Sunday of Suffering (but the women made to/kept themselves on Division 3)

Round 15 of the 2024/25 Liga Portugal 2 season featured União traveling to the last placed Oliveirense.

Related to the last match, Jair and Daniel dos Anjos were benched after very criticized performances in the match against Paços de Ferreira. Dje D'avilla and Jordan van der Gaag returned to the starting eleven. Tiago Ferreira was out: at center back, Zé Vítor made his debut (IIRC he hasn't played before), while Crystopher gave his place to Alisson (questionably since i thought Alisson was poor and Crystopher was average in the last match).

Leiria took the lead by a Sarpreet Singh penalty goal on the first half after he was tackled inside the box after a cross.

After the goal, Oliveirense pressed up and the next chances by União came only shortly before halftime. On this period, Sylla, D'avilla and Singh were booked.

After the second half, the first chance went to Oliveirense, followed by charges by Jordan and Alisson, who scored the second goal of the match on the 68th minute.

Singh was taken off four minutes later, along João Resende (Herculano and Crystopher went in), and one minute later, Oliveirense scored on a blunder by Bura, which passed the ball to an opponent which scored with ease. Two minutes after entering the match, both Herculano and Crystopher received yellow cards.

Both União and Oliveirense exchanged dangerous opportunities, then manager Silas subbed center back Tiago Ferreira in place of Alisson, putting União in a five defenders formation.

Another blunder by Bura made him collide with goalkeeper Kieszek, and Oliveirense came very close to tie the match.

On the stoppage time, Oliveirense went to a last pressuring effort, while Dje D'avilla were sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

After this weekend's results, União stands at the ninth place of the Liga Portugal 2 table, with 21 points. Tondela and Penafiel share the lead and the direct promotion spots with 31 points, while the direct relegation places are occupied by Porto B (13 points) and Oliveirense (six points). Promotion playoff is currently occupied by Torreense (25 points, ahead of Chaves and Académico de Viseu by having more wins, despite Wikipedia stating the tiebreaker is head-to-head away goals scored), with the relegation playoffs spot occupied by Mafra (trailing Portimonense on head-to-head away goals scored, both teams have exactly the same number of wins, draws, losses, goals for and against).

União's top league scorers are Alisson, Crystopher and Juan Muñoz, allwith three goals. Crystopher is also the top assist giver this season, with three. The only players to have played in all 15 league matches so far are Habib Sylla, Marc Baró and Crystopher, Sylla leads all players with 1321 minutes.

For the women's side, despite the last match being at home, it didn't meant it would be an easy one: the goals against GD Ilha only appeared after half time, with Daniela Pereira scoring on the 69th minute only to Ilha to tie three minutes later, and the match was won by an own goal. With the first place on their group secured, União also guaranteed they will play on the 2025/26 Third Division, since four teams will be promoted from Division 2)

Liga Portugal 2, matchday 12: Leiria 1 Feirense 0

The Unionista Black Friday started in the most stupid way possible as the shop only announced the sales at 3PM and that they would last until 6PM, where the last stocks of last season products were to sale with 50% discount (match shirts had an additional 5€ discount for club members, and many of them had name and number print). The sales had to be extended until Saturday because nobody came to the shop on Friday, and until the end of the match there still were a fair amount of stuff up to sale. Thankfully I managed to take one goalkeeper shirt, a scarf which an apartment mate has requested me, and a scarf which I am saving to gift to Alice Oseman themself when I ever meet them (more on this later).

On the match, even with the free tickets and black Friday sale, it was the weakest attendance in two or three seasons, as just 2000 people attended the match. Feirense threatened in a few moments, but the match momentum was most in Leiria's favor, mainly on individual attempts by Alisson, and later by Jair, both lacking on the finishing touch and holding the ball for too long. Both teams had their best chances during the last forty minutes of the match, which had ten minutes added due to a referee substitution. The winning goal was scored by Sarpreet Singh (first of the season)

With this victory, União once again stands a bit clearer from the relegation spots, four points ahead of the 16th place.

psa: excuse my face i never take selfies and my entire body was sweating and shaking and 💀

okay. i got 5 sigs in the hotel reception, but niko and thiago weren’t there because they went straight to the press con in nrg. come game day, i was sitting 5 rows behind the bayern bench. for 2 hours i got prime view of what actually happens in the dugout that cameras don’t always show and it was w i l d. niko was screaming and whistling and complaining to hansi lmao. (also, just to say, he was also INSANELY FIT AND GOOD-LOOKING. and when he gets angry....👀💦🥵💀) anyways, we won and everyone looked much better together than in the arsenal game. i had this huge ass sign asking for niko’s bottle LMAO but he didn’t see it 🔪🔪🔪 we won and it was great but i was feeling kinda let down since i know i didn’t get everyone. so i figured YOLO i’ll just go and camp out at the hotel in the morning and hope for the best 🤷🏻‍♀️ nothing else to lose and everything to gain. AND BOY OH BOY DID I MAKE THE BEST DECISION OF MY ENTIRE LIFE (tbc in part 2/2...)
