[Start ID. A redraw of the official icons of the ten named slugcats from Rain World, arranged in two rows: Survivor, Monk, Hunter, Nightcat, and Gourmand in the first, Artificer, Rivulet, Spearmaster, Saint and Enot/Inv in the second. Each is drawn in roughly the same pose as in the original art and fitted with speculative interpretations of their biology, and the second image is a “dead” version of this. For example, all ten have slug-like rhinophores in place of ears, cuttlefish-like colorful eyes with strangely-shaped pupils, cephalopod-like beak "teeth", expressive barbels or oral tentacles at the corners of mouths, spiny radulas, and the frilly mantle fringes of sea slugs, though otherwise their faces are squishy, simple and mammalian-shaped.
Cream-colored Survivor and yellow Monk both share triangular, bicolored spots matching their eyes (which are tan and brown, and two shades of blue, respectively), small, bumpy fringes, and relatively neutral looks on their faces. Defensive-looking Hunter is mostly a dull orange-pink, though their blobby fringe is a more violent red and their back is purple and marred with lumps. Nightcat is navy blue and flecked with dots of yellow and teal, their rolled rhinophores are a lighter blue, and their shading fractures into stars in some places. Gourmand is almost uniformly tan, their wide, very ruffly white mantle fringe bordered by a spray of white spots, and their beak sticks out from either corner of their smile. Primarily red Artificer, snarling, has yellow markings of multiple sorts, a prominent yellow dewlap and their characteristic dark scar taking out a chunk of its face. Rivulet is a darker blue than usual, with long barbels, red gills and rings, countershading, and a cheerful expression, sticking out their radula. Spearmaster is purple with orange accents, eyes and spots, a large fringe and spines down their back. Saint’s green caryophyllidia are marked by small, yellow diamonds, and their long, thin radula extends far below them. Enot is decorated with mottled red stripes, blue patches, yellow stars, and an uneven and almost cartoonish imitation of blush, though generally the same deep blue as Nightcat, a passive or almost slightly smug look on their face and their rolled rhinophores out to either side.
In the second image, nine of the slugcats’ eyes are crossed out, indicating that these are death icons. They look fairly the same, with mostly expression differences. Survivor is caught in the beginning of a threat display, a karma flower sprouts from Monk’s side, Hunter is burdened with overgrowing, purple and blue rot, Nightcat’s rhinophores are pinned back, and Gourmand looks mildly disheartened. For the final row, Artificer bites its radula between small plumes of smoke, Rivulet drops their expression, Spearmaster looks very startled, Saint looks almost entirely the same besides half-open eyes and their markings greater in number, and Enot grins confusedly. End ID]
If you'll excuse the unusually lengthy ID: the arena meme introduced by @pansear-doodles at long last after a nearly year-long wip status (or, rather, finished a month ago today to honor my own first time playing it!)
Design notes and shout-outs under cut! :]
The following people are some of those who’ve inspired my designs most since I started this eight months ago (or just inspired me to get a little weirder with slugcat biology), among many others for sure, and I thank them for it–but this is simply to bring attention to artists I find cool, and in no way an obligation to interact or anything :]
> @saturncoyote , @carpsoup , @charseraph , @gallusgalluss , @bitsbug , @dopscratch , and @0hmanit (and a special mention to dddeerbo and hunterlonglegs, who’ve since deactivated)!
Survivor: Surprisingly the hardest to pin down the colors for, since nothing with its sibling's palette seemed to match up right (I did have to add in a little blue somewhere for Monk, the beginning of making it clear how much I’m simply going based off of vibes for the colors of scug innards). I consider them, Monk and Gourmand to be part of the same gene pool of slugcats, and even possibly the same colony even if the latter isn't really related, so took a bit of Gourmand's coloring and fit them in with their inspiration: Goniobranchus verrieri. They serve as a bit of an introduction to my ideas of scug traits (i find it really fun how many people have thought to add so many silly sluglike fixtures of biology completely independent of me, buuut here I’m mostly talking about species variation), and like in-game they’re pretty average! They, Monk and Hunter have a couple scars sourced from a piece of Joar's concept art that I'm failing to find, those across the bridge of the nose, under the eyes, and across the rhinophores, respectively, and my Survivor interpretation features many on the back of the neck, as a result of survived lizard bites.
Monk: Their coloring is primarily based off the fact that I associate them with blue fruits, honestly, a bit because I was compelled to establish a familiarity with Rivulet, and lastly inspired by the spots of Goniobranchus kuniei (and geminus, less important to me as one of my characters is a kuniei instead, but more fitting). Between the yellow + blue and the circular marking in the center of their face, they’re meant to bear a little resemblance to an iterator that shares similarities with the characterization I’ve given them, and similar coding of her sibling can be seen on Survivor’s markings around the eyes. As both a “default” slugcat and one whose campaign I haven’t played, though, I can’t say I have much more to point out about em.
Hunter: The whole rot thing made for a really fun time drawing them, and while the color change on their back is a result of this, it’s also an excuse to relate them to Babakina festiva, arguably my favorite sea slug (mostly for sentimental purposes). And to Spearmaster, a fellow messenger slugcat, and it serves as a gradient between Hunter’s pink and the “traditional” color of Rot seen in the DLLs. Aside from their affliction, they’d actually be the plainest in terms of design, as they don’t have any patterns or quirks of body type, just the red + purple and strange lumps + possible malnutrition. I can’t remember if NSH had created them in particular or just...caught + released or something, but it probably wouldn’t be strange for a lab-grown slugcat to be simple like that.
Gourmand: Like the two above, they’re rather plain in terms of coloring and adaptation, and like the two above, I find that fun. I decided it would be nice to avert the “all slugcats being of the same body type, and Gourmand’s out of place as the exception” thing by just...adding more fat to all of them, really. I did want to emphasize their sheer bulk even so, both fat and muscular (not like I couldn’t have still gone further with it, of course, but slugcat anatomy can be a little obfuscating sometimes, and they were intended to look rather plush considering personal size headcanons and therefore the lack of proper gravity), and the thick and flounced mantle looked like a good addition, as per their sea slug Glossodoris hikuerensis. Unlike Survivor and Monk, I didn’t attempt to hold their resemblance to any particular other character (which means a little less to balance out the “default gene pool” thing), so those are all the design notes I have for em.
Artificer: The second slugcat I’ve ever played, or finished the campaign of, my favorite for at least a long time, and the first thing I did was give them yellow accents, the shape of which have troubled me slightly (not quite like the spots or stripes of the others). They’re both a little more appealing and more explosive-looking to me, and considering how early on I played Arti, actually present in some of my older art. It does give them a little resemblance to Saint (completely intentional, two slugcats with strange relations to karma), as well as the fact that its radula is green for familiarity with one of its children (at some point it was going to have all-green markings, even!). I’m generous with their scars, partly because it was fun to overemphasize the one on their face and partly because it does seem like a reckless slugcat, on top of the dangers of its explosive abilities–I’ll probably just keep adding more forever. Mostly-red sea slugs aren’t too common, but Hexabranchus sanguineus works for sure. The ridged, yellow dewlap can expand for combustion purposes, or something along those lines. Arti’s where I began experimenting with a lot of the mildly-offkilter features seen in my interpretation of slugcats, as they’ve once again been a favorite from the start.
Rivulet: I've obviously given other slugcats spots, deeply enjoy the bubbly-soda markings of other peoples' slugcats, and thought seal riv would be cute. Despite not too closely resembling it, they've been government-assigned Hypselodoris bennetti, for color reasons and for a couple sentimental ones. Originally, the colors of every scug were meant to match up with the custom colors I gave them at the beginning of their campaigns, (though Arti, Gourm and Spearmy are the only three who actually apply here, since I've only played through half the slugcats: I gave arti the yellow as mentioned above, gourm brown eyes and spearmy light pink spears, furthered by the outskirts pearl accompanying me and that palette all the way to moon. Tolerance training for eternity in hell cause I already knew about the maroon pearl quest). I initially gave them the colors of the bi flag for fun... but with the limited palette of this image, I was left without pink for a while and decided to see how they'd look in red. I then realized how they now wonderfully matched Moon, and besides, red's a sort of camouflage in deep water! As a side-note, the difference between their eyes and those of others always bothered me a little for anatomical purposes, and the cephalopod eyes were probably influenced by this!
Spearmaster: Inspired as much as possible by @notyourfunnyman ’s wonderful spearmy: designed in a way that helps it fit in with scavengers, at least between the long sensory tentacles, big ruff, back spines and slightly thin/distended anatomy, a form of defensive mimicry. I always had annulate rhinophores in mind, for a little diversity sure, but mostly because the shape reminds me of radio antennae and communication towers (seems fitting for the comms array and being a messenger slugcat)! I started searching for a real-life slug to give them just by looking up their rhinophore shape...and was met immediately and coincidentally with annulate-topped nudibranchs that fit them more perfectly than I could've imagined: Flabellina and surrounding clades, I think Paraflabellina ischitana works very nicely. The orange was completely unplanned, but there wasn’t a place for light pink among the other slugcats’ palettes, and importantly it likens them to both Hunter and Seven Red Suns a little more.
Saint: I am very much a non-furred slugcat enjoyer, with respect to those who aren’t, so figuring out the only visibly furred slugcat was an interesting challenge. I’ve decided that they likely have other, milder adaptations for help in the cold, mainly just more efficient fat storage, and what looks vaguely like fur is instead a bunch of tubercles (called caryophillia, for the second reminder out of three). Their inspiration doesn’t have these, however, Miamira sinuata’s numerous yellow and blue spots (not to mention...whatever’s going on with that shape) and general effect of being the only really green nudibranch I could find were probably perfect for a strange green echo. Not pictured, but their beak-teeth are tiny and flat to make a surface for grinding soft food against with the lack of a functioning radula, which is tipped with a specialized spiny “grapple-hook” for better traction/grip (not to mention the numerous little teeth running down the whole thing).
(Best part of hiding this under a readmore means edits will be seen by all reblogs, I'm mostly sure, because I completely forgot to mention! The spots on their forehead are simple eyes. Their camera eyes appear closed in-game, I like to believe their complex eyesight is rather poor anyways or otherwise reason that they aren't seeing out of those, and while this was far from her REASON for attunement with the world, it does help compensate for mainly viewing it through a canvas of simple light and dark. This, and the fact that their swapped-out "fur" is not only to commit to a lack of hairs but contributes to sensory input!)
Nightcat/Enot: I guess you could say I found the “these two are technically the same person” compelling. (E.g. similar colors, both very strange and enigmatic, and Enot/Inv/Sofanthiel’s remark during the dating sim about getting removed from Arena Mode.) I doubt they’re the only two slugcats in their body, considering humans with DID tend to have more than a few (and I find it very funny that a slugcat bearing resemblance to Nightcat appears in Gourmand’s ending. They’re allowed in the colony and Enot isn’t </3), and I have to credit @faelingdraws ’s art for being what convinced me on it! Their design inspirations come down to trying to balance a few different ideas: making the patterns and palettes of both look oddly similar (special mention to the stars, since those are fun to draw), basing them off of Felimare sechurana and juliae respectively, using blocks of color with the same placement as in Enot’s official art, and specifically making Enot look...biologically reasonable and imperfect, whilst also clearly trying to imitate human displays of emotion (what with...the eyes and blush on that one piece of official art).
Lastly, here’s just a lineup with notes on body shape and size. Most of the nicknames (existing to give a little more space, that’s all) are obvious, and while I can’t remember why I shortened Nightcat to Nox, it is in honor of my friend by the same nickname :]

dark artifices spoilers!! do not read if you haven’t finished lord of shadows (i’m looking at u tina)
Ty,
I've thought so many times about what I would say to you if you reappeared suddenly. If I was walking along the street and you popped out of thin air, walking along beside me like you always used to, with your hands in your pockets and your head tilted back.
Mom used to say you walked celestially, looking up at the sky as if you were scanning the clouds for angels. Do you remember that?
In your world I am ashes, I am ancestors, my memories and hopes and dreams have gone to build the City of Bones. In your world, I am lucky, because I do not have to live in a world without you. But in this world, I am you. I am the twinless twin. So I can tell you this:
When your twin leaves the earth you live on, it never turns the same way again: the weight of their soul is gone, and everything is off balance. The world rocks under your feet like an unquiet sea. I can't tell you it gets easier. But it does get steadier; you learn how to live with the new rocking of the new earth, the way sailors gain sea legs. You learn. I promise.
I know you're not exactly the Ty I had in this world, my brilliant, beautiful brother. But I know from Julian that you are beautiful and brilliant too. I know that you are loved. I hope that you are happy. Please be happy. You deserve it so much.
I want to ask if you remember the way we used to whisper words to each other in the dark: star, twin, glass. But I'll never know your answer. So I'll whisper to myself as I fold this letter up and slide it into the envelope, hoping against hope it will somehow reach you. I whisper your name, Ty. I whisper the most important thing:
I love you. I love you. I love you.

Zale absolutely made a high pitched squeak, and the first time B'st paused for a second before he chucked him. Zale will deny it despite doing it every time he's picked up. (Valere and Teaks start poking him to see if he only squeaks when he's lifted, or if it can be repeated in different scenarios. Turns out he's ticklish, and how Garl or Valere didn't know is the bigger mystery.)
While B'st won't chuck Teaks, she does get to ride on his shoulders for better viewpoints. (B'st shifts the smoke outlets to a different area maybe; by his mouth for a curled moustache?)
Tumblr media
B'st rates his companions on their chuckability:
Valere: always lands on her feet, even if you catch her by surprise; does a sweet backflip most of the time. 8/10
Zale: even more impressive acrobatics than Valere; makes a funny noise when you pick him up. 9/10
Garl: extremely satisfying to heft, but not very aerodynamic; does not land on his feet. 6/10
Serai: will open a portal in midair so she can jump kick you from behind; not recommended. 1/10
Resh'an (puppet): weighs nothing and ragdolls in the air; with a good tailwind you can chuck him across camp and then some. 9/10
Resh'an (real): usually turns into a bird in mid-air; not actually that satisfying to chuck, but his feathers get extremely ruffled. 7/10
Teaks: What are you, some kind of monster? She's so small and pink haired. Exempt from chucking; willing to take notes when someone else is tossed.
Artificer: Rolls up into a ball and insists on calling it the 'canonball special'; has figured out how to cause explosions when he lands. 10/10, but try not to do it near inhabited structures.

YUO NAMED YOUR MESSENGER FILE GARL???? I CALLED MINE AEPHORUL .....
HELP HAHAHAHA I LOVE THAT
I named my lil ninja Garl because I played Sea of Stars BEFORE I played The Messenger, so I decided that I would use my special Lycan Alchemy and revive Garl in the form of Ninja (this was before I got the best ending, do remember..)
..But hey, Aephorul is a totally cool thing to name your ninja, hehe! It makes for a most interesting thing..
Imagine the shopkeeper's face tho when she sees this ninja who's meant to aid in saving the multiverse, and happens to have the same name as the one who is destroying it.

A Heart of Gold | wip wednesday
lucien x elain
This is my WIP elucien week fic, loosely based on the myth of King Midas. I offer my squawking, ugly little duckling to you all...
💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom of ancient misted forests and seaside cliffs hewn by the hands of time. It was a land where simple mortals and the immortal trickster Fae lived side by side. A place where fantastical beasts roamed all four Seasonal Courts, the Sun and stars aligned in magical Solar Courts, where monsters lurked in Night...
Tumblr media
In this kingdom, there lived a wealthy mortal by the name of Archeron. His vast estate was lined with ancient books and maps, with trunks full of precious gemstones. Cellars of fine wines and spices spoke of his travels. He was known to all as the Prince of Merchants.
The lord had three daughters, each more lovely than the last. And they lived a good life. But over the years, Archeron grew dissatisfied with his own prosperity, wanting more. He watched the Fae to the North of the Wall through glittering, greedy eyes, how they amassed great fortunes over their immortal lifetimes, and grew jealous of their elemental magic. The mortal man coveted such raw power.
So, he sailed his fleet of trading vessels along perilous coastlines, through choppy seas. He sought out faster, more dangerous routes to transport his goods. He gambled with his wealth, taking great risks for small rewards.
And then, in a single day, the Prince of Merchants, lost his crown. The missive came after noon. His eldest daughter, Nesta, had just finished her dance lessons. The youngest, Feyre, was running wild on the grounds. And Elain, his sweet Elain, was tending the gardens.
Lord Archeron held the missive in hand. Lost. Every vessel crashed upon the rocks. The tempests of the Continent had taken them. He knew the risks. The shorelines surrounding Bharat were fraught with peril. But the straights had guaranteed the fastest return for his investment, and Archeron was in vast sums of debt, had borrowed too much.
For the Prince of Merchants loved gold. Coffers filled, pockets lined. Threads of gold along his bed linens, to fill his dreams. He wanted it ringing his fingers, and cuffing his daughters’ wrists. There was never enough. Now, there was none.
As if on cue, Elain, entered with the tea, the fine porcelain clinking as she set it down. She took in his drawn face, parchment clutched in hand. “Papa? What's happened?”
The Prince of Merchants dropped to his chair, head in hands, the letter in his fist.
Elain knelt at his side. “What’s happened?” Her troubled eyes, the soft brown of a meadowlark. “Please.”
Nesta entered with a rustle of skirts and a clip of her heels. “Elain? What are you doing on the floor?” The eldest walked with the strength of steel and the grace of fire. A savage, beautiful creature, she unapologetically peeled back artifice, like the sharpest of blades.
“It’s Papa. He’s not well.” Elain’s graceful hands, with their chipped fingernails and scratched palms from clearing the garden, took the letter from their father’s.
She passed it to Nesta, who rapidly read across the page, then ground out, “how could you?” Archeron’s shoulders slumped forward. Sad brown eyes stared at the floor. “How could you be so greedy, so foolish? Make such bad choices?” Silver flames flickered in the eldest sister’s gaze.
He looked up at his two eldest, and whispered, “I am ruined.”

Some Sunless Sea (Chapter 1)
Pairing: captain!Hongjoong x gn!welder!reader
Plot/Theme: After Death of The Outsider/Magical Steampunk
Warning: English is not my first language
Word Count: 1.8k
Author-note: I’m new ATINY so I don't quite grasp the concept of the group and their characters. The MC is supposedly my mute OC but I will make it as general as possible becoming Y/N.
Genre-note: It could be “Romantic or Platonic” according to your interpretations. I take a lot of details from Dishonored (video game) and inspirations from Treasure Planet (movie) settings.
Hongjoong : captain
Seonghwa : navigator
Yunho : quarter master
Yeosang : surgeon
San : gun slinger
Mingi : sail master
Wooyoung : cook
Jongho : boatswain
“The High Artificer has found a way to melt the stars.” - Yunho
"You have lost to politics." - Seonghwa
"Even though they made a discovery, they will keep them from anyone. That kept each nation from developing itself, industrially and militarily." - Yeosang
"What makes people want to reach space?" - Mingi
"We have an untouchable ocean and unexplorable continent." - Seonghwa
“It really sounds legendary but honestly I think it’s not more than a tale.” - Jongho
"There are land whales and flying serpents in Pandyssia. People will not crawl on the moon any time soon." - San
"So, we can't get this ship to fly? What if the tale is true?" - Wooyoung
“That person must be working in restricted areas.” - Mingi
"You mean The High Artificer?" - Yunho
"Yup." - Mingi
“We can break all the curbs and blast them.” - San
"How can we get richer than the Empire when you turn all coins into fire?!". - Wooyoung
As usual, the crew banter while Hongjoong takes his time admiring the sunset. The energy shifts between day and night. A renewal moment for the notorious pirate captain.
"Should we go for an inspection? We have already reached Gristol." - Seonghwa asks Hongjoong.
"I heard his name was Bartholomew. But I assumed he died and has been replaced by someone more proficient." - Hongjoong
"Well a lot is happening after the young Empress rule again." - Yunho
"She is known as The Just, The Clever." - Mingi
[A while later]
"We're arriving in Potterstead." - Mingi
"I thought we are meeting the Empress in Dunwall." - Wooyoung
"Well, I shall crown you the Emperor first." - Hongjoong
[After loading in port]
"San and I will go to the black market. Seonghwa and Wooyoung will go to the fresh market. Yeosang and Yunho will go for maintenance supplies. Mingi and Jongho will go looking for extra janitors."  - Hongjoong
"Okay time for non-sailing job." - Mingi
[At the black market]
"Hyung, are we lost?" - S
"This is exploration, San." - H
"The town looks crowded." - S
"It's a busy business port." - H
"Look, hyung, I can see the sign." - S
"Finally." - H [Rush]
The shopkeeper is intrigued by the new faces. "Oh, welcome, how can I help you?"
Underground, Hongjoong can distinguish shabby and tidy appearance. This person seems rather natty for a black market shopkeeper (BMS).
"Yes, let me have a look." - S
After San gets some ammunities, Hongjoong notices a wristbow from the shopkeeper's sleeve.
"Can I commission the weapon on your wrist?" - H
"Sorry, Sir. This is not for sale." - BMS
"Why not?" - H
"It requires a masterwork blueprint." - BMS
"How much does it cost to make yours?" - H
"Smashing smoke, some sorcery, and special steel." - BMS
"I see, it requires delicate work and material. I will grant your price." - H
"1000 coins for a six day process." - BMS
"How about I give you 2000 so I can get it in three days?" - H
"I will try for a sneaky businessman." - BMS
Hongjoong grabs one of the shop bar, putting a gold ingot on the counter. His sudden move makes the shopkeeper study his face.
"Do you need my name for it?" - H
"Only if you want your name on the wristbow." - BMS
"You can put 'DESTINY' on it." - H
"Alright Mr. Destiny. May you always look sharp." - BMS
Sharp, Hongjoong likes that. Unfortunately, San is still concentrating on how to remember their way back to the ship and doesn't catch his captain smirking a little on the way.
"I hope we can meet again outside the Velentzas (secured shop counter bars brand)." - H in his mind
"Any good news from the streets?" - San
"A bunch of loud, affectionate, and tired men." - Seonghwa
"The Empress has ordered the dissolution of Abbey." - Yunho
"HA??" - Wooyoung
"The High Overseer became insane and a mess showed up." - Yeosang
"What mess?" - Mingi
"After Emily Kaldwin announced the dissolution of the Abbey of the Everyman, Void rifts appeared shortly." - Seonghwa
"Void rifts?" - Wooyoung
"A crack between two worlds." - Yunho
"That sounds like a harmless portal." - Jongho
"No, it is destroying everything in its path." - Yunho
"Wait, that means no High Overseer, no High Artificer." - Yeosang
"They are all gone! We can't go to space!" - Wooyoung
"Is this the end of the world? The end of Aarde?" - San
"Why is there a Void rift in the first place." - Hongjoong
"I heard from a mercenary that the Outsider is no more. " - Mingi
"How do you know that?" - Hongjoong
"I rented her skiff. She told me to be cautious about the current situation." - Mingi
"There are dangers lurking." - Seonghwa
"This is too much fear for a short time. I need my rich sleep time." - Wooyoung
"Why does the Isle suddenly go into pieces?" - Yunho
"It is not suddenly, it is gradually expected like the Roseburrow Industries." - Hongjoong
From my understanding of the Empire, Dunwall holds the refining processes necessary to give whale oil its full potential. The disappearance of whale oil as a power source evokes the discovery of another type of fuel. We only see slaughterhouses in Karnaca, but no oil refinery. As I see it, the companies in Dunwall and the ruling Empress, or Emperor, before controlled the state of industrialism of each nation by keeping that science for themselves. But the whales started to become scarce around quickly, which led to a whale oil rationing by official decree by now.
The next day, Hongjoong and Jongho went to the Estate District.
"We're going to deliver goods for the Boyles." - H
"They're still in business?" - J
"The plague makes some of the richest getting richer." - H
(Arriving at the Estate District)
"Such a fine estuary." - J
"That's why we dress up nicely today." - H
"Why are they watching us?" - J
"High treasure, high patrol." - H
Hongjoong shows the guard his cameo with the name "EE" and a figure. The guard recognises it as Emperor Euhorn special seal.
"Let them pass." - Guard
"How did you get that thing?" - H
"A collection of my treasure." - J
Reaching the Boyle's mansion, they are welcomed by the sight of a beautiful garden, white stone building, and clean air much different from the port atmosphere. A woman in a fine suit approaches them.
"Captain Hongjoong." - Lydia
They sit at the garden chairs.
"Lady Boyle. Thank you for the hospitality." - H
"Oh I am sorry, the house is still on preparation for a party." - L
"The Pennant Festival?" - H
"Yes. I hope it will be frolic after people recover from the plague. It has never been the same since those days. I'm sure the world will recover." - L
"I hope so." - H
"So, what can I help you with?" - L
"I come to deliver the oud wood from the Pandyssian desert. It already extracted for convenient use. Your package." - H
"Oh, thank you. I remember also to give you this." She hands a letter with the Chief of the City Watch seal, Samantha Nathaniels.
"This can make you enter Dunwall with your ship. And also this" She hands a pouch of pearls and ingots.
"I can make my mansion scented otherworldly for the party. Memorable." - L
"Thank you. We shouldn't take too much of your time." - H
"You should come in two days. I cordially invite you and your friends may come too." Lydia hands an invitation.
"Should I bring any surprises?" - H
"I heard that pirates sing sea shanties the magical way." - L
"You expect a performance." - H
"Many talented people gone, to be honest, I also wonder what kind of adventure you can bring out of the ship." - L
They excuse theirself from the mansion area.
"Let's get some stuff first." - H
"What stuff? A map?" - J
"Another blueprint and yes, a rundown map of the Festival." - H
"What kind of blueprint?" - J
"One I commissioned from The Royal Morley Constabulary." - H
"A military grade? San will be delighted." - J
(I can't interpret from the game and wiki perspective what kind of status is Lady Boyle in the story. At first, I thought they were three wives of Lord Boyle. After I learn again, they are sisters or different women, idk. But, I take their personality to my story, not accurate with the game plot.)

"Wait, it was a water desalination unit?" - Jongho
"Yeah, we need fresh water." - Hongjoong
"I thought it was a weapon or bomb." - San
"Why?" - Wooyoung
"Because we are not spending the rest of our life with sea water for bath." - Seonghwa
"It's time to not get stinky." - Yunho
"It's just a fragment. We need a real engineer." - Hongjoong
"Or we can make Wooyoung goes to engineering school." - Mingi
"But, Mingi is smart." - Wooyoung
"Can we just extract the knowledge somewhere?" - Yeosang
"How about everyone gets a copy and look around town so we can get a person who can actually work with it." - Hongjoong
"I'm not going." - Mingi
"Whoever has the result first can…." - Hongjoong
(This sentence turn on their competitive brain and all of them all gone)

At night, the black market shopkeeper (you) takes a stroll to a nearby tidal creek. You have made a small battery from salt water. It started with making voltameter from an industrial commission. Saltwater batteries have a lower energy density than whale oil tanks, meaning they store less energy in the same amount of space. But you decide this option is more cost efficient especially for the increasing whale scarcity and the official restrictions.
It is absolutely revolting scenery especially with the darkness and smell. You wish you could feel mountain quality fresh water.
"Ubun-Ubun." You called your familiar ride. A magical whale shark with stars sparkling across its body. You fly to harvest some water from the clouds instead with your magic.
Gristol is a temperate land known for its rolling green hills and foggy meadows. Spending time in the air is always refreshing. Unfortunately you can't do this during the day time. People might get panicked. It feels like stealing the rain.
Neither of you or your ride sense the presence of a flying ship. Well, there are no street lights up here. You didn't notice but Hongjoong saw you. He put his spyglass down. No words, he only gazes at the sky with a wonder-struck face.

The Archive
Thunder rolls far beyond, resounding across an endless sea. The ocean crashes upon an island's sheer and jagged cliffs. And on this island, that forsaken hunk of ancient stone cradled in boundless sea and thundering sky, sits the Archive.
The Archive contains mathematical theorems written by the first scholars of the desert lands, and blueprints for vast machines dreamt by visionary artificers. It is a library of genius. The Archive contains forbidden esoterica, and secrets whispered to mad prophets in twilight hours. It is a vault of arcane power. The Archive contains maps of all the stars ever born, all the lands ever roamed, all the children of creation. It is a store of wonder.
For all it contains, the Archive serves as a bastion of memory. Its bricks, whose clay was made wet by tears and made stone by hellfire, were laid by the tireless constructs of yore. Each brick remembers the life cut down to make it, each cry of a widow or whimper of her young. And within those walls, anything known by man, beast, or god is recorded in a book for future retrieval.
The Archive, its name long dead with the poor soul who drafted its layout, is a structure erected aeons ago by sleepless builders, housing all the knowledge ever conceived. Its spires reach tall into the terrible night, grasping for a semblance of starlight unreachable by mortal-laid stone. Along the outer walls of the Archive, facing forever to the moon, are cast a row of stained-glass windows depicting strange geometries.
The moon, in accordance with her cyclical temperament, shines angles of light that refract through these geometries. While within her candle-wax humours, the windows filter light such to display small creatures of the pasture, mirages of wonder and fondness. And while the moon is within her waning and hollow humors, the glass bends to a crueler will and spawns countenances of nightmare and shadow.
These monsters blur the quality of their own outline, substance uncertain against the aether of being, demeanor hostile to the concept of life. Countless visitors to the Archive have become lost in its labyrinthine halls, devoured by phantoms whose rasping bellows call to mind a place that never was.
There once was a Librarian who lived within this grand and damnable Archive. None knew his name, even if such a thing could ever have been important. The Librarian was brilliant, he knew the home and content of every book in his domain. The Archive, as a result, was kept in impeccable and pristine condition. It was a monument of glory and brilliance sought by all in the kingdom of men, holding texts on still-fresh vellum and ink retrieved with lightning swiftness. That is, until came the inexorable end of the Librarian.
The Librarian, alone in his keep, was driven mad by visions of shadows that stalked the Archive's halls. Stalked by shadows that never were, he sought the cold embrace of the deep below. His fall was unremarkable, the splash of his body upon the water unseen among the havoc of the waves. Only the tide mourned for him.
And once the Librarian was gone, the shelves grew angry and afraid. They lost their cohesion, books dissolving through higher dimensions and rotating themselves to opposite ends of the complex. No-one can recall the order or material within these texts. Curious men still search the Archive, some to find wisdom of decaying sages, others to map its Escherian routes. Books open, and their pages bleed, their words illegible to the conscious mind. The Archive has lost its glory, containing still all the knowledge there ever was. And all the same, the hallowed sea sings a dirge for the corpse she cradled, and so sway shadows dreamt by glass.
