A new theme week release from my Patreon, this one looking at Quandrix, the College of Numeramancy from the Strixhaven campaign setting. Students of Quandrix use the power of mathematics to delve deep into the underlying nature of magic, as well as the other natural workings of the world.

This release includes a new magic item, the Sequence Engine; Quandrix Command, a spell that lets you choose from a variety of smaller effects each time you cast it; and a new student to make friends (or establish rivalries) with, the mathemagical prodigy, Zimone Wola.

This reveal was insane.

For the past sixty episodes of this saga, the kids have been dealing with private park locations, abandoned facilities, fully-automated secret labs, isolated cabins, lonely ranches, roadside fairs, and jungle setting after jungle setting.

Suddenly...here we are at a fully-functional dockyard. There's people everywhere. Roaring vehicles. Taillights. Industry, business, a massive operation where all thee scary dinosaurs are boxed up in metal crates.

And it's not just the wide-open, highly-populated setting that makes it feel different: this feels real.

This kind of shot absolutely feels like a movie or show that was filmed on the waterfront dockyards from 2:00 to 5:00 in the morning over three nights between scheduled ship arrivals. These aren't animated trucks here, the crew went out and borrowed a dozen unmarked vehicles from the production company, swapped some license plates and slapped on some removable decals, and then filmed this on-site with a couple of fog machines and some floodlights. Nothing CGI about this, it cost them two thousand dollars (plus wages) and gave them a full ninety-seven seconds on their eighty-five minute film...NOT counting all of the actual shots of the actors they filmed here, too!

I'm not adept at 5e tieflings lore, but hopefully someone who knows more than me chimes in. Was Karlach a tiefling since birth, or was she once human?

She's listed as Zariel's tiefling, right? And it seems to me that she's the only one in-game, save for (possibly) player character. Is it a stretch to think that the torture she's been through was also enough of a hellish interference to change her into a tiefling? Or was it just a coincendence and she's already been a Zariel's tiefling before the entire betrayal? Tieflings seemed to be a pretty rare occurence in the area before the fall of Elturel.

Happy New Year of 🪵🐉🐲!

I tend to have lazy start of the year on purpose, to chill out. But it also gets uneasy, because of the ingrained social expectation to have resolutions (same as to celebrate at all).

I do lose track if my goals very easily due to my absent-minded flaky attention jumping from idea to idea.. so for this year My ultimate resolution is to make first steps as a creative/movie director. This has felt like the best summary of the professional role I ultimately want to take on.

Starting with doing art in landscape, perhaps.

Webtoon format is very close to this, but that's the whole other thing I am still pondering on.

Right now I want to do a very simple project:

Few seconds of a video made in Unreal Engine sequencer, using Metahuman I already have (clothes changes are not important here thanks to emphasis on blur and light in the room/glass overlay) + mocap+ figuring out cinematic light&blur.

There is nothing extra I need to prepare, just look up UE5 metahuman expansion related to animating.

The doodle above is the storyboard frame with my oc.

And here is some older doodle edit i recenty did, which kinda the reason for the today's one.

Overall idea is:

The blurry misty with light rays, scene behind a textured glass. Facial expressions changes and eventual bloody hand slap on the glass. Kinda mystery/horror vibe + Awake tv show vibe. For color theme I wanna go with wood for the Year's dragon color. I tend to drigt to greenish, common color theme for movies. I want the visuals to be more ambiguous, without the insta-moody vibe.
