Books For People Who Liked Leverage and White Collar

I've always been a big non-fiction reader, and I'm particularly fond of frauds, scams, and white collar crime. Ever since I finished White Collar last year, I've been meaning to pull together a collection of related books. As you'll quickly learn if you dive into this list, the truth is often wilder than fiction. (A lot more FBI agents yelling FUCK YOU!! at each other across board room tables, for one thing.)

IMPORTANT! Please don't pirate! It hurts authors. Most of these books are available through your local library, including as e-books. You can help local bookstores by purchasing through bookshop dot org, or as audiobooks through libro dot fm.

Category #1: Stand Outs and All-Time Favorites

Bad Blood reads like a thriller, and I genuinely mean that. It's gripping, it's incredible reporting, it's just a jaw-dropping story. Theranos was one of the biggest corporate frauds in history, and Carreyrou masterfully details its rise and fall. Not to spoil what could be considered the book's big twist, but there's no one better to write it, either.

Empire of Pain is also masterful reporting by a well-regarded journalist, but it leans more family drama than thriller. This details the personal machinations that helped create the opioid crisis in America. [Leverage: Redemption 1x1, which IIRC was actually written before the Met removed the Sackler name from their exhibits. Also goes well paired with The Fall Of The House Of Usher.]

Rogues: True Stories of Grifters, Killers, Rebels and Crooks is a collection of Radden Keefe's writing for The New Yorker. It explores wine crime (Leverage 5x13 and White Collar 1x12 directly draw from this), a passionate defense attorney, whistle blowers, hit men, and international organized crime. While I recommend the book, much of this content is available for free at newyorker dot com / contributors / patrick-radden-keefe (you can use paywallreader dot com to legally get around the paywall).

Number Go Up moves quickly and is full of fascinating characters and unexpected celebrity cameos. You've got your cringe rappers, your coke-on-a-yacht billionaires, your Harry Potter rationalist poly cult. Seriously, I wish I could read this again for the first time.

Category #2: Odd, "Cozy", Strange

The Feather Thief covers a unique crime by a 20-year-old obsessed with fly fishing.

The Art Thief tells the story of Stéphane Bréitwieser, the most prolific art thief of all time. He stole during the day, from museums full of people, again and again - over 200 times, in fact. He kept his treasures in his bedroom. A fascinating portrait of a strange criminal.

Category #3: Grab Bag

Including stuff that's more adjacent to the topic but still of interest, books I got part way through, and books that are still on my TBR.

Chickenshit Club I'm part way through and enjoying, Never Split the Difference is GREAT and includes lots of true hostage negotiating stories, Fancy Bear Goes Phishing I couldn't get into but that could be because I don't need two pages of text explaining what a string is. (I'm planning on giving it another go.)

Anansi's Gold and The Corporation are both on my TBR; Con Queen of Hollywood is a riveting con story for the first half but gets a little bogged down in biography in the second half.

The Confidence Game is on my TBR and is a classic of the genre, Molly's Game is one of my partner's favorite books, and The Gospel Of Wellness does a great job at exposing how scammy the entire wellness industry is.

Genuinely there are SO many more books I could have included, and I might do another post at some point. Some books were left off intentionally, because I didn't care for them or because another book did it better. Some books were left off simply because my white collar/fraud/cons TBR is extensive and I can't include everything! And some were left off simply because I don't know about them. I'm always looking for quality non-fiction - please do share any related recommendations in the notes.

This was my first creature art for the roblox game i’m helping on called Legends of Pandora, and it taught me a LOT about how to translate colors into my style

This was my first ever painting commission, and was the first time i’ve ever used gold foil and textures for paintings. Unfortunately I kinda got scammed with it, but the experience was still pretty awesome. I think the final products still looks pretty great in their room too!

This is one of a whole group of sculptures I made for my senior show for highschool! I graduated last summer, and wanted to try something new so I decided to go all out. I did sculpts, felting, and some wire art, but this cheetah is by far my favorite.

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE ART TRADE IVE DONE SO FAR!! I pushed myself a LOT with this one, I made a rendered piece with a dynamic pose, I actually tried a background for once, I tried drawing water for once, I used layer modes like multiply and lighten and stuff, and I even used a noise screen for it! This was a fun challenge

These were from a batch of my first time using Ink and paintbrushes andAHHH I honestly loved it. If i had the money for my own supplies, I’d absolutely use this again!!

THIS WAS MY FIRST 3D ENVIRONMENT!! I MADE THIS TWO WEEKS AGO AND I AM VERY PROUD!! I modeled EVERYTHING! Except the water but I taught myself how to set up the nodes for it!

AAANNNDDD my favorite character will always be Piper or Bentley, who belong in the same universe but aren’t directly connected (Piper knows Bentleys brother instead) She’s a goofball and I adore her, and all of the characters I made around her, Bentley and Maddox. Also also if you meant character as preexisting character from some sort of media haha oops, i ran out of image space. I don’t often draw characters, but it’s probably art of Hancock from Fallout, who I used to teach myself new shading methods. Can you tell I try a lot of weird/random things and end up getting happy with how they turn out?

Do you have any tip (or like a book rec) for composition and/or perspective? I'd like to improve that skills but I dont even know where to start 😭

Oh boy, I'm not sure if the way I do it is the best way 🥲. I avoid studying art like the plague in the traditional sense. I don't look up tutorials, read art books, or use grids for perspectives because I straight up don't understand them. That way of working, where you break down the steps in such a methodical way, doesn't work for me. The few times I've tried to use a grid, it ended up looking so wrong to me, and I couldn't make it work, hah! Whenever I've tried to take a 'study' approach to my art, it has stunted my progress and taken the joy out of it.

I wing it a lot. Sometimes I take photos of various items like cups and books and use them as perspective lines because I like a very tactile and hands-on approach to feeling out the composition in real life. The same goes for reference photos for anatomy —I try to understand it in a physical way by moving around myself and sometimes filming or taking photos of myself, but most of the time, I just wing it!

For this piece, I just closed my eyes and prayed. One of the easiest ways for me to build up a composition, is by stacking things and avoiding the floor (it's basically cheating, hah). It makes it look like you know what you're doing when really, you don't. I stacked the front of the boat in front of the mast, which is in front of the tentacle, and so on. Then I just gradually made things smaller as they moved further away until it felt right, rather than being accurate. And if you tilt the composition a bit (this one tilts a bit to the left) and make the characters overlap, then BAM, it looks like it's all intentional.

For this one, I took a picture of the bottom corner of my shelf with a wide-angle, to get the floor right because my brain couldn't comprehend it 🤔

I do study art somewhat by actively observing and breaking down pieces I love that are made by other artists. For example, when I started drawing my comic, I read all of One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist and took my time to understand their panelling and the tricks they used. I'd stop and look at a page, really taking my time to understand how they were telling the story. I was surprised to find that sometimes they barely drew anything at all for several panels, yet I was never in doubt about who was talking and where they were.

I think, by looking at my art, you can tell that I grew up with Oda's illustrations. I still love how vibrant and well-composed they are, especially how he plays with perspective until it feels right and looks amazing, even if it doesn’t always make anatomical or logical sense. That's the vibe I'm going for as well—just mashing things around until I feel good about it.

One thing that really helped me was letting go of the idea that it has to be perfect or always make sense. For example, this Halloween piece is one of my personal favorites, but if you look at Dakon's foot for too long, you can tell that it's way too small and doesn't match the perspective at all. However, I was satisfied with the overall feeling of the piece, so I just left it.

The only time I've ever "studied" anything art-related was when I went to film school for animation and learned how to animate in 3D, and let me tell you, what a fucking scam. You can learn all of that, and more, just by watching YouTube videos (which I did, lol).

I feel like that wasn't very helpful at all 😭 Is there a particular piece you're curious about, maybe? I'm always ready to break down my pieces and explain how I go about composing them!

A bunch of ink studies and sketches.

I love Tiny's nose. It's so fun to draw. And I think I'm getting a handle on drawing him as a kid. He's an adorable little weirdo with a thousand-yard stare.

Ravio is another one of my favorite Zelda characters, I like the idea that he's a heavily sarcastic scam artist who also makes one of the most harrowing ethical choices ever seen in a Zelda game. While wearing a bunny hood. Also Sheerow is the most competent one on the top row.

I've been trying to figure out everyone's height in relation to each other, and wow, the downfall and adult timeline Links are tiny. To some extent with video game heights you just have to accept that getting exact values is a fool's errand. Oh sure, you can pull out the model and measure it, but then you have to account for the fact that there's lots of size multipliers applied to models that can change throughout the game, and that the entire world might not quite use the same measurements as ours, plus stylistic differences, and... yeah it's hard. It's pretty clear most Links are tiny (except Tiny, who ends up being huge canonically) and I'm going to make Ravio about 4'7" / 140cm. Since it's hard to reconcile the wide range in sizes of Hylians, I think there's just a tendency for some to be very small, just like the Gerudo have a tendency for some to be very large, and certain ethnic groups have more or less of this. The ones surviving in the harsh environments of flooded and downfall timelines tend to have more of the smaller Hylians.

In the middle we have Link from OG Zelda and Adventure of Link. He's probably even shorter than Ravio. I've given him a Phrygian cap, which is pretty cool and loaded with symbolism. I've also drawn his fairy form, and tried to keep the curly hat shape. He's green because of course, but also a little red for the color shift when he uses the shield spell.

At the bottom we have a rough idea for a shadow beast from Twilight Princess, because they were hugely influential to me and one of my favorite designs ever, though I think I have to refine this further.

leverage is a show in which every episode a crew of five people (mastermind, grifter, hitter, hacker, thief) scam rich assholes out of their money and give that back to the people they harmed!! it started right after the ‘08 financial crisis and oh boy does the hatred towards people who profit off of things that hurt normal people show

every episode is like “please leverage crew i need help this company’s business choices lead to the death of my loved one! i don’t care about money, i just wanna make sure they never hurt other people again :(“ and then the crew do something so insane that it ends up tanking the company’s reputation and the CEO personally is cancelled five times over and the person who asked for help and every other victim get thousands of dollars

it’s also absolutely hilarious and has some really compelling characters- and god watching it for the first time this year it is so refreshing to see a team like this just. be friends with each other?? and not get into conflicts constantly over nothing??? idk their team dynamic really reminds me of 2012 avengers fanfic where they all live together in the same building and hawkeye’s in the vents it’s just really nostalgic to me

and of course the biggest draw: it’s free on youtube baby!!!!!!!!!! here’s a link to the first season, if you like the first episode you’ll like the rest of it (i will say also. they really get better about writing parker and hardison. like the characters are gonna be a little rough in the pilot obvs but god rewatching that ep hardison is so “black character obviously written by white people” and parker has some cringe “lol random” lines)

nate ford - mastermind. an ex-insurance investigator with catholic guilt and an alcohol problem. this character sounds like he would be boring as hell (at least to me) but god he does some weird shit and acts in such a way that makes him somehow endearing

sophie devereaux - grifter. talented actress but ONLY when committing crimes. she particularly loves stealing art. overdramatic queen who loves dressing up and messing with peoples heads.

eliot spencer - hitter. they somehow manage to give him a fight scene in every single episode no matter what i fuckin love it the fight choreography is so good- anyway he’s my favorite character and i don’t know how to describe him concisely honestly.

alec hardison - hacker. young guy in his very early 20s (22 i believe?) who’s a total geek and thinks he’s hot shit (and. he is. he’s really good at what he does) i don’t remember if it’s canon he has ADHD but he does mention a few times he has attention problems and i find him relatable so

parker - thief. an autistic woman who’s special interest is climbing in to air ducts and then stealing all the money she can. genuinely probably the best autistic character i’ve ever seen i love her she’s so silly and heartfelt

So... due to my hyperfixation with a currently-airing bl show, I tried digging into more information about its main actors. I found out... maybe way too much about one of them.

One of them got arrested by Thai Police in 2018 for scamming a Finnish-Thai millionaire couple out of 24 MILLION DOLLARS-worth of cyptocurrency 👀

What in the Ocean's 11 plot is this?! What kind of an interestingly colored past must you have if you keep playing these innocent bambi roles but scamming millionaires left and right?

Instead of hating on this actor, I found I respected him even more 😅 He and his family scammed a 22-year old Finnish millionaire, who also gained his business by trading in other people's questionable cryptocurrency. As far as I'm concerned, it's the rich eating the rich and I'm here for it 🤣🤣🤣

And I know other BL actors have had shady crimes and accusations before (someone from DMD killed his girlfriend--now THAT is sinister), but this one has GOT to be my favorite. Getting arrested is one thing; getting arrested for a failed Ocean's 11 cryptoscam is something else.

And what a messed up moral compass I must have, for apparently I draw the line with murder, domestic abuse, violence, discrimination and bullying. But stealing from other millionaires? A-okay with me.

I'm not gonna put it in the main tags because I don't want to spread any hate since he was released (don't know if this was ever settled, but it looks like it, if he's back in the industry now). I'm putting it under his original name instead. Dig into this rabbithole if you want.

Gotta say! Never expected you to be someone who enjoyed something like LOOK OUTSIDE, but in hindsight, considering your flagship oc is basically boat body horror turned boat body horror but with teeth and eyes and flesh, it isn’t that surprising.

1. Neither did I, but what can I say, I like me some good body horror every once in a while. I watched a video covering the demo a few months ago and was intrigued, but only found out that the finished version had come out out yesterday when I didn’t have 7 or so hours to throw at the no commentary videos I was watching. The writing is stellar, the music and sound design are fantastic, and of course the creature design is top-notch. More spoiler-y thoughts under the cut. Huge recommend to anyone who likes body horror and eldritch horror!

2. PLEASE NOT HIM I CANT LET HIM BE MY FLAGSHIP OC

The teeth family storyline is heartbreaking and really shows the heart of the game with how you’re able to play with the one kid before he completely loses himself, the whole Fredrick storyline is a great mix of sad and hilarious(the way god Fred just drops the act and lights a cigarette when called out on it being a scam was GOLD), not to mention all the character interactions being pretty realistic. I love how even some of the most horrifically warped people are still sane and trying to just live their lives. I love the rat baby thing but honestly my favorite party member is probably the roaches just because of how nonsensical yet charming they are. The way it starts as just one roach writing little messages on a scrap of paper because you didn’t kill it, and then it draws a little picture, and then eventually you get to recruit a bunch of roaches in a trench coat? THE COMPLAINT ABOUT HAVING TO FILE TAXES INDIVIDUALLY? Incredible. Outstanding. 10/10. Not even the apocalypse will save us from taxes I guess.

I appreciate how varied the designs are and how they gradually get more and more fucked up over the course of the story without just universally devolving into incomprehensible gunk— body horror tends to lose my interest when it just gets to the point of just being like, miscellaneous flesh slop with eyes or whatever. At that point it’s less body horror so much as just gross-out horror; if you can’t tell it was ever a body in the first place, and there’s no buildup to it being unrecognizable from a previous state, it isn’t really BODY horror anymore. LOOK OUTSIDE perfectly manages escalating the horror without relying purely on making it more grotesque via the “more eyes more flesh more teeth” route. You get that to some degree, but you also get a monster made almost entirely out of needles, or ones that are made up of one or more people now fused to and spilling out of various twisting pipes, the ones that are just people made of different combinations of hands or fingers, the worms, the security guard fused to a bunch of TV screens and a chair, the meat cars, etc. So much creativity.

Also this is a relatively minor thing but I think a lot of the names are also really good, too; the Cop Car, Typewrither, and Not A Cowboy Hat come to mind, though I’m probably forgetting a lot that appeared earlier. OH YEAH. PHILIPPE. Giving a regular human name to any kind of monster immediately makes it funnier. I want to hit them with a car

- Bernadetta plays the freakiest VN you've ever seen. Nothing wrong woth that, it's just that she won't share the titles

- Mercedes pretend she's all nice and sweet but will absolutely crush you without mercy at any competitive game the moment it start. She's an older sister, fear her

- Dorothea is the kind who get super annoying about VO vs Dub. Also she shush you randomly for certain OST and force you to wait until the whole thing is passed before continuing

- Linhardt is the the friend who doesn't play and does NOTHING during the whole Mariokart race yet keep finishing first without efforts

- Ignatz is the dude everyone hates at Gartic Phone and Skribbl.io because he's actually good at drawing

- Cyril is the little kid you want to impress by beating them at video game yet utterly crush you

- Hubert is 100% a video game elitist who feel his favorite genre is obliviously superior to the rest

One of my recent fics, the priest that you ignored might qualify because the main character of it tries to bait her friends into killing her.

Out of my recent fics it has to be Body Temperature Restored, since Gideon gets brought back from the dead.

One of the major reasons why I no longer post on FFN is, well. Let's say I get 100 reviews over the course of a couple months. 90 of them are those "pay me to draw fanart" scams. 9 are queerphobic hate comments. 1 is genuine.

Meanwhile, AO3 is so much nicer.

The closest I have gotten is fade-to-black foreplay.

Generally no, but I do have a couple crossover plotbunnies hopping around my head.

Once someone offered, but otherwise the closest I've ever gotten is writing a fic in German for my German class, rewriting it in English, and then uploading both versions.

Either Miraculous Ladybug or Tai Chi Chasers. I fist published for ML, but idk how long my TCC fic had been in the works since it was a decade ago.

I guess I'd have to narrow it down to either the longest fic (Destiny's Pawn), my only completed multichap that's longer than a 2-shot (Juliet Dies in This), or first time I wrote the first fic in a fandom (A Burning Helm). Those are the three I'm most proud of for different reasons.

1) Is life going the way that you hoped it would?

"As I hoped it would when? Sepo the junior priest would've killed me on sight if he could witness me now. Sepo the inmate would've wept for joy. Life is going how it's going to go - I just hang on and try not to scream."

2) What is in your pocket right now? Why?

"A knife. For persuading people with boorish manners to shape it up."

3) If you could relive a single minute of your past, what minute would you pick?

"I think, if I could relive any single minute, I'd pick singing with Saius. It's been so long, but I could never forget his face. I see his spitting image staring me back in the mirror every day. His voice though... My voice.... I would love to hear both of those again."

4) What type of music do you like to listen to?

"What type of music do I listen to? The Golden Era composers are by far the best thing to come out of the pitchy wails that are considered music above the waves. Their sense of timbre and rhythm were second to none. Indeed, I think it should be mandatory for any aspiring musicians to study their work. It'd certainly cut down on the number of snivling fops who think they're worthy of holding so much as a tambourine. Second to them are traditional dwarven brass arrangements. Though their instrumentality is lacking when performed with the typical ensemble, their sense of harmony-"

"Purple is a shit color, religion is a scam, neutrality is for cowards, and everyone should own a weapon. Four for one, there you go."

"Whoever first decided to eat milk so curdled it was solid must've been wrong in the head. Such insanity really doesn't help resist the siren case against human sentience, for what sentient beings would invent such a monstrosity?"

7) What’s the worst insult you’ve ever been given?

"That one... that one came from Djek, most shamefully. He didn't even say anything, just pointed to a drawing of a hairless cat wearing a long, brown wig. The others didn't let me live it down for weeks."

8) How would you react if someone catcalled you?

"I'd put a knife in their eye, since they want to look at something sharp."

(This is a lie. Sepo gets catcalled frequently due to his siren looks and he freezes up every time, usually blushing a fluorescent red. If any of his friends are with him, they kindly throw the nearest rock at the catcaller's head.)

9) If you suddenly appeared in an unknown city, what would you do/look for first?

"I'd search for the ocean. It might not be a good option, but if I have an ocean, I have an out."

(Fun fact, I don't think Sepo has ever been to a non-costal city. I'm not sure he knows they exist.)

Kalim and Fellow are a very interesting combo; it’s been a couple of months since we watched the event, but I still come back to think about these two every now and then. They really are opposites in every possible way, with Fellow almost being offended with Kalim’s carefree and generous attitude towards him. He is so used to people being two-faced and using him that Kalim’s extremely stubborn kindness is very jarring to him. Plus, the fact that it’s super easy for Kalim to just throw money around… I really loved that moment when Fellow got offended by that, I bring it up like at least 2 times a month lol And yet, Kalim seems so gullible and easy to trick… but his sheer luck, kindness and, once again, STUBBORNESS, makes him into someone Fellow can’t deal with very easily. He’ll drive Fellow insane so quickly lol

But it’d be such a nice learning experience for both of them, wouldn’t it? I feel like their relationship could have a very interesting dynamic as they learn more about each other~

Campaign and Characters: Basic Rundown

(The campaign I’ll be posting about here is a space western with heavy fantasy and horror elements. It draws quite a bit from some of my favorite things including The Locked Tomb, Star Wars, Darkest Dungeon, Cowboy Bebop, and some other cowboy themed D&D stuff I've run in the past)

The campaign starts 3 years after a massive crisis of succession that accidentally fused four different wars into one galaxy wide conflict. After over 30 years of fighting, a new Sovereign of the Galactic Kingdom has been named, and people are trying to pick up the pieces of their scattered lives. This has led a lot of people to flee towards the frontier worlds in an attempt to make their fortune and free themselves from the burdens of living under the various Dukes and Counts that hold dominion over their solar systems (though most fall immediately into the hands of outlaws who treat themselves as monarchs). It’s a mix between the energy of scrappy space cowboys, noble fantasy houses, and a horrifying galaxy filled with undead abominations (at least, according to rumors).  

Our protagonists are a cluster of drifters and runaways who for one reason or another find themselves on an interstellar train that will take them to the edge of "civilized society", which is where they run into each other and experience the first rumbles of the hauntings and horrors that lie beyond what the Galactic Kingdom has managed to conquer. I have 4 players in this game whose characters I'll give a brief description of below:

Dolly (she/her): Dolly is a disgraced reporter who once captured the events of the war and rooted out corruption wherever she found it. Eventually, she poked a little too hard at a cluster of powerful nobles, and a scandal broke about her selling information (and having intimate relations with) some of the outlaw leaders at the edges of the galaxy. She now takes jobs from "Choice Information" a trashy tabloid that has her basically writing buzzfeed style articles and doing vapid interviews for upstart bounty hunters. They give her lackluster information and sexy costumes to wear to every interview. She is a Human Inquisitive Rogue.

Chuck (he/him): Ch’k T’k, nicknamed Chuck, is a bounty hunter who takes any odd job he can find. He’s an expert tinkerer, fast with his shooting hand (which is helped by him having four of them), and is never seen without his Automaton companion, MAC. He does his best to keep a low profile and take jobs that will be easy money without gaining too much attention from the authorities or high profile outlaws, but he seems to have a bad habit of being dragged in over his head and finding dangerous gigs. He is a Thri-Kreen Battlesmith Artificer.

Geraldine (she/her): Geraldine is a wide-eyed debutant from a new money family. Her family didn’t make as much money as they were hoping to selling weapons and supplies during the war, and their lack of progress left her with a lot of free time on her hands. She used this free time to perfect her shooting at the local range, and to indulge in romantic novels that paint pictures of love, lust, and adventure in the frontier worlds. She decided that she dreamed of writing a story of her own, and wandered off to the nearest train station to find a crew to take her on an adventure. She is a Human Battle Master Fighter.   

Prometheus (he/it): Prometheus is a mysterious con artist, and is visibly the most cursed gothic man ever conceived of (though he really doesn’t seem to notice). He is fleeing to the edge of the galaxy, and scamming as many people as he can along the way. He slings snake oil potions, certificates for distant stars, and shockingly openly brandishes eldritch magic when the situation calls for it. Prometheus is a fellow with an untrustworthy face, but a shockingly smooth tongue to compensate. He’s wandering further and further into the galaxy for reasons that perhaps aren’t clear to most, or maybe even to him. He is a Human Great Old One Warlock.

This is our primary cast and crew, and soon I'll be diving into how they met and the shenanigans they got up to during our first session.

So you likely saw those drawings of that Resident Evil Village Au (hilarious, I know) and are wondering ‘but I want to know more about Bill. Why is his human form some old dude that wouldn’t be useable for a Tumblr sexyman contest? WHERE’S MORE INFORMATION ABOUT BILL AND HOW DID HE TAKE OVER THE PINES?! AND HOW IS HE COMPARABLE TO EVELINE WHEN HE IS FAR SUPERIOR?!’ Well worry not, nerds, for I shall tell you MY side of things:

MY TIME IN THE VILLAGE:

-See, I grew up in that dumb village. The so called ‘Father Belos’ implanted a cadou at me at a young age. I was a massive success, of course, and he decided to make me part of his so-called ‘family.’ As for my real, biological family? Well… the less you know the better. Other than that their remains are somewhere in the surrounding woods.

–FYI, his REAL name is Philip and his big goal is trying to get his big bro back. He already tried the cloning gig and it didn’t work. And he thought he could use MY body to get Caleb back?! Ha! Fat chance, dingus!

-So I was given power and prestige for a time. I had my own lab where I inserted cadou into SEVERAL people and got a few henchmen out of the deal. Meanwhile, I had fun screwing with everyone’s minds and visiting them in their dreams thanks to some good old mental astral projection and what not. (And helping to get rid of anyone unwanted…. Fun times!)

-Those four other lords? They’re losers. I can’t believe they are meant to be my ‘siblings’ as ‘Father’ puts it.

-Oh, but I’ve visited their minds and know their fears! One has nightmares about losing her hunky husband and baby girl. One has nightmares about ‘what could have been,’ being alone, and having guilt issues. One is worried she’ll lose control of her mutation and kill everyone. The other… eh, just typical ‘always rejected by my family’ and weirdly about platypuses for some reason. (That’s the one I go to the most when I want to be amused).

-Ah yes, their heirs… my ‘nieces.’ My personal favorite is Meteora–what an adorable little hellspawn! She tried biting me several times and it’s a ticklish kind of painful! Also she’s already making the best demonic faces and crawling up walls! I hope for the best for her!

–I decided to be funny and visit the girls’ nightmares. Metora is a baby, so there’s not much in her little brain, besides worrying about getting separated from her parents. The others though? One is worried about causing pain to her family and friends and blames herself for it. Another is afraid that Belos is going to find out about ‘the big plan’ (which I won’t spoil, of course). The last one just wants a normal life.

-So I wasn’t too keen on being an underling and tried to take over the village with MY underlings. Unfortunately, the other lords managed to turn on me, my henchmen were dead, and **** brains decided to punish me. He couldn’t kill me himself, so he injected something that would make me age faster than that decaying apple you refused to eat as a kid, instead of aging slowly like the others. (Oh, I wonder if Belos told the two losers who adopted the girls who got injected with cadou that they might age slowly like they will? They will be so PISSED considering those girls still have their biological families around. I think it’s HILARIOUS! Or I don’t know, maybe they aren’t aging slowly. Getting a cadou is the dumbest lottery scam ever.)

–And how did ‘Daddy’ get rid of me? Well Fordsy was visiting the village and I managed to sweet-talk him into taking me home with him. Belos was all too glad to be rid of me.

–What? Was there anything between me and Ford? MIND YOUR DAMN BUSINESS! I’m not telling you anything!

MY TIME WITH THE PINES–

-What a dumbass! Ford took me to his house while his family was there! So I quickly got most of them under my control with the exception of his brother and great-nephew. (Eh, it was easy–I just used a little infection on them). Stan managed to get Dipper away, but little did he know that I infected the boy with something.

–See, as much as I enjoyed having my own ‘family’ I needed to ditch my rapidly aging husk and get a new one. Dipper was initially my best candidate, but I had the others trick several young men and boys into getting to the house so I can infect them and get my new body. Unfortunately, all the bastards died–they weren’t compatible. Meanwhile, I was using my favorite projection as a disguise–a certain triangle form that you all love and want to kiss (you disgusting freaks! I know you love me, but I don’t want EVERYONE’S SALIVA all over me at the same time! One at a time, please!)

–So Dipper realized what was happening to him and–wanting to get his family back–snuck onto the grounds. It was around this time that Heart-Cheeks and her friend, Beauty Mark were tricked into coming to the Pines residence. (I think they were on a summer vacation). I had the Pines snatch Beauty Mark away and they helped me infect him while I left Heart-Cheeks at their mercy.

–Speaking of which, would Mabel count as my ‘daughter?’ I’m sure my nieces would have loved her. Especially that really preppy-happy one.

-Knowing my time was short, I sped up the infection in Dipper and I did it a little too fast because he was starting to crystalize while trying to help Heart-Cheeks. I had better success with Beauty Mark.

–Unfortunately that ASSHOLE Stan eventually came to save his family and teamed up with Heart-Cheeks. Also, Dipper managed to make a serum that Heart-Cheeks used against me and cut off my ability to create illusions and get in people’s head. I. WAS. PISSED!

–Well, the joke’s on her. I left that infection in Beauty Mark, but changed it up a bit. Let’s just say that if Belos knew what it was that I put into the boy, he would immediately get the kid and use him for his ultimate scheme.

-Unfortunately, I DIED. Calcified into dust when Heart-Cheeks smashed me to bits, with some help from some military-looking people. And yes–Stan dealt the final blow. Asshole.

-And I’m now stuck in the Megamycete’s consciousness/realm/whatever you want to call it thanks to the connection some of us share with it. The only way I can have any fun is to give those losers nightmares. Last I heard, the Pines family was freed from my control, Dipper's body went back to normal, and all my victims managed to escape... WHAT KIND OF–?! I wanted violence and trauma, damnit!

-Ah well. Heart-Cheeks will have to deal with Belos and my four ‘siblings’ soon enough.

–Well, looks like my connection is failing and I’ll lose control of this idiot’s body soon. Hope you had fun reading this, because I’m thinking of possessing YOU next. Also, tell your Mom I said hi–I hope you took that DNA test like my canon self suggested.
