Hot take but… “Gale was a teen soldier who got brainwashed, by a manipulative dictator, into the idea that sacrificing a small number of troops was worth it to definitively stop the government that had spent years ruining the lives of him and his people” and “Gale’s gross disregard for human life directly led to the death of Prim and thousands of other civilians including children, and Katniss is justified in her anger and has no obligation to ever forgive him” are two statements that can and should coexist together.

i like to think that tara is so fiercely territorial when it comes to gale out of a sense of protectiveness. oh, she knows gale is a more than formidable wizard—she'd even go so far as to say that he's one of the best—but she knows what he's like in love. his actions are of utter, nearly thoughtless devotion. dangerous.

once he starts falling, he falls willingly with open arms. he gives all of himself to the person he loves—and that is what scares tara. his heart, given so freely, must be loved in return and taken care of. but how can tara trust gale's lover to do so, when tara does not know them at all? she's seen the damage that careless hands have done to her little love, and she doesn't want that to happen again. but gale's heart is his to give, it is not hers to protect, and i think that hurts her more than anything.

Personal headcanons for Gale I use when writing, willing to share with others as usual. This is just a bullet point list with me throwing out some basic ideas, to maybe expand in the future.

He is around 39 years old during the game

Mystra returned to the Forgotten Realms in 1479 DR and current year is 1492 DR.

Gale would've been born around 1453 DR and then would've been around 26 when Mystra returned.

He would not start a romantic relationship with Mystra until he's around 29 years old.

He would have started under her tutelage, though, shortly after her return as he had, by that time, already learned quite a bit that he could from mortal studies.

Gale was "popular" and social due to his ability in magic and being a wizard prodigy. People hung out with him to hopefully get some of that to rub off on them and magic is how Gale knew to make connections. They all, of course, abandoned him when he fell from grace.

When he was younger and showing off/trying to impress for his "friends," he could really be insufferable.

He is a middle child, with me discussing my ideas for his siblings in this post

His father was a sorcerer, and I went a bit more into it in this first post discussing possible siblings

More to add when I decide to, of course, but this is just to give background for when I write him in my stories.

Methinks Astarion and Gale might be a tad, maybe just a little bit mad at Alfonso for accidentally telling Aradin about Aylin, causing him to storm their camp with six other dudes at one in the morning. I'm not sure why I thinks this so we'll just call it a hunch.

havent played bg3 in like half a year or more and im still like. half way though act 2. but in that time i HAVE read immortal days more than once and it HAS retroactively made me understand my oc way better. she's like a rabid dog in the same way phill is..... constant violent urges but unexpectedly got attached to someone who disapproves of it and now all choices are picked on a basis of "will shadowheart be mad at me"
