Fruits Basket Personality Types Part 13: Hiro Sohma
I really love Hiro's growth over the course of Fruits Basket. He's the youngest of the main and secondary characters, so it makes sense that he's the most immature at first. I love how important it is to him to be a good big brother. I love how he starts off as a contrarian brat and ends up as a brave and conscientious friend (and boyfriend!). I love that he works so hard to grow and to be the kind of person he wants to be.
I also love that he ends up back at Kisa's side, even though his love for her was the reason Akito gave for attacking Kisa. He'll have a big part to play in the climax of Bloom Within Us for that reason!
Here's how I see his personality!
Hiro Sohma's Enneagram
Wound: His parents are shown to be very loving, and we don't know much about his pre-canon life, so his wound might be that he told Akito about his feelings for Kisa which caused Kisa to get hurt, though wounds typically happen at a younger age.
Wounding message: (If the wound above is correct) You'll only cause the people you love to get hurt. You shouldn't express your desires. Mistakes can have huge consequences.
Core desire: To be the best version of himself, to be with Kisa without causing her any more harm.
Core fear: Not doing the right thing, causing others to be harmed
Defense mechanism: Assert superiority over others
Strengths: Hiro grows to be quite principled and brave. He's clever, understands what makes people tick (for better or worse), intensely loyal to his people, constantly trying to improve himself, and very family-oriented.
Challenges: Hiro is bratty at first. He's hurtful, rigid, critical, pessimistic, emotionally dishonest, insensitive and he knows just where to poke so it'll hurt the most.
When healthy: Hiro is more relationship-oriented, emotionally honest, principled, brave, relaxed, and friendly.
When unhealthy: Hiro is vindictive, mean, rigid, critical of himself and others, resentful, and argumentative.
Looking at all of this, here's what connects when I go back to the Enneagram post:
Wound: closest matches are 1, 6, and 8
Wounding message: 1, 3, 8, or 9
Core desire: 1
Core fear: 1 or 3
Defense mechanism: 1
Strengths: 1 or 8
Challenges: 1, 3, or 8
When healthy: 3, 4, or 8
When unhealthy: 1, 2, or 7
Um. So as a One myself, I did not expect Hiro to be a One. At all. But... it actually does fit him quite well. I'd argue that his greatest strength is his drive for self-improvement and how principled he can be, both classic One qualities. And his greatest weakness is probably the resentment and criticism (both of himself and others) that's typical of Ones. I actually can't believe I didn't think of One for him before beginning this post! 😅
Ones live in the Gut center, and tend to repress anger. Here's the full description of how Ones relate to the three core emotions, from Personality Path:
Anger is typically repressed by Type 1s. Type 1s try hard not to express anger as they associate it as a “bad” emotion. Instead, they report a lot of irritation. Interestingly, when their anger is eventually expressed, it can be intense, with a laser focus. Shame or Sadness can get triggered when they realize they made a mistake or if they feel they have behaved inappropriately. Fear enters the picture when they feel a loss of control or anxiety over potential errors, mistakes, and missteps in the future. A harsh inner voice dictating rigid internal standards is often at the bottom of each of the three core emotions for Type 1s.
Wing
Hiro is very clearly not the peace-making type (1w9, "The Idealist") so I suspect he's a 1w2, sometimes called "The Advocate" (like me!).
Truity describes 1w2s like this:
[1w2s] are more focused on the livelihoods of other people, and champion causes focused on meeting people’s needs. They may appear overly controlling or critical of other people in an effort to help them become the “best version” of themselves. Like the Type Two, this type wants to help and feel appreciated. 1w2s are drawn to careers in medicine, law, religion and social justice.
I know I'm not the only person who sees Hiro as a future lawyer!
Subtype
I don't think Hiro has a strong expression of his subtype yet, but most of his energy seems to be aimed at his own self-improvement. For that reason, I think he's a SP 1w2 (also like me!).
Enneagram Explained describes SP Ones like this:
SP 1s are the more stereotypical perfectionists of the 1s and are more likely to deal with worry and anxiety (over being correct/right) than other type 1s. However, they are also often the more warm and friendly of the 1 subtypes.
Tritype
I actually think Hiro's Tritype is more obvious than his Enneagram. He strikes me as a very clear example of a 3-6-1 ("The Taskmaster")
This tritype is described on Katherine Fauvre's website:
If you are a 136, you are diligent, ambitious, and inquisitive. You want to be ethical, efficient, and dutiful. Highly industrious and responsible, you are focused on achievement. You feel obligated to be orderly and create a successful image as dictated by society. You emulate people you admire and cultivate values that others respect. Most importantly, you focus on your duty and commonly accepted ways of doing things to feel confident and at ease.
Hiro Sohma's MBTI
I liked focusing on Type Dynamics first for Rin, so I'll continue that for Hiro.
Type Dynamics:
Thinking: I see Hiro's Dominant function as Extroverted Thinking. He has concern for external laws and rules, and seeks consistency in the outside world.
Sensing: I think Hiro's Auxiliary function is Introverted Sensing. He prefers routine, and compares present facts and information to past sensory details.
iNtuiting: This would make Hiro's Tertiary function Extroverted Intuiting. He does tend to brainstorm aloud, making connections and asking questions that others wouldn't ask (like the implications of Kyo's feelings for Tohru given his impending confinement).
Feeling: Hiro guards his feelings and works from an internal system of values.
This makes him Te Si Ne Fi
I also want to share what The Myers & Briggs Foundation says about Fi as an inferior function in times of stress:
hypersensitive to emotions, feel emotional but try to control it, afraid of feeling strong emotions and try to hide it
Hiro hides his strong emotions by needling at others and trying to make them feel inferior.
Te Si Ne Fi is the type dynamic of ESTJ, which is often called "The Supervisor."
Here's how the Myers & Briggs Foundation describes ESTJ:
ESTJ: Practical, realistic, matter-of-fact. Decisive, quickly move to implement decisions. Organize projects and people to get things done, focus on getting results in the most efficient way possible. Take care of routine details. Have a clear set of logical standards, systematically follow them and want others to also. Forceful in implementing their plans.
So, to summarize:
Enneagram: SP 1w2 (The Reformer/The Advocate)
Tritype: 3-6-1 (The Taskmaster)
MBTI: ESTJ (The Supervisor)
It's funny; I had Hiro take on a bit of a Taskmaster/Supervisor role in some of the early chapters of Bloom Within Us, though we didn't see that side of him much in canon. I'm kind of excited that I recognized his leadership and organizational qualities, and I've landed on those qualities once again in this series!
What do you think? Did I get it right or wrong? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Next up: Ritsu!

Welcome
•This is my second blog, idk why I specifically made it but I’m gonna use it for something. Even if it’s for stupid/unnecessary things.
•My personal and OG blog isn’t gonna be as aesthetically pleasing but idc it’s my baby and I like the way it is now. so here, is gonna be the only place I’ll care about the image and visuals on it.
•I would write one-shots but I’m not emotionally stable or emotionally smart/capable of writing romance. There are reasons for it but I’m still learning about it, so for now it’s for private reasons. However, that won’t stop me from sharing my fav songs at the moment (I listen to everything so there’s enough to constantly share). My fav shows, groups, fandom, anime’s, movies, moods, etc etc.
•I’m a fan of almost every fandom you can imagine. Besides furries, 30-year-olds sexualizing and cosplaying as minors from animes (sorry it's a personal problem I have with that specifically), and things like that. (I would never be anything like that but if you are one, don’t take it offensively or personally, I just can’t ever see the reason or attraction to what you like nor will I ever).
•My bday is Jan 1st so I’m like a pure Jan Capricorn, I take that shit with pride too even if I don’t know too much about zodiacs. So if you ever wanna give cool and random facts about them, please do, I love hearing about it. But keep it interesting bc I get bored very easily lol.
•I do say very out-of-pocket things so if you are young and still have to lie about the year you were born to create an account on here, I’d feel more comfortable if you click off, but I know I can’t control you so what you see, read, hear, or find out, is your fault and you can’t blame or take any fault out on me at all even if the root came from me on here. You should’ve known what you possibly can see or find out when you create your Tumblr account. So don’t be a problem we def. Don’t need it.
•also I allow you to vent in my DMs, but do be aware, due to my childhood traumas that have mentally shaped me today, I’m very blunt and can’t give the best advice, I’m more of a fact girlie than an emotional one. So I’ll most likely give some tough love, if you can’t handle it (not in a mean way but in a way meaning, you need to be told gently or kindly) I’m not the person you should be venting to.
•also, I will joke about my absent mother, you can laugh. She’s not here to stop me from making them or stop you from laughing. So don’t feel bad. My trauma is my trauma and I can choose how to act and reflect on it. So I choose to have dark humor. (can't forget about my asshole of a father, boy how I wish he was the one who'd go to the store to get milk 💀. Again, I'm a proud oversharer so leave if you have a problem with it. Like rn. If my humor doesn’t fit with you then don’t comment hateful shit bc I love blocking bitches so try me. N e ways, just scroll past me or leave my blog, I only want good vibes and fun times).
•If you read this all, thanks bc I let Grammarly do the test of the work after typing it and I didn’t read it through all the way, word for word. So congrats (I will later on when I feel like it but not rn)

I would like to ask which of the HSR characters would be their favorite type of Goth Girl and how they interact with the goth girl reader.
HSR characters and their favourite type of Goth Girl
Hmm, that's a good question! I'm not very familiar with fashion, so I had to look up the different subtypes(?) and styles of Gothic fashion. Here’s what I came up with, but keep in mind—this is just my opinion on these specific characters!
Blade – Traditional or Occult Goth
Blade would gravitate towards a goth style that embodies the Traditional or Occult Goth aesthetic—dark, intense, and reminiscent of ancient mysteries. This style complements his own fractured soul and aligns with his sense of danger and fatalism.
Blade would admire her goth style in a quiet, intense way. He’d likely avoid compliments, but his lingering gaze would speak volumes. Occasionally, he’d make cryptic remarks about her choice of symbols or accessories, intrigued by the darker meaning behind her look.
He’d invite her on nighttime walks, where they could talk about life, pain, and purpose. Blade would share his own views on suffering and self-destruction, finding solace in knowing that someone understands the allure of darkness without flinching.
When she shares her own struggles, Blade would respond with empathy, quietly urging her to embrace her scars. He’d consider her as a kindred spirit, united by a mutual understanding of darkness, perhaps even guiding her towards finding strength in their pain.
Kafka – Elegant or Victorian Goth
Kafka would be enchanted by an Elegant or Victorian Goth style, one that exudes mystery, timeless beauty, and a touch of refined danger. A style that combines old-world charm with darker, alluring elements would captivate her attention.
Kafka would treat her as her accomplice, matching her elegance with her own polished look. She’d appreciate her ability to blend dark, regal sophistication with subtle danger and would often compliment her in her composed, low-key way.
She would revel in their shared love for all things dark and alluring, occasionally teasing her with whispered secrets and mysterious invitations, making her feel like part of an exclusive, hidden world.
Whenever the reader/she reveals a darker or emotional side, Kafka would listen intently, then offer her hypnotic words of wisdom, nudging her towards a balanced yet sophisticated approach to their emotions. She’d subtly manipulate her into embracing her elegance as armor.
Sunday – Dreamy or Romantic Goth
Sunday would be drawn to a goth style that embodies a sense of ethereal beauty and dreamy mystique, like a Romantic or Dreamy Goth. This aesthetic, filled with delicate lace, ethereal black layers, celestial accessories.
Sunday would admire her goth look as if she's an angel of the night, often complimenting the dark beauty she bring to his Sweetdream Paradise. With poetic and enigmatic language, he'd express how she reminds him of a serene vision, free from the pain of the waking world.
Behind closed doors, he’d reveal a gentler, protective side, seeing her as someone worth preserving in his dream-like world. He’d subtly ask her about her philosophy on life and pain, curious if she'd share his perspective on a reality without suffering.
Whenever she displays a darker or more melancholic side, Sunday would be there to “soothe” her spirit, gently guiding her towards his paradise—although this “soothing” might actually involve urging her to escape painful thoughts.
Robin – Ethereal or Pastel Goth
Robin would admire an Ethereal or Pastel Goth style, with softer tones like lavender and violet combined with traditional goth elements. This blend of gentleness and depth aligns with her own music and tragic past, which holds an undercurrent of beauty amidst sorrow.
Robin would feel a comforting connection with the reader’s look, as it aligns with her own aesthetic of blending light and dark. She’d often give small, heartfelt compliments, noting how her style reminds her of a bittersweet melody.
She’d enjoy quiet moments with the reader, perhaps inviting her to her studio, where they’d share their thoughts on beauty, darkness, and the ways they each express their emotions. Robin might even dedicate a song to her, inspired by her unique blend of innocence and mystery.
When the reader is feeling down, Robin would offer soft-spoken support, listening patiently and reminding her of the beauty in every emotion, treating her struggles like notes in a beautiful song that deserve to be heard.
Aventurine – Cyber or Industrial Goth
Aventurine would appreciate a goth style that leans into cyber or industrial aesthetics—think metal accessories, bold colors, and futuristic touches. This type of goth aligns with his strategic mind and love for taking calculated risks, mixing sophistication with an edge.
Aventurine would be fascinated by her bold look, often pulling her aside to compliment her style in a playful, flirtatious way. He’d likely buy her accessories, such as metallic chokers or bracelets, to enhance her look and treat her style as another high-stakes investment, always encouraging her to be bold.
With his knack for creating excitement, Aventurine would take her to the casinos or exclusive places where they could revel in the aesthetic together. He’d suggest that every encounter and style choice is part of a larger game, creating an atmosphere of thrill and risk, which he finds irresistible.
When the reader shares her darker feelings or thoughts, he’d humorously encourage her to “double down” on it, teaching her to gamble with her emotions, to transform them into something powerful and alluring.
I hope you like it! I tried my best, and it was challenging to decide styles (and writing for a female reader as I'm used to writing for gender neutral) and all, so I really hope you enjoy it 🫶❤️🩹

can you do a post about the forms of paranoia? Making up situations and anonymous online interactions, getting lost in your own head kinda of situation? 🥹😍
Writing Notes: Paranoia
PARANOIA
A paranoid state (i.e., a condition characterized by delusions of persecution or grandiosity that are not as systematized and elaborate as in a delusional disorder or as bizarre as in paranoid schizophrenia. Also called paranoid condition.)
A former diagnosis for a relatively rare disorder, distinct from paranoid schizophrenia, in which the person reasons rightly from a wrong premise and develops a persistent, well-systematized, and logically constructed set of persecutory delusions, such as being conspired against, poisoned, or maligned. It is equivalent to persecutory-type delusional disorder.
Historically, any psychiatric disorder characterized by persistent delusions. See also classical paranoia below.
In ancient times, any mental disorder or delirium.
An unfounded or exaggerated distrust of others, sometimes reaching delusional proportions. Paranoid individuals constantly suspect the motives of those around them, and believe that certain individuals, or people in general, are ‘‘out to get them.’’
The word paranoia comes from ancient Greek: nóos means ‘thought’; para- means ‘going beyond’.
In theory, the term denotes a mind that goes beyond the usual field of thought.
In practice, even in ancient Greek, it indicated a delusional manner of thinking.
But the concept was not as well known as it is today.
It was 19th century German psychiatry that brought it into modern discourse.
In politics, the word paranoia is often used to criticize an opponent, though probably few of the people who use it could actually explain what it means. Only rarely has the term been used self-critically.
Classical Paranoia
Conceptualized in the 19th century by German physician Karl Ludwig Kahlbaum (1828–1899) and later refined by Emil Kraepelin.
A rare disorder characterized by elaborate, fixed, and systematic delusions, usually of a persecutory, grandiose, or jealous character, that develop insidiously, cannot be accounted for by any psychiatric disorder, and exist in the context of preserved logical and orderly thinking.
Delusional Disorder
In DSM–IV–TR, (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition, the diagnostic standard for mental health professionals in the United States) any one of a group of psychotic disorders with the essential feature of one or more nonbizarre delusions that persist for at least 1 month but are not due to schizophrenia.
The delusions are nonbizarre in that they feature situations that could conceivably occur in real life (e.g., being followed, poisoned, infected, deceived by one’s government).
Diagnosis also requires that the effects of substances (e.g., cocaine) or a medical condition be ruled out as causes of the delusions.
Formerly called paranoid disorder.
7 types of delusional disorder are specified, according to the theme of the delusion:
Erotomanic type: Central theme of the delusion is that another person is in love with the individual.
Grandiose type: Central theme of the delusion is the conviction of having some great (but unrecognized) talent or insight or having made some important discovery.
Jealous type: Central theme of the individual’s delusion is that his or her spouse or lover is unfaithful.
Persecutory type: Central theme of the delusion involves the individual’s belief that he or she is being conspired against, cheated, spied on, followed, poisoned or drugged, maliciously maligned, harassed, or obstructed in the pursuit of long-term goals.
Somatic type: Central theme of the delusion involves bodily functions or sensations.
Mixed type: This subtype applies when no one delusional theme predominates.
Unspecified type: The dominant delusional belief cannot be clearly determined or is not described in the specific types (e.g., referential delusions without a prominent persecutory or grandiose component).
Criteria for delusional disorder in DSM–5 and DSM-5-TR also include the following:
The delusions may be either nonbizarre or bizarre (i.e., implausible), and
their potential presence as a result of an ingested substance, a medical condition, or another mental disorder sometimes associated with firmly held delusional beliefs (e.g., obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder) must be ruled out.
Paranoid perceptions and behavior may appear as features of a number of mental illnesses, including depression and dementia, but are most prominent in 3 types of psychological disorders:
paranoid schizophrenia,
delusional disorder (persecutory type), and
paranoid personality disorder (PPD).
Individuals with paranoid schizophrenia and persecutory delusional disorder experience what is known as persecutory delusions: an irrational, yet unshakable, belief that someone is plotting against them.
Persecutory delusions in paranoid schizophrenia are bizarre, sometimes grandiose, and often accompanied by auditory hallucinations.
Delusions experienced by individuals with delusional disorder are more plausible than those experienced by paranoid schizophrenics; not bizarre, though still unjustified.
Individuals with delusional disorder may seem offbeat or quirky rather than mentally ill, and, as such, may never seek treatment.
Persons with paranoid personality disorder tend to be:
self-centered,
self-important,
defensive, and
emotionally distant.
Their paranoia manifests itself in constant suspicions rather than full-blown delusions. The disorder often impedes social and personal relationships and career advancement.
Some individuals with PPD are described as ‘‘litigious,’’ as they are constantly initiating frivolous law suits.
PPD is more common in men than in women.
Typically begins in early adulthood.
The exact cause of paranoia is unknown. Potential causal factors may be:
genetics,
neurological abnormalities,
changes in brain chemistry, and
stress.
Paranoia is also a possible side effect of drug use and abuse (for example, alcohol, marijuana, amphetamines, cocaine, PCP).
Acute, or short term, paranoia may occur in some individuals overwhelmed by stress.
A summary of paranoid personality disorder (PPD) in the DSM-IV:
The principal defining features of paranoia are pervasive and unwarranted mistrust and suspiciousness of others.
People who are paranoid are locked into a rigid and maladaptive pattern of thought, feeling, and behavior based on the conviction that others are “out to get them.”
Their perception of the world as a threatening place drives them to be highly alert to any evidence suggesting that they are being victimized.
A constant search for proof of their victimization often leads them to misinterpret others’ comments and behaviors.
Hypersensitivity to slights, both imagined and real, combined with the tendency to have excessive confidence in their own knowledge and abilities, create tension in interpersonal relationships and leave social networks depleted.
If we want to assess where someone’s paranoia fits in the spectrum, we need to look at 4 key factors:
How much the person believes the paranoid thoughts.
How preoccupied the person is with the thoughts.
How distressing the thoughts are.
How much the thoughts interfere with everyday life.
Studies found that some people who respond in a paranoid way have 3 distinct emotional characteristics:
A greater tendency to worry.
Higher levels of anxiety.
Negative feelings about themselves and other people.
Some researchers have found that paranoia may be caused by the subtle interaction of 4 factors:
Anomalous experiences and ambiguous events
Our emotions
Our previous experiences
The way we reason
TREATMENT
Paranoia that is symptomatic of paranoid schizophrenia, delusional disorder, or paranoid personality disorder should be treated by a psychologist and/or psychiatrist.
Antipsychotic medication such as thioridazine (Mellaril), haloperidol (Haldol), chlorpromazine (Thorazine), clozapine (Clozaril), or risperidone (Risperdal) may be prescribed, and
cognitive therapy or psychotherapy may be employed to help the patient cope with their paranoia and/or persecutory delusions.
Antipsychotic medication, however, is of uncertain benefit to individuals with paranoid personality disorder and may pose long-term risks.
If an underlying condition, such as depression or drug abuse, is found to be triggering the paranoia, an appropriate course of medication and/or psychosocial therapy is employed to treat the primary disorder.
Don’t just accept your suspicious thoughts: question them.
Paranoid thoughts often seem really compelling and plausible—which is ironic since, by definition, they won’t stand up to careful scrutiny. Instead of taking them at face value, we need to challenge these thoughts, weighing up the evidence for and against, and seeking out alternative explanations for the way we’re feeling. Some questions people can ask themselves:
Is there anything that might suggest the paranoid thought could be wrong?
What would I say to a friend who came to me with a similar problem?
Are there any alternative explanations for what seems to have happened?
If I was feeling happier, would I still think of things in the same way? Are my past experiences getting in the way of me seeing the present situation clearly?

Qiu Lin character/enneagram analysis
@onelastskip thank you so much for the request!
I did have every intention of making this write up, sorry it took so long!! Unfortunately a lot of my hard ““evidence”” comes from beta and other patreon exclusive content, but I can absolutely write a more generalized and theoretical response about Qiu’s enneagram. And I literally just replayed the prologue yesterday so it is freshhh.
(I also love the enneagram, I prefer it over MBTI. Great minds think alike ;) )
And if you’re a newbie to the enneagram, don’t worry! I’ll be thorough with my explanations, so you should be able to follow along. Verrrrrry thorough hahahhaah. This post is literally over 2k words.
But! Just think about this as a general character analysis through the lense of the enneagram. It’ll be at least kind of interesting and fun, I promiseeee 😉🤞
So, anyway, let’s get started then.
I typed Qiu as a 3w2 sx/so
So what does this mean?
I believe that Qiu is an enneagram 3 with a 2 wing. The instinctual variants for their enneagram being sx and so. I’ll explain what that all means later on, but we’ll start with just about the basic description of the enneagram.
Enneagram 3 Description
The Enneagram is a personality theory that aims to describe the most vulnerable parts of ourselves, our hopes, our fears, our motivations, and potentially our trauma. It’s how we see the world and make sense of our emotions.
So then, what does it mean to be an enneagram 3?
Well, 3s in their most basic form, can be understood this way:
The enneagram 3 is defined by their need to differentiate themselves from other people through their accomplishments and can appear incredibly ambitious and goal oriented. 3s like to keep themselves busy, and their schedules are usually jam-packed with things to do. They’re very charismatic and acutely aware of the correct polite conduct. They make it a point to make good first impressions. 3s do not believe that they are inherently worthy of being loved, however, and that being loved comes as a result of what they can achieve. 3s fear their own irrelevancy, and are driven by a need for attention and admiration.
I’m sure you noticed that some of that description does fit Qiu! However, there’s a lot that *doesn’t* which probably stood out, and needs to addressed.
Like, what’s this about being super goal-oriented, ambitious, and needing to be successful? Nothing about Qiu, from what we’ve seen, proves that to be true about them.
Those of you who know the enneagram may even be thinking, “well, what about enneagram 2? They’re also people oriented, want to be liked and appreciated, and then we don’t have to worry about the fact that Qiu doesn’t seem necessarily ambitious or goal-oriented on being successful.”
Well, I kinda mislead you there. Because I think Qiu is very ambitious and goal-oriented, just not in the way we traditionally think about these concepts. Usually we think a person with these traits aims to someday have a high paying job, invent something new, do something genius that’ll get them celebrated worldwide or accumulate a comfortable amount of wealth. Which doesn’t sound like Qiu at all. But that’s not the only way this desire can be exhibited.
Instinctual Variants:
Thats where the instinctual variants of the enneagram come in. Instinctual variants are basically just subtypes of the enneagram, different ways in which the same enneagram can be presented. And it’s a part of enneagram that is relatively more unknown, but can actually be a huge help in figuring out which enneagram applies to you/a character. (So if you’re into enneagram at all, I recommend checking them out! Fair warning: the instinctual variants can really delve into the worst possible version of your psyche in a lot of cases, so be prepared for that. Be honest with yourself.)
Anyway, the instinctual variants are abbreviated as “sx”, “so”, and “sp”. These stand for “sexual”, “social”, and “self-preserving”, respectively.
I typed Qiu as a sexual 3. NOW CHILL cause before you come at me “sexual” doesn’t LITERALLY mean sexual, sexuality, sex, etc. I mean in some cases it can definitely be related, but it does not mean that inherently. And that’s not what I’m gonna be talking about with Qiu like at all. I don’t know why they called it that, I didn’t make it up. I just read about it and then apply it to fictional characters in my tumblr posts 😪
But anyway, the sx 3 can often times not look like a traditional 3, which would make Qiu a little difficult to type as a 3 initially. But once you get into the description of the sx 3, it starts to become more clear.
Sx 3s aren’t so much focused on making achievements in the real world so much as they are on pleasing others and creating an appealing image around themselves. They extract feelings of accomplishment from the happiness and success of the people around themselves. Unlike other 3s, sx 3s aim to connect to others mentally through supporting them. They expend much of their energy for the sake of other people, and they’re hardworking and ambitious in this way. They don’t necessarily feel the need for tangible achievement like other 3s. They love, admiration, and desire of others is enough for them. They are unconventional achievers in this way. Sexual 3s have a very community driven mentality, where they’re always looking out for the greater good of the whole team.
They can also often times feel the need to play into the role of an easily digestible feminine or masculine image, depending on how they were assigned at birth 😳 Whichhhh I want to yank a quote from the beta moment “fancy fun” for this so bad. But you’re just gonna have to guess what I’m talking about if you played it. And if you haven’t, I’m sorry 😔‼️ but I do feel like this point can be somewhat inferred from the demo, if only abstract based on how Qiu conducts themself.
Now, the enneagram 2’s flavor of wanting to be “likeable” isn’t necessarily rooted in being admired and looked up to. In a lot of ways, it’s the opposite. The enneagram 2 wants to be useful and needed by others. Qiu may feel like they are useful and that they are needed, but that’s not necessarily what they’re looking for. Qiu at the end of the day just wants for people think they’re cool and kind and the best friend ever. Which is why I don’t think they are a 2, they simply have a 2 wing. (The wing just being another thing that indicates what way the enneagram presents itself).
So yeah, I think sx 3 is the perfect fit for Qiu. Because while they don’t necessarily need to be revered for any personal accomplishments, (only rarely taking the opportunity to brag, and if they do it’s played off more or less as a joke) they do however have this intense need to be liked as a person and looked up to for that reason.
Childhood Wound:
Another way we can infer somebody’s enneagram would be based on their “childhood wound.” In enneagram, this would be the root of where this person’s enneagram would come from. Meaning yes, a person’s enneagram is established during their childhood years and does not change.
The childhood wound of the enneagram 3 is as follows:
(Screenshotted from a deleted user on Reddit)
Based on some information given in the QnAs on patreon, we can infer that this is true of Qiu’s childhood. But I also believe it can be inferred by public content as well.
Based on how Qiu conducts themself, I don’t think kids in Golden Grove ever really appreciated Qiu for being Qiu. People liked them because they were expending themselves for the sake of others, trying their best to include everybody and putting on this “act” of being cool about everything. They actively minimize their own needs/boundaries while being hyper aware of everyone else’s. This made them likable, which made them popular, which made them a high commodity to their classmates.
We also kind of get this in the explanation for Baxter’s crush on Qiu. Baxter could have liked Qiu genuinely, I’m not discounting that at all, after all he was one of their closest friends in childhood. However, the way he goes about rationalizing it to himself is this:
(Screenshotted from the GBPatch tumblr)
“You’re popular, so why shouldn’t I like you.” And it’s safe to assume a lot of other people felt the same way about Qiu, whether it be related to a crush or completely platonically. It was this sort of self fulfilling prophecy where Qiu tried their best to live up to the expectations of others, which made them even more desirable to people, which made them feel they had to become subservient to these expectations, which made people want them all the more. And in a way, they themselves kinda wanted that. They actively seek out that kind of attention and feel fulfilled when it’s received. But not to this extreme of a point, as we can see in Step 2.
What about Step 2?!:
That brings us to one glaring problem some may already be considering. Qiu’s personality in Step 2. It seems to have taken a complete 180 from how they were in Step 1.
In Step 2, the last thing Qiu wants is attention or to be around people at all. They could seemingly care less if they’re liked which can be observed in how they treat Tamarack’s concerns about their litter in the current Step 2 preview. They straight up disregard her feelings completely, and not politely. Qiu really just wants to hide away from it all and not be bothered. And if the enneagram is developed during childhood and then never changes, wouldn’t it be better to find something that also encompasses that side of them? Maybe they’re not a 3, or even a 2!
Weeeeeell ackshually ☝️🤓, I think enneagram 3 is still very applicable to Step 2 Qiu, but there’s not much I can say about that *definitively* at the moment.
However, we do have this description of Step 3 Qiu to work off of:
(Screenshotted from the GBPatch tumblr)
So obviously, Qiu’s presentation in Step 2 isn’t all that it seems. Qiu is actively *going against* their true nature during Step 2 for one reason or another. My best guess would have to be that they feel they previously let their identity rely too heavily on the needs of the people around them, and that notion freaks them out. So even if, in a way, their true identity DOES revolve around what they can be for others, they also want to make sure there’s a real, individual, person in there somewhere. Maybe in a twisted and fucked up way you can suggest that it is in fact because our culture heavily celebrates and looks up to that kind of individuality. Like, we as a society can consider it an admirable quality to be an outcast for the things that make us unique. That could potentially be added motivation. But thatssssssss really pushing it kind of and I’m talking out of my ass a little bit. So I’ll leave it there. 🥱
Either way, we can conclude that in Step 2 Qiu is not at all a “completely different person,” I don’t really think that’s even possible, and tbh I hope people don’t believe that about them. But I do think that they are actively *trying* to be. Which is sooooo 3, in a way (I sound like an astrology girl heheh >:3) But yeah, as a young teen, you think you know you want a lot of things. And then when you grow up, you realize that’s not what you actually wanted in the first place.
Side tangent, this is also why I loveee the idea of playing the game with jealousy/envy turned on for Qiu. I just feel like it’s so natural to their arc, but that’s just my own personal interpretation/preference.
But anyway, that’s how I came to my conclusion, Qiu is an enneagram 3w2!
Conclusion:
Let me once again reiterate that this is literally pseudoscience, so there isn’t an end all be all. You could totally think I was wrong and have your own ideas, and we could all totally be wrong and right and the same time together. I just do this stuff for fun, cause I think it’s cool and interesting and helps me better understand both my favorite characters in fiction and the viewpoints of people completely different from me ^_^
If you read this, I honestly CANNOT thank you enough, seriously. Because wow this post was crazy and long and insane and insanely crazy long. And I feel like I’m really bad and disorganized when it comes to explaining things. But I appreciate it if you did take an interest! I hope you were entertained and learned something new.
Qiu was specifically requested, and this post is long enough as it is. And that’s without all the beta and patreon stuff, which then we could be here for hours getting into the nitty gritty details. But anyway, I would love to do a separate analysis on Tamarack’s enneagram next. Though spoiler alert, her’s will be a lot moreeeee theoretical and hard to explain T~T I’m sure that would be super fun for me to attempt though HAHA. So if you’d be interested in that, let me know! And if you wouldn’t, too bad because I’ll probably do it anyway!
(PS. I tried to make sure not to give away anything directly related to content only included in the patreon. But, if I made a mistake, please let me know and I will edit it out of the post immediately!)

Enneagram 4 Subtypes Explained
Social 4 "Shame"
The social 4 looks to create connection with others through the exploration melancholy and brokenness. Unlike the other 4s this subtype looks to share their depth with others. Imo they subvert allot of the traditional notions of the E4. They aren't as withdrawn as the SX and Sp subtypes. And whole they do maintain a level of difference within they still look to fulfill that need for emotional depth with others. A tendency that pops with the So4 is the need to create that social circle while struggling to remain their own self. This subtype tend to express their difference through being an outsider or extremely sophisticated with unique tastes. Usually among to attract others while maintaining their boundary of eccentricity. They are hard to mistake as any other type in my opinion however they can look like the stereotype of a 3w4 (due to being pretentiousness) or a 9.
Characters: Anna Karenina, Mark Jefferson, Blue Diamond, Diane Nyguen, Lisa, Anne of Green Gables, Jin Kazaa and Catherine Meyer.
The Self Preservation 4 "Tenacity"
The Sp4 finds it self trying to mitigate their envy due to being a counter type. Usually this 4 is not looking to be different but rather to have a different type of life. As the counter type of 4 they dont overexposes their melancholy and rage but rather they tend to keep it to themselves. This 4 tries to find a different path in the world without following tradition or social expectations. They are a bit more idealistic with their pursuits choosing lifestyles, style or professional life. This subtype can look like a 6 (due to their calm and environment oriented thinking).
Characters: Elio Perlman, Rose DeWitt Bukater, Eleven, Belle, Sebastian, Wicked Witch, Violet Harmon and Susana Kaysen.
The Sexual 4 "Hate"
Probably the most well known 4. This subtype is the most expressive and "aggressive" about their sense of uniqueness. They are highly interested in creating a relationship with another that fulfills that bond of difference and uniqueness. They tend to be the most expressive of their envy. To the sexual 4 the most important thing is not to be mediocre. By this I mean that the 4s see everything that doesn't have emotional and personal depth is beneath them. While many texts describe them as aggressive id say they are closer to passionate. The SX4 interest and frustration find depth within interpersonal relationships leads them to look like enneagram 8s.
Characters: Kylo Ren, the phantom, Maleficent, Loki, Jason Todd, Helen Sharp, Lucille Sharpe and Zuko

How can you tell the differences of a social 4, self preservation 4, and sexual 4?
so4: cares more about others emotions. romanticizes his pain the most. expressive, often through their style or appearance. has trust issues. more outgoing. has a low self-esteem, often with a victim complex. like an e9, tries to avoid conflict. acts kind and caring as a result. still very empathetic. but when in conflict, will act passive-aggressive. also lazy like an sp9. may complain a lot. seeks sympathy from others. feels shameful. can be mistyped as an e6.
sp4: least envious. more tolerant of emotions. "hoards" objects and experiences. strong sense of justice. often loving, and cares for others. very "masochistic." feels like they have to be "tough," and wants to be loved as a result. never feels like they are enough. keeps struggles and emotions to self. may often appear as a 1. wishes they were more like others. prone to self isolation.
sx4: feels "misunderstood." the most humorous, extravagant, and histrionic of the subtypes. most focused on uniqueness of the subtypes. has emotional swings between feeling "depressed" and feeling "euphoric." affected by hardship/failure quickly. can resemble an sx2 or 8. most commonly mistaken as a 3 or 7. struggles with shame, and acts "shameless" as a result. treats feelings as if they are more important than others. competitive mindset (towards resources, relationships, and love), says what's on their mind, blunt. wants to be respected and admired, but often struggles to achieve it.

The Ultimate YANDERE TYPES List (part 4) | LOVE AND HATE + INTOXICATED + STALKER YANDERE
(this is PART 4 of a 4 Part Post. Click HERE to start at part 1)
Full sources and links to further reading will be below in the notes!
Remember to read the trigger warnings and content warnings. This is Yandere fiction we’re talking about, so it’s going to get messed up.
Themes + Trigger Warnings + Content Warnings:
Possessiveness, Obsessiveness, Unhealthy relationships, Religious themes, themes of sociopathy, themes of mental illness, hallucinations, delusions, hallucinations and delusions due to drugs, mentions of: physical abuse, sexual abuse, brainwashing, murder, suicide, murder-suicide, self-harm, stalking, panic attacks, cannibalism, necrophilia.
LOVE AND HATE TYPE
As the name suggests, the feelings of love the Yandere has towards the Darling usually has various degrees of hatred blended in. (note: if the Yandere does not have or never had any love the person they have the intense feelings for, I’ll call them the Object of Obsession rather than the Darling.)
SUBTYPES WITH THEIR VARIANTS
♡I Hate You but I Love You (State of Internal Conflict)
Yandere of this subtype are in a state of internal conflict where “their Love:Hate ratio is 5:5”.
♡I Love how Pitiful You Are
These Yandere love the Darling for being unhappy. They don’t find their Darling attractive when they are happy. The unhappier the Darling is, the more love the yandere feels for them.
♡Beautiful Memories
These Yanderes have a certain stage of their Darling that they loved. This stage is the Yandere’s “beautiful memory” of their Darling. However, the Darling undergoes changes (whether this change is emotional growth, aging, etc) and the Yandere is unable to tolerate the crumbling of the Darling’s “best state”. In the worst-case scenario the Darling could be killed to preserve that beautiful memory.
♡Obsession Born From Hatred
This is one of the rare Yandere, where they hold no love for the Object of Obsession, but obsession exists. This obsession is born from intense hatred would make the Yandere unable to tolerate others taking the target of their obsessive hatred from them. In the case where the Yandere’s ultimate aim is to kill the Object of Obsession, they will be furious if the target commits suicide or is murdered by someone else. (note: tbh I personally don’t consider this one a yandere)
♡I Once Loved You but I Am Vengeful
This Yandere once loved their Darling deeply, but after experiencing a betrayal or something similar, they develop a hatred just as intense as the love they once held.
♡Shadow of Love Found in Hatred
This Yandere does not love the Object of Obsession. The Yandere loves a parent or close ancestor of theirs (that are usually of the same sex). It is more accurate to say the Yandere is fixated on the shadow of their Darling that they see in the Object of Obsession. Hatred gets involved in cases when the Object of Obsession is a child born between the Darling and the Yandere’s love rival, or when the Object of Obsession is the Yandere's, but the Darling has died after giving birth. The resemblance in the Object of Obsession to their Darling is what agonises them.
♡Pursuit of Perfection
This Yandere is unable to love the Darling because of one thing about them, but everything else about them is perfect so the Yandere is unable to hate them. This Yandere is fixated on fixing the bad thing about the Darling.
INTOXICATED TYPE
These Yandere simply have their heads in the clouds while in love. However, because they don’t have a clear purpose like the Possessive type, something seems a bit more obviously off in them compared to others.
SUBTYPES WITH THEIR VARIANTS
♡Self-Sacrificing (Doesn’t Wish to Shackle)
Actionist: Yandere of this variant continuously does acts of self-sacrifice much like an attendant to the Darling, only wishing to devote themselves to the person they love. How aggressive they are to others depends on their personality, but more often than not protecting the Darling is included in their acts of devotion and will kill if necessary.
“Gon the Fox”: Yandere of this type perform acts of devotion much like the Self-Sacrificing Actionist above, but secretly, behind the scenes.
♡Rabid Fan
This Yandere is imagined to be simple-minded and love the Darling so much they’ll do anything. However, they do not see the Darling as a god. They are a “fan” and don’t feel guilty for loving the Darling.
♡Deification and Austerity
While this variant is similar to the Faults Viewed Favourably (Intoxicated) variant of the Delusional type, where they worship their Darling as a god and agree with everything they do or say. However, they see their Dalring as a love interest and not just someone to worship as a god. They tend to punish themselves for falling in love with their “god” and continue to be internally conflicted by their overflowing love for the love interest and self-loathing.
♡Fantasizing
“Princess” Love Interest: They believe the Darling is their fated princess and have a fantasy-prone mind. They completely believe that true love will prevail above all obstacles and that love will never waver.
Self-Proclaimed Prince: This Yandere views themselves as a Prince who waits to confirm the Darling’s love rather than acting out their idea of true love like the “Princess” Love Interest variant does. This Yandere assumes that the Darling reciprocates their feelings, so they become furious if the Darling does anything out of their expectations.
♡Masochist
The Yandere in this case is so intoxicated in love that any aggressiveness from the Darling is met with joy. That is how Masochist is defined here. They do not simply seek pain, but they seek to feel the love from the pain inflicted upon them by the Darling.
♡Love is Blind
Nervous: Yandere of this variant are unable to display their skills as normal when the Darling is around due to either extreme nervousness or excitedness. They are able to display their skills as normal around others, so it is love that throws them into disarray.
Forthright: It is only when around the Darling that this Yandere throws away any sense of embarrassment or self-consciousness. They don’t care about what others think of them so don’t hesitate in doing anything at all. These Yandere are often positioned as comedic relief character.
♡Mixing in Body Fluids
If the Yandere wants the love interest to take in their bodily fluid as an act of offering instead of a sexual fetish, then they fall under this subtype.
♡Directly Linked to Life and Death
The love interest’s existence the yandere’s meaning of life. The yandere is completely dependent on the Darling and if they disappear, the Yandere will choose death.
♡Fetishism
This Yandere devotes their love not to the Darling but to certain parts of them such as their legs or hair. They technically do not love the love interest, so it’s not clear if they can be considered a yandere.
S T A L K E R
Simply described as “the almighty yandere that’s a bit of everything”.

Enneatype 5 summarised!!
Core type- Passion: avarice. E5s are cautious and value anonymity with what they share in order to maintain the peace and calmness they worked hard to achieve. They need this space to consume information about the world without having to participate in it. Fixation: stinginess. They have a huge thirst for knowledge, usually this will accompany knowledge on how to strategically control their environment. Trap: observer. The e5s fascination with the world comes from a place of anxiety. They want to know everything about life while refusing to really live it. Defence mechanism: isolation. To avoid emptiness and keep their self image of being knowledgeable, they isolate themselves from any painful or intense emotions. Instead they want to focus on their knowledge in hope to completely remove these thoughts. Virtue: detachment. To relieve themselves from their isolation, they will need to detach from their hiding place, experience the world and let go of the anonymity they so crave. Key traits: The centrality of thinking, emotional detachment and feelinglessness, fear of engulfment, autonomy and self-sufficiency, hypersensitivity.
Subtypes- Self preservation [sp]: Sp5s build clear walls around themselves to protect their safe space. They have a strong need for things like boundaries and dislike surprises and intrusions. Once they feel as though these boundaries are crossed, they rely on their safe space to retreat to. They generally strongly value control. Sexual [sx]: Sx5s are often more artistic than the other subtypes. They want to find the perfect partner they can share every part of themselves with. Even the parts they’ve suppressed for a long time. Because of this, they are often disappointed in the people they trusted in to be like this perfect person for them. Social [so]: So5s have this same desire to be able to share their ideas and thoughts with others, but this is much more group focused for them. They want to find people who they share interests with and bring them together. They are more obvious in their search for knowledge, but focus less on truly shutting themselves off.
Contradictions- ESFJ, ENFJ, ESFP, ENFP, ENTP, ESTP, ESTJ, ENTJ, ISFP, INFP, ISFJ The main contradiction in e5 is extroversion. E5 is a very reclusive type, they tend to observe instead of participate and try. This contradicts with the inherent external involvement of any cognitively extroverted type. The second is partially the feeling dichotomy, this is due to their emotional isolation. The sensation dichotomy is also considered to be debatable due to e5s abstract thought process. Types you might want to look into if you are on this list are e3, e4, e6, e7 and e9.
Compatible types- Self preservation: ISTP, INTP, ISTJ, INTJ Sexual: INFJ, INTP, INTJ Social: INTP, INTJ

Fruits Basket Personality Types Part 19: Saki Hanajima
Saki is such a fun character. The way she always wins card games with a dramatic card flourish is one of my favorite running gags in the series.
I've spent a lot of time with Saki while writing Bloom Within Us, and I think my view on her Enneagram might be one of my more surprising takes! Anyway, here's how I see her personality type!
Saki Hanajima's Enneagram
Wound: Saki was born with strange powers that always overwhelmed her when she went out in public. She was viciously bullied due to these powers, and blamed herself when a boy collapsed after she told him to die.
Wounding message: The world isn't made for weirdos like you. It's not okay to stand up for yourself.
Core desire: To belong, not to hurt anyone again, not to cause problems for her family.
Core fear: That she'll hurt someone again.
Defense mechanism: Saki withdraws almost completely, burying her emotions as much as she can so she won't accidentally hurt anyone else.
Strengths: Saki has a strong aesthetic sense, she's loyal, protective, funny, weird, and comfortable being her strange self.
Challenges: Saki doesn't show her true feelings to anyone except those closest to her, she's lazy, gluttonous, and stubborn.
When healthy: Saki is more comfortable with herself, she believes she deserves friends and her kind family, she's a loyal and caring friend, she's funny for her own sake, and she lets herself have fun.
When unhealthy: Saki is completely withdrawn, plagued by feelings of worthlessness, terrified of hurting anyone, and pushes people away.
Looking at all of this, here's what connects when I go back to the Enneagram post:
Wound: 6 or 8
Wounding message: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 9
Core desire: strongly 9
Core fear: 1 or 9
Defense mechanism: 5 and 9
Strengths: 4, 5, 6, or 8
Challenges: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9
When healthy: 2, 3, 5, 6, or 9
When unhealthy: 3, 8, or 9
Saki is an Enneagram 9.
Saki is such an interesting 9 because we see her both in a fairly healthy place (most of the series' current timeline), and a very unhealthy place (her backstory). It's such a striking contrast to see what she's like in each state, and it's such a joy to see who she can be when she's not so terrified of hurting or burdening others.
Nines live in the Gut center, and tend to underexpress Anger.
Wing
The Enneagram Institute calls 9w8s "The Referee" and 9w1s "The Dreamer."
I see Saki as a 9w8, because she's fairly comfortable with conflict as long as she's not afraid of losing control of her powers.
EnneaApp describes 9w8s like this:
Seek peace/conflict resolution through a strong, cooperative approach
Can explode with impulsive anger when self or others are threatened
Can be stubborn and defensive; can flip from placidity to aggression
Has a lusty side (sensually/materially); seeks comfort/habitual routines
More extroverted and sociable than 9w1; has a higher charge than 9w1
While I don't think this is a perfect description of Saki, I do think the second, third, and fourth bullet points are great descriptions of her. I also think she has a higher charge than the 9w1s we've seen so far (Tohru, Kisa, and Kureno).
Subtype
I see Saki as a SP 9w8.
EnneaApp describes SP Nines like this:
Attention fixated on secondary sources of gratification; denies emotional needs
Needs replaced with substitutes: food/TV/shopping/hobbies/substance addictions
Preoccupied with physical comfort, maintaining habits, and satisfying appetites
Anesthetize/narcotize the self - love to numb out/relax on one's drug of choice
Store up a supply of "love substitute;" the stash is a source of comfort/security
Appetite for the substitute is strongest when distracting from self-improvement
The rising interest in indulgence doesn't feel lazy, it feels exhilarating; insatiable
Gets along by asking as little of life as possible; seeks needs patiently & covertly
May have a love of the minimal and enjoy the repetition of known routines/rituals
May be physically slow moving; inclined to inertia: "built for comfort, not speed"
Like to collect objects/information; has trouble discarding and making decisions
Wants to be seen as kind/loving peacemaker, but underneath can be "hard as nails"
Strong connection to Six; may focus on fear/doubt of needs ever being truly met
I think this description connects to Saki's apparent lust/gluttony - the way she's always eating, loves aesthetically pleasing clothes, etc...
Tritype
I think Saki's Heart type must be 4, but her Head type is a little less obvious. She has elements of all three Head types (5, 6, and 7), being withdrawn and perceptive like a 5, safety-oriented like a 6, and an appreciation of material comforts like a 7. Ultimately, I think 7 describes her internal state more accurately than 5 or 6. This makes her tritype 4-7-9, "The Gentle Spirit." Here's the description from Katherine Fauvre's website:
If you are a 479, you are intuitive, innovative, and accepting. You want to be original, positive, and peaceful. Others see you as very receptive and ethereal. You are identified with the defense of optimism and possibilities. Secretly, you are shy and long-suffering and tend to hide your painful feelings and pessimism for fear of being rejected. You focus on what is new and giving meaning to your suffering. Others see you as gentle, tenderhearted, and lyrical. You are attracted to healing arts.
Saki Hanajima's MBTI
Here's how I see Saki's Type Dynamics:
Feeling: I think her Dominant process is Introverted Feeling. According to The Myers & Briggs Foundation, when Fi is exaggerated, someone might "carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, hypersensitive, pompous, feel sorry for themselves"
Sensing: Saki likes experiencing the world in a tactile, concrete way. I see her as using Extroverted Sensing.
iNtuiting: The Myers & Briggs Foundation website doesn't describe how the Tertiary process can look distinct from the Dominant or Inferior processes, but here's what Ni can look like at its best: "Can appear visionary. Connects unconscious images, themes, and connections to see things in new ways. Brainstorm internally with themselves. Trusts and relies on inner insights, which may be hard for others to understand."
Thinking: I think this is shown in Saki's tendency to be rather literal and think in black and white terms.
This makes her Type Dynamics Fi Se Ni Te, and her MBTI Type ISFP, "The Composer."
Here's how Truity describes ISFP:
ISFPs are gentle caretakers who live in the present moment and enjoy their surroundings with cheerful, low-key enthusiasm. They are flexible and spontaneous, and like to go with the flow to enjoy what life has to offer. ISFPs are quiet and unassuming, and may be hard to get to know. However, to those who know them well, the ISFP is warm and friendly, eager to share in life's many experiences. ISFPs have a strong aesthetic sense and seek out beauty in their surroundings. They are attuned to sensory experience, and often have a natural talent for the arts. ISFPs especially excel at manipulating objects, and may wield creative tools like paintbrushes and sculptor's knives with great mastery.
So, to summarize:
Enneagram: SP 9w8 (The Peacemaker/The Referee)
Tritype: 4-7-9 (The Gentle Spirit)
MBTI: ISFP (The Composer)
What do you think? Did I get it right or wrong? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Enneagram Self-preservation (SP) Instinct
Keys words: Survival, comfort, stability, home, independence, practical foundation, resources, hoarding, well-being, domesticity, structure, sustainability, shelter, work, finances, safety, environment, self-care, balance
Summary of SP instinct:
The first instinct to have evolved. This is an orientation towards survival, health, and comfort. SP drive checks in with the body: “Is this not enough or too much?” and orients by what the body reports on its needs. Of the three instincts, this is the oldest one; it dictates: “I must survive.”
primary concerns:
physical safety, comfort, and well-being; securing an orderly and aesthetically pleasing way of life (food, clothing, money, housing, and physical health)
primary focus:
security, comfort, and well-being of the environment (lighting, temperature, comfortable furniture, aesthetics, food quality)
primary ambition:
using practicality and financial sense to create a secure environment in the home and workplace (paying bills, acquiring skills to ensure the orderly flow of life)
primary stresses:
money, sustenance (how they will get food, when it will come, if they will like it, if it fits their diet), scarcity of resources
coping methods (unhealthy/distorted):
over-stocking, overbuying, overeating, under-eating, over-purging, oversleeping, under-sleeping, overindulging in aesthetics or comfort foods, not exercising or over-exercising, constant concern about lack of resources and survival, lethargy and fear of stepping out of comfort zones, never feeling secure or struggling to relax
Topics SP types might bring up in conversation:
food, dining out, dieting, nutrition, health, fitness, appearance and looks, money, savings and sales, shopping, quality or durability of objects, clothing, design, home decoration, employment, benefits, insurance, comfort, strength, vitality, sickness, death, discomfort, noise, safety, security, environment, resource management, physical sciences, engineering, architecture.
Example thoughts SP subtypes might have:
Physical Well-Being:
Is this food healthy? Why do I feel so tired today? When can I get back to the gym so I can feel more energetic? Could I climb to the top of this mountain? Could I survive in the forest for one month?
Self-Regulation and Skills:
Can I take this apart/fix it? How does this work? What work needs to be done to get what I want? How can I autonomously create my own life? Did we do the laundry? Are my affairs in order? Will I be able to settle in a new place? How do I make this more convenient?
Foundations and Resources:
Is owning property better than renting? How much money do I have this month? Where’s the closest grocery store? Why am I stuck here when I really want to travel and see the rest of the world? Why isn’t there enough nature in this city? Do I have any savings?

Paper cranes - The hotel room night
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/wORFul6 by NohaIjiachi Martin felt hypnotized, his own hands frozen on Jon’s elbow, his thin waist. He couldn’t stop looking at the expression of deep focus on Jon’s face as his hands roamed on Martin’s body; it was intoxicating, having the full attention of such an intense, fierce being pointed at one self. It made Martin feel like he’d somehow managed to tame a dragon— But no, tame wasn’t the right word. Tame implied a certain amount of domestication and submission— No, Jon wasn’t tamed. He was a beautiful wild beast; he was a hurricane, he was the ocean in the middle of a storm. You cannot tame a force of nature, you can merely hope and pray it will pass you by and leave you unscathed by a stroke of mercy. Martin didn’t tame a dragon. He’d walked up to it with no self-preservation instincts whatsoever and threw stuff at it until the dragon had somehow grown fond of him. Mind Flayer, Elder Brain
Image © Wizards of the Coast, by Daarken. Accessed at Art of MtG here
[In writing up the mind flayers, my goal has been to make a version of the elder brain that I actually like and would use. The obstacles are numerous. As I've previously said, I do not like the 2e innovations that made both beholders and mind flayers eusocial species, because it strips them of their main attributes (independence and xenophobia for beholders, extreme intelligence for mind flayers) and makes them into pawns, slaves and dupes. The elder brain specifically was said to be lying to all other illithids about how their personalities would remain intact inside of them forever. Mind flayers are geniuses; not one of them ever saw through this? It definitely plays into the 2e directive that evil should be self-sabotaging, but it just makes one of the coolest monsters in D&D seem like rubes.
The second problem was more mechanical. In D&D 3.5, a mind flayer was a (weak) CR 8, but an elder brain was a CR 25! That meant that only epic level characters could encounter an elder brain and hope to survive, but at that level, the mind flayers would be utterly useless, unless the DM gave them a bunch of class levels, which is even more work. 5e keeps the power differential between them much saner, which I have striven to maintain here.
The third problem is probably my most nitpicky, but I've never much liked the look of the elder brain as just a brain with tentacles. The recent art for Magic the Gathering gives them a more alien appearance which I much prefer.
See my post on mind flayers in general for more information about the mind flayer subtype]
Mind Flayer, Elder Brain CR 15 LE Aberration This creature resembles a distorted humanoid brain, leathery and swollen to the size of a rhinoceros. Tentacles grow from underside like an unraveled brain stem. Despite a seeming lack of sensory organs, it seems perfectly aware of its surroundings.
An elder brain is the hub of a mind flayer colony, as they are both its most typically powerful member and the source of its future. The elder brain is the reproductive female equivalent of the mind flayers, and they birth the tadpoles that will be the next generation. They are incredibly knowledgeable, and illithids and ulitharids consult them for their plans and assist with the elder brain’s schemes in return. An elder brain can access the memories of any brain it has consumed. Most illithids consider it a civic duty to have their brains fed to the elder brain when they die in order to preserve their knowledge and experiences.
Few elder brains move much, as their bodies are bulky and slow on land. They can fly magically, but find this tiring, preferring instead to stick to water. Mind flayer colonies are built around brood pools, which act as a comfortable habitat for the elder brain and the various illithid tadpoles alike. Illithid tadpoles receive relatively little care or consideration until they are implanted into a host body, but are fed various secretions that ooze from the elder brain’s glands. An elder brain on the move is much more likely to be an astral body than the actual creature. Some elder brains regularly explore the planes and other planets in astral form, often with a few privileged mind flayers as students.
Elder brains are horrifically powerful combatants, combining the magical gifts of other mind flayers with great size and strength. Each elder brain is a talented spellcaster, having learned magic as part of their extended adolescence as ulitharids. They can also dominate any kind of creature, and few elder brains are ever encountered without a few monstrous bodyguards to absorb damage. Elder brains typically fight from the safety of their brood pools, dragging enemies into the depths to have their brain extracted after having neutralized resistance through mind blasts and spells.
An elder brain is about 10 feet in diameter, with tentacles that can reach another 15 feet beyond that.

A mind blank spell prevents this detection, and the elder brain must make a caster level check with its SLA caster level to detect creatures under the effects of a nondetection spell. Eldritch Knowledge (Ex) All Knowledge skills are class skills for an elder brain, and it can make Knowledge checks untrained. It gains a bonus to all Knowledge checks equal to ½ its Hit Dice. Flight (Su) The fly speed of an elder brain is a supernatural ability. Mind Blast (Su) As a standard action, an elder brain can create a 60 foot cone of mental energy. All creatures in the area must succeed a DC 26 Will save or be stunned for 3d4 rounds. A creature that is stunned may attempt to recover from this condition as a full-round action with an additional DC 28 Will save. A creature that fails its save is considered to be feebleminded, as per the spell, for 1 minute after recovering from the stunning effect. After 1 minute, the creature can attempt a second DC 28 Will save in order to avoid being permanently feebleminded. Mind flayers are immune to the effects of a mind blast. An elder brain can use a mind blast at will, but must wait 1d4 rounds between uses. This is a mind-influencing effect, and the save DC is Charisma based with a -2 racial penalty. Psychic Potency (Ex) An elder brain gains Psychic Sensitivity as a bonus feat. If it can use psychic magic, it instead gains Psychic Virtuoso as a bonus feat. Spells An elder brain gains spells as a 14th level sorcerer, oracle or psychic. It does not gain any other class abilities for that class, such as a bloodline or mystery, unless it takes levels in that class. Tentacles (Ex) An elder brain’s tentacles are treated as primary natural weapons.
