maybe this is an unpopular opinion but yes while rowena becoming queen of hell was sexy of her it didnt fit in her arc.
bc her whole deal is that she tries to gain power so she can stop being afraid and feeling weak, right? and she stops doing that as she's redeemed, right? and by season 15 shes so far from it that she would willingly join team free will and SACRIFICE HERSELF TO SAVE THE WORLD, RIGHT????
and idk!! maybe im thinking too deeply into this but i dont know if someone who was so far from the idea of "i need to hold power to stop being afraid" that she'd do that would then just. take over hell!! thats not her, not anymore!! it hasnt been for a while. it just doesnt feel right with who she was at the end!!!

Is jojo's bizarre adventure a good first anime? I've only watched Sailor Moon as a kid and maybe Dragon Ball but the art is so gorgeous I'm kinda curious!
people who aren't fans appreciating the art style give me life omg<33 i agree it's stunning ! ! just look at this ! wow ! !
Tumblr media
EDIT: WOW OH MY GOD WE'VE ENTERED YAPPING STATE. SORRY. SHORT ANSWER YES IF YOU LIKE MULTIGENERATIONAL FAMILY SAGAS AND THEMES OF FATE AND BLOOD BUT IT'LL TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO. JOJO IS A WEIRD SHOW. ITS WIDELY KNOWN AS THE GAY ANIME FOR A REASON.
but to answer your question,, i'd say it's 50-50? i know a lot of people that aren't anime fans that LOVE jojo. it's a very unique show that doesn't follow the classic formula that other shonen anime follow like DB does, for example- this is either a huge bonus or it completely ruins the experience, because a lot of people compare it to other shows they're already familiar with. there's no better word for it, it's a BIZARRE series. everything is weird, the dialogue, the characters, the setting, the art. the author's writing style is something everyone sort of had to get used to and we love him for making us go through that.
i actually avoided the anime for years because i thought the characters looked gross and the lack of female characters was kind of an issue for me back then (it gets better it gets a lot better you just have to see it through). but it was my boyfriend's first shonen and he begged me for months to watch it together so i said fuck it- i think i made him watch twilight or play danganronpa in exchange.
.....it might not grip you from the start. part 1 is not a lot of people's favorite part. it wasn't mine- after like four or five episodes (of nine ! it's very short !) of being weirded out by it, i realized that i had to stop seeing it as a shonen anime, and instead began to see it as,,, a play,, of sorts. if you watch the first two parts you'll know what i'm talking about. it's drama. once i changed my perspective on it, i completely fell in love ! ! from part 3 onwards it's a lot more like the usual shonen, and i know it's a lot more enjoyable for the average fan, but the first two parts are charming in their own weird little way :)
looking back on it after watching twin peaks, there are a lot of similarities, with the quirky characters and the themes. i only started twin peaks because of a jjba fic inspired by it. if you like twin peaks, i'm certain you'll like jojo.
but this is my spn blog and i assume you like supernatural so. i'll say: don't expect the same focus on relationships that spn puts on the characters, but know that its present in every interaction. where sam and dean hold each other tenderly and talk about how they're the only thing that matters, in jjba you'll have one character looking at the other in a way that's just drawn differently and the fandom will go insane. the supernatural characters are built very very carefully and have a lot of details that fans memorized- jjba characters are just as good but have a lot more space to play with if you want, regarding headcanons and storylines. their lives and thoughts aren't as well documented as sam and dean's is what i'm trying to say lol you'll know what brand of underwear a character likes most but you won't know his birthday. it happens. yes a lot of the fanfic is ooc because there's barely any character to remain inside of.
last but not least. this is a wincest blog. the first six parts of jojo follow six different generations of the same family. this is not minor. there will be daddy and mommy issues, there will be strange family dynamics. the family tree is FUCKED up and when you learn why you'll either drop the show or become sickeningly obsessed with a certain little guy called DIO. yes like THAT dio. there are a lot of musical references. unlike some characters i know, he's canonically bisexual.
anyways WOW do i like this anime. idk what else to say if you need more convincing this is the opening i guess

MOBILE-FRIENDLY GUIDELINES
Do
Send ic asks and memes! You are never bothering me with these, no matter how many.
Talk to me about your ideas for ships, threads, plots, etc. You may come into my inbox or DMs at any time, day or night. I LOVE hearing from my rp partners :)
Write me starters and tag me in stuff if you’re compelled to (provided it doesn’t break one of the below rules).
Tumblr media
Don’t
Ask me about my day, my life, or anything overtly personal. I make exceptions for good buddies of mine, but I can’t stand it when people I don’t know from Adam start prying. I am in a bad situation that I can’t get out of; it burns when I have to be reminded of that. I’d rather not have to lie, ignore, or make something up just to satisfy someone, you know?
Reblog memes from me if we haven’t interacted. Please use the source whenever possible.
Say ‘Hi’ or [insert generic greeting]. Again, this doesn’t apply to my close friends. You KNOW who you are.
Ask me if I want to rp with you. If you wish to start writing with me, I expect you to do the leg work. Also, I expect you to have read my rules beforehand.
Expect romantic ships with Harry Warden or Soldier Boy; Harry is single ship with @pasiphaedemetriadevil’s Isis, and Soldier Boy aka Ben is single ship with @lovelylostminds’s Charlotte as female muses go and selective with male muses.
Fetishise LGBTQA+, religiousness, children/youth, or animals.
Send me random pics of my muse(s) faceclaim(s) or give me updates on their activities. I am am aware of the fact that I’m weird for being this way, but actors as themselves ooc trigger me really badly.
Use imagery of spiders or spider-esque things in our interactions ic or ooc. Even stylized ones will not be tolerated.
Talk about abusing animals or use animal-abusing imagery ic or ooc.
Wincest or Destiel. I don’t ship it and I won’t rp it. Platonic is fine. Any pics of Destiel or Cockles will be tagged for shipping partners that play one of the faceclaims involved. I am not endorsing either of the aforementioned ships.
Approach with OCs who are said to be related to Sam or Dean unless heavily discussed and on the condition that I already know you.
Banned fc(s): Danneel Harris, Gen Padalecki, Jonas Brothers, Imogen Poots, K-Pop members, Jack Nicholson, Madelyn Cline
Asterisk roleplay, such as *walks over to the table*. Dialogue for roleplays must be contained within a parameter e.g. quotation marks, brackets, etc. I will not respond if your character is speaking and it blends into the general narrative.
Tumblr media
about the mun
Older than 28, GNC, he/they pronouns. Not searching for anything remotely romantic or sexual with my writing partners; I have life-ruining celebrity crusheslike the best of us but in practice I am asexual. However, I do very much enjoy sexual themes and shipping in rps, and I can of course appreciate male and female beauty for what it is, both fictional and real. Unapologetic vegan. I have several disabilities, so please try to be patient with my speech, tone, and overall writing. I am battling SEVERE depression, and I ask you to please bear this in mind when interacting with me ooc. That said, I try my best to be a good friend and writer in the rp community.
While mun ≠ muse, Dean is somewhat of a vicarious character for me, and he and I will share similar views from time to time. This may periodically result in my portrayal not adhering to canon or popular fanon, but do not use this to attack either myself or my muse(s).
I don’t support the canon spn finale in any way, shape, or form.
If I feel I can’t read your replies, grammatically speaking, I’m just going to drop it. Hot potato-style. Same goes if I feel like you’re not giving equal effort to the thread. Oh, and I can’t see those wack formats well.
If I receive too many asks of the same nature, from the same muse, I will simply delete the/certain of the asks at my discretion.
For my own comfort, I will block any and all bloggers who are self-proclaimed Satanists’ (don’t care what the suffix is).
My only hard ‘no’ with any ship is non-con. Obviously will not ship any minor characters.

I’m back on my bullshit and we have GOT TO TALK about 13x08 The Scorpion and the Frog; which serves as a good example of why you should not ONLY watch spn episodes with Cas (partially because of that scene I shamefully blogged about earlier - no I will not link that cursed post here).  The episode title comes from a fable in which the villain is the scorpion.  Interpretations of this fable note its uniqueness lies in the concept that “the scorpion is irrationally self destructive and fully aware of it.”
Tumblr media
To quote the scorpion, buddies -  “it’s in my nature.”
Anyway, this episode is subtextually predicated on exploring Dean Winchester’s nature and specifically - his bisexuality, and I’m not only saying that because it opens with Dean in his Bi Colors Plaid (that also he wore on his burger date with Cas).
Tumblr media
Let’s get started, after the cut!
Season 13 on its face gives me absolute whiplash because it starts widow arc-reunion-TOMBSTONE and then Jack yeets himself off to Chuck knows where so Cas can go out Looking For Him Because Otherwise He Will Definitely Kiss Dean there is no other option for the writers at this point.  Sigh.  Here, have another shot of Dean anxiously cleaning his gun as he always does when Cas has Gone Off For Reasons -
Tumblr media
Anyway, this feels like a filler episode at first, but as always they bury the ENTIRE damn world in it and I am here with my dossier to Unearth It.
Lets start with Bart (demon of terrible nicknames and microagressions) meeting the brothers at Smile Diner to talk about some spell or whatever.
Tumblr media
(I am not thinking about the Cherry Pie meta I AM NOT)
THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY to start with these lines immediately introducing the theme of duality, a thread throughout this episode.
BARTHAMUS
Everything. I've been following your careers a long time. You're a real pain in the pitchfork. And the halo. Natural disrupters. We have that in common, you and I. DEAN
Mm. Yeah, we're twinsies.
***MORE DUALITY!  But as we know, Dean does not like Bart because He Is A Freakin’ Demon
DEAN
Well, see, here's the thing. When a demon tells us to jump, we don't ask how high. We just ice their ass.
Tumblr media
UMMM excuse me Barting Bacting Boices?  What is that sexual gaze?
Then we find out that Bart has 1/2 of the spell.  They need the other 1/2.  Oh, a spell with two parts, you say? [ I am going to scream :) ]
***Also, Dean eats the pie Bart ordered.  I cannot begin to explain to you the state of unwellness that I am in regarding how important this is. DEAN NEVER GETS TO EAT THE PIE, remember?  But in This Filler Episode, Dean eats the pie. While Sam looks at him with a very quizzical expression.  Pie -> what Dean wants but never actually gets -> Dean actively eating this pie.  Dean is coming to terms that maybe he can have what he wants.
***I am reminding you again that this is post widower-arc, post-reunion, and especially post-Tombstone.  Anyway-
Now we get to Smash and Grab.  Not literally even though I want to Commit Such Conduct at this point.  We are introduced to two one off characters named
Smash (human/female presenting) -  can crack any safe built by man
and Grab (demon/male presenting)-  expert in bypassing supernatural security.
Reaching or no, you can’t disagree that when spn introduces one off characters - it is almost always a Narrative Parallel or Mirror.
So we have a human and a demon (and Dean Winchester, a human who has been a demon)
who are experts in cracking open/bypassing something that has been secured and guarded (breaking down walls, if you will).
Tumblr media
They also use fake names identifying them as Tools to be Used ( Dean Winchester, the Michael Sword/daddys blunt little instrument)
BONUS:
Dean himself is literally used as a tool in this episode.
Tumblr media
So yeah.  Smash and Grab are physical representations of Dean’s duality.  Human/Demon.  Femininity/Masculinity.  Dare we say something else, too?
Anyway, Dean is paired with Smash and Grab; Sam is off to idk negotiate weird artifact purchases lawboy style with Luther Shrike, a man who cannot die so long as he never leaves his house (I cannot even begin to unpack this shit; please just sit there and think about it.  I’m not even going there here.  I CANNOT DISCUSS Luther Shrike RN).
Speaking of things I cannot discuss without halgdhsag;lsa - Smash has very Specific boots (a look overall, really).
Tumblr media
DEAN
Hey, Winona. The '90s called. They'd like their shoes back. SMASH
Shh.
***That’s right girl - do not take his shit; he actually LOVES them and is therefore Overcompensating for it with this little jab.
***Dean’s pop culture references and particular attention to the details here Should Not Be Overlooked.  90s! Winona! Ryder!
ANYWAY, then Dean and Smash bond over a caffeinated beverage -
[While Dean is doing a spell, Smash opens a can of drink, takes a mouthful and burps loudly. ] SMASH
Ahh. DEAN
You're weird.
Tumblr media
***This scene makes me literally insane. (even aside from Dean living on something named NERVE DAMAGE as a KID.  They could have called it anything. You’re saying this wasn’t a Choice)
She chugs a swallow of the drink and burps.  Something stereotypically associated with masculinity.  Not feminine.  Dean’s reaction is that she is “weird” - because she is not acting in a way stereotypically, J*hn Winchester brain-rot patriarchy bullshit-tily associated with Being Female.  But also, says the stupid show, they like the same soda.  They are The Same.  She shares the soda with Dean.  HIS FACE WHEN SHE DOES -
Tumblr media
Other similarities are addressed throughout the episode (they are working for demons because they have no choice; they don’t discuss feelings/emotions, they both sold their soul, they both This Thing -
DEAN
You know, we could help you. SMASH
No, you can't. I gotta take care of me.
etc. etc.) Smash is absolutely dean-coded.
****Also it’s textually established that Smash thinks Dean is attractive -
GRAB
[looking at Smash] Oh. You said he was just a pretty face. SMASH
Shh.
Tumblr media
***But Grab flirts with him too.
DEAN
I will kill you. GRAB
I bet you say that to all the girls.
***sorry, Grab - you won’t get far with Dean, but only because as he mentioned in the beginning of this episode -
Tumblr media
Drowley rights.
Now Dean has to put his hand in the mouth of this stone lion thing and all of a sudden he is acting....very-not-like-Dean.
Tumblr media
[Dean looks again and takes a deep breath.] DEAN
I… how about this? What if I cut myself, put it on, like, a little piece of paper? We'll just wad it up and throw it in the mouth, okay? Okay.
***Dean Winchester, who has been to Literal HELL, who has been torn apart by hellhounds, who has battled the devil and angels and God’s sister - all at the expense of his own life is now - afraid of spiders.  Well, technically he has always been afraid of spiders, but why isn’t ‘he being performative about it At This Time??
***Come to think of it, this sends me right back to how Jackles was playing Dean in 12x11 Regarding Dean THE episode dissecting Dean’s performative masculinity [one day I will clean up and post that analysis sitting in my drafts like a sad hamster]. That makes sense actually, because -> -> ->
that episode and this one are both written by Meredith Glynn.  Girl get in I want to torture you affectionately with a barrage of questions.
So here we have Dean and he’s not performing for Reasons, and he’s scared he’s genuinely scared of putting his hand in this stone lion-gargoyle-pig-creature’s mouth and then -
Tumblr media
Smash gives him a push.
She gives him a push.  I cannot stop thinking about how she gives him a push.  A push to go do this thing that he is scared of; his fear being something he was hiding under his performative masculinity. Smash - dean coded dean mirror who does not perform femininity and is ‘weird’ -  she   gives him   a     p u s h.
***linking here for the jackting joices that follow.
Now, let’s circle back to Smash’s story; why she is working for Bart in the first place -
SMASH
You think I wanna be here? Like I have a choice? SAM
You made a deal. SMASH
Wow! You think? SAM
You sold your soul. SMASH
And if I could take it back, I would.
Tumblr media
there is no reason for this picture here other than I needed you to see the jackting again
***How does the story end for Smash?
DEAN
Take care of you. [Dean glances down at the box, and then at Smash. She sees that Dean has put a lighter on top of the bones.]  BARTHAMUS
Alice, chop chop!
[Bart indicates she should get his bones]. SMASH
Yeah. [She grabs the lighter and sets Bart's bones alight. Bart screams as he bursts into flames. ]
***She accepts help and breaks free from the narrative, literally burning it down. The female presenting but not female-performing “weird” ooc representing a side of Dean breaks FREE because she makes a choice.  The lighter Dean drops? It’s a push.  And she goes with it.
Alice reclaims her story.
(Also, Grab gets ganked.  The male presenting ooc; the performative masculinity side; the demon; the darkness; the not-humanity - gets ganked).
Guess what Dean says to Alice when they say goodbye?
DEAN
Hey, Alice. Stay weird.
Tumblr media
[I know the peace sign is probably just a Charlie throwback but I’d still like to say duality.  Two. ]
Dean’s not just talking to Alice.  He’s talking to himself; because the walls have been breached and for once Dean isn’t as scared of being different.  Maybe, just maybe, he’s going along with the push.  That’s exactly how the episode ends - with Dean feeling a little more hopeful, a little more at peace; a little more Considering he is capable of not only loving Cas but also not hating himself for it.
[until the knowledge that Mary is still alive and the guilt of allowing himself ANY happy thoughts instead of looking for her miserably rears its ugly head in 13x09 and round and round we go but for NOW at least -> ]
DEAN
I'll drink to that.
Tumblr media
(oh look Dean is just wearing his henley.  It’s almost as if a layer has been peeled back).
tagging @im-shaking-like-milk and @deanwasalwaysbi for letting me ramble on to them while writing this; and @lilac-void because you are always so kind about my stuff :)

Redemption for villains and storytelling
Relevant to my interest and my XY hyperfixation, but not only.
I want to say it: the characters don’t deserve anything. Because the characters don’t exist and can’t decide anything. The author is the god of their stories, she/he/they can decide anything.
Sometimes it’s full of satisfaction, sometimes it’s a mess.
(I’m stressed and in a hurry, broken essay written in broken English under the cut)
(The author is god and the author is dead at the same time, my favorite way to enjoy a narration)
Let’s take Loki, for example. Marvel wanted to kill him in Thor 2, but he had become such an icon that he stayed. He could have been easily the villain of Thor 3, of Avengers 3, but no, he died (redempted, we can say). Do I think Loki needed redemption? Of course I did. But my belief, or the belief of a fan who hates Loki is unimportant, because the writers decide everything. He could have become worse and worse, if so the Powers To Be had decided.
In Buffy, did Spike need a romance with Buffy? Unimportant, Joss Whedon could have written him any ways he wanted. He got a redempion, but he could also not get it.
Hannibal, for being a terrible cannibal serial-killer for petty petty reasons, gets the love of his life to love him back. Does he deserve him? Fuck no, but damn if it isn’t a compelling story and I love it.
And of course pure sweet wholesome characters suffering and dying horrible terrible deaths (Yanli, for example, and a sadly enormous group of female characters). Did they deserve it? Fuck no! But they did.
And many other characters. For me it’s baffling that Meg was used in that way in SPN, they look really OOC. But retcons are a thing, especially when many many many people work in a popular show. Some people enjoyed it, hurray for them.
Did Darth Vader deserve his redemption? Unimportant, Lucas wanted it to happen and so it did (I personally love Luke and Anakin).
Some characters needed much more screentime and they couldn’t have it.
So yes, of course it’s fun to see a story as an universe separated from any other things, where characters are people. (Hello suspension of belief and premise to care about any story!)
And not all the twists and the evolutions are good, oh my god no. (Chuck, I repeat? Lex in Smallville? Loki in the comics? And many others).
But I just wanted to say that it’s not a matter of being more or less pure, moral. Story happens, plot happens, ideas of the author happen. It isn’t a matter of “this character deserved this or that”, but what the author wanted to write.
And now because I’m really transparent... Yes, of course I can see a redemption for Xue Yang. The fact that it wasn’t written doesn’t mean that it couldn’t exist. And yes, it could work very well with MDZS plot (where our protagonist inexplicably is almost never treated as a villain, despite killing thousands of people) (my thirst for villain protagonist WWX is for another rant).
Redemption means many many things for different people. For some the intentions are more important (this character realizes he was wrong), for others the character simply stops doing evil things, for others again is trying to make up for their evil. For other stories it means to start killing different people.
I think they work in different ways with different characters.
Do I want to see a Loki wrecked by guilt? No, thanks but not thanks.
Do I wish to read a Xue Yang desperate because he’s understood that all the people he had killed didn’t deserve it? Are you kidding me? No!
What about a Palpatine who repents? Pff, no!
An Hannibal who decides that is sorry for being a serial killer and that should leave Will because he deeply hurted him? No no no!
Do I long to see a XY who follows XXC and starts exorcising evil things because he wants to stay near him? Fuck yeah. He stayed 3 years in a creepy old poor house without any other excitement than “Fuck, what’s this feeling, I want this”. Fighting alongside XXC would be a wet dripping dream (also, I think he’s already gone in some legit night hunts, why should he pass an occasion to see XXC fighting and being sexy?).
Do I want to see an Untamed!XY going to Yiling Laozou and doing demoniac cultivation together? Yes yes!
Do I wish to see a XY deciding that the Wen were actually terrible (he doesn’t like dominating others! He just likes killing people that he thinks they deserve to die in his revenge against the world) and fighting against them, ally of the other sects? I’d pay someone to write it.
Sincerely, in his case, I don’t care if he starts doing good things because he understands them. I think he can’t, or he wouldn’t have done the things he had done. Sincerely, I prefer to think that in that life at least he couldn’t understand them, because then he would be more innocent, in contrast with the option that he understanda and not cares (proof: he really believes there is a chance that XXC would understand his need for vengeance. If he knew it was so wrong, he would have tried something different (and maybe it would have worked!)).
Last but not least: I don’t like defanged villains. I just don’t like them. It may be my humiliation squick. And if the villain is harmless the “redemption” is not redemption at all: he couldn’t do anything! For this reason I’ve disliked (I didn’t read them, I would never leave a flame) the fics in which Loki was magic-bound or anything similar. Yes, it may be a transition, but long-term? Thanks but not my cup of tea. And yes, for a “redemption” arc to happen, the villain should be able to do evil... and not do it.
So yeah, I think people mean fundamentally different things when they speak about redemption, and not all of them are goods or things I’m interested in. And if something didn’t happen in canon, doesn’t mean that it absolutely couldn’t happen, but only that the author decided not to do it.

OKAY SO I've just spent the best part of an hour scrolling through your blog and reading a bunch of your destiel meta and I HAD to message you... I was one of the many people who STRONGLY believed destiel had a chance of being canon after season 8 (more like season gr8 am i right), but throughout the years I slowly lost all hope. However, S14 has made me 110% invested in the show again and YOUR META IS GIVING ME HOPE FOR DESTIEL, which is TERRIFYING. Your writing is wonderful and I'm STRESSED.
Got back from Washington late last night!
Oh my gosh @alovelikecas, your message really made my day and I’m SO glad you enjoy my meta xox (even when most of my meta looks like, to me, sloppy-ass writing, haha! I’ll probably make an end-season meta post after 14x20 — if I have the time — that touches upon SPN’s current and repeating themes since Season New Beginnings S12/Dabb Era, not to mention I have, like, some more unfinished meta in my drafts >.>)
Tumblr media
Yeah I mean, I didn’t join Destiel land until Summer 2016, and before that, I was late to the Season 11 party, so I basically had no narrative context for anything, and I’ll copy-paste what I said here:
Looking back, one significant thing I recall? S11 gave me a sense of Destiel’s true narrative validity (as not a ‘fanon’ ship but organically developed in the canon) when I perceived it as a season that was ‘missing something’. Keep in mind I had no idea about Destiel yet while watching S11 at the time.
I was literally asking myself — repeatedly — why Dean/Amara seemed to contain odd narrative holes, considering A. Dean explicitly said that the non-consensual attraction he felt for Amara was NOT love and “it scares him”, B. Amara told Dean that ‘something stops you - keeps you from having it all’, C. Djinn!Amara stated that she can: ‘feel the love [Dean] feels, except it’s cloaked in shame,’ and D. Mildred’s iconic ‘You’re pining for someone’ —> which did not logically correlate with A and C, meaning: since Dean doesn’t freely love Amara and thus isn’t possibly pining for her — with female love interests as currently non-existent (I remember crossing off the dead/gone girls on a piece of paper lol) — who the hell was he pining for, then?

Obviously, without writing long-ass paragraphs of meta about it again in this post, S11 made sense as soon as I watched it within the Destiel context (especially after I read up on some grandiose pieces of Destiel meta (@charlie-minion was the very first person who inspired me to write meta; I followed her once I joined the fandom Oh my god, here we go, holy crap this subtext – I’m invested in this godforsaken ship because they’re in love with each other and I’m not getting off any time soon. The rest is history.
I’m aware that I do come off as positive (and I’m still Destiel-positive; whatever happens in 14x20 this week may or may not change that), but I hope you don’t mind if I use your lovely ask as an additional opportunity to clarify my meta standpoint: no one’s saying Destiel WILL become text.
The general Destiel meta community (all subfactions: Destiel-positive, -negative, -neutral, and in-between) is not the Most Holy Canon Word, and we aren’t SPN writers, and again, we can’t actually speak to the veracity of Destiel as guaranteed-gonna-go-textual, but we — a diverse pool of critical thinkers from all walks of life: particularly those who have some degree of experience in literary academia/English literature studies (fun fact: I was actually pursuing a Minor’s in English until I changed my mind - my first love’s Health Science/Biology, which I stuck with, but here I am doing lit-crit analysis on the side *wink*) — can speak to the veracity of Destiel as a real, palpable, and ever-substantial long-running romance narrative aka the love story between Dean and Cas IS THERE. I see it. We all see it. We didn’t pluck it out of the random ether one day. It naturally evolved across the show’s overarching narrative like some vast spiderweb, linked together by numerous character arc amalgamations of Dean Winchester and Castiel as separate individuals who were then brought together — who brought themselves together, by the sheer force of free will and choice — and are now inherent parts of the other’s story (and respective character progression).
I say this too many times to count: the entire point of writing meta? Personally, it enables me to appreciate the literary gorgeousness of Dean and Cas’ relationship as, first and foremost, a tentative alliance offset by the very moment Cas raised Dean from perdition (it’s a poetic beginning). Their alliance then inevitably proliferated into a rocky — at times, necessarily turbulent — friendship, then a deep profound bond…one that crossed platonic boundaries since S7/8 and is, ultimately, indelibly rooted in romance. Together, Dean and Cas build up each other’s strengths, complement each other’s flaws, and narratively motivate the other to self-introspect — to become the best version of themselves that they were always meant to be: self-actualized entities who let go of their painful, horrifying, psychologically/emotionally destitute pasts.
These above reasons and more are why I think Destiel belongs right up there on the shelf of Ye Olde Classics, similar to epics by John Milton, Shakespearian tragic dramas, Homeric characteristic cruxes, and the great Odyssey journey: a legendary journey, fraught with circumstance, that finally ended with Odysseus (now an enlightened man) returning to Penelope, the love of his life.
Channeling the scope of Homer’s Odyssey, Destiel is an incredible storytelling feat of obstacles, both internal and external, romance tropes, mirroring, foreshadowing, and visual cadence/emotion, enhancing SPN’s already character-driven main plot in that Dean and Cas try to make it back to one another; like Penelope, their love holds true despite everything. If Destiel were an M/F couple, we all know their love story would be absolutely undeniable to the GA.
I do understand the bitterness S14’s fostered in some viewers, though. I do understand that Dean and Cas seem distant (and yeah, it’s a noticeable difference compared to S12/S13), but I believe the Destiel subtext is still heavy and holds steady.
Right now, at this point, there remains multiple personal issues for the characters to solve, you know? Dean and Cas aren’t talking properly; their love languages stay mistranslated, although we’re persistently shown that they still understand each other on a certain level that no one else can, and the visual narrative keeps framing them as on-the-nose solid counterparts: a domestic-spousal romantic unit independent of Sam.

They need to quash the final remnants of their respective internal loathing (Dean’s self-worthiness, Cas’ self-expendability) before they’re able to give the other 100% of their time, efforts, attention, and love (as flawed and complicated but compellingly beautiful as it can possibly be). During the times Dean and Cas do try to talk shit out, extraneous issues continue to get between them.
As other friends/meta pals discussed with me, S14 is like S10 in that it’s confusing the cast/audiences. And exactly: S8, besides S11/S12/early S13, also belongs in the close-to-canon serious Destiel narrative transition! I can discuss the showrunning/writer problem of SBL (Singer + Bucklemming; @occamshipper hits the nail on the head) that tugs subtext – especially subtext linked to Destiel – back and forth, sometimes in the weirdest nonsensical ways, but I won’t go too far into it here. I agree, however, with the recent idea that Jensen does seem a bit confused as to where he should bring Dean emotionally this season (don’t get me wrong, I do NOT believe Dean is OOC; OOC is a completely different concept vs expected character behaviour). And if Dean’s consistently romance-coded past interactions with Cas are any indication, Jensen would also — in the same vein as all of us — want Dean and Cas to start getting their shit together. Long-running fictional characters like Dean and Cas, conceived over 10 years, are so well-written to the point where you, the author, can predict what they’ll do even if you just plop both of them inside a room and give them no direction, and I personally feel that nowadays Jensen is prevented from achieving Dean’s further internal growth/unsure how to act in the moment because of some dumb SBL scripts saying one thing while his character’s heart says another. Wank aside—
Season 15 should hopefully convey a much more logical subtextual perspective e.g. unbelievably amazingly cohesive Season Destiel 11 that aired after choppy S10. Not all hope is lost!! I also want to clarify that I personally LOVED Season 14 in general. It’s been mostly Emotion-centric constant, with Yockey, Berens, Perez, and Dabb usually making my top-rank SPN writer list.
Currently the narrative’s still allowing pretty significant (imho) wiggle room for the lovers to fracture apart and get back together, where their miscommunication comes to a dramatic head. We just saw Dean and Cas argue over Jack’s well-being in 14x18 and 19. Dean — besides putting Cas at the top of his You’re-Dead-to-Me-Because-You-Lied-but-I-Still-Love-You-Goddammit hitlist (for clear spousal-coded reasons) and taking Cas’ actions to heart (he’s the person he trusted the most who lied to him) — no doubt blamed himself for what happened, and Sam was, like I said, the mouthpiece of truth. TFW were all culpable. They all failed Jack in some way, shape, or form.
I’m not expecting anything for 14x20, but I’m nervous either way! Thanks for sticking with my long answer

as frustrating as it is, it’s kind of fascinating to watch as supernatural reaches the inevitable downfall of a show that relies so heavily on queerbaiting & is able to run this long.
supernatural has accidentally cultivated this huge following/reputation for their homoerotic subtext that truly started as an accident. since then they have used it for their advantage by baiting gay viewers and the shippers while also treating it as a nuisance and continue to refuse to go TOO far with it, making it a really bizarre balancing act.
but in doing that, they've had to progress dean and cas's relationship as they’ve grown closer over the years while also continuing to add in this intentional undercurrent of gay subtext in almost all of their scenes/even beyond their scenes in the main story itself.... and that's put them in a complicated situation now, narratively. bc theres no going back on it at this point, if they were to give either of them genuine female love interests now it would 1. lose them a lot of the viewers that they've carefully manipulated into watching for this weird not-gay gay romance 2. feel out of character for them to suddenly be interested/in love with a woman due to the depth of the subtext they’ve created by now. currently in season 14, it would be more ooc for dean to explicitly show that he isn't in love with cas than it would be for them to become canon next episode.
and that's why as of late, you can FEEL the presence of all the words left unspoken. bc they don't want to explicitly make it not gay, bc, as i’ve said, they need those destiel fans. they also don't want to/can't explicitly say it IS gay. but they've naturally built up these characters and their relationship over time so that this gay subtext is CORE to their interactions and their dynamic so, for example, when theres an ep like 14x12 where cas wants to talk to dean and stop him from going in that box and the two of them are confronted with the possibility of saying goodbye, the writers can't let them actually get the chance to do it. bc they know that we Know what the characters should actually want to say in that situation and THEY know it too. even if they don't like it, they cannot try to make their goodbye just a bro thing, it would feel awkward and ooc and it would piss off fans. but seeing as they still refuse to actually take the leap and let it happen, they also can't let them have the conversation itself bc with the situation and the characters that they've created, there is an obvious destination that the characters would naturally reach on their own, if it was really in-character. so to avoid that, they have sam cut them off. they have dean hang up the phone. they have them continue to dance around actual communication. then we have the contrast of sam and dean openly talking about things (at least as open as they can get) in the same episode bc theres no RISK with a potential place that their conversations could lead. narratively, spn has boxed themselves in, and you can feel it weighing down the show at this point, all because they don’t want to take the final gay leap.

While You Were Sleeping --- A Supernatural AU
Gif source:  1  |  2  |  3  |  4
Series Masterlist
Pairings:  Dean Winchester/Reader; Sam Winchester/Reader
Warnings:  Flangst in the first chapter, but there will be more Fluff than angst to come!! Me being a cheesy sap! Writing that will never be as good as the movie, but hell I tried! [Technically the first chapter involves Sam getting hurt… but don’t worry it’s not too angsty!]; Possibly OOC characters?
Word Count:  3,290 words
Reader Gender:  Female
Author:  Meg
Summary:  You live a simple life. You go to work at Charlie’s Coffee House, you pay your bills, you fantasize about finally bucking up the courage to speak more than three words to the tall, attractive regular who you knew only by the name that gets scrawled on the side his coffee cup. Simple. Up until the minute you wind up accidentally becoming his fiancée, that is... and he doesn’t even know it yet. [While You Were Sleeping AU, Coffee-Shop!AU? --- I’m playing fast and loose with the plot.]
A/N:  Don’t judge me! I love While You Were Sleeping and I really wanted to write this AU for SPN! I added in a coffee shop because I love coffee shops! This is shameless self-indulgence and not much else tbh...  I plan on this being several parts, but I don’t have how many pinned down yet! Second part is in progress right now, so I decided to post this one. [Also, due to school, it may take some time for me to post chapters, so please be patient with me!] Give me feedback to let me know if I should keep this going, or what you’d like to see in later chapters!
|  Part 1  |  An Accidental Engagement
Tumblr media
Your name: submit What is this?
Just the sight of him was enough to have your breath catching in your throat. He moved through the coffee shop familiarly, with a confident grace as he arrived right on the six-thirty dot as had become routine. He looked crisp in his dark suit, which was no doubt expensive if the glance you got beneath his heavier winter coat was anything to go by. It was the height of winter, in that freezing limbo between Christmas and New Years, but the murky clouds above were determined stay, bordering on the threat of snowfall. Long, leather-gloved fingers push back the chocolate locks of hair that had cascaded into his vision as he ordered the same thing he always did, before moving to the side to wait on his order, completely oblivious to the way you had barely been able to function since he came in the door as he turns his attention down to his phone.
“Sam!” Charlie barks out not three minutes later, her fiery red hair tied up into a bun that was already falling down her neck and would most likely fall to pieces before her shift was over. Your heart skips a beat as the tall man looks up from his phone before taking his nonfat soy latte from the pass and hurrying towards the door in long, fluid steps without a second glance behind him, instead focused on whatever important text he was tapping away on his cell.
You sigh, watching him leave. There he went, your future husband, in all his mountainous glory. You could see it now, the two of you together. You could fit perfectly under his arm, thanks to his height. Maybe you could even warm to the idea of having a few rugrats running around eventually, if it was with him. Of course, it would be after he inevitably proposed and you had your own luxurious, fairy-tale wedding. You hoped they would look more like him, with his hazel eyes, and dark hair---
Charlie swatting playfully at your butt with a dishtowel brings you out of your fantasy, forcing the empty coffee mug in your hands back to the forefront of your attention, “Hey, lovergirl, quit drooling and get back to work!” Thankful the door had just closed behind Sam, you jump a bit at the smack. You shoot her a light glare, but still feel the pang of embarrassment at having been caught. Charlie just snickers at you, looking back to the line as Cas takes the next customer in her absence, “Look, chica, I don’t know why you don’t just go on and talk to the suit already! You've nothing to worry about. I know a billion girls who would think they went to heaven to be on a date with you! You’re gorgeous, and a super cool friend, which is a diamond in the rough to find nowadays.”
“Don’t butter me up like one of your croissants, Char! I don’t think talking to your online girlfriends would be the same as bucking up the courage to talk to him,” even though you roll your eyes, you can’t deny the gratefulness you had for her compliments. She single-handedly boosted your self-esteem half of the time, but you doubted it would ever actually grow enough for you to actually make a move on Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome who frequented her coffee shop.
“If this Friday goes well, it won’t be online anymore! I’ve got that date with Ruthy, remember?” Charlie reminds, adding a slight, happy squeal to the end of her declaration as she pulls the lever to the latte machine, a tuft of air accenting her giddy excitement as she froths the next order’s milk.
“And you’ll totally knock her socks off! But, me?” Finishing up the order you had, you send it to the pass with a call of, “I’ve got a black coffee for… Chuck,” before looking back to your boss, “I can’t make it past three words when he comes in! You know that you and Cas have to handle his order all the time, because I’m completely useless when it comes to actually speaking more than one singular word to his stupid, beautiful face.”
She glances back at you skeptically, in the midst of making the espresso order Cas had sent her way before taking his next customer, only to chuckle at your pout, “But have you even tried---?”
The sound of tires screeching violently and people shouting interrupts Charlie and pulls you away from the conversation, your attention shooting towards the glass door to focus on a commotion beyond the windows of Charlie's Coffee House. Your heart jumps into your throat, a sharp fear rushing through you as you realize what is happening in the parking lot.
You didn’t know you could move that fast, as you hadn’t a reason to in the past couple of years, but you closed the gap to the door quickly with how you found yourself running. Disregarding anything else in your haste to get to the scene outside, you pushed out into the winter morning without a care for the way the wind whipped through you, unable to settle it’s chill into your bones with the heat of the adrenaline already warming you.
Not bothering to stop at the driver, you dart past him, barely catching the stunned explanation, “He--- he just walked right out in front of me, on his phone! I didn’t see him until he was right there!” There, on the ground not three feet from the grille of the driver’s Audi, was your favorite customer, his nonfat soy latte scattered and soaking slowly into the unforgiving asphalt.
“Sir? Sir!” you rush to his side, slightly out of breath as you gently press at his shoulders. When you get no response, your gentle pressing grows rougher in an attempt to get him to stir, your voice coming more frantic and scared at the lack of response, “S-Sir, are you okay? Please, say something if you can hear me!” That’s when you notice the blood beginning to pool from beneath his head. Heart hammering in your chest, you turn towards the driver and shout with far more assertion than you ever had in your life, “Call 9-1-1, right now!” Looking back to him, you don’t dare move him, freezing up in a horrifying moment of uncertainty. What do I do? What do I do?
“Oh my god,” you faintly recognize Charlie’s voice from beside you, watching her grey converse sneakers step closer in your peripheral as your hands press into the asphalt, cold and wet beneath your fingers, while you try to get enough of a grip to be useful at all.
Mustering up his name, you urge, hearing the desperation to your voice, “Sam? Sam, come on, buddy… tell me something!”
“I don’t think he’s breathing,” comes gruffly from Cas, who looked on from the sidelines, but still managed to notice something that you hadn’t. You were beginning to draw a crowd now, and Sam still hadn’t stirred yet.
Glancing around frantically, catching the eyes of anyone who would look at you directly, you ask, “Is anyone a doctor? Or nurse? EMT?” When you get only a collective, resounding murmur in response, you look back to Sam, unresponsive and most certainly not breathing at this very moment. You knew you needed to act fast.
If the CPR class you took for kicks last summer was ever going to do you any good, now would be the time.
“Oh, god. Okay. I got this. I got this,” hands shaking you wipe the gravel off your hands before you press them, hard, one atop the other, in the center of his chest, silently praying that you don’t break any ribs, “Sorry, Sam…”
You were still shaking by the time you got to the hospital. Whether it was from the ordeal or from the chill that had finally soaked into you, you didn’t know. Charlie urged you go with the paramedics who took Sam, and they needed someone to tell them what happened anyway. She excused her motives as liability reasons, since the accident had technically occurred on her property, but you figured otherwise. Either way, you were too worried about him to refuse, especially in the split second you had to decide as he was getting hoisted into the ambulance.
Following after the doctors and nurses as they wheel him through the emergency room, you’re quickly stopped by one of them as you come to a set of large double doors, which Sam quickly disappears behind, “Sorry, only family past this point.”
“But---”
“Are you family, ma’am?”
“N-No, but---”
“Then, you can’t accompany him.”
“I’m--- I’m his fiancée!”
Your hand goes over your mouth as soon as you’ve said it. Shit, why did you just lie? The guilt is immediate and you’re about to backtrack, but the nurse changes his tune at the information.
“Oh! Well, why didn’t you say so? This way, please!”
You don’t know why your feet follow him or why you keep to yourself the fact that you weren’t, in fact, this stranger’s fiancée, but the deeper you find yourself going into the hospital, the more you convince yourself that this is only until you make sure Sam is okay. He didn’t have anyone with him, so you were the only one there to check in on him. After all, what harm could it do if you just stayed long enough to make sure he was okay?
Besides, it was too late to tell anyone otherwise now, right?
You wrestle with the realization of your deception until you’re drawn out of it by a different nurse than before, a shorter, kind-looking older lady who smiles sympathetically at you, “Mr. Winchester has been transferred to the third floor, so you can go to his room, now. I can take you, if you’d like?”
“Oh, no, I can find it. Third floor, right?” you confirm, wishing to be out of the family waiting room as quickly as possible. You knew that you don’t belong there, and the guilt was already eating at you for having lied earlier. It put you on edge, but the slight worry made everything much clearer as you sought out his room, as if it were a task to complete.
You’d just make sure he was alright, then you’d leave, and go back to being the girl at the coffee shop that he didn’t know existed. That’s that. The way it was meant to be.
When the elevator dinged, signalling the third floor, you find the nurse’s station easily enough, and they give you his room number freely since you’re his fiancée, after all, and it was just so wonderful you were there to stay by his side. It was a smaller room that they had him in, lined with glass so the nurses could monitor him at their station, which made you feel a little more at ease that maybe he wouldn’t be as alone as you thought. At least the nurses would be keeping a watch over him. It also made you feel a bit less awkward, as if you weren’t doing something wrong by staring through the glass to make sure he wasn’t currently on the brink of death anymore.
By the time you become satisfied that you’ve done all you can, nearly ready to turn and leave, you’re caught by an older man in a lab coat who had headed your way, “Ah, you must be Mr. Winchester’s fiancée. I’m Dr. Stanton. Why don’t we go in, so I can get you up to speed on what’s been happening with him?”
“Oh, uh,” you glance away from the doctor, trying to come up with an excuse to leave and failing, before you inevitably follow him into the room with a meek, “okay.”
“I know you must be very worried right now, after an ordeal like you’ve been through--- I understand you performed CPR after the accident?” Dr. Stanton was a mature-looking man, with kind eyes and a receding hairline. He fixed you with a sympathetic stare, over the glasses which must have been for reading, as he didn’t seem to need them to watch your reaction.
“Yes--- Well, I tried, at least. I only took a layman’s class last summer, because my friend, Charlie, got on a worst-case-scenario kick,” you admit, before adding with worry, “I didn’t hurt him any, did I? No...” you linger on the words, sparing a worried glance to Sam and fixating on his chest, though you can’t see any bandages through the hospital gown they had him in, “broken bones, right?”
“Oh, no, no! You didn’t break any ribs, thankfully. In fact, you may just have given him the time he needed to get to the hospital---”
“Oh, my god!” wails from the door to the hospital room, drawing yours and the doctor’s attention to a blonde woman who rushes to Sam’s side immediately, trailed after by a tall man who had a salt-and-pepper beard, and two others. “What happened to my boy?”
“Sam?” the second man, wearing a worn-looking baseball cap, calls out, to no response. He looks towards the brunette woman at his side, “When was the last time you heard from him, Ellen?”
“You know that boy hasn’t been home in over a year, Bobby! I haven’t heard from him no more than you,” she huffs, before moving towards the blonde woman to offer a comforting hand on her shoulder, “He’ll be fine, Mary. I know it. That boy of yours is strong.”
“Excuse me, but who are all of you?” Dr. Stanton huffs, clearly a bit perplexed by the sudden influx of people into the room.
It’s Salt-and-Pepper who speaks, all firm brow and frown as he fixes the doctor with a stern look, “I’m Sam’s father, John Winchester, and this is my wife, Mary,” he gestures to the blonde currently grasping Sam’s hand, “What happened to him? We were told on the phone he was in some sort of accident---”
You ease towards the door, hoping to slip out relatively unnoticed now that Sam’s family had arrived, but you’re stopped in your tracks by a girl who appeared to have been at the back of the pack, lingering by the door. She was about your age, maybe a bit younger.
Looking you over, apparently sizing you up with a scrutinizing look, she states boldly, “You aren’t dressed like a nurse,” which draws the attention of the rest of the family, as her arms cross over her chest, “Who even are you?”
“I’m… (Y/N),” you manage dumbly, noting the growing silence at your lack of real explanation, “I’m, uh…”
“Mr. Winchester’s fiancée,” Dr. Stanton clarifies slowly, as if to remind them, as he looks on incredulously.
“Fiancée?!” John nearly shouts, anger boiling under the surprise in his tone, “That’s just like him! Moving off! Not even bothering to tell his family he’s getting married!” John’s hand grabbing the end of the bed roughly makes a loud, banging noise that makes you jump in surprise. Wow, looks like things are not peachy in this family dynamic.
“You don’t think you have anything to do with why Sam doesn’t share with the rest of us how he lives his life? You just had to keep pushing him about the family business,” Mary shoots back, quieting her husband with one cold look. That doesn’t stop John from scoffing, or glaring his attention back to you in a way that put you on edge at the fire behind his dark eyes.
“He woulda’ told Dean, though! And Dean woulda’ told me!” the girl currently standing between you and the exit huffs, still not buying it.
“Jo, honey,” Ellen begins, moving from Mary to her daughter, a slightly wistful glint in her eye, “I wouldn’t be so sure of that nowadays. You know how private Sam’s got. I don’t even think Dean talks to him like he used to.”
“It’s a surprise… but it’s not like Sam’s ever been too keen on bringing home his girlfriends before,” Bobby adds softly, looking on sadly at Sam before his eyes are drawn back to you. “At least you seem more level-headed than the last one. She was a handful.”
“Can we please get back to what, exactly, happened to my son?” Mary demands from the doctor, getting his attention with her snap of annoyance. “Why isn’t he waking up?!”
“He’s in a coma,” Dr. Stanton frowns, before following up the swift blow with, “but his brain waves appear normal. There was some brain swelling from the concussion due to the car accident, but luckily there are no broken bones. He’s a tough one, your son. We expect him to heal adequately, but these things just take time. We’re keeping him heavily medicated as well, which can contribute to the sedation, but we want him to use as little energy as possible while he heals. It truly would have been much worse had his fiancée not given him emergency CPR at the scene.”
“You… you did that?” John’s glare softens a bit at that, astonished at your life-saving efforts, only for you to be cut off from forming any response when a pair of strong arms pull you into an embrace that knocks the wind out of you. Awkwardly, you lean into it, giving a tense hug in return to Mary, who had a deceptively good grip that forced you to linger until she was ready to pull back.
She blinks away the tears that brimmed her lashes just as quickly as they appeared, but you still catch it, as well as the slight strain to her voice when she thanks you, “Thank you for caring so much about Sam. He would… he’s going to be so grateful when he wakes up. He was… lucky you were around.” The way she says it, like it was almost hard for her to admit, makes you acutely aware that she must not say things like this too often. You were about to tell her that, no, you did what anyone would have done, but you don’t have the chance to formulate your words into an appropriate response, despite the lingering pause that permeated the hospital room, accompanying the repetitive beeping of Sam’s vitals on the monitor.
“You know what, why don’t you come to the family dinner on Sunday?” Ellen offers you a smile, trying to lighten the mood and fill the silence, “After all, you’re gonna’ be family soon enough, and we have some getting to know each other to do.”
“That’s a great idea, Ellen,” Bobby chips in with a laugh, giving a familiar pat to Sam’s calf, “This boy’s kept ya’ all to himself for long enough!”
“Wow, that’s...” you find yourself at a loss for words yet again. They all were so welcoming, so ready to take you into their homes, all looking so hopefully that you would accept the offer. Once again, your mouth does exactly the opposite of what your mind was telling it to do, and accepts the offer, “That sounds... great, actually.”
“Oh, Dean’s gonna’ love this,” Jo’s sarcastic tone draws your attention to her.
“Jo,” Ellen warns, but Jo ignores it.
“What, Mama? You know it’s true!” You raise a brow as she looks down at Sam with a sigh, “He’s gonna’ go crazy when he finds out Sam’s kept this a secret. They used to tell each other everything before, well… before. If Dean didn’t know about this, he’s gonna’ be crushed.”
“Sam and Dean are close?” you ask tentatively.
Jo looks at you like the answer is clear, before she adds, “Well, duh, they’re brothers.”

THINGS I LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT RP PARTNERS.
FILL IN :
i like to be called: Megan (just my name works fine)
my favourite colour is: black. silver. green. purple. I like several of them.
gender: female
one thing you should know about me: I’ve been RPing for so long now (especially with this muse because I always come back to him) that I don’t think I’ll ever be rid of him completely. I love exploring him, making him grow, delving into headcanons and things--it’s what has made him “my” creation rather than just an extension of the show in which “inspired” him.
one thing you should know about my muse/s: Years ago (when I first started writing Lucifer here on his very first blog), he was strictly a canon-based SPN creation. Nothing fancy, just... that’s all she wrote. I’ve spent years since developing him, taking him where the show doesn’t, delving into his mind and psyche and embracing this character wholeheartedly that he’s basically mine and so divergent from the show (especially those destructive and horrible “we don’t talk about it” later seasons) that saying he’s “canon divergent is an understatement and I just say he’s “inspired by” SPN. He’s really more MINE than anything, with a hint of SPN inspiration at the core, which is why I love for people to at least browse through some of the about pages (or ask questions) before assuming things about him.
first language: English
second language: I may have taken numerous semesters of Spanish, but none of it ever quite stuck.... oops.
HIGHLIGHT :
age range:   under 13 ﹥ 14–17 ﹥ 18–22 ﹥ 23–25 ﹥ 26–29 ﹥ 30+﹥ 70+.
am i okay with nsfw?   yes ﹥ no ﹥ sometimes ﹥ not for this muse.
my favorite or most common thing to rp is: angst ﹥ fluff ﹥ smut﹥ crack ﹥ action﹥other.
oc friendly?   yes ﹥ no ﹥ depends ﹥ always. (I have to be “familiar” with the fandom/character/need a backstory and/or about page or something. Don’t just throw a random as hell OC at me w/no info whatsoever.)
rp blog:   does contain ooc posts ﹥ does not contain ooc posts.
TAGGED BY  : no one ; stolen from the dash
TAGGING : @ anyone who wants to

meme for roleplay muns    /    ACCEPTING ↷
Tumblr media
5. What is a character you love, but don’t think you can write? :: rowena macleod. she’s my absolute favourite spn female character and i love her, but i don’t think i have voice for her. same for spn crowley. i adore him. could i write him? shittily, maybe, so nah. the master from doctor who. sun kwon from lost. dani clayton from bly manor.
12. Do you prefer writing main or minor canon characters? :: i don’t really mind either which way, as in, i don’t pick based on that at all? i write who i connect to and want to write.
18. What is one thing you’d wish to see more in the rp community? :: erm, i’m shit at this myself, but just the courage to randomly dm each other (whether you’ve even talked before or not) half-finished thoughts of rp ideas? plotting shouldn’t need to be this daunting, intricate thing, and i wish people, myself included, were more comfortable just randomly messaging with “i saw you reblog that meme and that sentence i sent made me think of my muse meeting your muse in [this random half formed thought of a setting i can explain in five words]”! and that there wouldn’t need to be expectation of the other person responding to it with more than just “ooh i like it” or even agreeing with it. i have nothing against small talk or more in depth plotting, but i wish randomly tossing a smol idea without small talk or expectation of more plotting would be more... common!
22. Are there any red roleplay flags for you that make you back off immedately? :: any kinda fandom anti rhetoric. rules having stuff like “if you write gross shit like...” “don’t be a freak” or even threats of physical violence (i wish i was joking) towards people who enjoy something in fiction. (please note that there is a difference between the above and just saying “i’m not comfortable with...” “dni if you write...”; this is not a red flag, this is cool and what people should do! as opposed to calling people freaks or gross for fictional stuff and so on.) nothing makes me unfollow/block a mutual faster than seeing them reblog a post that calls people who write [insert topic here] names or calling for censorship of fictional depictions of things (not the same at all than setting personal boundaries on what you want to not see on your dash). or people sharing callouts based on fictional stuff. like, entirely regardless of my own opinion on the topics in question. i can find a topic in fiction squicky or even triggery, i will still feel safer around someone who writes that topic as opposed to someone who wants to police what other people can or can’t depict. also, individual urls on people’s dni lists. i don’t care about whether those urls are there for valid reasons or not. i sitll won’t follow you if i see you have that kinda dnis. on the former, i would not hesitate to block or unfollow a mutual i’d been writing with or even friendly with (if we were close enough ooc that i trusted them, i might extend the courtesy of discussing it ooc first, but also someone supporting that kinda rhetoric makes me lose my trust in people super fast and feel unsafe around them). on the latter, i might make an exception and tolerate it if it’s someone i’m friends with.

Writing Tips for Sam and Dean
I’ll let you all know that Im not a seasoned writer like many of you are, I only have a handful of fics under my belt. Not all are fan faves, some people don’t like the ship (most of my stuff is low smut wincest) or maybe they don’t like the ending, but Sam and Dean are the primary focus of all of my stories (except The One Who Remembers which is all Sam) and I am always told that I kept them in character well, which I take great pride in. For me, if they are not in character, then Im not reading Sam and Dean, Im reading a story about other people with the same names.  This isn’t to say Sam and Dean can’t or shouldn’t be written OOC, they can be written any way you want them to be and thats perfectly fine, but if you want to write them, and keep them real, I hope these tips will help. Choose a Season: This is pretty important because both brothers change over the years. Sam especially. Dean changes, but not as rapidly as Sam does. Like, I cant believe that S7 Sam and S8 Sam are the same person, or that they’re even related to S1 Sam, or become S12 Sam. Dean’s character changes, but more subtly and over a longer period of time. So if you’re going to have a silly yet over protective Dean, dial back to seasons 1-3 and choose a Sam from those seasons. (sure, you absolutely can interchange them, I just personally find the story flows nicer if my head is in the same season for both)
Pretend it’s an Episode: Even if you’re going to add language, violence, and smut that would never be seen on the show, imagine yourself watching what you’re writing. What does the scene look like, where are they, what would their facial expressions show. It’s good to visualize the scene. This can help you when you’re stuck for their next line. Take a moment to describe the scenary, and think, “what do I expect would happen next” and go from there. Sometimes, its just the kick you need. Dean is Easier to Write For: He just is. This is not an insult to either brother, it is simply because Dean is an extrovert, and Sam is an introvert. Dean always lets us know how he’s feeling, Sam doesn’t. This is a big reason why I think most fics and even most episodes seem to be more from Dean’s POV than Sam’s even when they’re Sam centric. The original formula for the show was to be Sam’s journey, through Dean’s eyes. I don’t think they’ve stuck to that for the most part, but I do think its why the characters are written that way. Most of the time, for us to have a clue what Sam is thinking, we need to watch his facial expressions and body language.
For an example - Regarding Dean. When Dean is cured and tricks Sam into thinking he still didnt have his memory, Sam didnt say anything, but looked upset. Then Dean laughed, and let him know he was joking, and all Sam said was “Not funny.” But he went through about 5 emotions in his face in 2 seconds flat. Had it been the other way around, and Sam played like he didnt remember Dean, Dean would have been vocal “What the hell?? You said you could fix him!!!” and when Sam let him know he was joking, Dean probably would have laughed, barked at Sam, probably threaten to kick his ass (lovingly of course) and probably hugged him (hmmm now I wish it had been Sam that lost his memory lol)  So you’re writing a scene in which Sam is emotional. He may talk about what’s on his mind, but most is going to be left in his mind, and not become words. You can make him say something, but then show what he’s thinking. Maybe he doesnt say a word, but looks at Dean or, something, and then you express his thoughts.[ Sam’s hands were shaking. Dean put a hand on his shoulder “You okay Sammy?”  “I’m fine” Sam replied, hoping to hide how terrified he was.] If the situation is reversed, Dean will probably say that he’s scared.  Notice their normal speech patterns and habits: Dean uses a lot of pop culture references. Sam does sometimes, but not to the extent that Dean does. Sam huffs a lot. Try to include this the best way you can; words like “huff, breath, breathes, exhales, and sighs are good words to use. Dean uses a lot more words than Sam does to express a thought. This doesn’t mean Sam doesn’t say profound things, he just gets to the point faster, however, when he does use a lot of dialogue, every word has intent, he doesn’t use many extra words like “very” or “really” all that often. He also tends to state things twice, like “I believe you, I do” or “Im happy, I am”  and Dean will often use hyperbole “Its been a really really really REALLY long long long long time” and don’t forget, Dean says “awesome” a lot! Romance, Fluff, and Sex: A lot of you wont write Wincest, and thats fine, but you will probably write fluff and bromance. In true SPN character, Dean is mainly dominant, and Sam is submissive, however, this isn’t the case all the time, so in a sexual situation, since they have no canonical sex, theres nothing OOC about making either dom or sub, or switching it up. Since their onscreen life is platonic, the logistics of sex is whatever you want them to be, any kinks or what have you, is all up for grabs, but if you want to keep the brothers in character, try not to change their chemistry and personalities in bed from what it is out of bed. Sam isn’t likely the one to talk dirty, Dean probably does. Sam probably rolls his eyes and pretends he doesnt like it. Dean is naturally less inhibitted than Sam, and Sam naturally over thinks things. Neither are overly needy, but like feeling like the most important thing in the world to the other. Remember they’re brothers, They have spent most of their lives together and have no need to impress the other, so don’t feel like they wouldnt laugh, make jokes, or tease each other during intimate times. They can be heartbreakingly, and painfully honest, and also immature, giant 12 year olds. Even if you arent writing sex for them, this goes just as well for fluff and general bromance.  If you are writing sex, dont feel the need to establish that one or both are gay or bisexual. This is not necessary given their relationship. Their sexuality is established as historically straight in canon, so if they DO have sex with each other, they are the only male’s they have ever had sex with..... more than likely. Stay away from making either of them too feminine. Both have natural femine qualities that can be used, but they will go right out of character if one begins to act female, or if the other is treating him as such. Stay away from typical fanon wincest terms like “baby boy” or “daddy”, Sam would probably punch Dean if he called him “baby boy” and Dean’s mood would be lost of Sam called him “Daddy”... face it, their daddy issues are not of the sexual nature, but again, this is only if you want to keep them in character. They have their own things they call each other, like little brother, buddy, Dee (a name only used once so keep that in mind too) brother, big brother, which work pretty well, but theyre not the most endeering, so you can get creative, but, if youre keeping them in character, maybe stay away from “honey” or “sweetheart” I hope these hints help, and if you are writing and need help with writing for this wonderful characters, please dont hesitate to message me, Id be honored to help!!

So, @bluestar86 is finally back on tumblr *throwsconfetti*, but she didn’t spent her tumblr hiatus doing nothing but binge watched How to get away with murder instead (good choice) and was pleased to learn about the show’s diversity & queer representation. And I hope you don’t mind that I quote you here, but it is actually what this post is about (yes, I have a point)
All this show has lead me to believe is that it is SO NOT HARD to show REAL bisexual characters on mainstream television, OR to show REAL INTIMACY between gay men on TV and not make a big fucking deal out of it. Jesus, this show made me kinda PISSED OFF at Supernatural really because while they’re still keeping Dean Winchester firmly in the fucking closet HTGAWM just laid it all on the table in the first season. Urgh. I hate Bob Singer.
I know, I know, I can’t really compare the two… except I fucking can and will. Because we are not comparing SPN to a show on Netflix or HBO here, we are comparing it to fucking ABC during primetime and frankly, the CW needs to up its game and SPN needs to grow some balls.[x]
And I mainly agree with this, except... this isn’t a CW problem. It is a Supernatural problem. Because if we look at the shows the CW is currently airing there are actually a lot queer characters. Mind you, I’m not catched up on any show (CW or not) currently except Spn, so my data here is not up to date and I don’t watch all these shows, so I just name the characters I know off who are queer (and recurring characters). So if I miss out on some feel free to add.
2005: Supernatural: Charlie Bradbury, introduced in s7, came out in her first episode
2009: The Vampire Diaries: Luke in s5 and s6;  Nora & Mary-Louise in s7, all queer from the start, I probably forgot some
2012: Arrow: Sara, came out as bisexual in s2; Curtis in s4 and s5, queer from the start
2013: The Originals: Joshua since s1, Aiden since s2, both queer from the start
2013: Reign
2014: The 100: Clarke, main character, came out as bisexual in s2
2014: The Flash
2014: Jane the Virgin
2015: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
2015: iZombie
2016: Legends of Tomorrow: Sara, since it is a spin off from Arrow she is queer from the start
2015: Supergirl: Alex, main character, came out in s2 (when the show moved from CBS to the CW)
2017: Riverdale: Kevin, queer from the start
As you can see, the network doesn’t have a problem with queer characters. And some of them aren’t random side-characters, but main characters. And not all have been introduced as queer from the start but some had their coming out later in the show. With some, like Clarke in The 100, there wasn’t much buzz about it, as in Clarke was always bisexual, the audience just didn’t know until s2. Others, as Alex in Supergirl, had a beautiful coming-out-story.
So where does this leave Supernatural? I added the time the show started airing, and as you can see Supernatural is the oldest. They are even older than the network they are airing on (the first season was on the WB). The second oldest show, TVD, just ended this year. And as you can see they added queer characters pretty late to the show (s6, s7). (I might forgot about some though.... there had been a lot of characters on this show in 8 years... I think Caroline’s dad was gay from the start though) That is to say that of course newer shows of course start out more progressive and diverse than Spn did back in 2005. There aren’t many shows that even make it to season 12, so in some ways it feels like Spn is a show out of time. That isn’t to say they are completely stuck in their old ways. I think they try to be more diverse, to add more poc-characters, more female characters, more queer characters etc. But still, if Spn would be a new(er) show I think they would have created some chraracters quite different from the start.
And that’s another thing: changing a character after almost 12 years. Of course I don’t think if the show would confirm Dean as bisexual and/or we get canon Destiel the character/the show would change at all. Dean would be still Dean after all. Yet some would scream OOC. And there has been a great discussion about the very nature of OOC characters on @k-vichan blog (which you can read here). The John example there applies to Dean/Destiel as well. If you already interpret Dean as bi/Destiel as a thing, making it canon wouldn’t surprise you. But if you don’t, it most definitely would. Revealing a characer is queer in s2 is different than doing it in s12. Because we can argue that in early seasons we still learn who this character is (and that is so great about HTGAWM, s3 and I still don’t know who Annelise is). But after a decade we all have a very good idea who Dean is. And it is different than subverting for example Mary, because she wasn’t a rel character before s12 (@elizabethrobertajones wrote some great meta about this). This isn’t meant as an excuse though, but just might be a reason why Spn is so hesitant in revealing Dean as bi. Then of course doing it now/that late in the show would be great because how many times does something like this happen? Seeing a character in his thirties/almost forties having his coming out. Because those things aren’t limited to age. And this season is all about subverting how the show was before/past seasons. And Dean is realy tired of lying lately. Plus of course all the great Destiel content we already this season.
So yeah, my point is: this is not about the CW. It is about Supernatural. But with Dabb as a showrunner and the current direction of the show (which I am a great fan of) I remain hopefull.

12x19: The Future
The boys were as beautiful as ever, Sam’s season 12 hair might be beating out season 8′s for my favorite. SO gloriously fluffy and full-bodied, my god.
And Amanda Tapping was directing them, aww! And yay for finally having some female directors, took long enough.
As per my SOP, negativity under the cut.
Okay, I have a question. There is a thing among some Wincest/bibro fans, that they want SPN to “go back to the basics,” when Sam & Dean had the majority of the story time. And there are arguments against this wish, that it’s just people hating on the other characters.
But seriously, does anyone actually like these non-Winchester stories? I love Cas, I do. But I find him a hundred times more interesting when he’s interacting with the Winchesters than anyone else.
...Well, okay, I actually really like his story with Claire and wish that hadn’t been dropped. So maybe the problem here is that I find Kelly Kline’s story at once stomach-churningly disturbing and incredibly boring, and I don’t even know how the show’s managing to strike that balance but I wish they weren’t. And Lucifer, who I actually liked way past his welcome (I enjoyed the hell out of Casifer, I thought Misha was tremendously entertaining, at least for the first few eps) I have now reached the point that I am bringing up tumblr to block the video window when he’s on screen.
I was mildly enjoying Dagon because the actress seemed to be having fun with the role, but now that’s over. And Cas is...brainwashed? Or what?
I didn’t buy Cas throughout this episode. Betraying the Winchesters, again...I know part of Cas’s deal is that he’s an angel, he doesn’t process things the same way as humans, he is basically morally disabled. But seriously, that he would go along with Joshua’s plan and not even give the Winchesters a chance, when they still had nearly a month to come up with something -- I don’t buy it. I’m not angry with the character because it just seems so OOC to me.
And I still don’t understand why Cas lied about going to Heaven. More than that -- what the heck was Cas doing up there? He was there for, what, weeks? To have a conversation with Joshua? I really thought he was going to come back reprogrammed, but he didn’t appear to be. So what took so long?
At least what we got of Sam & Dean was pretty good. I mean, they were almost entirely useless, but I’m becoming resigned to that. And Dean chewing out Cas for disappearing on them would have been more effective if their shot against Dagon hadn’t been so bungled, like, guys, you couldn’t come up with SOME kind of plan, holy fire or a Men of Letters spell, anything more involved than point the Colt and shoot?
Also, when Cas comes into Dean’s room, Dean is running some kind of search or something on his laptop. But he says specifically that Sam is looking for Kelly. So what is Dean doing? Has he really gone through all the other porn on the internet and now has to hack databases to get it?
But anyway -- holy moly Dean actually expressed some concern for Sam!!!!!!!! Okay just telling him to get some sleep but I am parched, I will take it. (even if a couple moments later I could hear Sam fans crying out to the wilderness in one outraged voice when Dean described Gadreel so cavalierly, sigh.) And Sam with his absurdly long legs up on the library table, that’s how Dean knew he was tired. Then exhausted Sam echoing everything Dean says. And you can see their carved initials on the table, awwwwwwwwwww.
Dean fixing the truck -- how long has it been since he’s done anything mechanically inclined? Appreciated that. Also that Dean is the one person who actually managed to pull his shot against Dagon rather than firing and missing. (Okay, that’s a pretty sad accomplishment, especially compared to Sam badassedly emptying his clip. But I am grasping at whatever straws I can get that justify Dean even being a hunter anymore.)
(I really, really wish there was some explanation for Dean this season. He’s been off for a lot of it -- even quicker to anger, impatient with research (we haven’t seen him with a book once), dismissive of innocents. And lately, ineffective at hunting. He’s had occasional moments of caring, but Sam’s been there and outshining him for almost all of them. I’m having to squint to see the character I love, and what bugs me is that there hasn’t been any in-canon acknowledgment that anything’s changed. In season 7 (when I originally quit watching the show because I stopped liking Dean) he was difficult to like, but there were a lot of mentions that something was wrong with him. This season there are several issues he could be struggling with (Mary being back, obviously, but also Chuck putting the world on their shoulders, and the BMOL shaking down the MOL, when Dean was always so proud to be a legacy). But it feels more like there’s nothing meant to be wrong, this is just who the current writers feel Dean is.)
(Admittedly Sam hasn’t been faring much better, as the writers seem to have mistaken him for a Vulcan, smart and competent, but not affected by emotions, so that he can be compassionate, and accomplish things, but not really be involved with them. Though he at least still is allowed to care about Dean. And be an effective hunter occasionally.)
But to end on a better note -- “Team Free Will” is back in parlance, aww. And Cas apparently has his own room (15) in the bunker! Am still disappointed that, despite that nominal emphasis, Sam has yet to have a single scene alone with Cas this season. (though this ep was very Sam-light anyways, probably due to Jared’s daughter’s birth.) But the show continues its trend of offering Destiel with one hand (Dean gave him a mixtape -- of Zeppelin! -- really now, talk about tossing a giant cassette-shaped bone to the shippers, even before he shoves Cas against a wall) and on the other slipping over the Sastiel under the table (Sam could read Cas better than Dean, to bug his phone.)

Prompt by my friend: "What if BAU dealt with something Supernatural?"
She is a broke-college student who just wants a damn normal life for once, but then gets smacked in the middle of a crossfire by both worlds. A series of bodies drop like fishes; some of her former high school classmates are dead and she has become a target.
To say that BAU is on their way to solve the case, now the TFW is also on the move. How can she put her two uncles, Aaron Hotchner and David Rossi, and the rest of the team away from the other side; while not wanting her favourite hunters to be caught by the FBI again?
Fuck her life, right?

Fan Fic is Better Than This!!
If you have ever said this about Supernatural or any of the shows/movies you like, I have a couple things to say to you.
1.  You’re absolutely right!
 2.  You read too much fan fic! Ill get to both of these points, in just a sec, just let me say first, I am not insulting neither readers, nor writers of fan fic, I am both myself, so no need to get defensive, but please give me a few (maybe more) minutes, and hear me out :) I see a lot of SPN fans complain about the show, for any number of reasons, but one thing keeps being said by the complainer, and that is “I’ve read better fan fiction!” And well, of course you did! Anyone who has a favorite fic, or really anyone who has read more than 3 fics, knows that fan fiction is better. The reason being, is simpy the lack of restrictions. Supernatural is restricted by many things, the channel that its on, prevents the language used, the amount of sex and violence, and even the themes. The actors, Jared and Jensen age every day (im sure they wouldnt mind changing that hehe) the show’s own canon  (even though sometimes it’s overlooked) and the PTB’s desire to not take the story certain places... ie, no ships will become canon most likely. However, Fan Fiction has no restrictions. If you dont like the way an episode or story arch ended, you can find a fix it fic for pretty much anything, If youd like w*ncest or d*stiel or s*stiel to be explored, you need to go to fan fic, because it wont be on the show.  So, really, saying you have read better fan fic is redundant. The purpose of fan fic is to be better than the show. Imagine, your favorite fan fic played out on screen. Wouldnt it be awesome? Or, is there an episode you liked so much that you thought “OMG, that was better than fan fic!” Probably not, if you have read it, and have any that you like at all.  My second point is to say, that you may possibly read too much fan fic
When we reach for fan fic, it is usually because something in the show grabbed us as exciting, intriguing, sexy, painful or any interest really, and it inspired us to think about it in different ways. Example, I like when Sam has been sick or hurt and Dean comforts him, or vise versa, so I like reading hurt!comfort fics because the show doesnt get into it enough, or deep enough. I loved The Trials, when Sam was sick and emotional, and Dean wanted so bad to take care of him, he carried a thermometer around with him! But it passed so quickly, I really wasnt satisfied, so I go look for fics on that topic. I didnt like the way 12x2 ended after all Sam’s torture, he didnt recieve any comfort, so I wrote a fix it fic. I think this is how all us reader/writers do this right? However the problem is that because we read or write so much fan fic, that we kinda forget that some things never happen in canon, or happen very rarely, and sady this makes the show seem boring. Like I loved the “Nothing past or present I would put before you” speech so much, but stuff like that happens rarely on the show, yet its in pretty much any angsty Sam/Dean fan fic.  Now, fan fiction is like a drug. We all remember when we first fell in love with the show, and the characters. All that excitement and emotion that kept us coming back even through crappy episodes, or even crappy seasons. So we go back and re-watch our favorites, but even that desensitizes us. After 25 watches, even Swan Song doesn’t pack the same punch. So we itch for new episodes, hoping to feel that way again, episodes with such an impact are very few and far between, especially when we have to watch week by week. So we reach for fan fic to get us through, and even though its artificial, it fills us with that excitment and emotion again, until eventually, another epic episode airs, and leaves us flat “It was ok, but Ive read better fan fic” not even realizing fan fiction cannot be duplicated on screen.  Eventually, even are favorite fan fics dont do the trick and we need new ones, with more of this, and less of that, and maybe try some of this thing for spice, but fan fiction always expands, and the show can only go so far. If you were a big fan of soulless!sam you can only enjoy about 9 episodes of him, or you can read 200 fan fics (maybe more) about him, and even anticipate more coming out. Maybe you think Demon Dean wasn’t explored enough? Theres dozens of fics on him too, and how about a team up of Demon Dean and Soulless Sam? The show isn’t likely to bring those 2 back, but you can visit them in writing whenever you want. You think/hope/wish Sam and/or Dean are bisexual even though the show never even hints such a thing? Fan fic remedies that, but read enough and you’ll start to believe the show supports it, and then when it shows otherwise, it may upset you, or make it seem like the boys are OOC when attracted to a female.  Again, I have no problem with fan fiction itself. Its fun and I like writing and reaging it, but I appreciate the great things the show has given us, even stuck in their restrictions, and sometimes those restrictions encourage me to write a fic that would be better than what Ive seen on screen. So maybe change the thought a little. Instead of saying “Ive read better fan fiction” watch a bad episode and think “Ive read worse fan fiction” because I know you have done that also ;)
