[ID: Redraw of a scene from Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, where Scar’s brother shields Scar from Kimblee. Only here, the former is crying and sweating desperately, while the latter stands down after his face and arm were blown up. Scar’s brother has tattoos all over his body. The two are in the middle of the desert. /End ID]

Hey, I'm a graduate of UGA. and I was horrified to see students being arrested and penalized for pro-Palestine protests. I called Sharon Scarbro, the current Director of Student Affairs, and once I mentioned "I've been hearing some worrying things on the news" she hung up on me. I called again and was answered by a student advisor, who told me she couldn't really do anything and that these students were violating code of conduct! What violation they committed is unknown!
Just letting you know that a college I used to love is complicit in the Palestinian genocide! Why not email her after she hangs up on you?

Probably only of interest to @theredkite and @x4vn unless there are any other old Shadovald people still active on here? Or people who really want an insight into how we used to plan events. (It's probably not that suprising that I've turned out such a plotter as a writer, given that I kind of was the timetabling-and-throughline-tracking person for the best-recieved creative project I've ever been involved in...)
Long story short, we had to move the things out of the corner that contained my most egregious 'ADHD pile' (you know, where you put a load of stuff somewhere and stop thinking about it) the other week, and I've comitted to slowly going through it. Found some things in a notebook... I think it was the first event, because on a later page I have 'don't forget banner' and 'does scarbro have tesco?'
This isn't my handwriting - for some reason I think it might be Rhys's, but I couldn't swear to it.
Tumblr media
These two are my handwriting... I'm not sure why ritari aren't on there since we'd obviously written them by then.

no kiss downstairs 40 minutes to speak to Joseph Mann – could have had the pit down in May if Holt had had the drift ready for him – talks of boring which will take 2 months and cost 7/. per yard – driving done in about 3 months at 5/. a year about 150 yards to drive – then had Pickels - A- had Mrs Graves and Pearson to beg (in vain) for them to stay – that breakfast not over till 11 ¼ - very fine morning F48 ½° at 11 ¼ am  – had put my pelisse on in my hurry to go downstairs this morning – changed my dress and did up my writing case and wished my aunt goodbye, and just ready when Mrs and Miss Bramely called on A- - this delayed us about ¼ hour - that not off till 12 5 - A- went with me as far as the post office – no letter for her – she would return up the old bank – set her down and drove off at 12 ¼ - passed the turnpike at the feet of Blackstone edge and immediately alighted at 1 35 and in 25 minutes walked to the top, past the canal reservoir, and got into the carriage again not far from the Inn at the commencement of the descent – at the Roebuck Rochdale at 2 38 – got out – in 14 minutes there – off again at 2 52 and at Manchester Royal hotel at 4 20 – took Eugenie inside and off in 7 minutes – at Wilmslow at 6 2 – off in 4 minutes and at Congleton at 8 5 – got out – off in 6 minutes and at Lawton at 9  i.e. 8 ¾ by their clocks shewning to π- ‘s room and she soon came nervous  sobbing but she got over it pretty soon and well – had a couple of nice little mutton chops and then coffee - Mr L- just came in for a minute or 2 but finding we were still going to have coffee said he had had tea, went back to the dining room and we saw him no more - M- and I sat talking till 11 35 by Halifax – she gave me the history of Martha Booth – not good – her head full of novels that she had read before coming to M- and her principles spoilt by the bad examples of 2 successive cooks – had been deceitful – was too much sat up – Mrs Duff, the new and excellent housekeeper here, might not be able to keep her - but Mrs Duff to give me Martha’s character - M- not to tell me anything - I said if Martha left here I should have nothing more to say to her – M- then gave me the history of Miss Crewe (Offley C-‘s daughter) going to marry her father’s pennyless, bloodless curate Mr Wedgewood nephew to ‘Wedgewood ware’ and Lady VC- not writing to inquire after a child of 3 weeks etc I never felt less in love’s danger I thought π- prosy but this was better than the way she talked in at first despairing and as if the sooner she died the better she would not listen to my proofs that she herself had had things between us all her own way however I would not give up the point tho’ I pressed it gently I was very affectionate spoken kindly of Mr Crewe and said I would do anything in the world I could for her but there was no love in my manner or thoughts I merely thought I was glad this was at an end and that I was as I was talked of the Norcliffes and Mrs Milne’s sarcastic manner which seems to have shewn itself to M- at Scarbro’ - M- said she always appeared to know all about me whether she did know anything or not - she had talked at Leamington of her great anxiety to see Lady Vere as the most particular friend of her  π-‘s most particular friend! I have guessed right π- does not want to lose the éclat of my friendship Dr H.S.B- much hurt that I had not inquired after Percy as M- calls and as I said I should therefore call her – said the truth was I had really not thought of it - true said M- but I must have you lose their interest in her to which I said nothing particular in reply mentioned Doctor B-’s telling Mr Freeman I was one of the most intimate friends he had but did not dwell upon it or make any comment yet I think π- noticed the thing and perhaps fancied it not to my taste however her manner of speaking of Vere is liable to the same sort of remark of my part  she says she Vere is cold mannered and has no heart and they all at Leamington think so but it is right in me to defend her π- came upstairs with me to my room and staid ten minutes a little nervous again and hung on me and went off   talks of giddiness in her head and not living long but I said I should do her good in fact as I shrewdly hinted I shall not be the death of her thank god I am as I am  I thought very little of π- as I came along and never felt more calm -  very fine day till one tonight wrote all but the five 1st lines of today - till 1 ½ wrote 2 pages to A- to go tomorrow – account of my journey – good account of things

So, I think it’s fairly obvious that Scar and his brother are a parallell to the Elric brothers. Both are alchemical geniuses where the older brother kind of invents a new concept of alchemy, the younger brother is a better fighter and likes small cute animals, and the older brother sacrifices his right arm to save the life of the younger brother, just to name a few.
However, I’ve been thinking that maybe the similarities between the two sets of brothers go even further. While their personalities are different I think some of their values might have been the same, particularly when it comes to fighting/killing. In another post I made I theorised how in the manga it’s highly likely that Scar was a pragmatic pacifist who was against killing up until he killed the Rockbells (an act he performed due to extreme trauma + mistaking them for the enemy).
Where I’m going with this is that I think the question “what would it take for the Elrics to actually kill someone?” is answered in Scar. What would it take for them to throw away their morals and take people’s lives? To lose everything they’ve ever valued.
But that’s just some thoughts. :P

[ID: digital portrait of Scar and his brother from Fullmetal Alchemist, specifically the 2003 version. In this adaptation, the brothers have a significant age difference and both have dark brown hair instead of white - Scar is a young boy, likely a pre-teen, while his brother is a young adult. Scar wears several cloths over a dark brown shirt, whereas his brother owns a white dress shirt. They’re both smiling at the viewer, the elder brother’s hand placed on Scar’s shoulder. They’re in front of a cloudy blue sky. /End ID]
still thinking about these two brothers... I imagine how their lives were before.
