my scrunkly scrimblo…in a way i’d describe him as half living weapon. why half you may ask? because for the first half of his life he was treated as a human and then abruptly in the second half it just. changed. no more nice words. conflict between his ‘home’ and a neighbouring kingdom peaks, war comes, everything ends, though i mostly don’t focus on the war part haha. this guy knows he’s meant to be wielded and used, but just how much of a weapon is he? 

personality wise, he’s not a talker. despite his generally serious demeanour, he’s a much nicer person to be with than the one who raised him, caring about others because he thinks the world should just be kinder, and maybe if he cares enough he can repent for it all.

yes his intentions are good. yes he’s coping with it in the only way he knows how. he does genuinely care. he unwavers in his belief that he wants to give everyone a better life, wants to help more people than he possibly ever could. unfortunately, every decision has its downsides.

the things i have planned for them are definitely more serious and whumpy than my other ocs (yknow. living weapon typical story) but sometimes that’s required for a good ending!! so bear with me and my little scrunkly scrimblo over here i swear they get nice things too

Oh my god but he was so cute. The hot guy everybody wanted who had no idea how to act when he had a crush on a pretty boy. You just KNOW he kisses like an absolute dream. Also, when he was crying during the breakup scene I was ready to fly to Thailand and start throwing hands, I don't even care.

10. Bai Zongyi - Kiseki: Dear To Me (Taro Lin)

My guilty pleasure entry. Yes, I know he's a young'un and I should be ashamed but he has those giant yaoi paws (that scene where he is holding both of Zherui's hands with just one of his absolutely makes my teeth sweat) and obviously likes manhandling his crush/lover at any given opportunity. Plus he is a professional baker? Sign me UP.

11. Pisaeng- Be My Favorite (Gawin Caskey)

This is a guy who will cherish you with everything he has and will be a romantic sap about it. (I knew Gawin would be on this list, I just had to determine which role I chose...honestly he could have been on here multiple times)

12. Maya - Laws of Attraction (Silvy Pavida)

She can sing, she can dance, she can be a double agent performing espionage, and she is sooooooo hot it almost hurts to look at her. All I am saying is she can step on me and I will thank her profusely.

13. Neur - Cutie Pie (Tutor Koraphat)

This man showed up fully intending to Cause Problems On Purpose and ended up simping for the quiet, shy, devout member of the friend group he inserted himself into, and we were all of us better for it. Satu. 🙏

14. Babe - Pit Babe (Pavel Phoom)

He's the top (ha!) racer, an alpha, and also 100% babygirl. One smirk from him and I am on my knees. Don't worry about me, though, I'm doing just fine. (I will say that I never thought I would see omegaverse on my screen and yet here we are in this year of our lord)

15. Vegas Theerapanyakul - KinnPorsche (Bible Wichapas)

My problematic meow meow. He's a gangster. He's a killer. He's a sadist into whips, chains, and torture, not necessarily in that order. He's got a bit of a case of little brother syndrome. And I adore him, faults and all.

Aaaaannnddd okay! So, I could likely absolutely keep going, but I think I am going to tap out while I still have at least some dignity left after exposing myself as the thirsty bitch that I am. I've lost track of who all has already done this, so I am not tagging anyone in particular. If you decide to do this, tag me and let me know so we can thirst together!

Poll analysis so far:

Harry has held a strong lead since the beginning. His position in the Divorced Guy Vibes category is very strong, stronger than his mpdg status—but of course this is the yaoi website, and as someone who has written Harry/Kim fic I can certainly sympathize.

Gilear Faeth, who I was not familiar with until I did my research for the poll, held second for quite a while until being overtaken by Jimmy/Saul and descending far down the ranks. My understanding is that ‘divorced dad who goes adventuring’ is Gilear’s core character concept, and much of his character is developed out of having Divorced Guy Vibes. I don’t have enough information to determine how much of a mpdg he is, but he was a popular tag on the original post by @everymanpdf.

Ted Lasso was the most popular tag on the original post by far, and yet has not risen past 6th place once. I am not familiar with the show, but have been told he is too happy-go-lucky to have sufficient Divorced Guy Vibes.

Kendall was losing pretty badly until I sent a link to the poll to @thealogie, who I knew to be a fan of the trope, and she made a passionate argument in Kendall’s favor. He holds third place now. Her argument was centered around him being highly divorced, and she did not make an argument for his mpdg status. I have not watched much Succession and as such cannot comment.

Stede Bonnet was briefly tied for third but has since fallen quite a bit. As a mpddg (in spirit) myself who relates deeply to Stede I am a bit disappointed here, but concede that while he is a classic mpdg who is arguably divorced, he has very low Divorced Guy Vibes.

Gale Dekarios has held a middling to low position despite being discussed in the tags frequently. I have not played the game, so I will leave the reader to explore the tags of the poll for more commentary.

Jimmy/Saul was my vote, mostly because I am a mpddg and I relate to him so deeply it hurts. He now holds a solid second place. His divorced status is not explored in depth, but he does have some of the vibes and is very much a mpdg to Kim Wexler, bringing mischief and mayhem into her previously career-focused life.

That brings us to James Wilson, who also received a significant boost from the poll appearing on thealogie’s blog. I have not seen the show so my understanding of him is solely developed through following Thea. I did not know that he wad divorced, and have not picked up much of a mpdg vibe from him, so I am surprised he is holding 10%.

I briefly considered adding the Doctor to this poll, but dismissed the idea. In my opinion, the category only (arguably) applies to the tenth doctor in season 3. I doubt he would have received many votes.

Very few people have voted ‘other’. I encourage people to do so and tag characters I have neglected.

I am definitely going to run a tournament once the poll is over. Very excited to see if there are any upsets. I’m even considering making some videos to help familiarize folks with the contestants and their pros and cons.

OH BOY YOU’VE GOTTEN YOURSELF INTO AN UNSKIPPABLE DIALOGUE SCENE /lh

my special interest is Venom so I’m very biased about this but. you should 100% watch the Venom movies.

reason #1: they’re so fucking gay. Venom changes their mind and stays on Earth after wanting to kill everyone because of Eddie. They make out in the woods sloppy style. In the second movie Venom goes to a gay rave and tells people they’re “out of the Eddie closet”. They defeat both Riot and Carnage with the power of love. There’s a love confession on the beach and the extended edition of the scene on YouTube has them bicker about whether Eddie loves them (he’s in denial about his feelings). The tag line for the third movie is “til death do they part”. You couldn’t ask for a gayer movie.

reason #2: they’re so incredibly camp. the first one is very silly, but the second one dials the camp up to 11. Venom breaks up with Eddie and goes to a gay rave to learn more about themself. Anne has to flirt with Venom in front of her fiancée to get Venom to take Eddie back. Dan (the finance) is the one normal guy in these films, and he is doing his best in incredibly deranged circumstances.

reason #3: they’re amazing turn your brain off movies. listen, are the Venom movies good on a filmmaking level? hell no. there’s plot holes and some of the dialogue is… questionable. but they’re here to give you a fun hour and a half romp where they’re just fun and enjoyable and you don’t have to think too hard about what you’re watching. you just get to watch Tom Hardy argue and fall in love with himself for an hour and a half. this is what cinema was made for.

reason #4: Eddie Brock is like… actually a decent person. Despite being an action movie protagonist, he 1) reacts to strange things in a realistic way (ie literally screams and freaks out) 2) is able to admit when he needs help from other people and 3) sticks up for the people forgotten by society with his journalism.

reason #5: Eddie Brock is a sweaty depressed loser for the entire run time of the two movies. he spends the first movie in a sweat stained, always damp grey hoodie with holes in it. he wears this outfit that screams “human disaster” in the second movie:

reason #6: related to the image above, Eddie and Venom adopt chickens named Sonny and Cher. they got them so Venom could eat them, but they’re best friends so Venom refuses to. shenanigans ensue.

reason #7: the villain of the first movie is knockoff Elon Musk. through Eddie and Venom, you too can live out your dream of killing Elongated Muskrat.

reason #8: they have the world’s funniest break up scene in the second movie, featuring but not limited to Venom yelling at Eddie to get out of his own house. you truly couldn’t ask for better toxic yaoi /j

reason #9: Eddie jumps into a lobster tank at a fancy restaurant and eats one alive. you can’t find that level of deranged-ness in any other superhero movie

THE STORY IS SOOOO GOOD. The art also improved by a lot upon reaching the later chapters. Jae-rim is dubbed as “ugly” (he’s a whole cutie tho) and I’m glad to see a non conventional character design for an MC! I highly recommend reading this!!  👌💯

Incorrigible 

A sequel to “Never Understand” which is focused on Cho Ayeon’s story after being free from Soyeon’s control.

It has meme worthy illustrations xD. The graphics are nice but I found Taekyung (one of the MCs) to be a little toxic. Also, some parts of the story were not wrapped up/discussed enough imo. But overall, it was a pleasant read.

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?

Hmm… Byleth and Jeritza. It’s popular at least in the sense that it got talked about quite a lot when the news dropped about it being an option. I don’t know if it’s more popular than Byleth and Linhardt, if it is, that’s kind of sad. I honestly don’t get being attracted to serial killers - or wanting Byleth to be. The most popular M/M option for Byleth right now is probably Yuri, rightfully so IMO.

Another - I’d say Ignatz and Lysithea. This one doesn’t actually get talked about aside from what I’m about to say, which is Lysithea was being a mega bitch in their supports.8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*I wouldn’t call it hate towards me precisely, but I did get some heated asks regarding the thing about all of the M/M options for Byleth being so-called “twinks” or “femmes.” There were some asks sent to me that spoke of “twinks” and “breeders” negatively IIRC. I got the impression that someone was venting to me.I did answer most of those asks, so if you look in the fe3h gaycourse tag you can find them.All of the actual hate I’ve ever received was off anon. One example was being called some kind of slur or something similar because I didn’t agree with the idea fire emblem/three houses was trying to send a message to players that masculine gays don’t exist or aren’t valid.

That post easily generated the most amount of controversy on my blog so far.

As a refresher/short summary of my opinion on this:

I think having a variety of different guys for M/M options is ideal (including types I don’t personally care for, like ojiisans or bodybuilders)

however, if there isn’t a wide variety, then that isn’t the developers necessarily insulting the kind of guys that weren’t options or the guys who like those kinds of guys.

An important piece of context is that in the vast majority of games with M/M options for western english players (aka the people I was interacting with/talking about), either all of the options are masculine guys (who are often ripped) or there’s a variety of different guys. All femme guys almost never happens in those games. So FETH having supposedly all “femme/twink” options (the only one I’d call that is Yuri) is not the end of the world.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why? 

Three Houses:

I dislike pretty much ever aspect of Edelgard, for reasons I’ve discussed before. The few things I like: her very handsome pre-skip outfit, her voice, her battle pose. I can’t take her post-skip outfit seriously, she looks like a shitty cartoon villain.

The slithers are awful in general and boring as shit. There’s nothing interesting about them. Generic evil people. I liked Kronya’s design but she lasted 5 seconds. Also see Metodey.

Randolph’s “I’m invading Garreg Mach to protect my family” goes to show how unintelligent he is.

Fates:

Hana: Nasty to Corrin and several other characters in their supports. It’s like a worse version of Lysithea with even less reason to be prickly.

Nyx: I could be misremembering, but I heard she’s an example of some localization changes. I heard she was changed to basically being a cranky grandma. See Hana for reasons I dislike her.

Inigo/Lazlow/Soleil: In general I have a tendency to dislike the characters who are super horny for girls. When some class is added to the mix as with Virion or Lorenz, I can enjoy them. I’ll also say that skirt chaser characters tend to be a lot more interesting in my opinion when they aren’t talking to girls (or aren’t talking about girls) - see Sylvain and Felix, Virion and Libra, Inigo and Gerome, etc. This lets them break out of their trope a bit and let’s see you what there’s behind it.

Nina: I don’t remember anything interesting about her, she just seemed to be an example of an annoying yaoi fangirl. Hopefully there’s much more to her but… that’s what I remember.

Awakening:

Validar: The generic evil villain. I think perhaps Awakening had most well-rounded cast for me out of the three.

Last time, the story started in the middle of an inexplicable fight, Izuku gave Shoto his phone number and had multiple houses, and Katsuki told Izuku he doesn’t want Izuku to call anyone by their first name but him! Because being controlling is romantic, right?? (Sarcasm.)

In today’s chapter, Katsuki attempts to confess his “love,” Izuku is forced to dress as a girl, Shoto kidnaps Izuku, I rant about people uke-fying my favorite characters, and Kirishima offers some terrible advice!

Yikes...

Wow, I scrolled through the VK tag today and the discussion is getting heated with accusations being thrown around.

I saw some posts that I wanted to respond to but I decided to just state my thoughts in one big post. 

**Warning: I know not everyone will agree with my opinions, but lets keep the discussion civil. most of us are adults after all. 

Some members of this fandom have expressed their doubts that Ren and Ai are lesbians that are in love with each other and maintain that they are just very close siblings. That is what I would hope, that they are simply close siblings. However, Hino is making it very hard to not suspect their relationship. The way she portrays them makes them seem more like a couple than regular siblings.

(Btw: Thanks a lot to zekiship for providing raws, I really appreciate you taking the time and $ to do this)

The shojo ai vibes are very strong in these images. Let’s be real, how many of us hold our siblings like that, gaze at them like that, and bring our lips so close like that?

 If we showed these images to random people that don’t read the manga, I’m sure most of them would guess they are a romantic couple instead of siblings. Also Hino keeps talking about “desire”, which in the context of this manga mostly refers to a romantic and/or sexual desire. Obviously, Hino has not explicitly stated that Ren and Ai are a yuri couple, but she definitely seems to be implying that. TBH, if she is gonna be dancing around the edges like this, she might as well just be straightforward and explicitly state they are a yuri couple. I would applaud her for having the balls to do that in a mainstream shojo manga.

Another post stated that people in this fandom ship guys together but flip out when its a lesbian couple and basically insinuated that people who disapprove of RenAi are lesbophobes. I am gonna proceed on the assumption its in response to my prev. post speaking out against RenAi. 

The first part of that statement certainly does not apply to me, I don’t particularly ship any couple, hetero or yaoi or yuri in this series. I think there are many potential shojo ai couples Hino could have explored that I would have found more interesting, like Yori x Yuki or Yuki x Maria etc. Even if RenAi was a hetero couple, I would still find their relationship problematic. In conclusion, this has NOTHING to do with them being lesbians or not, and its honestly quite offensive to accuse people of being homophobic without any sound basis. I mean, there might be ppl out there that are against RenAi b/c they homophobic, but I think the majority of ppl against RenAi feel that way b/c of other reasons, and not anything to do with their sexual orientation.

There are MANY reasons why I don’t like RenAi that other ppl have already stated. My biggest one is that Ai literally raised Ren from the time she was a baby - she was basically a second mom b/c Yuki was too busy. How do you go from burping a baby to lusting after her when she grows up? That boggles my mind...Also, Ai was already like 70 years old when Ren was born, it seems like she never bothered making any meaningful connections with people before Ren came along. That’s kinda weird and very sad, her whole world just revolves around Ren. IMO, in any romantic relationship, you cannot let your life be consumed by your partner, you need to have a life of your own. I don’t like how she literally stalks Ren around all day and spying on her with binoculars. Like girl, you need to get a life of your own. Go meet some eligible bachelors or bachelorettes or go on a vacation or go help Yuki and Zero out with work. And this goes both ways!!! Ren, Ai literally raised you and changed your diapers! It seems like in the world of VK, only the Kurans and Zero are “good” so if Ren and Ai look for romantic partners or friends they can only look within their family b/c apparently everyone else in the world (ex. the other purebloods and lesser vampires) are “evil” and not worth interacting with. 

Then there were replies to that post discussing the incest component of RenAi and how ppl are being hypocritical by supporting Yume but being against RenAi. Let me get this out of the way: I DON’T support Yume or HarukaxJuri etc. (sorry Yume shippers, incest just isn’t my cup of tea, but on the other hand I am not a Zeki either; I’m one of the few ppl in this fandom that simply doesn’t care for either of the main couples) In my prev. post I simply stated Hino’s justification for the incest among the Kurans (its to keep the lineage clean etc.), just stating the author’s explanation does not mean I support it. My main issue is that she keeps harping on the incest factor at the expense of the plot. Someone said that VK is supposed to be a dark manga so that’s why the incest is there...TBH I’ve read manga with much darker themes so if Hino is doing this to explore the darkness of the human/vampire soul or whatever, its not working so well. If she wanted to talk about dark stuff, there are themes other than incest that she can expound on, such as the hierarchical nature of vampire society and the predation of young children for their blood etc. 

As others have commented, it seems Hino is just trying to force the original love triangle to some conclusion through Ren and Ai. I think Hino needs to stop spending so many pages on Ren and Ai’s relationship, whether it be platonic or not, and actually work on her plot. Like what will happen to Kaname as he lives out the rest of his life as a human? Did Yuki and Zero ever come to some peace agreement with the other purebloods? etc.

Anyway, for ppl reading this, if there are things I said that you don’t agree with, don’t take it too personally and get all upset. I’m sure we all got bigger fish to fry like paying bills and taking finals  ¯\_(ツ)_/��  I’m only still reading VKM b/c I started VK in middle school and I like getting closure lol. Also, I know its too much to expect, but I want to see if Rukain or Shima had any kids and what happened to Takuma etc.

‘Trap’ Discourse and anime

I've seen the fights over Trap being derogatory before and I'm here to give you some different viewpoints on it. It's a doozy, get popcorn TL;DR at the bottom.

Trap can be used offensively or non offensively in various situations IRL. People saying women with too much makeup are a trap, that sexy bystander at the bar is a trap, star wars jokes; hell a person with a bunch of puppies is a trap. Basically anything that's "not what it seems" can be a trap; so yes, any lgbt/queer person can fall into this, but it's not exclusive to them.

Here's how trap is being used in it's anime context. It's similar to the otokonoko(which literally means boy in japanese but it's used in a trap way idk) tag one might find. Males dressing as females. Reverse traps being Females dressing as males. If someone related the term to real life, it would be Transvestite or cross dresser; and even cross-play falls under the category along with Drag Queens/Kings. Virtually all the time this is used in anime, it's a male, who identifies as a male, but dresses like the stereotypical female. Vice Versa for Female traps. Transgender characters and people do not fall into this category. That is the genderbender category. Depending on the site, genderbender includes traps. It's all a mix of random tag names to find shit easier.

Remember, these characters in the stories, yaoi or not (the teacher from utapri is a trap), are not looking to become a different sex or gender. They're just changing clothing. The only exception to this that I've seen is Hourou Musuko (wandering son) that actually focuses on transgender aspects. Unfortunately there isn't a widely used tag for that genre yet. I wish there was, because then there'd be an easier way to find transgender focused fiction or anime

I've had friends from farther up California (i'm socal) tell me that in a certain area, assholes use trap as a slur to many lgbt, transgender or not. This isn't a big thing down here in san diego, in the town I live in in the mountains, or in Denver where I've been multiple times and my family resides. It's rarely used outside the context of anime then aimed specifically at queer people. But there will always be exceptions due to bigoted assholes using whatever they can think of to put someone down. A great way to stop that from happening IRL is to own it. Some one says you're a trap maliciously? Tell them you look damn fine, you're comfortable with yourself and they can go eat shit. My college did that and now queer is not a slur. It's an all inclusive term for people on campus that fall into lgbt categories.I've used it off campus with family and friends with no problems too. I'm not saying that it's a sure-fire or always feasible solution; but it's better than fighting friends in your community about something not intended, or used to offend you.

Trap being a slur for transgender people is pretty recent too. It's always been in the western anime comunity since way back. It was never meant to be derogitory, was never a prominent slur and there's never been a problem with it until now.

You can't dictate an entire community's sorting medium because you take offense to it. I don't take offense to the Japanese 'Yankee', just because I'm an american; and we're technically historical yankees. Same word, completely different contexts and communal origins. Same thing for stereotypes. They can be comedic or bigoted; depends on the situation and fucking CONTEXT.

"lol Italians love wine" vs. "They're italian so they should like wine right?" vs. "Italians are fucking Drunkards!"

See the difference in context???1st is a joke, 2nd might be slightly ignorant, 3rd is straight up hate.

Gay started out as a term for happiness and merry making, and then people started using it as a slur toward "gay" people. They went from homosexuals to "gays". YEARS later, it's now in a sense, just a term for sorting people into queer categories. No malevolent nature to it, unless someone is blatantly using it to hate on you. But no one's going to say gay is offensive now. No one's going to say anything unless it's used in the context of a slur. I'm not going to go smack everyone that utters the word just because that dick Jim from down the street and my small town hates gays and it offends me. I'm not going to hit my grandparents either, because they're old and they still use it in the happy sense. I AM going to smack Jim if he says 'gay' to me. In that instance, in the context of Jim being a bigot directing hate towards me, 'gay' becomes a slur; and I will take offense.and smack him

Not taking offense to, and using Trap as an anime term doesn't discredit anyone IRL. It doesn't invalidate anyone/anygender/anysex/anyorientation digitally or in real life. What does invalidate, and hurt is shitting on someone for using something that has been there since the beginning and never had a bad rep until YOU decided it was the worst thing in the world. All because one asshole called you and you're friends a "Trap" somewhere. Even though nothing changed in the anime community with regards to loving or hating traps. You came in here and attacked everyone for some hate that doesn't apply here.

No one's victim blaming you all either. The one's experiencing this trap slur rise are victims yes. However, everyone being screamed at here, are now victims of that irrationality and anger from outside, when they've done nothing wrong. They didn't call you trap, they didn't sneer at you, they didn't hurt you. They've kept to themselves online, enjoying, appreciating, loving something you claim they're destroying. They never spread hate, ignorance, or resentment, you did by bringing your reality into a non existant plane.

There are safe spaces online and IRL. But you cannot censor the internet, you cannot censor art, and you CANNOT CENSOR CREATIVITY. Plus don't kinkshame, rood.

If you TL;DR'ed, then here's the key points:

Trap is meant for transvestites in anime. It is a western term for an anime genre. It is almost exclusively for transvestites. Anything else would likely fall into the genderbender category. Take your pick.

It's been used positively for said genre all this time with the exception of those that aren't into that specific genre.

You think trap is rude? Talking about 'trans' as an all encompassing group but glossing over or even excluding transvestites is worse.

If you're trans-male, trans-female, or agender/other non-binary trap barely even applies to you. A trans-male, dressing as a male isn't a trap, it's normal. They're male, they wear male clothing. Same goes for anyone. I think anyone should where anything they want, but that's just me

Unless you exist inside of that anime/manga, you cannot be a trap or any of those tags. Doesn't matter what you are at this point, you're not a fictional character. You're a living, breathing human being who isn't bound by words.

You're taking a slur from an entirely different community, throwing it at the other community and then blaming them for it when they're peaceful and accepting of it.You can't give a cartoon shit, they don't exist. That's like having a Japanese person come to America to give me shit for being mixed race. They're pressure on mixed natives doesn't apply to me. I'm in a different country, in a different community where it's fine; we embrace diversity here.

A similar example is the use of 'nigger.' In the African American community, it can be used as a friendly term. Like calling your best friend a bitch in greeting/or whatever. Harsh word, but not malicious in intent or context. Saying it outside the community is usually racist, because it's used harshly, with the intention of insulting. In that sense the african american community is taking back the slur and removing it's power.

It's not right to yell at them for using nigger in their own community; thus, the same goes for any community, like the anime community.

In the end, trap is just another term to help sort through japanese stories and art. The same as horror, cat, slice of life, shounen, or sparkly unicorn farts. Whatever tags one can pull out their ass can apply to anime, but it'll never be intended for real life people.

Fiction can never harm you unless you can't seperate it from reality and act on it, or you have a mental disorder. A story with triggers can't physically follow you around or force you to experience it. A word can't jump out and stab your eyball or anything. It's all there for entertainment, imagination, relaxation, or controlled exploration. TRAP CAN NOT DEPRICATE TRANSGENDER PEOPLE BECAUSE IT'S NOT TALKING ABOUT THEM AND IT'S ABOUT CHARACTERS THAT ARE NOT REAL PEOPLE.

MOSt IMPORTANTLY NONE OF THESE ANIME TERMS APPLY OR SHOULD APPLY TO ACTUAL PEOPLE. JUST TO FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. THEY CANNOT HURT YOU, OR STOP YOU FROM BEING YOU

Yeah sometimes trap is being used in a bad way, but once again, it exists in two different contexts. Whatever shit people say out in the real world has no value here in anime fun land. If you give someone shit for their tastes in fiction, you might as well throw them in a box and say "you can't be happy with you're cartoon/anime/book because it offends me IRL"

Some ramble. Mostly about Kida. I love Kida okay.

First of all, I’m not 100% sure as to why I’m posting this hahaha, but I always like to talk about Durarara!! so here I am again!

Like all my posts actually this is a purely copy pasted with no editing of me annoying my friends with this serie. It is NOT meant to be a professional review or something or be an objective insight of the serie it is purely personal.

Now before you read this does this have salt? WELL YEAH looking at it again personally and since it was meant as me talking one on one with someone, yeah it does have salt.

Salt mostly come from the 2010 and about fandom when the serie was ALL THE RAGE. It has been 7 years. The community is much calmer now I guess.

Now before you read this again...

Is Kida a perfect character? No. Not at all. I could list 12309123 stupid things the kid did, that doesn’t stop him from being my personal fave. I just... talk about the parts I wanna talk about.

Do I hate Izaya? No, though I could talk a lot about fanon Izaya, but I TOTALLY put fan content and interpretation apart from canon. I *LOVE* canon Izaya. Absolutely. I could talk about him too. If this makes me come pass as hating the character, I’m sorry it’s not the case.

I’m 16 and I love Durarara!! and BL why me?! Obviously I’m generalizing, obviously I’m flawed. And I do really like yaoi hahaha. I’m just a person who talks too much about a serie I love and ends up posting it. I think I’m pretty disconnected to the movement of manga/anime community in general, see me as someone who just comes like *pokes head in the room* “Ey guys here’s my insight”.

Are you complaining about the fan content? I won’t hide it, yeah. Am I hypocritical since I do some and consume some? A bit I guess. I’m naturally a canon purist, but really I’m a human being. I’m not white and black. Plenty of times I did the fan thing with friends sharing fanarts and shit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you’ve seen me two years ago I had some shit because I said something about Shizuo x Izaya... and ironically nobody knew I actually like the ship to some extent. Depending of its portrayal I enjoy it plenty. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In the Durarara!! anime, they kept mostly Kida’s airhead/flirty facade and removed the darker, mature part of him mostly (I mean they kept big parts of it through his inner monologue which I love). I noticed a lot of anime fans think he's pretty stupid and get on their nerves. And I mean he is stupid about things he does don't get me wrong he does a lot of stuff wrong, but there's a depth in character to him that isn't shown.The thing about Kida is that he looks like an idiot, but he's hiding his dominant and threatening facade. So in the second part of the anime, where it is his time to shine and be all badass, he looks just pretty pathetic tbh. (NOT that he must not look pathetic at some point the boy is at the end of his roll)

(I love so many things about the new manga like HOW AOBA LITERALLY SHOWS UP IN KIDA'S CLOTHES.THINKING YOU CAN REPLACE HIM.YOU MOTHERFUKCER.)

Lately I was really happy because since I've had Kida's blog (about two years?) I've had spiked of people sending messages to talk about the serie and what to get out from it, like confusing parts and stuff. 

And often I'm like

"W8 like the serie ended in the 2000s you never―"

No because apparently outside BL fanfictions there's nothing very highlighted in what I’ve seen in the fandom on multiple social medias (for example most of whatever I see on Kida is... Mikida, or how much Saki is such a fake girlfriend). Like how can I put it it takes A LAAAAAAARGE PLACE and it makes my eyes open in... surprise I guess. Then again, the serie is known for having an audience like this.

Durarara!! was written off like the Monogatari (IDK why it’s the first example I have) serie of some sort, it was mostly a mystery light novel mixed with slice of life with some sexy mysterious female characters.

At first, young adults were drawn to it by its more down-to-earth theme and also teenagers because of the cool characters and all. Then it grew om popularity somehow with the male characters. Even the author at some point commented how surprising it was for him. So the novels took the initial direction of the mystery story and so did the manga which is extremely close to the novels.

While the anime studio, after the first anime part (which is what made the popularity burst) went "huehuehue let's make money out of fujoshis" and it's only that.I really feel like the second part of Durarara!! where fanon portrayals sometimes eh. "Oh no, Kida is not supposed to be a more matured (compared to his initial maturity) BUT STILL BOYISH and impulsive gang leader in part two who fixed his issues, no he needs to be a dorky shota boy." Me: oh godammit.

I did talk about the anime/manga in the past.

(The French community I was active in really liked mostly the mystery parts with Celty, the yakuzas and Shizuo. Then again I mostly talked to adult males, the younger members had other interests (which weren’t necessarily bad I’m NOT saying omg we were so elitist liking Durarara!! while you guys were watching Naruto it’s just it wasn’t as popular. So there may be just me being shocked at suddenly 360° different insight.) I had awesome talks with them and I still get a lot of great talks on here too!

I take real pride so far I got messages of 14 people to watch the entirety of DRRR!! and 3 to read the novels solely because of my blog? With 3 people who rewatched the serie to focus on Kida and sending me messages about how they now get his character and other characters better?

That's like. To me the ultimate goal? It was entirely unintentional on my part, tbh I just expected salt and shiet like I had back when the serie was more popular and eeeyyy!

I mean. You can’t say you wouldn’t be totally happy for people to say they love the serie you like and your fave because of you..!

A lot of Durarara!! with its deep characters are the subtlety in it (on top of my head I think the Van Gang is the biggest one in it, like how Erika and Walker’s darker side is, JUST LIKE WITH A LOT OF CHARACTERS, shown with comedy which totally turns off the threatening side of it). I will sound mean I guess (but he got enough love to patch a rough part) but Izaya's character is a lot about "I love all humans" and "humans are my peons"... however he's not one of the most interesting character (to me); he's the one clearest to read in its "philosophical edginess", thus why to me he's so popular among the teen viewers (he has a VERY interesting insight in other ways but I believe it is not in the same direction). Izaya is a complex character. But is he most complex than the others? I don’t think so. In my view, his complexity is easier to see at first glance, but that doesn’t mean he’s less complex than others who are harder to ponder upon.

Izaya will say a deep philosophical monologue, like when he convinces in first episode a teenage girl to kill herself (which although it wasn’t in the novel was a very strong and well summarized scene to present him - novels imply things, but showing it in a visual medium is an excellent idea). Somehow in the fandom, a lot of quotes of DRRR!! are with Izaya's philosophy and often tagged as "too real", while the rest of the serie shows not with words but with actions that Izaya's point of view is not that true (the point of the story being "The world isn't as bad as you think" when it's in a yakuza and tragic setting).

Even characters verbally contradict him but of course they're side characters and not the hottest so we'll never quote them in posts uh.

(That's what really hit me when I came to tumblr. I normally watch a lot lot lot lot of things, but after I'm done I move on and don't do anything about it but talk about it to my IRL friends. Meeting internet fandoms was like a huge slap in the face.)

It's not that I don't like him, Izaya is pretty much in an edgy teenage phase and doesn't wnat to get out of it. In the novels he himself state that "I'm forever 2X." and refuses aging. His whole character is about staying in his teens. Young fandom sees it as extremely deep, while really it is quite simple, just that his philosophy, which is what literally every teenager goes through, is somehow put on a pedestal because of his charisma.

The point of Izaya's character is that he's so screwed but so charismatic he swoons teenagers (such as Saki) - if you notice every adult characters take him as a moron and a kid. Izaya plays with teenagers because they're weaker and has a hard time manipulating adults. Which I find in itself both ironic and kind of annoying because his charismatic manipulation works on the fandom like????? They believe him??????? Like talking about his quotes. One of Izaya’s quote is after he got Saki in a coma (and implied sexual abuse and shit by a gang...) and that Kida is pretty much there (14 years old jfc) not knowing what to do and realizing he was deceived.

Izaya tells him "Your guilt will be your past, and that will be your God."

And it is true, for the year Kida spends. When he tries to turn a new page to have a peaceful life with Mikado, he still go see Saki everyday after school and he's so strong to get past his fucked up past that he eventually goes to Saki to formally break up with her. Because now he has a normal life with his childhood friend and is looking for even a new girlfriend (which is Anri who he is genuinely interested in).

Of course Izaya told Saki to plant seeds in Kida's mind, such as her faking to not be able to walk anymore because he wants Kida to still feel guilty or have her say things like "In all girls you'll see me. You'll hug her, kiss her, but you'll always love only me."

Then in the serie, Kyohei tells Kida "If you want to run from your past, fine. But whatever you do, don't run away from your present or worse, your future. No matter how much you try to escape it, you can't get away from what you were part of."

And then in the season finale, that's when Kida says in his inner monologue. "Saki, I'm not afraid anymore; I'll catch up to my past very soon." And then he pretty much goes to kill someone and kill himself in the process.

And I'm like

LITERALLY the whole serie and Kida's arc and Kyohei completely fucks up what Izaya tried to do since the beginning (or try patching up the broken pieces). So why is Izaya's quote  "Your guilt will be your past, and that will be your God." is the only one I see in every goddamn post.

I’m not saying what Izaya says is 100% false, but it’s WAY not 100% true. Durarara!! itself shows a grey area everywhere, with tones of being lighter although at first glance it seems darker.

And people talks about Kida like "Bouhou lots of self-deprecation and depression he never forgets his past" and I'm like "what no the whole serie sees him moving on". The whole point of Kida's arc is his recovery even if everything wants to pull him back to where he was before. The only time he re-dives in it's to die so he can protect Anri.

Literally the kid more or less does every first good steps to have a better life and life just shit on him.

After getting manipulated by the only adult he trust during an extremely fragile preteen period, spent all your teenage insecurities into a bloody bludgeoning gang war in Ikebukuro (with fucking preteens, preteens don’t DO THAT) and have your girlfriend beaten (and implied more) and into a coma. Man at 14 I would have fucked up so bad.

And Kida just sits down to his computer and is like "I can have a new life, I must not give up." and invites his best friend to Ikebukuro, the only stable and loving element of his life he has (maybe not thee best thing but ey kid’s 15 now, alone, no guidance, pls I’m lonely Mikado come to me). And then he even finds a new girl to pursue. He goes to his toxic girlfriend who’s totally enamored and obsessed with Izaya and tells her "We're done now." and leaves, even if inside him he still loves her, but he knows it's not good for him. (It ends up with Saki realizing, telling everything Izaya has done, apologizes and Kida being too good for this world and forgives her)

He only comes back into the gang after he heard a gang attacked Anri. And he knows that to protect her from this huge new gang, he has to fight fire with fire and the whole time he's depressed, keep screaming in his head THEY BROUGHT ME BACK... FUCK because he's going to the start since his recovery. But Kida sees Anri has way more important than him, thus why he “sacrifices” himself to keep her innocence, which is why he’s so shocked when it is hinted that Anri is involved in more and ends up with her slapping him. Pretty much he thinks everything he’s done is for nothing and that the one he tried to protect so much was as backstabbing and fucked up as the rest of the people he put his trust into.

THEN OH JOY HE REALIZES THE GANG WHO WAS SAID TO ATTACK ANRI is the gang who attacked Saki (so both girls he liked were screwed by the Blue Squares)

And afterwards his best friend becomes obsessed with the gang world and becomes the leader of the gang who fucked his girlfriend and tried to get Anri. (I mean the members are methods are not the same with Aoba coming back, but it is still the same flag, the same organization, etc.)

BUT HE STILL FIGHTS. That guy needs hugs.

Yuri on Ice observations/my new headcanons

So yesterday I binge watched yoi for the second time (it takes ~5 hours for anyone interested), but this time I focused on how Viktor’s and Yuuri’s relationship changed during the episodes and I decided to share my notes (some of these have probably been said, but I haven’t seen them as it’s literally impossible to look at every post made about yoi :D )

1. The summer. Episode 4 to 5 transitions directly from spring to autumn and the show shows zero time of what happens during summer besides a few scenes of Yuuri training and a few panels in the ED where we can see Yuuri and Viktor playing around in the beach and in their swim trunks. Knowing this happened after 4th and before 5th ep we can see that their interactions are much more free. 

Yuuri touches Viktor more freely, and they seem to have a really great time. I believe that it’s this time that brings them closer together to the edge of being in love. I don’t think they’re together yet, judging by ep 5 and the Japanese skating competition interactions, if they have been together already there’s no way Viktor would have jumped away from the hug, blood or no blood.

2. Between September and October. Japanese skating competition (it has a really long name which I’m not going to write every time I refer to it) shows Viktor and Yuuri becoming closer, besides, I’m pretty sure it was the first time Yuuri finished his FS pointing towards Viktor (we’ve never seen him finish it before so it’s not confirmed).

I think this was what drew the final point home and the next month the two of them are even more touchy-feely than before

During his SP Yuuri also thinks that ‘I’m the only one who can satisfy Viktor. I’m the only one in the whole world who knows Viktor’s love.’ And yes, these aren’t directly meant words, he means that he finally accepted that Viktor became his coach and no one else’s, that even if Viktor used Yuuri to get away from skating he chose him and no one else. But I still think Yuuri chose those specific words for a reason. They were thought during Eros, his sexual love performance, so I think there’s the double meaning here that he stole Viktor not only from skating, but from the dating world too.

3. The exhibition program. I’m not a skating knowledge pro or anything, but I’m pretty sure (+ I read about it on someone’s post, or it may have been a repost of Kubo’s tweet, I don’t even know...) that there was an exhibition after every competition in the Grand Prix series and those who place on podium do an exhibition afterwards (I did some research and it’s not for certain it was like this in the anime, but knowing how realistic it made the show this was probably how it went). So that would mean Yuuri did an exhibition in China, where he skated Viktor’s winning FS program, everyone understood why (it brought Viktor to him, besides he did it really well and it was tribute for his coach). So here comes the GPF, Yuuri comes second, so of course he does the exhibition (and the exhibition wasn’t held a month after the competition as I have seen some assumer) Yuuri and Viktor had to choreograph it way before the competition (well, maybe not that long ago, Yuuri learned Eros routine in about a week, it wasn’t perfect, but he did). So here comes my headcanon - Viktor and Yuuri decided this program after Rostelecom Cup.

A lot of people (I’m among them) see the exhibition as the two doing pair skating and it basically is it with how the program is done, but exhibition

can be performed by 2 people, it’s allowed and unlike pair skating no one says it has to be male and a female (or I think I doesn’t?) so after the award ceremony, Viktor goes to the organisers, announces he’s coming back, says he will do his first official skating in exhibition with his student. Everyone knows about that, they probably imagine that the two will do the same FS program side by side or something, what they don’t expect is it suddenly becoming basically pair skating

after Viktor comes in there’s a brief loudness in cheer, then they hold hands start doing their own thing and everyone is shocked, for what we see of the rest of the exhibition no one cheers any more while before while Yurri was still alone they cheered during every jump (and I think the lifts would have definitely deserved a cheer if everyone hadn’t just had their minds blown). So yea, everyone knew Viktor was going to be there, but no one expected him to do that. Bravo Viktor, you surprised them all once again.

P.S. I know some probably think ep 4 was during the summer, but guys, look at this scenery:

I’d say at most this is beginning of June, summer has 3 months that we can do whatever we want with because we have no info on what happened during them...

P.P.S. I’m so proud of this show I just can’t, this was fist and foremost a sports anime and it stayed true to itself through all of it, the sport wasn’t just some sunscreen, it was the main focus of the anime with a side note of romance, not even yaoi, but romance. That’s why this anime isn’t under any other tag than sports anime in official pages, because it wasn’t yaoi, but because it’s not the ‘traditional’ romance it couldn’t have been put under that tag either. it was so mature with itself I’m considering re-watching it for a 3rd time in a week or two and I never re-watch anything. :D

Chapter seven: Hypothermia.

Victor was too tired to really think. Yuuri was out, but he was safe. He would come back. Still, it was too cold to sleep. He curled up under Yuuri’s wool and fur coat. Didn’t Yuuri need it? No, he had taken Victor’s. “Victor.” Said a deep, familiar voice. “Yakov, go away, I’m tired.” He said, and rolled over. After a second, his eyes popped open. Yakov? He sat up, pulling the coat tighter around his shoulders. “I’m not going back.” “And why not? You’re soaking wet, you barely have a fire, and your knight in shining armor isn’t even here. You could come back and we could forget any of this ever happened. The hearth is still burning, you have dry clothes, your bed-” “I don’t want to go back.” Victor said indignantly. “I like Yuuri, and I think he likes me.” “Oh.” Yakov scoffed. “So now Vitya knows best. Vitya’s so mature now. He doesn’t like you. He doesn’t care. All he wants is this-” Yakov thrust a leather satchel into the light of the simmering coals. “He doesn’t want you-” “No!” Victor shouted. “He likes me for me, I’m sure of it.” “Oh, okay. Then give it to him. Watch him run and leave you for dead. He wants money, not romance-” “You’re wrong!” Victor snarled. “I’ll give it to him, just watch. He won’t leave me. I’m cold so I’m going to try and sleep and forget it.” “Do you want your coat back?” Victor asked. “No, it’s fine, yours is still wet.” “Oh, okay.” Victor said. He walked over to Yuuri and sat down gently. “Sleep well.”

“Ka- I mean Yuuri?” Victor asked. It was still taking him time to switch the names around in his head. “Yuuri, wake up.” It had been an hour, maybe two. “Yuuri, your lips are blue, is that bad?” He was cold, and his fingers were bright red under Victor’s white ones. “Yuuri, why did you give me your coat, you need it.” His breathing was light and shallow. “Yuuri!” He slapped him. “Yuuri what’s wrong… Yuuri.” He put his arms over Yuuri’s shoulders. “Come on.” “F-flower gleam and glow, Let your powers shine, Make the clock reverse, Bring back what once was mine. What once was mine.” His head hurt incredibly. He’d never sung more than twice in one day, and even that was pushing it. But Yuuri’s lashes slowly fluttered open. “Am I dreaming? Were you singing just now?” “Yuuri!” Victor exclaimed, squeezing him. “I’m so glad!” “Why?” “If you ever pull self sacrificing shit like that again, I’m leaving you.” “Who said we were together? And where did you learn that word?” “What word?” “Shit.” “Hm? What happened?” “You’re impossible.” Yuuri said, but Victor felt his hands tighten around his waist. “Thanks for saving me though.” Yurio huffed in the corner, the sentiment probably being would you lovebirds knock it off? Victor draped the coat over the both of them, and Yuuri leaned his head on his shoulder. They watched the fire calmly. “That was scary though.” Victor said, and slipped his hand into Yuuri’s. The motion was thoughtless, he had done it so much. “Don’t do that again.” He felt Yuuri’s cheek move in his shoulder as he smiled. “I’m not planning on it.”

I pause my shows a lot to get down these notes…then Crunchyroll or my internet (or both!) cursed me with regular buffering (that can sometimes play video and subs through it, but generally sets down a few seconds after unpausing and lasts for a minute) and made it a pain in the butt to make these notes. But you do realise I basically have notes for almost every show I’ve ever watched under this system? These notes are special to me, which is why I put up with the buffering. It also means impactful scenes lose their impact, meaning well-paced shows get favoured in my picking process on CR these days.

Another counterintuitive name for a sequel anime season…this is my last premiere before I wrap them up, or at least until Machikado Mazoku (or whatever) land on CR.

…and of course, it’s back to Big Boobies (aka Hestia). She’s probably the worst part of the show for me.

Why does Bell need an advisor anyway…? I never thought about it when watching s1.

Who’s this Naza-sama, anyway…?...Okay, it seems she’s a doctor from the Miach Familia. I don’t remember her from s1, really.

I’ve forgotten who Asfi is as well…Oh yeah, that blue-haired woman from the Hermes Famlia. Hermes seems like a bit of a loose cannon – the sort who wouldn’t have a Familia if given the chance – though.

I think we saw Freya in s1…just scheming behind the scenes…

Hermes looks like a sleazebag half the time he’s on screen…

I forgot how much I loved Miach’s character design in s1...and to a lesser extent, Takemikazuchi.

I didn’t think Tanjiro was scared of anything…excpt maybe losing Nezuko again.

Oh! I just realised Natagumo has a hint in its name…The “gumo” can be read “kumo”…as in cloud or spider, but it’s given with the kanji for spider so it can only be a spider-related problem on Mt Natagumo.

I’d hate to have Smellovision on this show…(What’s Smellovision, you ask??? Here, read up on it…at least, I was thinking of the Google variant, so read up on the Google version.)

Ukogi appears to be a type of plant known as eleutherococcus and ukogi rice is rice with ukogi leaves.

I find it funny Zenitsu just calls Inosuke “Wild Boar”. To be fair though, I don’t think Inosuke introduced himself to Zenitsu, way back when they were meant to.
