I like sex and romance but only in fiction so I react with absolute disgust at self insert stuff. I know it won't disappear but I just... Really dislike the shift in fandom these last years. We aren't just fans of characters, obviously if you love one you want to have sex with them. Tag of them is filled with horny post.
Yeah sex was present before! But it was mostly around bl ship. It still exist to this day but there's much more self insert than before
And yeah don't be sex negative, don't shame women... But you always have the one to make an effort. It's never tagged. everyone is assumed to be into this.
A character can't be appreciated without loading him with romance and sex. Even canon aroace characters suddenly get hit by the "it's just fiction" argument because they can't do anything with a character than ship stuff
And today I realized.... it'll never change. Because to them all, we don't exist, and when we do express of we feel we are party popper, we shame them, we act superior.
I am basically venting. But I am tired to try to take less space and sugarcoat all I say about this subject so I'm not accused of things I do not say.
We will never be affected. So what's the point of being endlessly nice when we are still compared to plants and robots?
...Yeah, pop off. It gets exhausting, feels like nobody realizes how much it does but it does, so it's only fair to be fed up sometimes.
It's definitely the fact that no one ever seems to make an effort to think of us that gets me. And beyond that, no one ever seems to make an effort to respect us if we dare to voice anything. We're always the ones expected to either adapt, shut up, or idk, "change our minds" or something, like it's all that simple. It's very unbalanced and it gets exhausting.

Hi anon, whoever you are. Thank you for reaching out to me and asking about the thing I've avoided for so long.
The thing is — I don't erase Kim's life out of Jimmy's. She is in my universe, yes. And she's also Abby's friend. I hope you're not accusing me of anything because you probably don't know the full story of Sunflawyer.
In my universe, Kim is dating my friend's OC, Missy. If you look at my ArtFight you can see a bit of Kim and Abby's interaction — Kim is Abby's supervisor in HHM. Missy is a paralegal working at HHM who had a big crush on Kim and eventually they started dating.
Tumblr media
↑ this is Kim and Missy btw.
My friend (Mimi)'s universe also doesn't include Jimmy as Kim's canon partner - because in her universe, they're just friends. We're just two best friends dating another best friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I only wrote specifically about Jimmy and Abby in Abby's doc because its about them - not about anyone else. But Abby and I don't hate Kim, of course!! We love her and we adore her.
Yes, I did have a bad ccxcc interaction which made me traumatized, but I'm slowly letting it go, step by step, little by little.
Thank you for asking this, anon. And thank you for helping me clear things out.
I'll edit my doc sometime soon.

thoughts on: Y/N character with a set appearance
soooo let's start this blog off with an opinion of mine: if your audience self-insert or y/n character has a set appearance, DON'T CALL IT Y/N!!!
in my eyes, the point of a y/n type character in an illustration is to be able to insert yourself into the image with your fave character or the scenario or whatever. it defeats the purpose to me if ppl then proceed to make a specific character with a specific appearance and then tag it as y/n or "x reader."
ESPECIALLY as a poc who does NOT look like what half of these writers/illustrators make (i am not white-skinned, i do not have straight or wavy hair, and i am not skinny)
having multiple set appearances (like skin tone/hair alts) is a bit better but honestly i much prefer when things are kept as vague as possible. which granted, i know in writing can be really hard to do, but in illustrations?? it's not that hard to make a gray anonymous character with y/n somewhere on their body or even just a gray anon.
"so daisy are u saying the art is bad???" no, if anything a lot of these ppl are very skilled! and i won't call out anyone specifically. just know it's a bit of a trend that i personally dislike if only because it makes things feel very exclusive. and i believe that y/n type artwork/fanfic should be open to everyone if not just a majority of people!
and i get that a lot of ppl do look like these stand-in characters (white-skinned, brown or black hair, etc.) but i still think it's better to just...not tag it as y/n. bc not everyone looks that way.
tl;dr if you make a y/n character have an appearance i don't personally think that should be considered y/n content. writing or illustration.
anyone disagree? agree? let me know your thoughts!

i’m new to the fandom and i saw you talk about how the fandom kinda views rob but what about charlie and glenn? what is the general consensus there?
Charlie is definitely the "fan favourite" of the three of them, which is acknowledged by RCG as well (as in, they very much are aware Charlie is way more liked than the two of them are) and it's definitely true. Some combo of Charlie Kelly being the fan-favourite character, Charlie Day's generally cheery demeanor, his insanely broad talent in every aspect of creativity, his support of fan content and shipping (see: Pacific Rim and Macdennis), and every interview he's ever done exemplifying all of that, kinda leads him to being more overwhelmingly liked than Rob or Glenn (plus, all of his social media content is either promo or him being a wholesome husband/dad).
Glenn is more complex, because his moodiness and some of his insane and incessant personal opinions (on food and health, especially) put him in a weird spot with a lot of fans...a huge chunk see him as off-putting or too similar to Dennis that he's scary. BUT that's not really representative of a chunk of the fandom, because that moodiness and his hang ups are kinda seen as the weird girl™ patheticism we see in Dennis that ends up making Glenn...obsessively likeable? Lmao. (And how do I politely work in the fact that he's the most obviously queer one of the three of them...) So the general consensus of Glenn is kinda hard to summarise... he's like manic pixie dream girl for Tumblrinas and a weird out-of-touch white guy to other fans... BUT I will say it seems like the public opinion of Glenn has shifted quite a bit since the start of Four Walls (and the end of the Podcast) in his favour. Who knew handing out free alcohol and getting drunk with fans instead of yapping about how vegetables are slowly killing you could make you more likeable ? (lmao)
I think I have it right generally but anyone can feel free to add on to this or send another ask if they think I'm far off-base, cos again my perspective is definitely affected by my interactions with them.

I don't know if anyone else has felt this way to this extent, but Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Tolkien, and even Bofur in general, have definitely changed my life and only made things better. I love my other hyperfixations too, but this one is hugely different and stands out from the rest. I may moan about the 'half of the fandom' that may not like my OC, or the hundreds of Bofur/Leanna content I have posted since 2019... but the greatness that came from it outshines the haters.
Not only have my mom and I bonded stronger with my love for all things Tolkien, but because I shared with her my embarrassing love for Bofur, we have made a story, which inspired her to finally make an OC - which then inspired my dad to make an OC - and he doesn't even go on the internet! Not to mention she prefers strictly staying with the lore, so adding Leanna, Estilil, Sven and my beorn dad, was surprising!
I have drawn them so many times i have gotten comfortable with drawing unique face structures and natural wrinkles, hands, poses, expressions, because i want to match the love that emits from the films.
I have met some wonderful friends and followers that have definitely enabled and pushed the love even further and motivated me to keep posting. I didn't get as much hate as I first expected to ship an oc as hard as I do with a canon character. Granted I did get some anon hate through the years that hurt, but what can you do. The inspiration I give fellow OC creators gives me a nice boost!!
Anyways, like I said, I know I bitch about the hater side of the fandom, but nobody wants to be hated for doing something they love. In the end, it was all a positive experience. I hope some of you have felt something similar too.

Best thing about having Hobie as a comfort character -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's SUPER OPENLY SUPPORTIVE
Like he's so loving you never have to worry about your brain doing that thing where it makes you think the characters you care about would hate you
or when you hear those characters say you're gross, bad, dumb etc.
Hobie is so supportive and ANTI-hate it's just not possible it's so unrealistic
whenever your brain is like 'Hobie would think you're disgusting' You can literally be like 'Nice try but He would not say that'
That's why characters like him matter

There's nothing more self-inserting in this fandom than the people who actually hate Rhaegar Targaryen (and sometimes by extension Lyanna and Daenerys and other Targaryens).
But with Rhaegar it's very peculiar. With either Rhaegar positive or neutral fans, you can discuss things like connections he has with characters in actual canon, by actually canon references, that give him some depth whatsoever in turn. Love RxL shippers with all the actually newer clues highlighted compared to your typical "Jon's parentage" checklists because it gives more character interiority. Love the Jon and Dany fans who've given more attention to the connections clearly drawn on purpose by the author that are also doing that.
But people who outright hate this tertiary character? The emotionally driven rants as if this man was their own boyfriend or father and wronged them specifically and that's all the focus of it? Only ever writing in "depth" about him in scenarios that are clearly made up and can only be explained as projection from some baggage none of us trying to read some book are interested in? Very odd behaviour.

unpopular opinion: don’t give writers shit for not stating “x fem reader”, instead look up specific tags for what you want e.g. x gender neutral reader or x male reader

STOPPPP. HERE HE ISNT TOUYA. HE ISNT DABI. HE ISNT ANYONE WHO HAS SUFFERED. IN MY ARMS HE IS SAFE!!! IN MY ARMS, LAYING ON MY CHEST, MY LIPS AGAINST HIS FOREHEAD??? HE’S JUST MINE. AND THAT MEANS HE’S BELOVED AND PROTECTED AND SAFE ABOVE ALL ELSE. HE IS FREE TO LEAVE AND LOVE AS HE WISHES. HE IS FREE TO BE HIMSELF. THIS IS A SPACE OF NO PAIN. HE IS NO VERSION OF HIMSELF IN PAIN UNLESS THEY ARE HEALING
dabi always has an undercurrent sweeping through his body of pain. he is parts of a once whole body messily stitched back together with no anesthesia or aftercare. he can’t feel if you run your fingers over the bumpy skin of his scars, but he can feel the fire still licking and tearing through his skin and into his veins, just as intense as the day he died but didn’t stay dead.
recently though, he’s found the pain is easier to ignore, at least when he was with you. when you smile at him, or gently trace your lips against the rough edge of burn across his chest, all the while mouthing soothing words, the pain is put on low, barely a simmer against the surface.
down the road, he’ll look at you one day and realize that while yes, he was in pain, most of it was from the rage that filled his heart. the rage that tore him apart at his seams and seeped out until all he could see was blue flames. he’ll realize that you were the reason the rage in his heart gradually started to have less and less room as his love for you took over. maybe this is what they meant when they talk about healing.
