Logically Eugene knew he had alternate reality counterparts. Logically he was aware they existed and may or may not be rangers, or any variety of other things. Logically he was aware of this.

It still surprised him when he was knocked on his ass doing a routine sweep of another reality for Drakkon with Ranger Slayer. And it surprised him more when he realized it was by an orange Ranger with a devastatingly familiar voice. A middle aged Skull Skullovitch in a lurid orange suit taunting the Sentries until his capture. Eugene can’t help but keep visiting, though never daring to take off his own helmet. Orange feels familiar and Eugene feels intense jealousy. And Skull well….

It’s not even looking at a bad reflection. This is just him in a color he doesn’t want to relate to. Which bothers Eugene more than he wants to admit, and sends him into a spiral he’s not proud of. It’s starting to get to the point he’s not sure if he’s more like Skull….

The ghosts danced to the tunes of his grand piano, making merry in times when no living could bring themselves to smile.

The ghosts of all those who had lost their lives to Lord Drakkon and his tyranny, all of those tortured, destroyed souls who had finally found peace in their deaths. They liked seeing that at least someone in the entire palace could do something he liked, even if it was in the dead silence of midnight. Even if the little man couldn’t see them all, they knew he felt it.

There was always this one little ghost who never seemed to enjoy the music, though. The little boy who was barely sixteen when he was murdered by the tyrant— blonde hair, wobbly spectacles. Instead of dancing, instead of laughing, he would quietly go and sit next to the Red Sentry on the piano stool while he played the songs, listening quietly, not quite saying anything, almost as if there was so much he wanted to say, but stopping himself knowing his words would never reach the pianist.

I am once again playing with the All Our Injuries Rhyme AU, but slightly out of joint.

Something I like to think about in the World of the Coinless Timeline that other writers for the fandom also seem to sense that I am going to try and contextualize for my own piece of mind...because I'm annoying myself. Drakkon collects Red-type energy as a type of holistic healing. Think about it, just for a second. He caught Jason in the middle of his being transformed into the White Ranger because he had to win that "last battle" to please Rita, and he did take the White Light for himself...but he kept Jason. First in a cell while he kept the Power Coin for his highest ranking sentries, no armor, goading him into taking action without any additional strength. And then the second he gets out, he puts him in nth type armor so they can have a go at beating the crap out of each other. Then he puts him in a glorified trophy case that, by all impressions, he visits often enough that Jason still had muscle and a slight tan and didn't look to be missing any meals. The classic antagonistic Green vs Red. It feeds him, something like a hot breakfast and a meat sandwich at lunch and a seven course meal with all the trimmings at dinner. Then he collected Kim by warping her mind, which was different, I think, because he was increasingly enamored with her, but she's Pink, which means she's Red+White, which is a higher functioning call to the crap he pulled with the Black Dragon Coin. He knows she's better than him, which turns him on, but also seems to make them...slightly more distant? Somehow?? Like standing out in an open field and looking up at a wishing star. It's good for him, but it also makes his yearning especially annoying. And then there's Skull, who canon dictates IS ORANGE, even if he is hiding in Red as a Sentry. He is literally RIGHT THERE next to Drakkon as a high ranking member of his army every. single. day. A night at the fireside while doing paperwork and the reminder that sleep is important in a warm bed with heavy down covers. I can't for the life of me figure out if this is just a Drakkon thing, or a Tommy Oliver multiverse thing, or a Green Ranger thing. Because White just...doesn't work the same way?

What does self-care look like for you?:

Strength exercises. Especially for his hands after Skull cut the tendons in his wrists.

Smoothing his fingers over the tether stones--green serpentine and rough jade--Jason brought him on a lark.

Cooking different variations of eggs--sometimes even managing to make ramen to go along with them.

What makes you cry?:

Before? When he was in bed with Jason and tried to enter him, but no matter if Jason gave actual true consent, he'd always go limp. Same thing with his Ranger Slayer in the very beginning of his thinking her being by his side could fix him. It was so humiliating and made it clear that the only thing out of his control was himself.

After...

Well, basically everything After fell under the umbrella of breaking down to cry. The pain in his head from his skull being split open, the way his hands couldn't stop shaking from the Grid withdrawal, how he pissed the hospital bed after they took the catheter out, how the consciousness he'd thought dead roared to life and screamed at him about all the years wasted...

Not being to eat or drink by himself for over a week, having to re-learn how to read.

Seeing Adam in Green with a far more noble and protective disposition than he'd ever had.

See Skull in a wheelchair come to see him by himself with all the files containing the history Drakkon never knew were as important as they turned out to be.

Seeing Kimberly made him cry in under three seconds on first meeting after his surgery.

Seeing Jason the first time after he was wearing White didn't even allow him to blink before the tears and convulsions and throwing up.

What's your pet peeve?:

Being called 'Tommy' when the Prime Rangers drop in on the aftermath of his losing the Battle for the Grid. True, he's not Drakkon anymore and--if Adam and Skull were to be believed--the name might have only been taken up in an effort to distance himself from humanity; but that name holds something inside of it that he can't name.

'Tommy' is the White Ranger. Tommy is trusted and loved and believed in by all worlds.

'Tommy' is not him.

Even during Jason and his little games in the bedroom, when he asked to be called such, it wasn't him.

Maybe his pet peeve is hearing any address towards him when he's still so uncomfortable in his own skin.

Do you have any insight into your mental bullshit?:

As well as can be expected, which is to say...not until the end.

Given that when he was on the throne, he never had any scans or basic check-ups because he believed himself incapable of becoming ill while using the Dragon and Tiger Coins in tandem every single day, only really relinquishing their power when he was asleep or needed skin to skin contact with his favorite toys. In decades, he was rarely injured, and when he was it never involved his head, just deep cuts or gashes that could be healed by the Grid.

To imagine that he had a mental disorder perpetuated by a genetic predisposition for an illness that killed off the mother he never knew and the brother he'd long forgotten...it never crossed his mind.

Getting his head cracked open because Jason asked for confirmation on notes Adam had found under Skull's floorboards; getting surgery where he went to sleep spitting expletives and woke up feeling hollowed out like a pumpkin; getting to see the reason for everything that went wrong could fit inside the kind of medical cup people pissed in for a drug test.

Once he stopped trying to kill himself, and his hands stopped shaking long enough that he could review his school and medical and foster records with Jason--yes, it did give him some insight.

There are so many different versions of all of these boy and all the rest of the kiddies, omg. Wouldn't it be nice if my divergent brain could maintain peace with all the AUs? Whatever; I can just use his baseline personality.

Describe yourself with 3 singers:

Tori Amos; bold and brilliant and with a voice not terribly different from the one in his head in certain circumstances. Does what she wants and doesn't give a damn about other people's opinion. Ed Kowalczyk, lead singer of the band LIVE. Though strictly for the Throwing Copper album of 1994. Bulk once caught him trying to perform on the acoustic guitar in his garage the song "Iris" and mentioned Skull sounded almost spot-on like the artist, "Just give it a couple years." Which was not untrue. David Bowie in his song "Heart's Filthy Lesson" played at the beginning and ending of the movie Se7en. Oh so very symbolic, in his opinion.

Favorite book?:

Gerald's Game, by Stephen King. Not one of his most favored works, not one of his classics, but the reading of it has helped get him out of quite a few more scrapes than he would have otherwise. It's informative and meditative.

If your world hadn't went to hell in a hand basket, what do you think you'd be doing now?:

The first thing that comes to mind is having actually comfortable sex, since there is a fair bit of certainty that he would have kept his balls and wouldn't have allowed his prick to be inverted to keep his cover when he joined the wretched Red Sentries all because Drakkon thought it might be easier to keep other captains in line if there was a hole to relieve their stress readily available...

But apart from that...it is a rather difficult thing to imagine--the possibility of his being happy. His background can basically be summed up as "poor white trash with negligent/abusive parents and mental illness that required medication since puberty" when he's feeling generous. His grades in school were mediocre, he had self-esteem issues for days, depression, anxiety, the kind of migraines that could cause blindness; and while he was excellent at music, he would never let anyone actually see him perform...

Of course, hindsight is 20/20. Maybe he could have at least gone to college to major in the humanities, or found love, or had a child. He's seen plenty of other worlds in Drakkon's conquests; he's not unaware that some of his other selves seemed at least content.
