Youtube recently recommended me to rewatch an old Game of Thrones reactions video from the Burlington Bar. It got me thinking about the TTSBC Travelling Thieves TV show. We know Zed watches it. We know Scott and Jimmy also read the books. Who else is following the show/books? How would a season finale watch party at Lizzie and Joel's bakery look like? What could be a good season finale episode? I'd love to see that, honestly...
That would be so much fun!
Yeah, the whole idea of TT being a Game of Thrones-y novel and TV series in TTSBC was just so funny to me I couldn't pass it up. I like to think everyone has seen or at least heard about it to some extent, kind of like Game of Thrones when it was at it's height, so the idea of a season finale watchparty or Scott comparing the books to the live action adaptation, all of it would be so much fun!

In response to the shooting, U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries encouraged people to “unequivocally denounce the startling rise of anti-Arab hate and Islamophobia in America.” “No one should ever be targeted for their ethnicity or religious affiliation in our country,” the New York Democrat said in the statement posted on X. “We will not let hatred win.” Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Independent, also denounced the shooting. “It is shocking and deeply upsetting that three young Palestinians were shot here in Burlington, VT. Hate has no place here, or anywhere. I look forward to a full investigation,” Sanders said in a statement. Gov. Phil Scott called the shooting a tragedy, calling on the state’s residents to unite and “not let this incident incite more hate or divisiveness.” The Vermont-New Hampshire chapter of Jewish Voice For Peace, which has urged an end to the Israel-Hamas war, released a statement saying it was “appalled by the shooting.”

Financial advisor spent $900K from client on country club, cars, authorities say
A financial advisor out of Moorestown was sentenced to seven years in state prison Wednesday for stealing some $900,000 a client had given him to invest and putting it toward lavish personal expenses, authorities said.
Tumblr media
Brian Murphy, 47, of Hainesport, pleaded guilty to misapplication of entrusted property and failure to pay New Jersey state income taxes, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. The charges carried seven and three year sentences, respectively, which Murphy will served concurrently.
He must also repay the former client $890,000 in restitution and surrender his license, authorities said.
Murphy previously worked under the business Murphy Financial Advisors, and began receiving money from the client to invest in mutual funds in 2011, according to the prosecutor's office.
Instead of investing the money as promised, Murphy used it to cover personal and business expenses, buying a country club membership, private school tuition and cars, authorities said.
The client, who sent Murphy money for several years, became suspicious when he or she did not receive financial statements, authorities said. When pressed, Murphy sent the client fraudulent statements, which the client could not verify upon contacting the investment firm, authorities said.
After the client confronted Murphy, he came to the client's home, and brought paperwork stating that the client had agreed to loan Murphy the money, according to the prosecutor's office.
Further investigation into Murphy found that he underreported his income in 2012, 2014 and 2015, and failed to pay state income taxes in 2013, authorities said.
"This sentence reflects the seriousness of this substantial fraud," Prosecutor Scott Coffina said in a statement. "Let it serve as a reminder that we will vigorously prosecute financial advisors and anyone else who steals money entrusted to them by a client."

I want to thank whichever one of you recommended me that Scott Wolven short story collection. I bought it and have been steadily chipping through it as I have all the other selections in my giant tote bag, and it’s marvelous. So much of the crime fiction in my diet centers around these major coastal American cities so it’s been refreshing and almost exotic to like… languish in the bleakness of Burlington, Vermont with haunted ex-cons and violent biker meth-heads. Really beautiful, harrowing, poignant stuff. I’m sorry he hasn’t published much more beyond this. He strikes the same chord with me that Raymond Carver does which is no small feat.

So sorry if you've answered this before, but I was thinking about the Dankworths and it made me wonder... what are the Burlingtons like?
Haha, no worries! I've yet to elaborate on the Burlingtons so I'm glad you asked!
Much like their son turned out to be, construction worker Scott and florist Michaela are an easy-going middle-aged couple who have been together since their late teenage years in the early 80s. They're like a matching pair of socks. Scott is not the smartest man, but he has guts and the strong hands of a builder. Keith gets his humor and good-looks from him. Michaela on the other hand, is no person to meddle with. She's smart and cunning, and has a keen eye for beauty, charm, and lies. Unfortunately, Keith does not get his mother's sharp mind, but rather her sharp eyes for beauty.
Scott's and Michaela's respective families were never very supportive of them when they first got married, so they moved away from the city they grew up and met in to a more quieter town by the countryside where they would have their only son Keith.
One could argue they're almost like Keith and Cherry, just with more braincells

NASA’s Chandra Notices the Galactic Center is Venting
Tumblr media
These images show evidence for an exhaust vent attached to a chimney releasing hot gas from a region around the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, as reported in our latest press release. In the main image of this graphic, X-rays from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory (blue) have been combined with radio data from the MeerKAT telescope (red).
Previously, astronomers had identified a “chimney” of hot gas near the Galactic Center using X-ray data from Chandra and ESA’s XMM-Newton. Radio emission detected by MeerKAT shows the effect of magnetic fields enclosing the gas in the chimney.
The evidence for the exhaust vent is highlighted in the inset, which includes only Chandra data. Several X-ray ridges showing brighter X-rays appear in white, roughly perpendicular to the plane of the Galaxy. Researchers think these are the walls of a tunnel, shaped like a cylinder, which helps funnel hot gas as it moves upwards along the chimney and away from the Galactic Center.
A labeled version of the image gives the locations of the exhaust vent, the chimney, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy (called Sagittarius A*, or Sgr A* for short) and the plane of the galaxy.
This newly discovered vent is located near the top of the chimney about 700 light-years from the center of the Galaxy. To emphasize the chimney and exhaust vent features the image has been rotated by 180 degrees from the conventional orientation used by astronomers, so that the chimney is pointed upwards.
The authors of the new study think that the exhaust vent formed when hot gas rising through the chimney struck cooler gas lying in its path. The brightness of the exhaust vent walls in X-rays is caused by shock waves — similar to sonic booms from supersonic planes — generated by this collision. The left side of the exhaust vent is likely particularly bright in X-rays because the gas flowing upwards is striking the tunnel wall at a more direct angle and with more force than other regions.
The researchers determined that the hot gas is most likely coming from a sequence of events involving material falling towards Sgr A*. They think eruptions from the black hole then drove the gas upwards along the chimneys, and out through the exhaust vent.
It is unclear how often material is falling onto Sgr A*. Previous studies have indicated that dramatic X-ray flares take place every few hundred years at or near the location of the central black hole, so those could play important roles in driving the hot gas upwards through the exhaust vent. Astronomers also estimate that the Galactic black hole rips apart and swallows a star every 20,000 years or so. Such events would lead to powerful, explosive releases of energy, much of which would be destined to rise through the chimney vent.
The paper describing these results is published in The Astrophysical Journal and a preprint is available online. The authors of the paper are Scott Mackey (University of Chicago), Mark Morris (University of California, Los Angeles), Gabriele Ponti (Italian National Institute of Astrophysics in Merate ), Konstantina Anastasopoulou (Italian National Institute of Astrophysics in Palermo), and Samaresh Mondal (Italian National Institute of Astrophysics in Merate).
NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center manages the Chandra program. The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory’s Chandra X-ray Center controls science operations from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and flight operations from Burlington, Massachusetts.
