you always want it to be summer.

the breeze brings the scent of salt from the coast, and the water lets off sparkles, bathing the sun-kissed boy in a golden halo. his profile smiles as he builds a sandcastle with a pair of soft hands accompanied by a pair of small helpers and merry laughter.

the conversation they have is indistinguishable to you, immersed in a warm feeling as if you're looking at the panorama through the lens of a movie; everything looks dreamlike.

a small movement causes your eyes to fall into your lap. “shh, shh...” haru slowly wakes up as you caress her back and the first thing she does is open her small eyes that encapsulate moonlight before smiling sleepily. “how was your dream, love?” you ask, giving her water to drink.

the warm sand buries your feet once the sun dips below the horizon and sinks into the ocean, drawing the silhouette of a finished sandcastle. “mom, come.” jisoo takes your hand and guides you to the beach where donghyun and donghyuck talk in whispers as they carefully put something together.

“give it to mommy,” he softly says before the little boy comes at you holding a necklace made of seashells.

“is this for me?” you ask with a smile blooming on your face.

the necklace adorns your neck as they wrap their little arms around your body as you comb their hairs. “thank you, sweethearts. i love so much.”

your gaze goes to donghyuck and everything glows. because he looks beautiful, and he smiles at you, and inevitably something spreads inside you. something warm and safe. something akin to longing, yearning, and love.

the sea breeze bathes his features and the light finds its end in his brown-eyed gaze. and in that moment, you know that this feeling and his' aren't that far from each other. he walks up to you and places a kiss on your cheek, before peppering haru with butterfly caresses. he takes her from your arms and you see the light he casts, slowly and gently when he grins at them. when he smiles at you.

“happy birthday, dearest.”

he's always shining; he's the embodiment of bottled sunshine. and as the sun said goodbye to the horizon, suddenly shy because of him, its last rays of light danced over the waves, tinging the sky with indigo hues that reflected off the wet sand, imprinted with footprints when they go to sea for one last dip. donghyun is shot toward the moon with a handmade slingshot before sinking into the ocean. he emerges to the surface after a few seconds where you almost lose your mind before jisoo wants to follow.

“be careful, honey!” you say at the seashore.

the three of them turn their heads towards you, surrounded by the same bright glow, before they all three answer almost identical, “yes!” and you can't help but smile affectionately.

yes, you want it to be summer forever.

Home Idle 2: My hometown is more on the cooler side of all the towns in the Shaftlands, so much so that we get a lot of tourists in the summer. Taking a cruise on a sailboat is one of the premier recreational activities there, too.

Home Idle 3: Riddle-senpai has just been standing at the water's edge for a while now. Do you think he's never gone swimming in the ocean before?

Home Idle - Login: I don't know much about tropical islands, but I know a thing or two about plants. That's 'cause I've read up on it while trying to care for my cactus.

You wander along a sunlit alley, however you seem to be drawn to it by an unknown dark force - the force of obsession and desire. This narrow, secret passage leads you to an area with a notorious reputation with the wildest rumors circulating about it…

They say that up to 5 corpses are found here every week: some were mutilated beyond recognition, decapitated, bearing obvious marks of uncontrollable rage or subtle, precise mastery of torture. Others look as if they are not dead at all - a deftly cut throat; a slightly bluish skin colour from suffocation; a poison that leaves no obvious signs of death on the body. They are also found in a great variety of places - from hotel rooms to the rocky seashores. It is obviously not the result of work of a single brilliant madman - it is the area itself attracting maniacs, experienced killers or their clients with its narrow streets, soulless, corrupt officers and dark history…

What would such a pure soul need in such a place?

You stop in front of one of the stalls, reading the sign to make sure this is the right place.

Carefully opening the door, you look at the interior - a dark grey room full of bookshelves. This is not a bookstore or library at all, as it might seem…

But you seem to understand without explanation. You approach the counter and I greet you with a smile.

"Welcome, dear customer! I see you have an order for your ideal love?"

I place a large notebook on the table and, after opening a blank page, hand you a pen.

I’m really sorry to hear about the new Nancy Drew game. I’ve been sitting on a few of those games and never got around to playing them, but I read tons of Nancy Drew as a kid and love the character. It’s sad that HerInteractive seems to have fallen apart like that.

As for the older games, are there any in particular you’d recommend? Or an order I should play through? I got pretty much all of them for crazy cheap in a bundle a couple years ago, so could definitely use a pointer from an expert :)

Omg yes @mallosoar, there are some great starting places with the original games!! I like to recommend them based on setting preference and overall educational theme, out of a few standout ones that I think really encapsulate what the series is like in spirit (and have excellent story, characters, puzzles, and secret locations to find, and a nice balance thereof):

Creepy woods (forestry and American gangster history): Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake

Foggy seashore (marine science and conservation): Danger on Deception Island

Southwestern US ranch (Old West and ancient peoples, animal care): The Secret of Shadow Ranch

Tokyo (Japanese culture, horror, lots of logic puzzles): Shadow at the Waters' Edge

The list of games I would actively steer a new player away from is relatively short tbh. Play order doesn't matter at all, except that some cute little callbacks to prior games might be missed. The first 2 in the series are fun, but they didn't have the formula down yet, so they are a little different. If you really want that OG Nancy Drew experience from the books, Secret of the Old Clock is set in the 1930's. It's a combination of the first ever book of the same title, and Mystery at Lilac Inn. All the games are based on one or two of the books, so if there was a book you remember really fondly it might be worth seeing if there is a correlating game (there is an easy list of the books each of the games is based off on the Wikipedia page). My school library growing up only had like 8 of the books but I remember being ENGROSSED.

Outside of starting with one of the really great entry points above, just choosing play order based on title/cover or description is totally valid. You'll have an idea of where in time each game was published as Nancy's technology level changes (whether she has a dumb- or smart-phone, what kind of computers are usable in the game, etc)
