First of all, I love your writing and I'm only now reading Come Home so I don't know if this will change throughout the series but Bug is such a Mary Sue... or at least that's how she comes off like to me.

She knows everything about everyone, she doesn't have any flaws other than being so selfless to the point of jeopardy... Idk, and please don't take this the wrong way, but it's a little bit tiring.

completely understand that you can feel however you want about my writing, and while i admit come home is older and there are definitely some aspects id change now from almost 2 years ago, this is a very odd thing to send to a writer. honesty and criticism are cool and we need that more than ever currently but this feels a bit mean.

also, in my biased opinion, i do believe bug has some flaws that come out later in the season and theyre flaws i did intentionally plan. whether you choose to see them as flaws is your decision !

i hope you continue reading, or if you dont want to finish thats fine ! but if you do then i hope that you can see bug as i do and enjoy the story :)

steve sets down the vhs tape with a soft sigh. "onto the big screen, maam."

you watch the interaction hidden behind a shelf of tapes. steves shift was supposed to end twenty minutes ago. he had grand plans tonight to take you to see a movie, though when you walked into family video, you found him speaking gently to the older woman as he guided her through the process of renting a video from the store.

"that doesnt make any sense," the woman frowns, her weathered face etched with age. she adjusts her glasses and shuffles closer to him, peering over his shoulders to get a better look. "it just appears on my television?"

"the magic of modern media." steve winks, boyish in his charm to appease the obviously uncomfortable woman. when she doesnt smile, he softens his voice. "you said your grandson asked for a movie night?"

the woman nods, grim. her hands shake slightly, you notice how uncertain she holds herself. "yes."

"then i'll help you pick something out for the kid."

"but what about the vhs system?"

steves hand lands on hers. his youthful skin contrasts against her aged skin. he squeezes the hand once, firm enough to promise sincerity though gentle enough not to hurt. "i'll personally come over and set it up. free of charge."

cautious disbelief escapes the womans chest. she takes a step back, shakes her head as if trying to rid herself of naivety. her reaction sets every tethered string in your chest on fire.

"youd really do that?" she asks steve, eyes shining.

"only for our attractive customers." steves wink returns, only this time his handsome smile elicits a laugh and fond headshake from its intended recipient.

you cant help but smile as well.

the older woman takes her time explaining her grandsons interests as steve looks for the right movie. he never rushes her, never second guesses what she says. together they go through almost every movie in the sci-fi section until finally, after multiple assurances that the rating is indeed intended for children, they land on a movie that steve promises will be perfect.

while the woman extends her praise and excitedly tells him her address and when he can come help set up her vhr, the entire time your eyes trace steves freckles with love-lorn fondness.

lovely, you think. hes so lovely.

always patient. always kind. always lovely.

eventually the woman leaves, though not before placing a loud kiss on steves cheek between giggles. he blushes at the affection, though he walks her to her car and waves as her car vacates the parking lot.

"im sorry, angel," he turns to you once shes gone, an apologetic frown outlining his soft features. "i know i said we'd leave as soon as i got off work, but mrs. clare came in and she was totally confused and overwhelmed and i felt bad-"

you kiss steve, long, slow, with your arms wrapped around him because the thought of him being even an inch outside of your skin is unbearable.

you never thought you could love someone like this.

and to think steve once almost left you to die at jonathans, back before either of you could fully understand the weight of the unspoken strings that connected you.

"what was that for?" steve murmurs against your lips, breathless.

your nose traces his. "for being as sweet as honey."

his smile reminds you of the orange sunsets you used to sit underneath when you were a child. "will i get another one if i manage to get us to our movie on time?"

and when you laugh it reminds steve of his mothers fresh baked banana bread waiting for him at home when he was a child. "lets see how fast you can drive, honey."

yes !!! i still plan on an epilogue, just kinda dying BUT i love her so heres some lore !

she grew up lowkey rich, but in a cool way. very artsy parents, a nice family, but when her mom died her dad took the loss pretty hard and he slowly removed himself from angelfaces life. however, she still loves him, but shes distant with him and vice versa.

went to new york for college because she was lonely and hyperindependent. had a slew of boyfriends/flings all throughout undergrad. she was the unbearably cool and mysterious artsy girl that would eat men alive. icon.

started freelancing for more money. her dad sends her money whenever she asks, but she hates asking for help/being vulnerable.

never really fell in love or grew attached to anyone until steve. its why he struck her so deeply. she hadnt met anyone like him before. what drew her in was how quickly he matched her stoicism and wit. my babies <333
