Another reason why the #mirrorscene hits differently for me compared to other intimacy scenes in previous seasons (no shade to those either, they all worked really well within their seasons and stories):

There's this moment when Colin gets her permission to touch her, and then his eyes close when his hand moves across her skin. Kudos to the acting by Luke and the way the scene was shot, but the man looks like he is lost in awe and reverence. Like he can't believe he gets to touch her after dreaming of her, like he has to savor every second of it.

And consider it from Pen's perspective. She has been brought up and treated to feel unworthy of love, attraction, taught that she should settle for the first man who'll have her. She was ready to accept a loveless practical match with Debling because she believed true love was a foolish fantasy for someone like her. And then she finds herself with this man who physically aches for her, who is visibly revering her body, who is making sure she knows what an object of sexual and emotional desire she is is.

This is why one kiss from her and sex will never be casual for him anymore. This is why, despite knowing nothing of sex, Pen trusts him completely and lets him guide her through this first time with complete abandon.

Individually, love is a forsaken fantasy for him and an unattainable goal for her. Together, it is worship.

It's so funny to me that this is just a few hours apart... I mean, the tender - careful - loving Colin who gently caresses Pen at the wedding (I would have loved it to end in a kiss) is the same lustful Colin - angry but horny - eager for her that a few hours before he pushed her against a wall ON THE F@# STREET, spread her legs to put his fingers in her and barely let her breathe while they kissed WITH LUST

Just thinking about how happy I am that we got a more complex, deeper friendship with show!polin. I did enjoy the book, don’t get me wrong. But at the start, book!polin was pretty one sided on Penelope’s part. We know she loves Colin literally from the first page, but Penelope was what feels like an afterthought for Colin. It’s only when he returns from his tour and spends more time with her that he starts seeing her as a friend. He said it himself, they were acquaintances, and only more recently does he consider them being friends. He went from liking her company to Colin “my wife�� Bridgerton real quick (this form of Colin exists in both bridgerton universes, thank GOD). Their story feels more like acquaintances to lovers in my opinion.

What makes show!Polin so magical, and I’m sure is the true reason for the choke hold they have on us, is the fact that we got to see their history as childhood friends develop to best friends and then to lovers. We can see the love Pen has for Colin from the start, and while he hasn’t come to his senses yet, he clearly adores her in the beginning as well.

Then we have the letters. My dear, sweet, completely inappropriate letters (only in regard to the lack of propriety). Yet another contrast between show and book Polin. Their letters truly fortify their friendship to the viewer and add even more magic to their story. Penelope is eager to talk to the man she loves and she is elated that he wants to talk to her too. And Colin gets the space to be himself in these letters. Penelope has never once made him feel silly for his rambling about the places he’s visiting while his family doesn’t shy away from brushing him off or chastising him for talking about his travels. He knows that there is at least one person back home that is excited to hear from him. His heartache confusion over not hearing from her on his second tour only solidifies how dear her letters and friendship are to him. Penelope plays such a large part in his life, he spirals when he thinks he lost her friendship. “Is there something wrong, Pen? Between us, I mean” gets me every time 😭.

We see the yearning from Pen for two seasons, see her protect and love Colin in secret, and heartbreakingly see her give up hope that he will ever love her in that way. We also get to see Colin look for her at every social assembly, protect Pen multiple times, and when he FINALLY realizes his feelings aren’t completely platonic, we see his own yearning. This makes the entire journey all the more gratifying for the viewer.

I can’t believe it sometimes that we finally made it. We got our Polin endgame. It’s been a long few years but those years just made the reward all the more incredible. The boost of serotonin I get watching them finally end up together is truly unmatched and hasn’t diminished no matter the amount of rewatches/GIFs/fan edits I see.

It’s been 6 months and not a day has gone by that i haven’t thought about my babies finally getting their happily ever after. I cannot, will not, do not want to give up the choke hold these two have on me.

Bridgerton Fic: Poor Puzzled Moon

Chapter 11: How Bright the Moon

“It’s New Year’s Eve tomorrow.” Colin says suddenly.

She hums absently, having totally forgotten about that.

“We’re going to a party.” Anthony says.

Colin clears his throat. “You should join.”

Her eyes flit to him. She’s never been invited to a real party, and probably wouldn’t have been allowed to go even if she was. The idea of it is exciting, but the weariness in her bones makes her want to crawl into a dark corner and never leave.

“I… I don’t know, Col…”

“It’ll be fun.” He shrugs. “We can try it out and come home if you aren’t having fun.”

“Are… women invited?” She asks, glancing at Sophie.

Anthony chuckles. “Yes. But it won’t be the most… propper event.”

She swallows nervously. It’s tempting, for sure, but she feels uneasy about it. Uneasy about everything, really.

The thought is laughable. Beth would be furious if she missed a party for her. Especially her first one.

“I don’t know...”

“Penny, we could all use some fun with everyone.” Benedict says, eyes hopeful.

Sure, she’s exhausted, but she’s off the day after. This could help get her mind off of yesterday. Plus, it could be her only chance to go to an actual party and Colin’s eyes are so blue, so full of hope…

Sophie nods at her.

Thinking about all the times Penelope decided to let go of Colin in Season 3 and how that blows up in his face.

Is it mad that even after five months, I’m still hung up on their story? Why am I still craving Polin moments? I loved Season 3—their wedding was beautiful, their baby, a baron no less, was perfect. And yet...something felt missing.

I was desperately waiting for an apology. A real one. Because when Colin said, “I would never court Penelope Featherington,” his tone was derisive. Those words stung, and they stuck. And then in the modiste scene, when he had the audacity to ask Penelope, “What were you thinking when you wrote that about me?” I couldn't help but think, Colin, what were you thinking when you said those cruel things to your so-called 'friends' last season?

And the worst part? There was no genuine apology. What he gave her was more of a non-apology—the bit about visiting 17 cities and implying that charm can be taught, like Penelope wasn’t charming enough as she is. Damn him for that!

So, here I am, coping by diving into fics where I put Colin through the worst kinds of pain, just to make him understand heartbreak like Penelope did. Am I crazy? Maybe. Obsessed? Absolutely. But I can’t help it! 😅
