In light of starting with my ASOIAF reread project again (I will continue where I left off) I decided to share my art breeder version of Sansa. This is the closest thing in my mind of how I imagine Sansa looks like from AGOT to AFFC (from left to right).
#asoiaf reread project#Sansa Stark#artbreeder#when I was creating this I had young Brooke shields in my mind#and Rachel Hurd-Wood in the Perfume movie#those two are my ideal Sansa Stark fancasts#combining them both this came to be#I like to call her the ultimate Sansa Stark

⚜ Sansa was a lady at three, always so courteous and eager to please. She loved nothing so well as tales of knightly valor. Men would say she had my look, but she will grow into a woman far more beautiful than I ever was

This whole discussion about Arya's beauty is pissing me off. Arya is canonically pretty and that's simply a fact.
"No you don't understand!! 8-10 years old Arya is often mistaken for a boy so that means she is an ugly kid and she could never be as pretty as Lyanna!!"
Twelve years old Millie Bobby Brown:
Thirteen years old Millie:
Sixteen years old Millie:
Ned called Arya pretty in the very first book and said she looked like her beautiful aunt. Later, Bran sees a vision of young!Lyanna and thinks she is Arya, so that means they are in fact very similar. Jon, Gendry, the kindly man and Lady Smallwood also think Arya is a pretty kid.
"But why do y'all care so much about Arya's appearance? She is just a kid, stop sexualizing her!"
Saying a fictional kid is pretty doesn't mean you're sexualizing them. Rickon, Myrcella, Joffrey and Sansa are kids and they are canonically beautiful, just like Arya. I've never seen a single ASOIAF stan saying that fancasting Rachel Hurd-Wood (16 in the movie 'Perfume') as Sansa is problematic. The actress doesn't look like a 10-12 year old (in fact, she looks older than she is) but no one cares.
So why the fuck y'all get so mad when people fancast girls like Mackenzie Foy (16 in the The Nutcracker but in my opinion she looks younger) as young!Arya or 17 year old Olivia Hussey as older!Arya?? It seems to me that you guys are just being bitter and annoying for no valid reason.

age appropriate sansa stark fancasting resource
So, as you all know, Sansa is 11 at the start of A Song of Ice and Fire and around the time of AFFC/ADWD she’s around 14. That makes her pretty challenging to fancast and most of the actresses/models that are popularly fancast as her are a good deal older than her actual age in the books. So here, I’m going to share some of my favorite and most popular fancasts for book!Sansa, and tell you where you can find footage for them. This is by no means an exhaustive list and feel free to add your own suggestions! Some of these actors don’t have red hair so if anyone wants a tutorial on how to change someone’s hair color then let me know and I’ll make one.
Note on ages: As a general rule of thumb, movies and tv shows usually film about one year before they’re actually released so that is where I’m getting the ages.
Layla Burns
Layla is a child actress and I can’t find her birthdate online but according to a website called Mandy Acting that seems to represent her she is 14 years old. She appears in the series Outlander (far right) and footage from that show have sometimes been used as a fancast for Sansa. While her outfits in that show don’t really work for book Sansa it can work if you need a gif. She appears in the episodes 3x08 “First Wife” and 4x07 “Down the Rabbit Hole.” However the REAL reason I’m suggesting her is because of a photoshoot she did with Darja Bilyk in 2017 that features several images of her wearing a crown (middle)! Check it out here. (If you’re having trouble saving the pictures on that site, try switching to mobile.)
Rachel Hurd-Wood
Footage from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) is sometimes used as a Sansa fancast (middle). Rachel would have been around 15 when that movie was filmed. If you want to go even younger, I suggest going back to Peter Pan (2003) where she would be 12.
Sadie Sink
Sadie Sink is probably the most popular fancast for book age Sansa right now, probably because she’s a teenage actress with red hair who started getting popular around when people first became disillusioned with the show. She is currently 18, has been a child actor since she was 10 and started playing Max in Stranger Things when she was 14. The main downside with Sadie as a fancast is that she hasn’t been in anything that can even remotely resemble period footage, however I’ve noticed quite a few people use this video she did with Miu Miu in their gifsets.
Dakota Blue Richards
Footage used is from the 2008 film The Secret of Moonacre. Dakota would have been around 13.
Mackenzie Foy
Footage from The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018) is sometimes used as Alayne. That movie had an unusually long post-production so Mackenzie actually would have been closer to 16 than 17 when it was filmed. Also it is worth mentioning that she is 13 and has red hair in the movie Interstellar (2014, middle).
Isolda Dychauk
At first I wasn’t going to bother including Isolda at all because I figured she had to be in her 20s but she’s actually 17 in the first season of Borgia: Faith and Fear. I consider that to be within the acceptable age range for book!Sansa, plus I have other 17 year olds on this list so I figured I’d include her. Isolda is also popularly fancast as Lysa a lot too. Definitely on the older side but I do like her as Sansa. She is also in the 2011 German film Faust (far right). I haven’t checked it in depth but the movie is set in the 1800s and seems to have some usable footage. You can find clips from the movie by searching for “faust 2011″ on YouTube but the first few videos look like they were recorded with someone’s phone so scroll down a bit.
Other
On the right is Laoise Murray who plays Elizabeth in the fourth season of The Tudors. I’ve seen a couple people use her and she would have been 13. Neither of the other two actors have been used as Sansa fancasts by anyone besides me but I thought it was worth mentioning anyways. Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby (1978, left) is 12 and a lot of the scenes could pass as period footage. I also had the idea of using 10-year-old Liesel Matthews in A Little Princess (1995, middle) as Sansa if anyone wants to try it.
That’s all! Thanks for reading and I hope this list helps you :)

Sansa Stark Fancast Resource
“Sansa is traditionally beautiful, taking after her mother's family (House Tully) with her high cheekbones, vivid blue eyes, and thick auburn hair. She is eleven years old at the start of A Song of Ice and Fire. As she has grown up, her figure has been described as tall, graceful, and womanly.” (x)
LAYLA BURNS - PHOTOSHOOT / JOANNIE (OUTLANDER)
Layla Burns has become a popular fancast for Sansa, primarily because of this photoshoot from 2017. I can’t find an exact birthdate for her, but as near as I can tell she was 12ish at the time. Layla also played Joannie on Outlander around the same time, and while the costume design is not very in line with Westerosi fashion, there’s a scene where Joannie has her hair braided by Brianna (Sophie Skelton) that works great for Sansa and Catelyn content.
MADELEINE POWER - PRINCESS ELIZABETH (SIX WIVES) / YOUNG THYRA (THE LAST KINGDOM)
Another one for whom it’s hard to find a birthdate. However, she played a nine-year-old character two years before The Last Kingdom and three years before Six Wives, so I feel comfortable placing her at roughly the right age for AGoT Sansa. Content is pretty limited for her, since she only has a handful of scenes in The Last Kingdom, and any footage from Six Wives is really difficult to find.
DAKOTA BLUE RICHARDS - LYRA BELACQUA (THE GOLDEN COMPASS) / MARIA MERRYWEATHER (THE SECRET OF MOONACRE)
Dakota was 12 and 13 when filming these movies, respectively. She plays the lead in both, so there’s plenty of material of her, and she has quite a wide range of emotions, particularly for an actor so young. The costume design is more fitting in The Secret of Moonacre, but The Golden Compass does have a great fur coat that’s good for Winterfell content.
RACHEL HURD-WOOD - LAURA (PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER)
Rachel Hurd-Wood is on the older side for Sansa, 15ish when filming Perfume. However, I find her particularly fitting for Sansa’s court life, and she does have the most brilliant red hair.
OTHERS
1. LAOISE MURRAY - ELIZABETH TUDOR (THE TUDORS): Laoise was 13 when filming The Tudors, which has spot-on costume design for Westeros, particularly King’s Landing.
2. ELLIE DARCEY-ALDEN - LILY EVANS (HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS): Obviously Harry Potter doesn’t have the costume design for Westeros, but I do still like Ellie (10ish when filming DH) as a young Sansa. There are also some clips of her in Doctor Who the following year that are useful. (Oh! She also wears medieval clothing in Robin Hood, filmed two years before DH!)
3. HELENA BARLOW - YOUNG ESTELLA (GREAT EXPECTATIONS): She’s a bit flouncy for Sansa, but I like her for Sansa’s early time in King’s Landing, when she’s trying to embrace southern culture and style. Helena was 13 during filming.
4. SADIE SINK - MIU MIU COMMERCIAL: Unfortunately, Sadie Sink hasn’t done any period work that I’m aware of, because she makes a great Sansa. However, some of the closeups from her 2017 Miu Miu commercial, during which she was 15, are usable.
Feel free to add any of your own! The full set of my fancast resources can be found here.

Some Asoiaf Stark sisters fancasts
Sansa Stark
Weronika Matwiejuk (my number 1 choice. Delicate bone structure and cheekbones.)
Rachel Hurd-Wood (perfect period clothing. She’s 15 in the pic, but Peter Pan has her at Sansa’s age.)
Angelina Michelle (good bone structure and eye color)
Adult Sansa Fancasts:
Lotte Verbeek (the perfect adult Sansa, poised, high cheekbones, blue eyes, red hair, and period clothing.)
Rachel Skarsten (another good choice, hair and cheekbones, slightly different vibe and the period clothing is good)
Arya Stark
Amanda Laine (my favorite for Arya. The long face is great and she has a wild sort of beauty. Often does photoshoots with messy hair)
Florence Hunt (good for accurate aged Arya. Doesn’t really have a long face but has good energy for Arya.)
Isabelle Fuhrman (hair and eyes are perfect and exactly as described. She grew into her beauty as she got older. Still not a super long face.)
Millie Brady (really popular. Arya energy is off the charts and she mostly looks the part. Once again, her face isn’t super long)
Eva Green (my personal favorite. The warrior woman aesthetic is great. Eyes are a perfect grey and her face is on the long side.)

I hadnt really noticed that about the fancasts. for example I've seen Charlotte hope be used in gifsets that I know are done by Sansa antis, but Charlotte is far from ugly or plain. But you probs have a point. I have noticed before with some arya stans who've tried arguing sansa really isn't that pretty and it's dumb and creepy
I dont think Charlotte is ugly. From certain angles she can look quite beautiful, and I didnt want to mention her name so blatantly at first because it would be quite unkind, but when I say "plain", I mean in comparison to more conventionally attractive actresses. I mean plain as in "normal" looking in my personal and subjective opinion. I consider myself average as well, because I am am not ugly, and can be considered pretty by some, but I am not stunning.
I simply have noticed that Sansa stans tend to either leave Sophie Turner, or fancast actresses like Rachel Hurd-Wood, Isolda Dychauk, Elle Fanning, Brooke Shields or even Mackenzie Foy (As Alayne). Many of those mentioned above are celebrated beauties. Isolda, at least, has an "innocent" look. And I find it so... how can I put it?
"Aha! Of course!" <<< I find the reason as to why so few Arya stans use those fancasts obvious, at least now.
Maybe some genuine Sansa stans do fancast Charlotte, and honestly good for them, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I cant claim to have visited every single Stark sisters' blog, and as I said, she is not ugly (Either way, the best thing about Sansa is her personality). At the beggining I thought I was being blinded by my own subjective standards of beauty, but at the same time, I know those standards came from somewhere: society, the media, etc., and it was starting to become way too weird and suspicious that 8 out of 10 times I found one of those Arya stan blogs that blatantly hate on Sansa without without any sort of subtlety, the fancast for Sansa was Charlotte, and the one for Arya was Millie. Well, maybe they follow each other and the fancasts "stuck" (That is actually a posibility I hadn't thought about before, it could very well be).
But I also know that at least some Arya stans are obsessed with Arya surpassing Sansa in beauty, so much so that what I hope is a minority theorizes about Sansa becoming disfigured. And that would also explain the fancasts even without the constant reblogging between mutuals in their circles (Maybe the answer is somewhere in the middle), it just fits their overall mentality.
In my opinion, Charlotte seems like a safe fancast for them, because she is pretty as Sansa is supposed to be in the book (I don't think Charlotte has incredibly high cheekbones but I guess that is subjective as well), but without ruining their headcanon about Arya becoming prettier, or at least, Charlotte makes Sansa beautiful in a non threatening way, because it allows room for their fave to be even more so, which is fine really, as some people are very visual. I am more mad about them saying Sansa is evil, wanting her to be disfigured, marry a pedophile, or have an irrelevant ending.
The post was made more tongue in cheek than anything, but was indeed based on what I have observed visiting those blogs.

For Sansa I got Rachel Hurd wood with red hair and used a face app to make her a pre teen. I fancast young isdola as Lysa and Eleonor Tomlinson as catelyn. I always fancast young Cersei as Celina Sinden from reign but just realised Katie McGrath would be so much better with blonde hair (she’s naturally blonde anyway and naturally had green eyes) and Morgana in the earlier seasons I could see Cersei in plus she pulls off Cersei charcater- she’s be brilliant!
My unpopular fancast for Catelyn is Carey Mulligan in Far From the Maddening Crowd haha. In my head Cersei as she first appears in the books looks sort of like a blonde Keira Knightley. I think Keira Knightley should get to play more villainous roles.
