My (almost) 4 year old, started kindergarten a while ago. And kids started making fun because he's the only redhead in the class.

So i said to him: Your hair is beautiful, they're just jealous their hair is not as colorful as yours. But if you want to stop the jokes, you can always wear a hat.

The bullying stopped after my son yelled at everyone that they're jealous lmao, BUT, he started wearing hats by choice, and its perfectly fine, UNTIL, he starts a tantrum when i try to take it off to give him a bath or wash the hat (this happened too with a flash costume)
