Just as Anime has its Big Three, Beakman's World is part of the 90's strictly learning Edutainment's Big Three shows, alongside Bill Nye and The Magic School Bus (though the list is REALLY stacked when you take a good look at it).
And in terms of strictly Science related shows for kids, it's third behind Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye.
So don't sell yourself short on having missed the Bill Nye bandwagon early on. Knowledge and Fun know no age limits. Plus, having a show with an actual Mad Scientist in an MST3K-esque setting with a lab assistant and guy in a Rat suit is a pretty rad concept, all things considered.
Tumblr media
Confession I was a child when Bill Nye was on the air but missed his existence for years and instead only knew about these guys who aired in the same exact time slot on some other channel

ik shadow milk’s already getting plenty of appreciation as is but let me just add to that by saying it is SO refreshing to get a crk villain who is both fun and genuinely threatening, the ones who are entertaining usually tend to be as intimidating as a pathetic wet cat and the ones who actually pose a serious threat to the protagonists for more than three seconds tend to be as exciting as watching paint dry. getting a villain who is both comes once in a blue moon for this game AND he’s an excellent foil to pure vanilla?? top notch shit I can’t wait for the other fallen heroes to show up eventually

Picturing Armand coming up with all sorts of creative aka absolutely batshit ways to prevent Daniel from being intercepted by the Talamasca while Daniel remains completely oblivious. “Lover LOOK it’s Lestat right behind you, he’s only wearing a g-string 🫢😜” and then he’s setting all of Daniel’s mail on fire and scattering the ashes in one of his clandestine e boat rides. Or trying to pass Talamasca correspondence as high school reunion invites (“you couldn’t possibly be interested in that my love? Such silly nonsense”) before tearing them off and throwing them out and changing the topic altogether. It all pays off years later at Lestat’s concert when they bump into Jesse and Daniel is like “Tala-what? lmaoo what a funny little name”. Armand has never been more proud of himself xoxo DA 🥹
Right? Dying at the idea of Armand going "Look! Lestat in a g-string!" to distract Daniel because wow, that would work! Armand would have already gotten rid of whatever it was and Daniel would still be searching behind him, going "Where? I don't see him??"
This could be a whole sitcom, tbh. A whole montage of Armand pulling Daniel in the other direction all of a sudden when he spots a Talamasca agent or changing their plans out of the blue. "I thought you had to see this band tonight!" "I realized their brand of folk music is quite droll. Let's go to Prague." Stealing his mail every evening before he wakes up him to sift through it. I imagine even in the chase years, he might get Daniel's mail at the hotel desk and bring him the royalty check while holding back the Talamasca's letters.
Maybe Daniel finally gets one of the letters in New York, and of course because it's the Talamasca, it's impossibly vague, imploring him to come meet someone at some hotel in a week's time and only vaguely mentions their interest in his novel. So Daniel asks Armand what he thinks it is? Do they want to discuss a sequel? It's not his publisher's letterhead. Is it an agent? Someone who hopes to represent him?
Armand reads it several times, expression impassive, even though he immediately knows what it is. "It's a scam," he finally says. "These vultures target young writers. They just want a share of your royalties and they'll do nothing for you." He tosses the letter aside. Maybe Daniel wonders if he should go the the meeting anyhow, just to see, but Armand will coincidentally need them to fly somewhere very far away the night before so he can't make it. Such a shame. Oh, well, Armand was probably right.
And when they try to approach him in person, ooh boy. I know Armand has some pretty clever mental tricks and could probably scare them out of the city for reasons even they don't entirely understand. Like they're on Daniel's trail and then all of a sudden, they feel uneasy about going into the city or into a certain neighborhood. They may mention that feeling or just that they're not able to establish contact, but no one can seem to get near him and he never replies to their letters or shows up for the pre-arranged meetings, so they just assume he's not interested.
Ironically, I think Daniel would want to know all about them. I don't think he'd join them--I don't think he'd give up being with Armand for anything, and certainly not that--but I think he'd find their mission fascinating, and if he hadn't run into Armand, he would have loved working with them to investigate the paranormal. Sadly, he's also one of those people predisposed to get too close and get himself in trouble, because nothing would keep him from approaching a vampire if he knew where to find them. So he wouldn't have lasted long in the job. Although, Daniel would kill for an hour or two in their archives, even now as a vampire.
I wonder if he ever asked Lestat if his friend David could get him in there for a night to sift through what they had. No doubt Lestat was like "Sure, yeah, I'll ask" and immediately forgot and it never came up again. Ironically, I think the Talamasca would salivate over the stuff in the Night Island cellar and whatever Armand has in the depths of Trinity Gate. I'm curious if, after QotD, when they realized where Daniel had been and with whom, they tried to excavate some of their old abandoned apartments and now, somewhere in the cellar of a Talasmaca motherhouse, sits a blender stained with beet juice and quick-dry cement, a Chia pet with dead seedlings sticking out of it, and an electric toothbrush with blood all over its bristles, all in some box labeled "Armand, New York, 1980s."
Thank you for the ask, DA!!! Always happy to hear from you! I will be thinking about this all day.

I totally get what you're saying in the tags about not being able to get into the later spin-offs with Yu-Gi-Oh. It was the same for me but not just with Yu-Gi-Oh, but every single other anime that falls into the same category with Yu-Gi-Oh did the same thing. Pokemon, Beyblade, and even Digimon. The spin offs with the new main protagonist was younger and the plot and themes were less mature and harder to connect with. I understand from a business point of view like appeal to the younger crowd because that's who the main target audience was for these animes. But still a part of me always thinks I was pretty young like 6 or 7 when I started watching Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. It wasn't hard for me at all to enjoy them.
You're so real for this. I don't truly remember when I started watching YuGiOh bc my memory goes as far back as maybe 7, but according to my mom and how she remembers it, it was probably closer to 4. Shows back then I guess didn't try as hard so it wasn't hard to digest?? Idk that's how I think about it. When I tell you this show practically raised me! My brain chemistry was changed forever when I watched YuGiOh. It was and still is easy to be captivated by the og3 shows, idk what they changed with the formula but I wish it it would go back 🥹🥹

Original Art - Marvel Comics Christmas TV Special Concept Art
Art by Will Meugniot
New World Entertainment (c.1990's)
From ha.com...
"The nefarious supervillain Dr. Doom kidnaps Santa and it's up to a cadre of Marvel Comics' superheroes to come to the rescue and bring Doom to justice. This was the premise of a proposed holiday television special dreamed up by the great Stan Lee (1922 - 2018) for New World Entertainment in the early '90s. Noted comic artist Will Meugniot was tasked with creating this one-of-a-kind promotional concept art as a visual to pitch the idea to studio execs. The artwork includes a collection of some of Marvel's best known characters mixed with a few of the more obscure. Captain America, Hulk and Spider-Man lead the pack, with the Fantastic Four, Cyclops, Silver Surfer, and Thor close behind. Off in the distance are Dr. Strange, Vision, Sub-Mariner, Daredevil, and Tigra. This is, to our knowledge, the first time Vision and Tigra were considered for an animated role. It's a remarkably eclectic crowd that has mobilized in Santa's defense. The character art is rendered on acetate overlays with the black line art printed on front and the colors meticulously hand-painted on back. It is presented over its original background, hand-painted in gouache on illustration board. The space above was to carry the headline "Join Your Favorite Marvel Superheroes As They Team Up to Save Christmas from Dr. Doom!" A similar image created from Mr. Meugniot's original pencil art for this piece was featured on the January 2019 cover of Alter Ego Magazine. The character artwork measures 17" x 17" over a 24" x 20" hand-painted background and the acetate is held in place with clear tape. It's a large and impressive composition. The TV special never made it to production, making this artwork a true lost Marvel treasure."

It seems that I am actually a robot!
All you literally have to do for this particular captcha, is to click a check box. Which I did. Though, apparently I somehow did it wrong. I did it in such a way that only a robot would.
If this is indeed the case, it would have been nice if whoever built and programmed me would have made me a bit smarter with a better set of marketable skills.
I guess I was just a prototype that somehow ended up out in the world.
