your prior statements, the words feeling far too vulnerable to be tossed into the air of an open room such as this, but he doesn’t seem to mind. Not when he’s like this.

His hands on your waist tug you closer once again, “Mm, ok.” Before his cool, alcohol imbued lips press against yours. The bottle he’s holding is pressed to your back, half of his hand grasping your back in the meantime. Menial traces of his tongue and the messy meeting of lips almost draws you in before the harsh press of the bottle tugs you into the reality of the situation-

“No, no-“ you shake your head adamantly as you pull away, “You’re drunk. No.” You reaffirm, breath shaky. Are you a shitty person for enjoying that? If he remembers, he’ll probably recoil in disgust at the memory and your person as a whole.

No! No, you’re not. He fucking twisted your words into something.. something they weren’t. Well, not that you didn’t feel like that- did you? But that definitely wasn’t what you meant in the moment.

“Just.. just stop, ok?”

His hands fall to his sides as he shoves the bottle onto the coffee table behind you, moving you out of the way to make his way to Vash. He probably plans on calling an Uber back to their condo soon, you think.

He gives you no acknowledgment as he leaves once again.

Gonna make a post about Wolfwood too because I think it's super duper cute that he's angrily trying to fight Vash's way at the start because he doesn't wanna have to fight with Vash over it again

and even though he tries so hard to fight Vash's way he fails to actually follow through with this belief because what he's fighting is completely unreasonable

Seriously, what the fuck is going on here, how did they even manage to make a cyborg this gross?? Is one of the nine dudes in the hand or do the fingers have cameras in it??? Wolfwood just cannot catch a break in this fight, the only time luck is on his side is when the Insurance Crew shows up (there's probably a lesson he and Vash both should learn from that, but I digress...)

And of course he's expecting a fight with Vash for what he's done Vash is like "No it's cool :). Thank you for helping me Woowoo, I'm sorry if I made you feel guilty and I'm glad you could pull the trigger :)" (of course Vash is probably just incredibly relieved that he's alive and doing okay lmao)

And of course he does the totally relatable™️ thing, which is "pick a fight over something else because you were raring for a fight but it turns out there was never a fight to begin with and now you got nothing else to do with your wounded pride"

Luckily he gets to commiserate over this with Luida lmao

as it turns out, apparently wolfwood was enough. and in this, trigun has officially cemented itself in my soul for forever.

I really like the part  where Meryl and Milly came for Vash, especially when Vash was on Meryl’s lap. (◕∀◕) Like, seriously, Vash needs some comfort and a break! They’re also trying their best to communicate with the plants and I think it’s working? I dunno, humans treated badly for lots of years so they’re very upset about that, but cool feathers are falling! I wonder how that glasses guy gonna deal with Knives?

Palimpsest [Trigun '98 - Post Show - Vash x Meryl]

There are days, here and there, when Meryl wakes up, and there is a well of tears, sealing her eyes shut. There will be the promise of a migraine later.

But for now, her face is wet. The memory is so fresh sometimes, on that cusp of sleep and waking up-- that she can smell the deep canyon dust and nightfall. She can remember the feeling of dangling her legs off the cliffside, a million separate stars above her.

Her hand, so close to his on the ground, that she could reach over and grab it. But instead, they simply sat, on a precipice above an out-of the-way town where no one would ever look for them.

You could stay here as long as you like.

That sounds good--he said, what seemed like a million years ago--Might not be such a bad idea.

There were so many mornings that started hard this way. Her body pulled away from the one moment she wanted to linger in the most.

On those days, she'd roll over on her bed and cry as quietly as possible until first light peered through her slatted window.

Milly had the good grace, thank heavens, to give her some extra time to get herself together.

Today, Meryl couldn't battle the puffiness of her eyes, so she smoothed her hair down and splashed her face with ice water from the basin.

She dabbed a washrag rag along her jaw, her chest, the inside of her arms.

The cool trickle of water on her chest evened out her heartbeat. Slowly, her body started to calm, her senses returning to the present.

I'm awake, I'm here, I've got important work that needs to be done.

Meryl went through the mantra again, tapping the tips of her fingers against the bones in her ribcage, just like Milly had shown her how to do when she felt a panic attack coming on.

She tried to push her body out of the exhausted anxiety she'd woken up with. She didn't have time for this.

All of that was years ago, and they had a major breakthrough coming down the pipeline on the Frangelene Twin disappearances. Her biggest concern right now was following up on ledes in town before their editor started sending in apoplectic telegrams.

Meryl bit back a sigh as she buttoned up the toggles on her coat. If she thought insurance management was grating--she was seriously underprepared for journalism, and the type of sleepless, deranged personalities that tended to bring out.

She slipped into her boots and dreamed of crawling back under the sheets, waiting until this case, and the impending dust storm had blown over. Maybe she and Milly could go back to the country and wait tables in some honky-tonk, and never have to worry about anything past their front door ever again.

She pulled her bedroom door open and heard Milly fiddling with the radio downstairs. The speakers jumped between snatched voices coming in choppily off the airwaves.

Sources--last actual sandstorm this large--area was approximately five years ago. Officials adivise all residents to--inside--as possible--

"Gosh, I really am sorry, I thought we'd get better reception than this," Milly apologized, and there was a clatter of movement and a light dragging of furniture.

A voice answered her, but she couldn't make out who, or what was being said.

Her forehead furrowed, making her way quietly downstairs. Who was visiting this early in the morning? On the eve of a sandstorm?

"I really thought she'd be up by now," Milly continued, moving around the room, "Her porridge is going to get cold."

"Oh well I'm always happy to have another helping, that sure was delicious Miss Milly," the voice answered.

Meryl's heart skipped a beat as she quietly padded towards the kitchen. She was imagining things. Stress playing tricks on her. It had been years, and truth be told, it was easy to forget a voice. Easy enough to hear what you wanted to hear.

She pushed through the kitchen door, readying herself for another random grifter she'd have to shoo off, or the postman with an irate letter from the home office.

Instead, Vash the Stampede sat casually at the end of the kitchen table, pouring himself coffee. The early morning light coming through the kitchen window was red-orange, the storm only a few miles off from town.

Vash's coat was folded politely over the back of the chair, and he sat, facing the kitchen door with his coffee cup, like he was waiting.

For her to come downstairs.

"Look who I found at the market this morning," Milly said brightly, pouring Meryl a cup of coffee.

"Mr. Vash," Meryl managed, trying not to feel like she was dreaming again. Out of place and time.

"Hey Meryl," he smiled, his eyes a warm, honeyed blue. There was overgrown scruff along his jaw, but he looked otherwise unchanged.

His smile was so warm as she sat down that she didn't have time to register his informality. After a small sip of coffee, she paused. How many times had he called her by just her name?

Milly put a warmed plate of thick-cut bacon onto the table. Meryl's favorite. She felt a bribe coming on.

"Mr. Vash came into town a bit later than expected by steamer, and it looks like all the rooms in town are booked up." She sat down and finished up her own remnants of breakfast. "I told him it'd be no problem if he stays with us while the storm passed through tonight."

"Oh really?" Meryl swallowed it all down, in between bits of bacon.

"Yep, we've got an extra room, and I figured it's no skin off our nose," she replied.

Meryl's eyes slid back over to Vash, who was already beginning to pout, looking hopefully at her.

She sighed, pulling another piece of bacon onto her plate. A concession. "Fine. As long as we still manage to send back some eyewitness reports before this weekend. No distractions until then."

Milly clapped her hands together in delight.

"Yes ma'am!" Vash saluted, before digging into the remainder of the bacon.
