Writing Challenge Day 19: Emergency

The Lord of Darkness barked a laugh as she cast her spell. The black that she exuded filled the arena, leaving the heroes a small patch of light. The whole party recoiled from the harsh winds that blew against them from all sides. The Sorcerer collapsed, the magic too much for him. The rest were close to being downed. One more hit from the Lord of Darkness and the entire party would be killed.

“Senneca!” Bertrand barked from his position in front of the rest of the group. His shield looked close to breaking, and a streak of blood half blinded him. “Use the Elixir of Life! Even a little more time should help us break through the Lord of Darkness’s defenses!”

Senneca, the Hero of the Land, Chosen by the Fates, Savior of the Sunken City of Sibolant, Heir to the throne of Marishkar, Tamer of Dragons, Ambassador to the Troll Empire, the most powerful Mage the world has ever seen, hesitated. “But Bertrand, what if she’s got something even bigger at her disposal? What if we need the Elixir of Life then?” 

The entire party turned to face her. Senneca’s face was as impassive as it ever was.

“You’re serious?” The thief, Tessarose, asked. The confusion was palpable in her voice. 

“Sen, I’m nearly out of MP.” Yosef remarked. “I can only bring back ONE of our party members, and that’s if the Lord of Darkness doesn’t target me first. Use the Elixir.”

“We still have a couple of people left! We could make it!” Senneca insisted.

“If you mean the literal child and the man who insists on dressing up as a troll, then we’re definitely going to die.” Bertrand barked back. Even the Lord of Darkness seemed concerned. It was something in the void-filled eyes, or perhaps how the gigantic arms that had been readied to attack fell a little.

“Use the godsdamn elixir, Sen.” Tessarose started to raise her voice and the throwing daggers she kept between her fingers twitched even faster than they did normally. “Or I’ll personally feed you to that gaping maw.”

Throwing up her hands, Senneca muttered something darkly and tossed the Elixir into the air. Sparkling light shone from the crystal and the party breathed a sigh of relief as the healing magics brought all of them back to full health. There was enough time for Bertrand to get in a couple of hits before the Lord of Darkness shifted her form. Instead of a gaping mouth with gigantic arms springing out of it, she was now a scorpion. The huge stinger struck, leaving the party with even low health and filled with venom. 

“What did I JUST finish telling you??” Senneca snarked before succumbing to the darkness.
