forever thinking about royal’s bad ending. my thing with it is that maruki doesn’t necessarily give anyone what they want most, he gives them what’s most appropriate for them to want within a maruki-approved framework. iirc there’s a really interesting text sequence in the game where he just straight up changes someone’s career because they’re not “good” at it, regardless of whether that’s what they actually want. why struggle at all? ever? right?

and so ultimately i don’t think goro akechi’s greatest wish is necessarily ren. i think it’s a wish for sure, but his greatest wish is his own agency. despite any regrets he has and the fact that shido and yaldabaoth treated him like a pawn, he's generally pretty adamant about owning his choices and their consequences. he doesn't want that erased. and instead, you end up with pleasant boy™ if you take maruki’s deal. maybe maruki (incorrectly) thinks sanding off all of akechi’s rough edges will make him easier for ren to love. but the crux of it is really that maruki has to essentially lobotomize him to preserve the illusion of his perfect reality, because their ideologies are so diametrically opposed that akechi would spend every waking moment fighting back.

this isn’t to undermine ren’s importance to akechi btw — he explicitly acknowledges that he wishes they had met earlier, and there are countless moments throughout their confidant that underscore how much it means to him that they mirror each other so well. he absolutely does want more time with ren, just not under these circumstances.

and that’s also what makes ren’s choice on 2/2 doubly devastating. he knows that either way he loses akechi. and if he takes maruki’s deal, he loses him knowing that his last moments with the real akechi involved the two of them being unforgivably out of sync.

It's funny how Akechi had resentment, envy and love for Joker as well and wanted to stay dead. But Maruki thought "Two for the price of one" with both Sumire and Akechi.

Maruki never went into Goro's head as far as we know, at least not in depth. But he knows that Akira cares about Goro, and that this could be used as leverage (Maruki can say he didn't intend for it to be blackmail all he wants but WHAT ELSE WAS BRINGING AKECHI BACK FOR). Maruki holds a sort of respect for Akira and wanted him to come over to his side willingly. Goro came back not because Maruki thought it would be what's best for Goro, but because he knew that's what Akira wanted.

Ghost and Soap have this….. thing going on.

Ghost isn’t talking about it.

They sit by each other during meals, they hang out in each others rooms, they sing bad renditions of pop songs when the comms are quiet, they make out in Ghost’s bed, they read over each other’s reports, they stand forehead to forehead in dark corners when it all gets too much for the both of them.

And Ghost is not talking about it.

He never gets to just have something like this. He treasures every kiss under the sheets and soft linking of pinkies, because he feels like it could break at any moment. He has too much of his soul riding on this thing. To put a name to something that could tear him apart is terrifying.

So, yeah, he’s not talking about it.

I think about the way Akechi died a lot. He was killed by a cognitive version of himself, Shido's cognitive version of him, the embodiment of the puppet he had created. I think about the fact that he killed himself, not in the way that term usually indicates, but he did.

Akechi, with the fresh realization that the Phantom Thieves dying isn't what he really wants, the realization that despite how complicated everything is and despite every horrible thing he did some of them acknowledge his ability, and some of them tell him they understand. It would be easier if they fully hated him, but they don't. They all try their best to reach out to him, and he tells them that they should just get rid of him instead.

This is the most vulnerable he is throughout the whole game. Maybe he would've accepted their hand, but before he can the version of him that Shido created rears its ugly head. It's a cruel reminder of all the worst parts of himself, a caricature of the person he became after he started working with Shido. A reminder of how little control he has over his life.

The point is, as he says:

So Akechi faces it, and he loses to it. But in the process he also stops that version of himself from hurting the Phantom Thieves more than he already has. He takes back control, however fleeting, to ultimately end his own life.

How much do you think Ren's final words to him meant to him, a way of letting Akechi know that he will remember him? He spent his whole life longing to be wanted by someone, and he gets to know he was. But it's too late to stop the gun that's pointed at him from firing.

Recorder Scandal in my room

We three — Bubbles, Blossom and I (wow so original Kanya) were roommates. We were literally ‘the girl gang’, we were so well bonded together. I still miss that girl gang feeling. One day, an argument broke between the Bubbles & Blossom. By the end of the evening, they had sorted it out and everything was fine yeah?

Bubbles told us she is gonna go out. And while going, she left her spare phone in the room with the recorder on to see what we would do and talk in her absence 😀

And like she predicted, Blossom opened up to me about how she felt about the whole fight that happened in the morning and that she thought the apology wasn’t genuine. Then she added how she dislikes the way Bubbles talks with her mother in a very demeaning and disrespectful manner and how controlling and orthodox her family is (she mentioned they are going to get Bubbles married in 3rd or 4th year of med school)

And I hummed in agreement BECAUSE I WAS CONCERNED. Although it wasn’t of any my business, as a friend, I really wanted Bubbles to talk respectfully with her mother. Irdc about their dynamics but ordering and demeaning her mom to not wear a dress but to wear a fully covered saree and a ghungat in 2023 was concerning to me 😭

Yeah so I agreered and the conversation ended there. Bubbles came back relatively early. Picked up the spare phone and started listening the recording. Wrote a long ass message to both of us saying how she hates us and nada nada and started weeping.

Now truly speaking, meri fatt ke 4 ho gai. As a girl, realising you were fucking recorded in your own fucking room is scary as hell. I called my mom, she was speechless. She told me to sort things out and get better of it. I did that. Despite not even being 10% as wrong as anyone involved, I tried to apologise and make the matter better but nah. She and her family started abusing Me and Blossom

So I was like, okay bitch. You wanna do it the dirty way. Next day, we called the hostel authorities and I told Bubbles that I will sue her for a breach of Privacy in a foreign country and get the passport detained 😊

Now what do you think was the reaction? Bubbles said her family has political influence (meri wapas fatt gai bhai) and her brother threatened to behead me with a sword. I was like HUH⁉️ She also got a few of my super seniors to wrongly accuse me of something I didn’t do.

Enter my bf with an even bigger political influence (what the actual fuck?) 😙 Told me to threaten them back with his name and made the super seniors apologise to me (i love life)

So yeah, this is how it ended. We changed rooms and my petty ass told the entire college about how Bubbles put a recorder in the room so nobody talks to them really. My head is fine, nobody tried to behead it (for now).
