Meeting knockout was probably the only thing that came first to street racing when it comes to burning some adrenaline off along with the rubber of your tires as you raced against him.
You thought that the sleek red car was just a normal driver, is in very fact, not. A normal driver, but a decepticon medic who apparently treats his main craft as a side job from how much he doesn’t take it seriously, unlike some certain medic on the opposite faction that knockout doesn’t see optic to optic with
What rendered knockout into helping you and revealing his bipedal form for to you is something he can’t quite place a servo on, “can’t have my favorite racer fall off on the rocks bellow” knockout snickered as he used all of his frame weight to pull your car as you were in that was about to fall off the edge of the road because of malfunction you’ve had in your transmission line system that could have cost you your life.
After that day knockout used that incident as an excuse to pop up whenever and wherever he likes, visiting a family member?, he’s parked right up the street, just finished your shift?, he’s parked in all of his red glory infront of your workplace. You’ve tried to tell him that you don’t need him to worry about you too much!.
But does knockout listens? He’s already turned off his audio receptors until he has to turn them on to defend himself, “but how can you blame me darling?, weren’t you the one who almost flew off with your car thinking it will transform into a fighter jet if it weren’t for me?” He would declaim as always and bringing up the faulty mistake in your car that almost took your life if it weren’t for him.
“Oh don’t be like that dear, you’re in good servos!, I am a doctor!” He would gloat placing his servo on the red finish of his chassis and assuring you of his medical expertise, so what if you are a fleshy organic and his medical license is meant for mechanic cybertronians?, he can always learn about your anatomy in case something does happen to you.
Can you blame the mech?, you give him the ideal challenge, the thrill of something that is different than that of dissecting open a bot’s neuro board array, its also not that his company is bad, you enjoy spending time with him, wether it be racing , going to a drive in theatre or him just complaining about his superiors, especially the rude second in command starscream.
You trusted the authenticity of the stories knockout recounts, to an extent at least, even if he tweaked some parts about how noble and righteous the autobot faction is, and painting an image of morally ambiguous mechs, he won’t just out right tell you that they are the bad guys!, even if they are technically the bad guys if you take account that the decepticons are the ones that started the whole war and cost them their whole planet, you don’t need to know all of that
All you need to do is to not start hating him for something that his faction did, even if he doesn’t take it seriously moreover have any loyalty for their cause or their warlord leader, that was all what knockout had on his processor as he somehow managed to wiggle his way and convince you to stay on the nemesis. “Only for a little while…”
You thought to yourself as knockout was chirping around the warship giddily on his way to Megatron’s throne room and lay his lie to him to get the approval of your stay on the ship by deeming you helpful in their leader’s red optics “do not worry!, I wouldn’t allow you to actually do any of the dirty work!, that’d be too much danger for your fleshy little human body” he would brush your worries off as he waves his taloned servos at you and placing you with delicate care on the table of his medbay.
Your days in the medbay with knockout were actually enjoyable until he had to do some field work cause “apparently I am the only reliable mech with actually common sense on this ship!”, he would yell something like that as he vents loudly and his engine roars angrily before slamming his aft down with scratches all over his beautiful red finish after the autobots “barbarically peeled off my paint!” As he would cuss and demonize them infront of you for ruining the thing he cares most,
“I am telling you!, those cursed autobots are as bad as starscream!, the only difference is that they try to mask it with their so called Nobel values!” He whines to you the time when starscream used one of his talons to scratch his chassis, with your tiny hands meticulously using the rotary buffer to try and fix his finish for him, and who is he to deny such a selfless act of care from you?, and he will drink all of that attention up, like a mech thirsty for energon
Around the time knockout brings shockwave back from cybertron in hopes of a fat raise from the leader of the decipticons, but nope, how naive was knockout to bring the logistics specialist and the mad scientist of the decepticons that only sees through equations and logic, and is now up his aft in the medbay and laboratory trying to bring back an ancient race of transformers!, knockout tries his best to hide you from shockwave’s line of sight
Ever since shockwave’s presence in the laboratory and the medbay a constant thing, it started to piss the medic off real bad this time, Oh how it does press on all of knockout’s wrong buttons, whenever he turns to look over his shoulder he has the see the hulking height of the decipticon’s mad scientist doing primus knows what creatures he tries to bring from the offlined, and invading your’s and knockout’s personal space like some t intimidating, awkward third wheel.
“I don’t even want to know what’s on that singular optical glitch’s processor, just make sure that you’re absolutely out of his way…and stay close to me at all times…” knockout would warn you firmly after picking you up off of the ship’s floor with delicate care in his taloned servos after shockwave was done looking you?, glaring?, analyzing? You down, you were never sure, with his lack of facial expressions it is always unnerving having to raise your head to meet up with his bright red optic studying you down like some specimen he may consider using and cutting open like some lab cattle.
Unicron can swallow what’s left of cybertron’s dead soil before knockout would let shockwave even try and attempt any of his experiments on you, the medic has gotten his fill of having people dear to him being cut open.
That is when knockout decides that leaving you on the nemesis was starting to get on his circuits since Megatron has ordered more on field work for knockout now that shockwave is here and he can take over the lab work that knockout would take on, and he will not leave you on that ship alone with that logic-manic freak, so he decides to take you on mission, as the human factor to blend in and not draw any suspicion, as knockout would glaze to have you with him at all times now,
Until the news of a human working with the decepticons reached the autobots when miko was complaining about how you managed to take her and jack down and tie them down, you were never above hitting teenagers; the autobots make note to sta cautious of you in case the decepticons have brainwashed you into working with them and risking your life for whatever doom plan they have for earth. As they used you like a pawn in their work. As they make a plan to get you from the opposing faction and save you from whatever hell you’re being walked off to.
And that is what they did when they have seen you jump off from knockout’s vehicle mode as he wasted no time getting into his bipedal form to try and steal the relic from the autobots before they could get their servos on it, you make your way to were the autobots had set up their camp to load the camp with explosives in amidst the active war field infront of you as the vehicons blast at the autobots as they try to fight despite being vastly outnumbered, after you had planted the bombs you were met with a very harsh shoulder shove that thrown you on the ground to find the loud girl in space buns trying to sabotage your plan,
“I don’t owe you an explanation kid, you better move away, now. I am not above beating a teenager, again….” You glare at her with animosity in your eyes in hopes of scaring her off away without having to unnecessarily engage in contact with her enemy, her eyes trail on the logo of the decepticons that was branded proudly on the left sleeve of your combat gear, that the decepticons were really having a human ally to help them,
Your legs wastes no time into sprinting out of the autobots camp after planting the bombs to at least waste some of their resources and weapons to hold them back, you run as fast as you can through the battle field of the huge robots blasting at each other as they tower over you and miko who was running after you to try and make you see reason not whatever what the decepticons made you believe.
The ground behind you shakes violently making you press to move on forward and to not look back and to try and find shelter until knockout arrives. As you were running to avoid getting caught into the cross fire; you find the time slows big time as you fall to the ground with that horrible ringing in your ear and the pain that alternates between ache and numbness too fast to realize which one you were feeling, you look behind you hesitantly and to your horror the one who was looming diabolically over you was none other than shockwave.
With his fusion servo cannon pointed at you as it powers down and smoke was going off through the holes on the side of his huge laser barrel, a sharp surge of pain that felt like a stab to your leg, makes you tilt your head down slowly. And up again to were the girl with space buns were as she was on the ground on her butt with a face of pure unsolicited horror before he hands wrapped around her abdomen and the muscles of his stomach spasmed violently at the sight of you in front of her before the contents of her stomach erupted like the sofas can she pranked Jack with earlier that day, the acidic smell and taste made her sick as she had to curl down on the ground fully to prevent looking at you-
It didn’t feel like fire. Not at first. It felt like weightlessness A brief second of surreal confusion before your body crumpled and your world tilted sideways. You hit the ground hard, with only your arm support your upper half, and feeling the air shoved from your lungs—
And then you really looked down. Your legs were gone. Gone. From just above the knees—nothing but cauterized, twitching ends of flesh Not just blown off. Atomized. Your thighs ended in gnarled, wet knots of flesh and shattered bone, jagged femurs sticking out like bloodied stakes. Arteries spasmed and gushed, pulsing out thick spurts of crimson that soaked your clothes and painted the asphalt beneath you.The smell—hot meat, burned hair, iron was what all you could sense around you, followed by the pain, white-hot nerve-shattering, vomit-churning pain
A blood curdling scream scratched its way from your insides upon the gory scene infront of you, were your lower half was supposed to be,where you were supposed to feel something there, a raw animalistic scream that tore through your throat like glass tearing through.
But he was still there. Still walking. Still calm. Still looming above you as if death was made out of metal and cold logic
His massive shadow loomed over you as he approached, cannon idling now—no need to waste another shot. Your mangled body twisted, eyes wide, mouth shaking from how you teeth clanked against one another with broken sobs. “P-please—I wasn’t—I didn’t—” you tried explaining but it was futile as shockwave walked slowly and leisurely towards you body that that you were trying to drag away with your arms across the gravel, sobbing, smearing blood behind you like a brushstroke of horror. You didn’t know what direction you were going—only away. From him
His red optic turned down to were you were laying on the ground seeing how you were trying to move away like some wounded animal that only had survival on their primitive mind, and that is how shockwave looked at you, the mech paid no mind to what you were saying or what excuses you were giving yourself or even the truth you were screaming with your whole body
“No—no—nononono—please—” You sobbed. You begged. Your guts churned, bile climbing your throat. One of your severed femurs twitched, and you nearly vomited at the sight. Behind you—those thunderous, deliberate footsteps. Still there. “SHOCKWAVE!” you screamed, voice shaking violently along with what’s left of your body, as you tried to kick away with legs you no longer had, “I’M LOYAL—I DIDN’T—I DIDN’T HELP THEM—”, but all that fell on offline audio receptors as He tilted his head slightly. Observing. Like a scientist watching a rat’s death throes. Cold. Detached. Analytical.
“Your presence at the enemy’s side during a classified mission rendered your allegiance statistically compromised. This conclusion is not personal. It is logical.” Then he kicked you. His pede collided with your ribs like a battering ram. You heard them break—wet cracks in your chest followed by daggers of white-hot pain. You flipped onto your side, gasping, wheezing, blood bubbling at your lips as your lungs struggled to stay inflated. You reached out. Maybe to crawl. Maybe to fight. Maybe just to beg. And then he stepped on your arm. No warning. No mercy. Just a shift in weight—and agony. You felt everything.
The way the ulna cracked first, like a glass rod, The snap of your radius splintering outward, punching through your skin with a spurt of arterial spray.
The CRUNCH of the elbow joint disintegrating, followed by the warm, pulpy squelch of your muscles turning to paste beneath several tons of Cybertronian weight. Your scream was not human. It was primal. You thrashed, body spasming, eyes wide and bloodshot. You could see your ruined limb—twisted, flayed open, your hand a mangled claw of shredded tendon and shattered bone, still twitching.
“You displayed cooperative behavior toward Autobot personnel. Statistical risk: unacceptable. Logical solution: elimination.” He clinically stated with the sterile tone of his, Shockwave didn’t move. He only pressed harder. You felt the flesh burst, your arm splitting open like overcooked meat, your nerves on fire. The pain wasn’t even pain anymore—it was existence itself. Like a parasite infesting your whole body and eating away at it as you could do nothing but watch as it unfold before your eyes.
You started seeing dark spots in your eyes like nebula as your heartbeat was still going haywire as your brain was feeling numb, as if it was on autopilot. But you were still awake.Still conscious. Still alive—just long enough for Shockwave to lean in close, his single eye glowing like a dying star, his servo went down to were you were laying on the ground and picked you up like some rag doll with the only limb you had left as he walked through the battlefield to were knockout was blasting off the two wheeler fem, shockwave finishes that off for him as he blasted arcee’s servo clean from her frame as she fell down.
“Your assistant was caught helping the autobot faction, I went on with the decepticon code of conduct punishment, the elimination of them is expected of you…” the scientist said coldly as he dumped your bleeding loving corpse into knockout’s servos as his optics widen with, shock, rage, confusion and repulsion, but not at you, oh he would never look at you with such optics, not when you’re in such a state,
His whole red frame shakes from anger and fear as he watched how your battered body was covering his silver servos in the same red of your body as his finish, even with the same glossy finish, knockout transforms into his vehicle form in less that a second as you were strapped down onto his driver seat and coating the fine leather of his with your fluids as he calls for a ground bridge into the medbay asap to save what he can save from what’s left of your body.
“I-…swear I never helped,…t-the autobots…” you weakly mumbled through bloodied lips as you coughed up more crimson goo that was with your spit that rolled down your chin, “I know my dear, you wouldn’t turn your back on me..” knockout comforted through a voice so melodic you would have never thought that the energon inside his body was simmering, both literally and figuratively.
Knockout spends days and weeks working on your body that was strapped to countless medical devices to keep you breathing until he can help you again, he had soundwave break into numerous hospitals to get those life devices cause knockout was not planning to let you go, at all not like this, he was a cybertronian doctor and now he is a human doctor to you now. He built numerous prosthetic limbs for you.
To replace what shockwave took away wrongfully, but never worry, he didn’t let that slide, oh that is not knockout. That day after hooking you up to the life support he rushed his way to the laboratory with the energon shock prod held tightly in his servos to the point it got dented from his talons, that day shockwave went into stasis from having his neuroboard and optic fried completely as the shock prod was left there for him to take out when he comes back online, that is when knockout limps back to you in the medbay with a blasted pede and a job well done, he will have Megatron do the rest to his logistics lieutenant as a compensation for your state.
Weeks of experiments and treatments pass slowly and tauntingly as if mocking knockout as he diligently worked on you to bring you back and give you a second chance again, if there is something he knows about holding people dear to him is that they will get mangled and dismantled no matter the species, let it be human or cybertronian, that is what he realized after he had tore open silas who used breakdown’s corpse as an armor, maybe that is the only thing he learned from him.
And that’s what knockout did, he spent countless nights without recharge as he worked on prosthetics for you limbs as he used cybertronian technology that is way too advanced to what the primitive versions that the humans use, knockout brings the T-cog of that belonged to breakdown as he broke it down to make tinier versions of it and install it to the prosthetics he made you, two legs and an arm,
Of only that was all what he had to work on, you had multiple broken spinal discs and a raptured eye ball that he had to replace with mechanical parts, all of that has almost fried off his circuits!, to the point that starscream himself even felt a little bad and he stayed out of the mad doctor’s way in case he tried to use his servo buzzsaw on his faceplate, or worse dismantle him screw by screw as he is still online and charging.
It has even been days that knockout didn’t bother to care for his finish!, as he was too busy tinkering with your insides to fix the fractured bones that you fragile human body has and to give it an internal metal cast to prevent any future fracturing. Like the ones that your sternum and ribs sustained after that cursed shockwave kicked you like some tin, he had to search for days to find a suitable heart pump since you heart has became too weak and could literally collapse, as knockout’s servos were holding your heart and the faint weak pulse of it against his talons that could easily impale it if it weren’t for his medical precision.
After all of the mods knockout added to your body, he started to wonder what is left of you that is still a human?, even silas had more organic body left when knockout dissected him. The only hope knockout had was the active brainwaves that were still going haywire as if adrenaline was still coursing through your body, but you were still, still like the dead, but knockout knew better, after all megatron himself was in a deep slumbered state with his brain activity still as sharp as his blade.
The medic exists the med bay after checking that you status were stable as he get on the top of the ship were Megatron orders the decepticons as he transforms into his vehicle form and starts speeding and drifting as his tires screech loudly with every sharp turn he takes. Which makes starscream fly to where he is with a deeper frown on his face upon the commotion thinking that it was some random vehicons causing trouble only to find the medic the doing donuts to help himself calm down
The second in command jumps to were knockout is while tapping his heeled pedes impatiently until the red vehicle stops and transforms with an angry and pissed off expression on his faceplate, “what are you doing here starscream?!, don’t you have any better plans?, I don’t know. Like maybe failing at overthrowing Megatron again?!” He snaps harshly at the seeker standing in front of him who was trying to hold onto whatever coolness he has left after the low blow knockout gave him
“We both are aware that is is better for you to continue working on your assistant, instead of drifting on the top of the ship and causing disturbance, you’re her only hope you automobile…” starscream sneers with with nice pettiness which surprised knockout and caused his optic ridges to raise, not expecting the praise, especially not from starscream himself, he contemplates the seeker’s words as he is the only one able to save your life.
Both of the mechs scoff loudly before leaving to each of their destined ways, with knockout going back to the medbay to where you are resting, your body wrapped tightly in sterile bandages to keep everything in, the doctor stood beside your berth as he stared at the slowly rising of your chest that your injured lungs were taking as you breathed, a tiny sliver of hoping that is keeping knockout sane, if it were any scenario with any other mech, knockout would have had them wish for unicron himself to smelt them, in hopes of escaping what’s he’s had planned in processor, yet he knew that Megatron would have had his helm crushed under his pede literally,
Just like how shockwave did to your arm, his sharp talons held your prosthetic hand that he attached to you, no longer being able to feel your soft flesh against his metal, knockout always thought what it would be like if you were a cybertronian like him, things would have been easier, you wouldn’t have been in the position you are right now, still awake and very much with him, knockout missed the shine you had in your eyes that was so much like his finish after a good polish. But now they lay shut until you come back to him. Where you should be.
More days pass and knockout took the bandages off of your body as your wounds have healed and all the internal mechanisms are intact inside of you, as you lay infront of him, bare and still very much warm in contrast to the pseudo-death state you are in and the coldness of his metal frame, with only the scars from the countless surgeries knockout preformed on you, covering your body like clothes, the medic carefully installs your prosthetics to where your missing limbs are. Or where they were supposed to be. Knockout missed how utterly full he used to feel with your presence, he tries his hardest to stay sane as you lay there like a puzzle with missing pieces.
His red optics turn to look down at his taloned servos as his processor recollects how shockwave just dumped your mutilated body on them as you body felt way too light than before, knockout shakes his helmet to get the imagery out of his helm, “don’t even think about it knockout!” He mumbled to himself as his pedes rush him out of the medbay. Having had his fill from unnecessary grotesque memories.
A few days later the door to the medbay slide open as the red mech walked in his place, “doctor in the house-….” His faceplate dropped upon finally seeing the slightest activity of your conscience coming back to you, he rushed to your side as he gripped the berth tightly that it dented a little from how ecstatic he felt as he saw your organic eye flutter weakly, the muscle has gotten slightly lazy from not using it from a long time. minutes painfully pass slowly, The pain was… gone. Not because it had passed, but because something else had taken its place—something colder, alien, and terrifyingly smooth. You woke to the sterile gleam of the familiar Cybertronian medical light panels, the buzzing of high-voltage tools, and the faint chirrup of your new limbs adjusting to motion diagnostics.
Knock Out loomed overhead, optics bright, grin wider than comfort allowed. “Oh good,” he purred, barely keeping the ecstasy in his voice modulator, his voice was as smooth as polished chrome. “You’re awake. I was beginning to worry you’d sleep through your own resurrection.” You blinked up at him. His face was close. Too close. But… familiar. Familiar meant safety. Familiar meant not alone. You reached toward him—then froze. Your arm… moved wrong. Your arm… moved wrong. It moved way too smoothly and way to calculated for someone who just his lost it
It didn’t hurt. But it whirred. Clicked. Glowed faintly at the seams. You looked down—and gagged. Your left arm, once soft and flesh and yours, was now a hybridized metal limb, wires where veins once ran, plates fusing seamlessly into scarred, discolored skin. Your legs—oh God, your legs—were gone entirely. In their place were prosthetics crafted with brutal efficiency. Graceful, sleek, deadly… but foreign. Wrong. You thought to yourself as panic started to settle in you like water under oil.
You scrambled, trembling, trying to sit up—your new limbs jerking unnaturally, like they were dragging you rather than obeying you. Panic crushed your ribs like a vise. “W-What the hell did you do to me?!” Knock Out’s expression flickered—hurt? Annoyed? No, worse. Excited. “You died, darling,” he said smoothly, brushing your hair back. Your stomach turned. “What… what did you do to me…?”
Knock Out placed a hand over your chest, right above your fluttering heart. “I saved you, darling. You were bleeding out, screaming, dragging yourself through ash and shrapnel. I couldn’t let you go out like that. Not when I could make you whole again.” You shivered beneath his touch. You should’ve been angry. You should’ve screamed. But your voice cracked when you asked, “Am I… still me?” Knock Out’s faceplate softened—disturbingly tender as he got closer to you as if it had been megacycles the last he has seen you. “You’re better than you were. Stronger. Faster. Alive, and beautiful. You were mine before, but now?” He let out a dreamy sigh. “Now you’re perfect.”
Ugly tears welled in your eyes as your lungs hurt you even more with every ragged breath you took as you cried. You didn’t want to cry—not in front of him, not like this—but the emotions were impossible to name. Fear. Relief. Loss. A strange kind of awe. The horror of seeing your reflection in the mirrored wall—your face the same, but framed by alien angles, glowing seams, and unfamiliar limbs that you are still not used to their sight on your body, You reached for his hand as if out of instinct, as if it was a second nature to you, just like the air you are struggling to take in right now, He gave it to you instantly not allowing you to wait for him, It felt warm, for a machine, but weren’t you half one right now?
Knockout didn’t need to hear any words of gratitude from you, he can feel it as he can feel it through the trembling of your new mechanism hand as he holds it ever so gently. “Knockout, I’m scared.” He pressed your knuckles to his lips. “You should be. Your body’s different. The world will see you as something else now. But not me. I see you. I chose you. And now, no one can take you from me. Not even Shockwave.” His tone darkened at the name. You flinched. Your heart twisted. “I want to kill him,” you muttered, half to yourself. As you can feel the searing rage and malice start to simmer in you, as the images of a dismantled shockwave to the last screw fills your mind with minuscule relief, “and you will, one day surely, it’s only a matter of time darling, I know that very well, I know you, very well” he quipped contently still pressing your knuckles to his lips as he basks in your presence for now after being denied it for so long.

Fuck it, HH swap AU
Their core personalities and backgrounds stay the same, it's mostly a role switch
Niffty <--> Husker
Angel Dust <--> Vaggie
Alastor <--> Charlie
(the typical for swap AUs, I know,,)
Everyone else stays the same
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These r edits bc I was just figuring out their designs for the AU, I'll draw them normally another time (Husker isn't here cuz I can't find a good png of the mf)
In this AU Alastor started the hotel mostly because he randomly thought up the idea once and thought, "that's fucking hilarious, I'm doing that" + a secondary sentimental reason he'd kill me for saying (he got genuinely fully invested in the cause eventually)
He advertised it on his radio show suddenly out of the blue after 7 and a half years of radio (lol) silence. Alastor still owns Husker's and Niffty's souls but they're also obviously friends (or atleast close to it)
Also he can read tarot bc why not :3
Charlie is closer to her dad in this AU and more sheltered, adopting a more aloof, smug, and dangerous persona so sinners take her seriously, she also has a very slight condescending outlook towards sinners but she's at her core still compassionate and still views them as her people and want to protect them to a certain extent, and she still thinks the Exterminations are unnecessary and cruel, but she doesn't feel like she can do much about it since according to Lucifer's stories and discouragement, she knows heaven likely wouldn't listen much if at all, but when she heard of Alastor's little project it resparked hope in her and she decided to invest in it, becoming co-owner and funder for the hotel.
Angel Dust/Anthony never made a deal with Valentino and actually stayed in his family's crime/mafia business for the 1st half of him being in Hell, but his dad is a POS and kicked him out for being gay so he started doing s3x work, and then he met Alastor after he brutalized his harassers one day, and Angel wanted to repay the favor somehow. Alastor seems interested in him so they struck a deal (not a soul deal, just a simple deal) which has Angel/Anthony is under Alastors protection in exchange for Angel/Anthony's loyalty and assistance when needed (which is a rare case so Angel still feels like he owes Alastor). They grow friendly with time, and Alastor offers to have him be patient zero for his redemption project, and he accepted.
Vaggie/Vi is still a fallen exterminstor and still met Charlie the same way she did in the show, but after that they went their separate ways and Vi finds herself making a deal with Velvette. Instead of being a pornstar like Angel in the show, she is an influencer and a rockstar/singer, she does enjoy making music and playing the guitar but Velvette tends to overwork her and make her do things she doesn't really like for views/popularity. Velvette is the nicest to Vi/Vaggie compared to with her other employees (which isn't a very highly set bar tbh) but she also frequently break her boundaries.
Vi met Charlie again during one of her concerts and they got close and started dating. (Also one sided Velvette x Vaggie is sort of slightly maybe canon in this AU bc toxic Yuri is fun (and it's only fully one sided after Charlie and Vaggie/Vi started dating))
She helps manage the hotel when needed, but is honestly only there cause Charlie is.
Not much about Niffty changes tbh (she's perfect the way she is, utterly unhinged 😍) she's just a bit more mellowed out and less hyper (she's still hyper just not all the time like in the show) and she's also a bartender and has surprisingly good taste for alcohol, and also frequently makes borderline poisonous drinks while experimenting, but when she gets it right it's really good. Doesn't stop the others of being terrified of her drinks though
Husker is a more smiley and charming in this AU, using a laid back attitude to put people at ease and more willing to open up to him if they need to (he used to use the information people share as blackmail when he needs to back when he was an Overlord, although he never actually needs to spread anything, just threats), and he's still very observant but he's also slightly more unhinged- He's a sort of butler/cleaner for the hotel
He still gets grumpy time to time, but mostly when he's drunk, which isn't as often anymore ever since Niffty was put in charge of the bar (understandably so)
He has a bit of an anger issue and also gets annoyed easily, and sometimes makes unhinged threats as a sort of joke (they stop being much of a joke once you genuinely piss him off)
He likes things clean and tidy because it helps him pretend to be put together
He and Alastor are a bit friendlier compared to in the show, hes still one of the few people that knows more about Alastor, though hes still bummed about the whole being owned by Alastor thing (Husker can also read tarot to a lesser extent bc Al taught him for funzies and Husker thought it's interesting)
His gambling addiction is also ever so slightly worse

spectragus dont get enough credit for being a sun and moon ship but like. destructive sun and moon ship. sun and moon ship but they're the forces of nature the sun and moon actually are. the sun is harsh and relentless and unpredictable in its evil but also it's kindness, the moon is sharp and cold and cruel, a harsh light that doesn't allow you peace, but can also guide you, a light in the darkness. even on nights with a new moon, with no light in the sky, the moon is always reflecting the sun, and it'll be that way until they come to their end.
#spectragus give me a dopamine high that any sort of drug couldn't even come close to giving me#its the loyalty. its the seeing each other at their worst and still staying.#its the being the only person still around who knows and understands what youve been through#its the being so important to each other's characters that u cant mention one without recognising the impact the other has on them#i dont rlly do shipping unless its funny but also im a huge gus fan so like. yea. plus my view on romance is a bit all over the place anyway#something something my skrunkles deserve complicated relationships that are more than romantic but something else#its the trust thats the most important thing to me. trust and loyalty and devotion and#im sorry but i would have exploded if i like. didn't write down these thoughts#anyways fucked up gay people who are a package deal and that is a threat thats them#ik the majority of my posts are hee hee funnie and i usually dont take things too seriously#but these two have taken up part of my brain permanently since i was 8. like. they just live there. rent free.#i am like rabid rn. i am feral and i am insane and i am crazy and there are so many things wrong with me#i cant even write down all my fuckin thoughts there's so many my brain is going to Explode pray for me#idk if u understand how important it is to me the times they show kindness even while at their worst#they're not good people but they have people they care about and they care abt each other and that matters SO much#i take 0 criticism on my posts i only take cash. however there is no possible criticism to be made bc i am RIGHT#also this all kinda sparked from me getting obsessed with a certain kh character who has a connection to the moon#who is also one of my favourite characters ever#and if u know who it is and u also like him ur very cool#im not tagging this w character tags. im like. very shy. but#i love gus i love spectra i love spectragus#anyways see u next time where i should hopefully have art maybe potentially#i found the brushes i used to use back when i did lineless art so i am rlly happy

Hi!! I saw that you write for Arcane and had a really cute idea for Vander. I don’t really see a lot of fics where you get to see Vander’s reactions to the reader either playing with the kids or comforting them, so I thought a fic centered around that might be cute? (I think also having a bit of slow burn would be sweet, like both Vander and the reader like each other but don’t do anything about it until getting a little push from the kids because they ship).
ONE LITTLE PUSH

Reblogs and Comments are greatly appreciated!!

JUST IN TIME (kind of) FOR SEASON TWO, LETS GOOOOO
__________________________________________________________________________
Vander wasn’t quite sure why you stuck around for so long.
In fact, he wasn’t sure why you stuck around in the first place.
But… As Vander watches you with the kids. His kids. He begins to understand why.
You were kind, unyieldingly so. Even as Mylo grew to start picking on Powder, even as they fought, you were kind and patient and offered them the unending gentle love they all so craved.
The love he couldn’t afford to give them because who could be gentle in the Undercity? Especially in the depths of the Lanes?
You could.
Tumblr media
Vander was in the middle of pouring a drink when Powder tumbled into The Last Drop. She was covered in bruises and dust from something. Or someone. She barely met his gaze as she clambered to her feet and all but sprinted into the back where they all slept. Vander looked through the multitude of customers and spotted you.
You had obviously seen Powder go bolting, worry twisting your face as you glanced toward the bar and met his stare. You arched an eyebrow, and he shrugged. You rolled your eyes and sighed before smiling in jest and getting up from where you had been tinkering with the jukebox.
Vander finally manages to get away from his chatty clients and makes his way back into the back room nearly fifteen minutes later.
Only to pause by the door.
“—ylo hates me! He does, I swear!” Powder cries, and you hush her gently, dabbing what looks to be some of the antiseptic you have lying around on her cuts and bruises. Disinfectant was hard to come by, especially in the Lanes, but you were seemingly magic in the sense that you always knew who to talk to to get some. It seems you had worked your magic yet again.
“Did Mylo say that he hates you?” You ask gently, whispering a quiet “sorry” under your breath as she flinched with the sting of the antiseptic.
Powder pauses, thinking what had to be her earlier conversation over,
“Well… No…” She mumbles, and you hum,
“Can I give you my honest opinion?” You ask, and she stills, looking up at you with wide eyes before nodding.
“Aren’t you always honest with us?” She asks. You chuckle at that.
“I suppose I am. But I don’t think Mylo hates you. Does he find you a bit annoying? Maybe. But every big brother thinks that about their younger siblings. I know mine did.” You say, and Powder mulls your words over and over and over in her mind.
She always did overthink things.
“I didn't know you had a big brother.” She says eventually, and you let out a loud laugh at that.
“You are a silly girl for focusing on that. But yes, I came from a big family. And guess what? I was the baby of the family. Just. Like. You.” You say, emphasizing your words with a pinch to her side. Powder squeals with laughter and wriggles away to escape your dastardly tickling.
Vander hangs his head with a huff and a smile before turning to head back to the bar counter. He can hear your conversation continue as Powder escapes your grasp.
“Now, where did you get all these bruises from?”
“Um… Vi taught me parkour from Topside down…”
“Powder! You’re like seven!”
“Seven and a half! And she said I was ready!”
Tumblr media
Ever since you began to stick around, you had become something of a parent figure to the four little children Vander had come into care for.
To Vi and Powder especially.
So when Mylo burst into The Last Drop with the words of a fistfight on his tongue, you were the first one out the door.
Vander was close behind.
Mylo led you and Vander deep into the Undercity. In fact, it was so far into the Undercity that Vander was worried they were getting into some dark territory.
Like… Really dark territory.
But soon enough, the sounds of a fight were heard, and soon after, you were deep in the throng of a multi-person fistfight. Everyone paused for a second when they saw you and then stopped altogether when they spotted Vander not far behind.
You began to pull people off and shoved them out of the way. You did this again and again, ducking under a few stray punches until you managed to unearth Vi.
She wasn’t looking too hot.
Her face was bruised and swollen, and the fifteen-year-old spat out a wad of blood as she bared her bloody teeth and prepared to fight again.
At least until she saw you.
It was as if the tension had been released from her shoulders.
She all but slumped into your grasp, and you stumbled back a step with the sudden weight. Vander yanked the last person away from you both and scooped up his adoptive daughter. She leaned her head into the crook of his neck and was obviously fighting back tears.
Mylo was hunched over, hands on his knees, and wheezed from all the sprinting.
“Vi? Violet, can you hear me?” You said as soon as you all returned to The Last Drop, and Vander set her down on the couch. Powder and Claggor had been found a block away, fighting off more thugs from whoever sent them after the literal children.
He would've pummeled them to a pulp if Vander hadn’t hung up his gauntlets years before.
Vi’s head lolled from side to side, and you shone a pocket flashlight into her eyes, watching as her pupils dilated and contracted. You were experienced at this, taking care of people, even more so than he thought.
Were you a doctor deep in your past?
As Vander thought about it, he realized he didn’t know practically anything about you. Your past, your likes, dislikes, he knew you were good with machines and medicine and that you came from a big family. But that was it.
And that hurt his heart.
You ended up ushering everyone out of the room while you worked on caring for Vi. Vander closed the bar early and was in the middle of putting chairs on tables when you emerged. Powder, Mylo, and Claggor dropped what they were doing. They scampered to your side, a chorus of “How’s Vi?” erupting from the kids. You offered them a tired smile and patted their heads.
“She’ll be okay. She’s resting right now. You can go in and see her if you’re quiet.”
And then it was the two of you.
Vander set the final chair on top of the table and meandered his way over where you were sitting at the bar, head in your hands.
You looked tired.
“Is she really okay?” He asked, and you grunted, rubbing at your temples.
“She has a broken nose, fractured left arm, some bruised ribs, and a concussion. Which, all things considered, she’s very lucky. It could’ve been a lot worse.” You say, and he sighs,
“Did she say why she got into the fight?” He replied, and you shrug,
“She was protecting Powder. Then, more people started showing up until it was an all-out brawl. That’s when we stepped in.” You say, and his shoulders sag.
Vi was going to be okay.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said it. But thank you. For everything you’ve done. Taking care of them and all that.” He says, and you just hum.
“You guys gave me a home after everything. I’m just repaying my debt. Well… that and I love those kids.” You say, and he arches an eyebrow,
“After everything?” He inquires, and you glance up sharply as if not realizing what you had said.
Eventually, your gaze casts downward, and you run a hand over your head and through your hair.
“I was a doctor in Piltover before the rebellion. I was caught trying to help the Undercity before they were officially citizens and cast out.” You say, and his arched eyebrow raises even higher.
“A doctor? Were you any good?” You bark out a dry laugh at that,
“One of the best!” Your voice cracks as you speak, and he feels his heart splinter into pieces.
Tumblr media
Vander should’ve known that Claggor and Mylo were up to something when they came in with sneaky grins on their faces.
The Last Drop was all but desolate. It was the wee hours of the morning before the people of the Undercity awoke to begin their day. But the door was unlocked, and the kids were allowed to run in and out as they pleased.
Which they had been doing a lot in the last hour or so.
“Vander!” Mylor clamored for his adopted father’s attention, waving an excited hand as he scampered up to the counter. Claggor hung behind, ever the stoic young man. But there was mischief in their eyes and curling the corners of their mouths.
Vander slung the rag he used to wipe the counters down over his shoulder and leaned on the bar counter.
“What did you do now?” He teased, and Mylo all but squawked.
“When have I ever done anything?!” Vander just stared,
“Do you really want me to answer that?” He asked, and Claggor snickered at Mylo’s deflated expression. Mylo quickly spun on a heel and jabbed a finger at his adopted brother,
“Not a word outta you, Claggor!” He snapped before spinning back as something dawned on him.
“You gotta come with us!” He demanded, and Vander glanced between the two of them.
“Why?” He asked, and Mylo let out an exaggerated groan.
“No questions! Just come on!” He grabbed Vander’s hand and tried tugging him around the counter and toward the front door.
Vander relented, locking the door behind him as he followed the two boys.
Only to realize very quickly what was actually going on.
His first tip-off was hearing Powder and Vi’s voices, yours mixed in as you asked where you were going, why they were taking you, and what they were doing.
Vi answered no questions. Powder just chirped excitedly. “You’ll see! You’ll see!”
The six of you met in the middle of the street, Powder dragging you by your hand as you followed behind patiently. You glanced up from listening to Powder, and your gazes met. Vander felt his heart skip a beat as he took in your appearance. There wasn’t anything particularly new, but you looked like you had cleaned up some. Your hair was pinned neatly back, and your clothes looked ironed.
You looked… Really nice.
“Vander? What’s going on?” You asked, and Vi nudged you with her good arm. Her fractured left one was still healing carefully under your care.
“We’re setting you two up.” She teased, and you stared dumbly.
“Setting us up how?” You asked, and now it was Powder’s turn to blurt out an answer,
“On a date!”
Before the two of you could react, all four kids all but disappeared around the corner in a cloud of dust. Leaving you facing Vander and utterly alone.
It was safe to say he was panicking just a little bit.
“Vander? Do you have any idea what they meant?” You asked gently, and he scrubbed a hand down his face.
“My guess is they want us to go on a date.” He said, fully prepared to hear rejection. Because who would want to go on a date with him? A middle-aged man with a stained past. His lungs twisted as he heard you take a step closer.
A smaller hand slipped into his, and he looked down from where he had been staring at Topside.
Your eyes were lit up, not with disgust at the proposition he was proposing.
But they were filled with hope for the future this relationship would bring.

Chapter Three - Together
“Did you just call that guy grandpa?”
Mouth still left parted in shock, you stare at the back of Luffy’s head, waiting for him to answer Zoro’s question. Or, at the very least, clarify what exactly he meant by calling the Vice Admiral of the Marine Corps grandpa—because surely he was not actually related to your captain; your captain of a pirate crew.
Though, you’re at a loss to think of what else Luffy could have possibly meant.
Meeting Zoro’s gaze, the two of you stood directly behind Luffy, his expression matching your own.
“Hit the deck!”
You barely have time to register Usopp’s warning, only seeing something black and something very much like a cannon heading straight your way, before arms are grabbing you and pulling you down. You’re tucked into a chest, your own arms coming to protect yourself as you try to ignore the ache the sudden movement pulls on your stitches.
The rumble of the cannon hitting the ship fades, and slowly, you pull away, meeting Zoro’s gaze first, realizing then he’d been the one to pull you down (you don’t have time to think about how that makes you feel), before both of your gazes fall on the broken fence of your ship deck.
Pressing a hand to your waist, you move to stand, Zoro shuffling back to give you room. He offers a hand, to which you take, letting him help pull you up to your own feet.
“Everybody okay?” Luffy calls, and your eye falls on him in front of you.
“I think so,” Nami calls back, breathless. Both her and Usopp were further back from the explosion, up on the helm deck.
“No,” Usopp cries, popping up beside her. “Not okay. Not even close to okay.”
You shake your head, trying to ignore your own panic that’s bubbling inside of you. “We need to do something,” you urge, facing back towards the marine ship. “They’re just gonna keep shooting at us until we sink.”
Meeting your gaze briefly, Luffy nods. “Usopp!” He calls, pointing directly at the marine ship and his grandpa. “Fire back at them!”
“Or how about we sail away as fast as we can?” Usopp offers.
Luffy turns to look at him, looking bewildered that he’d even offered the idea. But Nami only extends a hand towards Usopp, clearly in agreement.
“Run from the Marines?” Luffy breathes, “no. Never! Nami, trim the… the sail thing. Let’s sink their ship.”
Usopp, probably despite his own fear, comes to meet Luffy with the cannon ammo.
“You want to sink a marine ship?” You echo in disbelief. “That’s… insane.”
“Not to mention, we don’t have time!” Nami argues, “they’re stealing our wind. If they pull up alongside us, we’re finished.”
Luffy just ignores her. “You’re the navigator. Do something.”
Turning to her, she meets your gaze. You offer a helpless shrug.
Nami huffs. “Zoro,” she calls, shifting her gaze past you. “Sheet in and hard to port! Y/N, stay there and don’t get more hurt.”
Feeling useless, you huff, but listen to Nami regardless. You knew you’d only pay worse if you didn’t.
“You know how to load a cannon?” Luffy asks Usopp, who chuckles nonchalantly in return.
You seriously doubt that.
“Yeah, of course. I’ve loaded thousands of them.” Almost as soon as he says that, he hesitates with the cannon in hand. “Uh, this just must be a different model than I’m used to.”
Huffing, you shuffle forward. “Load the cannon in the barrel,” you explain, pointing at the barrel as he turns to look at you helplessly. “Light the fuse and then get out of the way.”
Nodding at you, he shuffles forward, moving to the front of the cannon. Only, before he can load the barrel, he drops all the cannons in his hands.
“Usopp!”
Eyes widening, you rush forward to help, but Luffy holds a hand out to you, shaking his head as he moves to run after Usopp and the cannons which have gone down the stairs.
Pressing a hand to your forehead, you sigh.
“We’re so gonna die.”
-
Somehow, you don’t die.
After Luffy somehow manages to deflect a cannon with his belly, Nami quickly makes the five of you disappear into the thick of the fog. The second you’d gotten away, Luffy had crawled up to the bow and taken a seat. He hadn’t said a word since.
Nami had taken to steering, and since she was probably the most qualified person, you’d left her to it. You instead decide to lean against the railing, letting your eyes stay focused on the back of Luffy.
It wasn’t like him to be quiet, and you had no doubt it had something to do with the fact that his grandpa had nearly just destroyed his ship and killed him and all his friends. With how Luffy was, you figured he probably hadn’t come to terms with that reality yet and he would probably continue to ignore it until forced to otherwise.
“How’s the ship looking?”
Inhaling sharply, you glance over your shoulder, eye falling on Zoro as he shakes his head at Nami. “Broken railing,” he answers, “minor damage. Could’ve been a lot worse.”
Nami rolls her eyes; “could’ve been better.”
“Can’t see the Marines anywhere,” Usopp assures.
“Can’t see anything in this soup,” Nami corrects. “What we need is a place to lay low, wait out any reinforcements they send after us. My charts are useless in this fog.”
Zoro nods. “What did Luffy say?”
You sigh; “he’s on the bow,” you point ahead of yourself. “He hasn’t said anything since we hightailed it. I’m…” Hesitating, you chance one glance at his back before turning back to the three. “I’m worried about him.”
“Somebody needs to talk to him,” Nami says. “About this and that other thing.”
Zoro frowns. “What other thing?”
“Oh gee, I wonder,” Nami says, obviously sarcastic.
The expression on Zoro’s face tells you he really doesn’t know what.
“The Vice-Admiral-of-the-Marines-is-my-grandfather-thing.” Nami explains, looking at you all like it’s obvious.
You offer a shrug; “I’m confused too… but it feels wrong to interrogate him about it. Especially after the guy tried to kill us.”
Nami just blinks over at you.
“Yeah…” Usopp drawls, “I don’t really know the guy that well, so…”
Zoro nods; “doesn’t seem like a big deal.”
“Well, I wouldn’t say that it isn’t a big deal…” You say tentatively, wary of Nami’s reaction and unable to deny the curiosity you feel. It did beg questions and it was a little wrong that Luffy had chosen not to tell any of you. “I just don’t know…”
Nami hesitates a moment, before shaking her head, turning to Zoro. “You’re his first mate,” he reminds, “kind of seems like that falls under your job description, hmm?”
He glances at you and Usopp, probably hoping one of you will do it instead of him. Usopp sends him a sheepish smile, holding the straps of his overalls and rocking on his feet, making his answer clear. When Zoro meets your gaze, you press a hand to your waist and smile nervously; “I’m injured?”
You were worried, but you also had no idea how to breach a conversation like that with Luffy of all people.
It’s obviously an excuse, but Zoro doesn’t argue. With a blink, he turns; “fine.”
You watch him leave, before meeting Nami’s gaze.
“You’re aware that Zoro is probably the worst person to check in on Luffy, right?” You raise a brow, “no way he’s actually gonna find anything out.”
Sighing dramatically, Nami presses her forehead to the helm.
Sure enough, a minute later Zoro comes back, shrugging; “seems fine to me.”
“Did you even ask him?”
Before Zoro can respond, if he even was going to, Luffy suddenly stands; “hey!” Pausing, he sniffs, raising his finger. “You guys smell that?”
Your brows furrow. “Smell what?”
Luffy’s quiet for a moment, taking in the air, before he breathes out; “there’s something on the breeze.” Sniffing again, his eyes widen. “Smells like butter. Soy sauce. And meat.”
He grins back at the four of you.
“I can’t smell anything,” Usopp frowns, moving towards Luffy. He seems almost disappointed he can’t smell anything.
“Think he has brain damage?” Zoro asks you and Nami.
Nami huffs, crossing her arms; “I think that every day.”
You let out a nervous laugh.
“Look, Luffy,” Usopp scratches his head. “Playing follow the smell is fun and all, but we really got to get out of this fog.”
“I know,” he calls back, “but I smell food, which means that there’s someone somewhere cooking.”
-
You’ll never doubt Luffy’s nose again.
Turns out what he was smelling was a whole restaurant, and without having anywhere else to go and needing food, you’d all decided to dock there and get something to eat. Luffy and Usopp had been roaring to go the second the ship docked, barely able to stand still, which made Nami eager to get off the boat just so she didn’t have to deal with two idiots. You’re pretty excited yourself, but just as the ship docked, you’d noticed a bit of red on your shirt. You very quickly deduced it was your wound and obviously, after the excitement of nearly being hit by a cannon, you’d aggravated your stitches.
“You sure you don’t need help?” Nami frowns, hesitating to follow Luffy and Usopp off the ship. Zoro was hanging by the plank too, you couldn’t help but notice. He wasn’t offering to stay, of course, but he seemed concerned.
Shaking your head from the thought, you smile at Nami. “Positive.” You assure, sending her a thumbs up. “I just gotta change the bandage and my shirt and I’ll meet you guys there. Just let the host know I’m coming.”
Hovering for only a moment longer, Nami nods. “You can borrow one of my shirts again,” she offers. “Remind me next time we’re on an island to get you some clothes. When we’re not being chased by Marines.”
You laugh, nodding at her and turning to head to your and Nami’s shared room. You pause, however, when your eye catches Zoros’ once again. He looks like he wants to say something, and for some reason you find you can’t offer anything in return. It takes Nami, who’d seen the rather obvious and embarrassing display, to grab Zoro by the arm and pull him with her to get either of you to move.
Cheeks burning, you rush down to the room, trying to ignore the flutter of your chest or the nerves flooding through your entire body.
Seriously, it was starting to get too much. Before, you’d at least be able to brush it off as being intimidated by Zoro since he was, well, a pretty intimidating guy. But since the whole Kuro incident and you getting hurt, every time Zoro’s eyes seemed to fall on you, that narrowed and heavy gaze lightened into something soft. It was hard to ignore or not let get to you when he’d already made you all hot and flustered before.
He was attentive in a way you hadn’t experienced or expected from him. Everyone had been worried when you’d gotten hurt. You distinctly remember being surprised by how bothered Nami had seemed by it and even Usopp, who you’d just met, had checked in on you. But Zoro? Zoro had been concerned in a whole other way. Rather than just asking you or checking in like Luffy had, he’d hovered. He stayed near when Kaya had cleaned and stitched your wound for you, helping you walk there and then back to the ship even when you assured you were fine.
You’d never had someone so worried about you, let alone a man you were clearly attracted to.
You didn’t know if Zoro had any idea of what he was doing to you, but he was killing you. Your heart was always racing when he was near, which was always, and he made you feel like a fumbling fool, mind short-circuiting to the point of silliness whenever his eyes fell on you.
You’d never forget what he’d said about your eye. How he’d made you feel about it. Luffy and Nami had been endearing too, you would never deny that, but Zoro had spoken up first. And the look on his face…
Pressing your hands to your cheeks, you try to cool the heat you feel and your racing mind. This was silly. You were being silly. Zoro was just being nice and he probably just saw what a helpless fool you were and felt pity. There was nothing more to it.
Zoro was a strong swordsman, a renowned bounty hunter and Luffy’s first mate and you were… you.
Swallowing thickly, you sit down at the desk in your and Nami’s shared room, pulling up your shirt and glancing down. As expected, your wound has bled through your bandage. Momentarily, you worry that you’ve ripped your stitches, but the second you pull the bandage off, you’re assured that isn’t the case. You clearly just aggravated the wound and, pausing to clean the blood and apply the salve Kaya had given you, you place a new bandage on.
You take a moment more to find a shirt to wear, thankful Nami was being so generous with her clothing. You could tell the girl took her fashion seriously and you felt bad enough borrowing her clothes, but now you were ruining them with blood. You’d have to make it up to her somehow.
Cleaned with a new bandage on, you smile to yourself, feeling your stomach rumble almost as if reminding you.
Without a second more of hesitation, you make your way up and off the Going Merry. The Baratie is buzzing with people and you can’t help but let your gaze wander across the millions of different people going on with their lives, each in their own world. You continue to do so until you find the front entrance to the restaurant, and with a simple explanation to the host that you were here with friends and a small description of some friends, you’re led to the table.
You pause, however, when you realize the waiter is already taking your friends’ order.
The host leaves your side and with only a second more of hesitation, you make your way to the table, not having realized you’d taken so long.
“Do I still have time to place an order?”
Everyone's eyes fall on you at your question, and coming to a stop on the left of the waiter, right in front of Zoro. You frown when you notice the tense look on his face, concerned, but before you can ask, your captain is beaming at your arrival.
“Y/N!” Luffy calls, grinning. “You’re just in time! I ordered one of everything for us!”
You shouldn’t be surprised, but his words still pull a laugh from your lips. Of course Luffy would order the entire menu.
“I didn’t know I would be greeted by two beautiful maidens today. And one with such an infectious laugh.”
Freezing, it takes you a second to realize that the words had come from the waiter and that he was talking to you. Eyes widening, you turn to him, meeting his eyes with your left one, only to see him smiling at you. One hand is shoved into the pocket of his dress pants as he turns towards you with a certain suaveness.
Cheeks warming in embarrassment, your hands rise. “Oh, I—”
But before you can finish, the waiter is taking your left hand in his, pulling it up to his lips and pressing a kiss there. No longer just warm, your cheeks burn.
“Such beautiful eyes too, madam,” he grins, “I’ll never forget either of them.”
You’re hyper aware of the fact that your entire crew is watching this happen and that you’re standing there, gaping like a fish. You’ve never had anyone flirt with you, especially not someone so… persistent.
The waiter continues to stare back at you, never once looking upset by your lack of response.
An achingly long minute passes.
“Y/N.”
You don’t even have time to turn to Zoro at him calling your name before you feel hands fall on your hips, tugging you forward. A small yelp leaves your lips in response, stunned stupid, as Zoro pulls you in front of him, practically on his lap for a brief second, your hand slipping from the waiter's grip. Zoro moves you so you’re sat next to him, in between him and Nami who sends you a knowing smirk as you try to ignore your racing heart and flaming cheeks.
“Oi,” the waiter calls before you can, again, say anything. “Don’t be so rough with her.”
Zoro glares right at him. “Don’t be so handsy,” he growls back, not missing a beat. “Y/N doesn’t even know you.”
“She can get to know me,” the waiter challenges, curling a brow at your swordsman before his eyes shift back to you. “I’m sorry our introduction got interrupted, my name is Sanji. It’s lovely to meet you, Y/N.”
You’re sure you look as stupid as you feel.
“N-Nice to meet you too, Sanji,” you echo back, voice small.
Sanji grins just as Zoro leans forward, cutting you off from view. “Shouldn’t you be getting our food and drinks? The ones we ordered, waiter?”
The smile on Sanji’s face tenses, but he holds back whatever he clearly wants to say to Zoro, side stepping to meet your eyes once again. “Certainly, but first… what would you like, madam? Water like your lovely friend or something else? A sweet wine, perhaps? I can recommend some to you.”
You meet Nami’s eyes who just scoffs, obviously having received similar attention as you were now.
“Water,” you squeak. “Like her.”
“Not sparkling? Mineral? Ice or no?”
“Just water,” you nod, noticing the tick in Zoro’s jaw.
“Coming right up, Y/N,” he winks at you, smirking, before he turns away.
Silence follows, thick and heavy.
“Don’t worry,” Nami is the first to break the ice, lightly nudging you. “He was the same with me.”
Usopp snickers next to her, meeting your eye; “looks like you and Nami have got a boyfriend.”
Rolling her eyes, Nami just laughs quietly to herself. “Yeah, well, I don’t think it’s me we should be worried about.” Her eyes shift to Zoro, as does everyones, even Luffy who looks a bit lost, and finally, you turn to look at him too.
Your cheeks are still warm with embarrassment, mainly from Sanji’s flirting, but also the way Zoro had grabbed you. It wasn’t that you minded, because really, you didn’t, but—what the hell was that?
Meeting her gaze, arms crossed over his chest, Zoro huffs; “I’m fine.”
“Sure,” Nami drawls, smirking.
“I never seen you so angry, Zoro,” Usopp teases, grinning ear to ear. “Jealous?” He sings the word, wiggling his brows at the swordsman as you sink into your seat further.
“Of a waiter?” Zoro scoffs, careful not to glance your way. “Of course not.”
You don’t fail to notice the fact that he hadn’t denied he’d been jealous because of you.
With a little bit more laughter, the conversation drifts off as Luffy starts to ramble about the food. Once the attention is thoroughly off you and Zoro, you turn to him.
“Are you okay?” You ask in a soft voice, concerned and perhaps wanting to know more about why he’d done what he had.
Finally turning to look at you, you watch as Zoro swallows thickly. “Fine,” he says gruffly and you flinch, frowning. Seeing your reaction, Zoro sighs. “Just didn’t like the way he touched you…”
He says it with a grumble, and if you hadn’t been right next to him, you wouldn’t have heard it.
Lips parting, you blink; “oh.”
“No guy should touch you like that.” He adds.
You turn to him but he’s already looked away, clearly done with the conversation.
You can’t help but think to yourself, however, that he’d touched you like that.
And that you liked it.
“So… how long do you think the owner will make Luffy work for him?”
You glance up at your friends at your own question, curious. Instead of mirrored curiosity staring back at you, you find blank faces instead.
Frowning, you huff. “Is no one concerned?” You ask, genuinely worried. “We all ate that food… and he’s the one working for it.”
“I didn’t eat,” Zoro shrugs, “I just drank some beer.”
You glower at him.
Turning to Usopp, you hope maybe he’ll say something. Of course, he doesn’t and instead, he continues to slurp up the fancy fruity cock-tail drink he’d ordered, promptly avoiding your eye. You already know that Nami won’t be any help since she seemed rather hurt by Luffy lying about his grandpa, and while you couldn’t fault her for being hurt, you were frustrated at all of their lack of concerns.
Sighing, you push yourself to a stand, taking a step forward. Zoro catches you by the wrist before you make it two full steps.
“Where are you going?”
You glance down at him. “To find Luffy,” you gesture forward, as if the answer should’ve been obvious. Which it should’ve. “I don’t feel like drinking or…” You let your eyes drag across the bustling crowd of the bar. “...dancing. Maybe I can talk the owner into going easy on him.”
You go to do that, except, Zoro still doesn’t let go of your wrist.
“We should probably stick together,” Zoro says, never taking his eyes off of you. “In case the Marines come.”
You shake your head, pulling at his grip. He lets go easy, but the frown on his face makes it clear he’s annoyed by your persistence. “I’ll be fine,” you brush off his concern. “The worst thing I’ll be doing is washing some dishes, I reckon.”
Zoro looks like he wants to argue, but it’s clear he isn’t sure how.
You just sigh; “stay and relax. I’ll be fine.”
And then you turn before he can say anything else.
Shifting your way past the crowd of the bar, you make your way back down the steps that lead out into the outdoor bar. It isn’t hard to get back into the restaurant, but you’re careful not to catch the attention of any of the chefs or staff. Instead, you carefully slink your way towards the employee section.
At the sight of a chef with blue hair coming towards you, you’re quick to duck behind a wall. You hesitate, hovering, trying to listen for his footsteps to grow distant. Except, your ears pick up on something else.
Luffy.
Turning in the direction of the noise, your gaze falls on the hallway in front of you, seeing a door at the far end. With one more glance behind you to make sure no one was there, you make your way down the hall, eyes brightening when you see the word ‘KITCHEN’ labelled at the top of the door. A glance through the small circular windows only confirms your suspicions, lips curling into a smile at the sight of Luffy.
You also make note of the waiter from before standing in front of him and… it looked like the two were talking to a man you didn’t recognize. Sanji is ushering the man out the back entrance of the kitchen, and you use that as your chance to sneak in.
Pushing open the door, you pop your head in.
“Luffy?”
He turns at the sound of your voice, face brightening at the sight of you.
“Y/N!”
You wince when he all but yells your name, confident you were definitely not supposed to be back here. With one last glance back, you slip inside, letting the doors swing shut behind you as you make your way over to your captain.
“What’re you doing here?” He grins, confused. “I thought you and the rest went up to the bar.”
“We did… but I left.” You explain, frowning slightly. Setting your hand on his arm, you glance up at him. “It was a little awkward, Luffy. Nami’s pretty upset about the grandpa thing.”
Luffy’s face wavers at that, the same way you noticed it had during dinner when Nami had brought it back up then. Frowning at the sight, you squeeze his arm reassuringly.
“But mainly I came because I was worried,” you smile. “I didn’t know how hard that owner guy was working you.”
Luffy instantly eases at that, and his lips curve into a genuine smile.
“I’m okay. He just has me doing dishes,” he juts his thumb behind him, and you eye the stack of dishes with a grimace. “Though, I think I found—”
“Y/N?”
Startled at the new voice, you glance over Luffy’s shoulder to see the waiter back from wherever he’d escorted that man you’d seen before. He seems baffled at the sight of you, while you freeze at the sight of him, worried he’ll be mad you snuck in.
“Hello, S-Sanji,” you greet, offering a small wave. “I know I’m not supposed to be here but I was worried about Luffy—”
“I’m not mad you’re here, love,” Sanji grins easily, making his way over to you and Luffy with a shake of his head. “I just hoped you were having fun upstairs in the bar.”
Still not used to his charm, you flush. “Oh, well…” Eye trailing, you turn to Luffy. “I was actually going to ask Luffy if he needed help with—”
“Absolutely not,” Sanji cuts you off for the third time, leaving your lips parted in bafflement. He’s crossing the distance in the kitchen over to you two in two seconds, and before you can even realize it, his hands are on your shoulders, gently turning you towards the door to the kitchen. The one you’d just come from. “A lady like yourself should not be getting her hands dirty at all.”
“B-But…” Words trailing in your bafflement, you glance back at Luffy who grins back at you, unbothered.
“The chore boy will be fine.”
“I should really…” You reach weakly towards Luffy who just raises his hand in an eager wave, completely unbothered by Sanji who is all but shoving you out of the kitchen.
Before you realize, the two of you are back out in the restaurant and Sanji, still with his hands on your shoulders, is easily maneuvering you up the stairs and out of the restaurant completely. In fact, he doesn’t stop until he’s outside the restaurant, far away from anyone.
When he lets go of you, you turn to him, nonplussed.
He grins down at you, sincere and wide.
“Do you always drag girls you just meet to secluded areas to get them alone?”
He seems momentarily stunned by your words, as if not even realizing where he’d lead you, before his face eases and he leans back against the wall of the restaurant. You watch as he reaches into the pocket of his dress pants, pulling out a pack of smokes. “Not usually, but I thought this was the perfect opportunity to get to know each other. Like I’d offered before.” He sends you a wink that has your cheeks warming, eye watching as he places a cigarette between his teeth, lighting it.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you curl a brow at him, ignoring your flush. “Very… forward of you.”
He just grins, taking a puff of his smoke. “You don’t seem to mind it.”
“Only because Luffy didn’t seem bothered by you leading me away like that,” you shrug, moving to lean against the wall next to him. “Anyone Luffy trusts, I do too.”
Sanji raises a brow. “You sure have faith in him.”
“He saved my life,” you explain, thinking back to that moment he’d offered you to join his crew. Even before that, in that pub… you had no idea then how much Luffy and the rest would change your mind. “They all have.”
Sanji’s smile turns more soft at that, and he turns his gaze up to the sky. “That’s sweet.” You turn to look at him, and sure enough, a moment later, he’s adding with a smirk; “just like you.”
You scoff. “It seems you can’t control yourself.”
“Not when I’m around you,” he laughs, taking another puff of his smoke.
“Sure,” you drawl, snorting.
A second of silence passes, before Sanji speaks up again. “So, what’s going on between you and that moss head?”
Almost instantly, the light flush you’d had before burns into something more intense, as you jump, facing Sanji as you wildly shake your hands in front of you. “No-Nothing!” You squeak, unable to control the pitch of your voice.
Sanji eyes you for a moment, then, he chuckles; “sure.” He drawls, matching your previous tone.
“Seriously,” you argue, trying to calm your voice to sound more sure. “There’s nothing going on between me and Zoro.”
“Beautiful, anyone who gets jealous like that over a little flirting doesn’t think there’s nothing going on.” Sanji shakes his head, nudging you lightly with his shoulder. “Or, he hasn’t man-upped enough to tell you the truth.”
You’re positive you’re on fire with how hot you are in embarrassment.
“Zoro does not like me.”
“Okay,” he pauses, “but do you like him?”
Lips left parted, you blink up at Sanji.
“I-I… It’s none of your business.”
Humming, Sanji takes another puff. “Seems like you want to get it off your chest, love.”
You pout. “You’re annoying.”
He leans towards you, smirking; “I’m right, beautiful.”
Shoulders falling, you kick your leg out at a random pebble. “Fine,” you huff, glancing at your feet. “Maybe I like him… a little bit!”
You don’t see the way Sanji’s face softens down at you, and you almost think something’s wrong when he doesn’t say anything. But when you glance back up at him, he’s turned his gaze back up. “Shame,” he sighs, almost soulful. “You truly are enchanting.”
Eyes widening, you bite your lip. “Shut up.”
“It’s true,” he pushes, looking unbothered by your embarrassment. “You deserve far more than that moss head.”
“You don’t even know Zoro.”
He shrugs. “I can tell.”
“I—”
Whatever you’d been about to say falls silent on the tip of your tongue when you see a familiar Straw Hat run by in front of you. Stepping back Sanji, you glance past his shoulder, you watch as Luffy and Usopp run towards the Going Merry.
“Where’s Y/N?” You hear Luffy yell distantly.
“I thought she was with you!” Usopp calls back.
You frown.
“Something wrong?” Sanji asks, hand falling on your shoulder and your gaze turns up, realizing he’d seen the same thing.
“I don’t know…” You breathe, concerned. Stepping back from Sanji, you turn to him apologetically, lips parting to explain.
“Don’t worry about it, love,” he brushes your apology off. “You should go make sure everything’s okay.”
Face easing at his words, you smile; “thank you, Sanji.”
Cigarette in his lips, he glances at you out of the corner of his eye. You send him a genuine smile and a wave, before turning around to run off in the direction Usopp and Luffy had gone.
You’re quick to pick up the pace in your step, reaching the Going Merry in now time. You can hear the distinct voice of Nami and heart racing at how upset she sounds, you’re making your way down the stairs and towards them in seconds flat.
“But you are not better than him!”
Coming to a stop right at the bottom of the stairs, everyone’s eyes fall on you.
Nami instantly turns on you; “there you are!” Reaching you, she tugs you forward, and as she does, you see Usopp glance at you helplessly and Luffy softly smiling which gives you very mixed signals.
Finally, you turn to Zoro, who is… getting his swords ready?
“What’s going on?” You ask, helpless.
Nami huffs next to you. “Will you talk some sense to him?”
Lips parting, you shake your head at Nami. “Sure… but for what?”
“He’s challenged Dracule Mihawk, one of the Seven Warlords, to a duel.”
It’s like you can hear your heart plummet to the pit of your stomach. Nami, who is too busy turning back to Zoro in frustration, doesn’t notice the way your eye shifts, something distant flooding in. Usopp and Luffy don’t see it either.
But Zoro, who’d chanced a glance up at you, nervous for your reaction, sees it. His face falls briefly, everything else fading as he watches you closely.
“Y/N,” Nami presses, voice pitching in distress. “Tell him how reckless he's being.”
Still stunned, your mind a reckless bout of realization and terror, your gaze finally shifts towards Zoro. He quickly turns away and the sight makes dread flood you. “Z-Zoro,” you breathe, feeling as if your voice sounds like an outside extension of yourself.
Distantly, you realize that you’re not helping Nami and most of all, acting suspiciously. Swallowing thickly, you lean forward on the table. “You cannot fight… h-him… fight Mihawk.”
“Yeah,” Nami nods. She looks relieved you agree with her and you figure, even in the midst of your racing mind, the boys hadn’t been much help. With a frown and a huff, she throws her hand in Zoro’s direction; “he wants to go through with it! Even though it’ll get him killed.”
Zoro turns to her, still avoiding your gaze, and asks bluntly; “why do you give a shit?”
Nami visibly blanches, head jerking back in hurt. Her lips part, twisting to say something, and then, blinking back the betrayal in her eyes, she breathes out; “because you’re my friend, you idiot.”
“You said it yourself. You don’t have any friends.”
You see it in her eyes. His words are harsh and even though you’re still reeling from the realization of what was happening and clearly having walked into the middle of something, you see as the walls she’d slowly let fall around you all come back up. Brick by brick.
She glances around the room, meeting your eye last and then, she leaves without another word.
All of you, except for Zoro, watch her leave.
No one says anything, and then, Usopp is following Nami out, meeting your eye with a nervous panic before slipping out. Luffy follows him a second later, patting your shoulder.
You stay standing there, as if glued to the spot. You can’t bring it in you to chase after Nami even if you were concerned, but you also can’t find the words to say something to Zoro. You want to tell him off for being cruel to Nami like that, you want to tell him he was being an idiot that was going to get himself killed and you want to tell him…—
It takes Zoro a minute to speak up. “Not going to try and convince me like Nami?”
Swallowing thickly, the lump in your throat remains despite. With your hands hanging helplessly at your sides, you try to blink back the tears that well in your eyes. It was all too much at once. Your heart was aching with this anchor that had been thrown at you and it was too much to bear.
Still, deep in your heart, you know; “it wouldn’t stop you,” you whisper, voice cracking at the end.
You could beg and plead, get on your hands and knees, and you know nothing could stop Zoro from doing this. The only thing that might… you weren’t sure if you were ready to admit.
Zoro pauses, hands hovering. Then, he agrees; “probably not.”
Your breath hitches. “You could die.”
He turns to look at you. You don’t meet his eyes.
“He’s my goal.”
Fists clenching, you shake your head. “Zoro, please listen,” you cry, “you cannot fight Mihawk. He’s… He’s…”
But you can’t form the words.
“He’s what?” Zoro pushes, leaning towards you. “Say it, Y/N. I saw your face when Nami told you. Mihawk is what?”
You flinch, stepping back. You can’t look at him even as the guilt and panic tears you apart inside. You couldn’t.
Your mind races for something, something else, and then you remember your conversation with Sanji before. You remember your feelings. “W-What about me?”
“What about you?” Zoro’s tone is even, careful, but his blunt question hurts all the same.
Finally, you look up at him. His eyes are already on you, face flat and expressionless.
You come to terms then it’s pointless. Zoro wasn’t going to cancel the duel and nothing you were willing to say would change his mind. Anything more, and you’d just get yourself hurt. You think once again, in that moment, back to your conversation with Sanji.
You’d known of your feelings all along, just hadn’t been able to realize it. But you’d finally let yourself admit how you felt about Zoro. Finally let the truth out and the relief you’d felt in that moment, to a man you’d only met that day no less, had been imminent.
You’d gotten ahead of yourself then. Forgot that you were the only one who believed in Luffy’s wish to be a crew. Forgot that all the people you’d met had their own goals and you were someone just drifting alongside with them until it came time for them to leave.
You forgot that your life wasn’t just being a part of Luffy's crew.
You forgot that even if Zoro felt anything of what you felt for him, you were still just some girl he’d rescued from a pirate and nothing more than that. Zoro had his own goals and dreams, and you weren’t part of them.
What about you?
Answer made clear, you turn and walk without another word.
Zoro doesn’t see the way tears fall from your face the second you’re out of sight and you don’t see the way his leg kicks out in frustration at himself for being so stupid.
-
It was clear Mihawk didn’t know who you were, despite being your father.
You couldn’t blame him, though. He’d never met you. He didn’t even know that the random woman he met that one day eighteen years ago and spent the night with, had ever gotten pregnant. It wasn’t like Dracule Mihawk to stick around places for long, after all.
And the only reason you even knew he was your father was because your mother had told you the day she died. In her deathbed, with your hand clutching hers, she’d whispered his name and told you if you ever needed help, to go to him.
Something told you he wouldn’t be helping you here.
You watch him best Zoro in every single one of his attacks. He dodges his attacks without even having to lift a finger. It’s a fight unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and the reality of watching Zoro unable to land any attacks is cruel and unforgiving.
Everything about this is cruel.
With your heart racing and your palms sweaty, you visibly flinch when Mihawk stabs Zoro with the tiny sword he told Zoro was the best match for their duel. It hits him directly in the chest, and you watch the flicker of pain in Zoro’s eyes as he stares his goal down.
And as you listen to Zoro refuse to give up, you can feel your heart tear into two.
Mihawk brings out Yoru. You watch as he unsheathes it from his back, heart plummeting. And you watch as Zoro places the Wado Ichimonji in his mouth, bringing the two black-handle katanas into either of his hands. This is it, you realize. This is the final attack.
After watching Zoro be unable to land one hit, you know this final one won’t be different.
There’s a moment of stilled silence, no one moves. And then, Zoro is running forward and Mihawk watches his pace. They clash, the sound of metal hitting metal reverberates in your mind, rattling your insides.
Zoro slides on his knees across the deck in front of Baratie, stopping just a few feet in front of you. He’s breathless, silent, and you feel your friends around you as you all watch with bated breath.
The two black-handle swords shatter into pieces.
The sob that wretches from your throat is beyond your control. It rips out of you, body shuddering in the reality you’re forced to face, watching as Zoro stands to his feet and turns to face Mihawk.
“You’re defeated,” Mihawk shakes his head. “Why do you persist?”
Sheathing the Wado Ichimonji, Zoro says without hesitation; “wounds on the back are a swordsman’s greatest shame.” Raising his arms in defeat, he holds them to his sides, waiting for Mihawk to make his final move.
“Magnificent.”
Tears welling in your eyes, you feel a hand slip into your own.
Glancing down first and then following the arm, you find Nami’s similarly tearful eyes staring back at you, squeezing your hand. You don’t know if it’s to comfort you or herself, but you appreciate it nonetheless. You turn to your other friends, seeing that Nami is holding Usopp’s hand too and he’s looking at you with concern. The final person you turn to is Luffy.
He meets your eye, and your whole body trembles.
You turn your head back in Zoro’s direction, and the second Mihawk’s arm swings to attack Zoro, you turn away again.
Your head tucks into Nami who startles at your movement, but her hand slips from your own to wrap her arm around you. You can’t see, but you hear the slice of skin and the sound of Zoro’s body hit the ground a minute later. You feel Nami’s body jerk in response.
“Zoro!”
-
Hugging your knees to your chest, you stare at Zoro. You let your eye drag across his sleeping figure, every curve of his face, the dip of his nose, all the way down to his chest, where his wound is tightly bandaged.
It was thanks to Sanji and the Baratie owner, Zeff, that Zoro’s wounds had been cleaned, stitched and dressed. It was thanks to them that Zoro even had a chance of surviving.
Talk to him. That’s what Zeff had said. The only thing any of you could do for Zoro now was talk to him and hope that that was enough to pull him from the purgatory between life and death.
You’d offered the first watch and no one had argued. Everyone was worried about Zoro in their own way, but the tears streaming down your cheeks and the visible mess you were in left no one willing to argue with you. One by one, everyone had left the room, with Luffy only glancing back at you one last time, before it was just you and Zoro.
You hadn’t moved from the spot since then.
That had been hours ago. Nami had come in at one point and asked if she could read to Zoro. you’d nodded without a word, sitting back but never leaving the room. Nami didn’t say anything and even if she had, you would’ve refused to leave. Luffy had followed her in shortly after and that had turned sour quickly when it was apparent that Nami felt Luffy held some responsibility for not telling Zoro to back out of the duel. You watched them argue, not saying a word. Then, Nami left.
“You should eat,” Luffy had said a minute after she walked out the door.
Never taking your eye off Zoro, you’d shaken your head. “I will when he wakes up.”
“Y/N, you—”
“When he wakes up.” The words had come out sharper than you intended and instantly, you’d felt guilt when you’d seen Luffy jerk at the sound. But you didn’t get up nor did you say anything else, and a minute later, Luffy left too.
That had been an hour ago. No one else had come in since.
You’d moved back to the chair next to Zoro, and let your hand slip into his and you hadn’t moved since.
Talk to him. How were you supposed to talk to him? What could you possibly say to him after everything that happened?
Head falling, you let out a shaky sigh.
“This is all my fault,” you whisper, barely even registering you’d said the words aloud. And as you breathe the words into existion, you realize that that was the only thing you could say.
Raising your head, you glance at Zoro’s face.
“I’m so sorry,” you say, squeezing his hand. “I should’ve… I should’ve told you the truth.”
Your chest feels tight, your body heavy. You know what you want to say, but you don’t know if you have the courage to speak the words. Mihawk was your father, it was true, but he meant nothing to you. That isn’t what made it hard to say. Not even seeing him in person for the first time today could make the feeling of indifference toward him fade. Mihawk didn’t even know who you were and he never would.
Today would’ve been your chance to tell him and it hadn’t even crossed your mind.
What you found hard to admit was that you’d been too scared to tell Zoro the truth and that cowardness is what got him hurt. If you had just been honest with him, maybe none of this wouldn’t have happened. Zoro wouldn’t have gotten hurt and nobody on the crew would be upset.
Why couldn’t you have just been honest?
“I was scared,” you tell Zoro. “Scared because there’s so much about my life I don’t know and the only thing I do know is so unimportant.” Breathing in sharply, you force the words out. “So what if Mihawk is my father? It hadn’t mattered before. But it mattered last night and I should’ve told you… If I told you, you wouldn’t be hurt and the crew wouldn’t have to be worried about you not waking up.”
Pressing your free hand to your forehead, you shake your head. “I’m so sorry, Zoro,” you sob, feeling your eyes water as curl into yourself. “I’m so sorry because you’re hurt and because I think I may love you… and my life is so utterly unimportant that you deserve better than someone like me… Someone who will just ruin your life.”
Your hand leaves his, pressing against your lips as you let yourself cry. You let yourself cry out the anguish in your chest that weighs you down and hurts. You cry and cry, stifling your sobs behind your hand, letting it all out.
Until, eventually, you fall asleep from the exhaustion.
The exhaustion of not sleeping the night before, of being tense and terrified for Zoro, for the guilt that feels like it might eat you alive.
You stay like that for a while, until soft hands gently shake you awake.
“Come on, love. Wake up.”
Letting out a soft groan, your eyes flutter at the voice, hands moving instinctively to rub at your eyes. It takes you a second to wake yourself up, confused as you slowly straighten out. You first see Zoro before your head turns, and your eye falls on Sanji who’s standing behind you.
“Sanji?”
“You need to eat,” Sanji says, ushering you. “Come on.”
You turn back to Zoro, licking your dry lips. “I shouldn’t leave him.”
Your eyes are puffy and your eyelids ache. The last thing you remember is crying, and it occurs to you you’d fallen asleep in the midst of your break down.
“Luffy can watch him,” Sanji offers, gesturing behind him.
Turning towards the door, Luffy smiles at you warmly.
“I’ll watch Zoro for you, Y/N. I promise I’ll take good care of him.”
Dazed and still a little sleepy, you let Sanji pull you to your feet, not fighting his grip as he guides you towards the door. You glance back at Zoro one last time, feeling that crushing guilt stab at you, just as Luffy squeezes your shoulder.
“He’ll wake up, Y/N,” Luffy grins at you. “I promise.”
You nod at him, finding his words reassuring and comforting despite the doubt festering inside you.
“I’ll whip you up something tasty, Y/N.” Sanji smiles softly down at you, “okay?”
He’s incredibly gentle the entire time. You relish in it.
-
“Can I have a moment alone with him?”
Meeting Nami’s eyes, you nod, moving to stand. She sends you a smile, though it seems off, as you walk past her.
Letting the door fall shut behind you, you make your way into the kitchen. You bite your lip, trying to ignore the nerves rattling your body. After Nami had come running into the kitchen where you and Sanji were, you eating after he’d made you a meal like he promised, it was instantly clear something was wrong. She had been going on about some pirate named Arlong, calling for Luffy in between explaining to you. Most importantly, she looked terrified.
Turns out Arlong was attacking Baratie looking for Luffy and the Grand Line map.
Nami’s attempt at getting Luffy to take the Going Merry and run had been fruitless and he, Sanji and Usopp had gone to confront Arlong. Luffy had told Nami to stay behind to protect the map, before turning to you and telling you to watch over Zoro for him. When you’d tried to argue and say you could help, he’d just shaken his head and said you were still healing from your last fight and Zoro was more important.
So, for the last twenty or so minutes, you and Nami were in the Going Merry. She’d disappeared elsewhere on the ship the second the three left, so you assigned yourself back next to Zoro, opting to read to him like Nami had before in the hopes that maybe that’d get him to wake up.
You had, at least, until Nami had popped her head into the room.
You hoped everything was going well. Honestly, you did want to go out and check on them, but you knew Luffy was right. Even if he hadn’t said it in that way, it was clear he didn’t want you coming because you didn’t know how to fight. You’d be more of a hindrance than any help and that reality left a sour taste in your mouth.
Hearing footsteps approach, you turn, face easing when you see Nami coming out of the room.
“Everything okay?” You ask, despite knowing in fact nothing was okay.
She nods, stepping out of the room and you smile at her as you walk past her, squeezing her shoulder in an attempt to comfort both her and yourself. You think nothing of the look on her face, chalking it up to everything that had and is happening just making her a little off.
At least, until you hear the door slam shut behind you.
Stilling right next to Zoro, your head snaps towards the door. You hesitate for a moment, baffled, before your feet instinctively carry you towards it, hand falling on the knob. Maybe she’d shut it by accident? Or maybe she wanted to give you privacy as you had for her?
Except, the door won’t open when you turn it.
“N-Nami?”
You know she’s by the door. You can see her shadow through the small opening at the bottom. You can hear her heavy breathing.
“Nami,” you call again, voice louder. “Why is the door locked?”
There’s a moment that passes before she answers.
“Sorry, Y/N. I can’t let you out.”
“What?” You breathe, bewildered. There’s something awful twisting in your chest. You try the door again, it doesn’t open. “Nami, what the hell is going on? What are you doing?”
“I’m doing what I always planned to do.”
Her voice is muffled through the door, but the low tone scares you all the same.
Using your left hand, you slam it against the door. “Let me out, Nami. Now.”
“You’ll be safe in there.”
You hear her take a step toward and your heart lurches, yanking on the door as you start to pound against it more aggressively. “Nami?”
“I’m sorry.”
You see her shadow disappear and soon, her footsteps are gone too. You stand there, stunned, before you start to yank on the door again. You pull at it, trying to twist it. But it’s clearly jammed shut.
Nami had made sure you weren’t going to be able to get out.
Minutes pass of you banging on the door, with no luck, until eventually you tire yourself out.
Head hanging in your hands, you try to ignore the shake of your body as you sit there, forced to wait.
At the first sound of footsteps, you jump to your feet.
“Hey!” You call, banging on the door. “Luffy? Usopp?”
“Y/N?”
It’s Usopp.
Yanking on the door, you call out to him; “let me out!”
It takes him no more than a few seconds to open the door, yanking it open as you meet his eyes with relief.
“Usopp,” you breathe, “you have to listen to me. It’s Nami. She—”
You move to ramble out what had happened, but fall silent the second you see the look on Usopp’s face.
“Usopp?” You question, voice quiet. “Why are you…?”
Just then Sanji comes stumbling down the stairs of the kitchen, with Luffy in his arms, the latter looking beat up and hurt. Both of them are sopping wet.
Your eyes widen.
“Nami, she…” Usopp speaks up, looking nervous. “She betrayed us.”
-
“Y/N, seriously!”
Shaking your head, you stumble behind Usopp. “Seriously what, Usopp?”
You’re mildly annoyed, but you figure he has a good reason—whatever that reason is. He hasn’t elected to tell you yet.
You’d been getting some sleep after Luffy had practically forced you to, letting you sleep in his and the rest of the guys’ cabin since Zoro was currently occupying yours and… Nami’s. After everything that has happened, it was clear you all needed some time to digest and recoup. Even though you’d been reluctant to leave Zoro’s side, you also knew you needed some sleep or you were going to make yourself sick.
And a twenty minute sob-induced cat nap hunched over a bed didn’t count.
Only, your sleep had been cut short but Usopp all but ran into your room, yelling your name with a wide grin on his face. You couldn’t even possibly begin to think what he could be smiling about given that everything was the worst it could be, but you didn’t get the chance to ask either before he was yanking you to your feet and dragging you with him.
“Usopp—”
Whatever you’d been about to say falls silent, however, when you realize where Usopp is leading you. Body freezing, you turn to him, him already grinning at you, letting the two of you come to a stop. You glance at him, then the room, and then realize you hear a very familiar voice speaking.
Your feet move before you can stop yourself.
All chatter stops the second you come running into the room, and sure enough, still on the bed, Zoro stares back at you, but awake.
“Y/N, look, Zoro’s—!”
You don’t let Luffy finish. You don’t even really hear him speak. You run over to the other side of the bed in seconds and practically fall onto Zoro. In your excitement, you forget about his wounds, to which Zoro groans in response to your hug. Your eyes widen, your first word to him about to be ‘sorry’, as you scramble to pull back.
His arm falls around your waist before you can.
Stilling in his hold, and now careful to not let your weight fall on him, he holds you for a moment, the entire room distinctly quiet.
Then, his arm leaves and you pull back, staring down at him.
“Hey,” you breathe, unable to stop the curl of your lips. Despite everything, that short greeting is what feels right.
It’s all you can manage.
His lips curve into a soft smile; “hey.”
-
Raising your hand, you softly knock on the door.
Zoro’s head snaps towards you, easing when he realizes it’s you.
You step into the room with a gentle smile, and nod at him; “let me.” You offer, gesturing loosely to the bandages surrounding him. “I got pretty good at it after…” You let your voice trail, and Zoro huffs.
“I’d bet. You never let anyone help you.”
Sitting next to him, you shrug. “I could do it on my own.” Laughing quietly, you pick up the bandages that are wildly thrown about the bed. “Unlike you.”
Zoro scoffs but he doesn’t stop you as you start to unwrap the bandages he’d loosely wrapped around himself, redoing it.
Silence echoes for a moment, before Zoro speaks up.
“I can’t believe the waiter is joining us.”
Huffing a laugh, you roll your eye. “Sanji is nice,” you defend. “And a good fighter I hear from Luffy.”
Zoro frowns. “He’s a waiter.”
You just shake your head, snorting to yourself.
Then, you hesitate, hands hovering. You can't help but ask, since it’s been weighing on you since she’d left. “You think Nami meant it all? That she never actually cared about us?”
“Don’t know,” he shrugs. “Maybe.”
Biting your lip, you frown. You don’t want that to be the truth.
“Y/N.”
His voice is serious as he calls for you, and it makes you freeze.
“I heard you.”
Your muscles tense, and you refuse to let your gaze wander from your hands, fiddling with your fingers.
Zoro doesn’t let you. In the next second, his hand is falling over your own, pulling them away from what you’d been doing. Your lips part as he does, heart fluttering as he shifts his hand so his fingers threads through yours instead of just being wrapped around your wrist.
Your cheeks warm instantly.
“Y/N. Look at me.”
His voice is raspy from being asleep for so long. It sends shivers down your spine.
Still, you listen, raising your head and meeting his eyes.
“I didn’t think you could hear me,” you whisper.
“I could,” he nods. “About your father and…” His voice trails.
Swallowing thickly, you choose to focus on the first thing first. “I… Does it bother you?”
Zoro’s lips part, stunned at your forwardness and you realize your mistake.
“About… Mihawk.”
“Oh,” he breathes. “No.”
It’s not what you’re expecting. He says it so bluntly, so sure of himself.
“It… doesn’t?”
“You have your reasons,” he shrugs, still holding your hand. “And it wouldn’t have changed my mind. Defeating Mihawk is my goal, that won’t change.”
His words hurt you, but you also know that you have no right to argue otherwise.
“I’m still sorry you got hurt.”
Zoro shakes his head. “It wasn’t your fault.” Then, when you don’t respond, he squeezes your hand. “It wasn’t.”
His voice is sharp and leaves no room for argument.
You nod. “Thank you,” you say, “I’m… so relieved you’re okay.”
Zoro breathes in sharply, and then he lowers his hand, taking yours with him.
There’s a beat of silence, then; “I think I love you too.”
It seems that Zoro is just full of surprises at that moment.
Body turning rigid, you blink at him.
His cheeks have a light flush and he’s now the one turned away. “I… You were wrong… I don’t deserve someone better than you. I… I want you.”
“Zoro…”
He turns back to you, quickly, as if the words are both hard to speak but leaving him before he can stop himself. “But I… I don’t know how to be… I don't know how to be with you,” he explains, the words awkward and forced. You can tell he’s trying, words stumbling off the tip of his tongue. “I’ve only had one friend in my life and she’s dead. Before you guys, I had no one. I don’t know how to be someone you can depend on.”
You let his words sink in and you take in the look on his face. He’s embarrassed, you can tell, but he’s waiting for you to respond, patiently. You realize he’s leaving the decision up to you.
You think of, once again, your conversation with Sanji. You think of how you felt when Zoro had been unconscious in that bed. You think of everything that’s happened.
“I…” You start, voice soft. “I don’t know how to either,” you explain, shoulders dropping with the weight of your confession. “I’ve been alone for so long too, Zoro. And at first I wasn’t going to say anything. I didn’t understand my feelings so I was just going to ignore them. But then… seeing you fight like that and get hurt… waiting for you to wake up… I know that it can happen again. To either of us. I know that neither of us will ever be completely safe. I know you will never give up on your goal.”
Zoro frowns, and there’s a flicker of disappointment in his gaze.
It’s you who squeezes his hand this time, pulling his attention back on you.
“But I don’t want to do any of that without you,” you finish. “I… want to do this all with you. I want to save Nami with you. I want to explore the Grand Line with you. I want to help you complete your goal. Not just as your friend but more.”
The second you finish, breathless, Zoro is pulling you towards him. His actions speak louder than words and it seems his instincts allow him to act without any fluster of embarrassment. It pulls a gasp from your lips but you don’t stop him, hands falling on his shoulders as you lean into his touch. You’re careful of his wounds as he tugs you into his lap, his hands settling on your hips as his forehead falls against yours, breathing heavily.
“Fuck,” he inhales sharply, before shuddering a breath. “Can I kiss you?”
You smile at his response, thinking it’s so very Zoro, and nod. “Please.”
His lips are on yours instantly, pulling you close to him as you cup his cheeks, letting your hands thread through his hair. Your stomach flutters at the kiss, feeling your insides turn to jelly at the sensation. His hands on your skin feel like fire in the best way possible, molding your lips against his as he tugs you closer and closer even when there’s nowhere else for you to go.
You let your nails drag across his scalp, his lips warm and soft against your own.
And then, just as your lips part to allow his tongue to slip inside, a voice calls out;
“Zoro!”
You both pull back, startled. Zoro groans softly as he twists his body wrong, agitating his wound while your head snaps round to see Luffy.
He pauses, hovering at the door, at the sight of you two, you on Zoro’s lap with the both of you looking thoroughly flushed.
Luffy looks confused.
“Luffy,” Zoro huffs, pressing his hand to his forehead, one still gripping your hip, as you laugh quietly to yourself. “Leave.”
Oblivious as always, Luffy just nods; “sure thing, Zoro.”
You’re positive you’ll be getting an earful from Usopp later.
His footsteps fade and you turn back to Zoro, giggling.
“He never knocks,” Zoro groans, pulling at his hair.
You pull his hand away, moving instead to hold it. Zoro flushes at the action.
“That’s okay,” you shrug. “I imagine it’ll be like that a lot.”
Zoro only groans further at the thought, but he knows you’re right.
You move to stand, slipping off his lap and panicking when you realize you didn’t finish bandaging him properly. Zoro laughs as you fuss over him, moving when you tell him to and watching you with amused eyes.
Just as you sit down next to him, though, he whispers out;
“Together, then.”
You blink at his words, cheeks still a light flush, before you remember your earlier words.
You smile; “together.”

End of Chapter Note: I know that I’ve made the reader Mihawk’s daughter who is canonically light-skinned. I have left the readers mother open to try and be as ambiguous and inclusive as possible. Apologies to anyone that finds this detail stops them from being able to “insert” themselves into the story.

Do you seriously, actually ship it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay. Lets talk. Because apparently some of you are defending... well... "that" (under the cut)
"He's autistic! It was a stim!"
If you genuinely think that this has ANYTHING to do with autism, you are an objectively stupid person. Like, your brain is so fucking smooth, it puts the surface of freshly tempered glass to shame. You're a barely functional reprobate with subhuman intelligence who has no idea how to form thoughts so you let a 50 year old billionaire who spends too much time on his phone decide your thought process for you.
"He was throwing his heart out to the crowd!"
Now, I don't really play baseball, basketball, netball, or any sport where you throw anything other than sometimes darts, but... is that how you throw? You perfectly extend your arm at that angle? Twice? After spending years posting tweets that very much align with Nazi viewpoints? Do you throw a pitch in baseball and scream SIEG HEIL as the ball hurtles towards your opponent? No. Stop being a fucking idiot. This was deliberate. He did it twice.
"He's autistic! He doesn't know better!"
Please comment if you actually think this so I can personally call you a stupid cunt and block you. We absolutely do know better. Autism and Nazism aren't mutually exclusive.
"You're inhibiting his free speech!"
1st amendment only applies to censorship from government positions of power, which I am not, as should be obvious from the fact that I have no power to censor him. Though I shouldn't have to explain that.
"Well, he's gonna get away with it so stop being so sensitive!"
Yes. He is. But that's not a flex, that's A FUCKING MASSIVE PROBLEM. Call me sensitive if you want, but absolutely every single one of you should be offended by this. Did you pay attention in history class, or were you too tired after a long night of being fucking railed raw and bone dry by propaganda on Twitter? Moron.
"Well, he's rich and you're not, so there!"
Yep. Got me there. He's rich, and I'm not. Yknow, Hitler and a lot of Nazi officers were pretty minted too. So was Epstein, King Leopold, Stalin, Jimmy Saville, every MP currently serving in parliament... but sure, they're great people because they're rich, right?
"You're just a stupid offended libtard!"
Google "The Holocaust".
"Well, you're still using his app!"
His app? You mean the one he bought, then fucking ruined because he has no idea how to run it, right? And you because its basically impossible to find mutuals as a vtuber without it, you knew that, right? "His" app, please, you probably think Ronald McDonald makes your burger when you order McDonalds, you moron.
"If we punish Elon for this, then that's a violation of the first amendment!"
You mean like banning tiktok, removing any and all talk of election rigging, then putting it back up the next day? Or maybe like deleting any criticisms of you and your nazi salutes under your recent tweets despite it blowing up everywhere else? Or does that not count because its something you agree with? Yeah. You've been cucked harder than Sneako and you don't even realize it. Elon and his government buddies are leaving your free speech rights looking like this
Tumblr media
Aaaaanyway
I find it well and truly laughable that so many people like Elon will say all this insane shit and do all these fucking heinous things and people will defend them. Like how that gun woman who shit herself says stuff like "I'm not homophobic, I just think gay people are disgusting and that they should die" or that comedian nobody finds funny anymore spends hours whining about trans people but says he's not transphobic.
Lets all be on the same page for once and have the balls to say what we actually think. Elon got so close, but being a spineless edgelord who doesn't have the balls to just say what he thinks out loud is quite the weakness.

Ben and Mal had both agreed to bring more kids from the Isle of the Lost to Auradon, hoping to bridge the gap between the two worlds. They believed that by giving more kids from the Isle a chance to experience the opportunities in Auradon, they could create understanding and unity. Y/n Pan, always up for an adventure, was right in the middle of it. Her role was simple, distracting Uma’s crew or more specifically Harry Hook.
Y/n found Harry by the docks, where the salty sea breeze rustled through the sails of Uma’s ship. Harry was leaning against a post, his hook glinting in the light as he lazily flipped it between his fingers. His ocean blue eyes were distant, lost in thoughts that were quickly interrupted by Y/n's arrival.
"Hey there, Hook." she called out, her voice laced with playful mischief. She sauntered towards him, each step measured, as if she were a cat stalking its prey.
Harry's eyes narrowed as she approached, his guard instantly up. "What do ye want, lass?" he asked, his tone playful but laced with suspicion.
Y/n grinned, her eyes sparkling with a mix of challenge and amusement. "Just thought I'd see what the infamous Harry Hook was up to. You know, keep you company," she said, her voice dripping with flirtation.
Harry's suspicion deepened, his grip tightening around the handle of his hook. "Company, huh? More like a distraction," he shot back, leaning closer, his voice dropping to a low, seductive whisper, Holding his hook to her chin. "What is Mal up to now?"
Y/n shrugged nonchalantly, her posture relaxed despite the tension radiating from Harry. She tilted her head, her expression one of feigned innocence. "Wouldn't you like to know?" she teased, a sly smile playing on her lips.
Harry's jaw clenched, and he took a step closer to her, his eyes boring into hers. "Aye, I would," he said, his voice a dangerous growl. "And ye'd best start talking, or else—"
"Or else what?" Y/n interrupted, her tone light and mocking. "You'll wave that hook of yours around? Come on, Harry, you're not scaring anyone."
Harry's eyes flashed with anger, but he took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm. He knew better than to let someone provoke him. "You think you're clever, don't you?" he muttered.
Y/n laughed, a musical sound that seemed to echo around the docks. "I know I am." she replied confidently, her eyes locking onto his. "But seriously, Harry, why the hostility? Can't a girl just want to chat without underlying motives?"
"Not when that girl is from Auradon and her friends are here too." Harry retorted, his curiosity piqued despite himself.
Y/n sighed, rolling her eyes dramatically. "You really are paranoid, aren't you? Maybe I just wanted to see if the stories about you were true."
Harry raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite himself. "And what stories might those be?" he asked, leaning in closer, his eyes never leaving hers.
Y/n leaned in closer, her lips almost brushing his ear as she whispered, "That you're the most dangerous pirate on the Isle." her eyes danced with mischief. She pulled back slightly, letting her gaze travel slowly over him before meeting his eyes again. "But all I see is a boy who's all bark and no bite."
Harry's eyes flared with anger, but before he could respond, a commotion from further up the Isle caught his attention. He glanced over Y/n's shoulder, his expression darkening. Y/n took the opportunity to slip out of his grasp and follow his gaze, seeing Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos helping four new Isle kids into the limousine.
"Looks like your distraction worked," Harry muttered, his voice laced with frustration.
Y/n turned back to him, her smile playful and triumphant. "Looks like it did," she grinned, her eyes sparkling with teasing challenge. "Better luck next time, Hook." She threw him a wink before sauntering away, leaving him staring after her. As she rejoined the others, she couldn't help but feel a thrill of victory. The mission was a success, and they had managed to bring more kids from the Isle to Auradon.
-----
Over the next few days as Y/n sneaked often on the Isle, their encounters became more frequent. It seemed like every time Harry turned around, Y/n was there, always with a witty remark ready and a mischievous glint in her eyes. Harry found himself increasingly intrigued by Y/n. She was different from anyone he had ever met, fearless, spirited, and maddeningly hard to pin down. He would catch glimpses of her around the Isle, always just out of reach, slipping away before he could get too close.
One afternoon, Harry was on the docks again, lost in thought, when he heard the now familiar sound of Y/n’s laughter. He turned to see her balancing on the edge of a barrel, arms outstretched, grinning as if she didn’t have a care in the world. He couldn’t help but be drawn to her carelessness and the effortless way she seemed to navigate the chaotic world of the Isle.
Their eyes met, and she hopped down, walking over with that same teasing smile. "Missed me, Hook?" she asked, her tone light and flirtatious.
"Not in the slightest," he retorted, though the smirk on his face betrayed his words.
"Sure," she said with a wink, then jumped away before he could reply.
Each encounter left Harry more captivated, his curiosity about her growing. She was a mystery he wanted to solve, a challenge he was determined to meet. But everything changed when he discovered her true identity.
It happened one evening when he overheard a conversation between Y/n and a few little kids from the Isle. Harry was lurking in the shadows, trying to get a sense of what Mal and her friends might be planning next. He froze when he heard Y/n mention her father.
"My father always told me—"
"Wait," one of the kids interrupted. "Your father is Peter Pan?"
Harry's blood ran cold. Peter Pan. The name that haunted his nightmares, the source of his family's suffering. He stepped out of the shadows, his face contorted with rage. "You!" he spat, eyes blazing with anger. "You're Pan's brat!"
Y/n turned to face him, crossing her arms, unfazed by his outburst. "That's right, Hook. Got a problem with that?"
He sneered, the name 'Pan' dripping with venom. "Of course I do. Your father is the reason my family suffered."
Y/n's playful demeanor faltered for a moment, her eyes softening. "I'm not my father, Harry." she said quietly, a hint of vulnerability in her voice.
Harry took a step closer, his anger warring with the confusing feelings he had developed over the past few days. "Doesn't matter." he growled. "You're still a Pan."
Y/n held his gaze, her expression resolute. "And you're still a Hook. But that doesn’t mean we have to be enemies."
Harry's sneer faded slightly as he considered her words. There was something about the way she looked at him, something that made him want to believe her. But the wounds of the past were deep, and the name 'Pan' was a constant reminder of everything he had lost.
"Why should I trust you?" he asked, his voice a mix of anger and uncertainty.
"Because I'm not here to hurt you, Harry. I'm here to make things better." Y/n said, stepping closer, her eyes searching his. "I want to help bridge the gap between our worlds. But I can't do it alone."
Harry hesitated, his heart and mind at war. He had spent so long hating everything connected to Peter Pan, but Y/n was different. She was offering him a chance to move past the hatred, to find a new path.
"Maybe," he said finally, his voice softer, almost hesitant. "Maybe we can try."
Y/n smiled, a genuine, warm smile that made Harry's heart skip a beat. "That's all I'm asking for, Harry. A chance."
But as she walked away, the words "Peter Pan" echoed in Harry's mind, reigniting the anger and bitterness he had held onto for so long. He watched her go, the conflict within him far from over. Trusting a Pan, even one as intriguing as Y/n, was no small feat for Harry Hook.
Harry clenched his fist around his hook, his eyes narrowing. "All Pans are the same." he muttered under his breath. No matter how charming or different Y/n seemed, she was still a Pan, and Harry knew better than to trust anyone with that name. His mind was made up, he would never let go of his hatred, and he would never trust Y/n Pan.
-----
Despite their initial dislike, Y/n and Harry were forced to work together when Audrey took Maleficent's wand, and chaos threatened to engulf Auradon. Mal had been spelled by Audrey, and they needed all hands on deck to help her and get Hades ember back on the isle.
The air was thick with tension as Y/n and Harry found themselves side by side in the bridge of the Isle to Auradon, their previous friction simmering just beneath the surface. Uma stood confidently, her gaze flickering between the two unlikely allies and Mal, who was pleading for the ember that could save Auradon.
"Well, and who is this?" Uma said with a mocking smile, her gaze landing on Harry and Y/n. "Seems like you’re in quite a tight spot."
"Cut the games, Uma," Mal snapped. "We need that ember to break a spell Audrey cast. People’s lives are at stake."
Uma’s eyes gleamed with mischief as she held up the ember, her grip protective. "And why should I just hand it over? What’s in it for me?"
Mal’s frustration was palpable. "We can negotiate, but not right now. The urgency of the situation—"
Uma interrupted with a smirk. "Oh, I’m sure it’s very urgent. But I need a guarantee. Every single villain kid who wants out gets a chance to leave the Isle."
"I can’t promise that," Mal said, shaking her head.
Uma’s face hardened, her eyes narrowing. "Then we’ve got a problem. How about a deal? If you can assure me of that, I’ll consider returning the ember."
Mal’s shoulders sagged in resignation. "Deal," she agreed through gritted teeth.
Uma’s grin widened. "Good but don’t think I’m going to just hand this over easily. If you think I’m going to trust you to fix everything on your own, think again. This is a job for pirates!"
Harry’s eyes were fixed on Uma with immense respect. He glanced at Y/n, a scowl still present on his face. "Looks like we’re working together." he muttered, his tone heavy with irritation.
Y/n shot him a sharp look, her patience wearing thin. "Let’s just get this done. We don’t have time for your grudges."
Harry snorted, not bothering to mask his contempt. "Yeah, sure. Just remember, this doesn’t mean I’m suddenly going to like you. I’m only here to follow my captain."
"Fine by me," Y/n retorted, her voice cold. "Just stay out of my way."
-----
As they arrived at the castle and night deepened, the castle’s hallways seemed to press in on them, their shadows flickering like restless spirits. Harry and Y/n, though still struggling with their complex feelings, moved together with a newfound sense of cooperation. Their earlier tension had softened, if only slightly, as they navigated the castle hallways in search of Ben.
The silence between them was accentuated by the occasional murmur from Uma and Mal, who were engaged in their own banter. Uma’s taunt broke the quiet. “I bet you lost some sleep thinking about me on the loose, huh?”
Mal raised an eyebrow, her response dripping with disinterest. “No. Dragons don’t really lose sleep. I was more curious about what fried octopus tastes like.”
Evie, ever the mediator, interjected with a hopeful tone. “Okay, why do we always have to focus on the negatives? Why not appreciate the adventure we’re on?”
Mal and Uma shared a look that seemed to say they’d heard this speech before. “We’re celebrating our differences,” Uma quipped, her smirk widening.
Harry, who had been lost in thought, suddenly became more alert as the doors closed behind them. “I believe we’re being challenged.”
Before anyone could question him, the echo of clanking metal interrupted their conversation. The sound grew louder, more insistent, until enchanted armor guards emerged from the shadows, their eyes glowing with dark magic. The armor moved with a jerky, unnatural precision, and the creak of metal against metal filled the air.
“Girls! We have a situation here!” Harry’s voice cut through the chaos.
Without hesitation, the group sprang into action. Y/n, ever light footed, darted towards one of the armored guards, her sword clashing against the enchanted steel. Harry, though visibly annoyed, couldn’t help but notice Y/n’s grace and determination. He found himself instinctively moving to her side, fending off a guard that had swung its sword towards her.
“Watch your back!” Harry shouted, his voice tinged with frustration, though beneath the irritation, there was an unmistakable edge of concern. “Do you ever stop getting into trouble?”
Y/n shot him a quick, appreciative glance, her movements fluid as she took down another guard. “Got it, Harry. I’ll try not to make you worry too much,” she said with a playful smirk, the gratitude in her eyes softening the edges of her teasing tone.
Despite his best efforts to remain distant, Harry’s protective instincts were clear. He parried blows with precision, making sure Y/n had a clear path to strike. The two fought side by side, their coordination improving with each passing second. Harry’s earlier reluctance was replaced with a focused intensity, his actions betraying his true feelings.
In the midst of the battle, Y/n turned to Harry with a teasing grin. “So, Harry, I’ve been meaning to ask, do you always scowl like that, or is it just when you’re around me?”
Harry’s stern demeanor faltered momentarily as he deflected a guard’s attack. A rare, genuine chuckle escaped him. “I suppose you bring out the best in me.”
Y/n’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Well, I wouldn’t want you to be anything less than your charming self.”
Harry’s smirk was short lived, quickly replaced by his familiar scowl. “Don’t get used to it. I’m still not going to be nice to you.”
Y/n’s grin widened as she ducked under a swinging sword, her playful energy undiminished. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
With the enchanted guards finally defeated, the room fell into a brief, uneasy silence. The group came together, catching their breath and assessing the situation.
“Let’s move,” Mal said, her voice firm and urgent. “We still have to find Audrey and end this.”
-----
As the final battle raged outside Auradon prep, the chaos intensified with every passing moment. Mal and Audrey's confrontation crackled with magic, while Uma helped to turn the tide in their favor. Amidst the commotion, Harry and Y/n found themselves close together, their earlier hostility replaced with an unexpected closeness.
During the battle, an explosive burst of energy from Audrey’s attack sent shockwaves through the ground. Harry’s protective instincts kicked in, and he abruptly pulled Y/n behind him, shielding her from any possible danger.
“Stay behind me!” Harry said, his voice filled with authority and urgency as he faced where Mal and Audrey were still in a heated battle. His usual scowl was replaced with a fierce determination to keep Y/n safe.
Y/n, caught off guard, blinked up at him in surprise. “Harry, what—”
Before she could finish her question, Harry's hand tightened around hers, his grip firm and reassuring. “Just stay close, alright?” His tone was less harsh and more protective, revealing an underlying care he hadn’t shown before.
Y/n’s confusion turned into a playful smirk as she tilted her head. “You know, I thought you hated me. Now you’re acting like my personal bodyguard?”
Harry’s eyes met hers, and for a moment, the intensity of the battle seemed to fade. “I might have had my issues with you,” he admitted, his voice softer, “but I’ve got to admit, I’m not letting you get hurt.”
Y/n’s playful expression softened into one of genuine warmth. “I never knew you cared, Hook,” she teased lightly, her heart fluttering at his unexpected protectiveness.
Harry’s face twitched with a hesitant smile. “Don’t get used to it,” he said, though his eyes betrayed his true feelings. “But for now, just stay behind me.”
As the last echoes of battle faded and the castle grounds began to calm, Harry and Y/n stood close, their earlier friction now replaced with an undeniable connection. The night sky above them sparkled with stars, casting a calming glow over the school grounds.
Harry, with his usual confidence restored, looked at Y/n with a playful yet intense gaze. “You know, Pan, I’ve had quite a few realizations tonight,” he said, his voice smooth and flirtatious.
Y/n, her heart fluttering at his tone, tilted her head with a teasing smile. “Oh really? And what exactly did you realize?”
Harry stepped closer, his gaze locked on hers. “I realized that despite your troublemaker ways and that pesky Pan name, there’s something about you that’s irresistible. And I’m not one to back down from what I want.”
Y/n’s smile widened, her eyes twinkling with both affection and challenge. “Is that so?”
Harry’s smirk grew. “Absolutely. Though, if it really bothers me, I could always change that name of yours to Hook instead of Pan. Seems fitting, don’t you think?”
Without missing a beat, Harry closed the distance between them, his confidence radiating. He cupped her face gently with one hand, his thumb brushing her cheek. “But for now, let’s focus on what really matters.”
Before Y/n could respond, Harry pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss. The world around them seemed to blur as his lips moved against hers with a fervor that spoke of all the feelings he’d kept hidden. The kiss was filled with intensity and emotion, leaving no room for doubt about his feelings.
When they finally pulled apart, their breaths mingling in the cool night air, Harry’s eyes were filled with a mix of satisfaction and tenderness. Y/n’s cheeks were flushed, and her smile was both shy and radiant.
As Y/n whispered, “I promise I’ll try to be less of a troublemaker.” Harry leaned in, his lips brushing her ear as he spoke in a low, teasing whisper.
“I don’t think so, darling. That’s exactly what I like about you.” he murmured, his breath warm against her skin. “You’re never boring, and that makes you even more irresistible.”
Y/n’s laughter was soft and delighted, her hand still clasped in his. “I guess I’ll have to keep you on your toes then.”
Harry’s grin widened, his eyes dancing with mischief and affection. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Just as they were lost in their moment, Uma’s voice cut through the night air, filled with annoyance. “Seriously, you two? Major battle just finished and you’re over here making out? Can we have one minute without you two being all lovey-dovey?”
Harry and Y/n broke apart, their faces flushed with a mix of embarrassment and amusement. Harry chuckled, giving Y/n a playful wink before turning to Uma. “Well, Uma, can’t blame us for wanting to celebrate, can you?”
Uma rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide a small, amused smile. “Whatever. It’s great that you two don’t hate each other anymore, but we’ve got a lot to sort out. So let’s keep the PDA to a minimum, okay?”
Y/n laughed, her hand still in Harry’s as they joined the others. “Don’t worry, Uma. We’ll keep our celebration within reason.”
As they rejoined their friends, the air around them was filled with a sense of newfound joy and promise. The battles of the day were behind them, and the future ahead seemed full of potential, excitement, and undeniable chemistry. Harry and Y/n, now more connected than ever, faced the world with a renewed sense of purpose and affection.

Entry 8: The One About the Adjacent of Convenience
Are you guys ready to return to our regularly scheduled programme?
Actually, I must applaud the majority of the people who read my blog for how well they handled Sunday. It seemed many of you got a good laugh out of it and were then gifted Monday morning with an updated post from that dear restauranteur tossing out Lady Whistledown’s name for – honestly, I don’t know why he threw it out there. Do you?
Moving on…
Yesterday, I discussed Antonia. Today, I am going to venture over to the other side of the fandom and discuss – you guessed it – Jake Dunn.
And, no, I’m not summoning the Balrog today. In fact, I don’t equate Jake to a creature from the depths of Moria because, generally speaking, he doesn’t bother me.
Do I find him a tad annoying? Of course I do. But, only because the perception of his relationship with Nicola has been warped into something ass backwards (no pun intended) to anyone with two bits of common sense, and because he’s always inconveniently there.
At the right time.
For those pap pictures.
However, the rational side of my brain reminds me that if I don’t see anything romantic in Nicola’s relationships with, say, JVN, Mark, Golda, Jack, or either of the Dylans, I shouldn’t be bothered by her relationship with Jake. Would we be paying any attention to Jake if he wasn’t being shoved down our throats by anti-Lukolas? No, probably not.
But, here we are.
I will preface this entry with my belief that Jake did not ask to be linked romantically to Nicola. That was Deux Moi's doing. Keep that in mind as you read through this. Deux Moi created that bullshit plotline and then rabid dogs ran with it.
By the way, those are the people you should be worried about. The ones pushing their “Jakola” narratives with blind aggression. I’m talking about those “in your face” assholes whose real motive behind shipping Nicola with anyone-but-Luke is solely based on their rapid-fire hatred towards Luke. These people are not Jakolas; these people are the Jakholes.
*Oh, now is the time to slip this in… My disclaimer (or, my “ask”) for today is, let’s not pick on the Sincerely Ignorant Jakola shippers. They are just as volatile as the Sincerely Ignorant Lukola shippers. They spiral fast and hard, too. Seriously, don’t fuck with these people, please. I believe most of them to be nice people.
Thank you, next.
I know that some of you will argue that Jake is a manipulative little shit and intentionally tried to make connections between Nicola and himself by way of pictures in her personal spaces and a fucking bucket hat, and that may be true. In fact, I’ve heard this argument from Lukolas that I highly respect. It’s very possible Jake has taken advantage of his friendship with Nicola. I understand the argument behind this theory and, I’ll be honest, it has made me question Jake’s character.
But, that’s not the point I’m trying to make today.
Today, I want to focus on how Jake became an “adjacent of convenience.”
What is that exactly? Well, actually, I just now made that shit up. But, it means he’s an adjacent, not because he’s romantically involved with Nicola, but rather he was in the wrong place at the right time.
It’s funny to me, when you spend some time mapping out all the little nuances that make up the Lukola timeline, that you start seeing a bigger picture.
I do not know who was behind Papsmear. Word on the street is that it was Deux Moi. I don’t know if anyone has ever actually confirmed that so, for now, I can only speculate – and speculate I will!
If you look at events in chronological order, it is interesting that, in July, the day before a video of Luke and Antonia at the GQ dinner hit social media, Deux Moi posted old pictures of Luke and Antonia from, I believe, January. Why? It’s also interesting that the day before People Magazine published the Italy Pap pictures of Luke and Antonia, Deux Moi rehashed Papsmear. Again, why?
Do you see the patterns patterning?
I thought you would.
Then what happened?
Well, “Hot Boy Summer” suddenly came to an abrupt halt with Luke returning to London.
Alone.
Is it odd to you that Luke has not been papped with Antonia since the end of July? Because it’s pretty damn odd to me. Is it possible that Luke and Antonia ceased to be “together” at the end of July? If you have read my previous entry, you already know my opinion on this.
But, dammit, that’s a shame! No more scraps for the paps. How unfortunate for Deux Moi.
Okay, then what?
Well, “Chaos Week” began. We had Nicola posting a shit storm of content starting August 4 with French toast and ending August 16 with “Juna.” We had Wordle. We had Scrabble. We had the “Drink Your Milk” shirt. We had “Bless the Telephone.” We had “very demure, very mindful” (which, in my opinion, was confirming the intent behind “Chaos Week”). Oddly, all these things seemed to weigh heavily in Lukolas’ favor. We could even take it a bit further by including the August 22 “BTS Polin” picture and the August 23 “modern day carriage” story (you know, the picture of Nicola looking oh-so-come-hither-sexy in the back of a car), which was followed up two days later by JVN’s “finger” demo. I mean, the Lukola train was rolling, right?! Fuck, yeah, it was!
But, then it came to a very abrupt stop on August 25 when Deux Moi posted pictures of Nicola hanging out with Jake at a music festival. The narrative being given? Oh, so cozy vibes.
And, that’s the moment Jake became an adjacent of convenience.
Just from being at a concert.
Taking a picture with Nicola.
Before this point, did I know who Jake Dunn was? Yeah, I did. I’d seen – in fact DEUX MOI – post pictures of Nicola and Jake hanging out in a pub together in July. I’ll be honest, I looked Jake up at the time and everything I read about him seemed to point in the exact same direction it points to today – that he’s not romantically involved with Nicola.
In fact, I polled at least two dozen of my fellow Lukolas (with the majority of them being fellow Fact Finders, with a select few being “long haulers”) about whether they’d heard of “Jakolas” before August 25. Their answer was a collective and figuratively loud NO.
What does that say to you? It makes me believe that the Jakolas were born from those festival pictures.
How convenient.
Just a few short weeks after the Antonia/Luke ship (do they even have a name?) hit an iceberg (pun intended), we suddenly have the christening of a new ship. The USS Jakola.
How convenient.
Now, think about every good thing that has come about in the Lukola fandom since the Jakholes were released into the wild.
Every positive has been collectively counteracted with a negative.
Think about the timing of all those pap pictures with Jake.
Think about who is releasing those pap pictures.
Are the patterns starting to pattern in your head?
Think about how much effort Nicola has put into erasing the Jakola narrative.
Think about how little effort Nicola has put into erasing the Lukola narrative.
Think about how much that must piss the fuck out of the Jakholes. And Deux Moi.
Anyone want to go with me to rescue Jake from the USS Jakola? I heard the Jakholes put him in the hull closet.
If you have some hesitation, I suppose I could agree to keep him hostage until we know where his allegiance lies. But I'm thinking he's dying to get off that ship.

Top reasons the Odyssey is a comedy, a sequel to my previous tirade
- Telemachus telling his mother to shut up in the most savage ways, many, many times
- Everybody, and I mean everybody, crying 24/7, at the slightest inconvenience, every other page
- Odysseus rolling around on the ground and crying after Circe tells him he has to go to the underworld while she sits awkwardly and watches. I am not kidding. Why.
- Odysseus making up ludicrous, stupid fake life stories to everyone he encounters on the way. This is a choice. There was absolutely no reason for those stories to be so detailed. He just really enjoys identity fraud, I guess.
- Calypso crashing out when Hermes gets to her island and going on an extremely dramatic and tearful rant about the unfair double standards of the pantheon while Hermes watches with a bucket of popcorn
- Telemachus’ fragile masculinity shattering into a million pieces every 2 pages
- Nestor. Everything about this guy. At this point the guy is like 300 years old. He’s the Heimerdinger of the Trojan cycle. Nestor x Heimerdinger fanfiction when?
- Odysseus’ crew actively ruining every chance they have at getting home because of their consistent stupidity
- Aeolus having twelve kids and marrying them off to each other. Which is lowkey kind of genius, because all dowries from the marriage would go to himself. But he would also have to provide the dowries… which he then would give to himself. So I guess, not genius?
- Aeolus then refusing to help Odysseus again when he comes back to the island after his men opened the wind bag because Aeolus realizes that the only way someone can be this unlucky is if they were cursed but the gods. In other words he turned Odysseus down because he thought he was jinxed. Odysseus x Jinx fanfiction when? (JKJK)
- Ajax’s ghost refusing to talk to Odysseus in the underworld because he’s still sore about losing the funeral games.
- Achilles’ ghost telling Odysseus that being dead sucks. Yah no shite Achilles.
- Menelaus recognizing Telemachus because his feet looked like Odysseus’ feet. This is an actual thing that happens. I am not making this up. Why. How do you even make that connection.
-Helen drugging all of her guests by spiking their wine, including Telemachus and Peistratus.
- The guests being lowkey chill with getting drugged.
- Menelaus takes 8 years to get back home from the Trojan war, but nobody cares because Odysseus took longer. Seriously, we need a Menelassey.
- Odysseus, upon reuniting with Penelope in disguise, makes up a fake identity and tells a story of how he met himself, then proceeds to describe himself in great detail. Ody. Dude. That’s egotistical asf.
- Eurymachus, one of Penelope’s suitors, throws a stool at beggar Odysseus. He catches it, like an absolute chad.
- At Phaeaicia, Odysseus asks the bard to tell the story of the Trojan horse. Which he came up with. Again, egotistical much?
- Constant shade being thrown at Clytemnestra and Aegisthus throughout the entire book, by everyone. And I mean everyone.
- Odysseus immediately passing out on the ship from Phaeacia to Ithaca. Honestly would have done the same.
- Naussica being an absolute girlboss and not giving a f*ck about the scraggly homeless man who just washed up on her shores.
- Penelope having a 20 year long self care day
- Roughly 20% of the book is Odysseus’ journey. The rest is hilarious filler and npc interactions.
At this point I’m convinced that Homer wrote his epics to troll everyone.

Luna had always found it difficult to make friends. From a young age, she was used to the way people looked at her— peers who seemed to keep their distance, children her age who were either too intimidated by her or too quick to judge. The few times she had tried to approach someone, their hesitation or outright dismissal had stung.
But with time, Luna learned to accept it. She carried herself with an air of quiet confidence, convincing herself that she didn’t need to fit in with the rest. Even as a child, she’d find comfort in the quiet, the solitude that followed her like a shadow.
That sense of isolation followed her into her teenage years, long after she had moved back to Korea to chase her dream of becoming an idol. At just fourteen, she had thrown herself into a world where competition was everything.
It was hard enough to adjust to the grueling training regimen, but there was something even more challenging— forming connections.
Surrounded by other trainees, Luna had hoped that maybe here, in the shared space of hard work and ambition, she would finally find people who understood her.
Instead, the distance only grew.
The girls she trained with didn’t just avoid her because of her looks. They avoided her because of her talent, her skill, and her determination.
Luna was better than them, and they knew it.
Every time she entered the practice room, Luna could feel the stares. Her sharp movements and flawless execution stood out, but not in the way she had hoped. It didn’t make people want to get closer to her. It made them wary as if they were afraid her presence alone was a threat.
Luna never intended to intimidate anyone; she simply wanted to do her best. But no matter how hard she worked, it seemed to push people further away.
Luna had taken it as a compliment as she got older. But back then, it was suffocating, watching the others group together while she was always left on the sidelines, untouchable, unapproachable.
If only she could have done something differently.
If only people could see beyond her cold exterior.
If only people weren't so quick to judge.
As she grew older, she tried to find some comfort in the idea that perhaps this distance was a compliment. If they were intimidated, it meant they saw her as someone to be taken seriously, someone skilled enough to be a rival. And rivals didn’t need to be friends, right?
But even as she told herself this, the isolation lingered. There were times when the silence became suffocating, and she wondered if anyone would ever approach her without that look in their eyes.
No one ever did.
Not until Jeonghan.
She remembered the first time they met vividly like it was etched into her mind.
It was her first day at PLEDIS after she had transferred from YG Entertainment. She had expected it to be just like the others— people watching her from a distance, maybe a polite nod or two but no real effort to get to know her.
But Jeonghan had been different from the start.
While the other trainees kept to their familiar circles, glancing at her curiously but saying nothing, Jeonghan had walked right up to her. His messy swept hair was already growing since then, and there was a smile on his face— easy and warm as if they had known each other for years.
“Hi,” he had said, extending his hand to her. “I’m Jeonghan. What’s your name?” he’d said with a casual smile like it was the most natural thing in the world. His warmth disarmed her and made her wonder why he didn’t hesitate like the others.
Luna had blinked, momentarily stunned by his straightforwardness. She had been so used to people shying away from her that for a second, she didn’t know how to respond.
“I... I’m Jiyeon,” she had managed to say, her voice uncharacteristically small. “Or Luna… you can also call me Luna.”
“Jiyeon or Luna,” Jeonghan repeated, his smile widening. “Welcome. If you need anything, just let me know.”
That was it. No fanfare, no awkward small talk— just a simple greeting, but it had meant the world to her.
It still does.
Jeonghan was the first person to make her feel like she wasn’t an outsider in the cutthroat world of trainee life. From that moment on, he became a constant presence in her life.
He became her first friend within the company and her first proper friend ever. The one who cheered her on during monthly evaluations when no one else would.
His voice would always rise above the whispers of competition, “You’ve got this, Nana-ya!” he’d say, his voice full of encouragement.
And when she did well— when she ranked first during one of the most intense evaluations— it was Jeonghan who was the first to congratulate her, beaming with pride as if her success was his own.
If only she had realized back then just how important he’d become to her.
Jeonghan became her anchor, the one person she could count on when the loneliness threatened to overwhelm her. He was the first one to truly see her—not just as another trainee, but as someone worth knowing.
Jeonghan was her first friend, her first best friend, but he was also the first guy she ever liked.
As time passed, it became clearer. Jeonghan wasn’t just a friend to her. Luna didn’t know when it had happened exactly, but one day, she realized that her feelings for Jeonghan had shifted.
It wasn’t a loud, thunderous realization. It crept in like a slow sunrise, soft and warm.
His easy smiles, the way his hair would fall into his eyes, the effortless kindness he showed not only her but everyone around him. It was the way her heart would flutter when he smiled at her, the way she would find herself glancing at him in the practice room, admiring his soft features, the way he moved with effortless grace… it all felt different.
It made her heart ache, a tender pull that grew with every interaction.
Jeonghan wasn’t just her best friend— he was someone she cared about, someone who had become more important to her than she had ever anticipated.
It started innocently enough, a soft crush that lingered in the back of her mind, growing stronger with every passing day.
Back then, Luna had convinced herself it was just admiration. After all, Jeonghan was everything she wasn’t— outgoing, charming, and effortlessly kind. He had a way of making everyone feel comfortable, and for someone like Luna, who had always been hard to approach, that was something she admired.
But it wasn’t just admiration. She knew that deep down.
If only she could stop herself from liking her best friend.
It terrified her.
Cause just like every first crush, it came with fear.
Fear that he wouldn’t see her the same way.
Fear that their dynamic would change, and the closeness she cherished would slip away.
As a trainee, Luna had done her best to suppress those feelings. She’d bury herself in practice, pushing herself harder and harder, hoping the exhaustion would numb whatever emotions were swirling inside her.
But Jeonghan always seemed to break through that wall. He was the one who encouraged her when she doubted herself, the one who praised her when she felt like she wasn’t good enough, and the one who always made sure she never felt alone.
He had this way of showing up exactly when she needed someone, even when she hadn’t realized she needed anyone at all.
If only it were simple.
If only her heart didn’t race every time he smiled at her during practice, or when he pulled her aside after evaluations just to tell her how well she’d done.
If only she could keep it all together like she wanted to. But every time they stood next to each other on stage, every time they shared a laugh behind the scenes, every time he gave her that gentle, knowing look that only he could, her feelings for him grew stronger, despite how desperately she tried to push them away.
And yet, she knew she couldn’t say anything.
From their trainee days to their debut, Luna kept those feelings locked inside. She’d convinced herself it was better that way. After all, they were in the same group now. They were members of SEVENTEEN, a team. If anything were to happen, if her feelings were ever discovered, it could ruin everything they had worked so hard for.
The thought of jeopardizing that terrified her. That is the last thing she wanted was to complicate things—for herself, for Jeonghan, or the group.
So, for years, Luna held back.
She smiled when Jeonghan smiled at her, laughed when he teased her during practice and pretended it didn’t hurt when he leaned a little too close to one of their other members, playfully tugging on their sleeves the same way he did with her.
Luna tried to delude herself into thinking that her feelings would fade sooner or later.
If only it did.
The feelings persisted, gnawing at her every time they shared a moment. And as much as she tried to hide it, there was no denying the truth: she had hard fallen for him.
Soon, she had become a master of hiding her emotions, of keeping her heart carefully tucked away.
By 2017, she had gotten so good at it that even she almost believed she didn’t care anymore.
Almost.
But it all came crashing down one late night in June, in the quiet of their shared dorm floor. The group had just come home from a long day, having performed at ‘Music Bank’, and the exhaustion clung to them like a heavy fog.
But for Luna and Jeonghan, the night was far from over. It had become their little routine— after a long day, after all the noise and chaos of performing and smiling for the cameras, they would retreat to either Jeonghan or Luna's place, pour a few drinks, and talk.
Tonight was no different.
The apartment was dimly lit, casting a soft glow around the living room where they sat on the floor, leaning against the couch, with half-empty glasses between them. The curtains were drawn shut, blocking out the city lights, and the only sound was the low hum of the air conditioner and the occasional clink of their glasses as they took small sips.
The rest of the members were asleep or off doing their own thing, leaving Luna and Jeonghan in their own little bubble, just as they always had been.
Jeonghan had been talking about something— Luna wasn’t sure what exactly, her mind was too clouded with the effects of the alcohol and the way he was looking at her, that soft, knowing gaze he always gave her when he thought she was overdoing it. His now blonde hair, now tousled from the day, framed his face as he watched her with that same concerned look he always gave her whenever they drank together.
“You’re going to regret this tomorrow, you know,” Jeonghan said, his voice soft but amused. He leaned forward, reaching for her glass as if to take it from her, but Luna pulled it back with a childish pout, cradling it against her chest.
“I’m fine,” she whined, her words slightly slurred, but playful. She leaned back against the couch, closing her eyes for a moment before glancing at him with a half-smile. “We are so busy nowadays that we never get to just… talk anymore. I miss this.”
Jeonghan chuckled softly, shaking his head. “We’re talking now, aren’t we?”
Luna nodded, her gaze drifting to the ceiling. The room felt heavy with unsaid words, with all the things she’d been holding back for years. And yet, there he was, sitting across from her, calm, composed, completely unaware of the storm raging inside her.
He was so infuriatingly perfect— always knowing what to say, how to make her feel safe, how to make her laugh, how to keep her at a distance just enough that she could never cross that line.
Jeonghan shifted beside her, his arm brushing against hers as he reached for her glass again, gently prying it from her hands this time.
“Nana-ya, you’ll get hungover if you keep this up,” he said, his tone more serious now. His fingers brushed hers as he took the glass, setting it aside, and she hated how even that small touch made her heart race.
If only if her heart stopped doing that.
“I don’t care,” Luna murmured, the alcohol loosening her tongue more than she realized. She slumped further into the couch, her legs stretching out in front of her, her head turning to rest on the cushion behind her.
She watched as Jeonghan stood up, stretching his arms over his head before leaning down to gently take her hand, pulling her up with him.
“Come on, let’s get you to bed,” he said softly, his voice low and soothing as he gently tugged her toward her bedroom.
“I’m not tired,” Luna whined again, stumbling slightly as she followed him, her body swaying from the alcohol.
She felt warm all over, not just from the drinks, but from the way Jeonghan was guiding her with such care, as if she were fragile, something to be protected. His hand was steady, firm but gentle as it held hers, and Luna found herself hating it. Hating how easy it was for him to be like this. How perfect he was.
“We can talk more in the morning. You need to rest.” Jeonghan said, his voice soft but insistent. He led her into her bedroom, helping her sit down on the edge of the bed.
Luna shook her head, her vision blurring slightly as she stared up at him. “You’re too good to me, Hannie,” she mumbled, her words tumbling out without her even realizing it. “You’re… too perfect, it’s annoying.”
Jeonghan paused, crouching down in front of her, his hands resting lightly on her knees as he looked up at her with that same gentle smile. “What are you talking about?” he asked softly, brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face
Luna's heart clenched. She hated it. Hated how effortlessly he could make her feel like this.
“You make me feel things,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “And I hate it.”
Jeonghan blinked, his smile faltering slightly, but before he could say anything, Luna let out a frustrated sigh, leaning forward to rest her forehead against his shoulder. He stayed quiet, his hands gently resting on her back, his touch light, almost hesitant. He didn’t say anything, didn’t push her away, didn’t ask her to explain. He just stayed there, holding her, letting her lean on him as the weight of her words hung in the air between them.
“You’re too perfect,” she repeated, her voice muffled against his shirt. “And I hate it. I hate that you make me feel this way.”
Jeonghan's brows furrowed as he heard her words, the frustration lacing her voice, and something in his chest tightened.
He had a feeling he understood what she meant— he wasn’t oblivious, after all. He’d seen the little signs, the lingering glances, the way her gaze softened whenever he was near. But even with that knowledge, there was a part of him that needed to hear her say it outright. To confirm what he had long suspected but never dared to address.
“What do you mean?” he asked softly, his voice gentle but probing, hoping she would clarify even though he already had an inkling.
Jeonghan’s heart beat a little faster, anxiety swirling in his chest. He didn’t move, his hands still resting lightly on her back, his fingers brushing against the fabric of her shirt. He could feel the heat radiating off her body, the weight of her leaning against him.
Luna pulled back slightly, just enough to look him in the eyes, her expression a mix of frustration and something else— something raw, something vulnerable.
“I hate you,” she muttered, her words slurred but filled with emotion. “I hate that you make me feel like this.”
Jeonghan blinked, momentarily taken aback by the bluntness of her statement. “What do you mean ‘feel like this’?” he asked again, his voice quieter now, a little more uncertain.
Jeonghan knew, of course, he knew, but hearing her say it— he needed that.
Luna huffed, her frustration growing as she ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands as if trying to pull herself together.
“Since we were trainees, Yoon Jeonghan,” she said, her voice rising just slightly, her words tumbling out faster now as if she couldn’t stop them. “You were always so... nice to me. Too nice. And you were always there, cheering me on, helping me, making me feel like I wasn’t alone. You made me feel so pretty… so loved… so feel special.”
Jeonghan swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry. He listened, his heart pounding in his chest as she continued.
“And I hated it. I hated how much I needed that. I hated that every time you smiled at me, I felt something. Something I wasn’t supposed to feel.” Luna’s voice cracked, her frustration turning into something more fragile, more pained. “It’s been the same since we were trainees. And even now... even now, you’re still making me feel this way. And I don’t know what to do with it anymore.”
Jeonghan stayed silent, his mind racing. He could feel the weight of her words sinking in, each one hitting him like a stone, and yet... it wasn’t surprising. Not really.
Jeonghan was good at reading people, he had always sensed it— this undercurrent between them, something deeper than friendship, something unspoken that lingered in the spaces between their interactions. But hearing her admit it, hearing the depth of her frustration, her hurt... it made his chest ache in a way he hadn’t anticipated.
“Jiyeon-ah...” he started, his voice soft, but before he could say anything more, Luna slumped forward, her body going limp as the alcohol finally took over. She had passed out, her breathing evening out as she leaned against his chest.
Jeonghan froze for a moment, blinking down at her in surprise. His heart was still racing, his mind spinning with everything she had just said, but as he looked at her now, so peaceful in her sleep, all that frustration and pain gone from her face, he felt a wave of tenderness wash over him.
She looked so fragile in that moment, so vulnerable, and it made something deep inside him stir. He didn’t move right away. Instead, he sat there for a few minutes, watching her, his hand lightly brushing the hair away from her face as she slept. His heart ached for her, for the weight she had been carrying for so long, for the feelings she had kept hidden all these years.
If only things had been different.
If only he had realized sooner.
Jeonghan let out a soft sigh, his fingers trailing through her hair one last time before he leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. It was light, barely there, but it was all he could offer at that moment.
“Goodnight, pretty angel,” he whispered, his voice barely audible as he slowly pulled away.
He stood up, carefully laying her down on the bed and pulling the covers over her, making sure she was comfortable before stepping back. He glanced around the room, his gaze falling on the mess they had left behind in the living room— the half-empty glasses, the bottle of soju, the scattered snacks. With one last look at Luna, he quietly left the room, closing the door behind him.
Jeonghan made his way back to the living room, his mind still spinning from everything that had happened. He cleaned up in silence, his movements slow and methodical as he cleared the table, washed the glasses, and wiped down the counter. His thoughts kept drifting back to her words, the way she had looked at him, the raw emotion in her voice.
By the time he finished cleaning, the apartment was quiet again, the night settling in around him. He stood in the middle of the room for a moment, his hands resting on the back of the couch as he stared at the empty space where Luna had been sitting earlier.
If only he had known earlier.
If only things were simpler.
The next morning, Luna woke up with a pounding headache and three immediate regrets.
If only she didn’t remember what she said to Jeonghan last night.
If only she hadn’t drank so much.
If only she drank more— enough to forget.
But she remembered everything. Every. Single. Thing. And she knew, with a sickening certainty, that Jeonghan did too.
Luna stayed in bed longer than she should’ve, staring up at the ceiling as her mind replayed the previous night’s events on an unrelenting loop. The hazy confession, the way her voice had trembled when she told him she hated how he made her feel—her heart sank deeper with each flash of memory.
She squeezed her eyes shut, willing herself to forget, but it was useless. The image of Jeonghan’s face, so soft and caring as she spilled her heart, refused to leave her mind.
Her schedule wouldn’t let her wallow in bed, though. Today was packed with activities: music shows, interviews, rehearsals, variety show tapings, and a radio appearance in the evening.
All of them required her to see Jeonghan.
Dragging herself out of bed, Luna’s stomach twisted at the thought of facing him. How was she supposed to look him in the eye after what she said?
She could still feel the weight of his gaze from the night before, the warmth of his hands guiding her to bed, the way his lips had brushed her forehead so tenderly. Her heart beat faster just thinking about it, but now all she felt was dread.
She couldn’t avoid him. Not when their schedules were so packed together. And yet… If only she could. She pulled on her clothes, barely paying attention to what she was wearing, her mind too preoccupied with thoughts of how to survive the day without falling apart in front of him.
The day started with a soundcheck at a music show. Luna moved through the motions, greeting staff, warming up her voice, and running through their choreography.
All while keeping one eye on Jeonghan.
She didn’t have to look to know he was watching her. She could feel it— the way his gaze followed her across the room. It wasn’t unusual for him to look out for her, but today it was different. His eyes lingered too long, his expressions too soft, too thoughtful.
And yet, she refused to meet his gaze. Whenever he moved towards her, she skillfully maneuvered herself away, pretending to be busy talking to another member or reviewing notes with their staff. When he tried to catch her between breaks, she’d feign exhaustion, lying down in the waiting room, headphones in, eyes closed, hoping he wouldn’t disturb her.
He didn’t. But he watched.
During the interview portion of their music show appearance, she stood sandwiched between Mingyu and Wonwoo, grateful for the buffer zone. Jeonghan was on the other side of the group, but still, she felt his eyes on her. Every time the camera wasn’t focused on them, he’d glance her way, and she’d pretend not to notice.
The weight of it was suffocating, but she couldn’t bring herself to acknowledge it. Not yet.
The rest of the day unfolded in a blur of performances and obligations. She danced, smiled for the cameras, and laughed when appropriate, all while dodging Jeonghan’s attempts to talk to her. When they left the studio for rehearsals, she managed to stick close to the other members, always positioning herself away from Jeonghan without making it too obvious.
But he was relentless. Subtle, but relentless.
For two days, she avoided him with increasing skill. If he took a step toward her, she’d suddenly have a question for staff or be deep in conversation with another member. If he tried to speak to her during breaks, she’d claim she was too tired or needed to use the restroom.
Thankfully, their schedules were so packed that it was easy to stay busy. The exhaustion from back-to-back schedules worked to her advantage— no one questioned why she was too tired to chat during their downtime.
No one, except for Jeonghan.
He never pressed her. Never forced her into a conversation. But Luna knew. She could see it in the way his eyes would flicker with something unreadable when she ducked out of his reach, the way his expression softened whenever she pretended to be preoccupied.
Jeonghan wasn’t fooled. He knew exactly what she was doing.
And he let her.
But there was no escaping the fact that the more she avoided him, the more she felt the tension building between them. It was like a taut string, pulling tighter with each passing day, each fleeting glance, each unspoken word.
And the worst part? She knew it couldn’t last. Eventually, she’d have to face him.
There was only so much running she could do before everything came crashing down again.
And it did.
Three days after her drunken confession, Luna found herself in the worst possible scenario— alone with Jeonghan.
It had been a long day of grueling practice, the kind that left everyone too exhausted to talk, but not too exhausted to finally notice the tension between the two of them.
Luna was desperate to get to her room, hoping to avoid another awkward interaction. She quickened her pace as soon as they entered the dorm, hoping to reach the elevator before anyone could catch up to her— before he could catch up to her.
One thing about Luna is that she hates elevators— she got stuck alone once when she was a child. From then on she never took it alone… till now, that’s how desperate she was.
She must have jinxed it.
As the elevator doors slid open, she stepped in quickly, but a second later, Jeonghan slipped in behind her. The doors closed, trapping her in the small, suffocating space with the one person she had been desperately trying to avoid.
“Fuck my life,” She cursed under her breath.
Where were the other members? Normally, someone would’ve joined them, but tonight, it was just the two of them. Jeonghan must’ve said something to the others, some quiet, strategic whisper to give them privacy.
Luna sighed audibly, her shoulders tensing as she avoided looking in his direction.
The silence in the elevator was unbearable. She could feel Jeonghan’s presence beside her, calm and unhurried.
She hated how composed he always was— how nothing seemed to faze him. Luna, on the other hand, felt like she was barely holding herself together, her heart pounding in her chest, her palms sweaty as she stared straight ahead, willing the elevator to reach her floor as quickly as possible.
But Jeonghan didn’t speak. He didn’t push, didn’t prod. He simply waited, giving her space, like he always did.
If only he wasn’t so perfect.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Luna broke the silence. "Just spit it out already," she muttered, still refusing to meet his eyes.
She knew he had something to say, something he’d been holding back for the past three days. It was the thing she had been dreading ever since she confessed her feelings to him— the thing she had been running from since their trainee days.
Jeonghan’s voice was soft, almost tender when he finally spoke. "You’ve been ignoring me."
He didn’t sound angry or hurt, just… understanding.
And Luna hated it. He was too perfect, too kind, too gentle for her own good. How could she not fall for someone like him? How could she not hate him for making it so easy?
A beat of silence stretched between them, heavy and uncomfortable.
Luna could feel the weight of his gaze on her, but she kept her eyes on the elevator doors, counting the seconds in her head, hoping this would all be over soon. But the words were clawing their way out of her, demanding to be spoken.
"What do you want me to say, Han?" Her voice was sharp, and defensive, as if she could protect herself with her words. "That I lied? ‘Cause I didn’t."
She finally turned to look at him, her eyes meeting his for the first time in three days. The impact of it hit her like a wave— his warm, concerned gaze, the softness in his expression, the way he looked at her like he saw straight through her defenses.
"If only it was," she added quietly, her voice breaking just a little at the end.
Jeonghan stepped forward slowly, his movements careful and deliberate, like he was approaching a wounded animal. His hands found her arms, his touch light, barely there, as if he was afraid to hurt her. He gently caressed her skin, his thumb tracing small circles against her sleeve, soothing in a way that only made everything worse.
"Jiyeon-ah..." His voice was low, almost a whisper, as if saying her name out loud might shatter the fragile moment between them.
He didn’t need to say anything else.
Luna knew him all too well.
She knew him inside and out— knew that the look in his eyes wasn’t just concern. There was something else there, something that made her stomach twist painfully.
A twinge of regret. Sadness.
She already knew what he was going to say.
And she dreaded it.
"I…" Jeonghan hesitated, his grip tightening slightly as he prepared to speak, his gaze never leaving hers. "I care about you so much, you know that, right?"
Luna nodded in defeat, biting down on her lip to keep the flood of emotions at bay. She didn’t trust herself to speak.
"But… we can’t do this." His voice was soft, so gentle as if he was trying to let her down easy. "It wouldn’t be professional. And it wouldn’t be fair to the others, to the team. We’ve worked so hard to get here, and… we can’t risk that."
There it was.
The polite rejection.
The one she’d expected but had hoped would never come. The words hit her like a punch to the gut, stealing the air from her lungs. She went numb, her mind buzzing with a kind of dull, painful shock.
She had prepared herself for this. She knew it was coming. But still, it felt like the ground had been ripped out from under her.
She couldn’t hear anything else.
The world around her became a blur, Jeonghan’s words fading into the background as her mind shut down, overwhelmed by the weight of it all. Her chest felt tight, her throat constricting as she struggled to keep herself composed.
If only she could forget this moment… this feeling.
At that very moment, something in Luna’s brain snapped— a survival instinct, a deep-seated need to protect herself from the pain that had just hollowed her out.
A switch flipped, and determination settled over her like a mask. She forced a giggle, light and airy as if nothing had happened. As if her heart wasn’t hanging in tatters inside her chest.
She could see Jeonghan’s face soften, but not in relief. No, his eyes were filled with something else—pain. He knew her all too well. Knew this was her defense mechanism. Her way of pretending everything was fine.
Jeonghan opened his mouth to say something, maybe to stop her from pretending and shutting him out but Luna was faster.
"It’s fine," she said, her voice calm, steady. Her smile not quite reaching her eyes. "I was drunk and being stupid."
There it was.
The first lie.
And then, with a forced chuckle, she gave him the second, her all-time favorite lie, one she had practiced in front of a mirror countless times just in case this moment ever came.
"It’s a little crush. It’ll go away soon."
Luna had become so good at pretending, at brushing off her own heartbreak as if it were nothing more than a mild inconvenience.
She waved her hand dismissively as if her heart hadn’t just been ripped to shreds and thrown at her feet. As if she wasn’t praying for the earth to open up and swallow her whole so she could disappear from the sheer embarrassment of being rejected.
"I’m sorry for worrying you," she said, her voice light, too casual. "You know me. I didn’t want to come off as weird and I’ve been missing my parents lately… Plus, with our schedule being so crazy, I’ve just been all over the place."
She was explaining herself, making excuses for her vulnerability, for the way her feelings had slipped through the cracks in her armor.
It was easier to blame it on something else— on homesickness, on stress— than to admit what was really happening inside her heart.
She saw Jeonghan frown, saw the worry deepening in his eyes as he tried to get a word in, but she was already moving, already pivoting away from the conversation.
"We’re okay." She cut him off, a little too cheerful. Her firm voice cutting through as if to reassure Jeonghan or more so to reassure herself. She stepped forward, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, something she’d done a hundred times before but this time it felt like a goodbye. "Don’t worry about it."
As if on cue, the elevator doors slid open, and without waiting for a response, Luna slipped out, leaving Jeonghan standing there, stunned and silent.
The moment the door to her apartment clicked shut behind her, the facade crumbled.
Luna’s breath hitched, and she locked the door with trembling hands. Her knees buckled beneath her, and she collapsed onto the floor, the weight of everything she had been holding back crashing down on her in one violent wave.
She pressed her forehead to the cool surface of the floor, squeezing her eyes shut as silent sobs wracked her body. The room was too quiet, the kind of quiet that only amplified the buzzing in her ears, the heavy thud of her heartbeat.
She had known it would hurt, but she hadn’t expected it to hurt this much.
For years, she had kept her feelings carefully hidden, burying them deep inside her chest where no one could see, not even herself sometimes.
Luna had told herself it was better this way, safer. But now that it had all come out— now that she had laid herself bare only to be rejected— it felt like everything she had built around herself was crumbling.
All the walls she had put up, all the armor she had worn, were useless now.
If only she hadn’t said anything.
If only she had kept quiet like always.
If only she hadn’t let herself hope.
Luna was angry— at the universe, at herself because she couldn’t find herself to be angry at Jeonghan. It was not his fault after all. It’s not his fault he didn’t feel the same way, he didn’t do it on purpose. In the same way, she didn’t fall for him on purpose.
However, she was angry that she had been stupid enough to believe, even for a second, that he might feel the same way… even a little. Angry that she had let her guard down. Angry that no matter how hard she tried to let go, her heart had latched onto him with a vice grip that wouldn’t loosen.
Her thoughts spiraled, wild and desperate as tears streamed down her face. She had tried for so long to suppress her feelings, to push them down, to keep them from surfacing. But now, they were all spilling out, every fear, every insecurity, every moment of doubt.
Years, she thought, choking on the sobs. Years of holding this in, of pretending I was okay… all for what?
Luna had always known that liking Jeonghan would lead to this.
It had been inevitable, she supposed.
A quiet, creeping sense of dread that had lived in the back of her mind ever since they were trainees. She had always feared that this would be the outcome, that her feelings would only ever be one-sided, that the day she confessed, everything would fall apart.
But she had never expected it to hurt this much.
Her heart clenched painfully, and for a moment, she wished she could rip it out of her chest just to make the pain stop.
The rejection wasn’t even the worst part.
No, it was the fact that Jeonghan had been so kind about it.
So understanding.
So… perfect.
Luna hated that about him.
Hated that he had been so gentle, so considerate when he let her down.
It would’ve been easier if he had been harsh if he had given her something to be angry about. But instead, he had given her nothing but soft words, valid excuses, and apologies.
The buzzing in her ears became a dull hum as the last of her sobs faded, and in the silence, her body slowly went numb as she curled up on the cold floor, hugging her knees to her chest as she let the pain settle deep within her heart.
Luna didn’t push away the pain this time; she allowed it to consume her, to wrap itself around her heart like a vice.
Every ache, every sharp sting of rejection, she accepted it— because maybe if she let herself feel it fully, let herself drown in it for just this moment, her heart would finally learn.
Maybe this time, the hurt would leave a scar deep enough to remind her, to teach her, that hoping for more was futile. That loving someone who didn’t feel the same way was a battle she was always destined to lose.
Maybe, she thought, maybe this time, my heart will finally take the hint and move on.
But deep down, Luna knew better.
She had tried to move on before— countless times—and it had never worked.
No matter how much she wished for it, her heart had always found its way back to Jeonghan. Always.
And now, as she lay there, broken and exhausted, she realized with a painful clarity that this wasn’t the push she needed to forget him.
No.
This was only the beginning.
It was still painful, though.
Knowing that the first guy she had ever liked— the first person she had truly opened up to— would never see her the same way.
Jeonghan had been the first person to approach her, the first person to become her friend, the first person she liked, and now, he was the first person to break her heart.
If only things had been different.
Life, however, moved on.
The next day came with the same grueling schedule and the same routines. Music shows, interviews, practice sessions, and variety show appearances all blurred together as if nothing in her world had been torn apart the night before.
Luna didn’t allow any cracks to show; she was an expert at wearing her mask by now. She laughed with the other members, joked with the staff, and smiled for the fans— all while something heavy settled deeper within her chest, like a stone she couldn’t quite shake off.
With Jeonghan, it was as if nothing had ever happened. No awkward tension lingered between them, no strained silences or hesitant interactions. He treated her the same way he always had— kind, supportive, teasing her whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Jeonghan was worried, of course.
Luna could see it in the way his eyes lingered on her a second longer than usual, the subtle softness in his voice whenever he spoke her name. But he didn’t push. He didn’t force her to talk about what had happened that night, didn’t ask for explanations or demand a conversation she clearly wasn’t ready to have.
Luna spoke to him like she always did, her tone light and unbothered.
Not once did she avoid him because, in her mind, avoiding him would only prove that she wasn’t okay.
And she desperately needed to be okay.
She couldn't allow anyone— especially Jeonghan— to know the truth despite knowing he probably already did.
That her heart still beat just as fast when he smiled at her, that every casual touch sent a familiar warmth spreading through her chest.
No, she wasn’t going to let anyone see that she was still hurting.
Not again.
Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months and Luna realized quickly that nothing had changed with her feelings.
They hadn't diminished, they hadn't been pushed away. If anything, they only grew stronger the more she tried to bury them.
So, she made a decision: she would lock them up deep down in her chest, chain her heart, and throw away the key.
It was better like this. Safer.
But fate has a cruel sense of humor.
Because no matter how far Luna thought she’d thrown the key, somehow, in some twisted cosmic joke, it landed straight into Jeonghan’s hands.
Unbeknownst to her, he had already begun to notice the cracks beneath her carefully crafted facade, the moments where her smile faltered just a little too long, or when her gaze lingered on him longer than she intended.
Jeonghan, who had always been so attuned to her, had found the key she so desperately wanted to hide.
And little by little, without her even realizing it, he was using it to unlock the very heart she was trying so hard to protect.
A year had passed since that night.
A year since Luna had bared her soul, and Jeonghan had rejected her.
It was 2018 now, during the filming of the music video of their song ‘THANKS’ and the air was thick with a quiet intensity as the members pushed through a grueling day of shooting.
But even amidst the rush and exhaustion, Jeonghan couldn’t help himself. His eyes followed Luna from a distance, as they often did.
She was talking animatedly to the camera set up for their ‘Inside SEVENTEEN’ behind-the-scenes footage.
Luna’s laugh echoed faintly across the set, and Jeonghan couldn’t stop noticing the smallest things about her.
The way her eyes crinkled slightly at the corners when she smiled— an indication that it was real, genuine, a smile that Jeonghan hadn’t seen in far too long. He noticed how her hair danced in the light breeze, strands occasionally kissing her face before she absentmindedly brushed them away.
Her smile stretched wide, almost reaching her ears, a sign that today, she was happy. Genuinely happy.
And Jeonghan was thankful for that. He’d worried about her for so long.
Luna turned toward him then, catching his gaze. For a moment, time seemed to slow as she smiled at him—soft, warm, real.
Jeonghan returned it with a smile of his own, but the second her attention shifted back to the camera, where she began laughing about something with Dokyeom who sneaked up on her from behind, his heart twisted in a way he hadn’t expected.
Jeonghan would be lying if he said he hadn’t thought about her confession every day since it happened. Because he had. It had haunted him, followed him into every quiet moment, and lingered in every glance they shared.
He couldn’t stop thinking about it— about her. He hadn’t stopped worrying about her since that night, either.
The truth was, he admired her— he always had.
Jeonghan admired the strength she had to smile and laugh even when she must’ve been hurting inside.
He admired how effortlessly beautiful she was, today, yesterday, and every day in between.
He admired how she seemed to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders but never let it dim her light.
But as Jeonghan watched her now, laughing freely with Dokyeom, something sharp and bitter jabbed at his chest.
It was innocent, of course. Luna and Dokyeom had always been close. Their laughter was nothing more than friendly.
But that didn’t stop the sudden realization from slapping Jeonghan across the face: he couldn’t keep this lie up any longer.
The lie that he had been telling himself since the night Luna confessed to him.
When she had stood there, vulnerable and raw, spilling her heart out, he had been scared.
He’d made excuses— talked about professionalism, about the team, about the risks. But deep down, they were just that— excuses.
He had lied, not to her, but to himself.
Because he felt the same.
He always had.
And he’d been too scared to admit it, too scared to face what it would mean to let himself fall for her.
If only he hadn’t lied.
If only he hadn’t been scared.
If only he had the courage to do what his heart had been telling him all along.
But the sight of her laughing with someone else, even if it was innocent, hit him like a bolt of lightning.
The thought of someone else making her laugh like that, of someone else being the reason behind those genuine smiles— he couldn’t handle it.
Jeonghan couldn’t let someone like Luna go.
Not now.
Not ever.
His hands were clammy as he fidgeted with the hem of his top, his leg bouncing anxiously. His heart was pounding so hard in his chest, it felt like it might burst out. There was a smile creeping up on his face, a warmth spreading through him, and for a moment, Jeonghan wondered if he was going into cardiac arrest.
But then, no… this wasn’t heart failure.
This wasn’t a symptom of physical pain.
This was him falling for Bae Jiyeon.
It wasn’t fear.
It was exhilaration.
It was the undeniable truth that he couldn’t keep hiding anymore. He was falling for her— had been for a long time, but now, it was clear as day. The thought of her with anyone else made him feel like he’d lose a piece of himself.
And there was only one way to fix that.
Jeonghan wasn’t discouraged by his mistakes from the past. No. He was determined now— more than ever.
Determined to make this right, to tell her what he should’ve said a year ago.
Determined to hold onto her before it was too late.
With the key to Luna’s heart, which she had thrown away in her desperate attempt to lock her feelings deep inside, now firmly in Jeonghan’s grasp, he was determined to unlock a future they both had wished for but were too hesitant and scared to reach.
Jeonghan is determined to do anything to turn the if only into an unequivocally so.

Okay in all seriousness. There's something that I REALLY want to talk about as an open discussion with the fandom, but. This is not going to be a very nice thing to hear/talk about.
It's about how Gonta is treated by the fandom.
As a fan of all the V3 characters now, and as someone who has always been a fan of Gonta, and as someone who has many mental disabilities and two diagnosed neurodivergancies... I'm tired of playing nice about it.
You all need to stop being ableist towards Gonta.
I've mentioned in the past that I don't like shitting on personal interpretations. I don't like saying something is or is not canon because narration is just a big web of text that you try to decipher with your own personal biases, experiences, and thoughts. That's why two literary analysts analyzing the same text with the same literary criticism rules can come to wildly different conclusions--why people develop different headcanons from the same canonical information.
But one of the things that challenged my integrity is just how many people view Gonta as this innocent, naive, ignorant, baby boy who can do no harm/never has a complicated/dirty/violent/sexual thought in his life ever.
This incredibly ableist interpretation of the character bothered me for, well, obvious reasons (See: It's fucking ableist, need I say more?) but I never challenged it as harshly as I am now because to be frank, it's not my place to tell people how to HC a character. It still isn't. But I've pretty much given up on my integrity on the subject and have decided to go all in on discussing why this interpretation of Gonta is just. Really bad.
First of all, not to promote my own analyses here or anything, but I think this analysis I did of Gonta explains a LOT in regards to the ableism the cast gives him in canon. I also think that this subtle ableism is why the fandom is so bad with Gonta's characterization in headcanons and fanfic--because they've seen how the cast treats him, and they think it's normal. They don't see the microaggressions, they don't see the subtle ableism in the cast--they just see this big giant idiot who speaks like Tarzan in the English version (which... I don't actually know why people assume Tarzan (Thinking of Disney's version) is stupid. Like as a boy he had to reinvent the spear with no one to guide him on how to do it. He was able to strategize and outsmart "civilized" men in the final showdown. Still I digress) and don't see the literal genius behind his social awkwardness.
There is also another very important point I'm going to make in addition to this, and it's going to be very uncomfortable to Gonta fans who insist he's nothing but a sweet baby who only has pure thoughts. Especially to the fans who insist he "can't be sexual" or think it's weird to ship him with his peers.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but... Gonta blatantly has sexual desire and gets horny right in canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is further clarified here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn't a matter of Gonta didn't want to touch her because touching someone in their underwear was inappropriate, or being flustered because she was in her underwear which is inappropriate...
It was literally a "weird feeling" that made him unable to approach her or touch her. A "weird feeling" that Miu makes pretty obvious as to what it was--sexual arousal.
He literally was sexually attracted to and felt sexual arousal from looking at Miu in her underwear. He had sexual feelings and thoughts about Miu. Why?
Because Gonta is a young man.
Gonta is a brilliant, talented young man who has normal human thoughts for someone his age--sexual desires, upsetting thoughts, complicated thoughts, ectect. He is not a child, he is not mentally stunted (I've been informed that people have literally said this on Ao3 for the NSFW Gonta fics, please for the love of god stop that)
I think the reason why Gonta fans typically want to keep him as a "pure baby child who can do no wrong" is because treating him like the young adult that he is makes it harder for them to justify Chapter 4. Every time I've seen a Gonta fan that hates Kokichi, it's always followed by the sentiment of "Kokichi manipulated and abused Gonta into killing Miu, so it's all Kokichi's fault." They're afraid of nuance and liking a character with the grey morality of genuinely thinking Mercy Killing the cast is a viable option, because it challenges their own morals about the character they adore.
To those people who read this and are upset: You can and should like Gonta! Gonta is a magnificent character who showcases the subtle way microaggressions can manifest and hurt people, he's a good-hearted person and a literal genius, he cares deeply for his friends and loves everyone with upmost sincerity.
But.
You need to re-evaluate your stance on Gonta if you think he's a stupid, naive fool who Kokichi manipulated. You need to re-evaluate why you think those thoughts, why you think Gonta being shipped with anyone is "Kinda weird" or "has weird consent problems" or "give you the ick." You have to challenge yourself and ask yourself uncomfortable questions in regards to why you treat Gonta like a child when canon has proven otherwise, why you think he cannot have violent or sexual thoughts, why he can't think mercy killing his class is the only way to save them.
This isn't an attack on you--but understand that these specific takes on Gonta? They are ableist in nature. They belittle and dismiss him, they treat him like a child, an idiot who can't think for himself--and you have to come to terms with the fact that Gonta is a far more complex character with complicated thoughts and feelings who is a young adult. Not a child. A young adult.
So again, ask yourself this: Why are you treating this young adult like he's a toddler?

my thoughts on Charlastor and Alastor calling Charlie "the daughter he never had"
this will be a very long rant/vent/whatever. also, a kind of... agressive one. if u wanna read, read it, if u don't, don't, idc and idm. I don't know if some antis take things for convenience (that way) or if they really are naive, because the fact that a manipulative guy like Alastor, whose intentions are unknown, tells Charlie that he sees her as "the daughter he never had" DOES NOT SOUND as CUTE to me as many DO seem to think it does.
I don't know if they don't realize the relationship Charlie has with her parents and how Alastor seems to take advantage of her.
From the pilot we realize that Charlie has no contact with her mother. In the series it is established that they have not seen each other for 7 years.
The first episode JUST talks about Charlie having so called "daddy issues" as her father, Lucifer, is an absentee father.
Charlie appears to NOT have had a close relationship with ANY of the two for some time (or quite some time).
The only person Charlie has is Vaggie, to protect and care for her (here's why Vaggie is so "boring", as some people call her, as she is acting as a guide/parental figure for Charlie, even though their relationship is romantic).
Where am I going with these points? That I think it's complete nonsense for people to take super-literally what Alastor has said: "you're like the daughter I always wanted to have".
Isn't it convenient for the most feared overlord (not the strongest) to approach Charlie and find that she's not as vulnerable as he thought (because Vaggie is there)? Isn't it convenient for Alastor to make a very absolute polarity between Vaggie and him in the pilot, where Vaggie comes off as the "bitter one" and he as the "fun guy"? Isn't it convenient for Alastor to PROVE to Charlie over and over again that HE knows what SHE NEEDS by pulling his tricks? And, oh, surprise… Isn't it even more convenient that when Lucifer arrives, who has a lousy relationship with his daughter, Charlie, Alastor rubs it in his face that he is doing everything that he (Lucifer) is responsible for, and furthermore, hits him right where it hurts, manipulating Charlie so that she seriously BELIEVES that Alastor REALLY sees her that way, and thus making her STILL not have a GUIDE other than HIMSELF?
I'll make it simple for you. You know how narcissists work? They will make you believe that YOU are special, and at the same time, they will ALIENATE you from your loved ones to keep gaining whatever they need from you. Charlie is, literally, his supply.
Alastor is a psychopath and narcissist. Do you really think that someone who can't genuinely empathize and love is literally going to feel affection for a grown woman who is very naive and doesn't even have power over her kingdom because she is so immature? Don't you think it is VERY OBVIOUS that he has literally said to her face: "I'm going to manipulate you in my favor because thanks to me you have all these upgrades in your stupid hotel"?
Alastor hasn't as such made a deal with Charlie, but he's winning her over in HIS way.
And I don't know who's crazier: charlastor shippers like me, who don't give a damn about canon and want to enjoy shipping WITHOUT bothering ANYONE (and don't come out with the stupidity that it's a "proship". Proshipper doesn't even mean "problematic ship", it means that you are FOR shipping whatever you want, living and letting live, without HARASSING others. Let's remember that Hazbin Hotel characters DON'T. FUCKING. EXIST. Alastor is not going to come out of the screen to say: "omg, user, thanks for defending me from those evil shippers uwu", or Charlie to say: "thanks for defending me, you're so good, user…. You're such a good person". Pro: "in favor of", shipper: "shipper, ship", however you want to call it. Don't modify terms to suit yourselves because you can tell that many don't even know how suffixes and prefixes work in words. Neither Charlie nor Alastor are going to die because someone shipped them. They are FICTITIOUS characters. The FANON is not going to change the CANON. Learn to sepparate stuff, ffs. Go out and touch grass once in a while) or antis who put on a pedestal what Alastor said, believing it as a justification to ATTACK people in the fandom who shipped something different, according to them, "problematic".
There they do forget that Alastor is a manipulator, that he is a person with a LOT of arsenal to get his way. There they forget that he IS a guy Charlie should NOT trust. There it DOES count because IT CONVENIENTS THEM. That's when the canon MATTERS to them. There it COUNTS. It doesn't matter if Charlie gets hurt because of trusting Alastor, they only see what they want to see. If you guys are going to humanize this fucking characters, at least be a little bit logical. Got me? Remember what Viv said?: "ship whatever you want, JUST DON'T HARASS ANYONE". These people say: "fuck what Viv says", but on this occasion, since she DID say something convenient for them, it DOES matter what Viv says now, doesn't it? Hypocrites.
Charlie has no one beyond Alastor, and I don't remember where I read that theory, whether it was here or elsewhere, where they talked about Alastor looking for a way to alienate the hotel itself in one way or another. That's why he doesn't use very flashy technology (Vox can travel through the latest electronics, and the hotel has an old box TV), nor does he go out of his way to provide anything of good quality (like the video camera). The hotel has its own power supply (we see this when the blackout occurs during the song between Alastor and Vox).
Alastor DOES NOT WANT Charlie as his daughter, he's just taking advantage of her to get whatever he needs to get out of her.
Charlie doesn't even seem to know exactly how her powers work, and the only person who can teach her is Lucifer, her father. And if Lucifer is out of the equation, Alastor can do whatever he wants.
He's hit Lucifer right in the jugular, and Lucifer knows that all the power in the world can't make up for the wrong he did to Charlie.
Anyway, if a real anti thinks Charlastor is problematic because "AlASTor AlreADy SaiD hE sEES hEr As a DauGhtER," I remind them that they are not dealing with a character who cares about others beyond maintaining his own status, and ffs... they're not even real. KEEP SHIPPING. KEEP DRAWING. KEEP MAKING FANFICS. FUCK THESE PEOPLE THAT TRY TO HARASS YOU, FUCK THESE PEOPLE THAT TRY TO MAKE EVERYTHING "PURE" ON A SHOW ABOUT DEMONS AND HELL. FUCK THESE PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE A FANDOM THEIR OWN FUCKING WAY BECAUSE THEY CAN'T HANDLE THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT VIEWS. FUCK THEIR SAVIOR COMPLEX, JUST COMING AROUND WHEN IT'S ALL ABOUT CHARACTERS THAT DON'T EXIST, FEEL, OR THINK FOR THEMSELVES, BUT DISAPPEARS ANYTIME SOMEONE REAL COMES, HARASSING AND SENDING DEATH THREATS TO THEM. FUCK THESE PEOPLE, GIVING PSYCHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSES OVER A FUCKING TIKTOK VIDEO OTHER ANTI MADE JUST BASING THEIR THEORIES ON THEIR FIST RESULT ON GOOGLE. FUCK YALL, CAUSE YOU'RE THE REASON YOU WHINE ABOUT THIS FANDOM. JUST AS WE SAY IN SPANISH: O LA BEBES, O LA DERRAMAS.

Hi i am new here did you have nay head canons for little kwazii and calico jack interactions because i really need some cj and kwazii time
(Loved your head canons and i will going to read about the au after that)
<click for higher quality>
Tumblr media
I HAVE MANY THOUGHTS ON MY DARLING ORANGE CATS :> ( feel free to share ur thoughts in comments <3)
First off I just wanna say that they are KINDRED SPIRITS
Canonically cj (calico jack) is extremely patient, understanding, and gentle with kwazii. Hes extremely generous, even giving his own golden treasures to decorator crabs who needed them for protection, with little hardship. The treasures he cared most about was literally KWAZIIS BABY PICTURE BOOK-
Even when kwazii was so little and Itty bitty that he couldn't talk he still gravitated towards his grandad!he was huge and giant and let kwazii climb all over him even when his tiny claws dug into him!
More under the cut, they make me want to cry
He had a big hat and pete the parrot was his best friend!!! And once when kwazii was little and he was collecting treasure for him momma (shells and sea glass <3) a HUGGGEEE SNAKE MONSTER tried to eat him! But CJ saved him!!! Cj saved him and laughed kindly to the snake before setting it off with a stern warning. He wasn't even in big trouble either, he just got some tips, some candy, and was made to promise to always be care and use his ears.
He felt safe.
Cj was always there to listen to his yapping and yammering and genuinely care and use it as opportunities to teach him lessons and about the world. He really did help him appreciate the smallest details of the world and how to be gentle with the world and all of its creatures.
Cj also had a tradition with all kittens and kiddos he knew, and that was treasure hunting 🗣 during it, bot only would he spend time with the lil ones one on one, but he'd also teach them survival and tracking skills!!! Definitely was very useful to kwazii
About how cj saw kwazii though? Oh kwazii was a spark of life itself-
Kwazii adored calico jack. Kwazii wanted to show him everything! Kwazii was so little yet he seemed to care and and takeevery little lesson cj tried to share so seriously!!! He'd worry if his own shadow was lonely and he's tried to make sure the sea birds on the ship knew they were welcome to play swords with him too. Of course those sentiments and ideas weren't exactly plausible, but it was the heart behind them.
Honestly? It reminded him of maddie in a way. How fiercely in love she was with her people. But kwazii took it even further since it seemed like he was in love with every single aspect of the entire world. And he just kept growing day by day too.
They just understood eachother in a very special way, and they made eachother even more alive.
Cj was known as a more free spirit, often doing his own treasure hunts on his lonesome. There were some times where he took kwazii along, but for longer trips kwazii had to stay with the rest of their family. But cj understood kwaziis need for exploration and freedom, the same kind that a bird feelings and needs when it takes off to fly. And kwazii knew cj understood too.
Cj also always made kwazii laugh too

What are your thougths on sg lc?
Thoughts? I have no thoughts, only 🩷❤️.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, thoughts, um...
Seriously, I am not a diehard magical girl fan, but SG Lightcannon is just PEAK. It's a simple trope done well, the childhood friends with contrasting personalities navigating the stormy shoals of teenage drama and fighting evil by Starlight.
Lux is the optimistic, conscientious but uncertain young Heroine leader struggling with the weight of responsibility on her shoulders and Jinx is the hothead maverick tsundere Lancer who doesn't gel with the team or care much about the mission but is ferociously devoted to a special someone who may not fully understand how she feels.
With the lore implication that if Jinx ever fully breaks from the team she could risk succumbing to darkness, that it's her deep devotion to for Lux that holds her to the light.
And the implication in her bio that Jinx became a Star Guardian in order to protect and stay with Lux is just achingly romantic. It might be just a LITTLE gay to take an eternally binding oath to fight in a magical girl war for your totally-platonic-childhood-bestie, am I right?
And the music video is so ludicrously sapphic. Lightcannon existed as a ship before Star Guardian but SG kicked the ignition and launched it into the stars.
And then, I think, Riot panicked about people shipping their poster girls so hard they had to throw Ezreal in just to "NO HOMO HONEST" and I fucking hate it.
Star Guardian Ezreal pretty much exists just to fulfill a shallow Tuxedo Mask role he doesn't earn and that's it. He's just there to kill the ship, he has no role in the story other than this, no personality, no background, far less character than any other Ezreal in other skinlines with far less lore meat than Star Guardian.
It's just so transparent. He's just there to be Lux's comphet maybe-boyfriend, and they don't even commit to that - the two exchange one flirty dialogue that is interrupted by a jealous Jinx during the camping story and never actually interact again, despite the occasional art crumb.
Any other developments are left to the imagination or never actually happened. Jinx interacts with him more, and they fight as a decent team in the Twilight Star battle, so they seem to have buried whatever rivalry they might've had, but SG Ezlux and the potential love triangle never actually amounts to a story.
As far as I'm concerned, suqling's half-finished SG comics are the true canon filling in the blanks and I'll leave it at that 🩷❤️
Star Guardian 2022 then promptly threw it all out the window, replacing Lux's team with Kai'Sa's without ever giving them any closure, not on their mission, on the Lux/Ezreal/Jinx love triangle, or even on the characters' survival.
It was so abrupt and so stupidly vague that half the fandom thinks Star Guardian Lux is dead or petrified into a statue somehow based on the trailer showing her transferring leadership role to Kai'Sa and one throwaway line in the visual novel about Kai'Sa 'not wanting to end up a statue like Lux.'
You'd be forgiven for thinking it, but, no, Lux explicitly sent Nilah to look out for Kai'Sa's team and her statue is a commemorative statue built in the square after Zoe's defeat, and Jinx is out there flying around in LoR with some of their team members rescuing SG Gwen from a space kraken.
There's crumbs that Lux might have ascended into some higher station and that's why she's not in the story anymore but it's so absurdly vague, again, there's nothing concrete to go on.
So if the story of Star Guardian Lux and her team just ends there, it's a missed opportunity, and I'm still mad about the stifling of the lesbian subtext.
I want to like 2022 SG's characters, but all I can see is how Lightcannon's story was stolen from them and given to Kai'Sa/Akali, and yes, I am bitter.
SG Lightcannon tiptoed so SG KaiKali could fly.
