[dove's notes: this was so, so good characterization. The writing was incredible, as were the messy learning-how-to-be-together-again team dynamics. Sakura and all her teammates are Feeling Many Things and working them out. And it starts with a Mary Oliver poem! I love Mary Oliver.]

And Hanabi is happy to offer advice and consolation, as Sakura tries to talk her best friends into letting Sarada be a civilian.

A feminist deconstruction of Naruto, where everyone is taken seriously and treated with the same love Sakura offers to all her friends. No character-bashing, just contemplating what could have happened if, when Sasuke left Sakura and their baby the second time, Sakura decided to file for divorce rather than wait for him to come back. Of course they still love each other. Of course it's not simple.

[dove's notes: This fic is so underrated, and I highly recommend it. It's exactly what the summary/tags say. Beautifully written, and an honest look at the flaws these characters bring with them into adulthood. Not really for HinaNaru or SasuSaku fans, as the relationships are portrayed in a dysfunctional manner (Which is pretty Boruto canon tbh) I really like that Sakura was able to find happiness with Hanabi, and Sakura's evolving and loving relationship with her daughter. The feminist deconstruction and themes were amazingly well done.]

[dove's notes: If you have ever looked for a long naruto fic with a main sapphic pairing, you have probably found this fic. I must include it in this list (despite its popularity) because it is my Favorite. Mito and Sakura have so much chemistry, and the time travel aspect is a really fun and well-executed trope here.]

In which Obito does not get found and brainwashed by some really old also-brainwashed dead guy, but gets grabbed by other Iwa shinobi and spends a year in a Prisoner of War camp until after the war. Then limps her sorry self home to Konoha, about 3 months after the Nine-tails attack.

Kakashi deals with it about as well as can be expected…

The Uchiha however, while still being their usual stoic, antisocial, really-messed-up selves; do manage to somehow get their kid back into one piece mentally and physically.

At which point Obito takes a long hard look at Konoha, it’s dubious goings on with sanctimonious Sarutobi and backstabbing Danzo and decides to not put up with this shit.

[dove's notes: I haven't finished this series yet as it is very long, but I have had a great time reading fem!Obito's POV. She's well-written, as is the rest of the cast, with comple emotions and motivations as the storyline develops. She's very Obito. As dark as ninja verse is, these characters manage to find what happiness they can and support each other.]

A little about my au. This is an au in which everything is fine. Kawaki and the Karma organization do not exist, no one invaded the planet and all the characters live their quiet lives

Also in my AU I swapped characters in teams and the teams themselves as a whole. The main reason I did this is that the characters do not complement each other's weaknesses and do not progress as a team. Throughout the anime, the team of Sarada, Mitsuki and Boruto has not changed in fact. Yes, Boruto and Sarada have become stronger as individual characters, but... they can easily exist outside this team and nothing will change at all. The same Mitsuki has not changed at all, he still remains the strongest child with the strongest abilities ╮(╯_╰)╭

Same goes for the new InoShikaCho. They said at the very beginning of the anime that they didn't want to work together like their parents, but in the end they were all made together. I have a feeling they were forced...

It seems to me that when Naruto made up the teams (in the anime they showed that he was the one doing it), he didn't think about what was best for the children, he was just nostalgic. Sarada and Boruto didn't want to be on the same team, just like InoShikaCho, but Naruto (and Ikemoto) didn't care. Moreover, he made Konohamaru the sensei of team number 7, instead of InoShikaCho's team. Which actually violates clan traditions, their senseis have always been people from the Sarutobi clan, but Naruto didn't care either. He just wanted his first student/brother to be his son's sensei.

So, I changed it and in the next posts I will tell you why I changed it this way.

I decided to dig up my Naruto AU again! I called it Family AU on my old account. I also have a few fics in the universe I called it Odd Family.

I want to change things around a little. The main plot in the AU were different ships and some new kids. Also Obito and Neji surviving the war somehow.

The new ships are:

Obito and Kakashi

Naruto and Neji

Sasuke and Suigetsu

I’m debating if Sakura should be with Hinata or not. On one hand it would be cute on the other I like the idea of them being strong independent single women. But at the same time it could be very cute. Maybe they could get together later.

Then since I got rid of two canon ships, Sarada, Boruto and Himawari don’t exist anymore. Instead we have some new kids!

Uzumaki Kento and Kiku

Uchiha/Hozuki Mako

Sayuki (later Haruno Sayuki)

Again, I could see myself adding one more kid, maybe someone Hinata takes under her wing, like Sakura has Sayuki.

There’s two more changes regarding the canon kids. Mitsuki and Kawaki. Mitsuki kind of gets adopted by Sasuke and Suigetsu. It was an accident but it happened anyway. Kawaki doesn’t go down the path he did in canon. He still gets taken in by Naruto (and with that Neji) but he just kinda grows into being part of the family and having two younger siblings. And I’m getting rid of the whole chaos afterwards. I might bring in Eida and her brother but if I do I’ll change her powers a bit.

Now a little lore for and fun facts for everything!

Kento and Kiku are twins, Kento is slightly older than Kiku. Naruto is trans and have birth to them.

Kawaki likes to cook with Neji. Growing up the way he did, being able to cook something to eat means a lot to him.

Neji has a few lasting issues because of the war. It wasn’t all that bad when they were younger. It got worse with age. He had some bad days where he is in a lot of pain. By the time Kiku and Kento start going to the academy, he had to be taken off active duty. He handles diplomatic issues nowadays.

Neji doesn’t say at least out loud that he loves his kids (and his husband) a lot. He shows it more often than not. He always makes them bentos and gets them little gifts and showers them in affection. When he does say it it’s still very special. Even if all of them know how much he love them.

Kiku sometimes reminds Naruto of Kushina while Kento reminds Neji of Hizashi at times. And much to their surprise Naruto sometimes sees Minato in Kawaki.

Growing up Kento and Kiku were really close to Inojin, still are. Obito sometimes babysat the three of them. Inos mom did too.

With Kento taking Borutos place, he is Mitsukis sun and the reason be comes to Konoha.

Mako is a testtube baby. Sasuke and Suigetsu asked Orochimaru for a favor.

Mako is a few years younger than the rest of the kids.

He travels with his dads around the world.

Instead of the arc with Sarada, there’s one with Mitsuki.

Sasuke, Suigetsu and Mako invested something, run into Mitsuki and some stuff happens and they have a new son/brother. Mako loves his new big brother.

With Mitsuki attending the academy, the three stay more often in Konoha. When they do have to leave, Mako likes to stay with Mitsuki. The other adults look after them and invite for dinner a lot.

As Mako and Mitsuki grow closer, Suigetsu and Sasuke see themselves and their older brothers in them. It’s bittersweet.

Now Sayuki, she has a strained relationship with her biological parents.

She looks up to Sakura and dream to be trained by her.

She’s the same age as Iwabee and similar to him also repeated a bit.

She’s put on team 7 alongside Kento and Mitsuki under Moegi.

With that, Team 10 gets to have Konohamaru as their Sensei, keeping the Ino-Shika-Cho and Sarutobi thing going.

And I’m sorry to say, (not really) but Denki will be pulled from team 5 and Kiku will be in his place.

When Sayuki eventually does starts getting trained by Sakura, the two grow closer.

Sakura finds out about her situation at home and works towards adopting her. She succeeds and presents Jun the adoption papers and her name is now Haruno Sayuki.

Since Sayuki dyes her hair pink and she has dark green eyes already, she can pass as Sakuras biological child.

Obito is a glorified housewife. He got his chakra sealed and only in chase of emergency can use it. Well the seal can only then be broken.

Since Neji is alive at the time of the last, he’ll join the team to save Hanabi and the story would change to be a story about the three Hyuga and their relationship.

Hanabi is a kid and her siblings are growing up and Neji is moving out, she’s worried about losing them.

Hinata got over her feelings for Naruto but trying to find herself. She pulls away from her siblings.

Neji is handling his new circumstances and new relationship with Naruto and unintentionally pulling away from his sisters.

In the end they know things will change but they’ll always love each other.

The big wedding at the end of the show is Kakashis and Obitos. Obito takes Kakashis last name. He’s Hatake Obito now.

I want to redo the references of the kids sometime in the future.

Mes interrogations :

Qui est-ce ? Quel est ce personnage féminin ? Est-ce Sarada ? L'héritière des Uchiha ? Vraiment ? Dois-je regarder son emblème pour savoir à quelle famille elle appartient ? Où est elle donc passée la Sarada pleine de prouesse et de promesses de Kishimoto sensei ? Toutes enfants ressemblent à leurs parents, plus ici, alors, qui est-ce encore un fois ? Qui est -ce cette Sarada qui ne ressemble plus à sa maman ni à son papa ni même à aucunes des femmes Uchiha [Mikoto, Izumi, Naori] ? Je ne la reconnaît plus, elle ne ressemble plus du tout à une Kunoichi mais à un spectre. On dirait qu'elle est une pauvre enfant perturbée depuis que le père qu'elle estime, Nanadaime Hokage n'est plus là. Elle est devenue méconnaissable et coupée de ses liens familiaux [culturel surtout]... misère...

Mon malaise :

D'abord dans l’attitude de Sarada ; elle s’affiche libertine et est vêtue de manière débrayée et devenue carrément irrespectueuse envers la nouvelle autorité de Konoha ou surtout comme une adolescente en perdition [souvent en conflit avec papa] se trimbalent avec des genoux cagneux percher sur des hauts talons qu'Ikemoto lui fait porter comme une prostituée depuis ses 11- 12ans et qui ne sont portées que par des femmes adultes comme Tsunade et Sakura par Kishimoto-Sensei. Son attitude donne plus l’impression qu'elle est une ados qui sort de boite de nuit, plutôt qu'une Kunoichi qui sort de terrain d’entraînement. Ce sont des attitudes que l'on ne retrouves nullement dans l'adolescence et adulte de sa mère Sakura Uchiha.

L'apparence et l'habillage :

Mal fagotée et d'apparence gothique, elle n'est en rien élégante, ni même mignonne, cela ne ressemblent en rien à ses parents ni du Clan Uchiha pour ses membres connus. On dirait plutôt quelle débarque d'un autre manga et cela fait contre nature. Elle est plutôt un composite de plusieurs personnages qui sont sans liens avec elle [excepté Karin] !

La Tsuchikage Kurotsuchi pour la coiffure garçonne et les boucles d'oreilles.

Karin Uzumaki pour les lunettes depuis Gaiden.

La Mizukage Meï Terumî pour les épaules entièrement dénudées.

Eida pour le micro-short.

Avec tous ses éléments, on va encore se demander « qui est sa mère ? ».

Autre éléments troublant : Pourquoi lui faire mettre une veste qui évoque l'Akatsuki à Sarada ? C'est de très mauvais goût que de faire cette référence au passé sombre de son père et son oncle en vu de l'assombrir ! Pauvre Sarada, qui en plus d'être assombrie, devient laide avec cette nouvelle coiffure qui la dévisage et avec ses lunettes qui ne l’embellisse pas. Elle n'est plus féminine, mais tout bonnement féministe [y a pas de ça à Konoha] et cela ne ressemblent, une nouvelle fois, en rien à la coiffures de sa mère, de son père. Des inutiles hauts talons qui ne permettent pas le dynamiste des courses au combat. Une veste tombante et surdimensionnée au couleurs de l'Akatsuki, [manquent plus que les nuages rouges] qui ne convient pas au combat, cela ne fait qu'entraver les mouvements des bras en attaque. Ou alors dans un autre cas, en général, quand une jeune femme porte une veste surdimensionnée, c'est que cette veste est celle de son petit ami [QUI ?] mais le problème reste le même. Visiblement Ikemoto ne conçoit pas la nécessité de costume de Kunoichi pour Sarada, il ne la considère pas. Il ne conçoit de vêtements féminins que pour l'appât !

Commentaire :

Il aurait été tellement judicieux, subtile et intelligent [comme la pichenette d'Itachi ❤], qu'Ikemoto donne quelque référence culturel familial à Sarada en la laissant ressembler à Mikoto Uchiha, plutôt qu'à je-ne-sais-qui. Ainsi au travers de sa petite-fille en mission partie combattre, on aurait pu s'imaginer dans le dynamisme des actions, comment aurait pu être les attitudes et les compétences de Kunoichi de Mikoto dans sa carrière, vu que l'on n'a aucune connaissance sur le sujet. Cela aurait été un coup de génie, un coup de maître de la part d'Ikemoto vu que Kishimoto-sensei n'a jamais écrie dessus. Une connexion Sarada – Mikoto aurait été magnifique ❤ ! Une Sarada qui ne ressemble plus à une Uchiha est-ce encore l'héritière des Uchiha ? Ou dans un autre genre, un Boruto qui au lieu d'être devenu badass et Shinobesque, serait vêtu comme un proxénète et devenu un pervers-narcissique à lèvres vertes, ça serait déconcertant pour tous [sauf ceux aux goûts iconoclastes].

Un Boruto qui ne ressemblerait plus à un Uzumaki est-ce encore le fils du Nanadaime Hokage et du petit-fils Yondaime Hokage ?

Je n'ai trouver nul part parmi les fan-arts officiels et non-officiels (Tumblr, Pinterest, DeviantArt) une Sarada aussi terne, mal fagotée et horrible !

Au contraire, j'en trouves beaucoup avec des costumes Kunoichi dans un style art Kishimoto avec cheveux longs, ressemblent à sa grand-mère Mikoto, sans lunette, badass et mignonne, non sexualisée ou peu. Sarada sous Kishimoto-sensei : Était d'élite et respectée, elle avait une grande quantité de chakra et savait naturellement l'affiner, elle avait éveillées ses Sharingan et savait instinctivement les utiliser en bons escients, le sens de l'analyse accrue, elle utilisa le Taijutsu de sa mère « l'Ôkashô ». Elle rayonnait et son rêve était grand celui de devenir Hokage Légitime. De ce fait, elle aurait parachevé le rêve de son père en rétablissant l'honneur des Uchiha et mettant fin une bonne fois pour toutes au cycle de la haine de son clan. Mais hélas, son histoire c'est arrêter à Gaiden. Sous Boruto : Naruto next generations d'Ikemoto tout cela n'est plus qu'une fumisterie... Ikemoto ne conçoit pas Sarada pour être Hokage Légitime, trop peu d'efforts lui son consacrés pour qu'elle obtiennes des hauts-faits, une seul fois en tant qu'accroche, elle à marquée un point pour l'obtention c'était contre Boro-la-purge ! N'étant pas mâle et risquant de concurrencer le héros Boruto, la voilà systématiquement réduite à être une Loli destinée uniquement à l'appât, affichant ses cuisses de grenouilles, à un intérêt amoureux inutile et une demoiselle en détresse toujours...

Bref donner Sarada Uchiha à Ikemoto, c'est jeter des perles aux pourceaux. Vraiment navrant !

Je terminerais par cette illustration entre la Sarada de Kishimoto et celle d'Ikemoto.

Note d’espoirs :

On peut encore espérer, quelques arroches pour rehausser son niveau :

Qu'elle obtienne un Kama de Kaguya Ôtsutsuki. Puisque Naruto & Sasuke ont perdu leurs pouvoirs, cela pourrait la libérer temporairement du Fûinjutsu Rikudô — Chibaku Tensei pour quelle puisse choisir Sarada comme réceptacle.

Qu'elle devienne le Jinchûriki de Kokuô [Gobi]. Cela lui rehausserait premièrement son niveau de chakra qui famélique et l’aiderais considérablement à se servir de ses Sharingan. Secondement à décupler sa force physique. Cela avait été utile pour Naruto contre Kaguya Ôtsutsuki.

Qu'elle devienne au dépend de son identité, une Nin-Cyborg par les soins d'Amado. Cela lui donnerais au minimum le niveau d'une Delta ou de Jigen au mieux + des pouvoirs sans chakra et magiques et permanent comme Eida & Daemon.

Sarada grimaça. Elle avait l’impression que toutes les personnes présentes au Thunder Burger s’étaient retournés sur eux. Elle s’était attendue à ce genre de réaction.

« Je n’ai pas eu le choix, dit-elle. Ino nous a vu et en a parlé à ma mère. »

Cela faisait quatre mois que Sarada et Boruto étaient en couple. Après des années d’amitié, cette nouvelle relation était à la fois merveilleuse et terrifiante. Ils s’étaient posés beaucoup de questions au début. Où allait cette relation ? Et s’ils se séparaient, est-ce qu’ils resteraient toujours amis ? Ils avaient décidé de garder cette relation secrète. Ils ne voulaient pas que tout le monde se mêle de leur histoire ou fasse des commentaires. Et même si Boruto n’en avait jamais parlé à Sarada, il avait peur de la réaction de Sasuke. Il était son mentor, il l’admirait et le respectait, mais il pouvait être très effrayant. Surtout en ce qui concernait Sarada. Elle était sa fille unique et il était prêt à tout pour la protéger. Même si cela voulait dire se débarrasser de son petit-ami. Sarada vit le trouble qui l’habitait. Elle posa délicatement sa main sur la sienne.

« On savait que ça allait arriver un jour où l’autre. Ne t’inquiète pas, tout va bien se passer. »

Boruto acquiesça, pas vraiment convaincu.

Boruto se rendit au terrain d’entraînement où Sasuke l’attendait. Il déglutit difficilement, redoutant ce qui allait se passer. Il regarda son sensei attentivement, mais il lui était impossible de savoir à quoi il pensait.

« Te voila enfin, dit Sasuke. Commençons. »

Boruto pensa qu’il était entrain de vivre sa dernière heure.

L’entraînement était aussi intense que d’habitude. Pendant tout ce temps, Sasuke n’avait pas évoqué une seule fois Sarada. À la fin de l’entraînement, Boruto était exténué. Il essayait de reprendre sa respiration lorsque Sasuke dit :

« Je suis au courant pour toi et Sarada. »

Boruto s’immobilisa. C’était le moment. Il ferma les yeux, espérant que Sasuke fasse vite pour le tuer.

« Même si je dois avouer qu’au début cette idée ne me plaisait pas, je sais que tu prendra soin de Sarada et que tu l’as rendra heureuse. Je ne pouvais pas espérer mieux pour ma fille. »

Boruto écarquilla les yeux. Jamais il n’avait entendu Sasuke parler ainsi. Ses mots le touchèrent. Il aimait Sarada depuis toujours et il ferait tout pour la rendre heureuse.

« Mais si j’apprends que tu l’as fait souffrir, je te tue. Je me suis bien fait comprendre ? »

Le jeune Uzumaki acquiesça. Il ne baissa pas le regard, voulant montrer à quel point Sarada comptait pour lui et qu’il préférait mourir plutôt que de la faire souffrir. Sasuke s’en alla. Boruto sentit ses jambes le lâcher et il tomba par terre. Toute la tension qu’il ressentait venait de disparaître et il se trouvait incapable de se lever.

Au bout d’un moment, il sentit la force dans ses jambes revenir. Il se dirigea vers le parc où Sarada l’attendait. Dès qu’il la vit, il se précipita vers elle et la prit dans ses bras. D’habitude, ils faisaient attention à ne pas montrer de gestes d’affection en publique, mais cette fois il s’en moquait. Il avait besoin de la serrer dans ses bras.

« Comment ça c’est passé ? Demanda-t-elle.

-Étonnamment, mieux que je ne l’aurais cru. »

Boruto s’écarta légèrement et sourit malicieusement.

« Tu sais ce que ça veut dire ? Tu vas devoir parler à mon père. »

Sarada blêmit. Comment pouvait-elle parler au Hokage, qui était son modèle, de sa relation avec son fils ?

« Quoi… Mais…

-J’ai affronté ton père, maintenant c’est à toi d’aller parler avec le mien. Au moins, tu sais qu’il t’adore et qu’il t’accueillera les bras ouverts. »

Boruto dut se retenir de rire devant l’expression terrifié de Sarada. Il l’embrassa, lui disant que peu importe ce qu’il se passait, ils l’affronteraient ensemble.

1) sasuke actually has blue eyes and uses contacts during shoots.

Connections with each-other

1) boruto is actually sasuke's son. The make up crew tries their best to make sure boruto looks more like naruto instead of sasuke. Boruto actually looks strikingly like his father only with blonde hair. He was given the role because during the prologue of the naruto series and beginning of the sequal. He was the only blond haired child actor they could fit in and also they liked his name to much.

This is the soul reason why they wrote sasuke as boruto's sensei. And why their dialogue's comes out more as fatherly and sonly.

Fun fact boruto was named after naruto's the anime. As the show made a huge impact on sasuke's life. His son getting the main role in the sequel was a sweet treat.

2) himawari is hinata's neice. Considering she has blue eyes, hinata recomented her to the director. After an audition she was casted as her daughter.

3) inojin and houki are actually Rin's sons. Inojin looked like ino. Thus was named after her. Ino and rin are best friends irl. During auditions for the sequel, both the brothers tried to get role and both got it.

4) shikadai is shikamaru's actual son.

5) code is karin's cousin brother.

6) sarada is actually itachi's daughter.

7) sakura and ino are married irl.

8) rock Lee and Metal Lee are brothers actually. Metal is the oldest in the boruto cast. He is just really short.

9) neji and tenten are also married irl. Rented couldn't have children. So the first adopted a boy.

10) mitsuki is their adopted boy.

Personalities of the new team 7

1) boruto is pretty sweet and shy. He does what he is being told. Gets really red if someone teases him. After shoot it done, mostly is found with his father or kawaki.

2) kawaki is the opposite of his character. He jokes around a lot. Most of the times breaking character on set and making others laugh. He flirts with boruto alot. Just to make him red. Then immediately gets glared by sasuke because of that.

3) sarada is really calm and collected. After shoots she is mostly found hanging with the staff. Or with her father who is behind the scenes talking with his friends.

4) mitsuki is the closest to his character, always smiling. Only talks if you start talking but he is genuinely nice to talk to.

Summary: While making his way through the village, Houki can’t help but notice something odd passing him by. Especially when he realizes that his Hero, Lord Sixth, is involved.

Morning training had been a little harder than usual, with Sai-sensei running multiple scenarios that Houki and his teammates had to solve. Sometimes the problem could be solved by taking the enemy down and capturing them, but other times they would have to leave the target alone. Coming up with a way to gather information without being caught and getting it back to their Sensei.

So far, they still needed a lot of work on the information-gathering missions.

“I’m certain there’s something we can do.” Houki whispered under his breath, barely paying attention as he made his way through the village. With just a little planning, he was certain that he could figure out an effective plan. One that would make Sai-sensei proud, and may even catch the attention of Lord sixth.

Stopping in his tracks, he thought back to the last exercise his team had done. All the ways that they had messed up, and how they could improve when he felt something bump against his foot.

Turning his attention to his side, he frowned when he saw a dog walking past him. Not just one dog though, besides it was a whole parade of animals. Lions, tigers, cats, and even a few snakes.

“What…” searching for whatever it was they were headed towards, Houki followed the line of animals to the front, his eyes widening when he saw what, or more appropriately, who, was leading all of these animals through the village.

Lord sixth.

“He has been walking like this for an hour,” hearing a familiar voice behind him, Houki turned to find Boruto standing directly behind him. A serious look on his face in place of the usual goofy smile Houki was far more used to seeing. “Sarada and I have been following him everywhere but we can’t figure it out.”

“I told you,” Sarada came up behind Boruto, arms crossed over her chest and eyes focused on the parade of animals. “They’re probably following him because he has some sort of food on him.”

That didn’t make any sense.

“There-there’s squirrels and chipmunks in there,” Houki spoke up, frowning when Sarada looked his way. “They don’t like the same food as Lions and tigers.”

“He has a pack on his back. I wouldn’t put it past him to put a bunch of food in it just to make a show of himself,” Sarada argued. “He’s always doing embarrassing stuff.”

There were so many questions running through Houki’s mind at that moment, but he had to focus. There had to be a logical reason for why Lord Sixth had a parade of animals following him through the streets of Konoha.

“Hey!” Hearing a familiar voice, Houki turned to see Metal running towards them. “What’s going on? Why is everyone standing around here?”

“Can’t you tell?” Sarada jabbed a finger towards Lord Sixth and the parade of animal’s behind him. “We’re having an argument about why the old man has all of those animals following him around. I think he has food in his pack.”

“It’s not food,” Boruto insisted. “I bet he got sprayed by some experiment that makes him smell good to animals.”

Houki cringed at that idea. It didn’t sound pleasant at all.

“Oh, is that all?” All three of them gave metal a confused look. “This is normal. He looks like he’s thinking about something and he probably hasn’t noticed all of the animals following him.

Normal?

“Normal!?” The three of them screamed at the same time.

“How is this normal?” Sarada asked. “I’ve never seen him come to the house to visit mom with a parade of animals behind him.”

“Same when he comes to my place,” Boruto insisted. “The only dogs I ever see with him are his dumb hounds.”

Houki narrowed his eyes towards Boruto. “They’re not dumb,” he insisted. “They’re bloodhounds that could rip an enemy apart with ease.”

“Alright, jeez,” Holding his hands out in front of him, Boruto sighed. “Sorry. I forgot you were the old man’s number one fanboy for a second.”

“How could you possibly forget that?” Sarada asked. “He always dresses up like him.”

Houki wasn’t sure when this had become a conversation about his status as ‘number in fanboy for lord sixth’, but he was quite done with it already.

“So,” he turned away from the other two with a little huff of annoyance. “You said this was normal?”

“Ya,” Metal chuckled lightly. “He’s always waking up from his naps surrounded by animals. Usually, when he’s out in the village he tells them to leave him alone, or at least not create such a…” glancing towards the animal parade he sighed. “Well, such a show.”

“He does look like he’s thinking about something,” Sarada noted, “and when he thinks sometimes it feels like he’s not paying attention to anything going on around him.”

“There’s probably some big problem going on in the village that needs his attention,” Houki declared, his eyes shining as he thought about all of the things that Lord Seventh could be struggling with. “I bet he’s thinking really hard about how to help the village grow even more.”

“That’s not his job though,” Boruto sighed. “My old man…”

Glaring at Boruto, Houki huffed. “Do you really think your old man would be able to come up with an answer to a tough problem without help?”

“Well, no. That’s why he has Uncle Shikamaru to help him.”

“I bet they still asked Lord sixth for advice,” He couldn’t imagine Lord Sixth not having a say in it. He was the reason Konoha had grown so much since the fourth great shinobi war. His advice was invaluable.

There was no doubt in Houki’s mind that whatever the ex-Hokage was thinking of, it was a huge issue. It was the only explanation for why he hadn’t noticed the parade of animals following him around the village.

Drumming his fingers against his chin, Kakashi hummed as he went through his options. There weren’t a lot of choices, so he couldn’t understand why he was having so many difficulties.

“Come on, Kakashi,” he whispered to himself. “Hot Springs or a fancy dinner out. Or maybe both? Could we do both?”

Planning an anniversary surprise was no easy task, and he’d yell at anyone who tried to tell him that it was. At this rate, he’d be lucky if he figured out what to get Gai for a present.

“Shit,” he stopped in his tracks suddenly, grunting when something slammed into his back. “Oh, I’m sorry.”

Turning to face whoever it was he had inconvenienced, Kakashi cringed when he saw a long line of animals there behind him. Lions, tigers, squirrels, dogs, cats. He’s pretty sure he even spotted a few monkeys somewhere in the crowd.

“Great...and how long have you been following me this time?” He placed his hands on his hips and narrowed his eyes. “I bet I look like a spectacle because of all of you.” He’d have to go into hiding for a week just to let the gossip simmer down a bit, which was going to put a damper on all of his hard work planning that surprise for Gai.

It couldn’t be helped though. Just looking around the area he could see people staring at him, including four nosey genin’s off in the distance smiling and waving at him as soon as they noticed him looking their way.

“Sarada!” A tall man with blond hair waved at her from afar. 

She stopped immediately and bowed. “Hokage-sama.” 

“So formal!” Naruto laughed. He rubbed his nose, that jolly grin appearing permanent on his face. “I spoke to Kawaki last night, and he showed me his progress with his Fireball jutsu. I have to say, it’s coming along pretty well, and I’m sure I have you to thank for teaching him.” 

“Oh!” She snapped up and laughed nervously. “It’s really all Kawaki. He works so hard, and I just taught him the hand seals. He picked it up in a snap.” 

“Humble too, huh? Are you sure you’re Sasuke’s daughter?” Sarada blushed, which only made Naruto laugh again. “I’m joking, shit. He will kill me if he hears that.” 

Sarada laughed for real. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.” 

“And so is Kawaki.” Naruto smiled softly at her. “I mean it, Sarada. Thank you.” 

Her heart soared with his praise and sincerity. “It’s my pleasure.” She bowed again, and with another wave, Naruto was off.

“I’m home,” Sarada called out as she removed her shoes by the door. 

“Darling, welcome home!” Sakura peeked out from the kitchen door, wearing a pink apron. “You’re back so soon.” 

“I could say the same for you.” It was rare for her mama to be home so early, but Sarada wasn’t going to complain about it. The smells coming from the kitchen were comforting, too. It made her stomach rumble. “Are you cooking miso soup?” 

“Yes, and some of your other favorites.” Sakura went back to the pot to stir it up. “I was able to finish up my medical journals since Mitsuki helped me.” 

“Oh?” Sarada took a seat at the dining table and began cutting up some vegetables. “Is he behaving himself?” 

“Very much so. He’s better than some of my other interns.” Sakura laughed lightly. “Fast learner and he speaks so fondly about you.” 

“What?” Sarada’s heart raced, wondering what kind of stories Mitsuki had told her mother. “What—What does he say?” 

“Oh you know, the usual things a student says about their sensei. Like how protective you are, and attentive to his needs.” 

She released the breath she didn’t know she was holding. Good. Nothing negative. “Oh… well… Mitsuki’s really blunt and gets into trouble because of it. I just—I have to make sure he isn’t misunderstood.” 

“I know, darling.” Sakura turned around and winked at her. “Like that time you nearly slit that guy’s throat because he took Mitsuki by the scruff of his collar, right?” 

“He can’t expect to touch my student and get away with it!” Sarada exclaimed, feeling her blood rush just remembering it. “And over a stupid trading card!” 

“Darling, the guy was your age.” 

“That doesn’t matter! Mitsuki’s thirteen but he knows better!” 

“Because you taught him better.” Sakura smiled fondly at her. “I’m so proud of you, Sarada.” 

Her cheeks blushed. “Thank you.”

“Dealing with an all-boys team is so hard,” Sarada sighed and rested her cheek on her palm. “You’re so lucky you have girls, Hanabi-senpai.” 

Hanabi giggled. Despite being nearly a decade her senior, the heiress would never dream of discounting Sarada’s hard work. “Oh? And here I thought you had it easy, with your boys being all over you and whatnot.” 

“What?!” Sarada gasped. “They’re such a handful, I don’t know what you mean.” 

“That isn’t what Boruto says,” Hanabi smirked, then continued to tease her, “He’s always going on and on about how he works hard so he can be your right-hand man and protect you.” 

Sarada shook her head, yet she had a fond smile on her face. “Boruto found out I want to be Hokage, and… well, he certainly is something.” 

“Something? Is that all you have to say? You’re going to break his heart!” Hanabi lifted her hand to cover her mouth as she laughed. 

“Break his—what?” Sarada paled. “What has he been saying to you?” 

“Oh nothing,” Hanabi replied coyly, just that you were going to be his wife, and he was determined to protect you and love you until his dying breath.” The heiress laughed again at Sarada’s horrified expression. 

“He’s just a kid!” 

“Oh shush, you’re like what? Three years older than him? You may eat your words once he has his growth spurt, you know.” 

“Oh my god, I can’t believe you’re setting me up with your nephew—my own student!” Sarada hid her face behind her hands, absolutely mortified. 

Hanabi wagged a finger at her. “My, my, Sarada-sensei, don’t rule him out just because he looks the way he does now. He’s growing and certainly fond of you. Just you wait. You’ll eat your words.”

Sandpaper Love!

Okay so super late but you know how it is.

Sandpaper Love AU is a massive modern soap opera au wherein Naruto and Sasuke have been friends since high school (both students at Iruka's dojo) and have been through a lot of shit together. Sakura has always been there too, but as in canon, she's never quite as close to them as they are to each other. So college comes around and they stick together and that where Hinata appears. She thinks Naruto is amazing and bright and everything and she gathers the courage to ask him out while they're all four at Ichiraku's. Naruto, who has no idea what love actually is (bad foster homes growing up) is just like "yeah sure sounds great" and Sasuke is quietly trying to hide the fact that his world is collapsing. Sakura sees her Hinata being courageous and asks Sasuke out too, and Naruto is thrilled because now it can be a double date.

Things spiral from there, involving Sasuke dating Sakura, Naruto talking to him about finally having sex with Hinata, and Sasuke freaking out and ending up having sex with Sakura in a very fucked up grasp for normality. Eventually, through stupidity and bad sex education on the Uchiha family's part, Sakura gets pregnant, and Sasuke gets pressured into marrying her. Naruto thinks marriage is a great idea and asks Hinata, and Naruto steamrolls them all into a double wedding and honeymoon. So. Yeah. Soap opera to the extreme. XD

A few months later, Naruto gets in a bad car accident, and Sasuke goes to the hospital while he's in surgery. Meanwhile Sakura goes into early labor, and can't get ahold of Sasuke (no phones in hospital) and calls Hinata. So Hinata is there for Sarada's birth, and Sasuke is at Naruto's bedside waiting for him to wake up.

Much later, Naruto and Hinata have their two kids in an attempt on Hinata's to make Naruto really love her, and stop focusing on Sasuke. Naruto loves his kids, but it doesn't pull him closer to Hinata or farther from Sasuke. Sasuke and Sakura are fighting and not sleeping in the same bed, but they both love Sarada and do their best to take care of her.

When Sarada is about three, Sakura finally files for divorce. This prompts Naruto to finally realize that he might not actually understand love at all, and he ends up talking to Hinata and eventually Sasuke about it. Sakura won't talk to him, because she says it's too painful atm.

Eventually Hinata decides to divorce Naruto as well, to let him go, because she's realized that she's never going to be able to make him love her. Not the way she wants him to, at least.

The divorces are as amicable as they can be. The kids are well taken care of. They all end up seeing therapists, one of whom is Ino, and both Sakura and Sasuke end up clicking with her.

End goal would be:

Sakura becoming an mma fighter as she works her way through medical school, training with Lee, and having a longstanding "fuck me yourself, coward" thing with fellow medical student Neji that works for them both.

Hinata going back to school to join the orchestra as a cellist, ignoring her family's urging for her to take over their medical practice and fully supporting Neji in his push to become a doctor on his own, outside the family practice. She meets Ino after a performance, and Ino is obviously into her, but Hinata decides she wants to spend some time on her own figuring out what makes her happy, before getting into any relationships.

Sasuke finally telling Naruto that he's been in love with him since high school, and then being willing to let Naruto go to figure out what he wants in life.

And Naruto finally going to a therapist and figuring out what the different types of love are, and realizing that Sasuke is the person he actually wants to be married to. So, after a year or so, he proposes.

Naruto ends up taking over his sensei's dojo, and Sasuke joins him as a co-owner.

Naruto and Sasuke's house is the main home for the kids, but everyone has equal visitation, and the kids end up alright.

So there you have it! Bad choices all around, lots of angst and confusion and pain, and a journey through doomed love to find happiness on the other side.

I don't think I could write it realistically enough to do the au justice, so it'll probably always just be an idea, but yeah. That is Sandpaper Love.
