Theory and Practice (Are Not the Same Thing)
Summary:
The map is not the territory.
The mind is not the man.
Tumblr media
Rating: Mature Fandom: Naruto Relationship: Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Izuna Word Count: 303 (Complete)
Entry for @tbrmweek
Day 2 - February 14: seal theory | instruction | famous jutsu
I chose to use all three prompts.
Tobirama inscribes the hiraishin carefully, making sure that each and every line is perfect.
This is a seal meant to be used in combat, which means that it will have to be perfectly and - most importantly - immediately executed.
There can be no delay, and he must arrive exactly where he means to.
And so the seal must do all the work, channeling his chakra through itself in order to achieve his aims. With Izuna as his opponent, he will have enough to do in managing to stay alive. Working through the complexities of seal theory at the same time will be completely beyond him.
However, if this seal functions as he intends, there will be no thinking at all.
It is the simplest concept in the world and makes deliberate use of the natural desire to close the distance with his opponent.
Go there.
That's all it does.
Distance, time... they will become meaningless as he bridges them with will and knowledge.
If he can make it work.
If.
Read the rest on AO3.

family tea party.
(in my mind, Radagon is the pure Order with no kindness half, and he always yearns to converge with Marika + be on equal footing with her, so in my drawing he’ll always be kinda nuts)

During the events of Tears of the Kingdom, Link is so tired, sleep deprived, gloom poisoned, unhinged and filthy...He is devoid of what makes Link himself: his warmth, his humor...
And that's why no one in Hyrule but his close friends recognizes him💔
-----------------
Note: I know it's Linktober but life got in the way and gave up at "mirror prompt". I'm busy and whatever free time i got goes on Echoes of Wisdom (which i ADORE btw) So please accept this random doodle from my folder 😘
ALSO: I was overwhelmed with the positive reaction to my FF8 inspired Zelda and Hero's shade reunion. Seems like the Internet loves bittersweet angst as much as i do. And YES, there's a sequel in progress ;) I was already drawing it when i posted my first batch of panels.
Cheers!

The biggest reason I'm a Fuuinjutsu Master Iruka truther is that we know the canon reason Naruto is given Kakashi and later Tenzou as teachers is because they're two of the only people who could potentially deal with him should the fox start leaking out of him. Jiraiya quite literally was always meant to take Naruto under his wing - even ignoring the godfather thing - because he had the Fuuinjutsu knowledge needed to modify the fox seal and keep the thing contained
So there is absolutely no way Hiruzen and the elders would've given this kid to Just Anyone to teach. Iruka had to have been some kind of Seals Expert to be entrusted with the jinchuuriki and that's genuinely what I think Kishimoto was originally setting up with his "hiding his real skills" and "could have jounin or ANBU in his future" databook entries. 100% tinfoil theory that Iruka being Naruto's teacher was for the same reason Tenzou was given the role later

A true choice
@offtorivendell wrote an excellent meta on how the Asteri might have warped mating bonds, which I think is very likely since they warped Wyrd (who has been called a mother to all, a cauldron of life, a goddess of fate; she is actually a force that winds between worlds, and her language is one of creation). Specifically, they warped her Cauldron, which once blossomed with pure life, and @offtorivendell and others have suggested this may have changed how mating bonds were woven between beings, serving the Asteri’s appetite for magic rather than creation. What if there is even more we need to uncover in the next book? What if the mating bond was never predestined before the Asteri infiltrated their world? What if, instead of a bond chosen for the fae, the fae chose their own mate and had a ritual—an echo of their current ritual—that bound them together with Wyrd’s blessing (magic)? A true choice to bind souls and seal fates together in love. I can’t think of a better book to unravel the mysteries of the mating bond than in Elain “I belong to no one. But my heart belongs to you.”Archeron’s book.

so, it’s confirmed that Zelda’s “Time” powers came from Sonia, and her “Light” powers from Rauru, but we know from other games that only the women of the royal family can use the “sealing” power inherited from SkSw Zelda. do you think this means that throughout history, the “Light” powers associated w the sealing are actually separate from the sealing ability? I just remember being really lost after that cutscene, cause even if Rauru somehow was a descendant of Hylia, he wouldn’t be able to use those powers, and the sealing of whatever evil is causing trouble always has a fancy light show with it lmao
So, this is a very complicated question with a very complicated theory to answer it.
We know that Sonia's primary, and, in terms of usablity, only power is Recall.
Tumblr media
However, I do believe she's Hylia's descendant, not Rauru, despite Rauru being the one with the light/sealing power. Evidence on that here.
Being Hylia's descendant would make Sonia's birthright be a whole host of other powers, possibly latent, but more probably something that Sonia's never actually been in the right situation to use. Let's take a look at what Skyward Sword Zelda can do.
Tumblr media
She can seal the Demon King-
Tumblr media
-but only at the expense of her own life force being rendered inert while she does.
Tumblr media
She can bless the Master Sword-
Tumblr media
-but it's already as strong as it can get.
Tumblr media
She has strong connections to time...
Tumblr media
...but we knew that already.
Of these three powers, only one would be relevant to Sonia's skill set. The Master Sword can hardly be doubly-blessed, and the Demon King has yet to show his face.
More importantly, however, Skyward Zel's sealing power works MUCH differently to Wild Zel's.
Tumblr media
Wild Zel's sealing is instantaneous, fueled by emotion, with seemingly no draining effect on her person.
Tumblr media
When fully unleashed, her seal is as total as it is inescapable. It doesn't require her to put herself to sleep until Link can deal the final blow with the Master Sword. The closest thing to Skyward Zel's seal that Wild Zel did was in keeping the Calamity at bay for 100 years while Link slept. During which, it's heavily implied that she was conscious, given that she spoke to Link the instant he woke.
Tumblr media
With Rauru, his sealing ability seems much more similar to our princess's, with only some key differences visually.
Tumblr media
His right hand gathers light around it, and needs to be extended to fully function.
Tumblr media
When the seal first activates, it forms a spherical shape, which is inescapable, albeit on a much smaller scale than Zelda's.
Tumblr media
It's a little hard to see, due to the magnitude of Zelda's power, but it IS a sphere.
Tumblr media
And although this act does cost Rauru his life, it usually doesn't. He's done this before, multiple times, as stated in Messages from an Ancient Era tablet A Pilgrimage of Light:
"The kyng was late y-come this aven, so maked the quene to sharen tales of hir lond, of shirines al grene yglouen. "Of erli daies sinnes Hyrules funding have diverse monstres hir reaume biseged ond assaylled. "Uncesinge in striffe, thei broughte to despeir folkes lyfen. Kyng ond quen ysete thamselue to bringen scurge to ende. "With might of light ond pouere, driven abak ybeen, ond the roial couple made thes shirines to selen him awei. "Thes holi selen ben yclept Shirines of Light. "Gret kyng, grete quen, y thank ye. Ye foughte whan y wer maiden-child, that y kude pes toknouen."
The translation, to the best of my efforts:
"The king was late to come this evening, so made the queen to share tales of her land, of shrines all green glowing. "Of early days since Hyrule's founding have diverse monsters her realm besieged and assailed. "Unceasing in strife, they brought to despair folks' lives. King and queen set themselves to bringing scourge to end. "With might of light and power, driven aback they been, and the royal couple made these shrines to seal him away. "These holy seals been called Shrines of Light. "Great king, great queen, I thank you. You fought when you were maiden-child, that I could peace to know."
Sonia and Rauru went around making the Shrines of Light that we find in present day and receive blessing from:
Tumblr media
So, with the exception of the Demon King, who was so powerful that he could resurrect thousands of years later, Rauru's seal behaved like Zelda's—instant, fueled by emotion, inescapable, projected by the right hand, with no immediate toll on the user.
But what does this mean for Zelda's sealing ability? Despite behaving similarly, it doesn't look similar at all.
Let's look back at what happens when Sonia and Rauru combine their powers.
Tumblr media
Rauru brings his hands together in a triangle shape, possibly invoking the same Triforce motif Zelda gives when she unleashes her power. The Secret Stone, which magnifies his light abilities, glows in a similar shade to Zelda's seal.
Tumblr media
Sonia extends her right hand as her own tear glows. Despite it only amplifying her time power, her hand shows the same color Rauru's light gives off—as well as being in a spherical form.
Tumblr media
Rauru draws in her power (and Zelda's, whose is a combination of both already and therefore adds no new properties) and forms a bright yellow light with a sphere around it.
Tumblr media
It's better seen from this angle, where we can also see what looks like an inverted Triforce in the middle.
Tumblr media
They're nowhere near the level of focus Zelda's Triforce has, but the triangles are definitely there.
Tumblr media
And then it becomes a catastrophic force of power, able to wipe out an entire swarm of Molduga in a single hit.
Zelda's lineage's sealing ability is a culmination of all of this. It's Sonia and Rauru's powers combined, taking Hylia's seal, the Goddess's full power-
Tumblr media
-and attaching that strength to something instantaneous and geared specifically to lock away darkness-
Tumblr media
-by combining the power of time with the power of light.
Tumblr media
Hylia's sealing power isn't Rauru's, but Zelda's is Hylia's AND Rauru's combined.
As a side note, this is also why I think, despite Rauru contributing his power, the magic remains only matrilineal. Hylia's descendantsmeaning in this case, Sonia—are the only ones that carry her abilities. Rauru's power attached itself to Sonia's to create Zelda's, but Sonia's abilities—with or without Rauru's boost to them—can only be accessed by her daughters and granddaughters.
Tumblr media
Strong enough to rival any magic in the world in sheer might, this later became known as the Light Force.
TLDR: Hylia's seal = Slow, nonlethal, exhausting toll, powerful, golden lightshow Rauru's seal = Fast, potentially lethal, concentrated, opposes Ganon, spherical lightshow Zelda's seal = Fast, concentrated, opposes Ganon, spherical (from Rauru), nonlethal, powerful, golden (from Hylia); a hybridization of both seals, the best of both worlds

i have a theory that the baby!jack fanaticism in the fandom partly comes from the fact that on june 26th, 2017 (less than two months after jack was introduced as a character) the us supreme court ruled that queer couples were allowed to adopt in all 50 states. so naturally, as kelly died giving birth to jack, dean was in the midst of his widower arc, and the fandom thought that jack was going to be a baby, we had a wave of romanticization of infant adoption for destiel.
#also yes i say romanticization for infant adoption because it causes brain damage. i am an infant adoptee. i can almost guarantee that i#know more than you about how infant adoption affects adoptees. no. even as a queer person im sorry but i do not#care as much about our ‘right to adopt’ (nobody has the right to someone else’s child) versus how it affects adoptees#infant adoption is still harmful even if the adoptive parents are queer. this is not meant to be about that but i will not be argued with#about this. if you have complicated feelings and want more information then please do your own research. but this isn’t#supposed to be About That. this is just looking back on how real world events effect fandom#and how this ruling affected the queer community and thus our largely queer fandom. there still needs to be a conversation about how#adoptees don’t have access to their original birth certificates in all 50 states#(because this ruling was about queer couples being shown on the new birth certificates as parents. which is great for adoptive parents. but#adoptees still have our birth certificates amended to where our biological families are erased. those records are still sealed for at least#18 years but sometimes indefinitely. the ACLU still doesn’t think adoptees deserve that because their board has adoptive parents and works#with the adoption industry so they financially benefit from queer people being allowed to adopt)#or how infant adoption is harmful but most people are not ready for that conversation. it’s cute to have make destiel dads. i get it.#but they’re dads in canon already and we really need to at least look at adoption as the nuanced topic that it is instead of#making it this cutesy thing or all about dean or cas. adoptees deserve stories about us too#so yeah anyways. this is just a theory and i obv can’t confirm if but it just makes a lot of sense to me. thoughts?#supernatural#jack kline#adopted jack kline#adoptee issues#adoptee voices#the romanticization of adoption in fandom#dadstiel#destiel#baby jack kline#castiel#supernatural fandom#dean winchester#s13#hw.txt

It's so funny to me that Dojo doesn't remember where the WU is.
At first your like yeah that's fair! It's been 1500 years! But then Omi goes back in time and you realise Dojo and Dashi share one braincell.
And that brain cell is not tracking the Wu lol

In JttW, changing ones name is quite common and usually accompanied by a big changes in their life (mostly for Buddhist reasons). And LMK seems to acknowledge this since they have used both the pre-Journey Zhu Ganglie as well as his later Zhu Bajie names when talking about the Pig Pilgrim.
And with this line of thought: there is no way that Iron Fan is is PIF's birth name.
Not only is it way too on the nose (unless PIF chose/was given her fan because of her name), she also has gone through a huge change in her life: abandoning her life as a Celestial Maiden and marrying DBK.
Which means... There is a huge opportunity for the show (or fanfic) writers to give her a double identity.
And part of me kinda hopes, if canon, that identity will be Yang Chan; the sister of Erlang Shen.
I mean think about it.
As Celestial, she was shown to have an equal standing with nephew and (kinda) grandson of the Jade Emperor. This makes it very likely that PIF is also related to the Jade Emperor in one way or another.
If she is Yang Chan, her mother would be Yunhua (Yaoji?); a goddess whose job by some sources was to "limit the gods' mortal urges such as love, greed, and ambition". Is it just me, or aren't those also major traits of Iron Fan as a character?
You could argue that DBK getting imprisoned under a mountain is loosely inspired by The Magic Lotus Lantern, the main story Erlang's sister is known for (forbidden marriage, parent getting imprisoned under a mountain by their brother, the son getting a weapon linked to Sun Wukong is a key item at freeing the said parent.)
IronBull family has been part of every single season so far. And when the time to choose the next Jade Emperor comes, it would be so easy for the writers to use PIF (who is still Celestial enough for Azure to refer her as such) as an excuse to get them involved in the progress. Double so if it actually turns out that PIF (and Red Son) has a claim for the throne.
The mere idea of Erlang and PIF as siblings is absolutely hilarios

Crack theory:
So, between 1x01 where Wukong puts a seal on MK to limit his powers, and 1x09 where Wukong says "Look kid, using that much power—your body can't handle it." I'm wondering if the seal (which lowkey I'm kinda waiting to be brought up again) ALSO sealed away MK's Moneky form, and I'm wondering if MK broke it in 4x07 Pitiful Creatures.

Linktober Day 9
Deity
*sneezes after downing coffee* Well irl stuff got in the way so I'm way behind my original schedule for these and for Linktober but here we go with another arguably short one, fuelled purely by self indulgence, headcanons, spite against my linguist essays that kept me from keeping to schedule, severe sleep deprivation, a shout out to the Ender Lilies soundtrack and Majora's Mask soundtrack, and Nintendo for not clarifying anything about the lore so I'm snatching what I can and making it my own lol. Look, when you fíxate so much on details the Zelda team doesn't elaborate on you have to fill in the gaps with what you can.
As always can be read as romantic or platonic, technically in a LU context but not explicitly in it by itself.
The Lord of the Mountain liked hearing people sing.
In a way, it wasn’t a surprise, Hylia and the Golden Three each had their ballads and symphonies and minuets, each splendid and with cuts of their divinity in it, Farore was fond of lightning and forest alive minuets, and you could swear Farosh sparked just a bit brighter when one would him the beginnings of the Minuet of the Forest near their spring, Din was fond of boleros, fiery and alive and howling with the echo of flame touching earth that made a shine run through Dinraal’s scales, Nayru, in contrast, was much fonder of blizzard and river quiet serenades, the songs of contemplation at first snow ringing clear when Naydra curled around it’s spring, content to be free of Malice.
And of course Hylia had her ballads and lullabies, perfectly fitting to her display of divinity, of honey days and vast bird like wings, of ambered summers to come and to pass and dazzling solar storms of starlight and sunlight sparking through the human form of her descendants and heroes. So in a way, you weren’t surprised at all that the Lord of the Mountain – Satori, with a familiar touch of londsleite divinity, the hunt of the woodland beasts and diamondscar adoration for the Hero of the Wilds, similar in glory to the Light Spirits petrichor and vermeil fondness for the Hero of the Twilight – liked to listen to people sing. What you were surprised was how it attempted to follow along, it’s head across your lap the second you sat down in the clearing, a gentle hum on back of it’s throat, an owl’s cry and a cicada’s humming and faintly, chirring purring as presses it’s faces into your hands, a gentle request for petting.
It was adorable, even with the faint notes of the chill of clear spring water on winter and the livewire feeling of magic, like holding your hand too close to a flame but not quite touching it.
A low chuckle brushes against the back of your mind, a feeling like biting on ice, the prowl of a wild beast and the build up of lightning and light used to create his blade, the amused affection of a warrior reconvening with their brother in arms, you think you see the bone ivory of the Deity’s hair on the side of your vision, though you know he’s not physically there, ‘He likes you.’
You hum, gently patting behind it’s ears, pushing through the chill, gracefully not mentioning the burning with a smile at the mythic being’s faint chirring, birdsong and the wind through cherry blossoms that sparkle like rose quartz, “Well I quite like him too, I can see where it’s gentleness comes from.”
The ghost of a touch over your hair, the caress of lightning striking over your skin and the hair on the back of your neck pricking up and the crisp cold of winter, the chill of the ending and the flame of a new dawn, of new days, the phantom of magnolias and spring water on your tongue. The fragrance of pine, daffodils and blood soaked lilies on ashen fields on your senses, gentle and careful, marking but not claiming, ‘Only because it’s you, beloved. It’s not something easily given.’
You sigh, shakily composing yourself, you let yourself relax into the phantom sensation. Of hopes and dreams and healed suffering, of the divinity of hunt turned into protection and lightning given form, of tangled timelines and crystalized memories, “I know. It does not change my opinion, either way.”
To be the subject of a god’s care and regard was dangerous, after all. For the human and the deity in question, you know the stories from your world well, of the effects of Hylia on First and Sky, of Twilight and the personification of the Twilight Realm and the spirits of his land, of Wild and clawing from death’s embrace into that of the wilderness.
Knew how the fact the Fierce Deity’s mere proximity causing pain on those who changed him into hunting for hunt’s sake into protection for the sake of someone else cut deeper than even the ever encroaching entropy all beings must one day face. It was no wonder the Song of Healing was his creation, to want to ease the burden.
You gladly grant him some peace, in turn, even if it wasn’t much. It’s the least you can do, for always having his ways of watching over your heroes.
“Join me? We can make a duet.”
You feel more than see him shift, ephemeral, fleeting, gentle against the edges of your existence, as foreign to Hyrule as your own, sparking over your spine as you feel ozone and rust on your teeth. Satori is humming again to match the rumble of thunder in the man’s voice, the heralding of songs of war and elegies for the dead, ‘Of course, though I’m afraid I do not know many songs, besides…’
“It’s alright,”, you smile faintly, there’s a white ocarina in his hands, as he leans, a spectre against your side, “I’ll teach you some of my own, though you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t remember all the lyrics.”
‘It would be my honor to learn.’
You think he smiles, from the fluttering of something ancient and long forgotten against your side.
You sing to Satori and the Chain, a small respite of familiar and forgotten tunes, the Lord of the Mountain hums along. The Fierce Deity’s song cutting through any nightmares that may ail your heroes for another night.
When the dawn of a new day comes, the feeling of divinity against your skin feels just a bit more obvious, sinking into every crack of your being like a shroud, falling over your boys like a veil, reflecting the breath of eternity over Hyrule.
(First gives you a look that’s half exasperation, half understanding. Sky pointedly sticks to your side as Time looks you over, markings deep with vibrant color. You shrug with a helpless smile as you feel the lightest brushes of Hylia’s fond days of gold and starlit summers days against the Lord of the Mountains warm, luminous affection and the Fierce Deity’s smug, but content lonsdaleite smile.)

fffffffffff (almost)all the items you pick up in the minor erdtree church just outside leyndell relate to devin. there is a golden centipede, a golden order seal(this is the seal he uses to cast incantations, as opposed to darian who uses the clawmark seal), and the outer order gesture received after listening to the echoes of marika, which pairs with the inner order gesture given by devin. WHAT DOES IT MEAN. then, if we wanna get really conspiracy brained, the last item is a missionary's cookbook, which says: "A record of crafting techniques left by a man who, unable to become a Finger Maiden, instead became a missionary, and went forth to spread holy teachings." If we remember from this zullie vid on unused NPCs , there was actually a female preset for one of the D twins. it has been suggested(though not commonly) that the writer of the missionary's cookbook was, in fact, Devin, hoping to be able to stay with his twin. if he *had* initially been planned to be a woman instead(given he most likely represents the silver and more 'feminine' half of the armor), she also would've likely not been permitted to be a Maiden, as the twins are Tarnished.

What if Lance was present during the Void Shard cutscene?
Marlon was obviously worried but didn't show much reactions to the news, since he's not a wizard and he probably spends little time in the Badlands, but Lance would be much more familiar both with what is happening there and the meaning behind the shard itself. He'd be an interesting addition to the event.
I'm not even sure Marlon and Magnus are aware how massive and strong Apophis is after the cutscene, they seem to act like it's just a bigger serpent and not the king of all the corrupted monsters in the Badlands. It's possible that whatever teams will be sent to fight Apophis will be in great danger simply for severely underestimating the monster even after the farmer warns them (in part because they also underestimate the farmer).
Lance is more familiar with the monsters there (and he researches monsters for a living), he'd probably ask a lot more questions about the much larger and stronger serpent the farmer battled for once. I assume he's at least be interested in how much larger the serpent was and farmer's answer will shock him at lot more. After all he spent a lot of time fighting in the Badlands and he never encountered anything like that.
So he would also be curious about where this serpent was when the farmer fought it, at least to make sure both him and his colleagues can at least not stumble upon the monster unprepared. The fact that Apophis is hiding in a place adventurers never reach is also something Marlon and Magnus never learned, again probably because they are not very familiar with the Badlands, not in the same way someone who fights there weekly would be. And Lance would be able to understand just how weird that is by remembering how deep in the Badlands he himself reached. Apophis seems to always be just barely out of reach for adventurers to meet him, why didn't he ever left his territory to go after the ones who got close to the boneyard?
And finally he would have more to say about the shard itself. He's more familiar with the void magic and the corruption happening in the Badlands than Marlon, so he'll understand how dangerous and unusual that shard is as soon as he'll see it. He's also probably not trained in communicating with the elementals like Magnus is, but he probably understands enough about it to ask more questions. And he'll definitely discuss more with Marlon what the shard shattering means. Or at least he'll try but Magnus will probably rush them both to the Ministry.
Since he can visit the Ministry as a wizard he'll leave with Magnus I assume. And although he'll probably be forbidden to talk about the Ministry's decision he'll still give a few for hints than Magnus. Like mentioning that he's worried or how unusual Apophis is even for the Badlands or something.
(This would mean he'd also be more familiar with the shard's energy and when the farmer will end up with the Seal of Silence on them he'll be more aware with what that means and panic more about it. After all, whoever is responsible for the Corruption not only took a personal interest in the farmer but also forces them to not talk about anything relating to it. The farmer could get tortured every few days for all Lance knows and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it, or even know about it since the farmer can't even ask for help. And if the shard self destructed when Magnus tried to learn more about it who's to say the Seal won't kill the farmer if Lance starts asking them questions about it? It's a lot more dramatic this way :D Imagine the worry and the guilt for not being able to protect the farmer🤤)
