would love a scene of someone who doesn’t take percy or his physical strength seriously and then getting their shit rocked. imagine them getting percy all worked up and pissed off, and then smiling and taunting him; “what, you wanna hit me big guy? go ahead.” and then percy punching them, which throws them like 10 feet back, breaks their nose, and fully dislocates their jaw. because they didn’t realize that percy is actually extremely strong (which is canon)

but alas, none of that will ever happen because percy isn’t allowed to be impressive or intimidating anymore

Carl Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

All you young 'uns out there: forget that very lame early 2000's remake series, and hunt down the original (it's streaming on several services, including Amazon, Peacock, and Roku).

This series - along with the two television movies that spawned it (The Night Stalker, 1972, and The Night Strangler, 1973) - was the scariest thing on television at the time. It is also one of the primary influences on the creation of The X-Files.

The fact that Kolchak: The Night Stalker aired at 10pm on Friday nights made it even scarier, for me at least. I was usually home on Fridays, babysitting my younger siblings who had early bedtimes, so I was the only one awake in the house. And we lived in a very rural area with no streetlights, with a very large (2,500+ acres), scary forest across the street that all the kids in the neighborhood swore housed at least one Bigfoot. So yeah, I made sure there were a lot of lights on when I watched this show.

Heck, even today I get chills down my spine when I hear the theme music.

Feeling unsafe is not the same as being unsafe and people are unable to distinguish between the two - you always have a right to be safe, but you do not necessarily have the right to always feel safe. This is an underlying theme in a lot of issues, like judging others' kinks, queerness, race, media analysis, and more; what the real heart of the problem is is unfamiliarity, things that people do not know and thus shrink away from in fear or disgust or discomfort. It can be a basic instinct to approach change and unfamiliarity with caution, but it needs to be an intentional act to challenge that fear/world view. It is something that we owe to the people around us, and that we owe to ourselves.
