I wonder if you have any recs for human!au fics where Crowley and Azi meet either online, as penpals or some other way that's anonymous, but maybe they don't know each other in real life or they don't know the other is their online friend/penpal. I really like the build-up towards meeting each other and things like that! I hope it's not too confusing. Any suggestions with those themes would be wonderful ❤️

2024 Writing Roundup

I think I deleted my round up on the AO3-looking template, so, at the nnntthhhh hour, using it in text form, tagged by @hyperions-light . Thank you very much! I'm taking this from AO3. I've had a few meta on tumblr, but not many. I've got five fics outstanding for 2024, that I guess we'll see in 2025. I also didn't do any secret santas this year (I told myself I was too busy). It was a bit strange! Anyway--

additional words written: not sure what this means. I didn't have too many meta, so I'd say about 500? Ooh, wait, unpublished zine pieces: about 8000.

highest kudos: It's been a quiet year (no Bioluminescent Hearts this year!) so Heart Pirates' Week at 47 kudos. 72 on anon, and cumulatively, Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On) drew in 336 kudos. valuta , which was published in late December 2023, 92 kudos.

highest hit one-shot: Decomposers, my fic for the LawZo zine, has 586 hits. Fic on anon, 5,500 hits (but it's not a one-shot!).

new things I tried: I did the Davy Back Fight <- fic here, written with 3 others, and the remix project <- fic here. I was happy to try both!

fic I spent the most time on: Probably Welding, which was written for the KidLaw zine, just because the timeline/schedule on preparation for that zine stretched across almost two years. Also, it had a higher word count, and I really wanted to do it right (as with most pieces!).

fic I spent the least time on: Probably Sunk Cost Fallacy, which is a Heart Pirates fic written for the Davy Back Fight. Mostly because it was written between four people, and we wanted to keep a fairly low word limit. The ficlets I wrote for the Heart Pirates' Week took longer, but not that long.

favourite thing I wrote: It's a draw between three: Welding (6,767 words), my KidLaw fic; Decomposers (3,006 words), my LawZo fic; and water fills the shape of the holder (2,125 words), Law reflection fic, remixing one of @purplehairedwonder's fic.

I also had fun with the Kaidou, Queen, King and Black Maria piece (Remedy for Errors) I wrote for @crowbarsolo in support of Palestine, and Widi's Waddle (about Penguin's penguin), written for the OP Friend-Shaped Zine.

favourite thing(s) I read: Aw, a ton of stuff. I always like @anarchycox's LawZoLaw (also a great SmoLaw, but I'm not sure if it was this year), and all of the stories for the LawZo and KidLaw zines. I especially liked @alpha-hydra's Liminal Space (KidLaw), beautiful story by @/gammacavy from 2022 (The Caravel who Dared the Tempest) about Going Merry, but I just read it this year, and anything @crowbarsolo wrote, but especially the Cavendish/Nico Robin piece The Special Guests. ALSO! must mention home (the gilded lily remix) by @gladdecease who wrote a beautiful story springboarding from an older story of mine (house / yorishiro). Also loved Only You And I Remain (KidLaw) by @betsib and Give it to me, show me what you're feeling (show me that you need me) (LawZo) by @/CursedHoneyB. Maybe just check out my bookmarks (watch out for the kink!). Have been reading the multi-chap Warsong about my favourite rarepair, MarcoLaw, but it might've just gone beyond my word count limit (it's about 100K beyond my limit. Haha). It is beautifully written, though.

Give @hyperions-light's The Road(trip) to Hell Is Paved with Questionable Decision Making a read! It's a lot of fun, but all of their work is good (paying back, but also true!) They write under @flyiing-giraffe

I'm really enjoying the Going Merry: A Poor Substitute for Romance series by Springtime4Persephone. Focus is ZoSan, and I'm not a ZoSan shipper, but I enjoy it, and what I enjoy even more is the LawBin, and side servings of ZoLaw and LawSan. Very empathetic, fun and also a good serving of angst. Also, @/TerrifiedAristocat's Somebody Write Down the Recipe (LawSan, vampire and creatures of wonder in a modern day setting) is very good. Ongoing. Last two are E ratings.

Also, there are a dozen things I've read and loved and haven't mentioned here. I read a lot less this year though. All of the stuff for the Heart Pirates' Week was great, and I really enjoyed the beginning of ghosts speak in whispers and lies; can't know what's real 'til you're the one who's died (E rated, LawBin) by @nehswritesstuffs (Nehszriah) on AO3.

writing goals for 2025: None so far. Maybe return to my own work (rather than fanfic). BUT, who knows :D

new works: Again, nothing lined up at the moment. I do have a story in the gorgeous Pigment of Imagination (ophuezine). Pre-sales open now (closing soon). And four ficlets for the upcoming Fate and Fortune, one piece anthology digital zine. Stay-tuned for both! OH, also, I have a piece for the Baltigo Manifesto zine (about one piece revs). Due for publication in 2025.

No, we will be sharing gifts on our Discord and Tumblr, but you do not need to be on either platform to participate. What you do need: an active email address and an AO3 account.

The 2022 round had 66 sign-ups which was quite impressive. We are tentatively setting a limit of 75 sign-ups for the 2024 round.

🎁 Is there a word limit for written gifts or gifts based on written works? 🎁

Yes, the minimum is 200 words. There is no maximum. What this means is:

All written works (drabbles, fics, meta analysis, ship manifesto, etc.) must be at least 200 words. If the gift is less than 200 words (a poem, recipe, etc.), the remaining words may be filled by commentary (character analysis, explanation of imagery/themes/word choice, extra description, etc.).

All podfics must be based on a fic that is at least 200 words.

All translations must be at least 200 words when complete.

🎁 What kind of content can my gifts include? 🎁

We accept all content! This includes graphic violence, MCD, rape/noncon, underage, incest, abuse, and dark or triggering themes as long as they are tagged appropriately. The mods will be tag-checking all works. The only restriction is we will not accept NSFW art containing underage characters (which is illegal by US law). If you need help with tagging, you may reference this Comprehensive List of Triggers, Tags & Squicks or ask a mod.

No, gifts must be new and created exclusively for the exchange and specifically for your giftee.

hihi it's me again. the anon who agreed with you with who fell first and who fell harder haha, maybe i should make a name for myself

i've just been reading some textposts and i started thinking about the different ways lestappen shows affection with each other and whatnot. now i'm here in your inbox bc i really have no idea where to put this out lmao. because it really is just so them when it comes to displaying emotion so i guess buckle up and drive with me

as we all witnessed, especially more recently, max is definitively the initiator. the one who loves with everything he has. the one that feels things deeply and has nowhere to put it but in the world itseld. the one who constantly reaches out and finds charles and just corners him to talk to, to say congratulations, to just maxplain without care. bright eyes and a brighter smile, he just always finds charles to talk about anything. it's ridiculous, honestly. prime example, the entirety of the monaco 2024 gp weekend. max has been doing nothing but drop really obvious hints that the only one he'd love to hear on the top step is the italian national anthem? yes, this could be due to max liking ferrari as his only opponent on the field, but it's just so clear which of the two drivers he favours more heavily. yes, max likes carlos. yes, max and carlos have a history. but has max ever constantly walked up to him and squeeze the back of his neck twice to grab his attention and sidle off with a smile? no? don't think so. the fact he does it with consistency too — max constantly grabs charles' attention this way around monaco too, back in 2022 as well. (and i believe bahrain 2022 too? istg max) and here in monaco, the year 2024, he does it twice, once to congratulate him on pole with a run-and-gun tactic, literally being on charles' left only to clasp hands on charles' right bc max was just zooming across the media pen — the other is when the glorious lestappen hug happens (talking about this hug deserves another post in its own right). max just goes for it because it's easy, natural, and just right. as if it makes sense to gravitate towards your rival, as if it always has and always will be the same.

max is definitely more physical, literally talks with his hands i getchu, when it comes to interactions. the constant handholding (what is the sportsman clasp or dap if not a way to hold the hands of your rivals), the touches, the way max holds him on top of the podium, fingers curled around red waists, pressing light, pressing hard, enough to make an impression, enough to make it last (podium waist holding also deserves its own post good lord)... it just adds up

charles is definitely more discreet as mentioned before. he's more coy about it, too. teasing. likes to bully others with love. when charles gave max the secret santa gift and dedicated it to his biggest fan and when i tell you he ain't wrong — have you seen max's reaction? all he does is grin and laugh about, doesn't even deny it. just says, "oh that's a nice one" as if he likes playing the f1 games like come on. he was so smiley and giggly and it's so obvious. like they share the same sense of humour for sure, to be able to have a laugh about the absurdity of being gifted an f1 game while you are a driver while your rival's face is plastered all over it, but the fact that max just accepts the title of biggest fan? c'mon. charles knows how to play around with people and it's so evident in how max reacts afterwards,, i know charles is charming but. please standup max i beg.

charles clearly allows max to do whatever he wants with him, being a willing recipient to all the maxplaining. i don't quite remember which gp this is, maybe jeddah? where the commentators willing pointed out that they just immediately go into debrief soon as qualifying or the race is over? yeah. that. charles just lets him do that, he has to like going over their stuff together to the point where the commentators are just casually pointing it out like they're teasing them. like honestly they love yapping to each other and it's why we got the terms maxplaining and leclerifying in the first place. and to learn that it's been a thing they've been doing since they were kids?? las vegas 2023 you were too good to me ily

charles loves in the quiet moments, in the way he watches them with grace and adoration, loving everything they do because it will always be their traits to love. whenever someone is at the center of attention, it's the gentle smiles, a soft curl upwards — how his eyes crinkle around the edges, how green his eyes shine, how every second he stares is worth its time in gold; charles just loves to observe and have quality time together, only ever being physical when his friends and loved ones crop up. and i dare say max is finally beginning to be on the list where charles can be easygoing around him even outside the paddock

newbie ao3 author here! since I've been searching for an answer everywhere but can't find it, I hope you can answer this one for me? what does it mean to join a collection? what difference does it make from posting to a collection? thx

Hi anon! Congrats on joining ao3!

You can find some FAQs on ao3 collections here, but generally they're a place where people group stories according to a theme. That theme can just be fics they like -- someone creates a collection for "Jay's Favorite Fics" for example -- or a challenge, like Superbat Secret Santa 2022. Some folks use them to organize bookmarks, or certain tags ("BAMF Jason recs" etc)

The big differences for you as a writer are twofold: One, you can choose to allow people to add your fics to a collection if they want, and Two, adding your own work to a collection changes some of the permissions, such as the collection owner being able to hide/reveal the works in the collection. You can always remove your work from a collection if you're worried about the collection being made private, or your work being hidden, etc.

When I've participated in challenges, generally I post the fic to the collection and it disappears into the ether (it's hidden and not published) until the collection owner publishes the collection. Otherwise, sometimes folks add my fics to their own collections and I just keep an eye on the collection to make sure nothing strange is happening.

Transit: Written for RebelCaptain Secret Santa 2022, Jyn and Cassian travel together and find ways to pass the time. I tried to focus on quiet moments that reveal loud feelings.

Waiting for the Ferryman: Jyn in the bunker, slowly realizing that Saw has abandoned her. An unflinching, grief-flecked character study.

Without You: NSFW. Based off a prompt from @thestarbirdfromtheashes, and boy am I grateful for that prompt! Emotionally intense mission fic with smut, and one of the most tightly written pieces I think I've done.

Static in the Signal: Sequel to 'The Space Between Echoes,' and my personal favorite between the two. On Hoth, Jyn and Cassian try to suss out a mole within the Alliance. I'm most pleased with chapter eight.

In Retrograde: For a change of pace...Bodhi! A reflection on the possible lingering effects of Bor Gullet.

Ahhhh, I was meaning to reply to this earlier but I procrastinated. Oops!

Hmm, I wasn't sure about the exact definition of a fan-run event so I will just go for a loose term, i.e. not necessarily an event but also inclusion of some prompt list as well! So the answer is yes, I have joined a few fanrun event before and I appreciate how organised they were! Communication is clear and things happened on the date that they should plus good feedback/QnA system for any potential concern/queries! I also appreciate politeness in these sort of things (blame that on my old bone but we can all use some nice things in life)

As of some of the pieces I have made, I have decided to take the chance to compile them into a list as best as I could!

hi anon! i am glad that you asked, but my laptop ate up the doc so i can't give you any snippet :') (it is discouraging me from starting it again)

the fic is basically about carlos and pierre being in secret relationship. there's a lot of pining, unresolved sexual tension, heart eyes, shared trauma and yadda yadda before they get together. it has flashbacks from when they were younger (in toro rosso, monza 2020 - after which they fucked) and so on. they get together after 2022 monaco charity match and from then on it's endless striving to keep their relationship hidden. enter ilies (why? because i love the otter boy) that is always covering for them. charles is disgusted when he catches them with their tongues down each other's throats (and if i make him suffer their PDA everytime, then what). eventually i will include angst because ofc i will, but i haven't got that far yet.

i had like 2 scenes written. post monaco match and secret santa. where pierre gave carlos his sweater - that he can't wear in public might i add - so he wears it only for him

Ora, sicuramente la situazione Charlos è andata in crescendo totale dal 2021 a oggi, ma credo che nel 2021 loro fossero come due ragazzini con una cotta che dovevano imparare a stare insieme esposti sotto le telecamere, per cui erano impacciati e timidi, ma con molta attrazione. Dal 2022 le cose si evolvono: hanno più confidenza e il rapporto cresce. Da agosto 2022 (Spa, ma ci ricordiamo quel video sul divano?), dopo una estate con Charles completamente insofferente con Charlotte e Carlos in esilio a Maiorca con Isa (e sono sempre stati distanti, ve lo posso dire io), la dinamica ESPLODE fino ad Abu Dhabi. Ragà, questi stavano insieme per terra a vedersi una partita soli, con le loro "fidanzate" (Isa è sempre stata fake, Charlotte era ormai ex, e si vedeva) fuori in giro. Da inizio 2023 a oggi praticamente non si è capito più niente, e voglio farvi notare che negli ultimi break invernali ed estivi SONO STATI ENTRAMBI NEGLI STESSI POSTI: in Val Gardena a gennaio, a luglio/agosto in Corsica e Sardegna (e non ufficialmente la Francia del Sud, in un periodo dove entrambi erano spariti, niente paparazzate organizzate). E ditemi voi quante cazzo di coincidenze possono esistere con questi due OGNI SANTA VOLTA. Anche io penso che la roba tra loro sia potuta nascere a livello puramente fisico e sessuale (con un Carlos pienamente conscio della propria omosessualità e Charles invece alla prima esperienza con la sua bisessualità), limitata ai weekend insieme in hotel e alle giornate a Maranello, diciamo in un periodo imprecisato del 2022, ma ora come ora è INDECENTE come si comportano perché è chiaro che hanno parlato e sanno cosa sono l'uno per l'altro - non so cosa siano, ma sono QUALCOSA DI IMPORTANTE PER L' ALTRO. Vi spingo a ricordare alcuni momenti di quest'anno: il braccialetto allacciato da Carlos, il paddock insieme in Bahrein tipo vestiti abbinati, Carlos che si spoglia nel mezzo del paddock perché Charles lo chiede, la Francia del Sud, etc etc. Sono robe assolutamente inspiegabili in un contesto di due semplici colleghi di lavoro e amici scherzosi, perché il loro linguaggio del corpo è agghiacciante (e quello non mente MAI). Come ha detto altr* anon, Charles è già rotto di palle della sua ragazzetta nuova, Carlos invece cerca di vendere al pubblico la sua nuova relazione (che gli sta praticamente rovinando l'immagine e la relazione coi genitori, penso che sappiamo chi sia lei in realtà). E nel frattempo questi si fanno i cazzi loro quando e dove vogliono: hanno soldi, opportunità, segretezza quando vogliono ottenerla. Ripeto, la verità non la saprò mai, ma il quadro della situazione in generale ce l'ho presente da anni e ho sempre e solo più conferme. Anche perché basta vedere la faccia di Charles quando è senza Carlos e viceversa - si deve portare il codazzo di persone per non stare solo con la sua girlfriend e non andare in depressione senza Carlos, che invece ha ben sette anni di esperienza pregressa nel fingere con una donna di fianco e sta continuando ancora adesso con questa nuova adepta. Against my best wishes I am single this year, but my friends and I are gonna do our yearly 'If you're not taken then you're part of the Single Friends Secret Santa' tradition, basically every year our school does a fundraiser for charity around Valentine's where you can buy plastic roses and various kinds of sweets and add a personalised message on it for it to be delivered around the school, so basically we draw names, buy a 'Passion Package' (a bundle of every item at a discounted price, yes it is intended to sound that euphemistic) for whoever we draw and sign it "Your Secret Admirer (No Homo)" just embarrass each other in front of our classmates

The meaning of life oh boy sldhskhdslhsslv, I'm religious so yeah I do believe I have a Higher Purpose etc etc but in my day to day life I just try to be a kind person I guess, like we're all here so we may as well try not to make things miserable for each other, that's enough philosophy for me for a Wednesday afternoon 😅

I think you typo'd the first username but after searching it on google I did manage to find the post in question where you said these accounts were sending asks to one another.

Unfortunately (much like @kyra45) I cannot verify/vet the legitimacy of tumblr accounts with gofundme campaigns, nor can I outright call them scams as I do not have the means nor methods to do so.

If you feel these are scam accounts, I'd suggest reporting their posts to tumblr for phishing and explaining how/why it's a scam via a reply to the email they send you after you make an abuse report. That way you've got more than 300 characters to type up a reason in the initial report.

If you have 100% concrete evidence as well, anon:

I'd also report the gofundme pages to the actual gofundme report page if they are (without a doubt) using stories or images from other campaigns or sources like internet articles from abc/msnbc/cnn from x months/years ago with an explanation of how/why and what is different.

Here is is a good example on how I've provided evidence against a fake gofundme that I saw a few weeks ago that was asking for Christmas donations- that later turned into a medical bill donation page:

The header image on this campaign was stolen from this news article posted in 2022 about children in fiji suffering from <illness>. <link to article>. The child in question whose image is being used is <name> but in this campaign they call him Steven. This campaign url <insert url here> was previously being used 3 days ago for christmas donations and now it is being used for medical reasons. I made a report about that too and the number is (number). At that time the campaign used AI images throughout the description evident by the missing fingers on the children and Santa, and the nonsensical words on the books on the book shelf. Being that the same person is now switching up stories, using stolen images from a news article and AI, I am pretty sure that this is a scam.

They have unlimited space in the report sheet where you can provide any and all evidence if you feel in good faith that the campaign someone is sharing is fraudulent in some way and/or a scam. :)

I do tend to bias rappers! I only bias rappers, actually. I bias Changbin in Stray Kids. I don't know your bias in Stray Kids, but you give off Minho stan vibes. He reminds me a bit of Wooyoung, all of the chaos but also the incredible dancing skills and under appreciated vocals.

Hehe so you like inception and guerrilla Wooyoung! Noted. 😉 I love the name of those tags, they're so funny. I think if I had to pick my favorite Hongjoong era, it would have to be when he had red hair after orange hair in deja vu. It just looked so good! And I think all Hongjoong stans can agree that cruella hair was also great, me being one of them.
