Steve Harrington x HendersonSister!Reader Masterlist
Welcome to the Steve x HendersonSister! Universe! I have so many ideas for these two, and will probably never go through them all, but I wanted to keep them in one place! They will not be posted in chronological order, but I will list them here that way. Hope you enjoy!
Idiotic Decisions - Working on a project with douchebag Steve Harrington was not something you were looking forward to doing. However, youâre surprised to find that maybe heâs just a little less of a jerk than you thought. (Season 1)
Disappointed Revelations - After working on a school project together, you had actually started to believe that there was more to Steve Harrington than meets the eye. All of that changes after an interaction with Jonathan Byers. (Season 1)
The Evolution of Friendship - After Steve is attacked by Billy Hargrove, youâre shocked to find the guy still attempting to protect you as you two go into the hub to try and buy Eleven some more time. It makes you wonder. Are you and Steve Harrington actually ⊠friends? (Season 2)
Hold Me Tight - Ever since Prom, Steve and you had been growing closer to crossing that line from friendship to something more. During a hot summer day, a little more of that line gets crossed. (Before Season 3)
Conversations On Top of an Elevator - Well, your brother has gotten you and Steve into another mess, this time on top of a Russian elevator. While Steve stresses out, you reassure him that youâve gotten out of this shit before, you can do it again. (Season 3)
Saving Steve - Steve Harrington has already saved your life, so itâs time to return the favor. Little did you know that would feel a little less like an action movie and more like taking care of rowdy toddlers. (Season 3)
You Feel the Same? - The tension thatâs been rising between you and Steve all summer has finally been set to boiling after spending time trapped in Russian elevators together and overhearing his confession to Robin about the new girl he likes who sounds suspiciously like you. After everything, you donât care if it ends up burning you anymore. You just know you canât waste another second not being with him. (Season 3)
Those Three Little Words - 18+ ONLY. Steve gets upset when he finds a letter on your table from Indiana University, and it forces the two of you to confess something youâve been trying to say for a while now. (Before Season 4)
Reunions and Future Plans - For the first time in a long time, you and Steve havenât seen each other in three weeks since you started college. So he decides to surprise you. (Before Season 4)
Holding You to That - Steve Request. You go to get your boyfriend Steve from Family Video when Robin tells you youâre a distraction, and of course youâre not! Okay, maybe a little. (Before Season 4)
A Not So Good Day - Itâs Spring Break in Hawkins, and you can already tell that itâs going to be a great, relaxing time. Well, until you find out that your best friend might be dead and the gate to the Upside Down might not be as closed as you thought. (Season 4)
Finding Eddie - After a long day of trying to find Eddie, you, Steve, your brother, Robin and Max all find your way to Reefer Rickâs house where the time finally comes to tell the truth to your ex-best friend. (Season 4)
Watergate - Dustin has a theory that thereâs a new gate, and Nancy has a suspicion of where it might be. The best swimmer needs to go to the bottom of Loverâs Lake and check it out. Unfortunately, much to Steveâs displeasure, that happens to be you. (Season 4)
Travelin' Man - Well, you didnât love Eddieâs plan, but you also didnât see many other options. (Season 4)
Saving the World or Not - Steveâs gone off to fight Vecna while youâve stayed behind to distract the bats. What could possibly go wrong? (Season 4)

What is your favorite color, then?â And this is the beginning of your friendship with Steve Harrington.Â

-
November 15th, 1983
When Steve Harrington walks into Bookstrordinary your first day back, you think your lingering concussion from the monster is causing you to hallucinate.Â
You had been struggling to reshelf some books, your crutches being a burden and hard to balance with as you stack, when the bell above the front door alerted you of someoneâs arrival.Â
âWelcome to Bookstrordinary, how can I help youââ You place the last back in the shelf and turn around, not expecting who you see. âSteve?â
He smiles at you and shoves his hands in his bomber jacket. âHey, Y/N.â
âWhat are you doing here?â
âYou canât figure out my nickname if we donât hang out, right? So,â He shrugs, as if this is just another Monday for him. âIâm here.â
You stare at him for a moment, unsure what exactly to do. While you hadnât been lying when you told Steve that you guys could be friends, you hadnât expected him to jump at the opportunity so quickly. His eyebrow is still healing from his fight with Jonathan in the alley and youâre stuck with crutches for the next two weeks.Â
Wounds are still healing. You figured Steve would take some time to collect himself, but it appears that he simply doesnât care, or maybe it doesnât matter to him.
âHow did you know I even worked here?â You ask the boy, now making your way over to the front counter where he stands.
Steve chuckles. âYou really canât give me credit for anything, can you? I pay attention, Y/N. I can be observant.âÂ
âItâs not like that,â youâre quick to correct, scared that Steve will think you see him as some mean jock. âI just⊠Iâm not used to people paying attention to me, I guess.âÂ
You pause and make a face, not liking the way that sounds. âThat sounded incredibly gross and cheesy, huh?â
âNo, I understand.â Steve smiles and then points to the wall of comics behind you. âSo, if weâre going to be friends, I gotta ask about your Spider-Man obsession.â
âOh, now thatâs just too personal. This is like, day three of our friendship. At least ask what my favorite color is, first.â
Steve laughs again and nods. âAlright, fair. What is your favorite color, then?â
And this is the beginning of your friendship with Steve Harrington.Â
He spends almost two hours the first day at your job, asking you questions about yourself, your favorite food and color and animal, which genre of books you prefer, anything and everything he can think of to get to know you better, Steve asks it.
At first youâre unnerved by his onslaught of questions, but slowly you find yourself opening up to him and enjoying having Steve with you. He makes your last few hours of work bearable and fun. Before you know it, you begin asking him your own questions. You learn that he loves banana bread, secretly enjoys helping his mom around the house, and that blue is his favorite color.Â
When your coworker Alex walks in to take over the next shift and finds you leaning against the counter talking to Steve, he almost spits out the milkshake he had been drinking. âSâSteve Harrington?â
Steve tenses for a second and, before your very eyes, he morphs into his King Steve persona effortlessly. Youâre not sure what exactly he changes about himself, but he becomes more closed off, guarded, with an air of authority that frightens you a little. âHey, kid. Do I know you?â
Alex shakes his head, too stunned to speak.Â
âThatâs my coworker, Alex.â You take pity on the poor kid. Heâs only a year younger than you, but you suppose that a junior like Steve, someone well known and admired throughout the school, can be intimidating.Â
âNice to meet ya, buddy. Iâm assuming that Y/N here is off the clock now?âÂ
âYâyes.â Alex squeaks out.Â
The bell above the door rings again, this time announcing Jonathanâs arrival.Â
He walks in, distracted with some groceries in his arms, so when he finally looks up and sees you, Steve, and Alex all standing in a circle staring at him, he freezes. âWell, this is an interesting sight.â
Steve ducks his head, his King persona quickly fading away. âHey, Jonathan.â
âSteve,â Jonathan responds cooly, looking between you and him as if trying to figure out a complex math equation.Â
Great.Â
You clear your throat and step away from Steve, heading to the back of the store to collect your things and clock out. âJust give me a minute or two to grab my things, then Iâll be all set to leave, Jonathan.âÂ
He nods at you, still staring at Steve like heâs some foreign creature, and you quickly hobble away to avoid any interaction between them. Youâre not sure why having the two of them in the same room as you feels so wrong, but your head still aches from its concussion and your ribs are so bruised that breathing still hurts, so you really donât have the time to figure any of it out.Â
While youâre gone, Steve and Jonathan continue to stare each other down.Â
âPicking Y/N up?â Steve guesses, eyeing the keys in Jonathanâs hand and the groceries in the other.
âYeah, kinda something Iâve always done.âÂ
âRight.âÂ
Jonathan readjusts his grip on one of the grocery bags, having nothing better to do as he waits for you. Alex busies himself with rearranging some books at the counter, clearly equally as uncomfortable as the two teens are.Â
Steve lets a whistle out and awkwardly stuffs his hands into his pockets. Jonathan watches him in curiosity. The scab on his eyebrow has almost healed over, but Jonathan still gets a kick of pride seeing it. Heâd done that. Heâd marred King Steveâs handsome face.Â
âAre you, like⊠Y/Nâs friend now?â Asks Jonathan, the question heavy on his mind. He trusts your judgment of people, he knows you can read people better than anyone else, but having Steve around you makes him uneasy. The guy had been a grade A dick to you and him for years, especially his bullshit friends Carol and Tommy.Â
âWe made a compromise,â Steve says, a hint of humor in his voice.Â
Jonathan frowns. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âWellââ
âOkay, letâs go!â You walk back in, fearful of whatever conversation youâve interrupted.Â
Jonathan watches as Steve immediately turns to you, as if drawn in by your mere presence, and he starts to wonder exactly what the boyâs intentions are with you. All you did was walk into the room, and yet Steve is hanging onto your every word.
He doesn't blame him, god he doesn't. Itâs you. You could command a room with just your smile alone, but Jonathan isnât used to sharing that with others.Â
Especially not with people like Steve.Â
âWill you be working tomorrow?â Steve asks you, a twinkle in his eye.Â
You nod at him. âMhm, I work every day after school. On weekends Iâm usually home doing homework or keeping that one in check.â
You point at Jonathan, who laughs. âGuilty.âÂ
âThen Iâll see you at the same time tomorrow?â Steve doesnât even look over at Jonathan, which he rolls his eyes at.Â
âSee ya then.â You smile wide at Steve and for some reason Jonathan really wants to throw the bag of eggs heâs holding.Â
This was not what he had been expecting when he told you earlier heâd be picking you up after getting his mom some groceries.Â
And had someone told Jonathan that the rest of sophomore year would go on like this, he probably wouldâve thrown the bag of eggs at Steve then.
âÂ
True to his word, Steve comes by and visits you almost every day leading up to winter break. He becomes a regular, hanging around the counter talking to you about anything and everything. The first few days you had been a bit nervous that your boss, Mrs. Waters, would have a problem with him, but she quickly dispelled your concerns.Â
âOh, that handsome young man? He can stay as long as he likes. I think heâs the reason weâve been getting so many young customers recently.â
You look around and realize that, yeah, there is in fact a new group of freshmen girls who have started stopping by and browsing the romance section. Youâve noticed the way they stop and stare at Steve while he talks to you, whispering and giggling to themselves.Â
Steve pays them no mind, always too busy talking about basketball or his latest issue with Nancy.Â
Thatâs been the one downside to all of this, really.
Youâre happy the two of you are friends, but between Jonathanâs moaning about the girl and now Steveâs worrying that heâll never be good enough, youâre kinda sick of talking about Nancy Wheeler.Â
Which is a shame, you actually quite admire the girl.Â
âAnd today she looked at me in the hallway and I think she even smiledââ
âSteve,â you interrupt him, a headache forming. âLike Iâve told you a million times now, she needs some time. Itâs only been a few weeks, I think sheâs still recovering from what happened at Jonathanâs. She also lost Barb, you canât forget that.â
You donât tell Steve about the whole Jonathan and Nancy situation, partly because it isnât your place, and partly because youâre not sure if it will do more harm than good.Â
The boy nods, looking crestfallen. âYeah, youâre right. I just⊠I want to get this right, ya know?â
âI know, and you will. Just⊠let her come to you, but also show that youâre still there for her. Does that make sense?â
âYes. Got it. Stay at a distance, but in a smooth way.â
You snort. âNot how I wouldâve phrased that, but sure.âÂ
You go back to counting the change in your register, beginning the early stages of closing up for the night. Jonathan will be here in about twenty minutes, youâve come to learn that if you distract Steve when heâs here, then thereâs fewer awkward interactions.Â
Youâre hoping that once Nancy figures out which boy she wants that you can then all be friends, but until then youâre stuck with being an uncomfortable middleman who just wants to drive home with you best friend in peace after spending a lovely evening with your new and endearing friend.Â
Speaking of your new and endearing friend, Steve begins to tap his fingers against the countertop, fidgeting around. Amongst the many things youâve learned about Steve these last few weeks, youâve also learned that he absolutely hates silence and standing still.
âOkay,â you place your hand over his fingers, stopping his tapping. âIâm going to start closing, how about I give you a list of the books and comics I need to bring home with me? Itâll make closing go by faster.â
Steve perks up, happy to be given something to do. âAlright, I can do that. What are they for, though?â
âMost of the comics will be for the boys; it'll be their Christmas gifts. The rest, the books mostly, will be for myself. I like to add them to my bookshelf at home.âÂ
âNo way,â Steveâs eyes light up and he leans in close, a teasing smile on his face. âAm I about to get a look into Y/N Hendersonâs mind?â
You shoo him off your counter, grabbing your crutches to start restocking books for tomorrow. Steve follows close behind, carefully watching your steps to make sure you donât fall. âI wouldnât be too happy, I doubt youâd be able to figure out which comics are for me and which are for the kids. As for the books⊠well, guess Iâll have to make you sign a contract stating our friendship is legally binding. Canât embarrass myself.âÂ
âIâd gladly sign it,â Steve says, without even hesitating.Â
You stumble a bit and heâs quick to steady you. Steve does that sometimes, says things that make you feel like you feel hazy and warm. Too warm. Youâre not used to his candidness yet; Steve doesnât hide how heâs feeling, heâs an open book.Â
Youâre not sure if his open vulnerability is a good thing, but youâre slowly starting to find it nice. Pleasant, almost.Â
âAnyways,â you shake your head, trying to clear your mind and ignore whatever cologne Steve is wearing that makes your head spin. âThe list is in my backpack by the counter. Grab it and start hunting, soldier.âÂ
Steve salutes you and does as heâs told. In no time heâs wandering the bookstore, humming to himself as he skims the many shelves and aisles to find everything you need. You busy yourself with your own job, arranging a new shipment of books so that Alex has a calm opening shift the next morning.Â
The freshmen girls have long since left, leaving you and Steve alone. Mrs. Waters is somewhere in her office, probably seeing if thereâs any way to hire Steve, and itâs nice being alone with him. The two of you work silently side by side, he diligently works on his task and you canât help but sneak a few glances when heâs not looking.Â
Steve Harrington has always been attractive, you canât deny that, but learning this gentler and nerdier side of him has only increased his attractiveness tenfold. Pair him with Nancy and itâs no wonder the two of them were such a hit at school. They make a beautiful pair, something you almost envy.Â
Just as youâve finished stacking the last of the new shipment, the bell rings in the store. You look up, seeing Jonathan, and feel yourself smile. He looks more tired today, though you suppose itâs because heâs basically become the kidsâ chauffeur now that heâs no longer working. He claims that he doesnât mind, but you know he secretly wishes you were there to help.Â
âRough day, bee?â
He nods, walking over to you and places his head against your shoulder, letting out a dramatic groan. âDustin insisted I drive them to the quarry to reenact Willâs body being retrieved. It was morbid, and yet⊠Kinda funny.â
âIâŠâ youâre speechless, in complete disbelief. âThose boys are horrible, I love their freakish little brains.âÂ
âWhatâd they do now?â Steve appears, a giant stack of comics and books in his arms. âHey, Jonathan.â
âSteve,â
You gently remove Jonathan from your shoulder and face Steve. âThey reenacted Willâs dead body being found in the quarry. A typical Friday afternoon, really.â
Steveâs jaw drops, equally as speechless as you were, and you and Jonathan laugh at him. âThey sound insane.â
âIf weâre going to be friends, you really gotta get used to the boys.â You tell him with a shrug.Â
Jonathan walks over to the counter and grabs your backpack, then goes to Steve and holds it open, motioning for him to place all the comics and books in there. âSheâs right, you know.â
Steve lets a chuckle out, a hint of nervousness mixed in with delight as he drops your stuff in the bag. âI know, sheâs always right. Thatâs what scares me.âÂ
You blush and leave the boys on their own to go inform Mrs. Waters that youâre closing up. You hear them start whispering to each other as you leave, and you make a mental note to badger Jonathan about it on the drive home. While youâre relieved they seem to be getting along tonight, you absolutely cannot have them forming an alliance against you. Theyâd lose, of course, but still.
âÂ
Winter break comes and you spend the first half of it with your family and the Byers. Your mom has slowly started letting you out the house again. When you came home with a sprained ankle, crutches, and bruised ribs, sheâd almost fainted. You were promptly placed under house arrest, only allowed out for work and school, but you didnât mind.
It takes some pleading, you manage to convince her to allow you to bike to the Byersâ on Christmas to deliver your treats for them. When she agreed, you were giddy, finally having some time to yourself.Â
Though itâs snowing, you enjoy the beautiful serenity of it all. The layer of white, untouched and pristine, falling around the pine trees like a blanket tucking you in after a long day, makes you smile.Â
Itâs always so lovely seeing Will and Joyce and you wish you could stay longer, but your mom had been firm when she told you to be back within the hour, so you deliver the cookies and bid your farewells before Jonathan drives you home.Â
After your conversation, making him promise that things will always remain the same between you two, the car ride is silent once more. Youâre okay with this, finding that youâve come to miss your comfortable silences with Jonathan. Theyâve become few and far between ever since Willâs reappearance. Youâve both been busy attending to him and the boys, trying to make everything as normal as possible again.
When Jonathan pulls into your driveway, you unbuckle your seatbelt and lean over to kiss his cheek, but he stops you. âHold on, I figured weâd do our gift exchange early this year.â
You gasp. âDid you plan this?â
For years now, you and Jonathan have given each other your gifts the day after Christmas so that itâs just the two of you, no one else, experiencing the moment. You love the tradition, itâs become your favorite part of Christmas.Â
âMaybe,â he laughs, wrapping around his seat to get to the back. He pulls out a small box thatâs so poorly wrapped, you know he did it all by himself. âHere, open it.â
âBut your gift is inside, I didnâtââ
âShush and open the gift, damnit.â
âHow sweet,â you tease, but eagerly begin tearing at the wrapping paper. Jonathan has always given you the most obscure and wonderful gifts, every year he somehow manages to surprise you. You tear off the last piece of wrapping paper and open the small box, gasping when you see whatâs inside. âJonathan⊠you didnât.â
Inside the box is a beautiful silver necklace. The chain itself is simple, itâs the pendant attached to it that takes your breath away.
Dangling from the necklace is a bee, no bigger than a centimeter or so.Â
Thereâs small diamonds in its wings and the necklace itself is minimal, something youâd only notice if you were paying attention, and itâs the most precious gift youâve ever been given. You touch it delicately, the metal cool against your fingertips.
Jonathan gives you a boyish smile. âFigured we could match.â
âWhatââ He raises his right hand and for the first time you notice a ring on his index finger. You gasp again and snatch his hand, bringing it closer to your face so you can get a better look. The ring has a thick silver band, and there, in its center, is a ladybug as small as your bee. The ladybug is all silver, its wings integrated through the ringâs band. âJonathanâŠâ
âDo you like it? I found the jewelry at a garage sale this summer. Came as a pair,â Jonathan wraps the hand youâre inspecting around your own. âAlmost like fate knew Iâd find it for us, ya know? Bug and bee, you and me.â
You have so many things you want to say, but the words are stuck in your throat and all you want to do is grab Jonathan and pull him in and never, ever let him go. âYouâve had the jewelry for months?â
âHardest secret Iâve had to keep from you, honestly.â
You laugh and cry and kiss Jonathanâs cheek a million times. âThank you, thank you, thank you.â
Things are finally starting to feel alright again. Here the two of you are, parked in your driveway in Jonathanâs rundown car, off in your own little world for the first time in months. Itâs just the two of you, no one else, with only the falling snow as your company.Â
You couldnât be happier. You feel complete again, whole, with Jonathanâs pinky promise from earlier as your oath.Â
âI feel bad,â you say as Jonathan walks you to your door. âFor Christmas all I got you were cassettes. Had I known you were being sentimental this year I wouldâve given you a lock of my hair or something.â
Jonathan laughs, and the sound doesnât hurt you as much as it used to.
âÂ
Working the day after Christmas has always been your favorite shift. No one ever comes in, itâs always just been you, your books, and your comics for five blissful hours.
Somehow, you shouldâve known that Steve would stop by anyways.Â
Youâre admiring your new necklace in a mirror when he walks in, all bundled up due to the flurry of snow thatâs encasing Hawkins.Â
âHow do you always manage to know when Iâll be working?â You ask him in lieu of a greeting.Â
Steve unzips his coat and hangs it up. âA magician never reveals his secrets, Y/N.â
âBoring, I say they should.âÂ
âWell,â he walks over with both hands behind his back, hiding something, which you raise your eyebrows at. âInstead of my secrets, can we compromise on revealing a gift instead?â
You gape at him. âPlease tell me you didnât.â
âOh, I did.â
âSteve! I didnât even get you anything, I hate being empty handed! This is literally my worst nightmareââ
Steve places the box on the counter with a devilish smile on his face. âJust shush and open it, Y/N.âÂ
âButââ
âOpen it.â
You sigh, very much against this entire thing, but curiosity gets the better of you. Steve has only been your friend for barely a month now, what could he have possibly gotten you? The wrapping is well done, vastly neater than Jonathanâs had been, which you comment on.Â
Steve blushes. âMy mom sorta helped me wrap it.â
Something warm settles in your stomach at the idea of Steveâs mom helping him wrap his gift for you. âTell her that I admire her tasteful wrapping skills.â
Steve chuckles and tells you he will, but heâs too focused on watching you slowly unwrap the gift. Inside is a rectangular box, thin but sturdy, and you look up at your friend curiously. âWhatâs this?â
âOpen it and see.â Steve says, giving you a duh look.Â
You roll your eyes at him but lift the boxâs lid and almost scream when you see whatâs inside.Â
Steve anxiously studies your reaction, seeing the way your eyes widen comically and you throw your hands over your mouth to stifle a scream. Youâre practically jumping up and down in your excitement to hold the framed poster up, and he feels relief wash over him. You seem to love the gift, he finally did something right.Â
âHow the fuck did you get this?â You exclaim, studying the incredible details on the poster. Itâs the cover of the very first edition of Spider-Man, Amazing Fantasy #15. You eyes scan over it and notice scrawled handwriting next to Spider-Manâs leg. âNo, oh my god.â
âNotice anything special about it?â Steve leans against the counter with his arms crossed, a pleased smile on his face.Â
âItâs signed? By Stan fucking Lee?â
âYup.â
You run out from behind the counter and engulf Steve in your arms. Heâs stiff against you, having not expected such a reaction, but you donât care. You bury your face in his chest and squeeze him, trying your best to exude your immense gratitude. âThank you,â
Steve slowly relaxes into the embrace and wraps his arms around you, gently patting your back. âMy dad knows a guy⊠Thought youâd like it.â
âI love it, Steve.â You whisper, your words muffled by his sweater.
Youâre still wrapped in his arms, standing toe to toe with him, and youâre so happy it almost hurts. Steveâs arms are warm and strong and you feel him hesitantly rest his cheek atop of your head. He brings you in closer, secures his hold on you a little tighter, and you can smell that stupidly expensive and addicting cologne of his.Â
Steve is internally freaking out. Not only is he hugging you right now, but heâs surrounded by you. Your hair is against his cheek, your soft perfume overtakes his senses, and the sweater youâre wearing has Steve believing that everything about you is just warm and comforting and lovely. He wants to pull you in deeper, pull you into him, even.Â
Heâs never been hugged like this before, so openly and with such sincerity.Â
He doesnât want this moment to end, honestly.Â
Then your boss comes through the front door. âWell, hello there, children.â
You donât necessarily pull away from Steve, letting an arm linger around him so that you can face your boss. âHello, Mrs. Waters. We were just wrapping up, then weâll be out of your hair.â
She waves you off, winking, and scurries over to her office. âOh, donât mind me! Carry on!â
You and Steve laugh, no ounce of tension between you. He seems carefree as always, and you have to refrain from pulling him into another hug. You look up at him, still toe to toe, so your head almost butts against his chin. âI sort the books, you stack?â
He smiles down at you. âDeal.â
âÂ
Winter becomes spring and somehow you manage to finish sophomore year without any further problems. Jonathan remains by your side, Steve continues to visit you at work, and you even strike up a tentative friendship with Nancy.Â
It was hard at first, especially after she got back together with Steve, but Jonathan seemed to do well at burying down his feelings and insisted that the four of you could make things work, so you do.Â
Nancy is a joy to be around when you forget about the fact that Jonathan is hopelessly in love with her. Sheâs incredibly intelligent, cunning, and a great chemistry partner. Following the events of Will, you and her discover that by studying together, Kaminskyâs exams arenât too difficult.Â
You often study together in the library while Jonathan sits across the table doing his own work. Slowly, Steve begins to join in as well. He usually spends your study sessions cracking jokes and bugging Jonathan, but after a while even he breaks down Jonathanâs stoic demeanor and strikes up their own hesitant relationship.Â
Itâs not perfect, thereâs still some underlying tension between you, Nancy, and Jonathan, but itâs enough.
Plus, itâs useful having Steve around whenever Jonathan and Nancy slip off into their own world. Itâs become inevitable, something youâve come to accept, but at least you can turn to Steve now and roll your eyes together.Â
Itâs really nice, actually.Â
He eases the sting of losing Jonathan, even if he doesnât realize it. Makes everything more bearable.
Summer comes and you donât see Nancy as often, but Steve makes sure to visit your job whenever possible.Â
One day he comes in looking nervous and doesnât do his usual greeting. He doesnât wave, doesnât flash you his signature smile, he just walks straight towards the counter with a frightened look on his face. âI need your help.â
You put the book youâd been reading down and immediately feel dread overwhelming you. Something is happening again, all those contracts you had to sign by Hawkins Lab are coming back to bite you in the ass. Will is in danger again. âIs everything okay?â
He must see the terrified look in your eyes and he quickly reassures you. âOh, no itâs nothing serious, I just⊠I need your help with something.â
âHoly fuck,â you let out a breath, feeling your heartbeat start to return to normal. âDude, after the whole monster fiasco, can we use some discretion when it comes to asking for help?â
âRight, sorry.âÂ
âItâs fine⊠So, whatâs up?â
Steve looks around the store to ensure no one is listening, which you find a bit odd, but whatever. He leans in close and whispers, âI need your help finding a gift for Nancy.âÂ
âA gift?â
âYeah. Itâll be six months with her soon and I just, I donât know. I want to be a good boyfriend and get her something sheâll like. But I donât know what sheâd like, Iâm the worst gift giver ever.â
You frown. âThatâs not true. The poster you got me is hanging in my room as we speak.â
âThanks, Y/N. But Nancy is different, sheâs⊠Sheâs still really shaken up about Barb and I want to make it up to her. Cheer her up, ya know?â Steve fiddles with his sunglasses, youâve never seen him so closed off and guarded before.
âOkay, well. What did you have in mind?â
âSomething sheâll love.â Steve thinks for a moment. âA diamond necklace, maybe?â
âOkay, woah.â You put your hand up to slow down Steveâs frantic ideas. âI know you mean well, but Nancy is like. Pretty well off. She can afford her own diamond necklace, but besides that, sheâs not a very materialistic girl. She wouldnât like a necklace.â
Steve sighs. âYouâre right. Thatâs um, actually why Iâm here.â
âOh?â Youâre intrigued now.Â
âNance has been going on and on about this news article that came out recently. Something about politics, or maybe the weather?â You stare at Steve, urging him to get to the point. âSorry, doesnât matter. Okay, basically I know she likes journalism. And you work at a bookstore, soâŠâÂ
âYou want to get her some books on journalism?â You ask, your heart clenching. Hereâs this guy, Steve fucking Harrington, who is gorgeous and kind and shyly asking you for book advice for a girl he so dearly loves.
Somehow you envy Nancy Wheeler even more than you already do. She really does have it all, and you canât even begrudge her for it. Sheâs genuinely a nice person, itâd be easier to hate her if she was horrible, but she isnât.
Typical.Â
âIs that dumb? Actually, you know what, now that Iâm saying it out loud it sounds stupidââ
You grab Steveâs hand, interrupting him. âHey, no. Itâs actually a really sweet idea. I think⊠I think sheâll really love it.â
Steve looks relieved and you canât help but pity him. Heâs trying so hard to be better for Nancy, to be all she wants him to be, and yet just yesterday you had to break up a weird staring contest between Nancy and Jonathan when youâd been at her place picking up Will and Dustin.Â
Your heart aches for this boy, so in love with a girl youâre afraid may love your best friend.Â
You guide Steve over to the journalistic section of Bookstrordinary and tell him some of your personal favorites. Itâs not your favorite genre, but youâre familiar enough with it to give Steve a good starting point, which heâs immensely grateful for.Â
âYouâre a lifesaver, Y/N.âÂ
âWhat can I say? Itâs a talent of mine.â
Steve starts to search through the books and you leave him alone to get back to work. Itâs a slow day today, the mid July heat seemingly keeping everyone at home, so you spend most of your time watching Steve. He meticulously goes through each and every book, spending almost three hours reading their synopses over and over again to ensure that he finds Nancy the best book.Â
Occasionally he mumbles to himself, shaking his head when a book doesnât fit quite right with what he has in mind, or exclaiming with glee when he finds the perfect one. Slowly he accumulates his own little pile of books before he brings them over to you.Â
He places the stack on your counter with a proud smile on his face. âIâll take these, please.â
You whistle at the pile. âThink itâll be enough?â
âDo you think I need more?â Steve asks, fear in his voice.Â
âIâm kidding, Steve. This is more than enough; itâs perfect.â
You start ringing the books up and Steve leans against the counter, back into his usual stance at your job. The price racks up quickly, but youâre sure itâs no problem for someone like Steve. In total heâs selected six books for Nancy, and with each book you scan you feel more tugging at your heart.Â
He deserves better, but he wouldnât listen to you if you told him.Â
âThanks again, by the way.â Steve breaks the silence.Â
âFor what?â
âFor helping me. Youâve always been so patient with me, wellâI donât know. Itâs nice.â Steve rubs the back of his neck, sheepish.Â
You find yourself blushing as well, his words making you uneasy as always. âItâs nothing, Steve. Weâre friends, what else am I supposed to do?â
âWell, Iâve never really had any friends before. Iâm still new to this.â He confesses, looking away.Â
Again your heart aches for the boy. Here King Steve is, admitting to you that heâs never really had any friends before. You canât imagine what that must be like, being so loved by a crowd of admirers yet isolated because of it.Â
You think about Tommy Hagan, Carol Perkins, and the various people who seemed to flow in and out of Steveâs inner circle of friends. The numerous girls he never stayed with for long, the boys who only used him for his popularity, you never considered how exhausting that all mustâve been. Surrounded by all, yet loved by none.Â
Hell, even with Nancy, Steve has confessed to you that he feels like heâs too much for her sometimes.Â
âYouâre a great friend, Steve.â You reassure him, trying to keep your voice level. You know that any hint of pity will only make him feel lesser than, but you really wish you could make him believe you. Steve Harrington has somehow become your favorite person to be around. âI promise, youâre a natural when it comes to friendship.â
Steve smiles. âYou think so?â
âI know so. In fact,â you finish ringing Steve up and deduct your employee discount from his total, dropping the price significantly. âI just gave you my employee discount because thatâs what friends do and I know youâll do the same for me one day. That is, if you ever get a job.âÂ
He puts his hands in the air. âHey, the way I see it: why get a job when I donât need one?â
âSuch wise words from a rich kid.âÂ
âWhat if the rich kid offered to buy you dinner to repay you?â Steveâs tone is teasing, but thereâs openness in his eyes that makes you freeze. He wants you to say yes, heâs almost pleading with you to accept his offer with those big brown eyes that make you want to scream.
You want to say yes, to accept his offer and go out to dinner with him and laugh and tease each otherâs food choices and feel like the only two people to exist in Hawkins, but you canât.Â
Steve is looking at you with a softness in his eyes that catches in the July afternoon light, and you see the shift. Itâs subtle, but itâs there. Heâs looking at you as if heâd do whatever you asked, without any hesitation, because he cares about you in a way that no one quite has before.Â
Sure, youâve noticed it before through his actions, but seeing the deep fondness behind his eyes is something entirely different. You feel this flutter within your chest and you feel heat rise to your cheeks. Heâs looking at you as if youâre holding the goddamn sun, and you canât do it.Â
You canât tell Steve yes.Â
Heâs Nancyâs. So is Jonathan.Â
You canât develop feelings for yet another guy that Nancy Wheeler has claimed for herself.Â
You donât love Steve, but you know how easily you could fall for him. With him, everything is easier. Your laughs feel freer, your heart a little lighter. With Steve, it feels like youâre coming home after being away for so long. First uncertain of what youâve left behind, but then so full of love once youâre embraced with open arms as if no time has passed.Â
It would be so easy falling in love with Steve.Â
Thatâs why you tell him no.Â
âI canât.â You finally say. It takes everything within you to get the words out, as if your body is physically unable to break Steve Harringtonâs heart. But you have to.Â
Steveâs smile drops. âOh, alright.â
You wrap up the last of the books for Nancy, take the cash from Steve, and then inform him that you have a lot of work to do before closing. âYou should leave.â
âAlready?â He looks so hurt and you want to just kiss his cheek, whisper how lovely he is.Â
But heâs too lovely. Too selfless towards you. Too kind and charismatic and easygoing.Â
Heâs too much for you, but not in the way that plagues him with fear of rejection.Â
Heâs too much for you because of how easily you could embrace him entirely, how willing you are to make room for him even if you already know thereâs plenty of space for him regardless.Â
âYeah,â you busy yourself with a meaningless pile of books. âJust go home, give Nancy those books.â
The words burn your tongue almost as much as your tears burn your eyes.Â
But you remind yourself of Jonathan, of how much it hurts to hear him say Nancyâs name like a prayer. How Steve describes her as if sheâs the moon and heâs a lowly astronomer tasked with studying her.Â
You canât keep putting yourself through this hurt.Â
It isnât fair to yourself, and for once you need to be selfish.Â
Steve leaves, mumbling a soft goodbye, and you vow then and there to push him away. Youâve gotten too used to his company; you came too close to falling in love with yet another person who couldnât possibly ever love you back.Â
So you limit your interactions with Steve.Â
Youâre dismissive when he comes to your job the next day, then the next, and the next. He seems hurt at first, asking you if heâs done anything wrong, why youâre icing him out, but eventually after a few weeks he seems to let it go.Â
Youâre thankful for that. For his ability to read you and understand that thereâs something more, you just canât tell him.Â
July turns to August and Steve stops coming by Bookstrordinary.Â
You go back to only spending time with the boys or Jonathan, rarely ever Nancy. You donât see much of Steve, and sometimes it feels like last November never happened. Like he never came into your life and flipped it completely upside down. The only reminder that it had been real is the poster that hangs on your wall, taunting you for your cowardice.Â
Jonathan notices your change in demeanor, missing Steve more than you thought you would, but you make up some lie and change the topic. You know itâs for the better. It has to be for the better. And yet it feels like youâve just lost something incredible. Something that couldâve been everything, an almost that youâll never quite understand.Â
But you refuse to fall in love with Steve Harrington.Â

Bridgerton season 2 episode 3, âA Bee in Your Bonnetâ is âšmagicâš and let me tell you why.
For those of us who didnât read the book and knew nothing of what was going to happen, we truly went on an incredible and surprising roller coaster of an experience.
We start the episode with seeing the guy from Hellboy and being like âoh yay, itâs the guy from Hellboy!â
⊠only for him to die three minutes later. And that scene is rough. Itâs sudden and abrasive. And the sounds are jarring. The death is scored by tense strings. Then a moment of quiet. Then the AMAZING Ruth Gemmell begins taking us on Violetâs traumatic grief journey, which starts with her jolting Anthony (and us) out of the quiet.
And a thunderous heartbeat threatens him as he walks toward this entirely altered, unwanted life path. And thatâs obviously the beginning of his PTSD.
In the other flashbacks throughout the episode, we continue to hear horrific, heart-rending pain radiate out of Violet while Anthony must not only attempt to endure it, but cover his own grief. Anthony and his siblings (and again, we the audience) all have to listen to Violet grieve while sheâs giving birth! Screams on top of screams.
And the last flashback is technically quiet, but just as devastating because, like the moment of Edmundâs death, the quiet is weaponized. It signifies the death inside Violet.
It should go without saying that Jonathan Bailey is also a brilliant actor, but Iâll say it now anyway. Damn, he good! He and Ruth partnered perfectly in this grief journey. Serious props to them both because I felt this shit.
And then finally we come to the end. We had been immersed in the horrible aftermath of that striking tragedy. Between the flashbacks- in the present day- we had followed Anthony through the rooms and grounds where he had suffered silently. We had seen Edmundâs grave. We had learned that Anthonyâs greatest fears and insecurities all stemmed from that tragic event ten years prior.
And then another fucking bee comes along.
And I swear to god, the first time I watched this, when Kate got stung, my heart was pounding, I was terrified, and my instinctive reaction was âoh my god, is she going to die?!â In hindsight, itâs obviously insane to think that she would be killed off at all, let alone in this scene. But the very fact that, for a moment, that was a legitimate fear I had is exactly why this episode is so god damn brilliant. I felt what Anthony felt. And Iâm not the only one! Iâve seen other peopleâs similar reactions to this scene. The episode really is a roller coaster; easy, lighthearted moments (pall mall, drug tea), interspersed with the terrifying drops and loops that are Anthonyâs painful memories which constantly haunt him. And then it brought us right back to that first traumatic moment. Because Anthony has PTSD! And thatâs what PTSD does. Anthony is right back where he was, literally not far from the same spot outside Aubrey Hall, standing in front of a person he loves, watching them get stung by a bee on almost the same spot on their body. The tense string scoring comes back and Anthony panics because heâs completely helpless again.
And all of those elements- the setting, the scoring, the acting- combined to terrify us and make us forget something critical: most people donât die from beestings.
And hereâs where it gets really profound for me. Because itâs not just about how we feel Anthonyâs fear. Itâs also about how Kate completely obliterates it. Without knowing that history and without realizing the full extent of what her actions would mean, she does exactly the right thing. Rather than die and rather than also panic or shy away from his vulnerability, she meets it with her own in the form of care and steady assurance, which is true strength. And in so doing, she stops this cyclical moment in its tracks and completely alters the trauma. She puts his hand on her heart, and the heartbeat comes back. But this time, itâs not threatening. Itâs inviting.
And just like in the first scene, the moment is over all too quickly. Just like in that scene, Anthony is thrust onto a new path. But where that moment was damaging, this one is healing. And we feel that too. And itâs the greatest experience that art can give us.
Itâs catharsis.
And thatâs why this episode is magic. đâš
#this ep is the reason iâm insane about this show#i love a cathartic experience#please watch it and really listen bc the sound mixing is so important#a bee in your bonnet#kanthony#anthony bridgerton#kate bridgerton#kate sharma#violet bridgerton#edmund bridgerton#bridgerton#2x03#netflix#ruth gemmell#jonathan bailey#simone ashley#rupert evans#obsessive bridgerton things

What I donât understand is the people saying if byler is endgame it came out of nowhere but I argue that Joyce and Hopper could also be seen as out of nowhere. If you just look at Jopper scenes from s1-s3 thereâs not that much to indicate that they liked each other they couldâve stayed friends and their relationship wouldnât have changed. Donât get me wrong I like them together a lot. They care about each a lot. They are a good team. Iâm just arguing the point that itâs so easy to show a straight relationship off of seemingly little to indicate romance. Show two people of opposite gender as friends who care deeply about each other and then have one ask the other out and the GA is always on board every time but give a same sex relationship where there are multiple scenes in multiple seasons to build this romance narrative and people just donât see it or think their better off friends or the worst is that itâs fan service. Mike staying by Will side all of season 2 (paralleling Jonathan staying with Nancy which everyone easily took as building their romance). Mike pushing away Will season 3 only to run after him the second he upsets him (in contrast to how Mike was floundering for so long trying to figure out how to say sorry to El). Season 4 Mike is just a gay disaster at the airport (his whole interaction with Will makes zero sense if itâs not to show Mikeâs inner feelings for Will) and their fight at the rink with Mike harping on the romantic undertones to what Will was saying. Tye comparison to Mikeâs conversation with El where he was defensive to his conversation with Will where he was responsible and apologetic The whole van scene with the painting. It all just add up and itâs sad that people canât see it and just say weâre delusional because itâs two guys. If Will was a girl it wouldâve been obvious when Mike held Willâs hand all the way back in season two. That wouldâve been enough for people to see it.
yes to all of this!
it is unfortunate that some people are so blinded by heteronormativity and homophobia. you're totally right about joyce and hopper. everyone wanted them together just based on how they care for each other and their endearing banter, but mike and will doing the exact same and more still isn't enough. it's just homophobia and it'll likely be 10x worse when the season comes out. that's why i'm hoping they do multiple flashbacks to mike and will in previous seasons and maybe even have vecna taunt mike with the fact that deep down he knows it's always been will. and it seems like they'll be doing that given that there's a flashback to 8 year old mike and will. hopefully that'll help sway some people and convince them that it's not just fan service and netflix diversity quota đ«€

STRANGER THINGS SEXUALITY HEADCANONS BECAUSE ITS MY GOOD RIGHT đŁïžđŁïžđŁïž + YAPPING!
I am so tired rn. I'm having a German exam on Friday and my ass is sitting here writing down shit for yall because WDYM I ACTUALLY HAVE PPL READING MY SHIT? TYSM FOR THAT BTW đ«¶đ«¶đ«¶ THIS WILL ALSO BE A SHIT TON OF YAPPING BTW!
~~â
Mike: Okay, so I guess atp we all know that this guy is just a closeted Homosexual. He tries so hard to hide the fact he's gay, he's failing miserably. And he is VERY confused by his feelings thorwards Will.
Will: Openly gay. I don't have to say anything else. We all know he is yearning for Mike. We all know he always had been.
Lucas: Bi. As a preteen he was kind of simping for a random basketball player. Later in life he realized that might've been a little more than just that.
Dustin: Straight Ally to bi-curious. He is pretty sure he is into girls but he prolly wouldn't say no to trying. ALSO CAN WE PLS APPRECIATE HIS AND SUZIES RELATIONSHIP? Bros live SO FAR away and try EVERYTHING to communicate with each other.
Eleven: I am actually SO TORN. I am 100% she is Asexual. Kissing, cuddling, holding hands, being cheesy is a 100% yes for her. But anything more is gross. Also I am a Lesbian El truther. Cuz Lesbian and Gay pairings are ALWAYS fun (Syd and Stan IANOWT). But also just because I personally think that she was just so incredibly attached to Mike, she didn't even rlly knew what love even means. Mike was the first boy her age she got to know. Ofc she had to be with him. Now the hard part. I am unsure wether Aromantic or Demiromantic El. I do belive in independent partnered El. BUT ELMAX. God they got me going FERAL. Either way she's on the spectrum!
Max: 100% Bi too. I love Lumax and Elmax, both is PERFECT. Max never thought about her sexuality much. She fell for Lucas, realized girls where cute too and just vibed with it. She and Robin probably had a talk about that when Robin outs herself. And they are very casual about it!
Suzie: Straight Ally! The sweetest and kindest soul. She will listen to everyone's pains and relationship struggles, sit there akwardly and then yap to cheer them up. She is probably bad with comforting. (Actually I just realized as I'm writing this that Autism makes sense for her! And now I'm HAPPY about that.)
Nancy: Bi panic in person. Her relationship with Steve was merely to fuck around (haha literally.) and be rebellious. Her relationship with Jonathan wad more and really serious. But you are on my blog and therefore you KNOW what I'm gonna scream for. RONANCE. After sorting things out with Jonathan, they both decided to part. She was akward around Steve but only because she started falling for his bestie. And god she loves Robin sm. She was so afraid of getting attached but SUPRISE SUPRISE. She did.
Jonathan: Straight Ally(???) I actually never thought much about him even tho from season 1-3 he was one of my ultimate favs. He just decided to be single for some time after Nancy and him broke up and he's happy about it. He goes back to California (after thinking about it for a long time because he wanted to be there for Will. But after Byler sorted it out he could leave peacefully.) Anyways, he and Argyle just keep vibin, he gets a photography job and maybe eventually after a break another girl.
Argyle: Pan. Oh GOD I LOVE HIM. I just know he and Jonathan did things when they were high. (Jonathan actually told Nancy and apologized like 500 times but she didn't mind a lot). He hooks up with random at times. Not in a bad way. He is a mindful person and makes sure everything is safe and protected. He has a few girlfriends from time to time. Some boyfriends here and there. Just happy to be there! He just wants someone who doesn't care about him being a stoner.
Steve: Bi panic in person #2. This man was convinced he was straight until he met Robin. She talked to much about herself that Steve probably realized at some point that guys are actually kind of hot. And some of his 'idols' where maybe small crushes. I am not OBSESSED with Steddie. But I don't hate them. I don't really care about them. But Steve will be happy, doesn't matter if a girl or guy!
Robin: Canon Lesbian. God I love the way she found out in rebel Robin. And over the time, when she grows closer with all of the party she eventually gets less closed up and pretty loose with the topic of her being a Lesbian. The second person she outed herself to was Nancy (under tears and sobs because she's so in love with her.) And then strangely enough Mike because she noticed the akward pining for Will and decided to talk some sense into him. Her first real crush and gay awakening was Tammy, which is canon. She liked Vicky in a way. It was a complicated in between after she met Nancy. But since she was with Jonathan, she tried to get rid off her thoughts with focusing on Vicky, But as the upside down got worse and she spend much more time with Nancy she was convinced she wanted her more. And luckily these feelings where mutual. Also rip Robin, you would love Chapell Roan and Billie Eillish.
Eddie: I think we all are convinced that he is gay. He cared about Chrissy but didn't know her close enough. He always liked boys and was okay with it. He immediately knew what Robin is and was honestly just vibing. He had a girlfriend (which made him realize he likes boys) and a secret boyfriend before. And once the party is so comfortable and Robin outed herself to all of them he followed to make her feel less akward which leads into everyone outing themselves. Because fruity people attract fruity people.
Vicky: I honestly don't know enough about her atp. I think she's Bi. Or maybe a little confused about all this esp when she met Robin? I like Rovicky. Not more than Ronance, but it's cute and I honestly only want Robin to be happy ):
Joyce: Straight Ally but like the biggest in history. She kissed Karen before (cuz I say so.) She always knew that Will was gay because of the way he interacted with Mike. She is so gentle and careful about it. Educating herself, asking questions if confortable. She just wants to protect. That's why she is also do incredibly nice to Robin, because she knew her parents won't give her unconditional love so someone has to.
Hopper: Straight Ally but very confused about everything. He doesn't get the whole lgbtq thing. But as soon as Will officially outed himself, Hopper made such an effort into educating himself to not say anything wrong. And when El outed herself he spit out a very smart sounding scientific definition and El giggled.
Murray: Gayest character in this show. Bro is like gayer than Will atp. He wanted Alexei. He loved him and sobbed for months straight. Thats it. A miserable sad gay man.
Special Guest: KAREN!!: I am very deep in this fandom since August 2023. ADHD does fun things and made me read too many things. And from all these times on Ao3, Tumblr, Pinterest or the part in Rebel Robin where Robin realized that everyone is just trying to fit into society and be perfect in a way, I've been growing VERY fond of the closeted Lesbian Karen headcanons. She liked girls so much, she know she did. And she decided to not embrace it or even try to. She just adapted into that sad tradwife life and decided to make everyone satisfied. She was very happy when Nancy brought home Robin and Mike brought Will. She is so proud of her children expressing themselves unlike her. Also how tf did she pick Ted? The laziest, stupidest and most gross mf ever???
So uhhh- Robin is projecting... If you have anything you want to see from me. If you want moodboards, drabbles, OS, headcanons or whatever, PLEASE REQUEST THEM. I'm so desperate. I do all Finn Wolfhard and Maya Hawke fandoms cuz that's my thing >:)

The Lady Whistledown Papers : 1x08 After the Rain (Part 2)
Welcome back, Gentle Readers, to The Lady Whistledown Papers, where Iâm taking an in-depth look at Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgertonâs character arcs and romance within the show Bridgerton!
For previous issues, follow tag : The Lady Whistledown Papers
This is going to be a very musical issue, guys ;)
Boxing Match
So. We're here at this boxing match where Will's going to face an ethical dilemma, Simon's going to be involved, Lord Featherington is going to face some consequences of his actions, and Anthony's going to fuck Siena against a wooden beam in the back.
And Colin... is going to sit and happily chat with Benedict in the background. Apparently, he's not in a moody mood over Marina anymore.
I like the top hats though. There are times when this show veers so far into fantasy that I don't necessarily recognize the 1800s. But the top hats feels very much like 1800s. And I appreciate that.
Well, this scene might not really have anything for me to meta but... I'll bring in a BTS thing...
youtube
Apparently, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Thompson, and Luke Newton spent Season 1 harmonizing this little tidbit and it makes me wish that Bridgerton was a musical, because these boys can sing, and this is absolutely delightful. I wish this was better quality and longer.
(Bringing it up here - because I think this was filmed around the time of this boxing match? The costumes look similar.)
Anyway... there should be more singing on this show. Just, there should. That's how I feel about that.
Speaking of more singing...
Family Time
Omg, it took me forever to find this gif.... But I wanted to use a gif here because I wouldn't be able to still Colin because he's moving so much. Anyway...
We've got one of our big family scenes again. And as I've said before, I've always liked these scenes because the family dynamics are always richly on display, and one of the aspects the show does really well. The interplay between all of the different storylines is great here, as each one kind of gets a little nod as they weave in and out of the scene.
So, let's talk about this almost blink-and-you-miss-it Polin moment.
Francesca is back in town, so are Simon and Daphne, and the family is in high spirits (since we're at the end of the season and wrapping this thing all up). And they get Colin to sing in a catchy little tune (which I'll get into in a moment). And, as much as Colin was sulking and in such a bad place in the previous episode, he's bounced back rather well. And while he's not over it (Colin, we're learning, seems to hold onto things -- and the Marina stuff isn't done yet), he's come back from the heartbreak rather quickly.
Which... I think really speaks to the nature of Colin's feelings more than anything -- as they weren't that deep. Do I think Colin cared for Marina? Yes. Do I think he got caught up in a grand fantstical romance? Yes. Do I think he actually loved her? No. Because as his family members mentioned in the previous episode -- he didn't really know Marina. He just liked the idea of her. And those shallower feelings are easier to bounce back from.
So, we have here a Colin who is in better spirits. And the thing that really sticks out to me in this scene is how young Colin looks. He's singing what's essentially a child's play song, like London Bridges or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Colin was pushing himself to be An. ADULT. But he's not fully there yet. And I feel like this scene kind of pushes Colin back to where he was at the start of the season. That sweet, charming young kid. Only he's not that anymore. Not really. Experiences do change a person.
Meanwhile, we have Penelope. She comes into this a little hesitantly. She's clearly there for Eloise. This is the first time we really see her in the family dynamic. Even though we don't see it -- it's implied that Penelope is often over there, and feels pretty comfortable being in the Bridgerton drawing room. She grew up there. She and Eloise's friendship formed there. And there she can be around Colin in an appropriate way. It is a home for her.
So, it's interesting that she comes into this room with that hesitancy. She takes a moment to watch Colin while he's singing - and I do believe in this moment she doesn't regret what she's done with Lady Whistledown. Because she's seeing Colin be happy again. Things are back to the way they were. And Colin feels like /her/ Colin again. And, oh, her longing look for him. Her love is always just radiating through her that it can't be contained.
There is also a small, little detail that I absolutely love. As she comes in, he's in the middle of a line, and his voice wavers and catches when he sees her. And I mean, not only does he see her - which is notable in that she's the girl who hides on the sidelines and doesn't get notice. But the sight of her is enough to catch him off guard. There's an unresolved tension there. And the moment acknowledges it, even if it can't address it.
Eloise, oblivious as usual, is going to jump in and steal Penelope away -- she's got news about Lady Whistledown. And the look of pure panic and terror on Pen's face as she worries that Eloise has discovered her secret...
But Eloise isn't there to unmask her, she's there to say that her sluething has brought her to the conclusion that Madame Delacroix is Lady Whistledown.
Penelope has a myriad of emotions that cross her face at this news. She's relieved that Eloise hasn't figured out her secret. But she's grateful that Eloise is on her and her family's side, and that Eloise's intentions are to have Lady Whistledown make a retraction to restore the Featherington name. It's an act of true friendship -- and Pen is so grateful that Eloise is her bff.
But also, there's a little bit of deflation there, too. It's a hard read, but the conversation takes a turn -- Penelope commenting on the fact that it's impressive that Madame Delacroix can run her business and be Lady Whistledown. And I'm not sure if it's out of a twinge of sadness that she can't tell Eloise that she is Lady Whistledown, or the fact that she's concerned that Madame Delacroix might be posing as LW, or just the fact that even if Penelope is rich -- Delacroix being able to live her life freely is a sad reminder that she can't.
Eloise loves the idea that Madame Delacroix can live life as she pleases, and aspires to be like her -- the unmarried and doing her own thing being the biggest appeals. But Penelope admits she can't be like that. She tells Eloise the fact that she has a sister who is a duchess will make it easier for Eloise to do whatever she likes -- including being a working, unmarried woman.
But Penelope isn't like that. Here she blames it on her family, and it's tattered reputation. Eloise can coast on her family's good fortune, but Penelope will always be fighting against her name and placement in society. But what is unsaid, too, is that while Penelope wouldn't mind making her own money (and, in fact, she already is), she does want to be married -- she does want love. And herein lies the comedy/tragedy of Penelope/Eloise friendship -- each has what the other one wants.
Of course, neither of these issues are going to be resolved here, so Eloise does something she doesn't even want to do with her siblings, and shares her chocolates, which brings a grin to Penelope's face. because they are good bffs.
And, of course, the ending moment is punctuated by the end of Colin's song, where he dissolves into a fit of laughter. And I just adore when Colin laughs, because he's such a sweetheart when he does.
But, okay, let's take a second and talk about the song -- which is called Now We Are Met. And, guys, I tried. I really tried. But I couldn't find much about this song, other than it was written by composer Samuel Webbe sometime during this era? There's not much to meta out of it -- other than it's a fun little song that you sing with your family around the piano, and it's usually done as a round. In case you're unfamiliar with rounds... here is a choir singing it (which, honestly, is really cool)
youtube
I would love to know the reason the show picked this particular song. Is it just a children's song that kids in the UK sing? Or is there some other meaning to it? I have no idea. Would love to hear from anyone who knows more about it - as I love discussing the use of music within story.
Yellow
Tying it to the boxing scene, Lord Featherington won a bunch of money, and now the Featheringtons aren't as badly off as they were - (even if society isn't that fond of them, still), and they're able to get bran new dresses for the Hastings' ball. Prudence is excited because she gets to let hers in. Phillipa finds hers to be perfect.
And... Penelope's is yellow.
It's such a great little comedic beat. (and, I mean, the bit with Portia telling Phillipa she can get married now that they can give her a dowry and Phillipa asking when it was lost is so hilarious. I'm so glad they pushed in on the comedy angle during Season 3.)
And, oh Penelope just isn't there yet -- she doesn't have the confidence to push against her mother's wishes. She doesn't have the power to let her clothes reflect the person she really is. She's still going to be that girl stuck in yellow, clinging to the walls of the ballroom for just a while longer. And that's okay. We've got a lot of great story to go!
And on that note, I'm going to end this musical based post with a cover Coldplay's Yellow -- a song, as you know, means a lot to this story, as we'll talk about a lot more come Season 3. :)

my PERSONAL OPINION on ro//nance:Â
so a disclaimer: feel free to ship whoever you want to ship. these are just my thoughts and my perspective on the explosion of ro//nance since season 4. itâs not my intention to condemn or tell anyone to stop producing their content, i just want to scream into the void before it festers.Â
your wish fulfillment is valid, but so is my opinion. so if thatâs not smth you want to see feel free to skip !!Â
diving straight in⊠i wanna talk about nancy wheeler.Â
to be clear: i donât hate nancy. i think she is headstrong and determined and knows what she wants. she sticks to her guns and definitely has the potential to be a truly good person. that being said, she is extremely selfish in canon.Â
from season 1, my interpretation of her is that sheâs infatuated with the concept of steve harrington and the status that he could bring. heâs a fantasy thatâs suddenly become attainable to the nerdy miss wheeler. of COURSE sheâs going to relish his attention.Â
note: i actually donât think anyone else except barb, mike, and steve himself, ever called steve an asshole. so . do with that what you will.Â
anyway, nancy and jonathan act like steve suspecting that nancy is cheating is SO unreasonable. which honestly? itâs not. catching your girlfriend alone in her bedroom with a guy who TOOK NONCONSENSUAL ILLICIT PHOTOS OF TWO UNDERAGE TEENAGERS⊠thatâs suspicious. perhaps his reaction wasnât the best, but heâs also like 17 years old and protecting himself the way he knows how to. and of course his friends arenât going to take that laying down either.Â
i donât know if any of the supporters of ro//nance have ever been cheated on, but itâs not just heartbreaking⊠itâs HUMILIATING. and such a hit to the self esteem. and i donât care what the circumstance is, unless itâs nonconsensual. cheating is cheating and i firmly believe that a cheater will always be a cheater.Â
in this case, itâs also reasonable for nancy to be pissed when she sees the movie theater because she didnât actually cheat at that time. both of them had bad reactions but they also both had good reasoning behind their actions.Â
YES steve called jonathan a queer, but keep in mind itâs a common insult in the 80s, especially with the AIDS epidemic going on. donât use modern standards to condemn him, but also donât excuse his behavior. YES he was wrong, but he grew (obviously what with his friendship with robin). and do you really think heâs not going to go for the throat when he thinks that jonathan slept with his girlfriend?Â
itâs a classic case of everyoneâs the asshole but everyoneâs not the asshole.Â
moving onto season 2. BULLSHIT. nancy was projecting. like she felt so guilty about barb and associated that night with the first time she had sex with steve, so she associated steve with barbâs disappearance/death. she was processing her trauma which is totally fine, but also not an excuse to treat steve like that. to be fair, drunk words drunk words.Â
what she forgot was that steve also experienced the same thing. maybe not the grief and loss that she felt, but itâs HIS house. he has to stare out at that pool every night and know that itâs a murder scene and a grave site. he may be processing his trauma by trying to forget and be a ânormal kid.â and thatâs fine.Â
and to be SO clear: they didnât technically break up. you could say that they did, or take that as your interpretation, but in my opinion theyâre not broken up until they have a conversation explicitly discussing ending things. couples fight all of the time. itâs not uncommon to want a little space afterwards before apologizing/making up.Â
so yes. nancy cheated. and she never thought about the consequences of her actions, especially regarding steve. imagine how he felt. in season 3, he admitted to being IN LOVE with her. and she called him bullshit and cheated on him. be so real, if this happened in real life, you wouldnât be as kind as steve. he stayed friendly with BOTH nancy and jonathan, and continued to babysit their brothers.Â
steve called himself a bad boyfriend, but did we ever see evidence of that? he was constantly wooing her and romancing her. like if she didnât want that, she could have communicated that throughout the YEAR they were together. the only possible way that steve could be a bad boyfriend was regarding their difference in trauma response. which is not being Bad. itâs having different personalities and perspectives. so ??? just a gripe.Â
SEASON 3âŠ. so YEAH nancy is selfish. her and jonathanâs job at the hawkins post ⊠like YES fight misogyny and feel infuriated because of your treatment. however, donât strong-arm jonathan into supporting you when he NEEDS that job. unlike miss picket fence upper middle class nancy wheeler, the byers donât have a lot of money. theyâre living on a single income and jonathan works too. like he doesnât have the ability to just drop the job. of course, he follows her in the end though. honestly, that only validates nancyâs perspective that sheâs always right and her crusade for whatever is righteous.Â
but she doesnât care about collateral damage. she never took into account jonathanâs feelings. she never took into account the effect this could have on future jobs. employers DO check references sometimes fyi. (also i KNOW that it was due to a lot of misogyny, but irl new hires are often the company mule. like she could have tried to work her way up. she hasnât even been working there that long, and she a high school student expects to be published within months?? just be a little realistic here)Â
i honestly commend her because sheâs bold and sheâs brave. she makes a GREAT reporter. but she makes a bad friend and a bad girlfriend. from what i observe, she takes things for granted and gives too much credit to herself. these are just character flaws and thatâs human to have flaws. itâs possible to be a good person and also do bad things. i actually like nancy a lot, but it has to be acknowledged that she rarely faces consequences for her actions, and has never been confronted with the fact that she constantly puts herself first with no regard for other people.Â
just a quick note for season 4 bc this is getting SO long: when nancy told steve he âalmost deservedâ to get shot in the face. okay bitch. now iâm mad. bc? what did he do? and like. tbh WHO deserves to get shot in the face. i donât care if it was supposed to be a flirty statement, it was SO out of pocket.Â
itâs also clear that nancy takes credit for steveâs âtransformation.â if iâm being honest, the only thing she really pushed him to do was to drop tommy and carol. STEVE made the decision to run back in to fight the demogorgon. STEVE made the decision to help dustin and fight the demo dogs. STEVE made the decision to stay behind to watch the kids while they stormed the lab. show me one instance where nancy influences his actions, and iâll acknowledge it, but i just donât see it. and i think she gives herself way too much credit. because she wasnât there by his side working through it with him. she was dealing with her own problems (which is okay), but she canât act like she completely transformed him and made him a heroic babysitter. think on that.Â
into my thoughts on ro//nance:Â
robin is steveâs best friend. sheâs not JUST his best friend. heâs her platonic soulmate. when they were conceived, they were a being with four arms and four legs. but they were Too Cunt and Powerful so they had to be separated. they are literally two parts of one soul.Â
now imagine: ur best friend admits heâs IN LOVE/HAS BEEN IN LOVE with his ex. and she broke his heart. that in itself already has me livid, but if i found out about the âbullshitâ spiel, i would have to start throwing punches.Â
i believe in season 4 that the reason why robin is so curious about nancy is because she wants to know what type of girl steve fell in love with. like whatâs so appealing about nancy that sheâs the only one he said he fell in love with? and i also believe she didnât know about the cheating at this time because NO WAY would she have been nice to nancy if she knew.Â
maybe you guys can forgive cheating, but i sure canât. and especially when it happens to my best friend⊠itâs over. like sorry i treasure my best friendâŠ.Â
reiterating that nancy isnât a bad person, but she just Doesnât work with robin. putting aside robinâs opinions, nancy fucking hates her LMFAO. like she is So cold to robin out of? jealousy (a cheater is a cheater is a cheater). so it only really proves me right that nancy doesnât actually care about the people sheâs with. does she think that flirting with steve is okay after playing around with his heart before? has she ever taken into account the fact that steve may have been healing or emotionally unavailable? did she ever consider how steve felt after they broke up?Â
robin did. and sheâs ride or die.Â
and a rebuttal to a post iâve definitely seen before: yes, lesbians do tend to have a small dating pool which leads to a lot of friends dating exes. (i, a lesbian, have experience with this). HOWEVER, a cheater is different. because you have to acknowledge that a lot of lesbians stay friends with their exes. steve and nancy are AT BEST friendly in canon. if you would date someone who cheated on their friend, FULL OFFENSE, youâre not a good friend. thatâs just a fact.Â
youâre not only completely disregarding their experience, but youâre also forcing them to be in the same space as someone who betrayed them. and thatâs more of a betrayal than the actual cheating imo. sorry but IN MY OPINION, iâd never want to be friends with anyone who ships ro//nance lol. it just shows me that you donât care about your friendsâ feelings like that.Â
this is kind of a rant and totally nonsensical, but i have to yell about this bc i feel like itâs not even talked about. nancy is always characterized as a perfect girl, but sheâs not. and thatâs OKAY! but you canât erase her history just to have two cute girls kiss.Â
itâs also completely ignoring CANON love interests (vickie). which i get because she didnât get a lot of screen time, but god canât we find another alternative.Â
and be honest: a lot of people ship ro//nance so that jonathan/argyle can get together too. or they act like itâs okay bc steddie get together and steve is happy now.Â
THOUGH steve would approve of the relationship bc heâs a GOOD guy and KIND, i think that robin would have rejected it. sheâd defend that man to the DEATH.Â
so when you ship ro//nance, youâre erasing stobin. because robin would want someone who loves steve just as much as she does. someone who understands that heâs her soulmate and she canât live without him. and nancy just isnât that person. their history and nancyâs perception of steve just stand in the way of that kind of relationship.Â
not to mention that steve and robin are One. like this is more conjecture but they are Literally the Same Person. and if steve wasnât compatible with nancy, what makes you think that robin would be? honestly, the whole concept of ro//nance just completely bamboozles me. iâm confused and iâm irritated. because itâs almost like none of you have actually had a REAL relationship. or YOU donât care about other peopleâs feelings. nancy kin i guess.Â
again again, my personal opinion. i choose not to consume ro//nance content, but somehow it keeps cropping up so i do have to put in my two cents. by all means, keep shipping and supporting them, but it would be nice if you read through this and thought about the characterization.Â
#steve harrington#robin buckley#nancy wheeler#ro//nance#stobin#this isn't nancy wheeler hate#it's just my opinion and how i interpret her character#so take from that what you will#also would just LOVE for steve to have someone in his corner (WHICH ROBIN SHOULD BE CHARACTERIZED AS BEING THERE 24/7)#just like. just like think#get cheated on and then see how it feels#my fist is literally clenched bc some people will say anything to rationalize this#and that's your personal opinion but i'm also entitled to mine#kind of sick and tired of ro//nance though

Billy was not racist. He was trying to protect Max and Lucas both from his father, who would have harmed both of them plus Billy if he knew they were even hanging out let alone romantically involved. Billy was a victim of abuse at the hands of his father, and his mother abandoned him to his father despite knowing what cruelties he would suffer just to save her own ass. Was Billy an asshole? Yes. Was the shitty way he treated people especially Max okay? No, never. Nothing excuses it. But you try living with the sorts of abuses his father heaped on him, and on his mother before she left, and the abuses he would have been heaping on Max's mom too. I have zero doubt that Billy's father r-worded both Billy's mom and later Max's mom because "wifely duties" or some other misogynistic garbage. Billy would have overheard the sounds from it pretty much any time it happened while he was home. You try living with all that and see how YOU turn out. Billy did deserve a redemption arc. He got one of a sort when he sacrificed himself despite "the mindflayer's" control over him, all to save El, Max, Max's mom, and even people he hated. Because he knew what "the mindflayer" had planned. Did you not see Billy's tears when "the mindflayer" was speaking through him? Did you not notice Billy told Karen to stay away from him rather than give in to "the mindflayer" and kill her? Did you not notice Billy flat out lied to his father when his father demanded to know where Max had run off to? There's no way Billy didn't have some kind of clue where to find her. But he lied to his father, to shield her and to shield Lucas, from whatever harm would absolutely have come to them at the hands of Neil Hargrove. Billy is not the embodiment of evil you clearly think he is.
Did Billy somewhat sometimes care about his stepsister? Yes. Did he get abused by his dad? Also yes. These facts don't excuse him from his actions in both seasons 2 and 3.
In our early meetings of Billy he highly threatens to run over the party while they're on their bikes. A normal same human being wouldn't do that. He also beat Steve to the point the kids thought he might be dead. He continued beating Steve even once Steve had been thoroughly knocked out, and likely would've killed Steve if Max hadn't knocked him out.
Also YES HE WAS RACIST WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???? Did you know that Billy's line "certain type of people" in regards to Lucas, was originally a black slur? He was a racist character picking up the trait from yes his abusive dad. Just because his dad was abusive doesn't mean Billy didn't become racist because of his upbringing with him.
You can definitely say that line is to protect Max from abuse from her stepdad if he found out she was talking to a black boy. But it certainly wasn't protecting Lucas, billy couldn't care less about Lucas' safety (SEE TRYING TO RUN HIM OFF THE ROAD).
His character was written to be a bad person, accept this. Characters aren't always written to have redemption arcs or all be good people. He was a racist bully from the 80s with an abusive dad. Just because you think he's hot doesn't change these facts.
Also, abuse doesn't inherently make your character grow up to be a bully. Lonnie Byers is heavily written as an abusive father, even going so far as it was suggested he killed Will in season 1. But neither of the Byers grow up to be bullies. Eleven is brought up in an abusive environment and moves past these traits. Steve's parents are seen as hard on him and in some ways absent and neglectful and besides Jonathan we never see him fight anyone that wasn't for protection.
Billy is the only older character that shows complete disregard for the kids safety. And him dying in st3 doesn't forgive these actions nor rewrite his racist abusive character.
You're allowed to hate characters that are written to be the bad guys. No one attacks anyone for hating Dr Brenner because he's the villain. Many people including myself didn't like Steve in season 1 because he was written to be the popular asshole. Characters are written certain ways for reasons. So go enjoy your self insert fanfiction where you really just want Billy to be a hot ooc. But for the rest of us it's totally fair to hate on one of the villains of the series.

Alright having listened to TMP 1 and 2 now, current impressions:
-Samama is coming off like a blend of Sasha, Jon, and Martin circa season 1. Sasha's drive to investigate, Jon's role as the person placed in a New Position Under Scrutiny, and Martin's early friendliness/attempt to people please.
-Alice is my best friend. And possibly a spiritual cousin to Tim Stoker.
-Gwendolyn has a cross of Sasha (organized) and Basira (terse) in her clear ability to keep to the job's system*** and is understandably a bit hackle-raised between her asshole boss and the new guy seemingly poking holes in her methods. Surname obviously dangles the possibility of relation to Elias Bouchard--but whether this world's Elias is himself or not, or even alive, is up in the air.
-Oh, Lena. I don't care if she's eldritch or not, I am throwing the heaviest clunker computer in the building at her head. Other than that, there's the possibility that she's A) Got Jonah Magnus' eyes in her skull, B) This world's Web's Plan B should the Magnus Institute fall through, another backup avatar in case Jonah Magnus failed to stop Gertrude, or C) Somehow none of the above.***
-Colin sir, I cannot wait to see whatever secret brew you're working on. Show me the conspiracy's bones. I'm ready.
-CHESTER AND NORRIS. A) Jon and Martin are pulling a reverse Uno card and trying to use their familiar voices to wall off the Web's influence somehow, B) These are Jon and Martin's stolen voices that the Web is using to their own ends, or C) ...Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood are alive and well and non-avatared in this world and just so happened to get jobs recording spooky shit. Georgie hooked them up.
-***SO. About the """system""" involved with this lovely horrifying data entry position. These guys are recording statements. It's clear that avatars are still running around here doing their scary business. But what's getting to me is the fact that while these things are recorded and technically filed away, the system of organization, even with Gwendolyn's comparatively sharper intuition of the whats and wheres, the statements are seemingly purposefully dumped in "order" based on...you know. Vibes. Nothing concrete, nothing precise, and with the people working there going out of their way to insist nobody thinks about the work or the statements, period.
Which feels like a setup that falls very short of what the Eye or the Web would want. If there's a defined and understandable system that used to be there, whose rules of labeling were forgotten--perhaps erased?--that seems like someone's purposeful intention of putting at least a tiny wrench into the works. At least once that someone realized what that tidy organization was accidentally aiding. Who that might be, I can't guess yet.
But.
Because hope springs eternal, I do have an idea of where the Office of Incident Assessment and Response--replete with that very, very interesting classical logo--came from in the first place. If not Jonah Magnus, then someone else who's aware of the Fears. Maybe someone who was touched by the Eye and was appalled? Enough to want to do something about this horror, however small. Say, someone taken notice of around the same time as Jonah Magnus?
Jonathan Fanshawe, sir.
Was this you?

Aca Top 10: Hits of 2019 â VoicePlay music video
youtube
It had been a while since their last "Aca Top 10" countdown, and even longer since their previous celebration of recent hit songs, so VoicePlay decided to close out 2019 with a medley featuring the year's biggest bangers.

arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
release date: 30 December 2019
My favorite bits:
the little slides Earl puts on the beginning of â« "Ooh, child!" â« and â« "Yeees, Lord!" â«
Eli and J.None following the direction to â« "dust your shoulders off" â«
Geoff's subharmonic drop at the end of â« â "out the dooo-ooo-OOOOR" â â«
J's smooth tone for the melody in "I Don't Care"
the high fanfare Earl gives to the transition
Eli's clear timbre on the lead for "7 Rings"
Layne's coquettish expression and J.None's finger twiddle to illustrate â« "getting in trouble" â«
making it rain drizzle, and Geoff's confused expression when one of the bills lands in his lap đž
the lovely three-part harmony on â« "write my own checks like I write what I sing" â«
Layne joining in on the harmonies for "Memories" and "Someone You Loved"
Earl getting softer as he looks at suddenly melodramatic Eli in confusion đ€
J.None showing off his falsetto at the beginning of "Sucker"
the stacatto repetition of â« "you you you" â«
all the vocal antics as they bounce through "Bad Guy"
the combination of bouncy descending bass line and woodblock sounds Geoff and Layne do in "Señorita"
J.None indugling in a little cha-cha groove during the chorus đș
Earl's incredible tremolo in "Circles" (How does he DO that?!)
Eli slipping in a quick Ennio Morricone western movie sting
putting a little extra twang into their "Old Town Road" vocals
that fabulous descending riff on the second half of â« "guitar" â«
return of the animated carrot for horsey Layne đ„ đ
Trivia:
â The guys had previously recorded other versions of several of these songs, one together, and the rest with different performers.
"Bad Guy" was included in VoicePlay's "Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes" medley that was part of their spooky season offerings for the year.
It was also covered by PattyCake's incarnation of Maleficent to coincide with the release of Disney's live-action film sequel.
J.None had filmed multiple edutainment parodies with his friend Nikita for her JamSchooled series that were released both before and after this one. "7 Rings" became a lesson about money; "Old Town Road" turned into a tutorial on skeletal anatomy; and "Señorita" morphed into a rundown of ecosystems.
â Lizzo's video for "Good As Hell" celebrates her history as a flute player in the school marching band. The members of VoicePlay are talented insturmentalists in their own rights.
Layne has been playing violin since he was four years old, primarily studying the Suzuki method, and was a member of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. He also learned a bit of piano from his mom, and knows enough drum kit technique to convincingly mime while he beatboxes.
Geoff has played piano since middle school, studying both classical and jazz techniques. He also knows a little guitar, and learned to play the harmonica for a stint in the Blues Brothers show at Universal Studios.
Earl played trumpet and french horn through middle school and high school band.
Eli plays a bit of both piano and guitar, some of which he honed during his days in various rock bands.
J.None plays a number of instruments "passably" but doesn't consider himself proficient in any of them. They include piano, violin, guitar, accordion, saxophone, and clarinet.
â The main melody of "Memories" contains a very recognizable portion of Pachelbel's "Canon in D", which (surprisingly) hasn't yet been included in any of VoicePlay's classical pieces or mashups.

Thinking about the van scene and how Will has never said anything like that to Mike before. The closest being the rain fight but even then all Will said was "yeah". Mike is the speech one. Mike is validating one. Mike is the vulnerable one. Mike is the one who says "You're a hero, you're a superspy, you're the best thing I ever did, Hawkins wasn't the same without you, scary things are easier with you, you're my best friend". Will has little moments - not nothing. But he isn't that guy and he never has been.
I said in another post that Will grabbing the painting after that apology from Mike was totally rational because it wouldn't have been a confession, in a way it would have been a reciprocation of the subtext "you're important to me". It would have been Will responding to what Mike had just said.
In four seasons, Will had never said anything like that to Mike before. he leads the conversation in season 4 a lot more than usual, in large part because Mike is the one who needs it this time, but in general, he isn't usually in that role and doesn't volunteer it like Mike has. Partially situational, but partially just how they are.
Will has never "reciprocated", so to speak, that kind of vulnerability and depth of compliments. It doesn't matter what we know, there's a reason Mike doesn't. There's a reason the camera had to get so close to show us. I honestly don't know how many fewer people might have picked up on it during volume 1 had they not heard of the idea between seasons or had El mention a crush.
This wasn't a one season buildup for the painting, this was a three/four season buildup to Will telling Mike what Mike has BEEN telling Will. That's what it was, for Mike's sake. Think the buildup to El saying "I love you too" but bigger. That's what this ALMOST was for Mike.
It isn't a buildup just because Will is dying holding it inside. It's a buildup because the scale is stacked. Mike has said these heartfelt things 2, 3, arguably four times if you pick enough lines. You could go for more if you count individual lines and not just speeches. Will almost shows it when standing his ground during arguments. He responds when accused, but that only.
I'm not waiting for the payoff of Will to tell someone and be accepted, we got the start of that with Jonathan and it would be less satisfying from only that perspective now. I'm waiting for Mike to get to hear it.
Because whatever nature, I don't care, what Mike has communicated repeatedly on how he feels for Will has never been reciprocated. And he doesn't expect it to be. Mike is content in even that friendship dynamic, but in TV, we want payoffs, so I need Will to tell him how he feels. So that Mike can hear it.

A lot of you are just so amazing at writing these people stories about giving people second chances, of giving them hope and writing angst with a happy ending. You guys are so creative with making things up. . .all this beautiful, wonderful fiction of mermaids and magic, adding onto an already great story. You write their trauma really well. You create all this drama, and no matter what these characters do to these other characters, they're forgiven. You guys clearly believe in second chances. God, you come up with some incredibly rare ships that never even interacted, and it's amazing. It's wonderful. . .all these great things that you do. . .there's just one thing that you can't let go of. You can't give a ship another chance. It's a ship that's been deserving of another chance since s2. You can't forgive Nancy for being so utterly traumatized that she didn't know which way was up. You make up bullshit about Steve forcing himself on Nancy, despite the fact that it Jonathan was the one who took non-consensual pictures of Nancy. You can forgive Jonathan for something he did do, but not Steve for something he DIDN'T do. He was able to walk away from Nancy when he realized that she didn't need him, but Jonathan couldn't find it in him to do the same thing when Nancy was clearly too vulnerable to jump into another relationship. You have Jonathan literally telling Nancy who he THINKS she is, but Steve never did that. If I can forgive Jonathan and you can forgive Jonathan, then clearly, you have the ability to be open-minded about Stancy. You have that within you. You just choose not to. You write all these characters being shitty to one another and forgiving each other and it's amazing stories, they're amazingly well written and you're open to so many ships but just not the one who's been made to feel ashamed and feel guilty over something that was out of their control. You can find it in yourselves to forgive a child abusing racist and to put Steve with him? But not the ship whose only problem has been that the first time they had sex was that Nancy's best friend was killed by a monster? You can believe in interdimensional beings and other worlds, but you can't find it in yourself to be open-minded about this ship? All because of some made-up misogyny that you pulled out of your asses, that literally came from nowhere. You guys create some wonderfully well thought out fanfictions, beautiful fanart, and I can believe that you can do the same with Stancy if you just give it a try. I have seen you guys have multiple ships, except for this one. It quite frankly baffles me. I don't get it. I have seen you guys come up with some well thought out theories, so I know that you guys are smart. It also baffles me that you believe that Nancy Wheeler is capable of doing so many things, of letting nothing hold her back except when it comes to Steve Harrington, you have this belief that he's going to hold her back even though Nancy has proven several times that nothing will hold her back and she's proven in season 2, that she didn't let Steve's fear stop her from getting justice for Barb. That was just in her vulnerable state. Why would she let Steve do that when she's grown and matured? You guys are incredibly clever except when it comes to Stancy. All rational thought flies out the window, and you've got this belief that it's going to stop you from shipping other ships. It's not. Nancy's already shown you her nightmare, and it's not Steve Harrington. The worst thing thing for Nancy isn't to lose her career, it's loosing everyone she cares about.

It's hard to overstate how much Marvel fucked the roll-out of Kang. I can forgive casting a domestic abuser--no way to know that ahead of time. But
Introducing him as the villain of an Ant-Man movie.
Can you imagine an Avengers villain whose personal arch-nemesis is Ant-Man?
2. Introducing a wacky nerd variant of him in Loki Season 2.
Before we've even gotten to know this guy really, we're seeing the actor essentially parody himself. Could you imagine if in Age of Ultron, our second look at Thanos was this:
3. They tried to make him the multiverse guy without having him involved in any multiverse stories.
Early movies in the Infinity Saga introduced the Infinity Stones, Nebula, Gamora, the Chitauri, and so forth. But movies like Multiverse of Madness and No Way Home went by without furthering the plot or deepening Kang's character, making him feel curiously uninvolved with his own story. All they really accomplished, as entries in a saga, was to lay down the ground rules for the multiverse... which were constantly contradictory and nonsensical. With Wandavision and Wolverine & Deadpool, this multiverse stuff just started to seem like silly sidestories, but no, it was supposed to be the main event. A random, cameo-centric main event.
We were asking "hey, why should we care about the multiverse?" and the answer was "because boner joke."
4. Kang wasn't mysterious, just confusing.
Why would some dude from the 40th century care or be a threat to a bunch of 21st century characters? In the comics, among other reasons, Kang is simply an egomaniac who wants to 'honorably' take on the best of the best. Like a modern war gamer who wants to see if he could beat Genghis Khan with his own horse cavalry.
In the MCU... gosh. Loki paints him (or He Who Remains) as a well-intentioned extremist who wants to destroy all timelines but one to keep hordes of alternate Kangs from waging destructive war on each other (how this would affect characters in the 21st century is unclear).
In Ant-Man, the threat is a renegade Kang who wants revenge on a Council of Kangs (who CAN get along now) for some unspecified betrayal. He might be THE Kang or he might be dead for real and the whole thing is only good for a Jonathan Majors clip reel.
In Loki season 2, it's now possible for there to be a 19th century Kang (meaning that, if circumstances changed, I guess Tom Cruise could've been born during the Reformation? How the fuck does that work?) and Loki seems to sort out the whole multiverse problem without the need to destroy any more timelines, so unless he's really bad at his job, that would wrap up the Kang saga, right? Right?

Oh would you so kindly expand on your Murray/that plotlineâą thoughts? Btw I didn't remember it as a cheating situation but since it's been so long since watching that season i was taking other people's word for it. And yeah i don't think Murray did anything even if it was. like he didn't make them have sex.
I started to type out an answer to this ask, forgot to save it as a draft, and lost all of my thoughts, so apologies if this is a little disjointed but! I will do my best to give my thoughts coherently <3
I really do think the Murray thing is maybe a mischaracterization of his intentions, but also not the thing I care most about when it comes to narratives that deal with Steve/Nancy/Jonathan situation in season 2, because at the end of the day it's just another reframing of the same tired take tbh
I'll stick it under the cut though because I know I can be wordy
There's this, like, company line in this fandom that Steve and Nancy were just two teenagers who hurt each other, which I one hundred percent agree with, only that tends to be the company line everywhere except for the Steve-centric fics that get written about that plotline, which instead seem to frequently make an argument that "Nancy cheated on Steve, was cruel enough to cause long-term emotional damage, and then either is forced to grovel for forgiveness or be shut out of his and his friends' lives forever" which is. Not that. Right?
Fandom cultures at large, not just this one, are more willing to do empathetic, in-depth character analysis of male characters than they are female. This is something we know to be true and this is something that is noticable in how Nancy gets treated by fanon, especially when it comes to her relationship with Steve.
Because here's the thing, we could debate it all day (and I won't, for the record, if anyone's thinking about starting a fight) but for my part, what she did wasn't cheating. From the very first time I watched season 2 when it was released, I always read the Halloween fight and the morning after as a breakup.
HOWEVER, even if Nancy did cheat on Steve? It doesn't warrant the downright malicious Nancy characterizations that often feel ubiquitous to this fandom.
Even if Nancy did cheat, there is a refusal to look at the situation from her point of view, something which even Steve is canonically able to do by the end of season 2 (we'll get to that). Because there's more nuance here to take into account than just Nancy making a choice to specifically hurt or break Steve and there's more nuance here than Steve being incapable of moving on from this breakup.
In fact, if you really look at the choices both of them are making, it has very little to do with each other and everything to do with their own reactions to immense personal trauma and grief. Nancy has spent a year suppressing a mourning she's not allowed to experience out loud, and you expect her not to snap eventually?
Does personal hardship mean cheating is, like, a good thing (if that's the takeaway you're going with from canon)? No. Does it still wildly differ from the cruel and intentionally malicious version of Nancy that shows up in far too much fic? Yeah.
She's a teenage girl whose best friend died in a violent and preventable way at sixteen years old. Nancy tried to fit herself into Steve's coping strategies, tried to let it all go back to normal, and was visibly hurting in the process. She sought out comfort. Understanding. A chance to be heard.
It's a disservice to both of their characters to treat this like there's a "good" and "bad" guy, when the way they handle it in canon, the way Steve comes to terms with it (literally within days he is telling her to go with Jonathan, by the way), is all vitally important to their growth.
When Steve says "I may not be a very good boyfriend" that's not about him being down on himself or having low self worth, it's a moment of growth and self reflection/ awareness for him to acknowledge that in his efforts to make himself feel better, he also hurt Nancy. It's about him no longer being in the same bitter headspace of "what am I apologizing for?" that he was at the start of the season, and having the maturity to see that they don't work as they are at their current mental states, no matter how heartbreaking that may be for him.
And Nancy choosing to go with Jonathan is really just a continuation of everything she was doing in trying to get justice for Barb-- she's choosing to follow her heart after being trapped away from acknowledging it for so long.
In other words, not only does he not have reason to, but Steve doesn't hate Nancy, Steve doesn't hold a lifelong grudge against Nancy, Steve doesn't think Nancy is a cruel and unfeeling bitch, but fic authors sure seem to.
If it were just a handful of fics here or there, I wouldn't be so adamant about it, but it's such an ingrained narrative in this fandom that sometimes I think people have genuinely forgotten the canon context.
Don't strip them of their agency and everything they learn from getting together and falling apart by making Steve less emotionally competent and Nancy more borderline abusive than either of them are.
It's boring and it's sexist and it shouldn't be the norm.
but that's just my 2 and a half cents peace and love anon, hope this answered your question <3
#ask#dot thought#this has been sitting in my inbox for days sorry anon#should i have waited to answer until I was having a genuinely very bad few days? maybe not! but alas#i am at my most impulsive when sad things are happening around me#also ps weirdos will be blocked on sight I do not have time for it <3

Having a birthday in December wasnât the idlest time to have a birthday. The seasonâs hustle and bustle, with people scurrying to buy gifts, decorate their homes, and plan parties, means that birthdays were always put on the back burner. No one wanted to buy 2 presents ever, so all of my gifts were birthday/Christmas gifts. No one ever tried to make my birthday a big deal because of how close it was to the holidays.
So, when Steve told me he wanted to take me out for my birthday, I was more than confused. None of my past boyfriends cared much about my birthday. They were broke teenagers who didnât buy anything for their mothersâ birthdays, let alone their girlfriends.
âWhy are you doing this?â I asked, brows furrowing as I stared up at Steve. "Why are you doing this?" he asked, his hand splayed across my lower back as we walked down the sidewalk. We were at a strip mall a few towns over because Steve said, âThereâs nothing to buy in Hawkinâs.â
âWhat, canât I spoil my girl on her birthday?â I shrug meekly. âyou should save your money...yâknow for Christmasâ he rolls his eyes playfully as he leads me into a clothing store. âI have enough money for both,â he replies as he nudges me towards a rack of clothing.
-
Two hours later, Steve and I were walking up to his front door in hand. In one hand, he held a few bags, and in the other, he held my hand. âThanks, Stevieâ I sighed with a smile. He chuckles as he unlocks his front door. âNo problem, sweetheart.â He pushes open the front door and immediately sticks his hand inside to flip the lights on in the living room.
âSurprise!â
In the living room, about 10 people are standing around. Robin, Nancy, Jonathan, Eddie, Mike, El, Lucas, Max, Dustin, and Will. Thereâs a big birthday banner tacked up on the wall behind them and a big birthday cake placed on the coffee table. My hands immediately slap up to my mouth with a gasp. âOh my god, I-I thought you guys said you were all busy!â I say as I cock my head to the side. Then I turn my head towards Steve. âdid you know about this?â he smiles as he nods. âplanned it, sweetheart.â
Iâm almost in tears as I catapult myself into his arms. Once I was done giving everyone hugs and âthank Youâs we all sat around the coffee table. Steve lights the cake before sitting down next to me. âReady?â everyone gives a silent nod before they start to sing.
âHappy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear y/nnn! happy birthday to you!!"
