All For The Bit
okay so, bear with me here
When Trigun came into the world the typical shonen protagonist was the loudmouth cheery guy who shouted a lot about friendship, generally had a lot of feelings and wasn't too bright but they had HEART
And this was kind of Vash's Bit in the manga and '98 anime. This is the role he presented himself in. Not an entirely false personality, often exaggerating his own traits, but still a deliberate choice. He's modeled after the harmless, nonthreatening Loudmouth.
Now we come to present day. Now the prevalent shonen protag tends to be The Wimp. Soft-spoken, the ultimate doormat, essentially decent and kind but weak-willed. Earnest, but no one takes them seriously. Eager to please. Belittles themself.
*looks pointedly at Trigun Stampede Vash*
Vash has updated The Bit. He now presents himself as The Wimp because that is the common type of protagonist in recent times. That is the type of protagonist viewers will be most familiar with. He's not like 90s Vash because he is 20s Vash, he's this generation's Vash.
I have no idea if Orange did this deliberately but I think it's cool. It's a new show made by a new generation of creators who want to tell new stories about characters they love.

When we see Vash's flashback at the start of episode 8, we get this shot of his and Nai's footprints. They're paired up, parallel to each other, but only Vash is visible in frame.
A similar situation happens in the episode before, with Livio, and his want to 'catch up' with Wolfwood. But there, we get this shot instead, symbolizing Wolfwood's willingness to stop on his path to wait for his brother, to keep walking side by side.
Knives, however has no such patience. There is no room for weakness, and for all his talk of protecting Vash, if he has to leave his brother behind?
So be it.

I can't sleep.
Did knives ever try to communicate with his plant sisters on what they wanted? Did he ever ask them what made them happy?? What was his plan past freeing plants from humans because it doesn't look like he was improving the quality of their lives past not sending into a Last Run but what would an improvement on their lives look like??
Do the Plants even know what they want? They must, from the sparse glimpses we get from their perspectives.
Am I focusing on the wrong things in trigun lmao

Imagine Vash getting teleported to the Devil May Cry universe and he meets Nero. And like, the first thing he noticed is Nero's right arm and he's like: "WOAH! Your arm is so cool! Who made it?"
Then that leads to Nero taking Vash to Nico's van and shows Vash all the collection of arms he use and and he allows Vash to try every single one because he's fascinated by Nico's creation.
And Nico sneaks up to Nero and whispers: "Ayo, why that guy sound exactly like you? (Hint hint nudge nudge 😉)"

No wait, a flower shop definitely.
Nai could bring Vash there to cheer him up from a bad day. It'd be great, and then wolfwood sees Vash for the first time, but like Shouya, doesn't really interact with him.
