"This is for the best, Stephen, there's a reason I didn't want you sniffing around any alphas before your first season."

"But I should have had my first season already," Steve huffs under his breath.

"That may be, but you missed last year and you should have waited," his mother says gently, tucking a stray strand of hair behind his ear. "I want you to be able to follow your heart instead of trying to sniff out the Wheeler girl."

"She'd be a good alpha, Mama," he whines.

"I'm not saying she wouldn't, Stephen." She softens, takes both his hands in hers. "But I want you to find the best alpha for you. She's a handsome alpha, and if her scent calls to you, know I will support you with all my heart."

Steve grins. "Thank you, Mama-"

"I just don't want you to be disappointed if you scent out someone else. The scenting isn't binding, but it does have a tendency to work out." She grins to herself, and Steve knows she is thinking of his father, how she found him at her scenting, drawn to his malty, oaky scent from the very first sniff. Not all bonded couples in the village began courting thanks to the scenting and heat season, but it's certainly more than half.

"I wish you could stay."

"I do too, honey, but I'll be in the outer circle, with the other mothers." Joyce stands on her tiptoes to kiss her elder son's cheek. "This feels like a lot, I know, but once you're in the circle, I think you'll feel it."

"But, what if-" Jonathan is grateful his mother cuts him off with a finger to his lips. Saying out loud that he's afraid of picking soneone like his father would be so much worse. Especially to his mother.

Lonnie is gone; he can't hurt them anymore.

It just doesn't help his worrying, that he'll scent someone who won't love him right, an alpha too selfish to see what he needs. He was born of a bad scenting; it'd be just his luck to make a bad one of his own.

"You'll be alright, Jonathan. The baths are nice and warm, and I know it's strange to think of someone else bathing you, but it's really more of a scrubbing to make sure all the mint salve masking your scent is gone. Bob is helping this year, so…"

"I'm not sure if that's better or worse."

"Just remember, every omega in there went through the same at your age."

Chrissy's mother is silent as she escorts her daughter to the bath house. They already fought that morning over breakfast. Her parents expect her to match with someone respectable—someone like Jason Carver—and she had simply pointed out that she would be choosing on scent alone.

She doesn't care much for most alpha scents, all of them too dark and musky. If Jason smells anything like his father—resinous and burnt—Chrissy doesn't think she'd pick him even if he was the only alpha left to choose.

Fortunately, she doesn't have to.

during the s4 era Noah said that he ships Byler because they're building it up, at a s5 panel he said that something went right for Will, he used to ship stancy but now he ships Jancy (because they're the endgame) and he still ships Byler (also endgame) and he said that his favorite moments with Finn are in st5 and in at the October panel he said that Mike is super protective of Will and we couldn't tell if Byler was something romantic or just a really special friendship, just remembered that Noah used to be a multishipper (Byler and mlvn) but in s4/s5 he only started shipping Byler because they started building it up more and he said he still ships Byler today,
