It's always "seperate the art from the artist" UNLESS it's about Vivziepop. Even putting aside the fact the most of the shit people say about her is either proven to be false or something mildly questionable she did YEARS ago and has already apologized for it, why should her being a supposedly bad person stop you from enjoying her shows or buying her merch? If you still don't like Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss regardless of who Viv is as a person, that's fine. I'm all for seperating the art from the artist, but why does Viv have to be an exception?

Since it seems I need to make this clearer.
Seperate the art from the artist.
The Harry Potter world is good as inspiration (in my opinion). JK Rowling is a terrible human.
James Pattersons writing is fantastic (again, my opinion). Hes still a horrible person that steals ideas.
Peoples art may be nice, but that doesnt mean they are.
This works in the opposite direction. People with terrific art may seem daunting to talk to, but they could be a nerd like me.
If everyone liked art depending on the people who made it, then we wouldnt like anything. Everyone has their flaws. No one has to support their flaws. (I'm still saying Rowling and Paterson are terrible people that I'd hate to meet.)
I am not my art, and my art is not me. If I want to use the Harry Potter world as inspiration for a HP au, that doesnt mean I support Rowling or anything she stands for.
Seperate the art from the artist.
I apologize if this was harsh, but It seemed necessary. If you have any quarrels with me on this, take it to my DMs or remove yourself from my page.

Growing up with Melanie Martinez and now distancing myself from her music would be such a shock to my younger self who relied on her music as an escape from home and school life, as well as bullying. She was obsessed and claimed to love her forever, now I think she's a disgusting person.
Crybaby and K-12 got me through so much, it's almost impossible for me to not hold those albums close to my heart. They're also both incredible albums, musically, which I will never deny.
Good thing that Melanie's music sounds fantastic as nightcore! That's basically how I exclusively listen to her music now on soundcloud, uploaded by anyone that's not her <3 either that or by downloading her songs off yt as mp4s :)

my worst fear?
some low life trying to separate me from my art. 🤬
Everything I make is en extension of me, even if, hypothetically, I didn’t agree with its messages. I am the things I make. The things I make are me.
unless something I made came to life and stuck it’s pinky out at me, my art does not have a mind of its own and thus is wholeheartedly a representation of me and my views.
also, just for context: I support marginalized people, so that makes me good by default compared to the likes of… some other people out there. They don’t deserve to be honored by your attention. And since what I said about my art doesn’t just apply me… before you get into something, research the creator.
if you like something that was made by a bad person, you aren’t bad. In fact, I feel sorry for you. You guys are just so frustrating sometimes. The most healthy and harm-free thing to do is move on and find something else to love. Like when you get out of a bad home or relationship.

One thing for those who have watched The Boy and The Heron or will watch it. The Japanese title for it is How Do You Live? And Miyazaki stated he was leaving it for his grandson, saying, "Grandpa is moving onto the next world soon but he is leaving behind this film".
The deaths of contemporaries and friends such as Satoshi Kon and Isao Takahata and also the expected successor of Yoshifumi Kondo were things that have always weighed heavily on the back of Miyazaki's mind.
He recognizes the industry and the occupation for how soul crushing it was, grinding up either the spirit or the physical body of those who work in it. He loves and hates the industry he stands on the peak of and fully recognizes how it will probably be the death of him. And he knows it'll leave him unable to say a lot of things to his Grandson.
So How Do You Live? is a lesson. For his grandson. For himself. For his two sons. And probably for anyone else willing to pay attention.
Hayao Miyazaki is a flawed man that makes things so important to so many people. And I think more than any other film of his, in this you get to pull back the curtain a bit and see him at work. And what should be this giant unblemished titan can be seen for what he is, a sad old man who had higher hopes for himself and has even higher hopes for the people he makes his work for.
It's a beautiful thing to see another's humanity in their work. To look past the artifice and glam of commercialized art and find humans behind it. And humans willing to show their humanity and mortality is even rarer. And something to be celebrated. So when you watch it. Or if you've watched it already. Understand that this film is Miyazaki kneeling down, weary after years of weaving dreams and making mistakes, reaching out and saying to you that he hopes you can do better. It's an old man who's made all the mistakes of the world passing it on to you, hoping you do better, and making sure you know it's okay if you don't.
How do you Live? By making mistakes. By messing up. But still moving forward. And still reaching out.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered their pcs as lil gunieapigs to me<3 I had a lot of fun experimenting with different coloring styles
The MS Paint Template was made by Mayuniki on Pixilart, you can find it HERE
The Player Characters from left to right: -Andy belongs to @dolbog -Ayesha belongs to @kylars-owner -Ken/Mackenzie belongs to @rootedshrew -The legendary Foxglove belongs to @getinthefuckingcarkitten -Poe belongs to @hemlocks-hidey-hole -and last but not least, Jet belongs to @uncontrolledinsomnia
I made some executive decisions when interpreting the designs: like adding accessoires, changing hairsytles a bit, interpreting facial features differently or just doing my own thing with some of the outfits. I hope thats okay haha ( I could ramble on about my thought process on a lot of these designs but I'll cut myself off) I might make a seperate post for this, but its legit kinda tragic; cause most of these drawings are cut off. I just couldnt fit the full versions into a cohesive layout.
Most tragic loss is the disappearance of the lower half of this Sweater I put on Ken, its by mingalondon and by god i want it

"seperate art from the artist!" until the art itself is encouraging, popularizing, and monetizing said artist.
i physically cannot separate the art from the artist if they are genuinely a bad person. i can't listen to a song or look at art without thinking of the allegations or what they did. i'll feel guilty and repulsed the entire time, even if i enjoy the media.
"they could never make me hate you!!" Massive side eye from me unfortunately 💔🐺

Remember that it’s okay to like imperfect/flawed media or media that has a bad reputation. Read Harry Potter, watch DSMP, make MHA fanart, the only thing stopping you is second hand shame brought upon you by people who don’t like to have fun

Good evening (or morning, depending on your timezone).
Absolutely no hate, but I want to ask how you reconcile your enjoyment of the show with the reality of what Ikuhara has (most likely) done?/gen
I understand Death of the Author, but what drew me to Utena in the first place was its theme of critiquing the patriarchy and calling out abuse, which feels somewhat hypocritical now. I resonate with this show, and many of Ikuhara's other shows, on a personal level, which is why I am especially disappointed with the accusations since I now have to wonder how that reflects onto me as a person...?
Obviously I don't know you personally, but you seem to spend a lot of time and care on your analyses (which are great btw) so have you also struggled with this?
Again, there is like zero judgement when I say this and I'm absolutely not trying to come off as hostile (in case that is how this reads). And, there is no pressure on you to answer this and I'll completely understand if you want to ignore the ask.
Thanks.
hi, i've been thinking about this as well since yesterday, and it is kind of tough to figure out how to feel about. i think it's important to remember that ikuhara did not make revolutionary girl utena alone, for one. he had a whole team of writers and animators and producers and so on, that it would not exist without. obviously ikuhara played a big part in the show's creation, but far from the only one (if it was, i have no doubt it would be very very different), and . idk what my point really is here but i don't think his actions reflect on the show as a whole. it still is what it is, it still says the same important things about our society's systems of abuse that we've always talked about, even if the director didn't understand it or didn't want to understand it or however you want to put it. and by extension i don't think it reflects on to all the people who have enjoyed the show, who have seen their experiences in it, who have learned from it more about how this kind of abuse works and so on. and i think we need to be aware of what has (allegedly, but again, i believe it) happened, but i don't necessarily think we need to write off the show just because he had a hand in making it. because it is just as important as we've always known it to be, you know? though i think there are (as there has always been and there always is in anything) elements of the show to be critical of, and maybe some new things as well in light of this. i'll have to think about it more.
