Apparently the best kind of inspiration is Neil Gaiman posting something fun on one’s birthday.

i'm so casually/vaguely interested in good omens that i was sad about "season 3" basically just being a movie for about 10 minutes before i moved on. but i can't stop thinking that if people really cared that much about terry pratchett and his legacy, they might wonder if he would've even wanted a good omens seasons 2 or season 3... considering the book did not have a sequel and he literally had his hard drives destroyed with a steamroller as one of his last wishes when he died because he didn't want other people to capitalize on trying to complete and publish his unfinished novels... or they might also be more upset on terry's behalf that neil gaiman spent decades of friendship with him hiding what a rotten person he really was, and that if anyone or anything is damaging terry's legacy it's entirely neil's fault. also, terry's legacy consists of dozens upon dozens of other books that have nothing to do with that guy anyway!

tumblr is my happy place, BUT I need to say something difficult (TW: general discussion of sexual assault)
I read the Neil Gaiman article in Vulture yesterday. I'm not gonna repost it, you can find it if you want to read it. I'm not a Neil Gaiman fan, and most certainly am not diving into that back catalog now.
As a victim of sexual assault (by someone I'd call a charismatic elder and performative ally) when I was in college, this article was the clearest nonfiction piece I've ever read about the victim's experience of SA. The confusion and doubt and the sort of visceral clarity that comes after. I was taken back to some dark places when reading the victims' accounts.
I knew it would be a rough read and I was capable of doing so because I've had 20 years to sift thru the wreckage of my experience and be capable of bearing witness. If you're not ready for that, you don't have to read it. I hope the victims can learn that being vulnerable and soft is a great strength- you can't blame yourself for a bad person taking advantage. That vulnerability is human. It's how we make friends. It's how we survive.
As a writer of RPF reading something like this is awful and feels cautionary somehow. Someone is mourning their blorbos. That's OK. It's not your fault as a fan when the information you formerly held as true is disproven. You don't bear the burden of shitty people. You can only choose what to do with what you learned.
This article reminded me of why I have my own Ethics of RPF. These are my rules because I need them. They help me focus on what matters. Maybe they'll be helpful for someone else too:
Don't break the veil between the real world and your writing on tumblr/Ao3/wherever. You're writing fiction. Keep it fiction. Use whatever freely given source material you find in the wild but don't try to create it. We're all just people.
My engagement with fandom needs to be better than in real life. The whole of the internet needs to be better than in real life, or I need to go touch grass. This is for me. It should be fun. If it's not, find something else. And if my blorbo hurts my friends in this fandom, I'm cutting them from my life with the sharpest knife I can find.
Be kind to yourselves today. If any of my mutuals want to talk, my messages are open to you. ❤️

Just finished dead boy detectives and I loved it. The cinematography was beautiful, love the the characters, and speaking of characters- WHAT THE FUCK DID EDWIN DO TO THE CREATORS OF THIS SHOW?! THEY GOT SOMETHING AGAINST TRAGIC GAY MEN WITH BOY TIES AND AUTISM?! DIDN’T SEE THIS SHIT IN YOUNG SHELDON- WTF??
Edit: full credit to Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz and everyone else who worked hard on this amazing show. The Neil Gaimen thing in the tags is supposed to be a kind of call back to a good omens post I made a while ago. Did not mean to miscredit or anything of the sort.

"i'm not saying the women accusing him are lying, but here are all the reasons they're being suspicious and we shouldn't believe them"
be serious.
[ this post is about believing victims/survivors who come forward and prioritizing their needs and safety. do not fucking clown about electoral politics or fandom on this post. and for fucks safe, do not list any reasons not to believe someone's story on this post. in fact don't do that at all in general!! just shut the fuck up unless you have Actually Firsthand Proof that You Personally Experienced about the Specific Event In Question, and even then recognize that your version of what happened is probably still less relevant than theirs! ]

art, passion and details
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It never fails to amaze me the grandeur of commitment from the people who worked in the production of this show. It's so clear that this people truly love what they do, they do it with passion, love and creativity. And it's a shame to see how the industry treats them all.
They deserve the best, they deliver art and inspire us, this is the kind of thing that makes us artists wanna go further in our craft, and improve, and innovate.
Much thanks to the lovely Mickey Ralph (graphic designer) for answering and reaching to Michael Ralph (production designer) on this question, and thanks to Michael for responding too.
The same way, it amazes me the eye for detail in this fandom. Since I've joined it I've seen wonderful pieces of art, wonderful thoughts, theories, analysis, and that too is inspiring, it genuinely made me engage in more art projects and took me off the bottomless pit of creativity where I was for years now. This community is exquisite.
And thanks to @kartatchk for the amazing discovery, it made my day (and of many other in this fandom, I believe)

Tumblr media
I’ve already attached this to a re-blog, but it feels like something that I want to post as a standalone as well. Sometimes I scream into the tumblr void about shit. Thanks to a gifted copy of The Body Keeps the Score I’m doing more DIY therapy work and processing some of my thoughts through the interwebs. So here’s a brain thing.
🎶Let’s talk about projection baby, let’s talk about you and me!!🎶 All joking aside, so many of us who deal with CPTSD use fictional works to process our trauma. We are outsourcing emotions and memories that we, for whatever reason, struggle to deal with unless there is some remove from the immediacy of them. We seek to find ourselves in characters, parallels in stories and situations for our own experiences. We live their struggles and triumphs as our own and so find catharsis within them. Aziraphale as a character is a particularly good example of this. He’s doing the thing so many of us who are trying to convince everyone else and ourselves that “we’re FINE, thank you!” do. He isn’t really processing his shit. He’s putting it on a third party to release some pressure before he completely loses it. And in so doing, us the audience, have gained a character that we both empathize and sympathize with, and in turn, use to work through much of our own trauma. I honestly think that’s why so many of us are waiting for S3 with bated breath. We need Az to figure it out. We need them both to heal. To defeat the odds. To find happiness. We’re all waiting for that because we need to believe that it’s something we can have too. If this Angel who foists 6 millennia of grief and rage and maddening questions about the “why” of everything off into an entire bookshop’s worth of stories and characters, if he can figure it out…surely we can too. Surely there is hope for us buried somewhere in the stacks. Surely there is some understanding that can be found, some catharsis or healing within the lines of these narratives. So we’re all holding our breath, our hope and our hearts, in our hands, waiting to finish the story, and in so doing, complete some part of ourselves. Finally framing those cracks where the light comes in, into something beautiful.

hey thanks for posting about palestine and spreading info.
I wanted to ask about the post you made about "the reigning zionist supreme" that doubled down on his stance hours after ahli hospital massacre on this site,
I didn't get who you were talking about but you had neil gaiman in the tags so I scrolled through his blog until almost the start of the month which if my memory serves me right is before the al ahli hospital massacre, and I couldn't find anything like you said.
if you could please show us what he said in screenshots that would be great.
just saw this ask, because tumblr sucks, and i wanted to find the original post for you but .. guess what? tumblr sucks.
Anyway, here is a link to the post about this with the screenshots.
Tumblr media
(and that is the ask answered on Oct 17th, same day of al ahi Hospital Massacre) To summarize the above lined post, on the same day of al ahli/ al mamadani hospital massacre, le great writer himself confirmed his 2015 statement that "israel has the right to exist" which is as we all know now is just Zionist rhetoric. Israel Does Not In Fact Have the right to steal palestinian land, bring in settlers from all over the globe while killing, torturing, raping, kidnapping, displacing, starving, and bombing Palestinians. "Israel" as an entity requires the oppression of Palestinians to maintain its ethnostate. Therefore, no it never has and it never will have the right to exist. Ergo, what he said is Zionism 101. I personally was unaware that one of my favorite writers holds that view because i don't do social media, and i don't make a habit of following people. Besides i liked terry better anyway. And even if we ignore all 75+ years of oppression as proof enough for neilman, one has to wonder why hasn't he changed his statement since then? Answer is he won't. His statement was "neutral" in times of debate to silence those unaware of what is happening or unable to recognize Zionist propaganda. And when the world is now screaming and there is no way to NOT TO BE AWARE, he himself remains silent. Anyone like him deserves to have his name dragged in the mud.
