Alright, Rak set a Single Boundary that I'm sure he will later be punished for daring to speak or set or request. Can't wait. Because that is 100% how this show has gone so far. Rak tries to set a boundary, Mut breaks it, Rak apologizes for daring to have feelings outside of love or lust.

The only upside is that, this time, Rak has a lock Mut doesn't have a key for.

Just me, waiting.

But also, like, didn't they have a tearfelt love confession and now it's just... off the table and gone? What? This show just goes back and forth on emotions like no one's business and I don't get it at all. One second it's a teary and honest love confession and then it's... whatever happened here with Rak denying love again.

Y'all, did they not read their own script? Did they put it in a different order!? Were they... not looking at how these scenes were going to go?! What is going on!?

See, again, this makes no sense with last week's episode. None. Absolutely none. Not even a little bit. What!?

I am so frustrated by the narrative of this show. It's entirely about Rak setting a boundary and Mut immediately telling him it doesn't matter and the show going 'how dare you set a boundary, that's wrong.' Sigh.

Every, single. time.

At least it's unlikely that Mut will break into Rak's room this episode but I'm counting down to him just pushing the door open and reading his diary.

There's just no emotional through line at this point in either relationship. Vi and Mook make no sense in terms of where they are in their relationship and Rak and Mut just whip back and forth crossing and uncrossing emotional lines like they don't matter. And that's frustrating.

It's the anti-boundary, anti-growth show. I think the show is basically saying the Vi and Mut are perfect and that Rak and Mook just need to get on their level and it's just... there.

It makes no sense! We had the teary eyed begging to stay with him and promising not to go and then paying large sums for him to come and confessions of loving and just... nothing? Nothing? And whatever Vi and Mook are doing makes no sense at all. Sigh.

These folks watched a whole ass movie not realizing the main character was transgender and it was a 2 second kiss between men that made them lose their ever-loving minds.

It's amazing to me that if it weren't for those 2 seconds, many of these folks would have given this movie a 4 or 5 star review. But two seconds of the most vanilla, non-sexy, yet genuine and loving kiss somehow ruined every moment of enjoyment the previous 90 minutes brought them.

Imagine if they realized the trans allegory. I wish I had a way to tell them. I wish I had a way to make them realize they related to a trans character. That they rooted for them. That they accidentally empathized with a trans story.

This was a beautiful movie. In every sense. I really hope between this and Spider-Verse, we can have a moratorium on every 3D animated movie using this style of character design.

It's time to let go of the rubber toy look.

I love Toy Story, but its success kind of doomed 3D animation to never take any risks. I thought maybe it was just a limitation of the medium, and perhaps it was for a time... but after seeing Love Death + Robots and Arcane...

I realized they can make 3D animation look however the hell they want now.

The rubber people were just risk avoidance.

"That's what people are used to and so we're sticking with it."

But the real beauty of Nimona was the story. I won't spoil it but the plot is pretty much, "If you get to know a trans person, you probably won't hate them anymore."

Not knowing any trans people is one of the biggest factors in anti-trans bigotry. And so this movie uses allegory to let an audience get to know a trans person. And you get to experience someone slowly start to understand what it is to be trans from an outside perspective.

It's sad that will probably be lost on those folks above because all they will remember is the kiss. Seriously, it was such a harmless, mundane, blink-and-you-miss-it kiss. But I'm hoping that others will take the lesson of this movie to heart. That you should get to know people before you judge them.

Part of me does wish we could tell trans stories without allegory. That we could just have overt trans characters. But I think this is the best representation possible right now.

It's crazy that Supergirl was one of the bravest shows as far as modern trans representation. It wasn't an edgy HBO drama trying to push boundaries. It was a family-friendly superhero show and they were just like, "Here is a transgender woman with superpowers and it's fine." And I loved that it was part of the character but it wasn't all the character was. Though I think they just missed the manufactured "moral panic" window where that choice would have been extremely controversial causing boycotts of Warner Bros. and whatnot.

My only complaint about Nimona was a small penis joke. It went by very quickly and many may even miss it. But I was surprised to see it in this movie in particular. Especially since those jokes can have collateral damage toward trans folks. With all of the positive messages, wasting a joke on body shaming was a tad disappointing. I mean, it was a fairly lighthearted "Is it cold in here?" joke. I don't want to make it sound worse than it was. But it still registered on my Richter scale of things that bother me.

Anyway, I wholeheartedly give Nimona a 5 out of 5. It helped me understand my friends on a deeper level and it was warm and funny and entertaining. There was a scene at the end that was so beautiful and heart-wrenching and I was crying my eyes out. The animation and the symbolism and the acting were just so perfect.

It's a shame Disney tried to kill this movie. But I am so glad it was allowed to exist despite that.

(About that last anon) I'm tired of people trying to play white knight for Native's (First Nations). It's not racist to draw a fetishizer wearing brownface. Others may find it offensive but at the end of the day it is making fun of Lily.

I want to be charitable here and say, I respect the fact that there's a fine line here and I acknowledge I'm dancing close to it. Not to make this blog sound more high minded than it is, but, that's kind of the thing with comedy. Getting close to the boundary between funny and offensive without going over it-- which, you know, fuck ups happen you have to take responsibility for. Can't be a little bitch about it.

The internet is both a somewhat uniquely hostile place for comedy in the way platforms encourage knee-jerk, bad faith, inflammatory responses and the ways in which fuckface pissbaby grifters can monopolize that environment to hide away from genuine criticism.

I spoke about this before, I made the decision to redirect my jokes towards my "Liquid Orcard" character, pretending to be human as the punchline rather than her specifically pretending to be First Nations. You know, just to put a little distance between my jokes and the genuinely harmful rhetoric around blood quantity discourse-- just to make sure they're reading right.

But like, there's landmines everywhere. There always is. Lily is a trans woman, and portraying a trans woman as an inhuman creature could also be twisted into being transphobic. That's not okay inherently in every context either.

Lily knows this. This is her bread and butter. This is the basis of her whole dog and pony show.

Just pointing out the fact that she's had a history of predatory behavior, can't be trusted around minors, has a history of abusing her partners, etc. could be twisted into a transphobic and racist attack.

I've SEEN it used as a genuine transphobic attack against her and by association, the trans community as a whole (which Lily never says shit about, I'd like to point out. Sabine, who also pretends to be POC online when they're really white, has called Lily a "pedophilic troon." She apparently doesn't give a fuck when it's them.) Because what Lily actually looks like has been public knowledge for as long as she has I've never really seen anyone take the claim she's POC seriously for obvious reasons, but I'm sure if she was, there'd be genuine racist shit online about her too.

I want to make it clear I'm not implying Lily is ALSO pretending to be trans. I believe in gender equality-- men, women and enbies alike can be shitheels. We can all respect her gender identity while pointing out she's a right-wing, basement dwelling, anti-social, absolute high priestess of goonfunery.

But she knows she can hide behind the smokescreen of genuine transphobic whinging. She knows she can cry racism if she sticks to the lie her white ass has experienced discrimination from being visibly of colour. Dare I say, she's subtly encouraged it. The fucked shit about bigotry is that it enables anti-social behavior for minorities aswell in certain circumstances. The fucking victims of oppression are always people who want to be a pro-social, positive, productive member of society. Who have to fight for the right to live their fucking lives as honestly as possible. This is the design of the industrial machine.

It's not a totally invalid question to ask in all circumstances. And though it's hard for me to always . . . Totally empathize with, I get the internet allows access to people who come from, let's say, more sheltered environments to see things they don't have full context for. As a trans person myself amd for the sake of my POC family members, in today's political climate, I'd encourage people to have a healthy skepticism against the kinds of things Lily is being accused of. Within reason. It's fucked, but this is the shit-pit grifters and outrage merchants put I all in.

But like, if you know who Lily is already, you know it's 100% a valid fucking thing to take the piss out of her for. The context tracks. And, with all do respect, the reason why that other anon thought there was a difference between just stating Loly is doing brownface and an image making fun of Lily for doing brownface is because humor gives it a bit more of a punch.

Yea so after my previous post about every interaction was a minor and one on a unrelated post, honestly I'm annoyed and disappointed. I can understand like a art post mistakes happen, but on a post basically explaining to not interact is just insulting.

I'm groaning at all the creators I see saying things like, "My fandom better not ship X&Y once I have my show/book/comic/etc come out!" Before, I just rolled my eyes, but seeing some indie creators now interacting with their fandom and some even telling their fandom they "shouldn't ship X or draw nsft of [their] characters," which ends up fueling antis in those fandoms... what used to be a hard boundary between creators and their fans has been eroding for a while, and it makes me uncomfortable. And some of these creators (if they haven't already) are just going to find out what it's like having their own fanpol turn on them for whatever "sin" they dared to commit with their own characters. If someone doesn't like the idea of someone shipping their sibling characters or their mentor and mentor characters, then I don't want to sound mean but... they just need to get over it. One of my friends went through this worry, knowing people will want to ship their character and the villain, who possesses their sibling for part of the story. It squicks them out, but they know there isn't anything they can do about it, but it was something they had to come to terms to, and more creators are going to need to come to terms with that, too, and I really hope they do.

What you said sound so interesting about Jungkook having edges. It's so true and seriously if I discuss with someone they call me anti. I think above all relationships Jungkook is his own person and values his space. I have seen him backing out with Taehyung too where he needs his space. When they were kids i think it was because he got overwhelmed with too much attention and space invasion nw i think it's because he sometimes doesn't know how to react. Observe how he initiates something with Tae and when Tae responds he'll smile but he'll make space. It's really funny he does that a lot in presence of cameras. However, I seem him gravitating towards Taehyung too when is least focused on cams.

The topic here is Jungkook and his edges. I have seen other things too but I would love to hear your opinion on this. I want to make this clear to other people reading this post is written with best of intentions and discussing people's edges is not an anti behaviour. They are what makes us beautiful.

Mmm, people are so easy to attack when something seemingly negative is being discussed. Edges aren't a negative thing though. The are the boundaries and the extremities to our characters. Literally everyone has them. Some edges are sharper than others, and are therefore perceived to be more harmfull. I think it's allright to discuss these things. Idol's are humans, and allowing recognition of their edges aids in us understanding them more.

In Jk's case I think his competitive nature and his perfectionism, at times makes him a bit harsher (not even in a bad way) in judging others 'failure". I think he has really learned to reel himself in though. One moment I felt was really showing his growth in that was this:

You can kinda see a hint of disbelief/annoyance, but he quickly realizes that it's a funny moment as well. This competitive and perfectionist side made him harsh on himself too. We've seen Jk cry out of frustration and disappointment when he thought his performance wasn't good enough, while all the members told him he did fine, and that he could even go less hard at times.

Another one of Jk's edges which played in the past is his possesive side. Instances of Jk having a hard time sharing have been discussed. Petty arguments about a banana/fruit basket. And I think Jk has a possiveness about persons as well. We can see jealousy in him over Tae. But this is also something he has learned to deal with. And I don't think this is much of a deal these days.

In regards to Jimin and Jk's edges, I was pointing out that Jk doesn't like being babied. He likes being cared for, but he does not much like the pointing out of him being the youngest. Jk has had to grow up faster than normal teens. Living away from your parents and traing hard to become an idol will do that for you, even if you have six hyungs around. So to Jk himself, he was feeling rather adult and responsible compared to people his age (that he also came in contact with at school). So if Hyungs (especcially those close in age like Jimin) started to baby him, he did not like that. He must've been fickle at times about it I think. On one hand relying on his Hyungs much, but on the other hand trying to claim some sort of independence. Jimin likes being the older brother though, so I feel that clashed at times in the beginning. The rainy day situation to me points to a clashing in that area. I think Tae and Jk had less of that, because Tae is less hung up on the hyung situation. Even though Jk might've not wanted to drop honorifics at first.. I feel their relationship started to level out sooner than Jimin and Jk's relationship.

I agree that Jk gets overwhelmed at times and needs his own space to get back to himself. I think Jk processes a lot of sensations at all times. He is very into his feelings and other peoples moods affect him too. In an already hecktic industry like the entertainment business, this can be a lot! It has little to do with age though. I am 41 one and I still get drained after eventfull or emotional days. It's more like.. engaging with emotions and senstions slowly takes the energy out of you. Your battery kinda dies and the only way to get your energy back is to be alone for a while. So when Jk is not receptive to other people any more... he just doesn't have the energy to commit himself any longer. I feel Tae is so good at dealing with this. He oftentimes just let's Jk know he's there by placing a hand on him, but doesn't expect any reaction at all. It takes knowing someone on a dee[p level to understand this, especcially if the feeling is foreign to you. Introverts know this feeling, but to extraverts this is hard to understand, because they get energy from social interactions. This is where I feel the hurt that can be seen in Jimin when Jk resists him came from in the beginning. He didn't understand Jk's reaction and saw it as a personal rejection, which is not what it was.

I don't know if this is something that he does specifically when there's camera's. I think our perception of that is off, because there's way more footage of them on camera and in comparison less of them in the background. But, being on camera probably drains energy from Jk faster than when he's not on camera.

All in all I think edges are just a part of someones personallity. It doesn't make them bad or anything, it's the way they deal with those edges that should matter the most and I think Jk has learned to manage his edges beautifully.

I know Tumblr trads have grilled you on modesty a few times in the past but if you have a more nuanced take on how it fits in with avoiding sexualization but also avoiding body shame I'd like to hear it

I definitely don't think anyone who wants to avoid sexualization, or even who's personally concerned about not giving a potentially tempting or distracting show to other people without projecting that concern onto everyone else, should avoid covering up just to own the trads or prove some contrarian anti-Modesty Culture point. I don't have those concerns and neither do most of my closest friends, but I do know people who do and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having that as a personal boundary. What I maintain is that those worries would have less occasion to arise in particular situations if in general we didn't live in a society and in a time in history that gets unusually hysterical about certain body parts ever being exposed in nonsexual contexts. I can think of at least one such body part (the breasts, as used nonsexually for their primary function of feeding small children) regarding which this is such a widespread sentiment that I rarely see anyone seriously argue against it, and yet somehow the bizarre prurience and hypocrisy sticks around. In some places it's even spreading to societies that used to not have it (Southern France, some other parts of Europe like Italy and Germany, large chunks of Africa) due to American mass-media influence, which is just depressing.

I absolutely hate how in all of Steve's ships, he always gets the short end of the stick, canon, and fanon alike. Like Steve canonically just wants to be loved. It's shown how much he desires it and how much love he has to give towards his partners (like in s2 where he wanted to build his life around Nancy). And yet people take him and put him into borderline abusive situations, where he constantly gets belittled or made fun of. His dreams of having a big family are laughed at and not taken seriously, when his entire character in ST revolves around love and found family. I'm just so sick of it. Nobody in fanon truly has Steve's back when he gets into relationships. Robin acts ooc in favor of her own relationship or sides with Eddie idk why.

Stonathan after s2 doesn't make much sense either. Like from both povs. Jonathan still doesn't like Steve, which fine he doesn’t have to take his apology in s1. He hates what Steve stands for (he's judging him based on popularity) and for being Nancy's ex. Steve feels neutral towards him after s1, but then Jonathan willingly cheated with Nancy. I doubt he wants to date him after that. They are not friends, and the basis of their relationship would be Nancy bc they are both romantically involved with her, which isn't a strong enough foundation imo. I know they are aus where none of that happens, but I can't really look past it. Maybe I lack creativity and imagination.

Anyway, I don't ship Steve with anyone because the fandom doesn't get him and puts him into the worst situations. I only ship him with my very own OC, who would kill anyone with Robin if they would disrespect him in the way the fandom does lmao. But yeah, I usually don't ever read any shipping fics bc they are usually ooc. I only love to read Stobin fics or any fics with the kids and his sibling relationships with them.

The Imperfect Proposal Review.

I will never understand a book that hasn't resolved the conflict on the Blurb by halfway.

What am I reading for?

Just to watch him get repeated reveange on her while her friends justify it with actions that were supposed to be moved on from?

I just read a story where the main character establishes in the first chapter that he has had years and years od experience in keeping boundaries with his women. Literally ten years of it.

The second chapter establishes that he has enough comfort in his own boundaries that he's able to phone the police and move house and be open and honest with his family with said boundaries.

The triple kick is that he has enough knowledge of his own boundaries that he's able to neglect the apparent love of his life after shes been stabbed when he got himself involved in that situation to begin with.

SO the hero, Shay Green has boundaries.

Right?

No.

Midway through the book we need to make a "omg wouldn't my life look so boring and rather than show you this, I will show you what you are not" character in there.

The make over doesn't work on the flighty non conformer unless she's very young, so that's a nice teenage fairytale, maybe don't make her in her 30s.

But yes, the social grouping is still socially tolerating and encouraging that he barter with the response to trauma she made in her youth.

He doesn't even have the excuse of youth when he pretends emotional recovery isn't a thing and centers himself on it when he committed to helping her then turned his back.

She wrote to him all the time, he chose to deliberately hide his life from Social Media so that if she did look, she wouldn't know.

Its the same kind of ex that blocks you until he hears your status updated.

The heroine completely changes character too. Instead of wanting somethinf new and fresh per the character that was created she settles for conforming to what he wanted way in the beginning, even though it made her sick and flighty to begin with.

She is watching friends blow up and hes sleeping around.

To hold that over her head when you disconnected from it enough as well is sick and misogynistic.

Would have been nice to see that he had long term commitments to not control her pain and his but instead hes still unregulated at the end of the book.

Because the Emotionally unskilled need something at the end to show you how bad her life wouldn't be instead of showing us how good it will be.

I don't think the author understood the conflict she was setting up. Issues of dysphoria, like Thea acted out are not cleared up by "getting even".

Typical patriarchial response and misrepresenting a harmful morality scale.

Overall, Full Meta Jackrick was decent. I liked it. It's not a personal favorite, but I won't mind it when I eventually rewatch the series. I just had the same problem with this episode that I did with the previous installment, Never Ricking Morty: it's not bad, but it's just...there? Meta episodes don't go anywhere because they CAN'T go anywhere. They're just twenty minutes of "Check it out, we're characters in a TV show!"

Still, I think this episode did a decent job of leaning into the meta without ruining the show. I was a little worried that Morty would realize that he's in a TV show and the entire universe would fall apart as he and Rick deconstruct everything, and then we'd have to act like nothing happened in the next episode. Luckily, Full Meta Jackrick didn't push the show's boundaries too far.

But yeah, I thought this episode was a little...pointless? It avoided cliches for the most part, but it also didn't say anything new. It wasn't a groundbreaking deconstruction of Rick and Morty or TV shows as a whole. It was just another take on the "Rick knows that he's in a TV show" concept, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it left me going "What was the point of that?"

The episode looked like it might have an anti-capitalist message with the Rick plushies, but that didn't really go anywhere, either. However, that might be a good thing--a preachy statement would've weighed down the episode even if I agree with it.

Full Meta Jackrick had a little more substance than Never Ricking Morty because at least we watched "our" Rick and Morty go on an adventure. I enjoyed watching an episode with just the two of them again. Their dynamic is brilliant--EVERYTHING that Rick and Morty do together is entertaining.

The first half of season six was great, but the episodes felt a little "off" because Morty didn't have much to do in most of them. Now, he's finally stepping back into the protagonist role.

Bringing back Story Lord (and Jesus) and writing a follow-up to Never Ricking Morty in general is a little gutsy and unexpected, which I can respect. Did anyone think that we'd ever hear anything about that train again? Never Ricking Morty isn't particularly loved or reviled--it's just an experimental episode that we probably would've forgotten about if it didn't foreshadow the season five Birdrick reveal.

For me, Full Meta Jackrick is a slightly better version of Never Ricking Morty because it's canon and has a more cohesive storyline. Full Meta Jackrick, like all of season six, also has great callbacks to the first couple of seasons. They never feel pandering or like they're trying to trigger your nostalgia--instead, they poke fun at the series itself and show you that the writers really care about this universe.

I also thought that this might've been the funniest episode of the season. Gotta be honest, guys--I normally roll my eyes when people say "Rick and Morty isn't funny anymore blah blah," but season six is the first season where I'm like "Yeah, the jokes haven't been great." But this episode had a lot of funny lines.

We did get some great character moments with Rick and Morty. Rick's still Rick: he's lazy, crabby, selfish and rude. But he's gentler with Morty, too. He treats him like a person and partner (in crime) instead of hoarsely shouting at him. He looks out for him and gives him his lab coat when they're freezing--boy, THAT'S been a fandom staple for nearly a decade.

This might be a stretch, but the scene in the garage caught my attention, too. Rick gently turns on Morty's goggles for him--you know, like an actual grandfather--instead of telling him to do it and then yelling that he's too slow or whatever.

This is seriously the fanservice season. Rick in a suit and tie yet again, Rick draping his lab coat over a shivering Morty, Rick tearing off his clothes to reveal that he's jacked underneath (I guess he's still working on those abs? lol.) The new writers' influence is so blatant, and I don't think most of us are complaining.

And we saw Rick's favorite thing yet again: crystals. 💎✨ (Well, ore.) Someone needs to give him $100 and cut him loose in a New Age store for a couple of hours.

I also want to note how much I love Justin Roiland's voice acting. Rick's voice is so complex and reflects his character development brilliantly. I hate how people dismiss Justin Roiland as a shouty guy who burps and yells into the microphone. Honestly, I don't hear Justin Roiland at all when Rick speaks--I just hear Rick.

Overall, Full Meta Jackrick was a decent return to the show after the six-week break. Those "Rick is a nihilist" YouTube videos need to go away forever because this episode's theme could have been "Nothing matters, we're just cartoon characters, blah blah," but it wasn't. Instead, Rick tells Morty that his life matters, and he looks at the audience as he says it.

Okay, but seriously, the answer is long and complicated, so strap in for this salty ride.

My #1 issue with Ragnarok isn't that it's a horrible movie, but rather that it's a horrible movie within the framework of the MCU. There are many casual Marvel viewers who don't care about the continuity or tone of the larger series, and that's perfectly okay! Ragnarok is probably a very entertaining film for many of those folks.

However, I am not one of those people. I do care (or, rather I did lol) about the hot mess that is the MCU. And Ragnarok just fucked all the characters from the Thor series sideways, along with Bruce. Nobody seemed to notice because it was flashy and fun and lighthearted! The perfect cure to the first two Thor movies, which were dull as dirt except for Loki, if we're gonna be totally honest.

Taika Waititi has been extremely open about the fact that he did not give a flying fuck about the existing canon and that he hates Loki. He was there to make his movie with no regard to the fact that it's within a goddamn series, and it has to make sense beyond its own 2 hours. He's also ableist and sexist af, arguably anti-Black wrt Tessa Thompson, violates his actors' boundaries on set, and generally has an ego the size of Jupiter. But nobody wants to talk about that :))))

Ragnarok is a tonal mess. Serious moments are given no room to breathe, and the humor kneecaps itself because it's overdone. I mean, when Asgard is destroyed--we're talking about the total annihilation of Thor's home planet--we get about 5 seconds to absorb that before somebody cracks a joke. I felt more about the destruction of Asgard while watching Loki learn of it (in the Loki show) from reading a file than I did while watching it actually happen on screen in Ragnarok.

Love and Thunder is currently getting panned for overused humor that undercuts the stakes of the movie, a predictable but poorly executed plot, empty character arcs, and failure to deliver the significant queer rep we were promised. Which totals up to a completely skippable chapter of the MCU.

All of that applies to my feelings about Ragnarok! So, that's my beef a;sdkfjiertj;aslkdfj
