But George seems��hateful. Not that he’s rude, but he sometimes speaks of queerness and how it's the work of the Devil, and it makes Matty think over himself and wonder if letting him live with him was a bad choice.

He's sort of confused at how George could've held it, walked with it, and not been attacked, but he doesn't ask, in fact, the thought almost melts out of his ears the second he sees George, because he’s, all of a sudden, beautiful. He looks like he could be in one of those tacky magazines he sees in the corner shops, except real, and better.

“I’ll put it in my pocket,” George tells him, and Matty frowns, grimaces.

Things I Noticed While Writing Light The Fuse: Part 2, Episode 1

And here's more of episode 1 starting off strong with my favourite scene ever /)w(\ I noticed so much stuff crammed into here that I had to make this its own part, I wanna join them on the river so damn bad ;w;

I've seen this damn scene so many times they've created a pavlovian response within me, now whenever I watch it or think about it I gotta doubeltap whatever I'm nearest to, once for Betty and once for Uncle Lug

Johnson saying they're more than Brawlers and he means it! He also motions towards the jacket on time to the music and I must also do the same now, I'm a sucker for timing and this is so simple but cute 🥰 also love how they're just saying this assuming we're Ethan in this moment following them to get his tattoo

This is the old caution room a lot of stuff happens in, you can see it better in the promo image, as well as the fact that some Pinups are hanging out in there too

Matty reading the paper while it gets sewn 😭 I actually thought they went into town for this but nope it's all Agnes and she's doing it in house. I also had no idea what Johnson was doing at first, maybe just being silly, but on the transition you can actually see that he's adjusting his sleeves cause he's about to fix Ethan's collar I'm sobbing again

See 😭 I'm also very convinced they dressed him in canon since Ethan did not dress like this before coming down here and you can't convince me otherwise, they went on a shopping trip just like in my fic and that's the truth. Also I swear to god they share shirts cause sometimes it really looks like they've switched and that makes me insane. I also went ahead and counted how many shirts Ethan wears over the season so I knew how many they'd buy him in my fic lol turns out he's got a bunch!

I love how this entire scene is Ethan doing all the work while Matty and Johnson shop, I love them so much like the matching HATS DUDE IN THEIR COLOURS and Matty trying to get Johnson back on track and then stopping to look at something else on the way out I would die for them. I also love the detail of every bag going out being red and everyone coming in being yellow, they probably switch between those two every weeks.

There's so much I love about this shot. Ethan just collapsing. Johnson drinking away in the background. Johnson still being the one to urgently wake him up after a sleep so deep he didn't even move. The fact that they either visit this place multiple times or this was a very long night before Matty gave up the bed and let Ethan rest because it appears again when they're watching tv. The fact that there is only ONE BED in this room and you can see that when they leave and in the bts with Matty. Also the bonus second take making it in lmao he bounced so hard in that one

Again, he could either be talking to us, and so the wink is for us, or he just straight up looked like that to Ethan. I don't know about you guys but... 🙄

They didn't have to do this 😭 I'm so in love with Ethan being so sleepy that he falls asleep on Johnson, and Matty just stealing the whole entire bed for himself (which again there is only one of!) and funnily enough since Johnson's wearing the same shirt as the other scene (obviously because they filmed all this at once but I'm thinking in world hehe) Ethan took his shirt off before bed and put it back on again lmao I'm also completely ignoring how normal I am about this rare glimpse of Johnson chest 😀

Johnson likes to sing! Matty clapping away for him all proud and cheering him on!! Ethan smiling in the background until he joins in!!! These boys make me cry I swear to go- Anyway he's gotta be good, I need to go back in time and get into this scene

This made me laugh when I first saw it, just Matty being so expressive and energetic that he straight up stops driving and Ethan has to take over with such an unimpressed look lmao I doubt he's even listening

Based on his sleeve being rolled up, that's Matty telling him to come on and I think that's so cute ;w; Ethan is so spaced out, nice of them to let him have a sit before it was time to go. In my fic I wrote them as carrying around their own duffle bags with their clothes but it actually looks like Johnson's holding a suitcase, so Matty might be too. I like them having just an excess of duffles though lol I can't see Matty taking the time to pack a suitcase every morning it would be so messy

Literally the three hottest men on the planet and I love them all, I'm so incredibly happy I got into this show

Taylor played question…? tonight (the song that everyone has been theorizing for weeks is about Matty) and before she started she said that she’s the happiest she’s ever been in her life, it’s not just the tour, that everything in her life feels like it makes sense right now, and that the song brings back good memories 🥺🥺🥺 Of course that’s still just a theory but after that speech, I have a feeling she sees more online than people think.

Oh I definitely think she lurks silently online hahahah. But I’m happy she’s happy. She deserves to feel this way after all the things that she’s been through, bless her. And it just makes all the history that she has with Matty worth it and meaningful and I’m so so happy for them both.

thoughts on ilw ch 21 (spoilers below)

first, a deep dive on matthias x mc:

Matthias McQuoid: a man ready to let the world burn if it meant he’d get his greatest wish... which poses a very important question: 

Is it possible for Matthias to have a happy ending? 

Ch 21 gives us readers the classic villain’s monologue- a peek into grandpa Matty’s twisted mind. A part of me was waiting for the ball to drop- to make Lincoln proud and finally be able to say Matthias is an evil bastard. Period. No discussion needed. But then he comes at me with ‘I wanted to spend an eternity with my family by my side’ and I can’t help feeling the slightest pang of sympathy. Grandpa Matty, complex till the bitter end 😭 

How could someone determined to do absolutely anything for his loved ones be so bad? While Matthias can claim he’d move heaven and earth for his loved ones (and he damn well near does), it’s not received with open arms. Instead, it drives them further away until he’s left with a dead wife and a son who wants nothing to do with him. I fear that an MC romancing Matthias faces a similar, tragic fate. 

They say, "a villain would sacrifice the world to save you*"

*but in the case of grand-daddy Matty, only until you no longer serve him. he’ll sacrifice the world, but never himself

MC x Matthias’ plan to make Devon/Noah the new anchor is only a temporary fix. Eventually that anchor will weaken. Yes, you could argue that he’d just wash, rinse, and repeat the same steps he did with Devon/Noah for the rest of time without batting an eye:

Manipulate the world to his will

Bask in his riches

Spend another millennia with MC at his side #dearcreature 

Who knows? Maybe that’s how their arc will end come ch 23. Bring me the epilogue scene of Mathias and MC sipping cocktails poolside. Let the villain have his cake and eat it too, right? 

This particular scene makes me think otherwise:

Matthias’ cruel nature is no secret to MC, regardless of their relationship status with him. Romancing him, however, allows MC to justify it. But that doesn’t stop that bit of doubt from creeping up. What happens when they're no longer enough? Deep down, they already know the answer. But as of right now, Matthias loves them. Wants them. Ironically, they voice out this hidden fear to Adrian: 

“It’ll never be enough. No matter how much you get, you’ll always want more.”

Stripped down to his most basic parts- Matthias is a selfish, self-serving man. One who takes, but never gives. He commands, but will never follow. It’s not an if, it’s a when; after enough temporary fixes, Matthias will want a permanent solution on his quest towards unlimited power/immortality and no amount of ‘love’ will stop him.

If we’re defining a happy ending as getting everything you want, then yes, it is possible for Matthias to have one. In fact, it is guaranteed. MC’s happily-ever-after with him, however, will always come with strings.

man, what. a. ride. the whiplash from going between these incredibly wholesome moments to these gut-wrenching death sequences is way too jarring. *continues to see what other atrocities i can unlock*

we finally get to see lincoln’s item in action- and as speculated- we can time-travel bitches🔥 how many ways can our scooby gang die in the next two chapters??? the answer will probably traumatize me. 

as someone who was blindsided by jocelyn’s betrayal, her flashback scene was amazing to read. the call outside the school, why she wasn’t immediately at MCs side after the cave collapsed- it was all right there 😭

adios to gunnor- im gonna miss his feisty ass lol. ilw has made me a connor stan, so that connor x mc reunion was *chef’s kiss* perfection

Hallie: candles, prayer, drowning. thematically drawing lines to naivete, the terror-awe of being caught up in something much bigger than yourself, loss of control, and relentlessly, desperately trying despite a looming inevitability.

Molly: butterflies, bruises, tensed hands. for her it's metamorphosis, the unhealing stasis; a refusal to let go or move forward and being dragged through violent change repeatedly anyway. things that are small and pointless and sometimes horrible and still, always, worth it.

Kharish: small flowers, weight. (...and I've split her lip twice now which I guess technically means we are teetering on the edge of associated imagery territory sorry beloved!!!) gestures to her series title. Heavier Things Remain - the worst is yet to come - everything going back to beauty in unexpected places, undiluted optimism, and just Doing The Thing That Needs Doing. there's an other side to come out on, even from the worst of it!

🖌️: What is their go-to hobby? When did they start learning it? Why do they like it?

Hallie is not an especially accomplished artist, but she's not bad either; she likes the tactility and messiness of using pastels. she picked it up fairly young - Vakka-Ei is a painter, and sometimes uses pastels for her preliminary sketches. Hallie likes it because it gives her something that helps her focus her hands when she gets too restless and has a hard time sitting still, and it's something she and Ma can share :')

🎵: Are they any good at singing? What situations do/would they sing in? Would they sing in the shower?

I don't think any of them are, like, "win a national competition" good, but are varying degrees of passable - Molly would be the best but is more of a hummer than a singer. Hallie and Kharish would both sing in the shower ahaha.

😄: How can you tell when they're really happy? What sorts of things make them happy? How often do they smile?

going pre-Crisis: Molly at her happiest would complain (grinning) that her cheeks hurt from it. things that made her happy included Matty bringing home leftover pastries from the bakery, Agdis visibly brightening to see her, days when it was sunny but breezy and the air smelled like summer... she smiled fairly often. not so much nowadays!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦: What is their family like? Are there any family members that are particularly influential and/or important to them (whether in a positive or negative sense)?

I like to think Orsimer communities are very "it takes a village", but Kharish's immediate family is just Dad, Mom, and her, as Mom's a bit older. both parents were very influential in different ways - Dad was always making people laugh and was very popular as a result, so as a kid she took it upon herself to also learn the art of Make People Laugh (and then that means you're friends). Mom was the blueprint of ideal femininity: tall, elegant, smart... and taught her some basic handiness that unlocked the "oh I Like working with my hands to fix things" sentiment that would settle into bookbinding and repair!

I am especially loving how you portray fictional!matty & his struggles with his new found fame as taylor’s boyfriend ((also the fact that the money from fictional!taylors drawer went ‘missing???’… hmmm wonder who took that - such a good detail!!!)

also fictional!george makes an appearance?????!!! YAY. I love me some fictional!george and cannot wait for a fictional!tay & george interaction — i feel that the angst & jealousy may just be unmatched.

It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, but I had a lot of fun with it, and am super proud that I was actually able to finish them all! (And also so grateful for everyone that read them- thank you so much for being so wonderful and encouraging!) I'm smiling so hard at the idea that Tuesdays are becoming a favorite day because of the updates! Thank you so much for following along and the continued support of this fanfic endeavor! I am *also* a huge YKWTCI fan, and am so happy that people are still willing to give it a chance after all of the May drama with these two IRL. I was really excited about this update and am so happy it didn't disappoint!

Oh my gosh thank you so much 🥺 Fictional!Taylor and Fictional!Matty are both very sad and fucked up in their own ways in this fic, (I've been calling them my fictional bisexual disaster duo lol) and I have really enjoyed writing them and developing their characters and motivations. Getting to explore Fictional!Matty's relationship with his essentially "over night" fame in this fic is also a lot of fun- I can't imagine a universe where the character I've created with all of his issues would handle it well, and that it wouldn't have an impact on his self worth only being "desired" because of who his parents, and then later his "girlfriend" are. I was also way too excited about the missing money bit 😂 and was so very much hoping that someone would comment on it so a HUGE thank you for that😂 (this is like when I was very eagerly waiting for someone to comment on Fictional!Matty doing coke in Fictional!Taylor's bathroom and her totally missing it- and then being SO EXCITED when someone commented about it, I'm like yes, excellent, my hints are obvious enough lol)

We still have another chapter before Fictional!Taylor and Fictional!George meet (the meeting will be going down in lucky Chapter 13!) but I am SO EXCITED about their pissing match as they essentially both try and mark Fictional!Matty as theirs meanwhile Fictional!Matty has no idea what's going on and is just trying to make it through the day 😬 I was really excited about this chapter though and getting a little introduction to Fictional!George since he hadn't physically appeared yet.

AHHH Thank you for checking out the Equestrian AU as well! As very much a horse girl, that fic is so much fun for me to write and I am very much my own target audience (then again, I am pretty much always my own niche target audience lol) If I ever am just... assuming that people know too many things about horses let me know and i can try and clarify more. Horse things are just such a part of my day to day life (and the day to day life of the people I am surrounded by) that I sometimes forget that not everyone like, knows what a martingale is. One sided enemies to lovers is one of my FAVORITE things and I am having SO MUCH FUN writing it! Fictional!George hates poor Fictional!Matty so much and Fictional!Matty just wants them to be friends 🥺 I can't wait to get into this version of Fictional!Matty's past- if you think he's soft now just WAIT you are going to want to give him the biggest hug (I know I do!) I also really enjoy writing bitchy Fictional!George and it's been a lot of fun to explore a different dynamic with him!

Matthew's Childhood Headcanons

I've been thinking about Matt's Childhood a lot so headcanons.

He was very sickly as a child up until his , constantly catching colds and other illnesses. Francis wasn't good with dealing with illnesses leaving most of the house staff to care for little Matthew. Then Alastair showed up and took over that duty.

Though Arthur wasn't the best father until after the Revolutionary war, he still put everything on hold when Matthew got sick. Even if he was scheduled to leave, if Matt got sick, Arthur cancelled all plans a did his best to be there for him.

There was a lot of fighting between Arthur and Alastair as they tried to raise Mattie. Allie called Arthur out on his bullshit and how he couldn't leave both Matt and Al for the long periods of time like he was. Arthur chose to ignore or bite back that Allie wasn't exactly there for him when Arthur was little.

Poor Mattie hears all of this and blames himself for making his dad and uncle mad. He fails to realize there has been tension between the two for years and that it's actually Arthur's parenting that has added to the tension. But when Matthew runs away after a particularly bad fight, Arthur and Allie figure they needed to be more careful with their anger towards each other.

Mattie had always been anxious kid, made worse when Francis left and now even worse because he feels responsible for Arthur and Allie's fights. So he's always on his best behaviour, acting as the perfect son so they'll be happy and so they won't leave like Francis did

Arthur worries about how sensitive Matthew is. He reminds him of how he was as a child. A bit of a crybaby, preferring animals to people, losing himself in nature, very sensitive and wearing his heart on his sleeve. The world has broken Arthur down until he became steeled, pushing down his emotions until only anger or cockiness was left. He fears the same will happen to Matthew. He's left wondering if he should let Matthew go on like this for as long as he can or be the one to teach him how the world isn't too kind to a soft heart like his.

With Matt's Childhood trauma out of the way, let's get some more cute fluff

He loves nature and exploring the forest near his primary home. He often finds many things he finds cool and is eager to show them to Alastair and Arthur

Alastair was the one to teach Matthew to ride horses

Matthew thinks Arthur is the best storyteller. Even in his adult years.

He also loves Arthur's lullabies and sometimes, when times get rough in his adult life, he turns to Arthur and his lullabies to put him at ease.

Arthur has made him so many stuffed animals. Alfred got a few, but he was much more into the wooden toys Arthur made while Mattie took to the stuffed animals so he got a bunch. And Matthew still has almost all of them to this day.

Arthur taught Matt how to knit. Though he prefers the sweaters, mitts and hats his father makes, Matthew still likes to make scarves and other little knit wear for his loved ones from time to time

As soon as Matthew hit his teens, he took over cooking because he was not about to let Allie or Arthur cook because they were both terrible. During this time, he has a bitter sweet relationship with cooking since it was something him and Francis used to do together (at this point the two hadn't made up after Francis left him), but again, his uncle and dad's terrible cooking. But also, he is able to make the recipes his own as well as make new ones.

Though he calls Alastair uncle, Matt still sees him as a father figure and in turn Allie sees him as his son. But neither say it vocally.

Matthew's favourite memory with Arthur is when he was around 7 or so physically and Arthur had taken him out for a walk in the woods nearby and stopped for a picnic lunch and some reading in a nearby clearing. They spent the whole afternoon there, just the two of them. It was one of the few times they got to do something like that just the two of them.

Matthew's favourite memory with Alastair... Hmmm that's a tough one. He has many because Allie did everything to make him smile. But if he had to choose, he'd say the day he met Alastair. It was like love at first sight but in the familial sense. Allie had found him out in the woods of what would be Nova Scotia. Mattie had wandered off from his and Francis's house and had gotten lost eventually ending up near Allie's home in the new settlement. Alastair didn't hesitate to take him in. It was nice to live with Allie, he was very hands on in dealing with Matt, letting him play in the dirt, letting the boy take him on walks in the forest and a bunch of stuff Francis didn't let him do since nature and dirt was unbecoming to him.

i remember how back in the day, the 1975's the sound performance on the tonight show was my favorite performance of theirs since that was arguably matty's most stable tv performance vocal-wise at that time. so it makes me feel so proud whenever i rewatch their most recent tonight show performance really seeing matty being so consistently stable, present and happy not only in that performance but in every performance they've had since matty went clean 🥺

ok but dad!matty when baba gets sick (stomach bug, strep throat etc) and youve been taking care of her so he wouldn’t get it but then you catch it and he has to take care of both of you and baba 🥺🥺

amy comes home from nursery (kindergarten) one day when she's like three, and she's really quite lethargic with a little bit of a runny nose, but she's happy enough; you put her to bed a little bit earlier than usual, after a bath and a dose of calpol to hopefully nip whatever's up with her in the bud. and yet, you and matty are woken up by her tugging on his hand and crying softly like "daddy, can't sleep, don't feel well" just after midnight, and naturally matty goes into slight panic mode. he checks her temperature, and she's BOILING, little cheeks all rosy and the glands in her neck raised to signify she's poorly. you get her some water and some more medicine, and then the two of you sit on the floor beside her bed and coax her back to sleep, a cold washcloth on her head to try and break the fever she's suffering from - she whimpers out "want a cuddle", and before matty can oblige his baby girl you put a hand on his arm like "matty, baby, you CANNOT get ill right now, you're recording vocals tomorrow". matty shakes his head like "i don't care, darling, our daughter needs us", and you're like "it's alright, really, babe. i've got her, you can get work done this week, and we'll all be fine". it takes a minute to convince him, but matty agrees that it would make more logical sense for you to make sure amy's well - he reluctantly goes back to bed, while you fall asleep with amy cuddled into you safely. and yeah, you catch the cold she's suffering from too; matty comes home from work the next day to you both sniffling and sneezing on the sofa watching bluey, and he's like "awww, my girls. you're both not feeling well? don't worry, i'll take care of you". and he really does - orders chicken noodle soup and ice cream for your dinner, changes all the bedsheets, bathes amy while you shower, dries her hair and then yours, somehow finds the time to walk mayhem, snuggles up with both of his girls to comfort you AND still remembers to take paracetamol throughout to make sure he doesn't get sick (which you didn't do earlier and are mentally kicking yourself for). after he tucks amy into bed with a story and a song, you kiss his shoulder like "thank you for taking care of us. m'sorry you had to, i know you must be exhausted after working all day on top of looking after us", and matty's like "hey, hey, don't apologise, sweetheart. s'my job to look after my girls, i like doing it. actually, s'my favourite". you smile like "even when we're all snotty and sneezing?", and matty's like "well, that bit isn't my fave. and i hate seeing my girls in pain. but you're still adorable with a runny nose, darling, and so is our daughter. love you both so much, always will. and i'll always be here to look after you, too". sweet boy <3

I just finished reading Caught In the Undertow!! I really enjoyed it; I went through all the emotions!! I really loved the slow burn, and the pining between Matt, and Emily!! In chapter eleven when Emily, Karen and Marci were having their girls night, and Emily was talking about the future she wants with Matt, it reminded me of the song “We’ll Have Tomorrow” from the “Little Shop of Horrors - New Broadway Cast” album!! The vibes were similar; girl with a toxic boyfriend, mutual pining between girl and friend, but can’t really do anything about it.

Also this part in chapter thirteen “You both seem like you’re immediately jumping ship before you know if it’s even sinking.” It reminded me of the song “Apple Blossom” by The White Stripes. Honestly the entire lyrics for the song fits the story with Matt/Daredevil and Emily’s relationship, and it’s a great song. Chapter seventeen was *chef’s kiss*!! One of the best smut chapters I’ve read because it still had the emotions/romance whilst still being steamy. *melts into a puddle*

I also read You’ve Been Gone So Long, Baby back in mid-May on ao3. I forgot to mention it. That fic was beautifully heartbreaking!! I love the angst/hurt, and the comfort at the end was worth it!! Also I’m slowly reading all your fics, I love the writing❤️❤️

Aww yeah, there's a lot of emotions going on in that series. Especially with what Emily is dealing with, and then we find out Matt is struggling in his own way in that series, too. Lots of emotions in there and I'm glad they came through!

They definitely had a slow burn relationship filled with all that sexual tension. I always really loved writing the sexual tension between Emily and Daredevil too, especially in the flashbacks. Matt was so flirty when she didn't know it was him 😆

I don't know that song but I looked up the lyrics and with your explanation it definitely does fit! These two certainly have been pining secretly for each other for a bit despite Emily's toxic relationship. Poor Matt has always wanted her and Emily never thought she could have the future she always envisioned--especially once she learns Matt's secret.

Ohhhh yes! Daredevil/Matt had been dying to have an excuse to beat Justin up for a long time 😆 Got to love Matty coming to the rescue and protecting his loved ones--especially if he bloodies his fists doing so 🙌🏻

That White Stripes song is one I have not heard but now I need to go listen to it because the lyrics seem to fit perfectly with Matt and Em! He absolutely was always there listening to her problems, as Matt or Daredevil, and she was always looking for someone who didn't treat her like shit. And the last two lines? Definitely how Matty feels about her 👌🏻

Ahhh the smut chapter y'all waited like 100k words for 😆 I spent like 2 weeks writing that one because I knew it was very long awaited for that series and it needed to be perfect. I'm so glad the smut lived up to what it needed to for their moment of finally being intimate each other though!!

Oooof the heartbreaking You've Been Gone So Long, Baby! I hated hurting Matt like that while I was writing it even though it was a short series. I'm glad you enjoyed that one, too. And the sweet comfort at the end 🥺 That image of Matt at the end on the bed lives rent free in my head ALWAYS 🙌🏻
